Or: let's make wild, uninformed guesses about the troll Ancestors, based solely on the lives of their descendants!

As a bearer of the lowest blood on the hemospectrum, Aradia’s ancestor was probably as poor as she is. She may have been an archeologist like her descendant, assuming the field existed in her era, but I'm much more interested in her potential necromancy.

On the instruction of your ANCESTORS, you have recovered MYSTERIOUS TECHNOLOGY from the ruins, and convinced a friend to adapt it into a GAME THAT WILL BRING ABOUT THE DESTRUCTION OF YOUR CIVILIZATION.

See, due to her bloodline, Granny Megido is the most likely ancestor to be behind the Voices. She's the only one who can claim a direct relationship to Aradia, and I think she was probably still around in the modern era - as a ghost, of course - guiding her young protege, as she worked to trigger the apocalypse.

What's your story, Granny Meg? How did a lowblood medium discover the secrets of Sgrub, centuries before it arrived? How much did you know back then - and how much influence do you still have, even now?

If Alternia's past is anything like its present - and it certainly seems to be - then I can't see Tavros's ancestor surviving there for long. If he survived to adulthood, then it was probably as a peaceful nomad, or perhaps some sort of ranger.

Either way, I don't think he'd involve himself with other trolls, instead preferring to spend time with his planet's wildlife. Basically, I'm picturing Snow White with a mohawk.

Sollux’s ancestor is undoubtedly still a techhead. I know it's centuries in the past, but this is proto-Sollux we're talking about. He'd invent technology if he had to.

Actually, that might have been his role. He could have been one of Alternia's first engineers, leveraging his Sgrub foreknowledge to contribute to Alternia's technological advancement.

Congratulations, Sollux Senior - you helped turn a nation of pirates into a space empire.

Karkat's an interesting one. In a more primitive society - ie, one without Imperial Drones - it might have been easier for him to hide his blood color.

...actually, he might not even have Karkat's blood color. It's possible that Karkat's candy red mutation is unique to him, and the other Vantas has yellow-green blood, like his Trollian position implies he should. That would result in an ancestor with a very different social position to Karkat, and the two could be substantially different as a result.

Nepeta’s current lifestyle would translate perfectly to a primitive Alternia. Her ancestor could easily still live in a cave – and since shipping is probably her calling, too, I'm picturing her as an accomplished matchmaker.

Kanaya’s situation is rather unique. Jadebloods are rare, and inextricably linked to the Mother Grub, so her ancestor has some of the strongest ties to her counterpart.

We're actually aware of an ancient Mother Grub, who may have been alive in the time of the ancestors - which hints at a relationship between Kanaya's ancestor and the next troll on our list.

That would be Terezi's ancestor, whose symbol adorns the Doomsday Scale. This device was probably a collaboration between the Pyrope and Maryam ancestors. Its purpose is unknown, but the Gate symbol is proof that someone had Sgrub foreknowledge. Curious.

Anyway, aside from this side hustle, Pyrope was probably a legislacerator. I wonder if the Alternian legal system was as broken then as it is now?

Equius... well, I don't really know, actually. He certainly feels like the kind of guy who’d model himself off his ancestor, so he was probably a pro-hemospectrum horse enthusiast.

Gamzee’s ancestor could have gone one of two ways. If Sopor Slime existed back in early Alternia, he might have been as docile as his descendant used to be. If it didn’t, he was probably the exact kind of bloodthirsty monster that Gamzee is currently regressing into.

I know which option I'm putting my money on, and it's the one that would make Gamzee proud of his 'Subjugglator' ancestors. Can you guess which?

Eridan’s ancestor is the Orphaner, which makes me think he has a similar role as a slayer of lusi. My best guess is that he killed the custodians of adult trolls.

Feferi is an odd case, because her ancestor would probably be an extremely famous historical empress. Fuchsia blood is so rare that Feferi is literally the only modern troll who has it, so I wouldn't be surprised if her ancestor was revered in her time.

What did you do to Alternia, Pexies? Did you help make it what it is, or - like your descendant - did you try to make it better?

