Hey! So I was tagged by these amazing people: @elonanwrites @alextriestowritestuff @carrotgirl-weeb @sunflowersfor-amy and @creatinmaven !!! I already did this and haven't had time to write anymore since (😭) so I thought I'd just provide you with a nice length excerpt! This is from TSA, my wip about spies, and this is how Carol met her friends 😄

When she had initially received the scholarship, she hadn’t expected anything extraordinary to come from it. Sure, the fact that spies were real was unexpected, but it would still just be another school that she would inevitably get kicked out of for her impudent attitude. Another school filled with teachers that droned on about things she already knew and another grade full of idiots who took pleasure in attempting to degrade her confidence. It would just be another building of people whose IQs didn’t even come close to surpassing hers.

How wrong she was.

It was the first time since she was four years old that she was confronted by questions she didn’t know the answer to. She had never heard of the first spy to create a school, she had never studied how to defuse bombs, and she had never cared for Physical Education so she had trouble with combat training. For anyone else, the whole year would have been a disaster. Nevertheless, thanks to her IQ of 160, she was able to cram ten years of information into her brain in only one week. However, despite her swift adaption to the world of espionage, she wasn’t exactly welcomed with open arms.

“And where do you think you’re going?"

Carol looked up at the boy who had spoken (whom she would later learn was named Zachary Layton). He was tall and gangly, with black hair, and acne covering half of his face. His appearance was completed by a glare. A posse of glaring students emerged from behind him, all slowly surrounding Carol.

“To class,” Carol said matter-of-factly.

“I think you’re in the wrong place.”

Carol looked very unimpressed. “I may be new, but I’m not stupid.”

“You aren’t meant to be here,” the boy spat. “You’re a Normo.”

“A what?” Carol asked with a laugh. The boy only glared more. “What is that, the spy version of a Muggle?”

“Your kind is not welcome here,” he said, shoving her backwards. She looked rather affronted after being assaulted, both physically and verbally, for no rational reason. He continued to force her backwards harshly. “You’re not a spy. You got in on a scholarship. You don’t belong here and never will. You’re a Normo. Normos are not meant to be exposed to the concept of secret agents. No matter what Miss Hope thinks of you, you will never be accepted. You will never be appreciated. You will never be a spy.”

Carol raised her eyebrows in impassive surprise. “Wow. Rude.” She squeezed past the students who surrounded her as they all glared. “Not exactly the welcoming party I was expecting, but I’ve never been liked before, so why should anything change at the first school that’s wanted me here?” She entered the classroom, ignoring how the rest of the teenagers filed in behind her. “Also, boy-whose-name-he-never-gave, I am able to fully one hundred percent guarantee that I will be a better spy than you.”

“What makes you think that, you scum?” A different boy had spoken this time, and Carol simply looked at him boredly.

“Wow, very creative insult. Truly, I’m hurt by your words,” Carol said, her sarcasm remarkably evident. “But, if you must know, I am a literal genius, with an IQ higher than you can count—although you bunch seem like you couldn’t get past ten without trouble.”

There was a small snicker from the back of the room and every one of the bullies’ eyes widened in horror. Carol turned to see two more students sitting in the back of the classroom; the boy, looking at her with an impressed smirk, and the girl, looking at her nails stoically. The boy had side-swept black hair and warm brown eyes, while the girl had a messy blonde bun perched atop her head with eyes of icy blue—they were a perfect yin and yang. She watched as the boy gestured for her to come sit with them. No hesitation was needed for Carol to make her decision.

“Another genius at school,” the boy said. “It must be Christmas.” Carol’s eyes widened in surprise and hope. The boy was still grinning widely. “We’re both geniuses too.”

Carol felt her heart soar.

“I’m Gideon Zones,” he said, “and this one,” he thumbed at the girl next to him, “is Moira Lake.” Moira barely glanced at Carol, but nodded curtly. “Don’t take her aloof personality seriously, she’ll come around,” Gideon said with a laugh. “Hey, do you want some of my shrimp chips?”

Carol smiled in awe, feeling like maybe, just maybe, she was finally home.

I wish I was. “Tr/ue cri/me blog” on this site usually means “I think these serial killers are just ~misunderstood~ and also I want to fuck them”. I’ve only really found one blog that talks about the subject the way a normal person interested in it would. There might be more, but I don’t really check that tag because of all the gross people there.

