Ranking mxtx couples by whether or not I think they'd be good parents
(I'm 90% sure I'm forgetting someone)
Yep, next question (S)-
Wangxian: tried and tested good dads. I wish them luck with the whole “trying to get wwx pregnant” thing
They have some shit to work through, but after that I think they'd be fine (A)-
Ling Wen/ Bai Jin: if we're just going off the original publication, I would put them in a much lower tier, but since the revised edition added that thing about them raising orphans together and said orphans turning out alright before unfortunate circumstances, I'm putting them up here. I think they'll be alright once they work through the miscommunication
Xiao Xingchen/ Song Lan: They obviously have a lot of trauma they're working through, but I'd like to think they and A-Qing will be a loving family in the long run
One of them would be a good parent, the other wouldn't be a bad parent (B)-
Jiang Yanli/ Jin Zixuan: there's no canon reason for me putting them this low. Jin Zixuan just gives off a mediocre parent vibe to me (and we all know Jiang Yanli is the best)
Yushipei: Yushi Huang has good mom energy, and Pei Ming has been shown to be a not terrible mentor. I'd want the misogyny fully beaten out of him with a mace before I'd think he should have kids of his own though
Lang Qianqiu/ Little Guy: at the very least, they're making sure Guzi is fed, clothed, washed, vaccinated, and has access to education. Neither of them know what they're doing, but I think Little Guy is good at faking it. I wish them luck in their upcoming custody battle
You know what, surprise me/ I'll hear you out (C)-
Bingqiu: My first instinct is “no, do not bring kids into this,” but then I remembered tharnShen Qingqiu has a surprisingly decent track record? Like, Ning Yingying and Ming Fan both turned out a lot more health than they did in the original novel, and though I wouldn't call him in a good place, Binghe is doing a lot better than Bingge. The wild card for me here is Luo Binghe because I have no idea how he'd be with kids
Quanyin: Yin Yu had a decent track record until he was pushed into snapping. I think rn, he needs a couple centuries of being a babygirl before he's ready to parent again. No idea how Quan Yizhen would do though
Born to “dual income, no kids, rich uncles/aunts” (D)-
Fengqing: Feng Xin is canonically a bad dad. I know he's working on it, but it is what it is. Mu Qing has been shown to be decent with kids, but I think he’d have a melt down if he had to deal with the mess constantly.
Hualian: I mean, Xie Lian has raised three kids at this point and one of them became a god, another became state preceptor and then sorta complicit in a genocide, and one became god AND committed genocide + he babysat a ghost king for months and didn't even realize that's what he was because it was a miracle if he remembered to feed him… so, a mixed bag. Hua Cheng may be schrodinger’s child hater, but I'm intrigued by the idea of him raising kids just because I want to know how his own childhood would influence his parenting abilities. They should probably just stick to babysitting for now though
Mingling: Liu Mingyan is too busy writing gay porn to be dealing with kids, and I just can't imagine Sha Hualing as a mom
Please don't bring a kid into this mess (F)-
Beefleaf: Do I need to explain this one?
Mobeishang: Shang Qinghua should not be put in any position where he has to teach someone about consent (Binghe’s early attempts at flirting being a prime example of why that's a bad idea). I also think Mobei Jun is still working on the whole “why hitting people is not cool” thing.
QiJiu: I think the original timeline is a prime example of how they're just not in a place to be raising kids
Jun Wu/ Mei Nianqing: Xie Lian would like a refund on his adopted father figures. They had one kid and he only made it to age 20 because he was cursed to not die

Um actually I have something more to say about Kabru and Mithrun’s similarities and relationship.
I think a lot abt how it’s shown a few times how elven culture relies heavily on non-natural ways of doing things, and it’s interesting especially how like our main cast repeats multiple times the three steps to living a long and healthy life. Meanwhile the canaries, the elves, don’t necessarily recognize that stuff as important as it is. I think specifically of the example of Mithrun explaining to Kabru that he has to have medication or a spell otherwise he can’t sleep, to which Kabru tucks him in and gives him a massage which knocks him out cold. His dependency on other methods to fight off insomnia were kinda just in his head, he hadn’t tried anything else. I mean prior to joining the canaries he was fully restrained 90% of the time so ofc a servant would just come in and place a spell for him to sleep every night. And he was like that for years. And then Cithis just replaced all his caretaker servants, then it became her job to make sure he took a pill or listened to her bells every night. I think there’s something there about how there’s a list of stuff Mithrun wasn’t allowed to be around and when he gets separated from the canaries he encounters all of that since Kabru doesn’t know to “protect” Mithrun or restrain him so severely. And it’s interesting because Mithrun doesn’t even seem to have issues with the things, like ofc top on the list was he wasn’t supposed to see goats or sheep. One of the first things he and Kabru eat is barometz. Its something to me that Kabru, who has also suffered so much, takes Mithrun into this dungeon and he has to face head on what’s been bothering him, he has to look his trauma in the eyes. And eat it. He cannot move on until he sees it, understands it, and finally starts talking about himself (“the last desire I had left wasn’t revenge, I wanted the demon to finish me off” “I was scraps left on the plate […] I guess vegetable scraps have their uses too”)
It just seems to me like a more vague and overarching way we see the elven cultural mindset hold him back from properly healing, I don’t think Kabru knew what he was doing at all but the fact of the matter is no one was filtering Mithrun’s view of the world anymore. And while Mithrun believed that didn’t matter to him, nothing mattered, it still made a difference. He was still on the path to moving on, and properly healing, even though he didn’t quite recognize that.

