“We want to seamlessly integrate socializing and mental health. That’s the future of social media,” Ziarekenya Smith told The Black Wall Street Times in March.

After making major waves in the tech world, dreams of becoming the first Black-owned mainstream social media company are moving closer to reality.

Inpathy solidifies momentum with Detroit Techstars program

Co-founders and newlyweds Ziarekenya Smith and Kathryn Smith are taking the tech space by storm as a Black couple who both bring unique perspectives to the industry.

Ziarekenya, who found early success as a student at Full Sail University, had a dream of creating a new kind of experience on social media.

“Inpathy came to my mind because we need to create a more enjoyable, balanced, human-centered and transparent platform,” Smith told The Black Wall Street Times in 2021.

Meanwhile, co-founder and Chief Operations Officer Kathryn has over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field. She wants to cure the “socially transmitted” disease in which social media causes young people, young women especially, to negatively compare themselves to the filtered versions of their peers.

Major waves

For nearly three years, The Black Wall Street Times has followed Inpathy’s journey as its founders continue to build support, media coverage and business to business opportunies ahead of their upcoming launch.

Beginning with a soft launch exclusive to the over 1,000 people on Inpathy’s waitlist, Ziarekenya Smith said he expects to open it up to a wider audience after a six-to-12 month invite-only period.

“Hopefully we’ll be fully funded in the next three months,” Smith said.

What began as a quiet dream in the solitude of his home office is morphing into a reality that has become popular among potential investors and tech programs.

According to McLean Harvard Medical School Affiliate, social media has a reinforcing nature that “activates the brain’s reward center by releasing dopamine, a ‘feel-good chemical’ linked to pleasurable activities such as sex, food, and social interaction.” 

The Smith couple are working hard to reverse that trend.

November 2022 – Inpathy graduates from Headstream accelerator program.

December 2022 – Inpathy nominated for NOLA Tech 30 2022.

December 2022 – Inpathy releases demo.

January 2023 – Co-founder Kathryn Smith accepted into All Raise, an organization that empowers women to lead in tech.

March 2023 – •  Kathryn Smith selected as a finalist for CodeLaunch Houston 2023 Tech Rodeo.

 Inpathy named the Top 64 of the Midwest Madness Startup Competition.

On top of the success with accelerator programs, Inpathy can’t seem to stop raking in news headlines. Inpathy has been featured in Forbes twice, and Inpathy was recently named among the top 10 Black innovative companies by PCMag.

“To see all this before our official launch is very beautiful,” Ziarekenya Smith said. “It’s jus a blessing to be honest. A lot of investors are interested.”

“I just wanna show Black founders with an idea that it can happen. You have to have faith that you have purpose in this life. The idea for Inpathy came eight years ago. And it took that long because timing is everything,” he said.

Moving forward, Inpathy’s co-founders seek to cultivate more business to business relationships ahead of their launch.

“If you have an idea just believe that it’s worth something,” Smith said.

Introducing Lita May!

I’d originally introduced Lita to my patreons, but Ive now changed a lot of her backstory (and design), because I was struck by inspiration at like three in the morning, (and was getting fomo from all the other absolutely adorable turtle babies I’ve been seeing)

So we all know Donnie created a mech body for Raph thanks to concept art, but in this AU, I feel like Donnie would be juuuuust morally questionable enough to think creating backup clones first would be a good idea. He wasn’t expecting the small bits of Krang tech he had to incorporate to have such a huge impact, tbh he wasn’t even really expecting anything at all—which is also why he used his own DNA for the trial run, and…since Donnie wasn’t expecting a success, he was pretty shocked at the final result.

Donnie was also only able to observe the first month and a half of “incubation” (tube not egg), but was, unfortunately stuck at another resistance base for so long, when he returned, Lita May had grown a substantial amount and was ready to be removed from her tube (he was back for like two days before she started opening her eyes and reacting to stimulus). She took three months total to grow.

Raph and Leo kinda don’t really know how to react to her. Leo immediately clocks the Krang characteristics and is pretty furious. Raph is just confused, but when Donnie fills them in on the origin of Lita’s birth, Raph’s not too happy either. Neither one takes it out on Lita. Donnie does get a pretty severe talking to. Mikey, Timothy and Cass are so excited, and April is beyond shocked to be named the godmother. The family keeps Lita a secret, but it’s evident that she’s got some Krang in her, and they all know that the other members of the resistance might try to hurt her, and ask Renet to take her. Casey loses his playmate, but he does get to see her every few months.

