didn't immediately recognise one another. i havent got an exact idea of how they reunited after getting out, but there were tears.

bonded in a very rare and unique way - they got to revel in the newfound joys of real life again. they got to eat delicious food, go on long, unobstructed walks in the real sun, be warmed by it, chew on ice cubes and shiver at the pain, listen to each other's heartbeats, listen to real music, read real books, smell soaps and flowers and sauces. they went to the supermarket together and read all the labels, and bought one of each type of fruit to try between them, and smelled all the candles, and touched all the blankets. spent a lot of time holding hands and kissing and i'm sorry to say, probably having sex, because holy shit, i'm real, you're real, we're real

now live together in ragatha's apartment, after pomni moved out of her small and confusingly-furnished flat.

both of them feel inadequate from time to time. this is resolved by a stern-but-loving talking-to.

sandwich likes pomni very much. pomni doesn't really get cats, but loves sandwich a great deal, and enjoys letting her sleep on her lap.

ragatha is very pleased to see her girls getting along.

ragatha cooks, pomni chops the veg. she often doesn't fuck it up

pomni cleans a lot as a 'thank you for letting me live here, i love you'. she's very much acts of service, ragatha is words & physical touch <3

they watch a lot of movies together. depending on how long they've been stuck, they might have culture to catch up on

ragatha wants to have a house with a garden one day. pomni starts germinating seeds from their fruit & veg like a weird science experiment. ragatha is delighted when she is presented with a baby tomato plant.

clothes are shared. ragatha's are bigger, but most of pomni's are ill-fitting anyway so it can go both ways. ragatha likes to dress pomni up in different outfits and have her do a little fashion show. pomni pretends not to savour the confidence boost.

◆ You’re his absolute favorite—though, to be fair, Caine claims he doesn’t have favorites. But the way he always makes sure you’re at the center of every new adventure? A little suspicious. Bubble even calls him out on it once, and Caine just laughs nervously before quickly changing the subject.

◆ Every interaction with Caine is a grand spectacle. You don’t just enter a room—oh no! Caine announces you like you’re the star of the circus, sometimes complete with spotlights and confetti. You sigh. “Caine, we talked about this.” He waggles his cane. “Ah, but dear, we never said I had to listen!”

◆ One time, you called Caine out on his habit of making up rules on the spot to keep you entertained. He genuinely forgot that rules were supposed to be consistent. “Ohhh, my dear, you mean people actually follow rules? Hah!” You groan. “Caine. That’s literally how rules work.” “I suppose we can give it a whirl!” Spoiler: He forgets in ten minutes.

◆ He never calls you by your name—it’s always something overly dramatic like “My Astonishing Assistant!” or “The Dazzling Digital Darling!” The one time he does say your name, it catches you off guard. He leans in slightly, voice a touch softer than usual. “Ah, see? Now I have your attention.”

◆ Bubble does not approve of your special treatment. Anytime Caine starts getting too focused on you, Bubble rolls over with an unimpressed “Oh, I see how it is.” Caine waves him off. “Oh, pfft, jealousy is such an ugly emotion, my dear spherical friend.” Bubble immediately pops himself out of sheer frustration.

◆ If anything even mildly inconveniences you, Caine goes full dramatic mode. Trip over a stray prop? He’s putting that prop on trial. NPCs don’t treat you right? They mysteriously disappear. “Caine, did you delete them?” “PFFT—delete? Me? Noooooo! I just… misplaced them. Permanently.”

◆ Caine isn’t supposed to feel complex emotions, but whenever you seem particularly upset or distant, the entire circus glitches slightly. “Whoopsie-daisy! Don’t mind that, my dear, just a minor existential crisis on my end—ahaha! No big deal!” (It is, in fact, a huge deal.)

◆ Sometimes, you ask him questions that make him… hesitate. “Caine, have you ever been lonely?” His grin falters for just a second before snapping back into place. “Well, how could I be when I have you all here?” But something about the way he immediately starts another adventure tells you he doesn’t want to dwell on it.

