acquired starfield and put about an hour into it so far, finished the first research outpost with the pirates then rescued a little outpost nearby
love the music, looks good and plays well on my PC
it still feels like fallout, but the combat and movement is a bit better. enemies feel spongey
spaceship flying kind of sucks and is very simplified but I wasn't expecting anything complicated or simmy, this isn't star citizen.
And I found a program to map my joystick and we'll see if that helps. I'm okay with arcadey flying in games but it's waaaay more fun with a flightstick. (I play war thunder in arcade battles with one, lots more fun than using a mouse and keyboard. One day I'll graduate to more realistic battles)
Anyway first impressions a solid 7/10, but we'll see how long I go before I get bored like I do with almost every one of bethesda's games. I'm intrigued by the story but they aren't known for solid main story telling

SO I was inspired by This Reblog and absolutely adore any and all dragon Aus. And was hit with a rapid bit of inspiration.
Danny sighed through his nose, rolling his shoulders as another blob coiled across his arm like a serpent. It was an interesting thing, how they mimicked other forms, though he didn't understand all of it.
Normally they wouldn't mimic him so much, not so strongly at least. But well, the ghosts here were mere whispers, visible to a few and unable to interact much. Which is what really brought him here in the first place.
Apparently something is blocking the access to the Realms here, enough that someone needs to do something about it. And look, he's not the Ghost King (thank fuck, he'd never be able to have Star-Time if he was) but he does sort of have a job to do. As the child of Time and new Ancient of Space to-be.
Not to mention that as said new Ancient-of-Space-to-be the Observants can't complain that much about him entering a world they didn't like.
And oh boy, this world. Yikes. There's some corrupted stuff freaking everywhere (even if not visibly), and monsters. And he does mean monsters, a lot of these things are corrupted as all heck- though thankfully the skeletal undead ones leave him alone no matter what form he takes.
On the other hand? There's this little gremlin child that reminds him of Ellie that runs into him repeatedly. Danny is starting to think it's on purpose actually. Child? Child where are your caretakers, you can't just charge at the lion-horse people- ... Danny despises prophecies. Alright child, he's going to start following you because you haven't even eaten tonight apparently. And your weapon has broken. Twice. And you're apparently surrounded by ghosts, how has he not noticed- alright. OKAY. This is fine.
-------------------------
Link, would like everyone to know, that he is actually having so much fun right now! There's this sort-of Hylian that he found when looking for Koroks whose sort of like a stal-hylian? Or something? But they're nice!
And they have wings! He thought it was some sort of cloak at first, but no, they're full on wings! And he's going to convince them to take him flying. He will.
After he takes care of this itching on his back, because it's getting really distracting...
Yes I used Flight Rising specifically because @fairy-lights-and-blobs mentioned it specifically for Danny's wings.

Khosha, Wife of Revali
As had become commonplace since the appointment of Hyrule’s Champions, the Flight Range of Rito Village had once again become alive with the chatter of five voices: the four Champions and Hyrule’s princess. Her appointed knight was also in attendance, the sacred sword in his possession, but he remained ever silent. He stayed near to his princess, providing comfort and protection to the young woman. The snow outside was beginning to taper off, but the party had yet to venture out of the small, interior area. All were still crowded around the small fire pit, except Revali, who stood aside fiddling with his aerial artillery.
"C'mon, Revali." Urbosa began. "Join the team for once."
"I think not, not only would that end distastefully with all of us around the fire, but I'm waiting for an arrival from the Village."
"If I may," Zelda began, pausing for a moment for an undetermined reason. "who is it we are expecting?"
"If the elder didn't change plans since I arrived here, which I'm not sure why he would have,” Revali replied with his ever-present self-confident tone and upward tip of his beak before his tone mellowed in its presentation. “then it will be Khosha, a songbird with a-” He allowed an audible pause in his voice, as if he was unsure how to describe the visitor. “-stunning admiration for the warrior arts."
The party took notice of Revali's seemingly uncharacteristic description, but were equally uncertain of what to respond.
"She sounds nice…" Daruk began, uncertain about the reply. “She a… friend of yours?”
“...You could say that.”
A silence fell over the Flight Range, one that felt almost awkward.
Revali returned to his weapons, Urbosa casting a glance at him before turning back to the fire to see her little bird move slightly both towards the fire and her knight; watching him discreetly squeeze her hand before letting go.
His face was emotionless as he did so, which normally wouldn't be much to note, but Urbosa and Daruk had seen how, in similar exchanges, he would let a smile or a nod shine through even if just for a moment. Through an exchange of their own, the two reasoned it was due to the increase of pressure and the amount of professionalism of the event.