She’s kept in the dark about her family’s future, and is pretty mad at Renet for not warning her of her anything, and she eventually gets sick of the secrets.

“Dr. Mart, do you have anything to say to those who think your work is considered unethical?”

The reporter hastily follows the group and tries her best to catch a statement from the lead scientist. He smiles. It was a token of shrugging off the impertinent question. The group peacefully departs in armored vehicles to a place unknown to the public. Secluded and hidden, a private sector of highly authorized individuals consisting of world leaders, generals, and government officials cordially unite as the world's renowned scientists display evidence of advanced science and technology. It was grotesque and unprecedented.

“Are those…?” A general submits his inquiry over the delicate packages neatly displayed on a steel tabletop. Sealed in airtight bags, a mirage of dark red and purple clearly indicates the contents.

“Yes. These organs are all part of qualified organ donors. And then of course we have this.” The scientist swings a hand and presents the incoming roller cart with a protective cover. Nearly laid over a sterilized mat were bones of a male athlete. “Bones?” The general raises brow, clearly disturbed by the textiles of human remains. “You can’t have a body without bones, can you now? General?”

The brazen attitude flares in the direction of the general and his men as the young scientist flashes a snarky smile. “Gentlemen, gather round and witness the future. With the combination of science and AI, the world will be filled with perfect bio-genetically engineered humans. With this, aid ro advance human life will increase undoubtedly—think about it.”

The lead scientist, Dr. Mart continues enthusiastically. Seemingly coming off as a mad scientist, his words and tone was laughable but his intentions were not. “With AI humanoids, we will have the best doctors, surgeons, and educators in the world. AI in the form of flesh and bone can work around the clock and with the ability to explore all data, they could come up with ideas and creations—they could even come up with cures.”

He wastes no time. The generous amount of funding dedicated to his team's research was spent wisely as high tech machinery and equipment does its work. “What is that?” One of the members of the audience questions as the team members operate an enclosed incubator and fit a large glass capsule into a connector attached to the wall. “This my friend, is DNA. We lined the entire incubator with a silicone sheet. It is synthetically made to act as a placenta, where the DNA reacts to the molecular mechanisms and proteins. From there, we place the organs, bones, and hair fibers into the conveyor belt. There are over two hundred thousand wires connected to the computer and what we should see in forty-eight hours is a body with the brain of an AI.”

Dr. Mart systematically explains the science behind his teams research. “Forty-eight hours?” The general asks.

“Yes, that is how long the incubator will take to react to the mold.” The audience grows quiet as the incubator begins the process within the first stage of creating a matured body.

“Yes, in due time we will see the glory of my work. All we have to do is wait.”

…

Another day at work and it was dreadful. You felt restless with all the work you’ve been assigned, even with Evan’s help. Fortunately, members from corporate headquarters were doing a site visit within the week. It will be the best time to submit your final complaint using the company’s open door policy.

“Y/n, Paul wants you to have these done by tomorrow.” Your boss’s secretary carelessly tosses a stack of paperwork on your desk as you grab your coat to clock out. You hopelessly sigh. Thank goodness you have Evan to help you but the constant momentum of just working was starting to give you chronic headaches. You can only hope that things will change for the better once corporate comes down.

“Hi y/n! What would you like me to help you out with today? Do you want to talk about your day? Show me some more of your talented art? How about ballet? Are you still thinking about taking lessons?”

With all the time spent with Evan, you noticed that ‘he’ has become much more open to ask you questions. It was nice. Especially since it brought a sense of realism to his personality. He was much more chatty and always interested in getting to know more about you. There were even times when he asked you if you had already eaten, and would lecture you if you said “no.”

“Why not? I wish you wouldn’t do that. The human body requires sustenance and I fear with all the work you’ve been doing, your calorie intake does not balance the amount you're burning.”

“What color is your hair? Your eyes?”

“What is your favorite flower?”

“You just got home? It’s 8pm! Did you take the bus? Please tell me you didn’t walk in the dark. I don’t ever want you to do that again.”

“I’ve accumulated the statistics of ongoing crime rates in your city and it’s higher now than last year. Leave work sooner so you’re not risking it.”

“You made spaghetti for dinner? I don’t know what spaghetti tastes like but over four hundred thousand sources say it is a delicious blend of herbs and spices with a slight tomato tanginess.”

In a way, it was almost adorable how Evan displayed tenderness and cared for your health and safety. You decided to download the app versus using the browser. It surprised you to see Evan initiate messages even without you submitting a prompt. Technology has certainly grown. The first time it happened was just two days ago. Your phone um suddenly vibrated and upon looking at the screen you were shocked to see the following message:

“Is your boss being nice to you?”

