Devlog 22

Another good week of game development.

Creating "pause" functionality was much harder than I thought it would be. Gamemaker Studio 2 has a helpful feature in its "Deactivate" functions, but those can only get you so far. That's what I spend most of my time this week working on.

There are two types of "pauses" in this game. The normal pause where you hit a button and bring up a menu. The other is a more temporary pause that the player can use to change which attack they're using. To work on that, I made two separate objects in Gamemaker to apply the different effects that I want. Sadly, they aren't quite finished yet, otherwise I'd love to show it off.

Here's what my menu code looks like if anyone is interested. Huge thanks to a Shaun Spalding tutorial I found online along with some other helpful posts. Just modified it so it would be tied to pressing and releasing a button rather than something that works like a switch.

Something I can show off is the finally-finished player UI. Above the health bar are the number of teleport charges the player has available, and inside the gold orb is the current attack that the player is using. (You'll see everything freeze in the video occasionally. That is me testing the pause functionality).

imagine you're getting married to kaiser and even though you're the bride, it's him that turns into an absolute bridezilla.

initially, you thought it'd just be a small event between you and him—just going down to city hall and be done with it—but when you had sleepily confessed to him one quiet night as he played with your fingers that maybe in another life, you'll get a traditional wedding, kaiser's determined to make sure you get what you want in this one.

and this guy kinda goes a bit bonkers. he's got everything planned in meticulous detail in this binder he carries around everywhere with all the information one could possibly need—vendor info, list of caterers, drafts of the schedule for d-day. at first, you think it's sweet, that he's going all the way for you and him. until he goes... a little too far.

he once grossly spat out his bite of a sample black forest cake right in front of the baker. "this is an insult to germany itself. never bake this again if you know what's best for you."

"i thought i asked for silk tablecloth with the chiffon runner?" he seethed at one caterer, grabbing the fabric and bunching it in his fist. "you thought you could fool me with this cheap-ass polyester?"

"i don't give a single shit if they're out of season," he cussed at one of the florists over the phone. "get me those tan hua flowers for my wedding or so god help me."

the list of caterers in his binder grows narrower and narrower—with some of their services slashed by kaiser due to "incompetence"(kaiser's words, not yours) or they flat-out refused to provide service to you due your fiance's temperament.

you tell him multiple times that this doesn't have to be a big event he has to stress over, that all you want is for you to tie the knot and to devote yourself to each other, but all kaiser does is kiss your forehead and tell you that he's got it covered.

"what kind of husband would i be if i didn't make my beloved's wishes come true, mein schatz?"

Starscream proceeds to go bich about his bros to Soundwave as he gets the reports from him instead lol (can't bich about Megs to sound smh)

Continued: Dissonance

Bit if background is that Megatron frags up Starscream's voicebox, making him sound real wack (bit like in TF1) (this post has the doodle for that), and this is right after that. He was rekt and blamed for a plan falling apart that wasn't souly his fault (typical lore lol), so he's already pissed off. Warp just thought he got banged up from said mission and the autobots, and very much doesn't know about how fragged Megs and Star's relationship is (just thinks star's only being dramatic). Thunder more suspects it was Megs and is concerned, but wants Star to talk about it (unsure of how to approach it)

Istg it'd be such a rant for me to go on about my flavor of these boiz. This has been a thing in my brain sm tho (if peeps wanna know some of said lore that's been rotating round here, you can send an ask- I have no idea how to bring it up otherwise lmao)

I present to you a stupid thought. For all of episode 1 we have been both shown and told that Edwin is NOT the people person in the Agency. However right away in episode 2 when they're summoned by The Cat King, Edwin steps forward and insists he do the speaking in order to handle this diplomatically. It feels strange because while Charles might not be subtle as Edwin says about Shelby later, he is better at talking to people and working with them generally.

My stupid headcanon is that Edwin heard the word "King" and knew his anti-monarchy bestie would be his absolute WORST SELF so he stepped in before Charles could get himself in trouble.
