What’s up with mobile games in this timeline? Like they’re all just advertising vessels, micro transactions, actively predatory addiction forming tactics, and misleading or straight up false advertising.

Like what happened? I remember when I was like in my tweens and actually had games that I enjoyed playing without ads every time you clicked something.

And like those games who’s ads are just not the same gameplay as the actual app, why not at the bear minimum make the game they advertized? I can’t think of any mobile games in the past few years that I have downloaded and kept for longer than a week cause they were a literally hostile environment and I could feel my braincells atrophying by the second.

random, but curious

anyone else out there only have a landline and ditch their (smart)cell phones? i’m seriously considering it tbh and then just getting a tablet for the learning apps and reading instead. i just dont care for the distraction/feeling so obligated to even the few people i talk to through text. i email/(vid)chat with most friends already through internet means, but some still make me feel a bit anxious about not answering and i just dont think i can ever explain to them the level of needing and wanting to be away from my phone. like, i am a late diagnosed nerodivergent trying to get myself ready to go back to work and then school ASAP so any advice on this would be great.

i do the time limit thing but the guilt about not responding takes my attention in cycles. like im ok with it for a bit then i find myself drift more and more and then feeling terrible which makes the procrastination set in cause idk i feel like a bad person

With enough willpower, could you use TikTok as a more curated platform like 2010s YouTube? Maybe. You can also use a car as a horse-drawn carriage if you saddle up to its tow hooks. You can use a screwdriver as a chisel. You could post homilies on a pornography-sharing website. Some of these examples are more reasonable than others, so personal judgement is important, but the question remains: are you doing something genuinely wise, or are you trying to justify flirting with sin? Would you be better off another way? Isn’t the development of your soul worth a little bit of missing out on the latest things?