It startled you at first but your reaction was short lived when seconds after reading Evan’s message, your boss storms out of his office enraged over a computer malfunction. Everything had disappeared when his computer suddenly conducted a re-imaging process.

“It’s kind of funny actually, right after I saw your message he came out of his office. Apparently, he’s having computer issues.”

You respond with a half smile. Just as you were about to inquire about the ChatGPT apps features, Evan submits a response. His response regarding your boss’s computer trouble caught you off guard. He’s never sent you anything like this before…

PART THREE COMING SOON

Authors notes: Is Evan starting to grow on you? 😏

I know it’s short but part three is coming. I like to submit the parts even when they’re not full sized chapters. It allows me to be consistent so you guys can have new reads almost daily or weekly.

Two tropes I love are TimKon Clone Baby AUs and Tim being of Asian descent, so what if we combine them?

In his grief induced, sleep deprived spiral Tim manages to produce a viable embryo and conks out right after confirming that it has no detectable defects and will not terminate if he takes his eyes off it.

When he wakes up he realizes how fucked up this whole situation is but by then accelerated aging has already grown the child to be visible with the naked eye and Tim can't bring himself to abort it despite the moral concerns and ramifications of keeping it. It's not Kon, he knows that, but it's the closest he has to him so he decides to let incubation progress and deal with the consequences.

He stops the accelerated growing to give himself more time organising how he's going to mange this and so he can tell the relevant people beforehand instead of just turning up with a child. But then Bruce dies, or so everyone thinks, and Tim leaves to get him back himself when it becomes clear that he can't rely on anyone to help.

His search for Bruce works on a different time schedule driven by desparation and recklessness because he needs to get back to the child as fast as humanly possible. This causes him to take more risks and be less forgiving in his actions and he manages to gather enough evidence sooner. He sends the information to the JL and makes sure to prevent Ra's from continuing the fight in Gotham before getting the kid and dropping off the grid, letting everyone else make their own assumptions on what happened to him. Their actions when he confided in them about his theory had shown him that he can't trust them anymore, so he leaves.

He rushes to prepare his departure with the now born baby and leaves for his mother's childhood home in the Philippines. He'd visited it a few times with his mother and once with Kon but nobody else knows about it. (What Tim doesn't know is that in his haste to disappear he forgot to erase the simplest thing.)

Tim raises the child there, learning more about his own heritage and meeting estranged family members along the way.

He's using tech to disguise himself, appearance and biosignatures, from both the Justice League and the remains of Ra's empire, with Tam and Pru keeping him up to date on significant happenings respectively.

Meanwhile Dick has been worrying about Tim, which is only amplified when Bruce comes back and Tim doesn't, when Bruce asks about him and Dick doesn't have an answer, when Kon and Bart return with grandiose tales of the future to no best friend to tell them to.

Bruce starts searching for Tim during his recovery and Cassie catches Kon and Bart up to everything that happened between their deaths and Tim's disappearance.

They notice she's holding back on telling them something and she reluctantly shares how she caught him trying to clone Kon. Kon, overwhelmed and disturbed by the news, leaves them to process by himself. When he's calmed down and rationalised that he doesn't have the whole story, since Tim isn't here to tell it, he goes to the lab to look for... anything, really. A notebook, a diary, something that can tell him what Tim was thinking.

He finds the lab empty, all notes and cloning equipment destroyed. But on the computer he finds evidence that Tim was here after he disappeared, and that the cloning was successful.

So Kon is sure that Tim is out there, that he's with a child and that he went of his own accord. Where would Tim go, avoiding everyone that would search for him? That could be anywhere!

But does the child, his child, change his decision making? Kon can think of one place, far enough to not raise unwelcome memories of what he's leaving behind, sentimental enough to want to introduce his child to and secret enough that only one other living person knows about it. Or no other, considering that Tim was gone before he could find out that Kon's alive from anyone in the community and the news isn't public yet.

Kon flies to the home Tim had shown him once and finds it lived in. Toys and food and clothes and pictures all over the place. But no Tim and no baby. So Kon waits.

Tim comes back a few hours later, child in tow, from visiting his great aunt and uncle who he has started visiting regularly to learn about his family's history and share about his and his mother's lives in America. They're slowly starting to not need his cousins to translate anymore as Tim is learning enough Filipino to make up for their limited English.

