a little life

when i finished a little life, i wanted so bad to share the grief and emptiness i felt to someone in a way they could never understand but i really need an outlet to express this feeling even if i had to tell every detail of the book but that would also mean they wouldn't want to read the book anymore because i've spoiled too much but i also want someone to feel the same way i do after reading it but realizing that even if they read it, they might not finish it cause it's too long and boring at first but it also wont be the same if they dont read it and me just storytelling everything.

Spoilers for A Little Life:

I’m currently rereading a The Happy Years (skipping around) and just want to point out that Jude literally describes himself when he says who he pictures Willem with (just as a girl):

“Someone beautiful (and female) and intelligent for Willem, someone who would know how fortunate she was, someone who would make him feel fortunate as well.”

It’s heartbreaking how he can’t see that he is all of those things and goes on to write a list with 20 reasons why Willem shouldn’t like him. I want to hug him so badly I cannot express it with words.

A little life has damaged me so much ( I haven’t even finished it) that I am consuming so much ghostsoap content at a rapid pace to cope. How are these two connected? I have no idea, probably just timing. Is it working? Kind of

In mine and many other east Asian cultures, the dragon traditionally symbolises things like power, wealth and strength (imperial symbol and all)

I think we often forget that in the story of the Great Race, the dragon came in fifth because it'd stopped to give people rain. Then it'd stopped again to push a rabbit adrift on a log across the wide river so it reached the shore safely (that's why the Rabbit year comes before the Dragon).

Dragons aren't meant to just be powerful - they are meant to do good with such power, and to help those in need.

So in this lunar new year, I hope you gain more power, so that you might be able to help others. I pray you have abundant resources so you may give to yourself and those around you. I wish you courage, endurance, kindness and generosity, for yourself and your people.

I hope you, and I, will be rain givers, life preservers, joy bringers.

I hope we will be dragons.
