part two
Tumblr media
“Well hello everybody!” Eddie exclaims, scaring half the Hellfire lunch table with his presence. You hear groans and curses fill the table as Eddie laughs at the reactions he pulled from his friends. You just sit in the seat that’s located on the left of his, laughing at his usual antics, but curiosity begins to strike when you take a look at Eddie.
His face is bright and shiny, his smile stretching from ear to ear as he sits down with his lunch, pulling out some pretzels to munch on. You take in the other details about him, how his hair looks actually kept up and how he doesn’t reek of his usual pot smell, but of…cologne? You had no idea who it was that was sitting next to you, but it sure as hell wasn’t Eddie Munson.
“What’s got you so happy today, Eds?” You ask, nudging him with your elbow. He flashes you a big smile, pretzel bits showing along with his pearly whites. He looks adorable as ever.
“Well I’m glad you asked, sweetheart. I, Eddie Munson, have a date tonight,” he announces. Your heart does a summersault at the nickname, his nickname he always uses on you, before you fully process the second part of his statement, making your breathing stop for a moment. What the fuck?
You didn’t make this fact known, but you were crushing on Eddie…hard. The two of you have been close since your middle school days, having really connected with his band Corroded Coffin playing at the school talent show and approached them afterwards to share your appreciation. It’s been history ever since.
But it wasn’t until your freshman year of high school when you started crushing on Eddie. You had been having a hard time at home due to your parents divorce, and your father winning full custody meant you moved into the same trailer park Eddie and his Uncle Wayne lived in, the two of you growing closer than before now that you only lived a few doors down. You and Eddie would spend most of your nights together anyway, and one particular night your freshman year, you felt these butterflies flutter around in your stomach as your head rested against Eddie’s shoulder watching Sleepaway Camp, your and his favorite movie that you’d watch at least once a month together. Since that day you had kept your feelings hidden from him, not wanting to ruin things between you and your best friend. You thought the pain of not having him in your life at all outweighed the pain of being stuck in love with him, and that was a fight you’d be willing to battle.
“W-what? W-with who?” You ask, trying to cover up your slight stutter with a cough.
“Okay so you remember our latest show at the Hideout? Well with more and more people starting to show up as of recently, we’ve been getting some fans. And this girl, her name is Shirley, gave me her number and I thought ‘What the hell?’ and rang her up yesterday,” he explains to you and everyone at the table, the freshman not being able to help their curious little selves.
“That’s cool Eds,” you reply back, trying with all your willpower to remain neutral and shove the emotions you were actually feeling down deep inside.
“Yeah. We’re actually hanging out after Hellfire. She even said she might swing by, she’s been curious about the game a little. At least, that’s what she told me,” he tells you, causing you to drop your fork and look at him. He shoots you a weird expression at your reaction.
“Oops, sorry. But uh, I thought you weren’t allowing non-members into the meetings anymore?” You ask, your eyebrow raised.
“That’s true, but, as Dungeon Master, I’ll make an exception this one time. Who knows, maybe she could become an honorary member. She’s really cool, Y/N. You’d get along with her great,” he tells you as he clasps his hand on your shoulder.
“I seriously doubt it,” you mutter lowly, hoping your close proximity to Eddie didn’t allow him to hear. As if a saving grace occurred, the lunch bell rang and you jolted up from your seat, collecting your trash. You could see Eddie eyeing you from your peripheral. One thing there is about Eddie, he’s observant as hell. You’d usually applaud and commend it, but in cases where you were trying best to hide your feelings, you absolutely hated it. Sometimes you wondered how you were able to get away with him not knowing how you truly felt, but all the more relieved that he didn’t.
“Hey sweetheart? Is everything okay?” He asks you. You quickly turn to him with a slight smile and nod, before rushing towards the trash can that sat behind him.
“Yep, all good. Just gotta go tend to some newspaper stuff. I’ll see you at Hellfire!” Your words moving as fast as your legs as you bid the table goodbye until your meeting tonight, practically sprinting towards the newspaper room, where you’d spill your feelings to one Nancy Wheeler in your secluded gossip corner.
Nancy was one of the only people who knew about your crush on Eddie. The two of you have been super close since you started high school, and even more so with all the shit that’s happened with the Upside Down that started when the two of you were sophomores. Plus, with her brother now joining the Hellfire Club, she asked you to keep an eye on him, especially with everything that’s already happened in Hawkins, but you really didn’t blame her for that.
Stumbling down the hall with your backpack sliding off your shoulders, you open the doors to the newspaper room and see Nancy’s head pop up from her collaborating with Fred. You walk down the stairs calmly while giving her a pleading look, nodding your head towards the corner the two of you have your major discussions at. She gives you a small nod before returning to her conversation with Fred.
You unpack your bag and begin working a bit on the paper while you wait for Nancy. You were trying your best to remain calm, focussing on your breathing so you didn’t get worked up more than you were when you started talking with Nancy. Your mind had a habit of working against you, running a hundred miles a minute coming up with the absolute worst scenario of every situation you encountered. You didn’t need to be thinking doubtfully about your friendship with Eddie, but you physically couldn’t help it.
How could Eddie have a date with someone and not tell you sooner?
The two of you were best friends, he always told you when something great happens to him immediately after, and you do the same with him. Living just a few doors down, you had that luxury of always being near the person when you celebrate your wins, or comfort one another in your losses. So him keeping this from you until the next day? It definitely hurt, in more ways then one, and you didn’t quite understand it. Would you still be upset about it? Absolutely, so that bit didn’t matter much. You just wanted to know why. Why he’s choosing to date someone now, after being single for so long. Why he-
“Hey, I’m here. Sorry, I was working with Fred on the basketball story,” Nancy tells you, pulling you out of your zoned-out state.
“No worries,” you say, your voice residing somewhere distant. You feel a slight kick come from under the desk, prompting you to look down for a second, before bringing your eyes up to see Nancy, who shoots you a look of concern. Nancy too, was very observant, from what you’ve seen over your friendship the past three, nearly four, years. The people you surrounded yourself with the most were some of the most observant people in Hawkins, which was both a blessing and a curse. You sigh, turning slightly closer to her, ready to confess.
“Eddie has a date tonight,” you whisper softly. You watch her jaw open, as shocked as you were. At least, hoping in the same sense that you were, and not in a negative way. You never really knew about Nancy’s stance on Eddie, whether she liked him or not. The way you talk about him all the time you would think she’d be sick of it all, but never stopped you from spilling your secrets out to her.
“No way! With who?” She whisper-yells, scooting closer to you. You watch over her shoulder at Fred and some others looking your way, so you fake working on a spread, signaling Nancy to do the same.
“Some girl that came to their gig at the Hideout on Tuesday. I didn’t see it so it must’ve been when I went to the bathroom,” you continue to tell her while fake focusing on the piece of paper in front of you. Your entire demeanor suddenly became deflated, saying it aloud and hearing it from yourself. All becoming so real.
“That’s crazy. Are you okay, Y/N?”
“No, but what can I do about it? He and I aren’t dating, so I have no room to say who he can or can’t date,” you answer. You peak over at her and see her looking you dead in the eye, to which you couldn’t blame her. Even you didn’t believe what you were saying.
“Yeah, I know. He said she might stop by Hellfire, and, Nance, I have no idea how I’m supposed to get through the meeting tonight if she’s there,” you tell her. She reaches out and squeezes your hand and you give her a tight-lipped smile.
“Hey, if you think it’ll help, I can pick you up from Hellfire tonight and we can chill at my house for a sleepover. Junk food, distractions…I can even invite Robin and see if she’ll pick up some tapes after her shift at Family Video tonight,” Nancy suggests. You eyes widen in excitement and nod, truly needed a night where you don’t talk or think about Eddie. Just a night with your girls.
“That would honestly be the best, thank you Nance,” you tell her. She flashes a warm smile your way and scoots a bit away from you.
“Perfect. I’ll pick you and Mike up at 9 after I get Robin from her shift, if she’s free. It’ll be fun,” you tells you. You agree and continue working on your spread, excitement flowing through your body at the thought of a fun night ahead, even with the dread buried in the pit of your stomach at the thought seeing Eddie tonight at Hellfire with a woman at his side. A woman that wasn’t you.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Running down the halls and towards the room behind the theater, you look at your watch and try to pick up the pace. You had lost track of time in your efforts in avoiding Eddie by doodling some drawings in the sketchbook that you kept on you at all times, which in turn made you late to Hellfire, something you never did. But in your defense, you usually had Eddie giving you a ride to and from the meetings. Today was not like the rest. Walking through the threshold of the meeting room, you give yourself a few moments to catch your breath.
“Sorry I’m late, I-“ you began to say, but were interrupted by giggling coming from Eddie’s throne. You see a girl with strappy heels and a short, short dress leaning against it playing with Eddie’s brunette fringey curls. That must be Shirley.
“Oh good, you’re here. We almost started without you,” Dustin exclaims, his goofy smile appearing on his face.
“Yeah, I doubt it,” you tell him, throwing your bag in the seat closest to him and ruffling his hair, him protesting and swatting at you in return. You notice out of the corner of your eye Eddie giving you a confused look, then looking towards your usual seat, which remained empty. It was no secret that you had your own seat in Hellfire, right next to the Dungeon Master himself, but today, you knew it was best to keep your distance. Didn’t want to interfere with his date and all.
“Alright, now that everyone’s here,” Eddie pauses, giving you a look. You chose to just look at the table in front you to avoid eye contact. “Lets start.”
Dustin is the first to roll the dice, and everyone around watches as the campaign for the week begins. You try your best to pay attention to the game in front of you, but keep getting distracted by the amount of giggling coming from Eddie’s throne, due to himself and Shirley. They were acting like those couples you and Eddie would make fun of in the halls that were practically fucking in the halls of Hawkins High, and you’d always make fake sick sounds as you passed by them. Now that he’s acting those same people right in front of you and the rest of the club, you felt yourself growing sick, for real this time.
You stood to the side as you watched Shirley climb in Eddie’s lap, draping herself all over him and her lips ghosting over his ears as she whispers little things in his ears, and the reactions he gives to her words make you want to punch a wall. Not in anger, but in jealous. The green eyed monster had awoken inside you, and you felt yourself getting riled up at the thought of them continuing this act throughout the rest of the meeting. The worst part of it all? You knew this isn’t where the night ended for them, and you could only imagine what other kinds of plans they had up their sleeves.
“Y/N, you’re up,” Mike whispers to you, snapping you out of your small jealousy-induced trance. You take the dice from Gareth and shake the dice in your cold hands a few times, before tossing them on the table.
6.
You didn’t have enough health to pull any big moves. No luck to play the hero tonight. You sigh and slump your shoulders as the rest of the group lets out an annoyed groan. You were completely off your game for the night and you knew with how observant the club was, they could tell. But luckily for you, they didn’t press you about any issues you may be having.
“What’s your move, Lady Y/N?” Eddie asks you, his smug look making your skin crawl. Usually his dramatics during the game always wowed you and you’d join in, but it was hard to take in anything he was saying or doing with the leech that was attached to his hip.
“I…retreat,” you say, taking a step back from the table and Mike is quick to take the dice and roll for himself in order to save the campaign. You walk over to the seat you set your stuff in and take the sketchbook out you’d been busy with before the meeting and begin to draw.
“Do you know where the closest bathroom is, rockstar?” you hear Shirley ask. You mentally groan.
“Sure thing. Y/N, can you show her where it is?” Eddie asks, turning to you. You place your sketchbook back in your bag and stand from your chair. Flashing Eddie a fake smile, you nod and begin to walk towards the door, the sound of Shirley’s heels clicking behind you filling your ears.
The halls are quiet as you make your way to the bathroom around the corner.
“So you and Eddie, you’re best friends right?” Shirley asks you as you continue your journey to the bathroom.
“Yep, since middle school,” you answer.
“Oh that’s cool! I’m gonna be honest, I was a little worried when Eddie told me he had a girl best friend. I always think guy girl friendships are weird and don’t last. They usually always end up dating in the end or ending the friendship because one likes the other, and the other doesn’t feel the same way. At least, that’s how I see them,” she rambles. You slowly nod and point out the bathroom, her thanking you and doing a fake little run inside.
Pressing your back against the wall outside the bathroom, you can’t help but think on the words she said, the thoughts of you and Eddie ending your friendship lingering and seeping into every fiber of your body. It’s the exact reason you kept your feelings deep down and hidden, but would that work out in the end? Are you putting yourself through the pain and heartache for nothing?
The bathroom doors opens once more and she comes out.
“Thanks for waiting for me. I’m really excited to hangout with Eddie after your club ends,” she tells you.
“What exactly do you two have planned?” You ask, your curiosity getting the best of you. Part of you didn’t want to know, but your brain was screaming at you to find out.
“Nothing special. We’re gonna go back to his place and hangout, maybe smoke some. He also mentioned something about watching a movie…Sleepaway Camp? Have you heard of it?”
You froze.
Did she really just say that?
She stops and turns to you, giving you a look of concern. You felt the world around you starting to spin, the feelings from everything starting to come up.
“I-um, I’m sorry, but I-I’m not feeling too great right now. The theater’s in there, but I’m gonna go outside and get some air. C-Can you tell someone to bring my stuff out to me when everything ends?” You ask, your voice shaking as you lean against the wall for support. She gives you a nod and scurries inside the theater, leaving you to bolt out the doors of the school and towards the parking lot.
You bent over and held onto the railing by the stairs that spilled out into the parking lot, convincing yourself you needed to wretch. The feelings clouding your brain were mixed, swirling together in a nasty mixture that you weren’t sure how you’d describe to Nancy and Robin. The feels of hate and sadness blurring the lines and becoming one as you stood outside, wishing you had your jacket to protect your from the harmful feelings and the cool March temperature.
Sitting on the stairs with no luck on spewing your guts out, you let out a sigh and hug yourself in a pathetic attempt to warm up a bit. Your body grew cold rather easily, something that was always an issue, but the solution, or rather the two, were inside. You kept your jacket on you at all times, even despite the temperature being hot, because you never know when you might need it. In the event you forgot your jacket, Eddie would either lend you one of his, or just wrap himself around you, rubbing your arms with his big ring-clad hands to get you in a good place. You always welcomed that comfort. It felt nice being so close to him, even if he may not feel the same.
Your pity party is interrupted by a car pulling into the lot and parking right by the stairs. As the window rolls down, you see Robin pop her head out in a cheerful manner, but soon her features soften when she takes in your sour expression and sad body language.
“What happened?” Nancy asks from the driver seat. You rise to your feet with a sigh and walk over to the car, leaning inside through the window.
“More like what didn’t happen,” you respond, shaking your head and shrugging.
“Did that girl show up? Nancy filled me in on everything when she picked me up, so I have a ton of movie choices for tonight,” Robin rambles.
“Yeah she showed up. And they were being gross and lovey-dovey all night. Made me want to puke,” you explain. You feel Robin’s hand touch yours in an attempt to comfort you, to which you place your other hand on top of hers and give it a pat.
“And what prompted you to be out here instead of inside?” Nancy asks.
“Well first off-“ you begin, but hear laughter coming from behind you as the school doors open. You turn and see everyone laughing and walking together, the meeting drawing to an end for the week and you let out a soft sigh. Everyone goes in different directions, with Jeff, Gareth, and Dustin going off in one direction, Eddie and Shirley going towards their van, and Lucas and Mike coming towards you guys. Mike nor Lucas had your bag in their hands, which made you worried that you’d have to go all weekend without your supplies and homework.
“Wait, Y/N, where’s your stuff?” Robin asks. You shrug your shoulders and turn to the side, Eddie standing by Nancy’s car. You see his unreadable demeanor comes closer to you, his eyes fixed on yours as he holds out your bag to you. Taking it, you sling it over your shoulder and slide over as he kept walking closer to the window you once hung out of.
