Decided to do headcanons for this one, hope that's okay my dear!!

Steven Universe - Steven with a Reader Who Loves Musicals

I feel like Steven would be SOOO into musicals

But he wouldn't realize it until he met you

He loves Disney movies and other movies with unique/good soundtracks, and when he says this to you (probably pretty early on in your knowing each other), you suggest he watch a musical with you

Ofc he says yes, but at first he's a little wary

He's never watched a real musical before; just movies with a little music

He's completely enamored by the end of the first song

You ask him what he thinks when the movie is over, and you grin to yourself when you see the stars in his eyes

He immediately asks if there are more movies "like that one"

Cue you showing him all your favorite musicals!!

You'll have to restrain yourself though; both of you are way too excited and you don't even notice that it's suddenly 3AM

You agree to just watch one every day from then on; which you were doing anyway, but Steven wanted to participate

This becomes a bit of a ritual for you guys; but it only lasts for about a week :(

Steven is a busy guy, and you've got your own things going on too

But you vow to meet up at least once a week for a musical movie night :)

The first three or so hours of these nights are spent watching the film, and then you'll spend more hours gushing about it

And ofc you memorize all the soundtracks and scream the lyrics on road trips

You guys make references to each other all the time, both in lyrical and non-lyrical forms

I don't know much about musicals,, but I just KNOW that Steven ADORES the SpongeBob musical

You guys buy each other merch of your favorite musicals, too

You probably have one or two matching items, like keychains or smth

Sometimes when you hang out you just blast musical soundtracks, belting out the lyrics and dancing until your faces are red and you're panting on the floor

Musicals are such an important part of your relationship

For Steven, they're this magical little corner of the world that you revealed to him

For you, they're everything; and it warms your heart to know that Steven loves them just as much as you :)

And if a performance is happening nearby, you can bet you're getting tickets ASAP

Maybe even for multiple nights

You'll go out to ice cream after and gush, just like you do after your more casual musical nights :)

✦From what i can interpret from the show, Lapis most likely still has trauma after expriencing certain events.

✦Lapis is a college student who has recently received therapy after experiencing the past trauma of a school shooting a few years ago and being in a toxic relationship. She met Steven, a boy in middle school, during her time receiving therapy. Steven and Lapis are much like siblings, similar to the show; Lapis is awfully protective of him, but she's a little guilty that she doesn't really have time to spend with him.

✦After graduating high school, she met a girl named Jasper, and they got into a relationship, but it quickly got toxic because of their personalities clashing. Lapis broke up with Jasper after a year and proceeded to take therapy. (They were both toxic, just letting you know)

✦Now that she's a junior college student majoring in art history, she's roommates with Peridot and also friends with two other girls who both have the same hair color as her(nice Lapis and mean Lapis)

✦Speaking of appearances, I can see her having the same blue hair but with an undercut haircut. Her skin is tan (she definitely has freckles too), and she's a fan of dressing in crop tops a lot, along with a long dress or jeans.

✦She's very reserved and stoic; she might come off as cold when you meet her, but when you get to know each other, she's friendly and loves to talk about art. She has some issues trusting people because of past trauma; she may be rude sometimes, but she's quick to apologize if you're someone close, like Steven.

✦Because you and Lapis shared a seat together and both majored in art history, your friendship began when you two occasionally worked on projects. Lapis has begun to grow fond of you after some time spent studying together. When Peridot nags her to ask you out, she always shoots her a glare and tells Peridot to mind her own business.

✦Whenever you weren't looking, Lapis would glance at you just to admire your focused face when you two were working on a project. She smiled and thought you looked adorable. She looked away and acted dumb when you caught her that one time.

✦Now that Peridot has been bugging her about you like a thousand times, she finally asked you out on a date. She took you to a beach city that's just a few miles from your college. Beach City was also where Steven lives with his family, and you guys met him on your date. Steven was overjoyed and might've spilled some embarrassing facts about Lapis.

✦Of course, she quickly tells you to buy some donuts before Steven continues anymore. She got a box of donuts that filled with three glazed blueberry donuts and three of your favorites. She offers to pay, but you beat her to it.

✦You two spent your date together, eating donuts, walking on the beach, and playing in the arcade until it was evening. You two sat on the sand, looking at the setting sun. She told you that she had fun, and you replied back with the same thought. Eventually you two started a deep conversation that led her to open up about her past. You reassured and comforted her, and she appreciated that and also appreciated you.

"You know....you really are amazing." Lapis snorted and smiled. She looks at you lovingly and holds your hand. "Thanks for agreeing to go on a date with me, I'm glad you had a great time." She tugs a hair strand behind your ear.