The flap of wings began to be heard over the freezing wind, a Rito figure soon came into view, soaring into the Flight Range's side door with a sweeping wingspan and three balancing flaps. As eyes focused on the Rito, they found her beautiful. A thin braid of light teal feathers trailed down her right shoulder and chest, the back corners of her almond-shaped green eyes dark with gorgeous long eyelashes and her hay-colored beak, about half as long as Revali's, curled down to a pointed tip that was a peach-like hue.
"Khosha." Revali's voice was uncharacteristically soft. "Welcome."
A small chuckle was heard. "Revali." She looked around. “And Champions.” She lifted the medium-sized pot that she was gripping with her right foot. “I’ve brought a meal.”
Dishes were served and warriors were fed. Finally, Revali sat down near the group.
“It is wonderful to finally meet you all face to face. We don’t often interact with other tribes. Revali,” she nudged the bird. “Are you going to introduce me to your companions?”
The Champions were distracted from their meals for just a moment. Khosha must be a friend of Revali’s indeed, a simple villager should not have had the comfort level to ask Revali for an introduction.”
“Of course.” Revali set his bowl to the ground. “You are already aware of Princess Zelda, a Hylian from Central Hyrule. Sitting on her right is Princess Mipha, a Zora from Lanayru. On Zelda’s left is Link, Zelda’s bodyguard and the Hylian Champion. He’s actually a Wolfbred, from far east Necluda, but he was appointed as the Hylian Champion. Next to him is Urbosa, the Gerudo chieftain. And finally, Daruk of Goron City in Eldin.”
“My!” Khosha took the tips of Revali’s wings in hers. “You’ve become quite well-traveled, my dear.” She gestured softly towards Link. “I had heard the Kingdom reabsorbed your tribe. How has your tribe been adjusting?”
Link’s scarred lips pulled back slightly, but not enough to show any teeth. Zelda reached over his back and pulled him a little closer, as if to reassure him that the multi-colored Rito was not going to jump at him. The sudden touch brought a soft clicking sound from Link’s mouth, and he looked toward Zelda.”
“My apologies, Khosha. The Wolfbred can be… quite anxious. The people of my kingdom have not been as willing to accommodate them as my father and I have been, which only heightens their stress.”
“Ah, so the ban of the restraints has not changed public opinion much at all, has it?”
“No, sadly. In fact, I think my father’s decision to ban muzzling of the Wolfbred has only worsened opinions of him and his people; not to mention him being selected to represent Hyrule in battle. Pardon any offense, but I am surprised you know of such a matter.”
“I find none, Your Highness. That incident spread far throughout the kingdom. I believe almost anyone could identify the Champion by his scars alone.”
Link seemed noticeably more uncomfortable by this statement.
“That is… unfortunate for his safety, if Link might be identified so readily by such a permanent fixture on his body.”
Urbosa shuffled into a new position. “We’ve talked about the soldier boy, now what about you? You seem quite close to Revali.”
“I suppose now’s a good enough time as ever,” Revali mused from his piece of the floor. “Everyone, meet Khosha: my wife.”
~~~~
Evening came upon the village. Even though the snowstorm was long gone, the temperature continued to drop. After a long day of council, the Champions eventually ventured out to tour the Tabantha region, with an even more self-confident Revali soaring on the bygone storm’s remaining breeze. Of course he would act in such a manner. As fine of a warrior he was, a young Rito he remained. Last spring’s molt had taken her fledgling markings from her visage, but his remained as red, almost pink really, as ever. They too would be gone in the next few years, and she knew he’d continue to smooth over as they faded from his face. His personality had already mellowed significantly from their first encounters as fledglings. The Wolfbred warrior, Link, he seemed about Revali’s age. Perhaps that is why Revali had taken to such grandiose presentation after she’d been introduced to them. For any warrior, to be suddenly paired with a mythical warhound would be quite the shock to their ego, especially a perfectionist like her dear. Perhaps the two would grow close as they prepared for the Calamity’s arrival, close enough at least that Link’s presence would soothe Revali instead of leaving him with ruffled feathers.
The Princess and her warriors would be returning soon, as the sun would sink below the mountains before too long. After picking the Great Eagle Bow up from the bowyer’s shop and purchasing a full quiver’s worth of arrows from his wife, the fletcher, Khosha made one final stop near the village’s entrance, overwhelmed by thoughts from meeting Hyrule’s Champions that she must bring before her Goddess in order to find peace.
Oh Hylia, my mind is uneasy as I see the Champions appointed by your divine blessing gather. All of them… they have their peoples behind them… they have laid down lives that can still amount to so much… all for this cause.