You would look super cute as a blonde! Color treated shampoo is def your best friend if you end up doing it, but if you don’t want to use that, stay away from dandruff shampoo because it strips away color real quick. Also if you do it in the summer, I’d recommend wearing a hat when you’ll be in the sun awhile because that’ll fade your color too

WIP: Good For Something | World Building: Familiars

“A familiar,” He continued, “They’re sort of like your platonic soulmate.”   My eyes widened and I found myself leaning forward eagerly, taking sips of the milky coffee in front of me. “They’re your most trusted ally on an almost instinctual level. It’s hard to explain.” He said, his eyes scrunching up slightly as he went deep into thought. “When you’re with them its like you belong. They’re a person you know completely without trying. Someone who will always stand beside you. They’re a comforting presence. Like Hepton said, they’re your best friend.” He sighed, meeting my eyes, “It’s one of the strongest bonds you can have with a person.”

Origins

Familiars are another phenomenon which occurred after the Mystics Curse. It is believed that in killing her fellow Gods, she altered the human population as well. The souls of cursed individuals were split into two bodies as to balance out their Æthic auras in order to not place too much strain on the human body. What resulted from this was the creation of Familiars. Two people of true cursed equal. 

It is not something found within the pure population. 

Most individuals spend their entire lives searching for their familiar, though few are lucky enough to meet and experience a Surge.

Surges

A Surge is what occurs when Familiar’s meet and make eye contact. A Surge occurs when the soul calls to its other half when in close proximity. This results in the two Cursed individuals æthic auras Pushing out without aid or training in an extreme show of force, causing a lot more damage than when one of the individual’s Push on their own. Surges are called so due to their unpredictable and powerful nature. Though, as like Pushes, a Surge will have harsher effects when experienced with individuals with more powerful curses. 

The Surge is felt by all Cursed people within a mile radius. 

Surges are joyous occasions that are often talked about like other meet-cute situations such as meeting partners, first kisses and other such life events. 

Curses

Familiars have affinities to each other’s Curses, allowing them to more easily use the other’s Curse if they have access to a Cursed Crystal made by their Familiar.

Familiars are evenly matched in magical power often sharing compatible Curses of even strength, which many believe is the reason individuals find it easier to wield their Familiar’s Curse. 

Continuing after a Surge, the æthic aura’s of the individuals will calm and they will find their auras and Pushing easier to control when in the presence of their Familiar.  Not only does this become easier, but their overall physical ability (strength, speed, stamina agility) and their Curse become stronger when in the other half of their soul’s presence. This became very useful during the Boarder War’s when Noble would deploy soldiers in Familial Pairs in order to gain an advantage over the Southern population. A stipulation of becoming a member of the Queen’s Guard is that one must join and be paired with their Familiar in order to best protect the crown.

Tags

When one finds their Familiar, that person becomes their next of kin - It is believed that nobody will know what is in a person’s best interest more than the other half of their soul. Often, Familiar’s will wear dog tags around their necks with the name and contact identification number of their Familiar on it. This is mainly for medical emergencies when the next of kin needs to be contacted. However, over time dog tags have become iconic and an easily recognisable way of knowing someone has met their Familiar. They are often worn on show. 

Health

Familiar’s are often soothed from being in the presence of the other. They will also find the Push of their Familiar comforting rather than debilitating. A Cursed individual can force a feeling of calm and ease on their familiar by placing their foreheads together. 

It is well documented that long term separation of Familiars can have a detrimental effect on an individuals mental and physical health. If separated from their Familiar for more than a month, both sides of the soul will begin to feel lower levels of mood and may begin to experience chronic pain.

New Tag Game

Hi! So I’ve been thinking of this idea for a while now, but thought it would be fun to kind of jump into today and also give me another totally unnecessary opportunity to slack off with working on my WIPs!

The grandfather clock tolls. The ringing: late, late, late; the droning in my head. I knew that, I was late an hour ago. WIP: Good For Something | World-building: Demons

“You’re not going to hurt me, are you?” 

“Never. You’re my familiar.” The words came out like a guttural growl that had the hairs on the back of my neck standing on end. 

I swallowed the lump in my throat.

“Is this what it means to be a demon?” I asked carefully, gesturing to my face instead of his, unsure of what to make of the look in his eyes that was becoming a lot less human and a lot more monstrous. 

He shook his head, the mass of razor sharp teeth glinting in the candle light. 

“I’m holding back quite a bit.” There was a tightness in his jaw that wasn’t there before. 

I let my hands drop from his face, and he ducked his head to press it back into my open palm, looking up at me.

“Show me.” I said, steeling myself for what was about to happen. 

He leaned back slightly, elongating his neck.

And, with the stretch of muscle and crack of bones, I watched my familiar shift into something inhuman. 

Within the blink of an eyes, the teenager in front of me was gone. 

Instead, I was sat in an expensive hotel room, nose to muzzle with a large black wolf with blazing red eyes. 

Basics: 

Demons are a phenomenon of non-human creatures native to the Hellscape, though few chose to take passage into The God’s Continent in search of pacts, mates or to just escape the harsh life of the darker world. 