✦Your date ended, and you two got to your dorms. Lapis walked you to your dorm first. Before she left for hers, you gave her a kiss on the cheek. Peridot finds Lapis coming back to their dorm with a dorky smile. She smirks knowingly.

(Aww, thank you! I'll be doing these two together with a lil bit of Garnet sprinkled in! :3)

At first, you and Garnet were just close friends. She saw you as such cause, well, why would she have romantic feelings for you? She loves herself!

However, when Ruby and Sapphire decide to spend sometime apart to become their own gems during the beginning of Era 3, they both seemingly run into a conundrum. Whenever they encounter you, their faces flush bright colours and they get the same feeling they do when they're together...they both love you...

At first, they completely avoided you because they were terrified. They loved one another, having these feelings for you would end up breaking them apart completely.

After a few weeks of these feelings, one of them, probably Sapphire, will confess that they've been feeling these romantic feelings towards you. Luckily, when the other confesses the same feelings, they both feel alot more comfortable.

Over the next few days, they discuss what they should do about these feelings they have for you. Eventually, they decide that Garnet will tell you she loves you.

When you reciprocate these romantic feelings, Garnet is so happy that she hugs you and immediately split into Ruby and Sapphire, both of them clinging to you and softly crying, happy that you had accepted their love.

In your new found relationship, you'll mainly be with Garnet. They're trying to spend a bit more time apart but they're still Garnet a majority of the time cause that's when they feel most comfortable.

She'll lift you up in the biggest hugs possible. No matter your physique, she can very easily lift you and snuggle you close. Hugs are a must when with Garnet.

Her second form of love is both compliments and support. She'll give you the best advice she can and help support you and your interests. Mental health is a game she crushes and she'll be sure to help you with anything like that.

When split into Ruby and Sapphire, Ruby is alot more physically affectionate whilst Sapphire is more verbally affectionate.

Ruby will tackle hug you whenever she sees you. Always be on guard cause she can appear anywhere and at anytime to just glomp you in a big ol hug.

She's also highly protective. If anyone is talking BS about you, she'll become a walking firework and you'll need to hug her with all your might to calm her down. Your hugs are along with Sapphire's as the only things that cool her off.

Sapphire is alot more mellow. Instead of running about in a forest, she'd much prefer sitting with you in a nice cafe, drinking some delicious tea and chatting about everything you want.

Everytime she meets you, she usually has a gift for you. This can range from something like a flower crown to a plush twice the size of her. Gift giving is her shiz.

Together, these two will tag team you. Trapped in cuddles, double cheek smooches and them each sitting on your lap. You're easily the biggest when they aren't fused so they use the opportunity to be held and snuggled.

If you want to, they'll even offer you to fuse with them. Nothing symbolises their love more then fusion. If you don't won't to, they completely understand but they'll always be happy to fuse if you ever want to.

I actually have a pretty complex headcanon about this!

I think if Jasper met up with the other Earth Quartzes it would be tense. It was mostly Jasper's lines in Fragments that put me on this line of thinking: "The only problem you have are your friends." "Can't you see they're holding you back?" "They're afraid of your power." "Those so called friends of yours don't understand, they want you to feel bad for being yourself."

This instantly gave me the impression Jasper was projecting. Big time. Maybe she was too intense even for the other Quartzes. And from some of the things she says in Earthlings it makes me think she's probably said some cruel things to them, especially the other Beta Kindergarten Gems.

"Your weakness embarrasses Homeworld You suffer because it's what you deserve! We all only get what we deserve."

"Every Gem is made for a purpose: to serve the order of the Diamonds. Those who cannot fit inside this order must be purged!"

Jasper I feel has always been very isolated. No other Earth Quartz was on her level. After the Earth was abandoned by the Diamonds Jasper was put into the service of Yellow Diamond's court while everyone else was shoved off to do busy work on the Zoo station by Blue Diamond. I doubt she's seen the rest of them since.

I think deep down Jasper's true core motivation is justifying her own existence. She came from the slapdash Kindergarten that existed just to quickly make more soldiers to fight the Crystal Gem rebellion. Homeworld lost that war anyway. The planet she was made on is now considered a point of shame. And as far as anyone knows her Diamond was slain. No matter how perfect she came out or how powerful she is her origins are always going to haunt her. So she has to prove she was worth making in the first place.

Steven has been rather off as of late, he rarely came out from his house, not attending any of little homeschool meetings, and became a little distant from you. It made you really sad, so today you decided that you’ll buy him his favorite donut and visit him on his house.

“hey, Lars! how’s the business doing?” the pink haired boy immediately look towards you and smiled once he recognized who it was. “Oh hey __! man its been so long since i’ve seen you. And my business is doing great than ever, the gems really liked my baked goods.” Lars smiled at you feeling happy that the two of you finally saw eachother again after a few weeks. He instinctively look around to see that there’s no Steven following you from behind, it was unusual for Lars to not see his half gem half human friend not following his partner like a lost puppy.

