The boy, in particular, had a distinctly foreign appearance, in spite of the gingham shirt and homespun trousers, which seemed to be the regulation, work-a-day outfit for the Lindsay farmer lads. He had a lithe, supple body, with sloping shoulders, and a lean, satiny brown throat above his open shirt collar. His head was covered with thick, silky, black curls, and the hand that hung down by the side of the wagon was unusually long and slender. His face was richly, though somewhat heavily featured, olive tinted, save for the cheeks, which had a dusky crimson bloom. His mouth was as red and beguiling as a girl’s, and his eyes were large, bold and black. All in all, he was a strikingly handsome fellow; but the expression of his face was sullen, and he somehow gave Eric the impression of a sinuous, feline creature basking in lazy grace, but ever ready for an unexpected spring.

I’m pretty sure that I remember Ian Flynn - the writer on the old Archie Mega Man comics, in case further context is needed - suggesting that if he were to ever write a bridge between the Classic and X series plots, he’d explain the non-presence of the Classic cast by having it that Rock, Roll, Blues, Bass, etc. went adventuring in space with Duo (and also said that he had a “clever idea” for how to solve the problem of Quint that he’s keeping under his hat just in case), which I think works nicely and sounds like a lovely way to end the Classic era.

IIRC he’s also suggested that he’d try tying that in with the infamous cliffhanger of Mega Man Legends 2. Which, I don’t know, seems like a needlessly dramatic way of resolving a cliffhanger that was not really treated seriously by the game itself and only retroactively became dramatic because it was never followed up on, but it’s also really funny to imagine:

Yuna: Oh. Well, you see, there’s been, you know...

What do you think Keefe’s exact ability is? And what are the exact differences between his ability, mesmerizing and beguiling?

I'm gonna answer this a little in reverse. The difference between Mesmerising and Beguiling is that Mesmers only control someone's physical actions, but the person stays fully conscious and aware of themself. Think Edaline telling Grady off as he controls her, and Brant arguing back while he burned off his hand. Beguiling, conversely, is a subtle influence only of people's emotions to prompt them to do things of their "own" will.

I think Keefe, based on what we've seen, is somewhere between these two. It sounds like he's directly commanding someone both physically and emotionally via emotions (his tone). He commanded everyone in the healing center to "numb", and their emotions turned off. He commanded the triplets to "stop", and they both physically froze and stopped feeling emotions. He commanded Ro to "sleep", and she was out--she was asleep so we don't know her emotional state, but my guess was her emotions would've been "asleep" too.

His ability is theorized to be a merging of empathy, polyglotism, and conjuring, so using that terminology we could describe it as: based on the emotions he experiences and senses, he uses his affinity for words and tone to conjure (which is instantaneous) an emotional and physical (as emotions are also a physical response) response in his target.

I don't know if that description makes a lot of sense, but it's how I've been understanding it as I read :)
