the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

dawn/duška: very strongly acearo but has a weird lowkey fixation on cynthia (that kinda gets transferred to volo when she gets eebie deebied to hisui? if it does she's at least aware of it at that point and tries to ignore it. not quite successfully. like she's got this Thing about a woman most certainly unattainable for years unending and then gets thrown in front of a guy who looks just like said woman who is theoretically much more attainable. it's A Lot is what im sayin)

summer: there's some weird tension between her and blue for a few different reasons during gs (this is my mirror, this is my undoing, this is who saves me when i wouldn't have done the same), but do get together postgame and post-big-wip-fanfiction. they're both a little silly emotionally so it's not like an easy or quick process lol but they get there. (technically a throuple with red eyes but this aint about him)

hilda/gwyn: gets together with bianca just before or after bw climax, a casual item bw postgame. and then she gets Got by ghetsis and is stuck in the dark stone with zekrom for several years and maybe their personalities merge a little bit and she comes out Different. and both of them aren't quite sure about it (they're both still best friends and care for each other, gwyn still loves her, but she's more aggressive, more detached from other humans... it's a bit rough for both of them)

serena/yvonne: gay gay homosexual gay her and shauna get together mid-journey and stay together! they both do struggle, having both gone through Horrors Unimaginable - yvonne more broadly (shauna helps ground her when her I Am God thots get too big) but they remain a successful item :)

selene/moon: GAY GAY HOMOSEXUAL GAY her n lillie obvs. experiencing the horrors together. long distance relationship coparenting a centuries, possibly thousands of years old alien. initially v friendly with each other, took each other a while to open up about their respective issues, very standard cute romance, they deserve it. probably nothing bad will cause them any strife. probably. lusamine's theme intensifies

solana - i don't care abt pr1 as much as the others but i like to think she's bi. paparazzi accounts vary on which of the go-rock quads she's having a thing with. aria is very secretly very attracted to her arms (very strong)

kate - not my soa protag but she's still prominent in the narration; i'm torn between 2 interpretations of kate/rhythmi 1) an item since early ranger school, went on break when assigned to different areas but never develop an interest in anyone else and resume being Together once Kate is promoted to top ranger 2) kate has a crush on her for a Very Long Time but doesn't act on it (doesn't want to violate prime directive/potentially ruin friendship) while rhythmi is undergoing compulsory heterosexuality. rhythmi figures it out eventually and goes oh. Oh! and immediately goes to suck face with kate (who is crying tears of joy at this point) (also they may be part of a loose poly thing with kellyn and keith? idk figuring it out. they at least all share an apartment)

cynthia/diantha - Yes. strong respect for each other as battlers, personalities mesh well mostly behind closed doors (where diantha feels less pressure to be diantha the movie star and champion, and more diantha the person)

Malva - i think she is somewhat fucked up in several ways and repressed in several ways and if she took the time to do some self searching she'd discover something about herself. or maybe she's aware and just doesn't think about it

i dont play swsh but i like marnie/gloria. scottish/welsh solidarity

I think this little speech to Toshiro and Namari represents Kabru's backstory that has been "formed [...] into a nice little shape", like he advises Mithrun. This is a story crystallised to avoid revealing personal details and to properly convey his sincere motives and the dangers of dungeons in an easy-to-understand way.

And good for him! I just like seeing example of Kabru's powerful social skills in action. It's neat that we really see it in even the little things. Kui's really aware of how communication works, on, like, a nuts-and-bolts level, and that comes through in how we aren't just told that characters are socially adept or socially awkward. We see examples of Laois rubbing people the wrong way that don't just amount to "infodump about monsters" and we see Kabru be socially deft in ways that aren't just "compliment people" or "lie".