“hey __? where’s Steven? its unusual for him to not holding your hand or following you until the end of the day.” Lars questioned you with his head slowly tilting to the side, you only let out a sigh. “i don’t know Lars.. he hasn’t been out from his house for like three days? four? though i want to visit him today.” you dropped your head only to be patted by Lars.

“its okay __! i’m sure he’s okay, that’s good that you visit him today. Here’s your order, have a nice day!” you took your orders from him and wave at him while walking towards Steven’s house.

you walked towards Steven’s house feeling that something bad must’ve happened to why he hasn’t come out from his house for the past couple of days, your anxieties grew on each steps you took. Once you’re finally at his house you gently knock on the door and opened up the door only yo be met by two Stevens.

“__? wait WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE” Steven looked at you hopefully before finally realizing that you’re inside his house and was looking at Pink Steven. You look at both of the Stevens with wide eyes, yes today you wanted to visit your boyfriend… boyfriends..? but you didn’t expect that there would be two of him now.

Steven could only ran to you and hugged you close, feeling relieved that you’re here now. He’s tired dealing his pink version already, you only laughed softly as you rub circles around his back. You noticed that Pink Steven was walking towards you two but the thing you didn’t expect was him hugging you too from behind. Now you have two Stevens hugging you.

What you didn’t know was Steven sending a death stare to his other half while Pink Steven could only give Steven his usual stoic face. After hugging them both for awhile you finally took a notice of the bags under Steven’s eyes, indicating that he probably doesn’t sleep while dealing of his other half.

“Steven, please don’t tell me you didn’t sleep for the past couple of days..?” you take your hand to put it on his cheek while rubbing it gently, making him to sigh and put his hand on yours. “im sorry, __. But he’s very hard to take care with without him breaking every single thing he touch.” Steven spoke in a soft manner but still gritted his teeth on the last words, you pout at him and turn around to Pink Steven only to see him grab your other hand and put it against his, wanting to feel your warm hand.

your pout turned into a soft smile before sighing and took both of the Steven’s to his(their?) room with you sitting in between of the two Stevens. The three of you are ended up watching a movie. The one scene has a lover kissing their partner over and over again on their face, that leads Pink Steven wanting to try to do that to you since you’re technically his partner right?

you were caught by suprise when you were attacked by kisses from Pink Steven, you could see a glimpse of a darker shade of pink on his cheeks as he send kisses towards all over your face. Steven was flabbergasted at the sight of HIS partner with a version of himself. He take this as a challenge and now begin kissing your face also. You were laughing so much because of how much it tickles with the two of them now kissing your face over and over again.

let’s say that the night ends up the three of you abandoning the movies and went off into a deep sleep with smiles on your faces while cuddling close to eachothers.

I love finding characters I can relate (/project onto) within media. There’s something so comforting about seeing yourself on screen. I end up headcanoning most of them to be in-line with my identities (lesbian, wasian, autistic) because they are literally me in my head!!

Anyway here’s a long ass list of my favorite characters and why I head canon them as autistic for fun!! If you have any others you’d like to add I’d love to hear them. (And please note this is just my interpretation, and highly based on my experience with autism. I’m not saying they’re definitely autistic or that all the traits I listed are the dsm-5 criteria or something.)

Princess Bubblgeum from adventure time:

This girl is peak evil scientist autistic. Her intense need for control, the way she carefully observes the citizens she created, an outsider to them, not quite like them… god it’s so perfect. I read her as being somewhat low empathy as well, it’s hard for her to change her perspective to that of others. Plus the fact her brother neddy is a pretty obvious metaphor for higher supports needs autism. I think they of represent how autism runs in the family and appears in all sorts of different ways in different people. They’re sort of two different representations of the spectrum.

Marcy wu from amphibia

I mean this one is just obvious. The biggest nerd of all time. So obsessed with her RPG special interest that she literally sucks her and her friends into a fantasy world. She’s clumsy (just like me fr), very smart but super socially awkward, a little oblivious and naive. She’s terrified of change, especially if it means abandoning the few social bonds she’s been able to make. I honestly find it hard to believe this wasn’t intentional.

Entrapta from she-ra

Another pretty overt example. I do have some issues with how she was portrayed in the show- (keeping her on a leash was weird.) but overall I really love her. She understands her tech, not people, and it can cause her to come into conflict with other characters. Their treatment of her makes me sad at times, but it’s realistic. I also love some of her other quirks, her love of tiny food, her exitable demeanor, ect.

