Book Blurb: Small and flightless, Carys lives on the fringes of her clan, pitied by other gargoyles and despised by her mother. Her lonely heart longs for a mate, one who can see past her malformed wings, but all she can think of is the haunting face she visits in an old well. Trapped for centuries, Gavriel roams the darkness of the Underhill, unable to escape the memories of his failures. His wounded soul craves freedom, but he finds solace in the mysterious maiden who visits him through a rift in his prison. Gargoyle and fae, separated by realms, connected by magick as ancient as the goddesses. Their love should be impossible—until one night, the barrier between realms begins to break… Fans of Sarah J Maas, Lisette Marshall, SL Prater, and the Gargoyles Disney show will love this friends-to-lovers historical fantasy/monster romance. Title includes several heavier themes as well as open door spice. Please check sewendelauthor.com for a full list of trigger warnings. Suitable for readers 18+. Originally published in the I Am The Fire Charity Anthology. This version includes over 5k more words to flesh out the world and story, as well as a second section of brand new epilogues, exclusive to this edition! Stone Hearts is a prequel story for the upcoming PNR series War of the Underhill.
Review:
Two people who were never meant to meet find themselves breaking realms to be together and sharing a love through the time.
Carys has been ostracized and shunned by her clan for her malformed wings, her only solace is the secret friend she has whom she communicates through the well.... Gavriel is tethered to the Underhill, unable to escape the guilt and pain of his failures, the only happiness he has is the mysterious maiden who visits him through the rift. When Carys’s living situation becomes unbearable and Gavriel is sent to hunt all of her kind... they find that they are mates but are strained by the fact that Gavriel is bound to another realm and that they can barely be with one another unless they find a way to free him. Together they will spend decades together, in love, in happiness, and trying to not only save Cary’s kin but also find a way to free Gavriel’s people. This was a really interesting fantasy romance, and I loved that we got to see their relationship span through time, decade from decade, and how just cozy and sweet it was. Overall, I had a lovely time with this one and though it ends pretty open ended it was a lovely read.

CS Fic Rec Monday: “Stone Hearts” by: @donteattheappleshook
I really feel like I don’t have words to explain how much this fic got to me -- it’s been whirling around in my head ever since. There were tears welling in my eyes numerous times throughout this. The angst and Emma’s pain and fear and how close she comes to giving up after such loss are so real and raw, and then @donteattheappleshook reeled me in even further with the possibilty that all might not be lost after all, and we get yet another version of Killian Jones working his way into our hearts.  I seriously feel like this one is always going to be with me, and I’m definitely going to be revisiting it any time I need a well done tearjerker with a healing resolution.
It already has gorgeous art (that I hope it’s okay to paste here) and I’m linking it below. I’m just stunned that this was @donteattheappleshook ‘s first long MC!!! It’s SO GOOD, and I really can’t say it enough -- see for yourself.

Character concept: kindly old mentor figure who is scouring the land in search of The Chosen One to pull the sword from the stone. They find the kid destined to be king, whisk them away on a magical adventure full of lessons like "be a good sport" and "always see the best in people," and guide them to the stone.
The child pulls the sword out and immediately gets knifed in the ribs by their mentor, who takes the sword, hides the body, and gets declared the rightful king.