So I saw @striderl's post featuring a swap-ish AU and I was just thinking about some stuff involving the AU. I was like..."Hey, i wonder how my human would fair..." But making the human a techhead would kinda fly in the face of why they exist in the first place... So...

so. @rna-world / tarigon’s au “where iterators become hybrids of rw creatures that fit them and then are forced to survive in the wacky wild as organisms” idea is cool. very cool. cool enough for me to have reblogged nearly all of it 3 weeks back. and now its coming back to me… oh goodness gracious

so!! in this post! i’m going to scribble down my thoughts on these barely-shared ocs of mine, and how they’d be integrated into which animal and survive in what way. exciting! LETTUCE BEGIN:

these are the first few i came up with! was in a little funk so i wasn’t proud of them at the time, but thats changed ^_^

DeeDee isn’t related to the group at all—his design was just a brainwave i needed to get out. but the others! oh boy the others:

Weaving Currents is a ghostlike fusion with the very overseer that lends him his voice. this body enables soundless stealth and camouflage through translucent flesh. i wanted to emulate the deep sea vibe he has goin for him, which was especially built upon with his redesign! Currents is tricky and slinky, working as the perfect assistant and spy in Shadows’ search for power. and his peculiar quest for one specific little “traitorous” guy.

Six Colorful Strings (behold, our timid protagonist!) is a blue lizard. she is fragile and agile and always carries a weapon. whatever sort of process she underwent to become this was prepared with haste, and she’s still getting used to the new systems. and this rapid change and cell death has her rot spiking in activity. now, since a risk of spread is now prominent through coughing fits, she has attempted a makeshift mask out of an old cloth scrap. i honestly wanted to emulate some of tarigon’s AGS-orangeliz vibes through Strings here because. hello? peak??

Seven Even Windy Cycles always wanted to fly away. the wish arose from past circumstances, but remained as a whimsical dream. his can is placed in the run-down suburbs of abandoned architecture that crawl with bugs and bats after his weather modules go…missing? perhaps it was the bugs and the bats that he likes to watch. (insert segue) so he got squidcada-beamed because i said so. there was a running sorta-vulture mask idea that made it halfway, but he’s so underdeveloped as a fella that i need to straighten a few things up first.

Broken Gears over Grinding Gravel is definitely the techhead here. integrated so heavily into his work that anything he’s not good at he’s just accepted as failure. and that’s not a good mindset to have in the wild, but who cares! he’s in the highchair now. and the two things he’s good at are self preserval and working his mech. Gears is a tired old father who tries to forget regret—especially the involvement he had with Shadows’ greed. little beast grew out of control. what was he supposed to do??

Deeper Darker Shadows is the main antagonist and a persistent one at that! with his quest to rejuvenate his disordered systems with other iterators’ rarefaction cells, and having succeeded multiple times thus far, he’s earned the status of something to be feared. however he’s the brains of the operation, not the brawn. especially with a recent development lending him a maw-like wound in his face. giving him all the more reason to seek power to overcome the hurt. with the hushed judgmental fear all around his name, he’d have to appear as something imposing in the wild—right? LOUD INCORRECT BUZZER. this man is a stinky younger brother who’s too self entitled for his own good. but his looming presence is like a shadow (heh) despite the hidden truth. so he also gets bugbeamed. jackass! hope he isn’t too stupid and gets himself killed. a second time.

This paradox will happen when people start letting the Elons of the world put chips in their brains. When they upload your mind, they're creating a copy. A copy they control. It won't be you. It'll be simulacrum. You will still be trapped in the meat sack, probably tethered to the machine via your brain implants. And when you die, simula-you will go on to live a virtual life of slavery at the whims of whoever controls the machine you are programmed into.

... ...if the simula-you is conscious at all. Machines are still machines regardless of whatever kind of bullshit the techheads say about them.

That one individual should awaken in another memories that belong to still a third is an obvious paradox.

just for you, heres some fun little dad!husk morsels

husk and rosie were originally friends before rosie nd alastor became friends, and they were walking together in cannibal town on the day that vox fell. when they noticed the newly fallen sinner, husk decided to take him in originally as a means of promotion for his casino (not that he didnt already have techheads, but a full crt television? not many of those were walking around hell)

vox was kind of distrustful of husk at first, but one day, he malfunctioned while on the job and when he woke up, he found himself inside one of the casino's private rooms with a blanket draped over him and a glass of water on the table next to the couch. to vox, who had seen the kind of shit that other overlords do to their workers when they stop being useful, this was something that made him start to trust husk more