Hyrule's princess, your incarnation descended, seems… ill of the mind. There is a darkness in her unnatural to her age. I suppose I should not be surprised. The Hyrulean Royal Family is broken. The King and Princess are fighting. The Queen has been dead for ten long years. I’ve heard rumors… rumors that the Princess was found in a silent rebellion with one of the knights… while I can only imagine that this is just a lonely girl crying out for love, I can’t help but worry on how far it may go… or how it may end… whether it warrant no consequences at all, whether someone will wind up in prison… or the bloodline extended…
…My apologies, Hylia, my mind wanders. Take my worries away from her, Hylia, she has an unimaginable share of other frets to manage on those small shoulders of hers. She has an entire world watching her every move, eagerly waiting for the divine glow of her birthright to illuminate an uncertain time. It is this power, this divine, glowing power, that causes the darkness in Princess Zelda, even more so than the lingering scars of her mother's death. She does not have access to it as her father demands. Your holy inheritance… a power intended only for goodness… yet it has caused only pain and sorrow for her and all in the castle… and possibly beyond.
Why do you leave her like this, Hylia? I know this darkness in her can be purged, I see it chased back like evil in the legends of old whenever she is presented with research… or she becomes newly aware of her knight's presence. That light in her eyes… I know it so well. It is the light of love. Love for relics of old, learning their forgotten purposes and watching them return to life… and love for him, Link the knight. It is his purpose to defend her, but I can see that she'll go out of her way to do the same for him. Seeing this light… it gives me peace for Hyrule's future…
Protect them, the Princess, the knight, the Champions… so that they all may return to their people from these ancient wonders of holy war… grant the Princess her power… the wear in her young body declares that she had proved rigorous dedication… the introduction to every battle and legend of old declares the need for the knight and the princess… As much as the Guardians and Divine Beasts will aid us in the fight to come, it is not them but her that is irreversibly needed. The legends dating back even to your original incarnation… The Divine Beasts aren't inscribed, but the Princess and Knight are. She needs this power, Hylia… why do you withhold it from her?
what I say: yeah I really liked botw, can't wait for the sequel, gonna spend hours playing it haha
what I actually mean: the reason I liked botw so much, even though at first I thought I'd end up hating it because I'm not good at open world-y games, is that there is so much nostalgia everywhere you turn. The Faron Ruins area is the temple of Skyloft that fell to earth (indeed, to the Faron woods) at the end of Skyward Sword, the Leviathan Skeletons side quest makes you literally visit and take photos of the skeletons of the Wind Fish (Link's Awakening), the Ocean King (Phantom Hourglass), Levias (Skyward Sword) and Lord Jabu Jabu (Ocarina of Time), beings that were often vital to the plot of past games, and even as someone who's been non-stop playing Zelda games for barely ~10 years as opposed to old-time fans these little details make me feel things that just make me wanna smooch kisses on generations' worth of Zelda developers' foreheads and thank them for all the adventures they gifted and keep on gifting us with
The Great From the Ground Up Re-Edit
Tumblr media
Finally announcing this!!
Over the past few months, I have completely re-edited my Breath of the Wild longfic From the Ground Up.
Since I finished FTGU in 2017 I’ve known I wanted to give it a refresh. It was written very fast and as a result lacks cohesion and has many formatting/spelling errors.
I will not be changing the plot. The edit focuses on the MANY opportunities to improve continuity, dialogue, location descriptions, characterisation and pacing. There is also new content where I felt scenes and ideas could be expanded upon, about once every other chapter. The original will be preserved if you really want to read it.
The changes will be made on May 5th.
I’m really excited to share what I’ve done with everyone!! As a short preview, here is a new scene in Chapter 7.
The next dawn found them at the gates of Gerudo Town; two Hylian Vai, one of whom wasn’t much of the a talker and the other brimming with excitement to be let in after a century away. Even so early the plaza was buzzing, the Gerudo and travellers taking full advantage of the morning’s cooler hours.
Merchants lined the long plaza street and were hocking their wares to any who passed. Under the palm trees that ran the length of the plaza, pairs of Gerudo stood gossiping, while others rested in the shade. Nearby, Gerudo children were splashing in tiled pools of water beneath the palms. There were Hylians too, and a Rito woman shopping for enchanted arrows, even a Goron among the gathered people of the plaza. Zelda felt her eyes glisten with tears to see it; she had forgotten, somehow, how at home she felt in this place.
Beyond, the palace apartments loomed, home to Chief Riju. Zelda knew little about the her, only that she was young – barely a teenager – but fearsome and brave. But their meeting would have to wait. Zelda wanted to enjoy the rest of their morning.
“Mother brought me here every chance she could,” Zelda told Link as they walked a loop of all the stalls. “The first hint of autumn and we would be off in the royal carriage for Gerudo. I remember I once asked her if Lady Urbosa our relative. I thought she and mother must be sisters, because why else would we visit so often? I suppose now I know that mother just wanted an escape. Even for a little while.”