once again i came up with an entire backstory for this au, and if i were a fanfiction writer i would genuinely consider writing it since it's a lot less visually comedic than the weredoc au (and comedic in general, it's played a little straighter than "man turns into dog and is thoroughly inconvenienced by it") (unfortunate [in reference to visuals] bc i enjoy drawing mermarty a great deal more than weredoc GBJKGJ) bc i really like the premise but i'm pretty bad at fleshing out a narrative in enough detail to last the whole story so bullet points it is:

doc has decided to take a break from his time-travel-related research and go on vacation! the fresh coastal air might jostle a couple ideas into place, and while he is a nuclear physicist and not a marine biologist he wouldn't mind checking out some of the local aquatic life

and by local aquatic life he meant like normal fish and stuff. a nice mollusk or two even. so when he ends up fishing an entire boy out of the water instead he's understandably very shocked

before doc can move past the "where did he come from??" thought to register his more fish-like qualities, the boy makes a run (a swim?) for it. fortunately or unfortunately for doc, he ends up being able to register the fish-like qualities after all since he gets dragged into the water along with him. the moment doesn't last too long, though, and the fish-boy is gone as soon as doc realizes the guy has a fish tail instead of legs

doc gets back on the dock (haha), thinks about the whole ordeal for a bit, and decides that the best course of action is just to assume he hallucinated the whole thing in a fit of heatstroke or something like that. he's here to relax and get his thoughts in order so he can continue working on his time machine! there's no time to investigate fairy-tale creatures or whatever supposedly living off the coast of california!

it's not shown in the comic but i imagine doc has a little portable radio next to him as he was fishing, so some time passes before he catches a glimpse of something shining in the water underneath the dock

he looks through the cracks in the dock and lo and behold, it's the same boy from earlier! doc greets him, and the boy immediately disappears under the water. doc thinks he's scared him off until a few minutes later where he pokes his head out and says hi back

they get to chatting and doc learns a couple things:

1. his name is marty!

2. he was trying to get doc to realize that he forgot to put bait on his hook but got his hand caught on it, and was trying to get his hand unstuck from the hook without ripping it open before doc ever had the chance to see him, which he obviously failed at

3. both the being seen and ripping his hand open, because in his haste to get away after being seen by doc he ended up doing that anyways. so there's like a lot of blood coming out of his hand now? but like don't worry about it. it'll be fine. he thinks.

4. he really likes whatever it is that's playing on the radio

doc insists on patching up his hand and initially marty refuses but lets him do it eventually, and marty tells doc that for a land dweller he's actually surprisingly nice. doc says nah anyone would want to help out someone hurt, especially if they're the one's who caused it. and marty's kind of confused by that because his family's always warned him of how dangerous humans are, which he kind of never thought too hard about until now where his time off this particular coast has really proven them correct, because he's encountered a bunch of humans over the past couple weeks and they've all tried to kill him or catch him. doc's the only one who's actually bothered to say hi!

after learning that particular not-at-all-concerning tidbit, doc asks him to elaborate because there's a lot to unpack over there, but someone else walks onto the dock before marty can get a word in and he takes off

marty does not return, even once the other guy leaves, and when doc packs it up to return to the place he rented out for the vacation he overhears a conversation among a group of men about spotting something weird in the water earlier and that it kind of looked like a mermaid? and that if any of them manage to catch it they'll all be rich as thieves. and another guy in the convo goes no you're thinking of rich as kings, you're mixing it up with a different analogy. and the first guy goes no i'm not i said what i said

so now this vacation is doing anything but clearing doc's mind. he's really worried about that little fish guy

there's a couple more ideas i had but halfway through writing out this bullet list i've realized that if i were to actually write this as a fanfiction, i'd probably want to keep those a surprise. so what i just wrote out is kind of the equivalent of one chapter

edit after thinking about it a bit more: since most humans have been trying to kill him, marty really has no incentive to let a guy know that he's wasting his time fishing with a baitless hook. so a. he's still pretty optimistic that most humans aren't out to get him, even if his experience off this particular coast says otherwise, so he was trying to be nice anyway or b. (which i think is a lot funnier) he has started to pull on people's lines as a way to fuck with them. i think if i wrote this i'd change it to this one

i based mermarty off of a guppy fish! specifically this kind of guppy fish:

i was searching up kinds of fish and he just had the vibe of this thing. although now i think i should've made him a flying fish instead. for the pun

alternate ending to the mini comic:

the other one makes a little more sense since just approaching a guy whose species doesn't know about your existence unprompted is pretty stupid even for marty (and also i thought it was funny that the hook didn't have anything but doc ends up catching something anyways) but i still think this one's funny too

When you get home from your boring office job, your boyfriend is in his "studio." Leon's studio is actually the guest bedroom of your apartment, but you rarely have people over anyway. He's got a huge 24" by 36" canvas set up on his easel, turned to be landscape style.