"Zira" "Azi" "Az" SIGHHHHHH
is anybody else irritated at the widespread fandom nicknaming of Aziraphale and fucking nobody else? is that just me? because it really feels like a "oooh [wince-hisses through teeth], no, that's too long and weird. that's too hard. i'm gonna call you This instead" situation, and i do not care for it. it pissed me off when i was writing good omens fanfic thirteen years ago and it pisses me off now. you care enough about everyone else to get their names right, all the unusual demon and angel monikers, but oh no, Aziraphale, oh that's ten whole letters, that's way too long. oh you're not gonna bother to type all that, no, his name is just Zira now.
and like, he's not real, so this super duper does not matter and isn't deeply and incredibly shitty the way it is when it's directed at real people. but it still rubs me the wrong way every time i see it. that's not his name! why is his name not good enough for you to take the time to type out the way you do for everyone else! ugh.

Hello I got some bottom!Alastor fics l’d like to recommend to u!!!
“Written in Scripture by PitFTW” this is actually a series divided in 4 parts. The first two parts are about Charlie turning into a porcelain doll with no warning as a result of a destiny written in Scripture by heaven. To get her back hell goes to war against heaven and that’s when Lucy decides to make a pact with Al, to give him more strength so they can fight side by side. I love the Constantly Battlefield flirting between the two, meanwhile they slaughter angels left and right, and half of hell thinks they are fucking lol…but they didn’t…yet
The 3 part is a Bottom!Lucifer, and the 4 part is Bottomo!Alastor which is my favourite. I don’t want to ruin all the fun so I am just gonna say that there is bluetooth vibrator involved in there eheh
“With a Coffee and a Caress by winterveritas” 4 times Lucifer touches Alastor and 1 time Alastor touches him back. This fic is so cute, and one of my fav scene was when Al’s shadow started filtring with Lucy by giving him flowers, and Al comes a moment too late, always offended by the sheer audacity of the thing lol
Nice bottom!Alastor at the end🫠
“A Terrible Beauty by ReminiscentBells” this series is not finished yet, and it has 3 part for now. The story starts when Al meets the devil in a radio camp, during the war and he hasn’t forgot him since. I love how it explore Alastor new born feelings towards Lucy and how sometimes he doesn’t feel to be enough for him, but Lucy is always there, patient and caring. A lot of bottom!Alastor and domestic fluff. Absolutely recommend this one🫶
OH HOO HOO! Twosouls, you really came in to feed me, huh? I am NOT complaining, these look delicious.
That Charlie porcelain doll one, especially 👀 the whole premise sounds so, so intriguing. I can handle a little top!Alastor (so long as it's done a certain way). I'm so excited to get into all of these! I've added them to my lists!
Thank you, thank you 🙏

I'm kind of over this performative horror some people do online about the concept of washing with "bare fucking hands" over using a wash cloth or loofah tbh. I thought we got over this shit in 2012.
Wash however the fuck you want, but most dermatologist advice I have read is that wash cloths and loofahs tend to over exfoliate and damage the moisture barrier, which will make dehydrated flaky skin more of an issue, and washing with your hands is a) perfectly adequate hygiene and b) a lot gentler on the skin.
And I'm leaving aside the issue of damp/air dried wash cloths and loofahs growing mold and bacteria and assuming for the sake of a direct comparison that they're being washed, dried completely and then stored outside the bathroom between uses, but like a lot of people very much do get staph infections from tools they wash with, so it's certainly not automatically more hygienic not to use your hands.
EDIT: Two TERFs have liked this post, so I guess I accidentally stumbled into one of their talking points, but to be extremely clear here: TERFs, GCs, radfems and any other garden variety transphobes are not welcome here.
I don't know why they care about wash cloth discourse, but they can fuck right off if they think they're getting a friendly reception from me.
