Digital twin technology boosts artificial pancreas performance for better type 1 diabetes control

A new University of Virginia study shows that digital twin technology can improve diabetes control in people with type 1 diabetes by enhancing the performance of an artificial pancreas system.

This adaptive system, called adaptive biobehavioral control, creates a virtual model—or “digital twin”—of each user to simulate how their body responds to changes in blood sugar management. Users can test insulin delivery settings safely in this simulation before applying them in real life.

In a six-month trial, the technology increased participants' time in a healthy blood sugar range from 72% to 77% and slightly reduced average blood sugar levels. The system adjusts every two weeks and supports better glucose control during the day, when blood sugar tends to fluctuate more due to food and activity. The approach emphasizes human-machine co-adaptation, helping users and the device learn from each other to improve diabetes management.

Here’s the latest evidence — 10 more reasons for modest optimism. 1. Trump’s approval ratings continue to plummet. The chief reason Trump was elected was to reduce the high costs of living — especially food, housing, health care, and gas. A new Pew poll shows these costs remain uppermost in Americans’ minds. Sixty-three percent identify inflation as an overriding problem, and 67 percent say the same about the affordability of health care. That same poll shows the public turning on Trump. The percent of those disapproving of Trump’s handling of the economy has risen to 53 percent (versus 45 percent who approve). Disapproval of his actions as president has risen to the same 53 percent versus 45 percent approval, which shows how essential economic performance is to the public’s assessment of presidents these days. The Pew poll also shows 57 percent of the public believes that Trump “has exceeded his presidential authority.” By making the world’s richest person his hatchet man, Trump has made more vivid the role of money in politics. Hence, a record-high 72 percent now say a major problem is “the role of money in politics.” Other polls show similar results. In the Post-Ipsos poll, significantly more Americans strongly disapprove of Trump (39 percent) than strongly approve of him (27 percent). also, because i keep seeing misinfo on my dash, this is not a Windows problem, it's a Crowdstrike problem. If you just have a windows machine it's not gonna get bricked, it only affects those who have the crowdstrike program installed, which, to my understanding, is geared towards workplaces, not common users.

i'm also gonna nitpick all the comparison to y2k going around, because y2k was a general and predictable problem about the way dates were stored in programs, and fixes could be discussed and developed years before it was meant to happen. This is one single company pushing a bad update and immediately bricking everyone, plus both them and the companies having no decent strategy to restart the systems or activate alternate systems during such an error.
