it was late.

i was half asleep when he called — i ran towards my computer and opened it , that familiar skype jingle reverberating around my room. i joined , wiping the slight crust from my eyes as i was greeted by farleigh.

" mm , hey babe. "

he stretches his arms , it's 9am for me , but 2am for him. he's barely lit in his dim dorm room. " hey. " i smiled , i had a particular tiring day. " how's my girl ? "

he smiled along with me , his eyes widened in anticipation for my answer. " fine , just boring . . work and school is just killing me. " i say , he nods along. " i bet , were you asleep? " he tilted his head. " not really , was waiting for your call. " i chuckled.

it had been a few months since i had moved back to the states from oxford , i missed him so much. we had made oxford our home — once i was finally starting to feel comfortable it all just got ripped away from me by my family. " i miss you. " he chirps , i sigh.

" i miss you too. " i couldn't help but frown , we barely ever had time to talk - and when we did we were both usually so tired we'd fall asleep on call. which i didn't mind one bit. i grabbed my charging computer and unplugged it , bringing it on my bed , laying down.

" how was college ? " i finally spoke. " it was fine , just had a meeting with my counselor and he's going to get a few of my classes changed around. " he explained. " that's good , any plans for winter break? " it's almost that time of the year. half of me hopes i'd be able to go back to oxford to see him.

" actually , yeah. " he reaches down towards his desk , opening a drawer off screen. " are you doing anything? " he asks whilst searching for whatever he was looking for. " not really , just hanging around my family. " i didn't really want to be around them after what they pulled.

" ah. " he smiles. " close your eyes. " he chuckles a little , i shake my head and reluctantly do what he told me to do. i heard some shuffling but couldn't see a thing. " nooow . . open. " and i do , and he's holding a slip of paper towards the camera.

i could barely make it out , it took a minute and a bit of squinting to finally figure out what it was — it was a plane ticket. he was coming here , to me. i couldn't help but squeal , i was overjoyed.

" can't wait to see you. " he says , putting the ticket back into his drawer for safe keeping.

" i've missed you so much. "

and somewhere along the line, between civilians’ screams and taunting voices, between his shaking breath and ghost steady in his ear, that naivety is stripped away; his trust turned to teeth that he uses to sink into throats of men he'd have given his life for
