I am BEGGING my tma/tmagp lovers to give a listen to the mistholme museum of mystery morbidity and mortality - eldrich horror? yes. cursed/ultranatural items? yes. a (canonically(?)) autistic main character who's increasing self awareness is both amusing and entirely relatable? yes.

for the last week of mistholme may, i'm finally posting this ux design project i did here!! its essentially a website design for the mistholme museum in-universe, and though it isn't perfect i'm really proud of how it came out ^_^ thank you to the mistholme server for being such a cool bunch when i originally posted this there :]
some pics are censored bc i took them myself, but hey its not not museum funkiness
the disclaimer section is actually up to date up until roughly early s6!! totally worth the effort imo
the weird video file sizes is bc i didnt standardise it and barely tested it but it's fine we ball (said with much stress)
michael afton is there bc it was the first filler name i could think of and i didnt end up changing it, apologies to the, if real, head of patronage
godfrey audio guide mention! i like the idea of them being a partner to the mistholme museum its cool
crystal skull my beloved, always destined to be incomplete
most buttons dont work regretfully, youll just have to admire the pretty text
the social media section contains weverse (social media for kpop stars) bc my sister thought it would be funny and it was hilarious to think abt kpop star guide

The Audio Tour Guide AKA Mistholme (The Mistholme Museum of Mystery, Morbidity, and Mortality):
The ATG is a sentient museum audio tour guide for a museum full of spooky artifacts. It is both completely lovely and kind of bitchy
Sentient AI who is a real sweetie. Got pulled into too many adventures after the museum went on lockdown. Gives tours most of the time but is also the museum now and oversees daily goings on
A magic/tech hybrid AI exploring its own personhood and sentience as it grows. Could easily take over the museum it has become a part of but is a very kind soul. Most demanding it has ever been was convincing its friend to pat a cat for it.
It's a tour guide in an alternatural museum. After facing some challenges and dealing with huge problems, guide learns new things about itself and the world around it and makes new friends. Its woe is trusting people (or not only people), forgetting that they might have bad intentions. Guide is the bestest friend ever.
Where do I even begin? The Guide literally exists on those audio tour devices, go look it up its so cute. It had to deal with its growing sentience and new emotions basically on its own. Was treated terribly by the human museum staff and it had to basically debate them until they accepted its new-found personhood (but it still uses it/its yayy)(the staff have since apologized for their actions and treat it equally now). At some point it was hooked up to the museum mainframe which was supposed to be temporary, but as it turns out The Guide is actually great at running the museum and would like to stay this way. This eventually leads to a small identity crisis since it now sees itself as the museum itself, and its consciousness and responsibilities are a lot grander than when it was just a tiny little tour device. But it's figuring that out, and it still likes being the museum, thus The Guide also counts as a sapient location! It becomes besties with a creepy bloodthirsty creature because they share the struggle of being constantly dehumanized. It fucked around with the fae and found out. It has to deal with time travel bullshit. It loves cats! It got to hang out with the embodiment of knowledge itself. And did I mentioned that throughout all of this it still gives museum tours to guests?!! what a cool guy!
Guide my beloved <3 (platonic)

Just a Mother and an Audio Tour Guide.
Found a new podcast I love, called “THE MISTHOLME MUSEUM OF MYSTERY, MORBIDITY, AND MORTALITY”. I am only on season 3 but I highly recommend it to anyone who likes podcasts. The scene above is pulled from season 3 episode 5.

Character Name: Mistholme/The Audio Tour Guide
Fandom: @the-mistholme-museum [Podcast]
Voiced/Written By: Dom Guilfoyle
Yarn Used: Body: CraftSmart Value - Black Interface: CraftSmart Value - Heather Gray Voice: CraftSmart Value - Black Headphones: CraftSmart Value - Black
Basic pattern here.
Tumblr media
Do you have any fucking idea how much it sucks wanting to hug something that not only literally but canonically doesn’t have a body? A lot.
Oh, my sweet, innocent, naive, trusting little Guide. Never lose that childlike wonder, no matter how much about the world you learn. And never lose your love of storytelling. I had hoped to finish Declan and the Guide before the finale of Mistholme, but I figure I finished close enough to the end that I can still ride that high. (Also, if you haven’t listened, go listen. Now. If you liked TMA’s format of “seemingly unconnected/only loosely connected stories that slowly coalesce into a coherent storyline that can, will, and must break your heart a thousand times over and have you begging for more”, you’ll love it.)
Tumblr media
The Guide went through a lot of transformations over the course of the show, both in terms of personality and in terms of…existence, I guess. Without spoiling too terribly much, I rather got the impression at the beginning of the podcast that there were physical audio tour guides you would pick up at the entrance to the Mistholme Museum with the latest version of the Guide on them that you would then turn in before leaving, but by the end, you could—and frequently did—download the Guide directly to your phone. So how do you convey that as something you can give the hugs it so richly deserves and desperately needs?
This is a fun one to write up, because…well, for the most part, I didn’t vary the basic pattern. As mentioned, the Guide doesn’t have a body, but it does have a personality, so I just made a black, person-shaped void to be its “body”. Where it varies, though…is the head.
Tumblr media
Interface: I wanted this to look like the display screen of an audio tour guide, so I stitched in the back loops only of the stitches forming a square where a person’s face would be beginning with R60 and ending on R71. Then I embroidered a sound wave onto it. Simple enough to describe. Surprisingly only slightly more difficult to execute.
Tumblr media
Headphones: You’ve probably figured this out by now, but I will absolutely make my life as complicated as possible in order to avoid having to sew too many pieces together. I think these turned out pretty damn good, though! Pattern is as follows:
Earpiece 1:
R1: 6sc in magic circle, sl st in first sc (6 sc). R2: Ch 1, 2sc in each st around, sl st in first sc (12 sc). R3: Ch 1, [sc in first st, 2sc in next st] 6 times around, sl st in first sc (18 sc). R4: Ch 1, [sc in first two st, 2sc in next st] 6 times around, sl st in first sc (24 sc). R5: Ch 1, sc in first st, ch 2, skip next st, sc in next 23 st, sl st in first sc (23 sc, 2 ch). R6: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in ch sp, [inv dec, sc in next 2 st] 5 times around, inv dec, sl st in first sc (18 sc). R6: Ch 1, [sc in back loop of first st, inv dec] 6 times around, sl st in first sc (12 sc). R7: Ch 1, inv dec 6 times around, sl st in first st (6 sc).
Sl st up to ch sp.

I have a lot of feelings about how the first time the Guide found out its true name, it was immediately used to hurt it.
just...that's the first name that was completely its own that it ever had. because Guide has always seemed more like a job description to me, even if we do shorten it to make it more of a name. and when it was first called Mistholme, that was immediately used to stifle it. and even after that, that name was used to control it for MONTHS! to keep it quiet, to make sure the truth of what happened didn't get out. its own name, something that should have only been the Guide's has never been used in a positive way for it.
How could you ever look at your own name in the -- I can't even say the same way, because that was the first time -- in a good way, ever, after that?

For all the audio drama conceits I’ve come across, the Audio Tour Guide’s “narrates when it’s nervous” coping mechanism has to be one of the best and cutest

Logically I know that the audio tour guide is in mother’s brain, HOWEVER, my brain doesn’t actually know how the tour guide got into her brain. Like, was he uploaded? Plugged in? How did it happen? So I end up just picturing her carrying around a mini radio like device. But my brain has made up many non-canon ways mother and the guide get around. Bellow is a few of those ideas, as well of some weird ways the guide could have gotten into mother’s brain.
