One of the many many things I love about the Goncharov Phenomenon is that when you find a post about it with a link or a sound file, you have no way of telling whether it's going to be some incredible creation somebody has somehow produced in the last 48 hours that will blow your mind with excitement as well as grief for the fact that this film doesn't exist, or a rickroll

I'm actually convinced that the whole Jesus being the son of god™ and a miracle worker thing was the goncharov of its time and too many people just didn't get the joke

the way we've collectively come up with a whole movie with a plot and themes in two days feels like an any% glitches allowed speedrun of the "humans are space orcs" lore phenomenon. i love this website

A concise description of Goncharov, for anyone as confused as I was when I first awoke.
There are as of now 19 AO3 fics in the Goncharov (1973) fandom... when I checked a couple hours ago, there were only five.

Someone mentioned that the movie they were talking about was directed by Martin Scorsese and my immediate thought was "oh, like Goncharov" and... I literally couldn't think of any "other" movies he'd directed. I did not say that aloud. Thankfully.

I find it so interesting the parallel of what's going on on Tumblr versus on (my side of) Tiktok rn. On here we have the Goncharov resurgence, everyone contributing to the bit with fanart and in-depth analysis and all sorts of content. Then on Tiktok there's the 'dabloon economy' and more and more people are making elaborate posts role-playing things like 'president of the dabloon economy' and cat characters running a dnd style inn with wares and everything.
In both, we have people contributing to a bit and actively role-playing to keep it going. At the same time. And I don't think either is aware of the other. The internet just collectively decided now is the time for shenanigans and I love to see it.

I'm so glad I got to witness Goncharov unfold live. Definitely in the top 5 best Tumblr events.

Just so we are clear: twitter created a fake country, tumblr created a fake movie and now tiktok has created a fake currency
My theory of cyber folklore just keeps getting more and more data to observe…

You know what I'm not looking forward to? The inevitable Goncharov remake. I just know they're gonna botch both the script AND the casting.
Too late, anon, it's already rumored to be in the works. I'm not totally sold with the rumors of Timothee or Florence, haven't ever been huge fans of either of them, but I do admit that they're solid performers. I DO think that Oscar Isaac probably will make it worth it.
Before anyone gets into it about age, they AREN'T shaving a decade off the characters, you just think everyone is older because you're remembering De Niro, Pacino, etc etc as they are now instead of then. Timothee and Florence are about the same age as the original cast were, so nobody start with that.
Anyway, like, we all DID think that the Dune adaptation was going to be a disaster, as it always is, but it's actually pretty solid with that cast. Haven't seen any rumors about a director or a screenwriter yet, but fingers crossed it's someone who can keep up with that cast.

ok I finally told my film scholar dad about the revival of goncharov. He’s really happy that it’s finding a new audience, but he’s fresh out of the gates with some outdated takes 😞

GONCHAROV MADE THE NEW YORK FUCKING TIMES

I do find it amazing that Tumblr users have collectively created not only a lore and plot for Goncharov, but also art, characters, gifsets, whole planned out soundtrack music themes, movie posters, and social/critical analyses for free. Tumblr users don’t even need a Hollywood-level industry to make a movie a phenomenon. The site itself has plenty of talented users who, by committing to the bit, manifested a totally new story for even more people to contribute to. Like, why blog about a franchise behemoth’s latest crappy release that ignores your demographic when you have more fun partaking in a completely made up thing that you get to help make real? If that doesn’t cement the site population as impossible to monetarily market to (in the best possible way), I don’t know what does. I’m impressed.

not to be that guy but goncharov has expanded way too much onto twitter and tiktok it may be time to let it die in there so we can continue to fully enjoy it as another fandom in here like we did before it breached containment

It’s just occurred to me that all the Twitter newbies and “celebrities” who have recently joined are currently undergoing the tumblr initiation wherein we (the user base) do something totally normal (by our standards) and we get to watch as the newbies sink or swim.