Pearl from Steven Universe

Peridot is the more obvious example of an autistic character in SU, and while I agree she’s coded that way, I personally resonate more with Pearl. She is not very socially aware, and bothered by disruptions to her routine/ broader life changes. She doesn’t like to break rules (despite being a literal rebel lol.) I find it interesting how she seems to have the poorest understanding of life on earth out of the gems, despite having lived here for thousands of years. She is graceful, but has an almost sort of awkward gangly-ness to her that I relate to. Her neuroticism is also very similar to how my anxiety disorder presents.

Pearl has a tendency to infodump, without realizing those around her are uninterested. Even her relationship with Rose struck a chord with me. The hopeless devotion to her, the way she followed along at her side. It’s how many of my friendships have been. Obvious it’s not exactly the same considering Pearl having originally been her servant, but while not being an explicitly autistic trait, that sort of clingy, starstruck relationship is something autistic people are prone to developing. She does little hand stims at times too that I love to see.

Poison Ivy (specifically the version in the Harley Quinn animated show)

I’m surprised I haven’t seen more people mention poison Ivy. Fiercely intelligent and deeply introverted, she isolates herself from all people, and only connects with and understands her plants. (Which her deep affinity for can definitely be read as a special interest.) She very overtly has trouble forming relationships with others.

She’s blunt, socially awkward and a loner, has something of a flat effect and a monotone voice. Those around her initially read her as cold and impersonable.Her struggle with social anxiety as well as intense fear of failure/ low self esteem is also very relatable to me. She also often struggles to express/understand her feelings and emotions. Her radical political ideas and the fact that she’s literally an ecoterrorist paints her as having a very strong sense of justice and a somewhat black and white worldview. (Me)

Finally, her relationship with Harley just SCREAMS neurodivergent solidarity. Harley Quinn is (I think canonically) adhd, and they’re both outsiders in the world that found each other and just… get each other. She’s Ivy’s closest and only friend and amazing girlfriend and god it’s all so perfect.

They remind me a lot of the relationship I have with my best friend with adhd except theirs is gayer.

- You have a habit of falling asleep on Steven's lap while he's playing video games. He finds it endearing and always tries to stay quiet so he doesn't wake you up

- One of your favorite activities to do with Steven is baking. You love to mix the ingredients and decorate the cupcakes, while Steven loves to taste-test them

- You often wear oversized sweaters and hoodies, and Steven thinks you look absolutely adorable in them. He jokes that he wants to steal them from you to wear himself

- Steven likes to surprise you with small gifts and treats, like a bouquet of your favorite flowers or a box of chocolates. He loves to see your face light up with joy

- You might not be a fan of scary movies, but Steven loves them. During these times, he holds you close and makes sure to comfort you during the scary parts

- Your favorite thing to do with Steven is cuddle. You both love to snuggle up on the couch and watch your favorite TV shows or movies. It's your favorite way to spend lazy afternoons together

I can't believe I'm just now getting to this- Sorry, anon, I know you sent this is like over a year ago-

You were childhood friends, so great for you- You have a trauma bond with him and Connie

He tells you stuff he would never tell Connie, because he doesn't think Connie would understand

He feels like he can talk to you without judgement

When he develops romantic feelings, he doesn't think they're different than his friendship feeling

But god, he loves when you smile and laugh

It warms something so sweet in him

When he does realize he likes you more than a friend and accepts the feelings, he's to scared to tell you

His fear of rejection overcomes his love for you

When his trauma really starts to get to him, he finds it hard to be around you

He shuts you out, because he doesn't want you to see him like that

"I feel like you're shutting me out," You exaggerate your hands, before point at him and then yourself, "And I don't even know why"

"It's nothing personal, Y/n"

It breaks your heart and you don't know how to get through to him

You'll try and talk to Connie [Bad idea] and she tells you you just need to give him time. [Yeah, you didn't want to do that, so you ignored her advice, even though technically that would have been the best thing to do]

You think about going to Pearl, but you know she'll probably say the same thing as Connie- So, you go to Garnet, because she can see the future

Expect, Garnet tells you that the best thing to do is let him come to you and you groan, which causes Garnet to laugh

"Not the answer you wanted?"

"Of course not. Thank you though, Garnet."

Garnet knows you're not going to take her advice, but maybe Steven needs someone to care enough about him to pull him back into reality

You try talking to Steven's dad, but that doesn't go well either. Steven's father is so out of touch with his son. You should of known better- Even though Mr. Universe is a good dad in his love, he's never there. You supposed it was complicated.

So, you go to the last choice- The one you were trying to avoid

She's more than happy to help you. She doesn't give you words of comfort or anything, she's all about movement and action

Thankfully you make up, but he still doesn't let you into what's going on

"You know, Steven, you can tell me anything"
