MY BIRTH, 1932 by FRIDA KAHLO

This is a haunting painting in which both the birth giver and the birthed child seem dead. The head of the woman giving birth is shrouded in white cloth while the baby emerging from the womb appears lifeless.

At the time that KAHLO painted this work, her mother had just died so it seems reasonable to assume that the shrouded funerary figure is her mother while the baby is KAHLO herself (the title supports this reading). However, KAHLO had also just lost her own child and has said that she is the covered mother figure.

THE VIRGIN OF SORROWS, who hangs above the bed suggests that this is an image that overflows with maternal pain and suffering. Also though, and revealingly, KAHLO wrote in her diary, next to several small drawings of herself, 'the one who gave birth to herself ... who wrote the most wonderful poem of her life.'

Similar to the drawing, FRIDA AND THE MISCARRIAGE, My Birth represents KAHLO mourning for the loss of a child, but also finding the strength to make powerful art because of such trauma.

I need some post black sun!Zuko with a reader who is just as hot headed as he is. When he joins the group, him and the reader seem to always butt heads over EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. Not in a “this is personal and I hate you” kind of butting head, more like a “opposite attract” kind of head butting. Then one magical solo trip with Zuko later the two come back with different perspectives of one another. Now they can’t seem to understand or accept the new found feelings for each other.

And being the two most hot headed people along with Zuko’s lack of communication and social skills they end up unintentionally hurting each other AND think they have no chance with each other AHHHHHHHHH

New weird horse just dropped, folks.

A spotless giraffe was recently born at Bright’s Zoo in Limestone, TN and was just announced in the media this morning. They’re starting a public naming contest for her, of course.

I’d love to know what type of mutation causes this lack of of pattern, but I don’t know if we have genetics on that for giraffes the way we do other species. As far as is known, she’s the first spotless giraffe ever documented!

why is religious Christmas imagery all so joyful and pleasant? where is the inherent horror of the birth of Christ? A mother is handed her newborn child, wailing and innocent. Her hands come away sticky. Red. Simply by giving her son life she has already killed him. He is doomed from the beginning. Her love will not save him from suffering. Because the thing cradled in her arms is not a baby, it is a sacrifice: born amongst the other bleating animals whose blood will one day be spilled in the name of what demands it. the night is silent with anticipation.
