Ok, this is amazing I recently passed the Tumblr shoelace ritual. Long story short, I was at a market day in my school and saw some stickers. Gandalf's big naturals. Even as someone who doesn't really spend that much time in the LoTR/Hobbit area of Tumblr, I knew about That. I couldn't help myself, it was right There. Probably far to giddily holding that Gandalf sticker (with wasn't just a normal old big naturals, mind you. That wizard was in a laced bra, usually enough to turn me redder than a tomato)

"Which one of you designed this?" I asked on of the two people at the stall (ps everyone was selling their own sruff, so I wasn't afraid in the slightest that the creator of this wouldn't be there.)

"She did," the one I talked to responded. Oh my heart was pounding. All social awkwardness completely evaporated in the face of THE most Tumblr Thing I could do.

"I like your shoelaces." Gosh, I wish I could have talked to literally anyone with half the confidence that I had in that moment. I'm pretty sure I saw just a tiny bit of life drain from their eyes. I'm so sorry but c'mon. Gandalf Big Natruals stickers. Did you really think you could avoid this?

"Thanks. I stole them from the president." I WILL RIDE THAT HIGH FOR THE NEXT MONTH, AT LEAST.

ps. If anyone finds my new buddy (I know it's unlikely but gotta give it a shot.) Just want to let you know that their art is amazing and you should definately by something from them if they take commissions.

Anyway. Bi and Mspec Lesbians aren't a hotly "debated" topic or even new to queer culture, it's just the newest thing that bullies who REALLY want to be homophobic and even racist use to justify harassing gay people they don't like.

It's the thinnest possible veneer of progressive language wrapped around TERF and reactionary rhetoric so that they can feel righteous for forming an angry mob against vulnerable targets. If you're gullible enough to fall for the newest wave of bigotry within the queer community, and turn on your allies because they're "confusing" or "invading your spaces," the SAME way they turned on bi/pan labels, trans people, xenogenders, neopronouns, and aroace people before this, then get lost.

hmmm it seems i have a differing opinion from the majority online abt the watcher move to their own platform. as someone who has hung around creator spaces and The Industry for around a decade now i guess i have a unique perspective on it

my opinion is good for them and i hope they are able to make the content they want without having to subject themselves to the humiliation of ad reads and youtube censorship which has gotten outright orwellian. i think “ugh not another streaming service” is totally the wrong take away from creators breaking away from being beholden to creating free work for a platform that treats them like shit, and they are well within their rights to control the way their productions get funded especially after years and years of having to create content under a corporate umbrella of dogshit

capitulating to fan entitlement always makes your work worse. and is disheartening to see people being unsupportive of creators they claim to respect because they are divesting from megacorps that suck ass to own their own work? wtf is going on

Watcher fans sure are entitled and a little insane, ngl. "No one is going to sign up for your service! We're all poor! You've made the worst decision, and you'll be back in no time!" Saying this directly to the creators really reminds you of how low the respect for people you don't personally know has gone. I miss the forth wall between creator and audience.

I get and fully understand not having the money to support them, but... Watcher does have fans with money. A lot of them actually. They have merch sales. Their live tour sells out most venues. They have thousands of supporters on Patreon, where the cheapest tier is $5. They're able to gauge the rough finances of their staunchest supporters; that's how they landed on the subscription price. Yes, this move will reduce their viewership in sheer numbers, but to say all of their fans are broke and none will follow/support is factually incorrect.

It may not be a decision everyone agrees with, but severing the limitations of advertisers and youtube in favor of artistic freedom is a good thing. Yes, even if it comes with a loss of revenue. They understand that risk.

Also, I'm begging people to stop treating this like "another Netflix" or something and instead look at it as, "I am supporting a creator I like, similar to Patreon." They literally said in the video that they don't care if you share accounts. Get five friends, and you'll pay $1/mo.

I hate feeling compelled to rant in favor of their decision because I have my own reservations about whether it's the best move. However, I know it's not a choice they made lightly, and I like to think they understand that they'll need to branch out like crazy to entice subscribers.

Honestly, this whole AI bs did so much critical damage to my emotional HP, I felt we really needed more people talking about it, so here I am!

I made this post merely to calm you down, show the options and give you some hope that yes, there’s still a future for our career!

i just watched nimona

it was adorable and amazing, the animation was god tier and it warmed my heart with joy to see drawings from the webcomic show up in the film <3

that said, i was so ecstatic to see nimona get a film adaption at all, webcomics still struggle to compete for attention and respect in our current media climate. so I guess I wanna use this opportunity, as a webcomic artist of the last 10+ years, to remind y'all to read indie webcomics, there are so many amazing stories hiding out there that have so much to say and the only reason they're not being heard is because they're not part of the mainstream hype machine. there are comics on other platforms outside of webtoons and tapas, there are comics that can't be found on the shelves or found online, there are comics living in their own little corners of the internet or on a bookshelf somewhere just waiting to be found, just as works like Nimona and Heartstopper once did :' )

also will probably be drawing some fun nimona stuff because damn if she ain't damn perfect LOL