“Wheeler, you might if I borrow Y/N for a sec before you take off?” He asks. You watch Nancy nod and Eddie leads you over away from her car, out of ear shot of both Nancy and that crew, and Shirley, who’s waiting at Eddie’s van. You both just look at each other for a moment, you not really knowing what to say.
“Thanks for grabbing my-“
“What’d I do?” He asks you, his voice sounding neutral. You look towards the ground and swing back and forth on your feet for a moment, trying to think of a reasonable excuse for your behavior today.
“Nothing,” you reply, your eyes glued to the ground.
“You can’t even look at me, Y/N,” he says, looking down to try and catch your eyes. You let out a huff and look back up at him, trying to get this conversation over with, which was something you never wished with Eddie.
“There’s nothing wrong, okay? I promise,” you tell him. Now it was his turn to huff, added with a kick to the ground. You could see that you’re irritating him, and if you were him, you’d be irritated as well. But today was not your day, you just needed time away from him and try to bury the feelings you had towards him even further down. Take the weekend and recoup. Not to mention, his date was merely a hundred feet away and waiting for him to go back to your place and watch a movie together. Your guys’ movie.
“Y/N, please, I know you better than anyone. Can you please ju-“
“Eds! Are we going soon?” Shirley yelled from the van.
Ouch.
She just used your signature nickname for him.
What else did they plan on taking from you today?
“Soon sweetheart, I promise,” Eddie yelled back.
Double ouch.
Now he was using your signature nickname.
“You know what Eddie, just go, she’s waiting on you. Have fun watching Sleepaway Camp,” you tell him. Shit, why’d you just say that.
Your mind was starting to think before your mouth, the feelings that have been brewing the entire day bubbling to the surface and taking over the part of your brain that had rational thinking. That green-eyed monster was started to show her true colors. You turn on your heel and begin to take off towards Nancy’s car, when you feel Eddie grasp your wrist, stopping you.
“Wait, Y/N, how’d you know we were watching Sleepaway Camp? Did she tell you that?” He asks. You sigh and shift towards him.
“Yeah, we talked in the hall. But it’s not big deal Eddie, just go,” you say, not understanding why he was so determined to make things right between the two of you right now? Yeah, the two of you hated leaving things in a bad place, but you never pressed him about anything he was super upset about or just didn’t feel like talking about, and usually he was the same with you. Maybe today was not destined to be in the cards for you after all.
“You’re jealous,” he says matter-of-factly. You scoff and cross your arms, trying to add another layer of defense between you and your fragile heart that was about to break loose with all these feelings. You were starting to lose your resolve, and you weren’t sure how much longer you’d be able to hold yourself together.
“I am not jealous!”
“You are totally jealous! Jealous that I’m spending time with someone, a girl, who isn’t you. Don’t worry, Y/N, you aren’t being replaced, I’ll always make time for you,” he tells you, thinking he’s helped, when really, it only hurt more. Like he thought he’d have to pencil you into his life.
“It’s not that Eds-“ you begin to say, but his laugh cuts you off.
“Then what is it then? You mad you don’t have a ride? Or-or-or upset that we’re watching Sleepaway Camp?” he pesters you. You could feel yourself getting really worked up and uncomfortable, wanting to just jet off to Nancy’s car and ride far away from this conversation.
“Oh wait, do you like me or something Is that it? Do you have a big ol’ crush on me?” He asks mockingly, making you freeze. “Just tell me what’s wrong Y/N, please.”
You hesitate.
Fuck.
You. Fucking. Hesitate.
“N-no, I don’t have a crush on you,” you say, brushing it off with a weak laugh. You see Eddie himself freeze, looking at you with a deadpan expression. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
“Wait, Y/N…you have a crush on me?” he asks. That was definitely an understatement. You swallow down a breath that wasn’t able to escape, your body beginning to shake in fear.
You see the way his entire demeanor changed when he realized. The dramatics you so desperately loved stopped all together, replacing it with a scared look. Scared that it’s true and he had to let you down? Scared that he didn’t feel the same way? Scared it was you, of all people? That familiar feeling of wanting to throw your guts up began to boil in the pit of your stomach, your chest tightening as you continued to stare Eddie down like a dear caught in headlights, the silence booming throughout the parking lot. You couldn’t handle this, not tonight. You’ve already had the shittiest day possible, you need to escape before you lose your best friend forever.
You take off in the opposite direction, towards Nancy’s car as you hear Eddie calling after you. The tears were brimming your eyelids, desperate to fall and let every emotion you’ve been bottling up all day to come out in a flood. You open the car door and hop inside, practically shoving Mike in the middle.
“Drive Nance,” you say, shooting them a pleading look.
“Wait, Y/N, what happened?” Robin asks.
“Nancy, can you please drive away, now,” your voice raising as you plead. Nancy responds by changing the gear and stomping her foot on the gas pedal, making your escape out of the parking lot and away from Eddie Munson, who you can see still standing in the empty lot watching you leave. You let out a shaky breath as you turn and face out the window, hot tears rolling down your cheeks and sobs racking your body as you all make the journey to the Wheeler’s house.

'Cause I'm a jealous, jealous, jealous girl
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tara Carpenter x Fem!reader
Summary: A visit to the doctors was only supposed to bring good health, not jealousy.
Warnings: dislocated ankle, tripping, swearing, jealous tara...?, bad writing, not proof-read
Words: 6.634k (ik.)
A/N: i fucking suck at summary's. but on a happier note i've finished all my exams, yay. my enthusiasm can clearly be detected. my first shift at a new job is tomorrow and i am shitting dicks from nerves, it's at a icecream shop but that doesn't make me less nervous rvkjnoxnoa. anyway, hope you enjoy this!!<33
part II
“It cannot be topped. The Babadook is top tier and nothing will change my mind.”
You rolled your eyes as you turned your head to look at Tara, raising your eyebrows slightly. “You’re such a snob when it comes to horror it’s unreal.” Tara gave you a fake hurt look at your comment, you could tell she’s faking it since the girl has a small smile on her pink lips.
“How am I a snob just because I enjoy horror movies that aren’t teens getting killed at a camp that has some cheesy name like ‘Camp Cover.’”
“Don’t you dare disrespect Friday the Thirteenth or Sleepaway Camp like that!”
Throughout your and Tara’s walk around Central Park the topic of horror movies has been one the two of you debating on. You taking the side of defending slashers meanwhile Tara taking the side that elevated horror is much better.
Did you expect your peaceful walk with your crush best friend would turn into a horror movie debate? No, but it didn’t surprise you either. In fact horror is what made you and Tara even become friends.
You had been at a party and after a while it had died down and you ended up with a group of people sitting in the living room putting on a horror movie. After a few arguments on what to put on everyone decided to simply put on the latest Halloween movie, Halloween Ends.
You weren’t particularly enjoying the film much and ended up chatting with a girl named Anika while the movie played. At the halfway mark of the movie a poor drunken soul asked a question that ended up turning into a full on debate in the group.
“Who would win in a fight, Micheal or Jason?”
Almost immediately after the person uttered those words people started voicing their opinions.
“Micheal obviously, he’s been in the game longer than Jason.”
“Micheal. Literally nothing kills him meanwhile Jason has been killed a shit ton of times.”
“Jason is a mommy’s boy who didn’t even show up till the second movie. Definitely Micheal.”
You were alarmed with the amount of comments made slamming Jason, so naturally you went to defend him. Your strongest argument was the fact Jason was factually stronger than Micheal, something everyone had to accept.
“Sure Micheal did crush someone's skull with his boot in the twenty eighteen Halloween, but in Jason Takes Manhattan Jason literally punched a guy's head off. Jason would destroy Micheal.”
You knew you were on the right side since even horror nerd Mindy agreed with you before going on a much longer speech.
Not long after Mindy had finished her speech most had either gotten bored and left or decided to head home anyway. but a small group of you still stayed to finish the movie, one of those people being Tara.
“I bet Mindy’s glad somebody else agreed with her.” Was the first words Tara ever said to you. To which you replied with. “I’m just surprised how many people underestimate Jason.”
And the rest is history.
You became closer with Tara and all of her friends and after a few months even snagged the ‘best friend’ title, but it only took you a few weeks for Tara to snag the ‘crush’ title for you, something you’d take to the grave.
On this particular sunny day Tara has begged you to join her for a walk, in the beginning you declined since it’s boiling and would’ve much preferred to stay inside in your room reading. Unfortunately for you, you and Tara both know you can’t say no to her.
That’s how you and Tara ended up walking around Central Park talking about random things until the topic of horror movies came up.
Tara rolled her eyes as she shook her head in amusement, staring up at you as the two of you walked. “Alright then, what’s your top three horror movies then?” She questioned with a raised eyebrow, her smile turning into a playful one.
“Easy. You’re Next, My Bloody Valentine and,” You pursed your lips as you tried to think of your third favourite names such as Bride of Chucky, Ready or Not, Stab, Evil Dead, Halloween, Friday the Thirteenth swirled in your mind until one particular movie landed in your mind.
“Hush.” You finally added with a confident smile, taking a few extra steps in front of Tara as you turned your entire body to face her, walking backwards. “You’re Next has one of the best female leads who fights fucking back and even kills the douchebag brother with a blender. Iconic. My Bloody Valentine is easily one of the best horror movies that came out in the eighties, tied with Sleepaway Camp and The Thing. For the eighties the gore is insanely well done and its plot and acting is just spectacular.”
You took a second to catch your breath before you began to talk about your final favourite horror movie.
“Hush is one of the most underrated horror movies in history, don’t even try to change my opinion on that.” Tara lets out a small giggle that makes your heart skip a beat at the angelic sound. “Its plot is downright scary and the acting by Kate Siegel is truly out of this world for this role of Maddie. An intense movie that in my opinion was one of the best one of that year.”
As you carried on talking the more engorged you got into the topic meaning you simply got even more excited like a puppy getting a treat. Your smile at its best as you walked with a slight bounce, your eyes focused on Tara’s dark chocolate brown ones.
“Honourable mentions are definitely the classics such as Halloween, Stab, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the Thirteenth and Nightmare on Elm Street. Without a doubt each movie holds one of the most infamous horror villains ever made. Micheal Myers, Ghostface, Leatherface, Jason Voorhees and Freddy Kruger. Even if you don’t like horror you still would know those names.”
Just as you finished your sentence you went to turn back around to actually look where you’re walking, you spun around quickly as you tried taking a step forward. Apparently your pain couldn’t handle the simple task which inevitably ended up with you falling to the ground, landing on your ankle funny.
You groaned as you could feel the harsh pain in your left ankle already, looking down at your legs before you turned to look for Tara who is crouched next to you already, a worried look on her face.
“Are you alright?” She asked in a rushed tone as she looked you up and down, a small frown tugging at her lips. The small crease between her brows told you she’s worried, one hand behind your neck and the other on your side confirming that thought.
You give a stiff nod as you push yourself up with your arms, biting at your bottom lip to not let out a strangled yell at the pain radiating from your ankle at the movement. “Peachy.” You mumbled through clenched teeth as you give her a non-convincing smile.
The brunette gives you a ‘are you being serious’ look as she swiftly moves one of her hands to grab yours, the feeling of her hand in yours erupting butterflies to go off in your stomach.
Not the time to have a gay panic, you mentally yell at yourself.
“It’s just a scrape, Tar.” You reassured as you manoeuvred your right leg to try to stand up, Tara swiftly stood up herself as her grip on your hand only tightened. The second you moved your left foot the pain increased, you bit at your bottom lip roughly to stop yourself from screaming.
Deciding to simply fight through the pain you placed your right foot flatly on the ground, ready to stand up. You look at Tara who looked down at you with an even more worried expression than before.
“Help me up?” You asked which she did, she began pulling you up slowly until you had to place your left foot flat on the ground to stand up, deciding to bite the bullet your roughly moved your foot to place it flat.
The second you felt your left foot make contact with the ground you stood up quickly, tears swelling up in your eyes at the immense pain radiating from your ankle.
“Y/n I don’t think it’s just a scrape.” The worried Tara announced as she took a step closer to you and placed a hand on your shoulder comfortingly.
You smiled softly at her as you shook your head ‘no’. “Alright then a bruise, which is still manageable.” Tara gave you a pointed look as she gazed into your eyes, her soft dark brown eyes making your knees feel weak.
“I don’t believe you.” She states.
“I’m fine. I swear, T.” You replied as you squeezed her hand in reassurances, trying to ignore the horrible pain in your ankle. You didn’t want to worry the girl even further.
The smaller girl insists on a silent staring content as she challenges you, if you back down that means she’s right and you’re wrong, if she backs down that means she’ll drop it for now. Your gaze never breaks as your eyes bore into hers, an eyebrow raised challengingly.
Tara shows no sign of backing down either with her own brows raised as she stares at you, her lips pulled into a straight tight line. The deadpan glare really reminding you of Sam.
The pain from the ankle radiated higher up the leg with much more fierce pain which forced you to hold back a whimper at the pain, at the feeling of pain you relent and back down from the contest, breaking eye contact first.
“Fine, you win.” You grumble, crossing your arms over your chest like a child losing a game. Tara’s grins smugly as she sticks out her tongue to get all the glory possibly at the small win. “I knew I’d win.” Tara says her tone dripping with smugness, oh the things you’d do to wipe that grin off her face.
Luckily you didn’t have to do anything since Tara’s eyes suddenly widened as if she just remembered why she was competing in the first place. “Shit your leg.” She mumbles mostly to herself as the worried look replaces the one of victory.
The brunette glances around the park and notices a bench not too far away from you two. You watch as she mutely nodded her head to herself as she planned a plan in her mind, her head turning back towards you a few moments later.
“I’m gonna carry you to the bench and then I’ll check your ankle.” Tara explained as she took a few short steps closer until she’s invading your personal space. You give the Carpenter girl an amused smile. “Okay then Doctor Carpenter how are you planning to carry me over when I’m literally taller than you.”
“I could carry you if I wanted to.” She remarks as an offended look appears on her face, her own arms folding over her stomach. You rolled your eyes as you let out a huff, without much more explanation you wrapped an arm around Tara’s shoulder, pulling her in.
Ignoring the sudden warmth you feel in your cheeks you raise your left foot off the ground, using Tara to lean on. “C’mon,” You mumble as you begin to hop forward with your right foot. Tara immediately complies and begins walking with you, her own arm tightly wrapped around your waist, her free hand raised to hold your hand which dangled off her shoulder, something that most definitely didn’t help the blush on your cheeks.
Damn your gayness.
After a handful of grunts, a few stops and a thousand “Are you okay?” from Tara the two of you reached the bench, Tara making sure to lower you down slowly.
Sitting down you could feel the throbbing pain in your ankle as if it had another heartbeat there. Clenching your jaw you look at Tara who is kneeling in front of you, one hand on your calf and the other near your left foot.
“I’m going to take off your shoe okay, I promise I’ll try my best not to hurt you.” Tara affirmed softly as her eyes gazed up into yours not trusting your voice you gave her a curt nod signalling her to go ahead.
As she untied your shoe laces you began to loathe your past self for deciding to wear converses. Every small movement she did the pain only intensified making you flinch or let out a pained moan.
“Sorry,” Tara apologised as she began to take off the shoe. The throbbing pain in your ankle only got worse, you raised your hand and bit at your knuckle harshly as Tara kept apologising as she took the shoe off.
The second your foot was without a shoe you could feel a slight relief but the pain didn’t change much. “Jesus Christ.” Tara gasped as her delicate fingers gently wrapped around your calf. You let out a humourless chuckle as you looked down at Tara and your swollen ankle. Your ankle had already began to swollen as a nasty dark purple began tainting the skin around it, you grimaced at the sight of your fucked up ankle.
“Maybe it isn’t that bad?”
_________
“-severely dislocated ankle.”
So it was as bad as it looked.