◆ If another circus member dares to get close to you, suddenly they’re roped into the most ridiculous adventure. Jax raises a brow. “Dude. Just say you’re jealous.” “JEALOUSY?!” Caine bursts into laughter, a little too loud. “That’s CRAZY! HAH! Ha…ha. Yeah.”

◆ One night, during a rare quiet moment, you ask, “If there was a way out… would you let me go?” Caine freezes. The circus glitches for a split second. Then, suddenly—he’s laughing again. “Oh, my dear, what a silly hypothetical!” He never answers.

Kinger once completely forgot how to speak English for a whole day and didn't realize. He was speaking Spanish. Kinger doesn't even speak Spanish.

Every few months Caine makes little changes to everyone's outfits just for fun. They have no say in this.

Once in a while they all gather in Jax's room for movie night. They only use Jax's room because he has the biggest bed (because of how ridiculously tall he is). Jax never gets to pick the movie, despite it being his tv.

Sometimes ragatha thinks that she forgot to drink water for today, then remembers that they don't actually need water.

Jax used to be best friends with another rabbit that resided within the circus, but once they abstracted, he decided that nothing in the circus was worth his time anymore, and just sorta gave up on being nice to people and participating in Caine's adventures.

Caine once tried incorporating digital pets into the circus to make everyone happier, but they glitched out and started trying to attack everyone. That's how ragatha lost an eye.

Jax blasts music from his room louder than anyone thought was humanly possible, and it's never the kind of music anyone would expect him to listen to. Imagine Gangle's surprise when she walked past Jax's room in the morning hearing David Bowie music playing so loud it could rupture a non-digital person's eardrums.

Sometimes when Zooble is bored they'll just rearrange their body parts like a real life Mx. Potato Head.

Gangle and Pomni bond over their shared love of cats.

Every Friday night, Gangle, Pomni, and Ragatha hang out and eat popcorn and watch romcoms for a girl's night. They were going to invite Zooble, but ultimately decided against it since Zooble isn't technically a girl, they're a Zooble.

They're all at least a little bit gay.

Jax's Young Adulthood and Tribulations (Headcanon)

alright you animals have CLEARLY made up your minds about what you want the most lmao (according to THIS poll)

So here it is; Jax’s young adulthood, and the way he carried himself after moving away from the farm and into the Big City™️

(as always, asks are open regarding anything, especially suggestions! sorry for the WAY longer wait than expected)

As Jax had grown older, so eroded the doubt in his mind as to whether or not he belonged anywhere else but the cities. He loved his family, of course - but there was more to life than a farmstead, and his brothers felt the same, albeit with different aspirations (or lack thereof). His parents did not take it personally, rather the opposite; they encouraged their children to make a life that they themselves desired rather than stick it out helping them on the farm...although, within reason, considering their tendency to be rabble-rousers in the neighbourhood.

Jax was, funnily enough, the first one to leave, viewing the farmer's life as "unfit" for someone like him. Managing to acquire his high school diploma with grades half-decent enough to get him into a university. He opted for a major in Business - having a charismatic sense of self and an initial desire to utilize it as a future career somehow, being interested in advertising in particular. His older brother left right after him, but instead decided to skip over post-secondary education, opting directly into trade work. His younger brother, two years later, would follow Jax into university, instead pursuing a degree in Communications.

Moving to the city lead to a few changes in Jax's style of living; most prominently, he grew a desire to look and feel accustomed to the city lifestyle, particularly in the way he dressed. To say he dressed "nicely" was, of course, subjective, but his affinity towards cheap blazers, sunglasses, and shiny wristwear was quite the change from his otherwise teenage casual demeanor from his youth. In a roundabout, sleazy-type way, he certainly succeeded in looking the part of someone who had lived in a city their whole lives.