"Hey, baby," you say, tip-toeing carefully through the studio. You don't want to knock anything over.

"Hi!!" He takes the paintbrush out of his mouth.

"Ah- no hugs! You're covered in oil paint, Leon," you yelp.

"Sorry, baby." Leon gives you that sad puppy-dog look of his. Then, a pout decorates his face. You sigh, then get on your toes to kiss his cheek - while carefully avoiding paint.

"What are you painting?" you ask, gesturing to the canvas.

"I'm recreating the Sleeping Venus by Giorgione and Titian," he explains. "But I'm trying to make it look more realistic. More like you, too."

"That your way of saying you're painting me?" you tease, fluffing his hair.

"...no," he lies. He rubs the back of his neck - a nervous habit he developed in high school.

"Why don't you take a break?" you offer.

"I can't!" he exclaims, pointing an accusing paintbrush at the empty face of the painting. "I can't get your face right!"

"Is there something I can do to help?" you ask, pressing another cautious kiss to his cheek.

You can almost see the light bulb appear over Leon's head. He takes off his apron and hangs it up on a nearby Command hook. Then, he gently guides you out of his studio. "I think I might have an idea or two."

Tag Along AU pt 1

yes i’m finally doing something with this idea mwahahah!!! this is a bang together au where guy diamond joins in on the adventure and this is how it begins!!!

Katniss actually said that if not for the existence of the Games and Panem's shitty state in general, that she, at 17 years old, could possibly be married and pregnant. Full-on teen mothering it with her dandelion in the spring if Panem could chill out for a sec and stop killing children. And then she proceeded to fantasize about Peeta and his child safe in the meadow. This thought alone gave her one of three nights of restful sleep without drugs post-Games during the series (the other two being when she was in Peeta's arms).

And yet when the Games did end permanently and Katniss indeed went ahead and married/committed to Peeta and had a family with him at about 30 years old, some people still did a surprise Pikachu face and complained it was out of character.

yingdu episode 5 spoilers

ohhh my god this is everything I want from cheng xiaoshi. yes. perfect. sorry, but I'm a cheng xiaoshi whump liker and link click always brings out the best of them in episode 5 of each season.

there's just something cathartic about how when cheng xiaoshi becomes an emotional mess, it's also when he's most disconnected with the people he knows (physically, as he's diving in a photo and his only link to his home timeframe is a disembodied lu guang in his head) but it's also when he's most connected with strangers (when their own personal trauma lines up with his). to me, it's a showcase of empathy and a strange manifestation of his own agency. something about how the disconnect gives him the space to blow up, and the connection heightens it and grants him permission, almost, to express his anger more freely for his own sake and for another person's behalf.

like. listen, okay, I'm gonna ramble now because cheng xiaoshi is my favorite character in this entire show, but listen. sometimes some fans will conflate adjectives to his character that are usually associated with his character archetype, but they aren't necessarily true about him as a character. and I don't mean it in a, "he's not like that because he grows out of those traits" kind of way. I mean it in a, "he was never like that" kind of way.

one of those adjectives, for me, is when people call him immature. he isn't! to me! imo! he's got big emotions, yes, but I personally don't think the presence of big emotions indicates anything about maturity. because you know what? as long as his primary trauma (feelings of abandonment) isn't touched, he is very good at handling interpersonal conflicts, and that's what's interesting to me.

qiao ling hides relevant information from him? he removes himself from the situation to give himself space and sort out his feelings. he tells her he's fine and that he'll be back.

post-earthquake arc? I'll just copy paste what I already said in a previous ask:

what initially got me was when I was first watching S1, I thought the earthquake arc would have devastating effects on [shiguang's] relationship. listen, I didn’t know what I was getting into with link click, but I thought that was expected. it’s ripe for drama! but how do they handle the fight? they put their side business on hold but they still keep being roommates. they still do their day job. they still talk. they’re still upset but they give each other space but not to the point where they can’t stand existing in each other’s spaces. that’s when I realized that oh, they really trust each other. they have a very solid foundation for their relationship that not even the earthquake arc can break. they’re pretty level-headed about this, actually, all things considered? all the doomed yaoi stuff came later, but that’s just the cherry on top. it’s the way they handled conflict and disappointment in S1 that got me.

