Reading further (or rather earlier), the report mentions that they wanted people to use Alexa for buying products on Amazon. Later, they mentioned upgrading Alexa with "skills." With them, you could tell Alexa to order pizza or call an Uber, in which Amazon would get a kick back for those services.

Overall, it seems that people were just not interested in ordering things through a voice service. Especially when you couldn't see the product or read reviews. Not mentioned in the article, but from personal and second hand experience, Alexa, and really all voice assistants, are imprecise. You aren't guaranteed that these services will hear you correctly. We've all heard stories of these assistants improperly waking up to an incorrect phrase or sound. I'm sure that influenced user's desire to have a more hands-on approach to ordering things.

MelMel's Saturday

So I went to turn on BG3 this afternoon to play more of my Karlach Origin run (I'm having a blast, she's awesome. Pics of her romances so far, I'm using the poly mod so everyone will love her eventually.)

But I digress. I have two monitors - the larger one I have the game in, and the slightly smaller one for writing/etc. (I don't know why, but it feels weird when I use a different monitor for those things.) My gaming monitor didn't turn on today. I freaked out, checked all the plugs (into the monitor and the computer itself), played with the power button to no avail, and finally accepted that my monitor must have died sometime in the night.

I turn on BG3 anyway. No sound. The computer isn't recognising my soundbar AT ALL. I spend about a half hour looking up the soundbar's manual, troubleshooting it, and finaly got it to work through bluetooth.

Then, after about two hours of gaming, it started to get dark, so I turned on the lamp.

No light. Lamp isn't working. I briefly considered I'd been cursed by the Tech gods, but then realised the lamp is plugged into a power bar. And then I stood there for a good minute looking at it as I realised many other things are plugged into that power bar.

So my second monitor is fine, so is my soundbar. I'm just bad at troubleshooting basic stuff 😄

Anyway, how was your Saturday?

It's important to me that folks understand that it is deeply distressing to us as veterinary professionals to have to decline care due to pet owners' financial constraints. We're talking nightmares, panic attacks, break down sobbing in front of the entire ICU distressed.

We hate it, and we do everything we can to make it work for people and their pets. We are stuck in a broken system just like you are. Unfortunately, there is only so much that can be done for free before we stop being able to pay our staff, upkeep our machines, and purchase supplies.

Vets do not "only care about money," and if we did, we would be in a different field. We are not rich. I have 6 figures in debt from vet school and currently make less than I would working full time at McDonald's. Verbally abusing vet staff does not help anyone or anything, least of all your pet.