You sighed as you glanced over at Tara who is standing next to you paying much more to what the nurse said than you. Her worried look hadn’t slipped away for a second ever since Sam dropped you two off at the hospital, in fact you’d say it’s probably even gotten worse.
The older Carpenter sister couldn’t come in with you two since she had a shift at the bar she worked at.
“You’ll be given crutches to help you keep weight off the ankle as well as an ankle brace that you’ll have to wear for a few weeks. Medication will also need to be taken three times a day with each meal.” The nurse listed off in the most montoned voice you’d ever hear, seriously, it competes with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Terminator.
You nod your head weakly as Tara nods her head curtly, an appreciative smile forming on her lips. “I’ll make sure she takes them, thank you.”
The nurse mumbles something under her lips before turning to glare at you, her blue dull eyes void of any emotion. “The doctor will be here in a minute to give you some painkillers to ease the pain.”
“Okay, thanks.” You replied with a small smile, the old nurse glare got even colder before she abruptly turned her back and walked away. You sigh dramatically as you lean your head even further on the thin hospital pillows, looking over at Tara who’s already right by your side.
“I can’t believe you got so excited over horror movies you sprained your ankle, that is more nerdy than Mindy.” She teased in a playful tone as she slightly leaned on the side railings of the bed, her eyes focused on your face. You could tell she’s trying her best to try to find humour in the situation rather than turning into a worried mess.
You let out a laugh of disbelief at that smirk toying at your lips. “I could’ve cosplayed as Jason and broken my arm over getting so excited and that still wouldn’t be enough to beat Mindy.” You retort in the same playful tone as you pushed yourself further up on the bed, flinching at the pain radiating from your ankle at the movement.
“Once you’ve gotten your painkillers we can leave, we’ll just stop by my apartment so I can get a few things then go to yours.” Tara declared as her hand moved to lay on top of yours, her warm hand warming up your cold one.
You tilted your head to the side like a confused puppy at her words. “What do you need from your apartment?” You asked, flipping your hand over so you could lace your fingers with Tara’s.
Tara’s eyes averted from yours and flickered down to your linked hands, the tip of her ears turning red at the contact, you couldn’t help but feel a surge of hope at her reaction. The brunette stared at your hands for a few moments as if she had completely forgotten you asked her a question.
You smirked as you gave her hand a squeeze making her eyes snap back to yours straightaway with an embarrassed smile on her face as she let out a dry cough. “What?” She stuttered out.
“What do you need from your apartment?” You repeated for her sake, the smirk never leaving your lips. “To get some spare clothes, charger, headphones and my spare inhaler.”
“I already have a spare inhaler at my apartment.” You say right after she mentioned the spare inhaler. Tara’s eyes softened even more at that, her nervous smile turning back into that sweet smile that made your heart beat increase.
Something you became incredibly aware of as the monitor to your heart started becoming louder and more frequent.
“Really?” She asks as her eyes flicker over to the monitor before coming back to you. You nodded your head. “Yeah just in case of an emergency or you’d forgotten yours at home.” You answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Before Tara could reply, heavy footsteps are heard walking towards the two of you, both of you snapped your head towards the noise and that’s where you see the second most gorgeous human being on earth.
(Tara obviously being first)
The doctor had long black hair that reached a few inches below her shoulders, her eyes a dark brown colour that almost looked black. The woman looks around thirty years old, one or two barely noticeable wrinkles on her face. With or without she had your gay heart speeding at the sight of her.
She strutted closer to the two of you with a warm smile on her lips with a clipboard in the clutches of her right hand. “Y/n L/n?” The doctor asked in a raspy voice that told you she’s most definitely smoked a handful of times in her life, the thought somehow made the woman even hotter to you.
“Yes.” You stuttered out, starstruck at the pure beauty of this woman. She flashed a grin as she started to prepare the IV for you. “I’m Doctor Edwards and I’m going to give you some painkillers to ease the pain, is that okay with you?” She confirmed which you could only dumbly nod at.
The older woman let out a low laugh at your reaction which made heat rise to your cheeks at the sound. Jesus who knew older women had such an effect on you?
A tight grip on your hand made you let out a low whine as you turned to look to your side to see a not so happy looking Tara Carpenter. Her smile had completely vanished and her soft looking lips pulled into a tight line.
“You okay?” You whispered to Tara bringing her glaring eyes away from the doctor and to look at you. She replied in a curt nod as her features slightly softened at the sight of you.
Before you could reply you felt a cold hand graze across your elbow, firm fingers taking a tight yet somehow soft grip on it. You turned to look back at the Doctor Edwards who is now closer as she prepared to insert the needle attached to the IV full of fentanyl in you.
“This might feel a bit uncomfortable honey.” She told you as her eyes glanced towards yours, your heart monitor frantically picking up at the fact this practical milf just called you ‘honey’. The dark haired woman smiled reassuringly at you as she positioned the needle at the top of your forearm. “It’ll be over before you know it.”
“Okay, thank you.” You croaked out as the grip in your and Tara’s interlocked hands got even tighter. This time you squeezed back as you felt the needle start to stab into your skin, you’d never been a fan of needles.
“You’re doing so good for me honey.” Doctor Edwards encouraged in a honey sweet voice that would attract bees.
God is she trying to kill me, you thought to yourself.
After a few seconds you could feel something flow into your body which made you grimace at the feeling before you eventually relaxed as the pain instantly started to calm down in your ankle.
“All done.” You turned back to look at the doctor who took a step back moving to grab her clipboard and scribbled a few things down on the paper. “I’ll be back in a few minutes to see how you are and then you’ll be good to go.”
“Thank you so much.” You replied as you gave her a smile, the painkillers coursing through your veins soothing you. She looked at Tara and gave the grumpy looking girl a smile before she took off to deal with other patients.
You sighed in relief.
“So unprofessional.” Tara mumbled next to you in a low voice.
Your brows furrowed together as you turned to look at her, that annoyed look still on her face. “How was she unprofessional? She was lovely and gave me sweet drugs to ease the pain, what’s not to love about her?” You defend as you look at her.
Tara scoffed as she dropped your grip and crossed her arms over her chest like an angry toddler being told ‘no’. “She was flirting with you. She’s the doctor and you’re the patient, that’s beyond unprofessional.” Tara argued back, dropping to sit down on the small one person blue chair next to your hospital bed.
You could already begin to feel the effects of the painkillers, must’ve been a high dosage, you thought. You cocked your head to the side as a teasing smile complimented on your lips. “If she was then I might ask for her number before we leave.”
“No!” Tara said a bit too loudly making you let out a giggle. Damn, how strong was the dosage?
“Why not? She’s the first woman in months to actually flirt with me.” You retorted as Tara’s stare hardened as her eyes glazed over to the doctor a few beds down talking to another patient in a leg cast.
Tara looked back over at you as she tried to think of a suitable reason why you should reject the apparent flirting doctor. You smirked as the silence filled up between Tara and you telling you that Tara didn’t have a solid reason for you to not ask the doctor out.
Your eyes slowly averted to the older woman who had a soothing smile on her lips as she talked to her patient, you could tell she actually cared for the people rather than just taking the job for money.
“I just don’t think you’d be a great match that’s all.” Tara’s voice piped up resulting in your eyes glancing back over to the sour looking girl. The strong painkillers already having an effect on you, boosting your confidence and lowering your care as a teasing smile emerges on your face.
“You didn’t even speak to her, how could you tell she isn’t good enough for me?” You pressed, wanting to get a bigger reaction from her. You’re no Emily Prentiss at reading people but even you suspect that Tara Carpenter seemed a little bit jealous.
The thought egged you on to try to get the green eyed monster to erupt in hopes of the girl maybe actually doing something rather than sit there seething with jealousy.
Tara shrugged her shoulders as she bit the inside of her cheek, a bad habit you’ve noticed she keeps doing when she’s either annoyed or stressed. She doesn’t give you a verbal answer as her eyes refuse to make contact with yours.
“Alright then,” You begin as your eyes gaze into Tara’s side profile, she glaring at the innocent wall rather than looking at you. “If she isn’t a good match for me, who would be then?”
“Anyone else.” Tara replied swiftly as her eyes maintained on the wall.
You nodded your head weakly to yourself, the teasing smirk still on your lips. “Anyone else?” You repeat her words as she hummed in agreement. “So do you think Quinn would be a good match for me then? Quinn has great humour, she’s a part of the friend group so you can trust her and she definitely knows how to please someone in bed.”
Tara still refused to look at you as she spat out her answer. “Quinn is a heartbreaker and prefers to have flings rather than stay in a relationship.”
“No Doctor Edwards and no Quinn, how about Sam then.” Tara’s head snapped to glare at you in such a fast movement it looked like she could get whiplash from it. She shook her head curtly. “No.” Is all she says in a low voice.
You let out a laugh as mischievousness swirled in your eyes as they locked with Tara’s dark brown ones. You bit at your lower lip for a second before speaking.
“Well who then? You?”
The annoyed glare on Tara’s face dropped as a stunned one supplanted it. Her eyes widened as her once tightly pulled together lips now relaxed, her dark chocolate eyes melting as they didn’t tear away from yours. A scarlet red hue of a blush accompanied her cheeks the longer you gazed into each other's eyes.
A lazy smile complimented your lips as you raised your eyebrows at the girl, silently asking her ‘Well?’. Tara stayed quiet. She didn’t nod her head, she didn’t shake her head either. All she did was gaze at you and your lazy grin.
Her mouth opened but no words were uttered, she looked like she’s mimicking a fish. Tara shut her mouth back closed and stayed like that for a few moments before she opened her mouth again, more prepared to say something this time.
“Are the painkillers working, Y/n?” Doctor Edwards interrupted as she appeared from thin air, standing next to Tara whose glare instantly focused on the doctor. You couldn’t help but let out a giggle at Tara’s pissed off look as you turned to look at the older woman.
You smile loosely as you give an awkward thumbs up to her. “Superb, doc, now I understand why people like them so much.” She chuckled as she nodded her head stepping closer as she pulled the IV needle from your forearm, a small dot of blood appearing at where the needle once was.
You stared in awe as she moved to grab a cotton ball from her trey of medicine on the other side of the bed, pressing the ball against the blood before she taped it there with medical tape that made sure it stayed there.
She smiled kindly at you before she checked your vitals quickly, once done she took a few steps back to get a good view of you. “You’re good to go, Y/n. I’ll write you a prescription for your medicine and get you your crutches and then you can leave.”
You sighed in relief as you nodded your head giving her a thankful smile. “Thank you, I’m pretty sure you saved my life.”
She shook her head as a raspy laugh escaped the older woman’s lips. “I think that’s a little bit over the top but either way it was my pleasure.” Before you could reply a cough is heard from next to you.
You turn to look at Tara who is now standing up and much, much closer to you now. A fake sickeningly sweet smile plastered on her face as she looks over at the doctor, her hand on your shoulder.
“Thanks for all your help doc but we should really get back home and make some dinner.” Tara says in an even more sweet voice that you just know is fake. Your eyes avert back to the doctor who has a smile on her lips as she looks between you and Tara.
She hums as she takes a singular step back. “Don’t worry honey I know you two just want to get home and get into bed together and sleep after such a stressful day. I’ll be back shortly with the crutches and prescription.” She promises as she turns on her heels and exits the room to do what she just said.
“Bitch.” Tara grumbled next to you as she glared at the woman walking away. Her fake smile vanished into thin air. You roll your eyes as you carefully push yourself to the edge of your bed, stiffly moving your legs off of the bed.
“There’s no signal inside the hospital. Do you wanna go outside and call Sam? She’s probably finishing her shift around now since we’ve been here for hours.” You asked her, as you moved your left leg back and forth steadily, sighing at not feeling much pain anymore due to the painkillers.
“Okay, I’ll be back in a second. Do not leave this bed.” Tara demands with a threatening point of her index finger that simply makes you giggle, raising your hands up with a goofy grin on your face. “Wouldn’t dream of it.”
Tara stares at you for a few moments before she hurriedly walks out of the room, taking her phone out of her pocket and already trying to call Sam. You didn’t look away at her retreating figure until she was fully out of your view, only then turning your head away.
“She has to be jealous, there’s no other explanation for her behaviour.” You tell yourself as you observe the seat Tara was sitting in a few minutes ago.
“Oh she’s practically the green eyed monster honey.” A voice says from behind you.
You jumped as you snapped your head to look in the direction of the voice to see Doctor Edwards standing there holding crutches and a small slip of paper. You sighed dramatically as you dropped your head.
“How the fuck do you move around so quietly? You’re like a cat.” The woman chuckles as she walks in front of you presenting you the crutches. You smile weakly at her as you take them, quickly putting your arms through the holes and gripping the grey handle.
Slowly, you push yourself up until you’re fully standing up, your left foot hovering off the ground as you bend your knee. “The older I get the quieter my steps become.” She replies stretching her arms to your sides ready to catch you in case you’d fall.
You smile bashfully at her as you steadied your stance. “Well you don’t look a day over twenty five.” You compliment her, your voice coming out much stronger and confident that you anticipated.
These painkillers are really having a toll on me.
“I think the drugs are really starting to hit you now, sugar.” She says as if she heard your thoughts, her eyes glanced away from yours to behind you for a second before they smoothly returned to yours.
The older woman leans closer until her mouth is not too far away from your ear, in a whisper she says. “Tell her the truth.” You quickly put the pieces together and guess what she’s talking about. “What if she doesn’t like me back?” You questioned worriedly in a whisper.
She lets out a low chuckle as she pulls away looking behind you once again but for longer this time. “I know the look of love as well as I know the look of jealousy, dear.” You turn to look at what the older woman is already glancing at; not surprisingly you see a proper pissed off looking Tara near the doorway.
You smile happily at Tara as you retrieve the prescription from the doctor’s hand, gripping it in your non-dominant hand. Glancing back at the woman she steps aside gifting you a soft smile. You wordlessly nod at her before wobbling over to Tara, grunting at every hop you took with the crutches.
Tara snaps out of glaring and briskly makes her way over to help you, that gorgeous smile not showing on her face.
“Sam will be here any minute.” Tara confirmed as she took the slip of paper from your clutches to give you more of an advantage. You mutely nod your head at her words.
__________
By the time you and Tara left the hospital, having to take one too many stops since you were struggling with the uncomfortable clutches as you felt more and more tired with every passing moment, Sam is already there in her car.
The car ride to the Carpenter’s apartment was filled with low music from the radio and no small talk being made. You sat in the back with your crutches while Tara and Sam were in the front. You took that time to check your socials and ramble to Mindy about your massive gay panic at the hospital.
Before you know it you’ve stopped at the Carpenter’s household and now just arrived at your apartment complex. Flinging the car door open, you grunt as you lean out of the car putting on the crutches, Tara somehow appears in front of you and guides you to stand up with much less of a struggle.
You give Sam a wave and a smile as you hop over the driver’s side window where Sam has rolled down the window. “Thanks for the lift, Sammy.” You mumble tiredly to which Sam rolled her eyes at.
“Don’t call me that.” The older Carpenter sister grumbles in her usual grumpy tone. You grin lazily as you take a small step backwards. “You know you love it.”
“I don’t. I hate it as much as I hate you.” Sam said as she shifted the gear stick as she started to drive off. “Love you too, Sammy!” You yell as she drives off, giggling like a child when Sam’s hand emerges from the window flipping you off.
“Let’s get inside.” The tired Tara says from behind you, her hand pressed against your back gently. You turn to look at her letting out another weak chuckle. “Please.”
Tara smiles softly at you as she begins walking by your side into the apartment complex. Taking the elevator, the two of you staying in silence the entire journey until you both arrive at your apartment, Tara unlocks the door with her spare key and walks in first flicking on the lights as she holds the door open for you.
You smile appreciatively to Tara as you wobble over to your bedroom, desperate to get to your bed. Tara closes the front door before she follows you into your bedroom, dropping her blue backpack on the floor outside your bedroom before entering.