Link didn’t say anything in response, and if he had any expression at all it was mostly hidden behind his Gerudo veil. But for a moment he paused, appraising her with what seemed like sympathetic eyes.
“I know what you’re going to ask. I have no intention of escaping myself, we still have so much work to do,” Zelda said. “Though a real holiday could be nice. Somewhere by the sea, like Lurelin.”
“Lurelin it is,” Link affirmed.
They had stopped outside a shop that Zelda didn’t recognise, and before Zelda could continue their conversation, a high and energetic call filled the air.
“Va’saaq! Fine wears of every kind at Starlight Memories Jewelery! Made with the best materials in Hyrule!”
OIt was a glamorous Gerudo woman, dressed tip to toe in intricate golden and green clothes and accessorised with precious gems of all colours. She positively sparkled in the bright desert light, and Zelda was immediately captivated.
The woman noticed them staring and laughed. “Come in, little vai! I have some earrings with your name on them!”
“M-me?” Zelda spluttered. “I couldn’t– we don’t even have many rupees and–”
“Wait a minute,” the Gerudo woman narrowed her eyes. “I remember you!”
The Gerudo woman laughed again. She strode over and held out a hand — to Link.
“You, mysterious vai! Link was it? Funny name. It’s me, Isha! I must thank you again. My shop thrives because of your generosity!” She shook his hand with vigour. “You must come see the new inventory. Your discount still applies of course, perhaps you’d like to purchase something for your friend, teehee.”
They followed the eager woman inside to what Zelda surmised was a jewellery store. “You helped open a shop?” she murmured.
“I gave her some flint I had lying around,” Link shrugged. “It didn’t take long, I swear.”
“No, it’s okay. I’m glad that you helped people.”
They stepped into the jewellers shop, which shone nearly as bright as Isha herself; circlets, earrings, bracelets, rings and belts in all colours and makes were on display. The store was already busy enough that it was a wonder Isha was trying to find more customers; at the counter, a Hylian traveller was haggling over a diamond circlet, while two Rito waited to pay for a pair of ruby rings, and in the far corner was a goron, carrying what looked like a spyglass and examining some of the goods up close.
Under his veil, Zelda sensed that Link was smiling. “I did,” he breathed. "I helped."
Isha was rummaging around behind one of the counters, but popped up briefly to address the Goron. “So what’ll it be Kairo, do we have a deal?”
“I gotta say I’m impressed!” said the goron. “I didn’t know my ore could sparkle like this.”
“Well look all you like, but I won’t let you leave Gerudo until we have a deal for regular supply. You bring me gems from Eldin, I can turn them into fine goods for you to sell on the road.”
The goron rubbed his chin. “I dunno. I wouldn’t really know how to sell this stuff… Let me think it over.”
Isha threw up her hands, and disappeared back behind the counter, reappeaing a few moments later with a small white box. “Here we go, special stock for my favourite vai.”
Approaching Link and Zelda, Isha held out the prized box with an excited grin, pushing it into Link’s hands. “Go on, open it. And if you don’t like them, they’ll go lovely with your friend’s eyes.”
Isha nodded towards Zelda, who could not help but blush.
Inside were two earrings of deep amber, cut with exquisite precision, their shape resembling that of autumn leaves. Zelda felt a strange energy radiating from them, as though the air around them was thicker somehow. Link picked one of the earrings up and held it to the light; flecks of orange hues caught a sunbeam and were scattered all around them.
“Look, I was going to charge, but these are on the house. Another thanks. I really couldn’t have done any of this without you,” Isha said. “Just don’t tell the other customers?
Link nodded, and carefully closed the box. “Anytime,” he said.
There was a crash behind them, and a gasp from the goron trader, who admittedly was a little too large for a store so full of delicate wares.
“Kairo!” Isha shouted, turning her full attention now back to the goron. “I said look, don’t touch!” And then she was hurrying back to the counter, stopping just long enough to wave to Link and Zelda as they departed.
“Sav’otta! Tell your friends about us! Soon there’ll be a shop like this in every town in Hyrule!”
Outside, the midday heat was rising, and even the shade of the palms and the cool waters of the plaza could not ward off the power of the desert sun. There was no delaying any longer. They stored in the amber earrings in the Sheikah Slate inventory, and headed towards the palace apartments to find Riju.
i remember your light
He never meant to get this far – what is he doing, he is not prepared, he is marching straight into Ganon’s maw, this is foolishness, but he is the Princess's fool, isn’t he, this is his task, his duty – but since he did make it this far, he will take that one more step.
Link finally gathers courage to venture inside the Hyrule Castle. Memories, duty, identity, it all comes crashing down during one fateful trip.
or: In which Link bakes Zelda a piece of cake. Eventually.