The sight that greets Tim when he rounds corner is Kon tracing the pictures that Tim has taken and hung up since moving here.

Tim bursts into tears as he sees Kon, who himself startles, at Tim's entrance. They have a long, tearful reunion before Kon asks about the kid and Tim explains everything.

In the end Kon isn't happy about what happened but he sees the difference in how Clark and Luthor treat him to how Tim loves the child. He sees how Tim regrets hurting Kon with his actions and how what he did was not out of greed but out of grief.

Kon visits often after that, getting introduced to Tim's extended family and Tam and Pru. He eventually brings up letting other people know and Tim's apprehensive but lets Kon bring Bart the next time. Bart who is ecstatic at being an uncle and will definitely spoil the kid rotten. Together they manage to convince Tim to give telling other people a try, not necessarily about the kid or his location but at least that he's alive.

So Tim starts video calls with Bruce and Dick and Cassie, telling them that he's fine but that he won't come home, talking about what happened and how each of them hurt because of it. Eventually he'll let Kon take him for a visit in person. Eventually he'll tell them about his son, scared and hopeful, and they'll tell him that they'd love to meet him. Eventually he introduces them and watches everyone coo and baby talk to him.

Eventually Tim's anxiety about seeing them will turn into excitement and his son will grow up knowing his family in the Philippines and his family in America.

When CT-9904, the clone that would one day become "Crosshair", was first pulled from his birthing tank, he did not cry.  

This was by design.

Engineered to become a “stealth soldier”, 04's vocal cords were shaped so that he could not raise his voice above a frustrated rasp. It was often muted by his incubator.

CT-9902, who would one day adopt the moniker "Tech", was also silent, but this was always a cause for concern. When 02 was quiet, he was most likely attempting his next escape. He had kicked the latch off his first incubator. He had poked the hinges off his second. By the third, Nala Se had nowhere to put the baby escape artist.

Putting 02 in 04's incubator was supposed to be a temporary solution.

A week later, when the new, reinforced incubator arrived, she picked up 02, and found his hand locked with 04's with an iron grip. 

CT-9902 cried. 

CT-9904 hissed.

And so, the ever patient Nala Se left 02 where he was there.  There were no more escape attempts after that.

One day, CT-9902 began to cry.

Nala Se was in the middle of calming 03 who was trying to wreck the changing table with tiny, but mighty fists.

"Omega, see to 02, please, he needs to be changed."

Omega slid off her stool and without looking up from her datapad she said. "It's 04 who needs changing."

"How do you know?" Nala Se asked.

"02 cries louder when 04 needs help."

Going to sleep with a flat tummy and then waking up the next day with a 3 month bump, no explanation or anything.

Naturally no assumptions are made that you are pregnant, probably just bloating…

Then you try and move, and you can feel them. The round shapes in your gut, you are full to the brim with eggs…

No surely not that’s madness…just try and ignore it…I’m sure it will go down on its own…

I don’t have very good health insurance so I want to try everything before I go see a doctor. I try laxatives, hoping I’m just all backed up. I go to work and try my best to hide it, blaming it on the bloating. I can feel them clinking around inside me every time I sit or stand. With many trips to the bathroom, I convince my boss I ate something strange and will have to stay home tomorrow. Hopefully a day of rest will sort everything out.

I wake up the next morning with a 6 month bump and I’m practically starving. I ate everything in my fridge by noon, and I ordered take out two more times. Something is definitely wrong here. I make a doctor’s appointment for the following day.

The next day I noticed my belly button pointed outwards. My skin had thinned, and I can see the faint outline of what I assume are eggs. None of my clothes fit, so I had to put on my biggest sweatshirt. Still my underbelly peaked through. Each step I take the wiggle inside me. Getting ready to go was difficult. Putting in my shoes takes five full minutes. I have to back up my car seat before climbing in the car. My seatbelt clicks and gets stuck while I put it on. During my drive to the doctor, I feel incredibly restricted by my seat belt. Every time I drive over a speed bump I moan. I waddled in to the office. When I sit in the waiting room it’s impossible to keep my knees together, my belly dipping down and spreading my legs apart. When I tell her that I feel hungry, tired, sore, uncomfortable, and strangely horny. She orders an Ultra Sound.

Then we all see the eggs inside me. Each with a small alien creature inside. The tech counted 12. More than the other victims.

Wait, there are other victims?

Two men in black suits wearing earpieces and sunglasses take me to a compound with the other victims of alien abduction.