“Oh sweet bed how I have missed you.” You murmured against the pillows your face dug deep inside of them, your forgotten crutches thrown on the floor beside your bed. You feel a dip in the bed at the side of your head, you roll over to lay on your back as you look at Tara sitting beside your head.
“You can’t sleep in those, Y/n, you need to change out of your jeans.” She reminds you in a knowing tone causing you to let out a loud groan, covering your face with your hands. “But I just sat down.” You say in a muffled voice behind your hands.
Tara laughs sweetly as you feel her weight move off of the bed, her footsteps telling you she’s headed towards your dresser. Peeking through the crack of your hands you see her pull out your favourite pyjamas.
Is it completely childish? Yes. Do you care? Not at all.
The brunette pulled out your deadpool pyjamas, the set being your all time favourite piece of sleep clothing. She throws it over at you before heading towards the door, leaning against it as she turns to look at you once again.
“If you need help just yell my name.” She offers before silently leaving and closing your door quietly. You sighed as you sat up grabbing the clothes that landed on your lap.
You took your time changing into the pyjamas. Taking off your shirt and bra and replacing them with the red oversized deadpool shirt took a few seconds at most. The real challenge being taking off the thick long grey boot on your leg foot before slowly shuffling out of your jeans and into the sweats.
Once changed and the brace back on you move to lay back down on your bed, your eyes fighting the urge to shut with every passing second. Right as when you start to feel yourself drift off to sleep a knock is heard at your door.
“Y/n? You good?” Tara’s muffled voice is heard through the door.
You smile as you nod your head as if she can see you. “Yeah you can come in if you want.” Tara quickly takes up on that offer and re-enters your room with a small smile on her face as she walks over to you.
She had also changed into her pyjamas which consisted of an old shirt she stole from you which practically devoured the girl’s figure. You couldn’t help but grin at the sight of her in your clothing.
“How’re you feeling now?” Tara asks as she sits down near your head once again, you look up at the sitting girl with a smile.
“You never answered my question.” You tell her, completely ignoring her question. The Carpenter sister faintly cocks her head to the side with confusion clear in her eyes. “If you’d be a good match for me.” You add as you blink slowly at her.
Tara’s breath hitches. Her eyes averted from yours to look at the doorway. “Do you still feel high from the painkillers?” She questions back.
You giggle as you nodded your head, raising your hand and hovering your index finger over your thumb. “Just a tiny bit.” Tara scoffed a laugh as she nodded her own head weakly, finally looking back into your eyes with hers.
“Then you probably won’t remember this in the morning then.” She mumbles mostly to herself with a smile. Tara sighs as she leans down to give a soft kiss to your forehead, your ears burn at the feeling as butterflies erupt in your stomach at the feeling of Tara’s unbelievably soft lips.
“If you remember that in the morning I’ll tell you.” She whispers against your temple before she pulls away, making you frown. Tara gets up from the bed and retreats back to the door making you even more confused.
As if reading your thoughts Tara leans against the doorway, the light from behind her shining around her figure. “I’m sleeping on the couch tonight and don’t even bother trying to make me sleep in your bed since you need the space with the brace.”
You let out a huff at that, not agreeing with Tara’s words at all. You hear her chuckle as she pushes herself off the doorway. “Goodnight, Y/n.” She says.
“I’ll remember in the morning.” You say confidently as you lay your head back down on the pillow, your eyes lingering on Tara still in the doorway. “I hope so.” Tara whispers before exiting the room and closing the door shut silently.
“Me too.”

saige’s terrortober presents…
future
seeing how good tetsuro is with kids has you wanting him to put one in you.
camp counselor!tetsuro kuroo x fem!reader
contents/warnings: breeding, unprotected doggystyle, vaginal fingering, kitten and mama petnames, mentions of marriage and babymaking, no pregnancy reader is on birth control, reader and kuroo are in college and work at a camp
wc: 1.4k
18+ MINORS DNI
the crisp fall air felt even more refreshing at night. the changing colors surrounded the camp in pretty hues of orange and red, matching the warm flames crackling away in the middle of the circle. storytimes are firepit were always a hit during the fall season, when the camp operated more as a babysitting service for couples on a date night rather than the usual summer sleepaway. it was honestly nice, allowing you to keep your counselor job into the start of the semester without having to work as many hours so you had time for your coursework.
the convenience wasn’t the only thing you loved, though.
“the group inched closer to the closet, flashlights held tight in their hands as they crept through the dark,” kuroo narrated, voice projecting so every kid listening in could hear.
you smiled at the way your boyfriend had them all on the edge of their seat, everyone’s undivided attention on the rooster head as he told his tale. he knew exactly when to pause for dramatic effect or when to emphasize a certain point. it was honestly impressive how great of a storyteller he was.
“they finally reached the door, turning the knob slowly and opening the door with a loud creak only to find…a report card! full of f’s!”
the kids all laughed, seemingly amused with the funny twist kuroo chose to end his story with. he didn’t want to send the kids back to their homes too scared, now. you chuckled along with them, heart feeling all warm watching the way he interacted with the children.
in your three years of dating, it was not lost on you how naturally amazing kuroo was with kids. he always treated them with the same kindness and respect he would give an adult, and you could see the content smile that would come onto his face whenever a youngster would engage in conversation with him.
not only was it precious, but it was honestly attractive. you were nearing the end of your college years, graduation on the horizon, and he’d already brought up the m word multiple times- not to mention you caught him studying the sizes of your rings that one time. while you told him not to rush anything, you knew he was the one you were going to marry. not only that, but this was the man that would most likely be fathering your children, and every time you saw him bring a smile to a kid’s face, it just reminded you of how amazing of a dad he was going to be.
and that made you want him so much.
knowing that he would take such good care of you and your potential babies drove you up the wall, wishing you could skip to your white picket fence era despite telling him that the two of you were young and didn’t need to be in a hurry.
kuroo caught you staring at him from across the firepit and sent you his signature grin, and you had to resist the urge to press your thighs together, knowing that this wasn’t the place.
the thoughts were still shuffling around in your mind when kuroo drove the two of you back to his apartment later, shift finally over now that all of the children had been picked up by their guardians. visions were dancing across your brain of him gently rocking a little baby, giving piggyback rides to a toddler, teaching a child how to spike a volleyball.
your boyfriend had noticed you were much more quiet than usual but chose not to question it. he figured you would talk once the two of you got home.
the elevator trip once you arrived was silent, and kuroo was starting to worry that there really was something bothering you.
so imagine his surprise when your lips were crashing against his the second he locked his front door, smaller hands gripping his shoulder and pulling him down to your height. his eyes went a little wide in surprise before he closed them and melted into the kiss, never one to look a gift horse in the face.
you pulled away to gasp for air and he grinned, bringing a thumb up to press against your bottom lip.
“what’s gotten into you, kitten?”
nothing could prepare him for what you said next, your eyes glassy and breath labored.
“wanna have a baby with you.”
now wasn’t the time, both of you knew that, and it was mainly just the lust talking at the moment. however, the idea still filled both of you with a sense of excitement and adrenaline. you were on birth control, but a little practice for the real deal in the future couldn’t hurt, right?
you felt his large hands snake under your t-shirt, forehead coming to rest against yours.
“is that right? my pretty girl wants to become a mommy?”
you nodded. “wanna make you a daddy.”
he hummed at that, beginning to kiss you once more as he backed you towards his bedroom, tugging both of your shirts off in the process. each of you were shedding your clothes, nude as can be by the time you reached the bed.
kuroo gave you one final kiss before commanding you to get on the bed.
“all fours.”
you did as you were told, keeping your ass towards him and arching the way he liked. you heard him step towards you and almost cried when you felt his fingers teasing at your entrance.
he slowly pumped his index and middle in and out of you, amazed at how wet your cunt already was. how long had you been wanting this?
not in the mood to waste time, you craned your neck to look at him, a desperate look in your eyes.
“inside, tetsu! want you inside now!”
he normally would refuse, insisting on prepping you. but tonight you had asked for a baby. you asked for a baby as if you knew about the endless dreams and fantasies in his head of you with a sweet little bump on your belly.
he’d give into your plea to forego foreplay tonight, but only this once. only because you managed to hit him where it really hurts.
the moan that tore from your throat as he split you open was the neediest he’d ever heard, and he wasted no time in starting to cant his hips as deep as possible. you were mewling, trying to push back to meet his thrusts each time, the want to be filed fogging your mind.
“so good! so good!”
you felt his hand between your shoulder blades, pressing down to arch your back even more. he groaned as he started to hit even further down in your walls, as if he was trying to get as close to your cervix as he could.
“good girl, such a good fucking girl for me.”
he didn’t think he’d ever felt your pussy grip him this tight. you were going to milk him for everything he was worth, and he honestly couldn’t wait.
you felt him lean over you, his chest against your back as his hot breath fanned against your ear.
“gonna be the prettiest mama ever. can’t wait to see how beautiful you look carrying my baby.”
you whined at his words.
“baby! want your baby, tetsu! want it so bad!”
“fuck.”
your cries had him pistoning into you even faster, so ready to give into your pleas and grant you your wish. maybe not today, but someday.
the coil in his stomach had grown so taught, and from the way your thighs were shaking, he knew yours had, too. he brought his thumb to your clit, knowing it would be the last shove you needed to tumble over the edge with him.
“where do you want it, kitten?”
he already knew the answer.
“inside! inside inside inside, please!”
one last rub at your sensitive nub had the wave of pleasure crashing over you, your orgasm sending kuroo into his own as he spilled his cum deep into your cunt. you’d never felt so full in your life.
you slumped against the bed, boneless. you heard kuroo chuckle behind you and felt a kiss pressed to the crown of your head.
“come on, mama,” kuroo said. “don’t go tapping out on me just yet.”

"Whats your favorite scary movie?"
n.o.t.e.s - 🌊Randy is seriously underrated, like give him some love <3
w.a.r.n - 🌀 penetration, oral (m receiving) p in v, creampies, non-con to dub-con, protected sex.
p.a.i.r.i.n.g - 🌠Randy Meeks x Ghostface!female reader
w.c. - 1.7k
Tumblr media
The phone ranged throughout the Meek's residents. Randy was home alone, the perfect time for you to sneak up on him and ruin his geek logic.
It was the perfect time to use your new voice changer to suit your character; it was easier than the boys. It was a more feminine, high-pitched voice, but it was still tangible to hide your identity and gender; it was sexier. It suited your character. Billy and Stu were questioning the change, but you managed to persuade them.
It was the perfect time to at least kill him but in a way that he'll never forget; you were gonna wear black lingerie over the already black cloak, and the mask would be better soak in his dork blood.
You hid a hunting knife to a butcher knife inside your cloak, turning on your voice changer.
As the phone ranged, you saw Randy pick it up, muttering a "Hello?"
"Hello, handsome!" you said seductively through the line as you saw him puzzled by the simple that came out of your mouth.
"Who's this?" Randy asked curiosity evident in his voice.
"Your secret admirer," you said, as you played with the phone cord, "My secret admirer?" he repeated your sentence.
"Your more handsome than you think, baby~."
"Is this a prank, Stu," he dismissed whatever you said as you saw him got angry through the window from his stance.
"I'm not Stu, darling."
"I swear to god Stu, if this a fucking prank, I swear"
"IM NOT FUCKING, STU DUMBASS," you yelled through the phone, "I'm more than that, Randy."
"Whatever, I'm just gonna hang up the phone-"
"Hang up the phone, and I'll slice your throat open just like fucking Casey."
"Wanna play a game?"
"Do I even have a choice?" Randy muttered
"You don't, baby~" it was amusing seeing Randy in fear; it made you feel arousal.
"I'll make the genre about Horror movies, since your such a horror geek"
"Question 1, What is Danny's nickname in the shinning?"
"It's Tony"
"Wow, You really do know your stuff."
"Question 2, In Sleepaway Camp, What was Angela original name?"
"Peter"
"Oh my, I can see why they can you such a geek," you giggled,
"Okay, Last Question Mister, Where am I?"
"Wait what?" you heard the fear evident in his voice, "Where am I Randy~"
"How the fuck did you know my name?" he asked as you saw him looking around him and in the rooms.
"Answer the fucking question, Randy."
"I don't know where you are, psycho. Whatever it is, I'm calling the police"
"They will never make it in time, babe."
That was the last time you said before hanging up the phone. You pulled down the generator, cutting off all the light sources in his house. It was an eerily sight; you saw his face plastered with fear.
The perfect opportunity to kill; everywhere was dark, pitched black.
You grabbed your knife, doubled, wheeling both of your weapons, walking down the hallway; it was obvious that your little Randy was hiding.
You walked into the living room, wheeling your knifes in a circular motion. "Come on, Randy~."
"Where are you?" you spoke through your voice changer; turning your body around, you heard his heavy breathing. Stepping forward near where he was.
"I found you, Randy~," you said, throwing one of your blades at Randy before he dodged it and started running off. You pulled off the thrown knife that landed in the wall, forceful with your leg.
"Come on, Randy. I don't like to play with my toys before killing them~" you cooed out. You followed him upstairs, quickly looking around at the surrounding before destroying some doors.
"Come on, Randy. I don't wanna fuck around, just come out and fight like fucking man," you yelled, your voice getting erratic by the second. You started chopping down the doors, turning around before your lungs were contradicted from oxygen, as you turned your head around to see Randy; he was close to unmasking you before kicking him in the knee, taking him by surprise, and then kicking him in the face.
Successfully getting him on the floor, straddling him with your legs, before swinging your knife at him, before he dodged your violent strikes, kneeing you right in the abdomen, making you fall on the floor, dropping your weapons.
Holding your abdomen, groaning in pain. "Y-you bastard" Before you regain your balance, He pins your arms on the floor.
His heavy breathing on your cheek, you straddled him between your legs, trying to get him off you. "I-i'm going to fucking kill you," you barked at him.
"Not when your in fucking jail," he yelled out.
"Like hell," you manage to knee him, picking up your weapons and straddling him forcefully, "Im going to make sure you'll have a horrible death, putting up your guts like Christmas lights, bitch" holding up your knife over your head.
Before you could, you felt something hard on your nether regions. You were taken back and lowered your weapons. "You're getting hard off of this you sick bastard," you said with a smile in your voice.
He didn't respond to your teasing; you saw a faint blush on your cheeks.
You hooked your weapon back on in your cloak. "If you do a favor for me, I'll keep you alive," you lean in, whispering into his ear, grinding down on him.
He remained silent, the tension between you both growing by the second before he hesitantly shook his head.
"Good Boy~" you cooed at him
You slide back, pulling down his pants, getting a glimpse of his hard cock and wet stain staining his briefs. "You really did get hard off of this" you teased.
His face was red, pure red.
Before pulling down his briefs, his length sprang up, his precum dripping down his shaft. He was medium size, not average though, but overwhelming big.
"I wasn't expecting this from a virgin, big though~," you said, cocking your head to the side getting a glance at his red face and whimpering.
"Close your eye, Randy, don't peek. You don't want me to kill Ran" Your comment seemed to bring him back, as he immediately closed his eyes from the threat before you wrapped a blindfold on his face.
You took off your mask, laying it on the side. Combing back your hair with your fingers. Jerking him down and up, his whimpering coming out of his lips. The pace of your hand was unbearably slow as more whimpers and moaning came out of his lips.
More precum was drooling out from his length before you started playfully licking the tip of his cock. Sucking on the tip, swirling your tongue around it.
Before you took him inside your mouth, swirling around before bobbing up an down on his cock, holding his hips down.
"F-fuck" he moaned out.
You forced yourself down, gagging on his length. Your eye is watering before withdrawing. Your saliva connected to the tip of his length before unbuttoning the top of your cloak, unclasping the top of your bra.
