I actually learned about The Sleeveens (Nashville, Tennessee) from a Marty Winch/Green Noise Records email. They have a new LP out on Dirtnap Records (original releasers of The Exploding Hearts) but nothing is up for preview. So here is this excellent 7" on Sweet Time Records (Nashville, Tennessee).

Stefan Murphy sounds like he could be in a Dublin pub (RIP Shane McGowan). But the music also sounds like Ramones-era punk. And in some ways this recalls the early punk of Jonathan Richman/The Modern Lovers.

By the way, Sleeveen is an Irish term for trickster.

I’m still over the moon for their debut 22-minute EP/LP situation 12:34 from 2012, one of those records I’ll still be raving about as “the essence of rock ‘n’ roll” at age 51 while feverish from some kind of tropical intestinal parasite that now thrives in formerly frosty Montreal. Each of these eleven songs boasts an indelible hook, just-right level of bite, and a frothy beat, like Gremlins playing a ‘50s sock hop. I dunno man, I just want this band to be playing one of my locals every Saturday night for eternity, for cigarettes and whiskey not to hurt me so much, for infinite room for impromptu tattoos. I’m a simple man at heart, but if I’m lucky I’m simple like these songs: timeless and deceptively good to lean on when you need to.

Leatherman are a Melbourne, Australia based band that rock so hard. The Bandcamp page mentions a combination of The Exploding Hearts, Thin Lizzy and Judas Priest. Users also mention Blondie and Joan Jett.

I would add Stiff Richards, Sheer Mag, Royal Headache and Romero. Really, just great rock n' roll with soulful melodies and singing. This is released on Australian label Legless Records.

Relistening to Stolen Century and am still so in love and obsessed with how immediately Justin is enamored with Lup. He finds out Taako has a sister and he's so intensely in love with the idea of her. Griffin drops her first line of "Nerd Alert!" and Taako is on the floor laughing- Justin sees the vision and he knows the vision and he's IN IT. HE LOVES HER. TAAKO LOVES HER. AUGH.

Griffin knew exactly how to play it, and Justin was on board before Griffin could even say jump. Its just insanely beautiful the way Justin latches onto it, because Yeah. Because Yeah, if Taako had a sister he'd be obsessed with her. They'd be obsessed with each other. A perfect duo that doesn't always agree but who bring the same energy to the table. Lup is the perfect accent to Taako. They balance each other. They're the Twins. And he loves her so so so much.