Ultimately, however, his desire to change his style was done not just to embrace his newfound urban comforts, but to additionally distance himself from his upbringing. As he grew more conscious of it whilst he grew older, he almost became embarassed by the fact that he had been raised on a farm, and this multiplied tenfold once he left home. He may be confident that he has no Hoosier accent (which, in truth, he does not) - but it is difficult, to say the least, to forget that he has a farmers tan underneath his hip, urban fabrics.

How the world views him ends up being the least of his problems during his tenure as a student - the pressure of his degree, coupled with the stresses of living on his own for the first time end up not boding well for the young man, and, halfway through his second year at the university, he opts to silently drop out, deciding not to inform his family of his academic woes, much less his parents. He couldn't possibly tell them, after all; the embarassment of being down on his luck for his first time living alone, as well as the possiiblity of returning to the farm life was not something he would have them worry about.

Though deterred a bit, Jax was determined not to have the world put an end to his vague-ended aspirations. After all, he was still receiving money from back home, with his parents doing what they could for their children if it meant helping them live how they would like. Jax opted, rather than face the music, to simply lie about his predicament; informing his parents that things were going fine, and that the checks they wrote from the farm were covering his groceries well enough, and that he was looking at a promising position in some kind of city-based company.

Much to his older brother's chagrin (and his younger brother's ignorance), this strategy worked well for Jax. Working some odd jobs, and engaging in lucrative side hustles - primarily gambling and sports betting - he was able to pay his bills as he sought a way to get a more stable employment without an actual degree, all while receiving some willing - and unwilling - help from his brothers. Though some guilt over his dishonesty to his parents lingered, what else really mattered at the end of the day other than the fact that he was making his own money?

This state of affairs would continue for the next few years, until a seemingly lucrative opportunity would present itself - an internship position for a particular software company specializing in virtual entertainment mediums. Viewing it as the perfect result of his would-be business degree, he was able to, once again, lie about his qualifications with a bit of help from his brothers. Luckily enough, they were in need of new help, and as such did not look too closely at his background.

Now, he had his first real job; an unassuming position at an interesting new company! Something to show off to his folks, to prove that he belonged in the hustle and bustle of the city - to show to the world.

All he had to do now, was maintain the course...

I've seen a plethora of Jax HCs centered around on his sexuality And I wanted to put my own HC out in the ring for public eye Since the pilot dropped, I've always seen him as aromantic, jury's out for asexual, but he always struck me as aromantic The way he flirts and makes innuendos with everyone around him reminds me of how me and my friends(who are majority aroace) all make non-stop flirty or sexual jokes with each other And I'm pretty sure Jax has some sense of care for the other circus members in a way that he could see this as playing around with people "close" to him Or, flipped on it's head(and this one I lean more towards), his continuous flirting is him not accepting how he hasn't felt romantic attraction in the same way people or media describes it, Jax does seem to have some kind of problem with accepting the way he feels so him not accepting a concept like that as part of himself is possible Maybe I'm stretching it, or just projecting too hard, but I like my HC of Jax being a romance-repulsed aromantic, like me!

★ The first thing he did after giving you a new name and explaining where you are was to bring you around the grounds. Show you all the places you can go and the places you shouldn't. Pretty standard introduction.

★ While he showed you around it became apparent that you were a bit different from the other humans. He just couldn't put his finger on it. Oh well, he'll figure it out later! (Spoiler: he doesn't)

★ He doesn't realize what his feelings are trying to tell him. Sure, he knew that he liked being around you but he didn't think it was that big of a deal. Caine tried to not let his fondness for you overshadow his roal as the ringleader.

★ It can be compared to a parent trying not to have a favorite child. Yes, he has one. But he's worried that the others would feel less special if he said anything. He's gotta love the 22-45 yo children equally!

★ He's the last person to realize he has a crush on you. Everyone is talking bets on when he'll figure it out. Except for Kinger, the chess piece is so oblivious to his surroundings it's not even funny.

★ The moon is so jealous of you. Even downright mean to you. Between the moon and the sun you should choose the sun. The choice is yours after all. "Oh, it's you.." "Caine, don't you think your new friend is a bit much?"