okay, protect-namine, why go through that whole tangent? BECAUSE! circling back to yingdu episode 5, we finally, finally get to see cheng xiaoshi let out some of his anger. and it's precisely because his primary trauma point was on the table. he can forgive a friend lying, and he can forgive being told not to change the past. because at the end of the day, qiao ling and lu guang stayed. they never left him.

but he cannot handle abandonment. he cannot understand why people leave. he cannot understand why he's been clinging on to false hope this entire time. and more importantly, he cannot understand how someone can be such a hypocrite about it. "a man who'd rather be kind to strangers than face his own son" like fuck man. cheng weimin you fucked up so bad.

it's the disconnect/connect thing again too. thematically, it makes sense. when does cheng xiaoshi blow up? when he's alone, far away from the people that ground him. alone, the feeling he hates the most. he's not even in his own body. he blows up when he's inhabiting a stranger's. he doesn't even get to be angry as cheng xiaoshi.

how fucked up is that. man. I love him so much.

also I'm going crazyyyy over the family themes going on in link click. much to say about the show itself across all seasons (the twins, qiao ling and cheng xiaoshi, even the liu siblings), but for this episode... god. okay this is slight speculation territory now and I'll try to keep this very short, because this is only tangential to the post. but. imagine xia fei getting the good parent figure in cheng weimin that cheng xiaoshi never had. and he doesn't know!! he's bitter inside about his dad and he's having hotpot with xia fei and he doesn't know he was in that school!! fuck that's so good. that's so juicy.

okay, sorry, I have a lot of feelings about cheng xiaoshi. he's my link click blorbo of all time, and I love when he experiences The Horrors™ because it's also when other sides of him gets to shine.

on a brighter note:

VEIN AND CHENG XIAOSHI MEETING AGAIN!!! their greeting was so cute. also omg does xia fei know? that his boss is maybe possibly a cannibal? actually, wait, I don't think I'd be surprised if he does know.

ah and finally. finally:

I've been having many thoughts on how yingdu approaches "friendships" and their transactional nature (mostly with regards to liu xiao) but I mostly thought they're headcanon stuff. but now. I'm so so happy that episode 5 is bringing out more of the quid pro quo theme. liu xiao with the gift giving. wang qing's "friends" (bullies) demanding her to cheat on the exam for them. and now, vein and cheng xiaoshi having a friendly greeting but also exchanging favors. so good. so good. it goes along with how there's so much handshakes and handholding this season (not just with lu guang and cheng xiaoshi, but with cheng xiaoshi and the the antagonist trio too, who have all met him by "helping" him in some way). something something trust and favors. probably something that deserves its own post though, but I wanted to point this out because I am soooo here for that. it's goes hand in hand (ha!) with the whole fraud/lies vs innocence/honesty theme this season, and deals/contracts being an equalizer to the two. very good. very tasty.

edit: ooh they also point to this in the YE6 trailer too. nice, nice. if you knew someone's true colors, would you still be their friend?

man, I love episode 5. it just hits all the stuff I personally wanted to see. the only flaw is that we still haven't seen the older version of wang qing, but yeah I kinda expected that they'll hide her until episode 6. they're giving her the liu xiao treatment from season 2. sigh. really wish she'd keep showing up in S3, we need more female characters in this show 🙏

Reread the Genshin webtoon, and I think they mistranslated this part. As in, it should say "the statue is no longer here" or something similar...?

When I started playing Genshin and read through the Mondstadt lore, I remember the bit about the nobles breaking the statue caught me off-guard. As in, the comic said the opposite? So I assumed it was a change Hoyo forgot about, kinda like the 100 years since the cataclysm.

However!

Observing Mondstadt's skyline in the past, Barbatos' statue isn't seen, only the tower. This panel also shows the whole square, and you can very clearly see the tower is in the place the statue should be.

So it has to be a typo or a mistranslation instead!

On an unrelated note, I love how Venti's first thought was for the girl's safety and doesn't give a crap about the statue otherwise.
