"Humans used to have magic, long long ago. Dragons were the guardians of the magic. When the humans abused their magic, when they used with malicious intent, that's when they lost it. The dragons took the magic back. They banned humanity from using magic. But there is enough of a remaining thread that humans can tap into it a little.

Sometimes, in every generation, there's a handful of humans who learn magic young. They respect it. They work with it as a partnership. Thirty or forty years down the line, they can use magic enough to heal a minor injury, spread a feeling of peace to a few people around them, tap into the mystic and spiritual just enough to cause awe.

They could hurt others if they wanted. But they don't want to. Their personal sense of justice and decades of keen observation tell them that they are meant to help and to heal... even destroy if it means making something better.

They teach others, using updated terms and phrases that make sense. It's a very subtle, tiny shift in the world, but it's enough to make the dragons take notice and approve.

It's tough to impress dragons. But those few humans who use their magic with responsibility and kindness understand how to please a dragon. They shine, like stars."

my personal favourite interpretation of those sorcerer supreme tony versions is that he has simply always been doing magic and just never really realized because, of course he has. transistors don’t work like that. magnets don’t work like that. no one else on the planet can make technology work the way he makes it work. to be clear. transistors do not and cannot do the shit he makes them do. sorry buddy i know you wanted to do science but unfortunately you’ve always been doing mage fuckery. rip.

Quick tip for witches: take everything anybody says about quantum physics in relation to magic and spirits with a grain of salt. Basically none of these people actually understand quantum physics, and they're all butchering it to make it seem like an explanation for their beliefs. As tempting as it might be to accept and repeat what they're saying, it's also irresponsible and misleads people about what we actually know about quantum physics.

Husband calls his cell phone Portal Of Remote Viewing and he loves to make up stories about going back in time and being a wizard. I just told him there's a bunch of Tumblr posts imagining the exact same thing and he loves it. He believes firmly in Clarke's Third Law. I've bantered with him about this regarding psionics and mystic. He insists sorcerers and mages are like scientists or STEAM folks with new fields of study. It's adorable. Also there used to be dragons.