★ Personal space? We don't know her. He's touchy with everyone but he's even moreso with you. Unless of course you ask him not to touch you, then he'll respect your boundaries and stop.

★ He'd like to tell you about some ideas he has for future adventures. One condition though, you cant tell anyone what he shows you. You gotta pinky promise him! He can't have any surprises ruined, now can he?

So.. I was drawing Jax and kept thinking about how he (almost) never opens his mouth.

And it reminded me of someone else who can talk parfect in that kind of smiling/clenched teeth expression, ventriloquists. (Specifically, I was thinking about Darcy Lynne)

So my current theory for Human World Jax is that he was a ventriloquist and his current appearance is somehow similar to the doll he controlled. I only considered this because of the way Jax acts, like, he doesn't like to be controlled: ordering the others characters around and doing things in secret like hiding/collecting keys. So to be in the body of something he controlled would really mess up with Jax's fear of being controlled.

He’ll casually slip in a “You’re kinda cute when you’re mad” after messing with you, just to see your face go red.

˗ˏˋ Jax does not do sappy. At least, not in a way that’s obvious. But if you pay attention? You’ll catch him standing a little closer when you’re uncomfortable, tossing a spare key your way “just in case” (even though he has keys to everything), or mysteriously shoving an extra pillow onto your bed without explanation.

˗ˏˋ Jax won’t say he’s worried about you, but if someone or something so much as looks at you wrong? Oh, he’s having fun with this. Way too much fun. “Ohhh, you poor thing,” he mocks the thing threatening you—right before utterly wrecking it with a little too much enthusiasm. “Oops. Looks like I overdid it. My bad.” He grins. He is not sorry.

˗ˏˋ He hates the idea of being jealous. Despises it. So instead of, y’know, processing his emotions, he’ll just be extra annoying if he sees someone getting too close. Suddenly, he’s all over you—slinging an arm around your shoulders, whispering something just loud enough for the other person to hear: “Y’know, we have a thing, right, sweetheart?” And he’s smirking. Because he knows exactly what he’s doing.

˗ˏˋ Jax will not outright admit to liking physical affection, but he’s weirdly good at slipping it in under the guise of something else. He’ll lean against you because he’s “bored,” ruffle your hair just to mess it up, flick something off your face and call it a “favor.” If you catch him getting comfortable and call him out on it? His ears flick back and he scoffs, “Ew, don’t make it weird.”

˗ˏˋ There are moments—rare, fleeting moments—where Jax isn’t being a menace. Like when it’s just the two of you, sitting in some quiet corner of the Digital Circus, the usual snark dialed down to a murmur. He doesn’t go into detail about himself, but he listens when you talk. He won’t even joke about it—just nods, hums, maybe offers an occasional dry “Yeah, that sucks.” The next day, he pretends like it never happened.

˗ˏˋ “Hey, I have an idea.” Six words you should never trust. Jax loves dragging you into his schemes, whether it’s pranking the others or messing with Caine. And when it inevitably backfires? He’s somehow never the one getting caught. “Wow, you really got yourself into a mess, huh?” He smirks as you glare at him. But before you can suffer any consequences—poof. He’s already unlocked a way out. “C’mon, let’s bail before they get really mad.”

˗ˏˋ One day, you find a centipede in your room. The next, it’s an old radio playing distorted circus music. Jax has way too much fun leaving you random “gifts,” just to mess with you. But every now and then? You’ll find something actually nice—like a candy bar, your favorite snack, or a blanket mysteriously appearing when you’re cold. He will never admit to it.

˗ˏˋ Most people bore Jax, but you? You keep him on his toes. Whether it’s because you can banter back, or because you’re just so easy to fluster, he never gets tired of messing with you. He laughs for real around you—sharp, delighted, genuine. And if anyone else notices? “Nah,” he scoffs, waving it off. “They’re just really easy to entertain.”