Putting your boobs between his length, holding both sides of your tits, lapping at his length, sucking down on him, before jerking him off with your tits. You glanced up from him, and through your eyelashes, you saw him gripping the carpet, the feeling between your legs pulsing.
His legs were trembling, and you felt his cock twitching inside your mouth before you felt hot, salty liquid flowing into your mouth, before swallowing down his cum.
As Randy groaned out from his orgasm. You still felt his length still hard after his orgasm. "God, your still hard?" you smiled.
You took off your panties, positioning yourself over him as you sink onto his length. As his cock split you open, Randy groaned from tightening cunt.
You placed your hand on his shoulders, riding down on him, as you rocked your hips on his. You bit down on your lips, hiding your moans from being audible. Leaning down on holding his shoulders, biting on his neck, your bites blossoming into fresh love bites.
"D-damn," he groaned.
"You feel better when you are inside of me," you purred; you felt his hand around your hips, and your hips and his collided as he plunged his dick inside you.
As his pace turned erratically, feeling his balls slapping onto your ass as he thrust in, as you broke out from biting your lips as your moan ranged out. Feeling twitching inside you, you felt your orgasm near, his hands gripping onto your hips, forcefully thrusting inside you.
You felt warm liquid pouring into you as your sense of relief washed over you, seeing white.
His groaning and your moaning came in sync, as you took out his limp length from you, his cum escaping from your cunt. "God, you did well" you cooed, as you put on your panties back on.
Buttoning on your cloak, wearing back your mask, Crouching down to his level, "I guess you broke a rule; you had sex~" you smiled as you took off his blindfold from him; his face was still fully red; you got up and broke the window jumping out of the house, giving him a wave.
Randy's face was still red, as he just thought what he just did.
Tumblr media
Walking down the school hallway wearing your backpack, going to the area where your friend's group was, near the lockers. "Wassup guys," you said gleefully.
You saw Billy glaring at you, maybe because you went off the plan; Stu was busy flirting with Tatum. You glance to the side, seeing Randy plastered with a smile, "Whatcha smile for Ran?" you ask, cocking your head.
"Did you finally get a girlfriend~" you teased, pointing at him.
"Kind of" He rubbed the back of his neck; after he said, everyone got silent just staring at him. "Randy got a girlfriend; how much did you pay her" Stu teased.
"Nothing, dipshit," Randy snapped, getting a laugh from Stu. "I'm surprised you got someone, Randy," Tatum said with a surprised face.
"Surprised as to what he does in his free time," Billy muttered, earning him a nudge from his girlfriend, Sidney.
There was tension in the air as you broke the ice, "Well, it's good that Randy is finally being a man," you said as you ruffled his hair. You glance to see him with a red hue on his face. I guess he still remembers that night.

The winding road on the way to camp was claustrophobic, your first year driving there yourself. You prayed you were still on the right route, your phone’s GPS struggling to update after losing service a while back.
The sight of the endless rows of green trees was becoming redundant, the charm of the wilderness already wearing off on you upon the second hour of your journey. Eyes on the road, you slurped on the blue raspberry Slusho you picked up at a gas stop mid-journey. Savouring the cool syrup induced taste in the summer heat, windows down and car speakers blaring.
A large wooden sign came into view, confirming your path and indicating the end of the long journey. Engraved on the sign was:
CAMP KANDAR
est. 1959
You have gone past this sign every year since you were 8 years old. Initially reluctant to attend, you grew to truly love the place. You giggled at the thought that they almost had to pull you kicking and screaming from the car when you realised you would be remaining there for a little over a month the first ever time you arrived. How times had changed seeing as you were now willingly returning as an adult.
Camp Kandar was just outside Los Angeles, a safe hub to send your kids away to learn what the outside world was like at a reasonable price.
If you imagine what your ideal slasher sleepaway camp would look like from a 70s horror film, Kandar probably looked exactly like it. You were surprised that in all the years of running it no one had actually died there, as far as you were aware anyway.
There were rumours and myths of the camp being built over an ancient castle. Or maybe it was a burial ground? It changed every few years when new counselors got to tell their own version of the myth to the young campers.
This actually would be your first year as a counselor at the camp, it was either this or spending more time slaving away at your job in the local Henrietta’s pizza. You could no longer bare the daily heat and stench of the pizza kitchen, especially during summer.
Hands from distant figures you couldn’t make out waved at you on arrival. Your car finishes its journey in the parking lot beside a Buick Roadsmaster at the child and parent drop off point. You furrow your brows, the campers weren’t meant to arrive for another 2 days.
Exiting the car, you take a moment to breathe in and embrace your new home for the next few weeks, your summer sanctuary for over the past decade greeting you like an old friend. Thick, moist summer sweetness so rife in the air that it makes you feel almost sick to your stomach.
The first thing on your itinerary was to collect your uniform from the camp reception, which you were sure you’d be manning at some point during your time working there. You thought of all the things you’d be able to do now as a counselor, buzzing around the prospect of sneaking out late to whatever party they’d always throw near the old cabin. None of the younger campers were invited, only hearing fabled tales of wild goings on from the distant music and laughter in the night.
Camp director Williams definitely knew about the extracurricular goings on at the camp, and while he took no nonsense, he knew that kids just want to have fun. It’s what made him such a great leader, although the shotgun on the wall above his desk definitely kept campers on edge.
With your case trailing behind you and your backpack hanging casually from your shoulder, you set off towards the camp reception. The building clearly needed a refresher, certain letters in the sign slightly faded due to time and the wood of the steps creaking to a cautious extent under your feet.
Doors swing open, eyes flicker to you. A woman with long red hair stands at the desk with her back to you, obviously in distress talking to director Williams, her arms flailing with hushed whispers.
“Oh great. And you’re here, now. My day just gets better.”
And him.
You turn around and there he is, bags slung on the floor, leaning against the wall with a Nintendo Switch in hand.
Danny Bixler-Sutherland, your worst nightmare.
You had met him that first ever year at camp, becoming close friends after you were assigned to share a bunk. But something shifted in both of you, you were unsure when it all really started. You were both naturally competitive at the group activities from a young age and usually always sorted onto different teams, you always wondered if your competitive playing style drove a wedge in between you both.
Director Williams places a hand on her arm in comfort, “Please, we’ve known each other for how many years now? You know you can call me Ash, Ellie. We can just get bunks sorted for them until moving in day and then sort out proper accommodation. Means they’re not alone in the cabin.” He began to walk towards you, shifting the woman to face you. It was Danny’s mother, Ellie with a striking hair dye job.
Danny had always been in your dormitory growing up, until he came out and his mom fought tooth and nail to get him transferred to the boys dorm. He was popular around camp and people adjusted to the news quickly. But, there were of course a handful of dickheads that treated him like shit because of it. Director Williams put great measures in place to ensure none of them bothered Danny again, some of them being kicked out of camp. You had always wondered if that shotgun had been involved in Williams’ interrogation of them, you hoped it had.
Ever since the summer when the championship was determined to be a tie after you and Danny broke into a fight during the last challenge, you’d been at each other’s necks at almost every possible second.
However, deep down you had an inkling that it all really had something to do with a night that same year, around five or six years ago when a small group of the pre-teen campers, including the both of you, snuck out to camp in the woods.
It had been a largely uneventful night, the excitement in the moment mainly fuelled by the breaking of rules. By the end of the night it had become apparent that despite the bunks in their dorms not being the comfiest, they sure beat the makeshift tents and dusty forest floor.
But the shift in the air was clear. You went into those woods that night, hoping for a last chance of that closeness so present in your youth. By the time you left in the morning and returned to your respective dorms, you barely spoke.
Both of you may have been at each other's necks at the best of times, but insulting each other's appearances or anything personal was a line you both silently agreed to never ever cross. You remembered overhearing bitchy whispers from some of the girls in the cafeteria about him when he first appeared with short hair pre-transition, and you took great pleasure in cutting their hair that night when they were sleeping.
When the girls reported you to the director he had simply shrugged and said, “Talk shit, get hit girls. First rule in the book.”
And it’s not like he wouldn’t do the same for you. Some of the boys had been teasing you, more specifically teasing your figure, behind your back. Low and behold, you had heard that Danny took the charge when standing up for you. It was little things like that that meant you could never truly hate him, and same for him about you.
It was kind of like, the only people that could be mean to you both were the two of you. It was endearing in a way that you would rather die than to admit outloud, a sign of respect from your former friendship.
“Is this a bad time?” You question Danny, feeling like you’ve walked in on something you shouldn’t have but not wanting to pester director Williams until he ends his conversation. “Every place you exist in is a bad time.” Danny remarks, concentration still fully on the games console in front of him.
“That’s a low blow even for you, someone woke up on the wrong side of bed today, Mr Crankypants?” You retaliate, readjusting the weight of your backpack.
“You’re a little too old for camp, scout.” That was his nickname for you ever since you were younger. Without context it seemed almost endearing, but the reality of it drove you crazy.
In an attempt to impress an older counselor years ago, you had told a little white lie that you were a scout with all the training. This was a lie you kept up for almost the full time at camp, and doubled down on it on most days. On a hike, one kid began to have an asthma attack and the responsibility of helping them was promptly put on you by the panicking teen counselor.
Luckily, the kid was completely fine but it became apparent to everyone that you not only were not a scout but had zero knowledge in first aid training. No one had really cared, the counselor got in trouble for their negligence and own lack of first aid knowledge. Everyone went back to their normal jokes the next week after a spot of light torment from your fellow campers.
But you cared. It was just one of those borderline traumatic cringe moments in your life that you wish you could forget. And Danny, who was on the hike that day, knew that.
“Yeah I could say the same to you, DJ Dan.” He grimaced, slamming the console down on the reception desk.
“Jesus H Christ, how many years now with you both and you’re still doing this shit?” Ash wiped his brow of sweat, Ellie’s eyes fluttering between the two of you.
“Hey, Y/N. Good summer?” She smiled. You’d known the woman in passing for the same time you’d known Danny. She had definitely been on the receiving end of many phone calls about your behaviour towards each other, and your perhaps even worse behaviour towards others while acting in defence of one another.
Smiling and nodding back to her, “Yeah great so far, thanks - yours?” Despite trying to keep her smile, for a second her face flickered with something unreadable, Danny nervously shifted, eyes bouncing to his sisters in the corner of the room. They were so quiet you had failed to notice them sitting there.
“Same old, I guess.” Her hands clutching her car keys tighter. “How are your parents?”
If you were being honest, you didn’t know the answer to that.
“They’re fine. Same old, I guess.” You gripped the strap of your backpack a little tighter too. Your parents, while not mega rich, had a good bit of money. Most of your life, you’d spent much of your time without them or with a nanny. Summer was great because it meant going on holiday with them somewhere, anywhere. Until they realised they could hire a nanny in the form of Camp Kandar for the entire summer that was far cheaper and even further away from them.
Ellie politely nodded, before approaching the girls. “It’s just two days extra, right? I’ll be there to pick you all up the first second I can and bring you home.” Bridget nods, the older of the two. Kassie looked pained for a moment. Danny began to walk over, finally leaving his haunt, sitting beside Kassie and holding her small hand in his own.
“But what’s gonna happen? Are we even gonna have a home?” The youngest Bixler sibling clung to a pole with a doll's head stuck on top of it, you elected to ignore it as Ash pulled you to the side.
“Here’s the uniform, good thing you got here when you did ‘cause you and Danny took the last of that size.” Your eyes widened at his statement as Ash continued on. Danny, still holding Kass’ hand, glared at you with a twisted smile.
This confirmed the worst, he wasn’t here for a brief visit to drop off his sisters like you’d prayed, he would be a camp counselor too.
“Rota will get sorted by tonight, but all that’s really needed is some clean up jobs around camp before we open. You’re sharing with Mia in Cabin 13.” Your face lit up. Like Danny, Mia and her older brother David had been attending the camp since you were young. David, being two years older than her, became a counselor when he turned 18. You didn’t know if she would be returning this summer to do the same, the last time you’d texted she seemed reluctant to return.
“Great. Happy to do that.” Danny rolled his eyes at your enthusiasm. “Suck up.” He muttered. You chose to ignore him.
You set off towards Cabin 13, ensuring you got the first pick of the beds.
The cabin itself was small and pokey, compared to some of the other larger counselor cabins which resembled camper quarters with bunks. Considering the added privacy that came with having only one roommate, especially a roommate you were close with, the size of the cabin was fine with you.
When you arrived, you found the cabin cork board already decorated with pictures and the left bed claimed with a sports bag emptied out on the sheets. You couldn’t even waste time being dismayed that you got there second, not when you could hear Mia singing in the shower. You began unpacking everything you could and changing into your new uniform, the faster you got settled in the quicker you could get on with the fun activities.
When Mia had eventually got out of the bathroom, dark long hair damp with her new uniform on (a green and white t-shirt with the camp logo on it), she squealed as soon as she saw you.
Mia Allen was 5’2 and looked probably around 7 pounds soaking wet, give or take. Ever since she was little she’d been much smaller than the others, but what she lacked in size she made up for in her quick wit and snappy attitude.
And plus, it certainly helped that she had an older brother that could only be described as totally swoon worthy.
While at times sardonic and off putting, she was your best friend at the camp and had been for many years. Both of you being placed in the same dorm each year led to a sense of familiarity with you both. You knew each other’s habits better than anyone.
Others viewed her as troubled, with rumours of past years involving her using drugs on camp grounds or going apeshit on other campers - but you knew better. She had experienced her fair share of bad times in her life, mostly as a way of dealing with her sick mom, should she be punished for them forever? You definitely didn’t think so.
“Thank GOD Williams listened to my roomie request, I almost thought I was gonna get stuck with Olivia.” She bounces on you and embraces you within a death grip.
“I thought you and Olivia were friends?” The older girl was a medical student now but still returned each summer to help, she’d hung around you both growing up. She loved to follow the rules, with no exception or nuance to them. However, Olivia was without a doubt the most responsible of all the counselors and it meant the staff didn’t need to train her in first-aid every year.
“Um, yeah, of course we are. But I’d rather choke on my own vomit than have little miss campus police as my bunkmate. She does her own room inspections every week, David says no one even asks her to do them.” Mia rolls her eyes, going over to her bedside cabinet to put some perfume on.
“Fair enough, I’m so happy to see you. I seriously thought I’d be the only one coming back this year.” Running a hand through your hair, you watched her lean into your shared mirror and put on her earrings.
“I know, you need to tell me everything that’s happened since I last saw you. Oh my god, so much shit has happened with my mom it’s fuckin crazy, man.” She began to apply lipgloss. “Tell me about it on the way to initiation, I didn’t realise the time already!” You grab her wrist, pulling her from the cabin.
“Slow the fuck down! Listen, they won’t start without us, and we’re like two minutes away.” Mia halted your speed, wrapping an arm around your shoulder.
In the distance you could see Danny and some of the others heading towards the campfire area, or as the campers called it, The Pavilion. His head flew back with laughter at something a girl you didn’t recognise said.
“Not you literally gawking at your boy-toy.” Mia murmured, making you turn to look at her with furrowed brows. “What?”
“Yeah, you heard me. And don’t think I’m talking about Eric or Pablo, ‘cause I’m not.” She pulled out a carton of cigarettes from the pocket of her shorts, offering you one. You politely turn it down with a shake of the hand, “Maybe later.”
“This whole uhhhh I hate you so much uhhhhh I hate you too charade is so 2018. Like I wish you’d just give it a rest already and fuck it out.” Mia struggles to keep the cigarette in her mouth as she acts out her impressions of you both before lighting it. You almost choke on her words.
“What the fuck, Mia! Not cool!“
“I am literally right! Don’t think I’ve forgotten that whole truth or dare bullshit from last year.” The smaller girl took a long drag and shifted her weight on her feet, hand resting on a tree beside her.