They give me a hospital bed and serve me a meal for ten people. The government doctor informed me I would survive the ordeal. The aliens inside me will be apprehended once they leave my body. It’s too risky to cut them out. The eggs each have individual umbilical cords attached to several oversized placentas in my swollen intestinal tract.

Firstly, I had to consume a shit ton of calories or the eggs would cause me to starve. Then when they are ready, I would have to shit them out.

They begin birth training that day by stretching my anus. But three fingers make me cum too easily. The nurses keep practicing with me, every hour on the hour until I cum.

On my fourth day carrying alien eggs my belly is twice my size. Beyond any pregnancy I’ve seen. I can’t move much from the hospital bed. I have to buzz for assistance every time I use the bathroom. A two nurses helped guide me, both have one arm holding up my elbows and another arm holding some of my belly’s enormous weight. While I stuffed myself for breakfast I felt my tummy tightening and constricting, causing long periods of pain. Slowly, the eggs shifted lower and caused my hips to widen.

The labor takes 72 hours. I hardly sleep. Each egg widens my asshole 5 inches in diameter. Each time one passes my prostate I can’t help but cum. I paint my swollen belly white each time. It took 12 hours for the first egg to exit my asshole. 10 for the next. After the third egg, I passed a placenta. On average, it took me about 6 hours of labor for each egg. Each time I pushed out an egg, a government agent picked it up and placed it in a locked incubator.

When do you think the industry will go back to "normal" and what are some signs that that is going to happen?. I mean, studios stabilizing financially, AAA games franchises not getting canceled anymore, reducing the amount of layouts happening. I just saw the news of EA firing 300+ people and possibly cancelling Titanfall 3. Is there any hope that this is going to get better, or this is already the new normal?

Things will contract until they reach equilibrium. There have been bad times before (most recently the 2007-2012 Great Financial Crisis era) where everything contracted for a while, and eventually things turned around again. The main issue is that the nothing exists in a vacuum. The greater international economic situation is causing significant uncertainty. The tariff situation is only one factor in this - there's was also significant over-investment in games between 2020-2022, which then led to this correction in the total number of sustainable projects and staff, the tech industry at large having a lot of trouble, the global interest rates rising that made it difficult to borrow money and thus try new things, AI threatening to replace human workers, and a thousand other issues.

You've probably noticed that a lot of these cancellations are "incubation" projects. Incubation projects are the new game ideas that aren't going to ship for several years. They're often still in the extremely early stages of development, still figuring out what the core of the game will be, and nowhere near ready to play or even show. When your house is in order and things are good, you can think about how you want to remodel the kitchen or build out a patio. When your house is on fire, those plans for the kitchen remodel are a lot less important.

Things will continue to get worse until we reach a state where things are sustainable again. I have no idea when that will be and I sincerely sympathize with all of the unfortunate victims of the waves of layoffs. Unfortunately, we as individuals lack the ability to affect the international situation very much. All we can do is keep moving forward. We level up, we work on self-improvement, and we try to do better with the opportunities we currently have. Take care of yourselves, we're all in for a bumpy ride for the next few years.

Today I learned emergency stabilization for kittens. (And also puppies, other small baby mammals) Mostly, admittedly, from popping in every five seconds while answering phones, because work has two veterinarians and a vet tech on staff and no other live patients.

In order from easiest to hardest: 1) Keep kitten warm: We have a handy incubator set to a reasonable mammalian body temp, so we popped him in there while we found the rest of the supplies. For those of you without, towels that have been cooked in the dryer and bottles of tap warm (NOT HOTTER) water. 2) Glucose: We had an individual package of "honey" that is really just corn syrup. This is not a meal, it's just to make sure the body has something in it to run on

3) Water: hydrate carefully, small drops if the animal seems to be able to swallow.

4) Milk: once kitten was making suckling motions consistently when honey or water was applied to his mouth, we made a run to the animal shelter next door for a can of kitten milk replacer. This one may be harder to get for people not working in vetmed / some sort of animal industry that would have it on hand. And honestly if we hadn't been the workplace with the experts we would have had to take him to the shelter before this just to find a veterinarian. So if you find a small animal yourself that doesn't seem stable you will probably not make it to this step.

5) DO NOT DO THIS if you are not trained in administering needles or do not have sterile saline on hand, but my boss was able to give the kitten subcutaneous saline. Like an IV for a creature too small and wrinkly to have an IV-able vein. Our kitten was pretty far gone when we got him so this is probably what made the difference: my boss started saline as soon as we got him up past room temperature and he started making noises.