Demons can take many forms, though the most common form is known as Shifters. These Demon’s can take a specific animal or human form with ease once they reach maturity. 

With heightened senses, superior physical ability, yet the ability to understand and relate to the human psyche, Demons truly are the top of the food chain and are the most dominant predator with either a physical tendency to lean towards either strength or speed. 

When in human form it is very difficult to distinguish a demon from a human, the only attribute that could be used to tell whether it is a human or demon you are talking to is their lack of heartbeat. 

It is said that demons carry a heavy and individualistic scent in order to mark their belongings and to warn other demons away from their territories. 

History: 

The histories say The God’s themselves were the beginning of Shifters. Upon the world’s creation the elemental God’s found themselves gifted with the ability to shift into animal form.

Fire took the form of a wolf. Earth took the form of a lioness. Water took the form of a Horse. Air took the form of a vulture. The Moon was the only God to not take an animal form. The sixth was erased from record. 

Packs: 

Demon’s are social creatures that form small groups that become their main social support system akin to family units and Familiars. These groups are named Packs. 

These groups are usually no bigger than five members and the bonds are often formed when the members go through significant changes or events in their life. Packs develop extremely strong personal bonds with the separation or death of a pack-mate will cause significant emotional and chronic physical pain, much like long term separation from a person’s Familiar. 

Members of the same pack can be recognised by the appearance of a tattoo-like brand somewhere on their bodies that they share.

Packs usually are formed around a leader or an alpha, who have elements of their æthic aura that non-alpha demons find soothing yet commanding. 

Mates: 

A Demon’s significant other is known as their Mate. These are a Demon’s life partner. The are creatures that mate for life, and after the death of their Mate the cannot mate again, unlike some animal creatures that will find another mate for the next breeding season. Demon’s mate through exchanging bites to the neck or shoulder regions as a physical means to create a permanent bond.

 Demons have breeding cycles a few times a year once reaching maturity with the rate of these cycles increasing depending on whether they are mated or not. Demon’s refer to their offspring as their young. If mated with a human, there is a 50/50 chance of their young being demon or human. If a demons young takes after a human they are called Demi-Demons.

Not all demons are heterosexual, yet those who aren’t still experience compulsions akin to breeding cycles with partners. Demons have been known to adopt and care for abandoned or orphaned young. 

Curses, Pacts and Humans:  

Demons were cursed along with humankind so have abilities and Familiars as humans do. However, there is a phenomenon known as Demon Pacts. Little is known about Demon Pacts, other than the fact that if a demon loses their Familiar at a young age they are sent out from the Hellscape to The God’s continent to make a deal. These deals are usually the gift of their Curse to a human in exchange for something of the demon’s choosing and familiarship. Little else is known to humans. 

Demons relations with humans can be anywhere from hostile to romantic depending on the particular demon. Predominantly, Demons keep to themselves and are never heavily involved with humans unless they are Familiars with one or seek one as a mate. 

Though primarily social creatures, there are few recorded demons currently residing on The God’s Continent. Those that are recorded are in service of the Queen. 

Here we go! My take on shifters! My ode to paranormal fantasy. I hope you guys find this interesting. I’m trying to subvert the ‘big bad alpha werewolf male’ thing thats been around since forever, so this is still a wip within my wip! I’m sorry for the long post and I hope you like it.

This time I’ll do ScribbleMyth.

What are the themes in your story/current WIP?

The destructive nature of the media, wishing for a different life and how a group of friends can change lives if if they stick together (yay!).

Why does your novel/current WIP matter and in whose voice is it explained?

It matters to me. Idk if it’s good on any level and I don’t care, because at this point, it’ll be a milestone in my life to write this book the way I know it can be written.

My main character Azazel Lamia narrates the events of ScribbleMyth: The First Development.

Where would your readers find your books/current WIP in a physical bookstore?

I’m not sure really. YA (maybe kids books). Almost definitely in the mystery section.

Language Spoken: English, Russian (I’m currently taking Japanese as a language but I still suck lol)

Nationality: American

Favorite season: Probably either fall or winter; I just like the colder months of the year since Cali gets HOT during the summer

Favorite flowers: Dunno, hydrangeas I guess?

Favorite scent: Apple pie when it’s fresh out of the oven, vanilla

Favorite fictional character: Ugh I just can’t choose! Maybe Marvin from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy? Or Iroh from AtLA

Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate: I like all of them lol but I’d have to pick tea. Nothing like writing with a hot cup of jasmine tea.

Average hours of sleep: During the school week probably 8-9, but on weekends and breaks closer to 12 lmao.

Cat or dog person: Cat all the way!

Number of blankets you sleep with: Just one big one. In the summer I switch it out with a slightly lighter one.

Dream trip: Definitely Europe. Probably Italy or France? I went to Japan over the spring so that’s checked off my bucket list.