“You shouldn’t be smoking out in the open like this - at least do it in the cabin with the shower on.” You roll your eyes and begin to power ahead to the Pavilion. “A-HA, don’t try and change the subject with me missy because you know I am not that bitch to be messed with.” Mia begins to chase after you, almost tripping while stealing glances around to make sure no one actually catches her in the act.
“Mia, I think you should quit while you’re ahead. You know my feelings towards that boy and you know none of them are pleasant.” Halting and turning to face her, she does the same with slightly more unbalanced, disjointed movements.
She takes a puff, “Yeah, I thought I knew your feelings. And then you said what you said.” She wasn’t giving up easily.
“I don’t remember what I said.”
“Bull-fucking-shit, this is like pathological liar level. You’re gaslighting me, man!” She waves her arms around manically with wide eyes, obviously trying to tease you. Giving her one last begging look, she stubs the cigarette out. “Fine. But we’re talking about this later.”
With that, she powers on in front of you. It’s as if the nicotine has given her enough energy to run a marathon as she determinedly stomps towards the campfire.
That game of truth or dare had been a drunken mishap at the secret end of year party. You had both managed to score an invite thanks to David, and by association Danny had been invited by Eric. Olivia was too buzzed on wine coolers to feel the need to kick you out, so you managed to spend most of the night there. Mia’s drunk alter-ego ‘the Abomination’ eventually appeared which led to you and David escorting her back to the girls dorm in the early hours.
You had been asked by a drunken Mia, the absolute fucking menace that she was, if you had to spend a night in bed with any of the boys who would it be? Immediately without thinking, in your own intoxicated state, you answered Danny.
Before you could even realise the deeper implications of the question, you immediately attempted to justify your answer by stating that you had shared a bunk for years and didn’t kill each other during that time.
She had teased you in front of the entire group, in your own state of embarrassment you had failed to notice Danny’s wide eyes and rosy cheeks.
But the teasing was over quickly with Mia throwing her entire guts up in front of everyone, leading David to jump back onto his feet and promptly drag her from the scene, requesting that you help carry her legs.
What you’d failed to tell Mia, tell anyone for that matter, is that despite your answer to her question, you and David shared a kiss.
It was behind the cabin after you both dragged her back in her drunken state, you hoped all its occupants would be sound asleep. He’d looked at you with a glimmer in his eye, his testing patience, seeing who would make the first move.
Both of you had been dangerously towing a flirtatious line all summer, a line that you’d been tiptoeing on for probably the past nine years prior.
It had never ever been a possibility before, you were his kid sister’s best friend. You were just you. But here he was looking at you like that.
Do you regret it in hindsight? Sure, but you hardly remember it. Your heart was beating so fast you thought it might break out of your chest like that little creature from Alien. The moist summer air of the early morning clinging to your skin, a strong hand on the low of your back. Pressed tight chest to chest, a forbidden taste.
You jumped apart at the sound of the snapping of sticks by god knows what.
You parted with wide eyes and uncertainty rising in your chest. He placed a gentle hand on your cheek.
“I’ll speak to you tomorrow, yeah?” You nodded, a smile growing. The start of something new blossoming.
David and Mia were gone by the time you woke up, you had assumed David had driven them off specifically so you both didn’t need to address any drunken awkwardness from the previous night. Mia wouldn’t have opposed, with her hangover probably kicking in tenfold.
All that was left in his departure was a letter saying that he’d see you next summer and that you should call him when you got home if you wanted to pick up where you left off, with a phone number left under the statement. You text the number, leaving him with a message.
hey david,
last night was a mistake. it was a plain and simple heat of the moment mistake - as much as I’d like to start again, i can’t do that to mia.
You sent ‘i’m sorry.’ when you didn’t receive a reply after a month.
Quite frankly, you were dreading seeing him far more than Danny. With Danny at least, you knew that whatever you had said last year had gone right past his head (or atleast you thought it had). Danny wouldn’t pass up an opportunity to make you squirm, surely?
Honestly, now that you had been able to think it through - you wouldn’t be opposed to starting where you left off with David, the whole him being your friend’s brother thing aside. He was handsome, kind, and popular around camp. He’d looked out for you since, like, forever and you trusted him. If you were searching for a summer fling David would certainly be your go-to.
But whatever. If nothing happened, nothing happened, especially after the text you sent him. You could play this totally cool, right? It was just David. Stupidly hot David, with his constant tan and his almost annoyingly unwavering warm demeanour. You still remembered the first time you saw that smile. You were eight and he was ten, you fell down and scraped your knee during a group activity. He ran to you before any counsellors could even get to you.
“You’re okay.” A hand reached out, you grabbed it. And there was that smile. A smile you could trust. Yeah, maybe you were gonna be okay.
It was undeniable how he made you feel. Your legs turned to jelly everytime you laid eyes on him, you felt like such a ditz. But the presence of Mia complicated everything. You couldn’t do that to her. It would be too weird. Unless, you kept it a secret? A secret summer fling could be exactly what you need. Why did you have to send that damn text?
But then ultimately, he was just safe. Despite his attractiveness, all of the passion of the fling would be mostly fuelled by his relation to Mia, and if you’re being honest that was a line you did not want to cross with her. If she even found out that you both had kissed it’d be game over.
You’re snapped out of your thoughts by Mia calling your name.
“Are you even listening? Wait up, I have little legs!” She was significantly behind you now, struggling to keep up with your pace as you unconsciously powered ahead in front of her. “Sorry Mia, my inner volume was too loud, I guess.”
She squints, smirks before tapping your arm. “Yeah and we all know exactly who you’re thinking about.” Your eyes widen.
“Dann-”
“No.”
Barging past her again, the Pavilion now in sight, both of you being the only two left to arrive.
While the overall area has rows of structured seating comparable to wooden bleachers facing a stage, for more intimate occasions such as this there were stools placed closer to the stage.
“Fashionably late as always, you too. First strike.” Ash attempted to chase away flies with his prosthetic hand, shooting her a stern look. “Hey- what the hell? What happened to a friendly camper hello?” She resigned herself to the first tree stump available in front of you, beside her brother. You could only see his back and still you could feel the butterflies going wild inside you.
“You forfeit that when you come back here as a counselor. You’re being paid for this, this is a job. Stay. On. Time.” You swallow, taking the seat near Danny. He’s whispering something to Eric, but your eyes still meet.
Neither of you break but both of you wonder who will be the first to.
You pick up on things that have changed since last summer. His hair, chestnut again after a brief bleach blonde stint. You didn’t know what he suited more, you liked both.
You almost mentally slapped yourself for thinking that. But it was hard to not think how actually kinda attractive Danny was in staring competition moments like this. His eyes had such a mischievous glint in them that begged you for more, egged you on like what you were doing was so, so wrong.
Your cheeks grow heated and you can’t bare to stare any longer, losing the silent game.
“Okay, Bridget and Kassie will be staying here with us a few days early. That’s okay. Just make sure you’re on best behaviour at all time big kids, make sure you’re doing your job and looking after the little ones.” Bridget rolls her eyes at his words. She’s fifteen and thinks she can take on the world single handedly. Kassie looks a little less sure, resigning herself to staring at the ground and kicking some wood chippings at her feet.
“Cheryl, you wanna take it from here?” Director Williams turns to his sister, who appears by his side. “Sure thing, I’ve sorted the camp rota.”
You glance back at Danny, his eyes still on you. He smirks. You feel like you’re on fire. Turning away from him again to look where you had been so desperately avoiding, you see David glance at you. He smiles softly when he realises you’ve caught him, sending a slight wave. You don’t hesitate to return it, hearing a Danny sounding scoff coming from the opposite direction.
Cheryl goes over your duties for the next few weeks, you’re placed in arts and crafts with Mia and Danny. And a new girl who’d never attended this camp prior, Natalie. You assumed it was the girl walking with Danny earlier, now sitting timidly beside Eric.
Great.
Mia you could handle, and you could probably even handle Danny alone too. But Mia’s unrelenting urge to tease you for your misspoken words and Danny’s eyes that seemingly bore into your soul at every chance was going to be a challenge in combination.
Your face must’ve immediately read your exasperation, as Cheryl reassured “Don’t worry, usually it’ll just be two of you in for activities. You guys will be mixed and matched.” Your shoulders sunk in relief, not even realising how tense you had suddenly become.
Your ear is met with the soft whisper of Danny. “Don’t look too excited.”
“Bite me.” You hiss back, he grins with wild eyes, like he enjoys the way you’re speaking to him.
“Hey assholes! And I can call you that now because you’re adults. I better see no fighting, no nothing, or else this year - got it?” More Ash than director Williams warns, you nod.
“I’ll try sir, but she’s the issue.” The boy points at you, false sincerity in his voice. You bite your tongue, giving Ash a look that portrays your frustration.
“Whatever. Seriously, I’m watching you two.” Ash points at the both of you, Danny rolls his eyes. Eric and Mia make a quiet ‘ooooooooh’ noise and then laugh at their accidental timing.
Eric was the same age as David, and his childhood best friend, although you had noticed that they had drifted apart. He was as sarcastic as they come, but knew when to shut up and be serious. He’d been growing out his hair for the past few summers, it now resting just at his collarbone.
He’d taken Danny under his wing when he got moved to the boy’s dorm, it was common that one would be seen the other around camp.
After a few more ground rules were laid out, Ash reminded you that you are now the adults in charge and that any responsibility will be put on you.
“Oh and by the way. This is Natalie, she’s new. I know you all grew up together but please make her feel welcome, yeah?” Cheryl put her hand on the girl’s shoulder, Natalie waving timidly.
She was so effortlessly pretty you didn’t know if you wanted to cry or roll your eyes.
With that, you were free to spend the last night free before your jobs started the next day. As everyone was departing, you notice David eyeing the new girl, who stands like a spare prick as Cheryl inaudibly talks to her. He leaves with Pablo and Olivia after taking a second glance.
There’s those damn butterflies again.
Mia wraps an arm around you and drags you in the opposite direction, heading to your own cabin. You pass Danny, who winks before sending you a sarcastic kiss. You respond with a middle finger.
The first few days go smoothly, managing to stay out of any drama. Everyone is seemingly too tired to really interact with each other outside of your shared meals in the mess hall, all of you still adjusting to being in a foreign home.
Drop off day was longer and more tedious than the previous days, an earlier rise than the already early mornings at Camp Kandar. Buses filling the parking lot, hurried parents ushering kids out of cars, kisses goodbye. A floury of campers old and new dragging their luggage behind them in the chaos of sorting cabins. Camp reception was even more packed than before with parents handing off medication and bus drivers piling up all the forgotten items from their respective vehicles.
When the kids arrived, you were kind of ecstatic, seeing everybody arrive from a different angle than you ever had before, remembering how nervous you had been each year on drop-off day.
The camp entrance itself, aside from the parking lot and reception, welcomed campers in with a large arch that displayed the camp’s name proudly. From here, past the reception, led to a large open ground shaped in a circle.
If you kept walking straight, the mess hall was in front with extra benches set up outside for the good weather. To the left, through the trees were the camper dorms. Scattered throughout the many acres, it was common for the little ones to get lost.
Just beyond that were the staff and counselor cabins, with Ash’s being the furthest out of them all. On the opposite end of the camp was the activity field and the lake. It was pretty simple to get around, but the prospect of getting lost in the surrounding woods was intimidating.
Bridget ran towards a group of teens, who welcomed her with open arms. It was odd to think that in a few years they potentially would be the camp counsellors, and you and your peers would be off in the world doing all types of grown up shit. Goodbye adolescence forever.
Your heart dropped when you saw Kassie standing to the side awkwardly, clutching her stick with the doll head on it. For the past few days she had kind of kept to herself while Bridget had helped with the bigger jobs setting up camp. Slowly approaching her, you decided to strike up a conversation.
“Cool doll, what’s it’s name?” You gently poked it, her face lighting up at someone talking to her. Because she was little, it was hard for her to be included like her older sister aside from odd jobs Ash would send her on. Things like sending her to the Pavilion to find the biggest pine cone, or seeing how many laps she could do around the activity grounds.
“Staffanie. I made her, so she can protect me, and scare off anything scary in the woods. Danny says there’s monsters here.” Kassie explains timidly, a shy smile growing slowly.
“She’s cool, hiya Staffanie.” You return the smile, she waves the doll head as if to make her say hello.
“She says hello back.” After a nice lull, she turns to watch a group of kids her own age stand and talk to each other, obviously knowing each other outside of camp.
“I was really scared my first year here too.” You bend down to get to her level. “Really?”
“Yeah, really, it was super hard at first. But then I met Mia and it was all okay.” The little girl looks doubtful. “I don’t know, I think people think I’m weird.”
“Well that makes two of us kiddo. Listen, you’ve got Danny and Bridget to help you out,” Before you can finish she interjects. “That doesn’t count, they're related to me.”
She was right technically. “Yeah, but they’re not required to be nice to you, are they? David and Mia are related and they barely hang out.” You point towards them, on opposite sides of the area, David calming down a crying mother clutching onto her uninterested child. Mia was poking the ground with a stick.
“I guess.” Kassie was still hesitant, head racing with thoughts of what was really going on back home. Her mom thought she’d done enough to protect her from the startling reality of the impending divorce, and in a way she had. Kassie was sure that everything would be fine between her parents, only really worrying about losing their family home.
But even the thought of being at this camp, making no friends and then coming back to nothing was terrifying to the young girl. And it was a reality that a girl her age shouldn’t have to face.
“Kassie, I’m gonna be brutally honest with you. I think you’re gonna have the best summer ever.”
After a moment, Kassie turned with a smile. “You really think so?” You couldn’t help but return it. “I know so, pal.”
It was harrowing, it was like seeing your younger self in a way. Coming here was no easy feat. Sure, the activities were nice and you settled in eventually, but that scary feeling doesn’t really go away even after all these years.
“I’m Kassie, by the way.”
“I’m Y/N.”
Her face lit up. “Wait, I know who you are!”
“Well we have spent the last few days together so I did hope that you would have known my name by now honestly-”
“You’re the girl Danny always talks about! You’re his friend!” Kassie kind of bounces around, her new found enthusiasm infectious but her statement alarming. Not wanting to burst her bubble after seeing her so gloom for the past few days, with a stiff smile you offer a nod.
“I remember all the stories from when you used to share a bunk! Wow, I hope I get a bunk mate just like you!” You aren’t quite sure what she’s talking about, as most of your time bunking with Danny involved arguing about his snoring and your constant shifting above him.
“Yeah, fingers crossed.” You mimicked your own words, she copied you.
“And I can teach them the secret bunk code that you taught Danny, ‘cause Danny taught me!” A stab in the heart. You’d forgotten about that.
You developed a quiet knocking, humming and scraping system to have conversations with each other. It’d been one of those silly kid things you just stop thinking about when you have your first kiss or learn to drive. You can’t really even remember what you used to talk about in the quiet moments of the night when you weren’t bickering.
“We taught each other, just like you and your bunk mate will make up new words. Just go with the flow and you’ll have a great time.”
Kassie nods, more than cheered up from the conversation. “I’ll remember that. Gosh, I hope I get put on your team for the games!”
“Yeah, me too kiddo.” A girl around Kassie’s age stands alone at the drop off point just beyond the arch of Camp Kandar. Her eyes scan the scene in front of her, campers overwhelmingly conversing in their individual cliques. Nudging Kassie, you point in her direction.
“Why not go say hi to her? I think it might be her first day too.” The youngest Bixler-Sutherland sibling nods, and takes a deep breath.
“Kass, if it doesn’t go well I’m right here.” You crouch to her level, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. You knew exactly what she was thinking right now, as if this one interaction would determine her ability to make friends this summer.
With one last optimistic look, she trots off with Staffanie in tow.
“You givin’ my sister your shitty advice?” Danny’s voice catches you off guard, him appearing behind you as you watch Kassie from afar.
