Thanks for tagging me sweet @mega-aulover! I've been tagged for this one once or twice before ❤️ but never really got around to doing it I'm ashamed to admit cause either I didn't have anything finished enough or if I did, it was never on a Wednesday lol.

But here's a little something in the works for my (you guessed it!) hayffie fic Taste of Strawberries (what else? 😉). The beginning of the upcoming chapter 43, Between a rock and a hard place (part two) where Haymitch is loosing his shit, poor man, cause Effie's in the ER. “Her name’s Trinket. Euphemia ‘Effie’ Trinket. T-R-I-N-K-E-T.”

Haymitch stalked across the kitchen – back and forth, back and forth – with the cordless phone pressed into his ear. Cold sheets of rain tapped against the windows outside. Hard and relentless.

“Her friend drove her to the emergency room. Hours ago! No one’s gotten back to me!”

“I’m afraid this isn’t the ER”, the voice said. Boy sounded too young to buy his own beer, let alone work in a hospital. “You’ve reached the reception.”

“So what! Don’t you have a computer or something?” he barked. “And a brain cell or two? Just look her up!”

“It doesn’t work like that …”

“Give ‘em a ring then, how hard can it be?!” His anger was inking all over, probably not helping his case (like: at all) but he couldn’t help it. “Find out if she’s seen a doctor at least or if she’s still waiting. She's got a white and pink dress on. Checkered, like a picnic rug. Can’t miss her.”

“... You’re not the husband …”

“I’m as good as. I mean …”, he added when he realized what he let slip.

He rubbed a tired hand across his forehead, shoulders sagging. Effie’s silk hair ribbon that he still clutched between his fingers brushed against his clammy skin.

“She’s my children’s mother, OK. I wanted to go with her but she told me to stay put. Look after them, while she … Please, I need to know if she’s OK.”

Aaw, thanks anon! I’m so glad you’re excited! The first draft of chapter 41 grew well past the 5K mark so I decided to turn the first few pages into their own chapter to have something to show for February. The aim’s to publish one ToS chapter every month of 2024 so …🤞

I’m having a lazy Saturday evening here in Sweden, just folding laundry and drinking a soda. The last of the snow has finally melted. ❄️ I hope you are well too, wherever you are in the world. ☺️
