Me and @theeviltwinduh were talking and we think we've come up with an idea of a Death Note au that takes place in a world with SOULs like in Undertale? It's kind of just a fun thinkpiece idea, but here's what we have so far:

SOUL TYPES:

L: determination

Light: integrity (until death note)

Matsuda: kindness

Soichiro: justice

Sayu: perseverance

Near: determination

Mello: bravery

Matt: perseverance

Watari: patience

Misa: kindness (until Death Note)

Ryuk: monster soul (or soulless)

Rem: monster (soulless maybe)

What is unknown by Death Note users is the fact that using a Death Note means your soul slowly corrodes until it becomes nothing. Think Flowey style (but more gradually over time).

Remnants of the soul (if any) belong to the shinigami who originally owned the Death Note

Shinigami (which are one kind of monsters, although not all monsters are shinigami nor were all once Death Note users) were once humans, who, after exchanging their souls for the use of the Death Note, once they die, become shinigami.

#theres a specific reason why we decided not to put L or Light as justice #despite both (light especially) claiming to be #and put soichiro instead #and its because despite the fact that light wants to be justice so badly #what he's doing isnt justice #and for L it simply felt like determination was stronger for him #with soichiro its because despite some flaws #he is a person who leans very strongly towards justice #we also put near as determination because it felt very fitting #to have L's successor be the same soul type as L #all of these would be kind of subject to change?#just like us putting them in places with what feels right but some of them could also fall differently #also i hope the shinigami monster thing makes sense #undertale #death note #l death note #light yagami #l lawliet #touta matsuda #ryuk #misa amane #soichiro yagami #sayu yagami #near death note #mello death note #matt death note #rem #rem death note #undertale souls #undertale crossover
