Plans for the God of Arepo brick award
Not to go too far ahead in case the "God of Arepo becomes award-winning Tumblr folklore" campaign doesn't succeed - we will find out this weekend - , but I've been ruminating about how to divide the brick for the 5 of us creators if this becomes a Thing.
I've been holding onto this vision that the honours might be stamped onto the brick. In which case I will probably hire someone to cut it evenly. Then it can be like a friendship bracelet thing where the brick only becomes 1 if the 5 of us ever meet up irl. Very thematically appropriate for the work.
However, there IS a possibility (in fact, it's 80%) that the brick award won't have a stamp aka it's just a normal plain brick. Maybe my friend with the stamped brick is an exceptional circumstance because they are overseas. I don't know if it's a thing they only did for everyone for one year and never again. (I'm arranging to get my brick for Alexander Comic from last year delivered to my house in Malaysia rn, so we'll find out if stamping is a special service for overseas winners)
Still I shouldn't depend on that 20% chance for the God of Arepo. I am going to have think about what to do with a plain brick.
In which case, I will go with the original plan of smashing it. It's pretty much a joke-traditional thing among us comics creators to smash the Ignatz Award into pieces to distribute between our collaborators (it's been done twice: for the Nib and Iron Circus when they each won Outstanding Anthology). The brick pieces end up becoming part of a larger installation with a plaque attached - which to me is way better than a plain brick.
I am probably going to hire Shing Yin - fellow comics creator and assigned brick smasher and handyperson - to break the brick and design the final outcome.
One design idea I have is to stack the smallest brick pieces into a cairn (like the original temple Arepo built) and make it into a centerpiece for a terrarium. See below for an example.
Stones and some fake greenery (fake because idk what export rules are for plants in the US, also I definitely can't receive plants from overseas).
I don't know what form this pseudo-terrarium would take. A cloche? A jar? A glass pillar with a cork lid? A glasshouse? So many vessels for a god.
I am really into this idea because converting the brick award into a stack-of-stones-inside-a-terrarium award is very aesthetically on-point and the best fit for everyone.
So now I guess we will wait and see if this wild scheme works out. Again I don't know what will happen. I am a cautious person so I don't wanna get everyone too hyped for something that may not happen yet, but I also want to plan ahead just in case. ????

actually yknow what, no. this is not being limited to discord, yall get it too.
some general cooking tips (in which there is a brief senshi posession):
moisture is the enemy of crispy skin. pat dry with paper towel, and if you have the time and spoons, give a thorough but even coat of baking powder and let sit uncovered in your fridge overnight. this will dry out the skin nicely. for pork belly, create a tight foil boat so that only the skin is showing, and cover in salt to draw out moisture, repeating a couple times if necessary.
furikake seasoning, for the fellow rice lovers, is just nori (seaweed), sesame seeds, sugar, and msg/salt. you might have most if not all of these things already in your kitchen.
chai spice mix is just cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, nutmeg, & allspice.
pumpkin spice is just cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger.
to cure your own bacon, you only need water, white and brown sugar, and a non-iodized salt - himalayan pink salt is not iodized, if you cannot find butchers curing pink salt. from there, you can add any seasoning/flavoring you want.
the truly adventurous may cook their rice in green tea for a fresh clean taste.
you can tell if a fish is truly fresh by their eyes - clear and bright is fresh, while cloudy is older or potentially has been frozen.
it's cheaper to buy a large block pack of ramen from your local asian market and repackage the bricks into sandwich bags, than to buy a box of individually packaged ones such as maruchan or top ramen.
when buying meat, look at it's fat content - more fat marbling usually means more tender + flavorful.
you can save onion skins and other vegetable scraps to make your own broth with. you can also save bones for this. mix and match ratios to create your ideal flavor.
bay leaf will always make a soup or broth taste better, but Watch Out (they are not fun to bite into on accident).
msg is, in fact, not The Devil, that was just a racist hate campaign against the chinese and other oriental races. it's literally just a type of salt. it is no more dangerous to eat than any other type of salt.
washing your rice is important because it not only improves flavor and texture by removing excess starch, but it also helps reduce any residual pesticides or dirt, or even insect fragments (please remember that rice paddies are essentially giant ponds that all kind of things live in and swim around. you should also be washing all your produce in general.)
please salt your cooking water for pastas, it just tastes better and you will be happier for it.
boiled potatoes are also improved by salt water.
if you hate vegetables, please consider trying them fried in butter or perhaps bacon grease. it is healthier to eat them fatty than not at all.
healthy food does not in fact have to taste miserable. thats a lie. they are lying to you. free yourself from your blandness shackles. enter a world of flavor.

Campaign to make The God of Arepo an award winning work and win a literal brick as a trophy for the authors and for Tumblr community as a whole (SUCCEEDED!!!! Update below)
As the artist for one of The God of Arepo comics, my version is up for consideration for the Ignatz Awards for Outstanding Online Comic.
For those of you who don't know the Ignatz is one of the highest industry awards that "recognize outstanding achievements in comics and cartooning by small press creators or creator-owned projects published by larger publishers".
The thing is, winning the award means winning an actual literal brick. Because the mascot is a brick-throwing mouse. So they have to make a bit where the trophy is a brick. Like. Look.
For a long time I thought it was just plain bricks they were handing out, but my friend who won a couple of bricks two years ago had theirs stamped (I saw the bricks in person at their house). So now I am obsessed with the idea of The God of Arepo winning an Ignatz trophy. It will have the honours stamped. On a freaking brick. That's the most Tumblr level meme trophy this comic/story could win (which is also a legit high honour industry award on its own btw don't get me wrong).
But wilder than that, the brick allows me to do something. It allows me to smash that break into 5 pieces and ship one of each to the authors plus myself. Writing Prompts, sadoeuphemist, ciiriianan, stu-pot and me will get a piece of clay in recognition for our work with the farmer who built a temple out of stone. The full circle moment.
Imagine the value of this win to the lore of this Tumblr sacred text/folklore. This brick will be smashed and given to the creators, but as a collective folklore, it's also dedicated to all of us on this hellsite too. AWARD WINNING. If The God of Arepo wins I will document the entire process of smashing that brick here.
But we have to make this happen. We need to gather our collective energy and make this campaign work.
Please help make The God of Arepo an award-winning story and vote for it in the Outstanding Online Comic category (link). You will need to request a ballot, then submit your vote. I recommend checking out the other nominated comics too. The Ignatz really shortlists good stuff.
The voting closes September 8 2023 .
LET'S GET THE GOD OF AREPO A BRICK FOR HIS TEMPLE!! LET'S GO!!!! REBLOGS HELP TOO!!

hey! i've been in talks with Mohammed/@help-mona.
their campaign (verified here) has been going on for quite a while, and donations have significantly slowed down.
i've been a bit destitute lately, but i was able to chip in 50 euros.
i'd love to see someone match my donation, or even match 10% of it.
if you can't, i'd greatly appreciate it if you could help spread it around.
even with small donations, little by little we can build bridges to safety.
but only if people are willing to help lay the bricks.
