Bizarre silk
Bizarre silks are a style of figured silk fabrics popular in Europe in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. Bizarre silks are characterized by large-scale, asymmetrical patterns featuring geometrical shapes and stylized leaves and flowers, influenced by a wave of Asian textiles and decorative objects reaching the European market in these decades.
Around 1707 and 1708, bizarre designs combined distorted florals with architectural elements such as arches, canopies, pergolas, and diagonal fences. From 1709–10, the scale of the patterns was reduced and elements of chinoiserie and japonaiserie appeared.
The aesthetic of chinoiserie has been expressed in different ways depending on the region. It is related to the broader current of Orientalism, which studied Far East cultures from a historical, philological, anthropological, philosophical, and religious point of view. First appearing in the 17th century, this trend was popularized in the 18th century.

Some sketchbook practice drawings from today, featuring These Beautiful Weirdos.
(Transcript of my incredibly smudged handwriting under the cut for reference)
Birdman (affectionate) - referring to Simon
Repeated halfmoon “feather” pattern - referring to a rough sketch pattern for Simon’s design
Focused, hawklike; repeat pattern under eye - referring to Simon’s eye
(Simon’s) profile also mimics pattern … I want him to look handsome in a bird way.
Simon’s (halfmoon pattern) / Athena’s (crescent moon pattern) -> “points in” vs. “points out” (to reflect him being more closed off, but still connected)
Pendant + hair kinda resemble base clef - referring to Klavier’s design
Apollo: wide eyed expressions, large eyebrows, round eyes, thin lashes
Klavier: thick eyelashes, soft expressions, slight squint? (I see this in some of his sprites)
Angular, “zigzag” shapes .
Thick eyelashes, thin eyebrows - referring to Klavier’s eye
I think he needs contacts? - comment referring to a squinting Klavier
Flowy, ribbonlike pattern + earrings - referring to Nayuta’s design
Long lashes, coloured pupils - referring to Nayuta’s eye
I like this sprite! - referring to Nayuta’s calm, closed eyed sprite, drawn here featuring a “peace.” Speech bubble
A couple of flyaway hairs to mirror “ribbon” shape - referring to Nayuta’s braided hair
“It’s… just a duck..?” - Nayuta talking to a smiling Simon, who is inexplicably holding a duck

Do you know anything about this pattern? To me it looks like redbud leaves on a stream. They have those heart shaped leaves and little pink flower clusters. But there aren't redbuds in Japan, so what could it be?
Tumblr media
Arf this pattern is tought to tell for sure. What is puzzling me the most is the placement of those pink flowers thingies.
I mostly see spades tbh and it's hard to unsee ^^;
Aoi 葵 (hollyhock) are usually stylized very differently. Houzuki 酸漿 (ground cherry) could be a candidate but the pink inner would then have been round.
Those large leaves could match some plants in the ipomea family, like the yuugao 夕顔 (bottle gourd), but same those are not usually depicted this way...
If anyone here in the hive mind has a better idea please do share!

Hey! This might be a weird ask, but do you know anywhere that has Cambrian sewing patterns? I’ve been trying to track down a wiwaxia or anomalocaris, but no joy. Thanks in advance!
Hey! Not a weird ask at all, and I swear I've seen one for an anomalocaris before but I can't remember where?? I'll take a look and see what I can find, and hopefully someone will see this that has a link to a pattern Edit: So good news bad news, I did find the anomalocaris plush I was thinking of, but the designer has not shared the pattern. Good news is it looks really simple to design a pattern for a simplified version of it? I'd just need to handstitch on the curved front...not legs and use the same technique I use to make spider legs without having to sew each leg individually (topstitching, but maybe also pleating) Can you reblog this with some reference photos of anomalocaris? anomalocarises? I do not know enough about them to be able to distinguish which ones are good references

I just think his final ascension slaps SO hard
#;ooc#ooc#;d.ante#i like that it has some reminiscences to how paintings depicted the actual d.ante (fashion wise)#like the pointy shoes; the triangle shape on his chest that is like the one he has on d.omenico's painting#the laurel crown; the long robes; the use of red and black mainly#while still holding onto this fantasy game vibe look; like he just fits into f.go perfectly#the index and middle finger together making a reference to c.hrist (c.hristian iconography) as paintings often depicted this type of pose#a reference to the actual d.ante being c.hristian i assume#the spirals/circle-like patterns inside his robe#usually we tend to see those type of patterns when concepts like despair or madness want to be conveyed#it also fits with the whole layers of h.ell theme#also i might be tripping but the knot he has on his waist might be thisone type of knot made for rock climbing#which is also very fitting as a reference to canto 1; the start of the i.nferno part#bc it starts as he is in these dark woods and he sets out to climb up a small mountain to take a better view#but gets blocked by 3 beasts and so on so forth#i MIGHT be overanalizing it tho but if that was the case that would also be a nice lil detail#i really like when in the designs; there are these subtle elements that are characteristic of the figure in question#even if at first it might look random; which ok- sometimes it is; but also a lot of other times its not; but it gets underseen#its not bad if a design lacks on a 'meaning' behind it; the only difference is that if it has one; it adds a whole bunch more depth#because lets take as an example; a.rtoria/a.rthur's design#its not precisely charged of items/things that are reminiscing of king arthur but its still VERY iconic#it does convey a feeling that the character is either a king or a knight; so it works on that department#even if its lacking a bit on historical nudges and the such#it works in a different department; and thats good too because its afterall; a g.acha game and not a game that seeks historical accuracy#or like a.rash; but i feel like his design is meant more to convey an idea than a stylized cultural representation and/or show elements-#of his story; same as a.rtoria's/a.rthur's case#ANYWAYS WHATEVER#what the heck do i even know#dare i even add;; theres one pattern on his robe with 3 triangles;; the number 3 is also very iconic in the poem; 33 cantos 3 parts