“Better than anything you’ve offered her the past few days clearly.” You don’t bother to turn to look at him, but you can feel his chin almost hovering in the crook of your left shoulder. His body, while not at all touching yours, feels close.
“Ouch, scout. And here I thought you were giving me flirty eyes at the first meeting the other day.”
“You fucking wish, Bixler.” He seems unfazed at your use of only one of his last names. In the distance, Kassie seemed to be explaining Staffanie to the other girl, who giggled and pet the doll head awkwardly.
Turning your head to face him, you’re almost caught off guard at how close he is.
“Kassie was talking about all the stories you’ve been telling about me.” His eyes flash with alarm for a moment, you have to stop yourself from laughing at the sight. Danny’s attempt to catch you off guard disrupted by your own secret weapon.
“Just the shit from when we were kids, before you become an intolerable bitch.” He stepped back, strutting in front of you.
“Well atleast I’m a bitch and not a complete moron, like you.” He sucks in a breath and scoffs. “This moron’s gonna beat your ass in the challenge teams this year.”
“Not if we’re on the same team, dipshit.”
“Pablo told Eric who told me that you’re in red team. I’m blue team, scout.” He circles you like a shark smelling blood for the first time, your eyes stay trained on him.
“How the fuck does Pablo know? Why would director Williams or Cheryl put us on opposite teams? Isn’t that just begging for trouble?” Your hands raise to rest on your hips, fists clenching.
“‘Cause maybe Pablo’s tight with Ash and Ash sorts the teams ‘cause Cheryl does rota. I was in red team but Eric asked to swap places and I said yes so I could be on the opposite team from you.” This bastard, always testing you. Always looking for a fight. Always needing to win.
“Why the fuck would you do that?” Knuckles white, this was all going to backfire on you specifically.
His taunting grin begged you to lose your temper.
“‘Cause it makes us better. Why be just good at working together when we could be even better tearing each other apart?” There was that closeness thing again, him getting up in your personal space. This was all a stupid intimidation tactic and you weren’t going to let it slide.
“When director Williams calls it out he won’t let you switch, even if Eric asks.” Something was going on here, more than what he was letting on. His eyes take a dangerous glance at your lips, he was playing dirty.
It wasn’t like you thought of him in that way anyway, nor he with you surely. Ultimately, he infuriated you.
Though, anyone would admit he was in great shape. Chiselled jawline and soft blue eyes that would make anyone swoon. He was attractive and you had shared a bunk with him, it was inevitable you would potentially form a deep attachment to him, you supposed. It’s definitely not like you had thought about him in the heat of the night in the safety of your own room, miles and miles away from camp. It was a hundred percent not like you had ever, ever replayed your most heated debates in your head, thinking about how breathless he could make you feel.
Fuck Danny Bixler-Sutherland.
“Don’t be so sure, they can’t reject a team transfer as long as someone on the other team volunteers a switch, it's against camp rules.” He backed away, hands held up in surrender. That stupid fuckin grin still on his mouth.
“Plus, Mia would be a far better teammate than you.” And with that he leaves you.
You couldn’t get his words out of your head.
What the fuck was he planning? Would Eric stoop so low to be involved in some stupid plot to have you guys in prime fighting positions? What was he getting out of this?
Stumbling across the sea of new campers to get to Mia, a plan quickly trying to form in your head.
“Mia, I need to call in a favour.” She dropped the stick at the mention of her name, pretending that she had actually been busy the full time.
“Fuck no, baby.”
“Pretty, pretty please with a cherry on top?” Mia crossed her arms. “What is it?”
“You need to swap teams with me.”
“How do you know we’re on opposite teams?” Her position unchanging, eyes burning into your soul as if you were breaking the rules somehow.
“Danny might’ve let something slip, he’s in my team and wants to change with Eric so we can be competing, but I don’t wanna do that.” She glances over your shoulder at Danny’s current location, beginning to guide the campers to their assigned cabins.
“How does he know this?” You roll your eyes, scratching your forehead. “It’s a long story, but please Mia, I’m begging you - I need to beat him at his own game.”
Mia stands for a moment, watching the boy, before smiling and looking back at you.
“This is ‘cause you wanna spend more time with him isn’t it?”
“Whatever the fuck helps you sleep at night.” You cannot let her win this foolish debate she’s created in her head.
“Sure thing, I’ll swap I guess.”
You had completely zoned out of the induction campfire ceremony. It’s mandatory every year anyway, aimed at the campers specifically. You weren’t missing much. This team shit was driving you crazy, as soon as Ash coughed up that it was time for the counselor sorting ceremony you shot upright. Across the seating area you could see Eric nudge Danny, who barely acknowledged him.
“Okay guys, team red. Okay people here we go. Olivia, Y/N-”
“I wanna swap teams.” You stood up.
Some of the campers ooooooed at your exclamation, Olivia scoffed. “What’s so bad about my team?” You turned to her, apology written all over your face.
You couldn’t swap if you didn’t have someone to swap with, you knew this. But if Mia came in clutch then you also knew that Eric wanted to be on the red team for some reason, so no matter what he would swap with Danny.
“We’ve not even finished reading out the rest of your teammates.” Director Williams answers with an irritated tone, and honestly, rightfully so. You were being difficult.
“Blue is usually my team, c’mon Williams we know this.” Much to his chagrin, you are right. “Well, seeing as we’ve not even called out blue team members, how is anyone gonna swap with you?” All eyes on you, intimidating you more than you cared to admit.
Luckily, Mia came right to your rescue.
“I’ll swap with her.” She stands proud, like she’s testifying to the court.
The fingers on his prosthetic hand scratch his nose, for a second you wonder how it would feel to have such an appendage. His hand had been gone longer than you’d been alive apparently, the camp legend was that it got torn off by a bear in the camp outskirts when Ash was a counselor here himself.
“How the hell did you know you were on the other team?”
“Last year you warned us we spoke too much when we’re together at these things, I thought this year you’d want to keep us separated.” Mia’s excuse didn’t really make any sense, seeing as he had allowed them to share a cabin, but she was right in saying that when they were partnered up they did not shut the fuck up. “Red’s more my color anyway.”
The older man shrugged. “Swap accepted, I suppose.
That was that.
“Shall we continue? Okay, red team. Olivia, Mia, Danny, Sheila and Eric. C’mere.”
Your heart dropped.
What the actual fuck.
Even Mia turned to you in confusion as she began to walk down to the stage with the rest of her team.
Danny must have known all along that Eric wasn’t actually going to swap, he’d done this to throw you off his trail. If anything happens between you two it’s your fault for the switch over now.
But why? Why was he so desperate to manipulate you like that? If it had gone wrong at any point, if you had chosen to stay on the team, who would he have swapped with? Maybe Pedro was in on it too, but looking at him now he seemed even more zoned out than you were.
Danny’s eyes found yours in the crowd, you were instantly reminded of all the other types of shit like this he’d pulled in the years prior. You felt like a total idiot for causing a scene, tears threatening to fall.
“Blue team, let’s go! David, Y/N, Pedro, Natalie and Kelly.”
David. He’d completely slipped your mind.
Fuck this shit.
You couldn’t even turn to look at Danny through the rest of the sorting of the teams, not able to face his stupid smug face that you knew would be looking at you. Why did he have to be such a headfuck all the time?
The full thing kept playing on your mind even when you were back in your cabin with Mia. She was smoking a cigarette, leaning out of the bathroom window. Head in your hands, you sat on the closed lid of the toilet.
“Thank fuck we have our own toilets now, jesus, could you imagine only being able to use the fuckin shared one?”
“We still have to clean all the cubicles when it’s our shift, a private toilet just adds one more toilet onto that.”
She inhales the cigarette for a moment, letting it hit her lungs. Even with the window open it still stunk.
“Yeah, but like atleast it’s our toilet. I’d happily clean your piss on the daily over the combined piss of like 60 something kids.” Mia looks different with the moonlight on her face. Her eyes, kind of buggish normally, seem even bigger. Sometimes she looks like a different person, you think.
“From everything I know, I really thought he liked you.” She murmured, flicking the butt out the window when she finished. “I tried to warn you.” You look at her through your hands. She sinks down onto the tiled floor of the shower.
“Just so weird, right? Like what could he have gotten out of that?” Mia stares off to a point in the corner of the room, in contemplation. “I don’t even get why you don’t like each other. You both used to get along so well.”
You’d heard it all before, and your constant avoidance of the question came from the fact that quite honestly you didn’t even know how to answer it.
“All I know is that I’m gonna get him back tenfold.”
She smirks at you. “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah.”
For your arts and crafts block that week, you’d been assigned with Natalie. She was nice enough, kind of quiet but sweet with the kids. She’d spent most of her time asking you where things were. As far as you could tell, she was older. Probably not by much, at least around the same age as Olivia, David and Eric. She was from Salt Lake City, which you thought was a little far to come all the way to camp, but you didn’t judge her too much for it. It’s good to get away from home sometimes.
Kassie had indeed been placed on your team. Telling her that you were confident that with her and Staffanie on the team, you’d beat anything her brother threw at you both earned a giggle from her.
Another surprise was Bridget being placed on your team. She kept to herself or her friends mostly, but was more outspoken than a lot of the other teens.
Bridget had been attending camp the past few years since she turned 8, so you were more familiar with her than Kassie. In saying that, the age gap did mean that neither of you had really spoken to each other, especially as you weren’t a counselor before.
Each week, the teams would participate in challenges. Kids would file into the pavilion in their respective team colours, carrying makeshift posters and signs they had made during arts and crafts.
Waves of red and blue lining the wooden bleachers, allowing you to zone out while Danny lingered in your line of vision.
A soft hand to the low of your back, you jump. David waits with a smile and a water bottle on offer.
“Hey.” You soften, tucking a loose hair behind your ear.
“Hey, barely got a chance to catch up with you
since we got here. How you doing, kiddo?” The hand moves to your shoulder, a tinge of disappointment rushing through you. Another nickname, albeit a well meaning one, but one you still held in disdain.
“Not too bad, I've been busy keeping your sister out of trouble.” He chuckles, the famous David Allen smile appears. “I don’t know what she’d do without you.”
An earnest pause, but also a dangerous one.
“Listen David-“
“About last summer-“ Interrupting each other before either could make their point, and yet both so obviously on the same wavelength. The kiss.
“You go first.” His arms fold in a polite defeat. God, the bastard just oozed charm.
“Just wanted to address what happened last summer, between us. Just incase you felt uneasy or something it doesn’t have to be anything big if you don’t want it to be.” Heat rising in your chest, you felt like a stupid idiot with a school girl crush.
As if he could read your own thoughts, David placed his hand on your forearm. “Don’t beat yourself up over it.”
Danny lingered from afar, no stranger to the occasional glance your way. He almost scowled when he saw your company.
You wanted to mention the text, you wanted to ask why he never said anything. Why he didn’t reply. But David simply rubbed your arm, “We don’t need to talk about it.”
A sigh escapes your lips, one you hadn’t even realised you were holding in. “Cool.”
The first challenge passes by fairly simply, despite Danny’s obvious attempts to wind you up. He was a competitive fucker, that’s for sure.
Team Blue manages to take the win for the night, with the kids chanting David’s name. He runs up to you, sweating profusely and yet managing to effortlessly appear like he was a vampire from Twilight instead of someone who just won a game of dodgeball.
“Great work kiddo, my second in command.” A grin appears, one that you can’t help but mimic knowing finewell that you spent the full game preoccupied with Danny.
From the corner of your eye, you could see Eric nudge Mia with a smug smile and whispered in her ear. She looked at you immediately and grinned, the worried pit immediately returned in your stomach.
She skips towards you, with Eric retreating to Danny who stands on the sidelines looking a bit misplaced.
“Guess who’s going to a party tonight?” Mia offers you two thumbs up and does a shuffling dance, that only manages to kick up dirt and makes you cough.
“The Abomination?”
“Okay, fuck you. Us! They’re having a party outside the woods. Dude, our own counselor party!” It had been something you’d spoken about for years, but you felt the effect had been lessened after last year's antics.
“I don’t know, Mia. I want to take this next challenge seriously and-”
“And what? All the tension from today will mean nothing when we’ll all be hungover tomorrow, group bonding?” You tried to find another excuse. “What about the kids?”
“Girl, fuck the kids! I want to party.” All you could do was answer with an awkward shrug, which she took for total defeat.
“YAAAAY. Okay, quick, we have like 2 hours to get ready-” Mia grabs your wrist and pulls you in the direction of your cabin, Danny standing on the hill watching you as you go by. If you weren’t so nervous about the prospect of being at the party with David and trying to listen to Mia, you’d think he was checking you out.
“You better be there, Scout!” Eric calls after you both as you pass, Danny’s head dipping beside him seemingly finding the ground extremely interesting right now. “Suck my ass, Eric!” He howled in response, earning a fit of laughter from you and Mia.
The winding path, illuminated with random lanterns left by partying campers long ago, seemed to go on forever. The prospect of getting absolutely shit faced at the end of the trail after a long week of ensuring the safety of screaming kids, patching up old equiptment and cleaning up actual shit was what kept the counsellors of Camp Kandar going.
The transition between the July weather and August’s own was usually indistinguishable, but tonight was particularly breezy. Regardless, the blazing campfire your colleagues crowded around gave a small amount of relief.
Cheap bottles of liquor and red solo cups, firebright light and wine coolers left discarded on the forest floor in favour of roaming hands on dancing teens. There was almost something melancholic about it all, one day they’d well and truly grow out of this forever. The fleeting fun of camp summer, the spontaneity of beers in the woods on a lukewarm summer night.
David strummed lazily on a dark cherry coloured guitar, you almost wanted to roll your eyes at how it looked like he’d stepped right out of a young adult rom com.
“I don’t get what you see in him.” Danny appears, housing a beer you can’t quite decipher the brand name of. You can feel his judgement despite his eyes also watching the older boy at the other side of the fire, unaware to his dueling voyeurs.
“What are you talking about?” He licked his lips, letting out a scoffing almost laugh at your reply.
“You never suited acting stupid, Scout. But then again, are as predictable as a Chainsmokers song.”
Fingers clenching around your cup filled with god knows what, how dare he? It took everything you had in you to show restraint and now throw its contains over his loose fitting tank top and cargo shorts. He was dressed like every female gaze dream skater boy forever immortalised on countless Pinterest boards - and yet you were the predictable one apparently.
“Why do you have to be such a fucking dick all of the goddamned time? You’re insane.”
“I’m not the one sleeping with my best friend’s brother.” Wide eyes snap to his, still burning holes into David’s skull across the fire with a tinge of unnoticed envy.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” The clench around the red cup switches from anger to fear. He could always read her better than anyone. He finally looks at you, his blue eyes somehow welcome despite the venom you shot at each other. A pit in your stomach started to burn as if someone was inside digging it themself.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be getting this reaction. All I’ll say is don’t waste your time on him.” You could feel your eyes roll back, here he was backtracking trying to act like he was helping you again. No way were you falling for it again.
“I can spend time with whoever I want to. You’re just jealous that without alcohol I can’t hang around you without social distancing myself at all times.” You down the rest of your cup, just trying to keep your shaking hands preoccupied.
He shrugs. “Maybe I am.” His gaze shifts back to the rim of the beer. He contemplates copying your action and downing it as well. “Or maybe I just don’t give a shit ‘cuz I won’t even be around to see the fallout when you fuck it all up next year.”
Your turn to look at the boy again, taking in his frame for a moment. His hunched demeanour doesn’t read like he’s telling a joke or trying to wind you up.
“W-what?”
“Yeah, this is my last year. My parents are getting a divorce and my mom can’t afford to take us here anymore. And everything that was saved for my collage fund is getting put into the divorce. Surprise!” Danny uncannily laughs, clearly highlighting just how rotten the situation is.
