the main reason why devil may cry lives rent free in my mind is not because it has a very gay wacky woohoo demon slayer as a main character who doesn't know what sex is

it's not because the main antagonist of 3 and 5 is a certified weeb who fights his brother like they're two toddlers in a sandbox but it's to the death because they're demons and they can't really die

it's not because one of the other main characters is a punk emo boy who has a RED HOT REVVING MOTORCYLE SWORD and A GUN

it's not because in 3 there is a girl whose main weapon is a rocket launcher and she climbs the tower of hell to kill her dad because he killed her mom and left her to become a dumbass demon

it's because: these games have a style meter. a style meter, in my opinion is ESSENTIAL to incentivizing a player to not only play the game well, but also look cool while doing it. the better you do, the cooler and more badass you are in a fight, the more you're rewarded.

don't forget, in devil may cry 5, the intensity of the music depends on how well you're doing. if you're at D rank, you get like a base melody and simple drum beats, then you climb to S rank during the fight, and your brain implodes from dopamine overdose when the vocals kick in and you hear "BANG BANG BANG, PULL MY DEVIL TRIGGER"

there's a first person shooter on steam called "bright memory infinite" that also incorporates a style meter, and to top it off, it works really well (i only played the demo version i haven't played the full game yet)

my main point is: put a style meter in more games. it activates neurons that aren't normally activated when you play combat games. combo meters aren't enough, like god of war and diablo, because woohoo, big deal, you hit the enemies a bunch. but did you do it like a cool guy? HMM?

a while back i was reading an article about modern nunneries on some christian website and they were interviewing a mother superior (or whatever it's called) about some of the women whose process to join them as nuns she had overseen in her life; one of them she described as a 19 year old young woman, still a girl really, who had come from a broken and abusive home and was searching for safety and belonging, who was ill and insecure at first but then really started to blossom and heal, really detailed how much that girl transformed in just a few months and how well she fit and devoted herself to the others, and then she ended by saying she expelled that girl shortly before she reached 2 years because she could tell her heart was more deeply attached to their community than the faith. it's remarkable, this particular type of passionless austere cruelty that seems to be unique to nuns

Me and my bestie @/piconoodle have discovered the wonders of Multiplayer Ultrakill (by using the mod Jaket) and because of how we set it up it's very cursed and has a lot of quirks to it.

The mod makes you a v3 (whip lash colored retexture of v1) and all your other friends (I believe up to 5 players for each team, so like, a lot of players) are all also v3 units. Your team is decided by Wing color

Now that a basic explanation is over, time for silly drawings! (There's a lot so there will be multiple posts)

You can punch your teammates and heal from it (without hurting them) so it was very common for me to run up to them and punch them for blood mid-fight (I'm on the right side, designed myself after how I draw v2 because I'm a v2 girlie at heart, Pico is on the left, v1 enthusiast is based on v1, and also has the sandbox gmod arm because she had to use cheats to clip through doors that were broken for her)

Half the time she got stuck in the floors of hallways she couldn't even see rendering.

I'm an "ElderGoth" at this point in my mid-40s and the Victorian Gothic part of the wide range in stylistic Goth expression has always called to me since I started this life as a teen in the 90s. If you dig my style, please follow @gothiccharmschool, my beloved friend, who literally has written the book on this kind of thing and she showcases the full, beautiful scope of what can be found in our subculture.

To defend Hot Topic just for one second, some of their corporate nonsense aside, I grew up in rural Ohio and the Hot Topic at the mall was really all Goths had as a store, save the thrift store and vintage store (which is where I really developed my style) but Hot Topic, for kids of any alt / punk / goth / emo kind of vibe, it literally was a lifeline to feel like you weren't alone in the world. (I was the one and *only* Goth at my college in Ohio, a school of 16k+ people, I was used in folks' "subculture discussions" in their English classes every year). So, a national chain (that's still around) was something we celebrated.