though a lot of people thought otherwise, husk never actually contracted vox for his soul. it had been a passing curiosity at first, he had only meant to pick up the naive sinner for fun and would have passed him off to someone else once he stopped being entertaining- but somewhere along the way, husk started to see the kid as something more than a mere form of entertainment

they used to bond at the bar after closing, where husk would teach vox how to play card games and bartend and such. to this very day the only person who can beat vox in card games is husk

husk gifted vox most of his early wardrobe. after husk lost his overlord status and vox rose to his own, he still wore all the clothes that husk gave him

against popular opinion, voxs suit isnt actually supposed to resemble alastor's- he actually referenced it from husk's overlord suit. whenever someone remarks on him looking like alastor (assuming they havent made up yet) he fries them and tells the press that actually, its modelled after a *far* better and more powerful overlord than the radio demon

after they meet again vox gifts husk several electronic devices where they can talk through

he sends husk a bunch of indecipherable memes and stupid quotes that the other vees say

husk has them saved and sometimes bursts out laughing in the middle of nowhere when he thinks about voxs memes

vox used to create a lot of inventions and floor plans for husks casino. not all of them went through the initial planning stages but husk put up all his drafts on the walls (like in the way a parent would put up their kids silly little scribbles up on the fridge)

vox and husk are very competitive when it comes to table games. the hazbin gang once had a game night where they played monopoly and husk and vox ended up yelling so loud at each other vox short circuited half of pentagram citys electricity and husk ended up dive bombing his kid (they had to explain to the others that it was just playfighting before angel and alastor started joining in on the attack)

husk has a secret sweet tooth. this is the reason why vox knows how to bake but not how to cook

back when vox was newly fallen he used to have nightmares. when husk and him got closer, husk used to cradle the other to sleep in his wings

vox used to call husk vati (affectionate nickname for father in german) and husk used to call him kotyonok (<- phonetic spelling of kitten in russian)

they do still do it sometimes but its less now bc everyone around them makes it awkward

also sometimes husk used to take vox flying when he got too "pent up" over work and such

nowadays, vox takes husk through data streams sometimes when al's being too hard on the bartender

also, just for fun because transfem!vox lives in my head:

husk is the first one she tells, assuming they both kept in contact even after he lost overlord status

his first reaction is to take her downtown for a shopping spree (she pays for everything and doesnt let him touch a single cent but she's just glad to go on a trip with him)

It was a comment made without trying to patronize or pretend there weren't people out there who only valued a pretty face. Compared to Shannon whose talent set her apart, yet made her take life in a server room away from others. Suina seemed like a genuine people person, even if from her face, there was some level of dislike of that.

"W-well, hopefully you get what I mean. I don't wanna sound like I know what I'm talking about when I can only guess from what you're saying." Also you know, bring down the mood. Not when this was supposed to be a new life for her. Wouldn't want to piss off the immediate friend she made.

"A-ah. Hobbies? Well, uh..." And here it comes, the part that really showed just how bland Shannon's life was before the incident. In a sense, still was. It was enough to make her rub the back of her head in thought.

"I, uh...never really got that much time out of work, so hobbies tended to come and go. Going on early morning walks. Seeing movies. Sometimes trying to paint models. That sort of thing. Problem is when an abrupt 'emergency' call comes in, I'm forced to put everything down and address it. Thus making things that matter to me...fall to the wayside."

"H-hopefully that's a good enough answer. What about you? Surely you do more than swim lessons, right?"

I was talking to my mom about how mad racists are at Annabeth being black, and how I think it fits her story even better (because there is very little in this world more Greek Tragedy than the goddess of Justice and Law having a dutiful, fervent worshipper of a child who is unjustly targeted by the government for simply existing (black, a girl, neurodivergent, motherless, and homeless, and that's just in the first season)), and my mom reminded me that, while being black certainly adds a layer of complexity and sadness to Annabeth's story, and is very important for all the little black autistic girls who aren't Chirpy Happy Techheads (Annabeth is angry and rude and Fucking Cool, fight me)...

...at the very root of "Annabeth's motivation is that no one takes her seriously" is just that she's a girl.

It doesn't matter her race, her ability, her family, whether or not she has parents and a home. She's a girl. That is the motivation. As long as Annabeth is female, it is perfectly true to her character.

We both also agreed that racists are evil and bad and anyone being mean to a child for being "the wrong color" isn't actually the target audience of the show and so they can get fucked :3
