WIP Wednesday
“A year!” Verin practically shouts from the bottom of the stairs as Essek gets ready for 'the date'.
“I can count too, brother.” Essek rolls his eyes but in the fondest of ways.
“You know what this means-” There are rapid footsteps as his brother bounds up the stairs to annoy him in closer proximity. “A year of courtship means tonight he’s definitely going to-”
“Don’t say it-”
“Propose!” Verin is grinning at him in the mirror.
A Legally Blonde shadowgast AU? Why of course this is :)
Stay tuned.

Character Ask Meme
Lyney 14, 15 and 23
[Character Analysis Ask Meme]
Would Lyney be honest with you?
With his outgoing and fun personality, it oftentimes is easy to get caught within his flow. Lyney is the charming sort, after all, that one may very well forget that he is subject to the same struggles as the rest. Get to know him well enough, though, and you will quickly realize that this is not a fact he wishes others to know. More than a desire, he needs to be seen as someone in control, as someone without weakness. That’s his role as the big brother. And if that means lying, avoiding, and omitting the truth to accomplish it, then as an accomplished performer he will do as he must.
Does Lyney prefer to pursue or be pursued?
With a penchant for flair and dramatics, it’s clear to see Lyney prefers to pursue the people he’s interested in. Really, it’s one of the things he goes all out. With a trick up his sleeve, he won’t hesitate to dazzle you with flowers pulled from nowhere and fireworks from his tophat. He wants you to be enchanted. He wants you to be impressed! You are, aren’t you? You like it, don’t you? So focused on charming you that he often loses sight of much else. Fun fact, should you attempt to turn the tables, however, you can expect his mask of self-confidence to fall to reveal a rather flustered expression beneath.
Headcanons under the cut!
Headcanons
Self-focused - If there’s one thing that’s true about Lyney, it is that he is a very busy person. As a person with multiple masks and roles, his thoughts are often preoccupied with House missions, performances, new tricks, and things of the like. So, much to the dismay of others, it’s easy for things to become buried under the multitude of other tasks he needs to take care of. How often the simple things become forgotten—where he last left his wallet, tea time with his siblings, the sale on picture books at the bookstore. During those times, he really can’t help but appreciate his siblings and their ability to keep him on track. Really, he doesn’t know what he’d do without them!
Relationship-focused - It doesn’t hit you at first, but it doesn’t take you very long to notice how hard Lyney tries for your relationship. Normally this would be a good thing, but it is different with Lyney. Every day he tries to charm you. Every day he attempts to enchant you. You tell him he doesn’t need to try so hard, but that only seems to light a fire beneath him to do even more. You see it in his eyes. He needs to know you are still in awe of him, that you like him as much as he does you. And then it sinks in, doesn’t it? He doesn’t trust you. He doesn’t trust your feelings for him. You’re not sure if he ever will.

hello miss sergle, i have been trying to grow my nails out to sort of the length of yours, but now that im about half way there im realising that nails of this length tend to uh bend unnervingly under stress. most of my nails have pretty shallow c-curves as well so i dont think that helps. anyway as a long natural nail haver do you have any tips for strengthening them that doesnt involve paying for an acrylic coat at a salon
MMYEP mine are bendy too!! you and me, bud, we can't have long nails and naked nails at the same time... that's the trick y'see..
but no, I pretty much just always have polish on my nails! you don't need gel or acrylic, a regular mani you do at home will add some thickness to your nail, and it'll feel a LOT sturdier. 95% of my nail breaks occur when my nails are without polish.

New head cannon
Crowley painstakingly styles his hair himself throughout history. Not just miracling it into place.
Imagine Crowley discovering all the elaborate social implications of hairstyling with the ancient Egyptians. And working with wig masters at the French Court. And going to hairdressing school in the 50s, Grease style.
Now yes he probably doesn't do it everyday I imagine once it's done it magically stays the same til he wants a change. But he can, and it brings him great pleasure.

Bend and Snap of Time : deleted scene
( technically a one word prompt "perfumed" from @wanderingbasilisk but was too good to not use for a little not-in-the-final-fic scene! )
Essek chews on the end of his pen. A terrible habit, he knows, but with past invisalign crushing his teeth grinding habit and his nails too expensively painted, his purple pen is the only substitute.
“Verin, why is it taking so long for Luxon U. to get back to me?”
His brother leans back enough to stare at Essek without moving from his seat on the couch. “It’s been one day since you sent your application.”
Essek slides his incisor over and over on the pen. His mouth tastes like plastic but the compulsion remains. “One whole day.”
Verin continues to play Mariokart even from his upside down position. “Essek are you… oh my Light, are you nervous? I don’t think I’ve ever seen you nervous before.”
Essek hurls the pen at his brother. It bounces harmlessly off the back of the couch. Fabulous as he is, aim is not among his talents.
Verin raises an eyebrow and sits back up, facing away. Essek can see the screen pause and Verin turns to look at him. “Why are you nervous? You’re Essek Thelyss. You always get what you want.”
“Well, Adeen-“
“Who?” Verin grins and Essek feels his frown tugging up at the corners.
“No, you’re right. That loser dumped me? I’ll show him what a mistake that was.”
“There’s the brother I know.” Verin tilts his head. “Do you feel good about your application?”
“Yes, of course. It was impeccable to the last period. I even sent a ‘thank you for your consideration’ hand written note with just a smidgen of my personal perfume on it.”
“A perfumed note.” Verin laughs. “Oh they’ll definitely remember you.”
“Everyone does.” Essek grins.
Verin holds out his controller. “Wanna play Mariokart as a distraction?”
Essek sighs. He does the need something to take his mind off the ticking clock, and who knows the next time him and Verin can simply hang like this again. He’ll be accepted, he’s sure of it. But until then—
“Fine.” Essek strides over to the couch. “But I’m Peach.”
“I wouldn’t dream of taken her.” Verin smiles

diamant, the horrors chamber, and why he’s just so fun to mess with // the diamant-sertation series
i’d talked a little about this before on twitter about diamant angst and if i’m doing alright (i’m fine just biochemistry major go brrrr) and i just remembered this:
and i wanted to think about this for a little bit. i’m going to try and not retread old ground, but that’s kind of impossible if i want to break him in a realistic way.
but i was mostly thinking about how easy it is to destabilise him. i might be woobifying him too much, but i swear, i’ve been through this rigamarole before with a variety of characters. i’ve hurt characters over and over and over again, testing their limits, watching them bend and potentially break, and diamant has keeled over the fastest. it’s kind of funny in a bit of a twisted way.
but i mean it: why does he bend to easily compared to others?
i think it’s because he Refuses to experience The Horrors, and so when something encroaches on that tenuously stretched self control, he simply cannot deal with anything new, so he shuts down. you’d think he’d have a fight response to new stressors (he is of brodia; if you can’t fight, then what kind of brodian are you?) but i think he’s gone past that point. he’s dealing with enough already as it is, just One More Thing just will set him off. he’s tired, overwhelmed, and bottles everything up because He Should Be Able To Deal With It.
there’s definitely an allegory of being undiagnosed neurodivergent in here somewhere but we don’t have time to unpack all that.
but since diamant is so easily burnt out (which, haha, funny fire trauma go brr), he’s just an easy target to picking at all of his weaknesses and flaws. diamonds have very predictable cutting planes, and if manage to hit one just right, the entire crystal will shatter.