“And it’s so fucked because we’re moving away and Bridge and Kass are leaving their entire lives behind and they’ll never get to experience this and they barely even know that we’re never going home again and it’s all just so so fucked-”
“Danny…. I didn’t know.”
“Yeah, why the fuck would you I don’t even know why I’m telling you this-” He starts to dab at his eyes and make a hurried exit before you reach out and grab his wrist.
When you look into his eyes you see that same boy from the first year you bunked together. The boy that was scared of the dark, the boy that was chatty and so eager to be outdoors yet scared of the wilderness. You see little Danny, all alone in the big bad scary world with no parents to really protect him, as much as his mom was trying. You felt like you couldn’t breathe. You never knew he was going through anything this serious.
“Wanna go on a walk right now?”
You expect him to tell you to fuck off and storm away, or cast some snarky remark about David. He just nods slowly. “Let me just tell Eric where I’m going.”
“Cool, I’ll get you at the carving tree.” He kind of fumbles a nod and scurries to find the older boy.
You turn and David is behind you like a jumpscare, you’re unable to hide a yelp. He laughs and places a hand on your forearm, you grow tense - mind too preoccupied with Danny. “Everything okay? I know you and Bixler are kind of neck and neck, I’d hate for him to spoil the party for you.”
Glancing back at the blonde boy as he searches for Eric, a tinge of guilt pierces through. “It’s fine, I can handle him.
“Well if you ever wanted me to say anything to him, let me know.” He shrugged, guitar still resting over him.
“I actually had something to ask you.” The liquid courage was saying it was now or never, and if it all went wrong you could escape into the woods with Danny who would probably be feeling even worse than you.
“Uh-huh?”
Here goes nothing.
“Today, when you said we shouldn’t talk about the kiss or whatever. I just wanted to ask what changed your mind after you left that note on my pillow?” David’s face is unreadable.
“What?”
“And yeah, I’m sorry if the text I sent was brutal and I won’t lie and say I’ve not thought about the kiss a lot. But I don’t know man, just help me here.” It almost sounds like a rant as the words escape your mouth, David raising an eyebrow in retaliation.
“Well I’ll try and help you out, I don’t know what you’re speaking about.” He seems dumbfounded, an expression you’ve never seen cross him.
“The text. The note. You left me a note, did you not?” Hands trembling, you wish you had it with you in the chance it would somehow completely restart his memory.
“I left with Mia. I needed to get out of there, it was crazy and intense, and kinda good, but like totally wrong.” He moves you to the side, speaking in hushed tones as if it was an affair on par with JFK and Marilyn and not a stupid drunken kiss.
“And then I texted you.”
“No you didn’t, I don’t even have your number. Show me your phone.” The device feels like a brick from the Great Wall of China when you pull it out of your pocket. You try your best to hide your uneasy fingers when you scroll to the conversation, a silent prayer that you didn’t delete it.
There it was plain as day. It was a real conversation. He lightly grabs the phone off you, still holding it at a level that you can both see it. He taps on the contact and stares for a moment.
“Kiddo, I am so sorry. I don’t know who the hell this could be ‘cause that’s not my number.” David peels his own phone out his back pocket and shows his own contact. He was right, the number was completely different.
“I promise I don’t have a second phone as well, and I’ve never changed it. Not since I was like 13 and you still had a Motorola Razr, remember those?” He smiles, going back into a personality mode similar to a dad or grandfather. You weren’t going to lie and say it wasn’t giving you the ick.
All you could do was nod.
“Nevermind, I guess.” He parts with a pat on the shoulder like he was your sports teammate. And technically that’s all he was. A teammate, a friend's brother.
You turn in the direction of the carving tree, Danny stands in the distance. The stomach pit returns, you wish the digger would just go on strike.
All you can do is collect your thoughts for a moment and prepare yourself for the trip ahead, ensuring to grab a bottle of vodka from the ground as you approach him.

sorry if this is niche and you guys haven’t shared these experiences but i’m gearing up to be a counselor at a camp for the second year in a row and i remember attending this camp as a kid so…
imagine meeting whitney at camp as a kid, befriending him, and growing together. maybe you only see him at camp every year, not going to the same school or anything. you guys slowly grow from loving camp to hating it as you grow older, and as you guys become the oldest kids attending the counselors trust you more alone, paying more attention to the younger kiddos there. you guys share your first kiss in the old church basement, or maybe he sneaks into your bunk if it’s a sleepaway camp.

So could we get a breakdown of what all the counselors do? Also, are the bois over certain cabins? Like Warriors cabin 3, Legend cabin 2, etc. Etc. Or is more like they're over their station and the campers just move between stations?
okay, fair warning... this might get a little long!
Tumblr media
wild's sheet is the only one... done...... and actually needs to be...... redone. but he's in charge of archery, most of the meals, and survivalist/wildlife survival classes (which are required for all the campers to take)
both he and hyrule are the ones leading the survivalist classes, although they almost always have one of the other counselors with them, due to the fact that 20+ kids are tricky to keep on task for two people in the middle of the forest.
Tumblr media
he and malon get along well, and she comes over sometimes to help feed the campers, but is ultimately pretty busy with the ranch. whenever there's a field trip to lon lon, they make lunch for the campers and catch up.
occasionally he and twilight will team up for horse riding lessons when there's a group larger than 5 being taught at one time.
Tumblr media
i don't talk about warriors enough!! and i should. he's usually a cabin counselor, which means he's in charge of one of the cabins housing the sleepaway kids!
he's a bit of a denmother and spends a lot of his time making sure his campers are doing well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
see how legend has a red and white shirt and some of the campers have that same color scheme but flipped? well, that's to symbolize what cabin they're in. its to help with rounding up kids.
but its also helpful for the numerous cabin wars when legend and warriors put on. they're team building exercises and for fun, but due to legend and warriors' prevalent rivalry, they can get a bit out of hand. much to sky's chagrin.
warriors is also in charge of any plays and etc being put on at camp. as well as any large team events in tandem with legend + seldomly sky.
Tumblr media
sky does a bit of everything around camp, but is mostly known to help out in arts and crafts as well as being the lead pest control guy. soooo, known for cleanup and being an extra pair of patient hands.
he's also a cabin head, but only for the kids who switch to sleepaway halfway through camp. has to be shaken awake violently most of the time, as his campers are fully aware of the 4 daily naps the guy takes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the kids adore him because he'll get rid of the skulltulas and scare off any wolfos around camp, but he also gifts them little wood carvings if they stick around to watch him work.
sky is also known to share little secrets about his coworkers to the campers, just to make sure his chaotic image is upkept someway. he enjoys being both a voice of reason and keeping the remaining counselors on their toes.
Tumblr media
they're highly coveted and are a bit too much of a source of contention between campers sometimes, as the trading games created with them cause.... fights.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
legend is the second cabin counselor, most of the time at least. sometimes twilight beats him in the counselor beat-down at the beginning week of training, but its not usual.
although legend is a bit snappy and can seem cold towards the campers, they know better. they're used to the calmer, more caring side of legend since they have to sleep in the same cabin.
and don't tell anybody, but the hot cocoa legend sneaks out from the kitchen is the best balm for nightmares.
Tumblr media
legend hates lake duty, but is the strongest swimmer among the counselors apart from wind. but since wind is about 4'9" on a good day, legend is essentially forced into lifeguard duty.
a few other counselors might hang out on the coast or do some games with the campers, but legend and wind are usually the two keeping supervision when it comes to the lake.
usually the guy to go into town with twilight, or at least the first to volunteer, as a majority of the counselors come along anyways.
Tumblr media
although hyrule, four, wild, and wind are considered "junior counselors," wind is the youngest and definitely treated as such. even if he's probably the more level-headed and mature one at times.
its easy for him to connect with the campers, since they're closer than age, but he finds it infuriating that they treat him more like a peer than somebody in charge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
he teaches swim lessons in the shallower parts of the lake and holds water games + fights. teaching the campers how to properly act within water and the certain things to keep in mind when doing so.
he will also take the campers on river rides in the canoes through the forest, with at least two other counselors along.
when wind was also just a camper, he played pirates in the faux-pirate ship. he met tetra here and they stayed friends, even if she remained a camper rather than apply for counselor training.
Tumblr media
twilight is the second guy you can find getting rid of pests, as well as the one guy you should go to for bear hugs and a cuddle if you need it.
he's in charge of trail rides, horse riding lessons, and the one to plan out any excursions into the small town just outside the forest housing the camp. bit of a worrywort and more than a little overbearing according to the campers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
although, also according to the campers, he's been acting a little weird and more withdrawn than usual. plus, there's a rumor that he's been staying out after dark, who knows!
he's a good cabin head, but he doesn't know if he likes being responsible for that many kids at a time, especially since he doesn't feel like he's up to the task. tends to fail the "counselor beat-down" on purpose, unless legend gets too annoying /lh.
Tumblr media
hyrule is at the nurse's station most of the time, but in the afternoons he goes to help out legend or wild for whatever activities they're in charge of at the time. anxious, but good at his job, and endlessly annoyed at how many times the same kid can sprain their wrist.
luckily, having trained-ish magic and being somewhat knowledgeable when it comes to actual first-aid, hyrule is able to keep the campers relatively in good health. although, they have had to send a few home from injuries he couldn't deal with.
Tumblr media
enjoys wandering around camp and the forest, and he's good enough with any sword that he's not too worried about the local wildlife.
hyrule and wild are rather close, and tend to wander off whenever they aren't keeping track of campers. they've gotten into some.... trouble on their own.
Tumblr media
in charge of arts and crafts and gets a little too into the creation process. he's used to helping his grandfather with blacksmithing back home and holds the campers to the same standards at times.
but you can...... only make so much with pipecleaners and pinecones. for the most part he's pretty calm and enjoys his job, but if he has to take one more boxcutter away from an eleven year old terrorizing the arts and crafts tent, he's going to lose it.
Tumblr media
he and wild have a theory about time's funding for the camp and they use up a lot of their free time discussing it. its unknown whether or not they truly believe this, but the mounting amount of evidence they keep finding is driving the two crazy. especially since time doesn't exactly confirm or deny anything.
will occasionally help out sky with pest control + whatever, but isn't a big fan.
and that's..... i think it! or as much as im able to write right now. got more flowers to plant, you know how it is! spring is very busy. nod.
asks are still open and whatever questions you may have can be made there! :)

Fav horror movie recommendations if you feel like sharing? I try to watch one a day in Oct and my list is a little light this year!
Hi hi hi I'm gonna be obnoxious and recommend a few of varying moods!! (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
Tumblr media
1.) Ring
Tumblr media
One of the main inspirations for the J-Horror boom in the early 2000's, Ring (often referred to as "Ringu") is a moody suspense flick with aspirations towards solving the mystery of a mysterious curse transmitted via VHS tape.
Based on the novel by Koji Suzuki, Ring captures the mood and tone of the book much moreso than the American Remake (which as far as American remakes go is loud but fine) and has a few stand out moments. It's definitely a favorite of mine.
CW: Child Abuse, Mild Body Horror
Liked this? Check out: Ju-On 2, Ring 0, and One Missed Call.
2.) Sleepaway Camp
Tumblr media
Definitely not a popular pick, Sleepaway Camp is a typical summer camp slasher (as was the style at the time) and holds up shockingly well*** all things considered! (We'll get to the asterisk in the CW)
Sleepaway Camp is carried by odd, earnest, and fun performances, the kids are kids who yell, swear, and are silly, the adults are either Shakespearean or complete planks of wood, and they all bounce off each other with really naturalistic and hysterical dialogue, it's very quotable. A great fun time with friends. BUT...
CW: Spoilers! Transphobia, the entire film has trickles of mild queer symbolism in some dream sequences, but the big ending reveal is that surprise! The killer is trans! And that is depicted as being more horrifying than the decapitated head they're holding. In the queer lens I view this in today it's quite a fun film with a lot of revenge kills but it's still, in the text and to the mass audience, it's quite a Hallmark of pop culture transphobia. Take is or leave is.
Like this? Check out: Basket Case, Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Cabin in the Woods (I don't like that one but it tends to be loved by most who watch it)
3.) Us
Tumblr media
Something more contemporary, more artistic, and honestly funny, Us by Jordan Peele is a very interesting high concept film, and his second overall. The concept of the doppelganger is not new, but to see it plain as day, so well executed is super interesting to see properly.
Us gets a lot of flack for being a bit more bloated and messy compared to other Peele films, but I like to think of the looseness of the rules and the bleakness of the metaphor to be very engaging and beautiful
CW: General violence
Like this? Check out: Nope, Get Out, Uzumaki (yes actually, I think they have a similar situation of an unnatural and bleak conflict that can't really be solved)
4.) La Casa Lobo
Tumblr media
Where the fuck do I start with this one, La Casa Lobo is in universe, a propaganda-y children's story for a midsommar ass cult, and it is as beautiful as it is horrifying. This stop motion, paper maché, charcoal nightmare is always moving, always uncanny, and always isolating. It's phenomenal, and while it's premise may be simple, entering the wolf house will make you feel like you can't leave.
CW: animal violence, child endangerment, it's uncanny as fuck.
Like this? Check out: Mad God, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Midsommar
4.) [•REC]
Tumblr media
This Spanish found footage "zombie" movie is a blast from start to end with great pacing. Not so much a story as it is more of a "things happening" movie, [•REC] never fails to deliver on the tension or scares. I have a soft spot for the film, as I saw it as a kid with my folks IN PARTS on YouTube like a fucking anime
If that doesn't age me I don't know what will.
CW: Child death, particularly jumpscarey, gore and body horror
Like this? Check out: [•REC2] (think Aliens compared to Alien), The Mandela Catalogue (yes really), Quarantine (American Remake that's not, terrible?)
5.) heck/Skinamarink
Tumblr media
Predecessor to recent indie smash hit, Skinamarink, heck is the litmus test as to whether or not you can stomach Skinamarink. Slow, creeping, exclusively diagetic, and immensely creepy. There is little plot, and it's again an experience, but one that feels like a living breathing Nightmare.
The reason heck is here first instead of Skinamarink, is mainly length vs quality vs density. Skinamarink is a very good picture but for the average person it wears out it's welcome by the 1 hour mark, and we still got like 40 min to go. heck is a bite sized 30 minute short film that just gets to the point quicker. However with the reduced runtime, you lose the density of the atmosphere. It's both better but lesser. Both heck and Skinamarink are fine movies, but definitely pick which one you wanna see based on the mood of the evening and your company
CW: body horror, child endangerment (lot of that on this list)
Like this? Check out: Paranormal Activity, The Mandela Catalogue, Vita Carnis
Other Curiosities worth exploring
The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari - it's the first, it's beautiful, and still an admirable work of art to this day, around 100 years later
Gojira - while the character is nowadays more of an action property, the original Gojira is still incredibly harrowing
Tetsuo the Iron Man - loud, intense, and metal as fuckkk. Tetsuo is a more surreal extreme horror movie full of body horror and antagonistic sound design
Chainmail Chasers - a quaint horror series based off of the old smiledog creepypasta. Considering it's just like one gal and her friends it's very impressive, still in progress
Local 58 - a well regarded foreboding horror series regarding mysteries around the moon and how that relates to the local news station
Okay that's it sorry bYE!! (・∀・)

So Unserious
PAIRING - Kevin x GN!Reader
SYNOPSIS - Classic Slasher movies are so unserious…
WORDCOUNT - 1.6k
WARNINGS - Humor, Fluff, Spoilers for twenty to thirty year old slasher movies (for those of you who care about that kind of thing), some banter, established relationship, dialogue heavy
A/N - I'm curious how many of you who are into the older slasher films know which film is first mentioned. It's honestly one of my favorites, though I'm fond of all of the mentioned titles.
Tumblr media
The two of you sit in the dark bedroom, a bowl of popcorn between you, bodies spread across the blankets that act as your "seating area." Kevin's laptop sits atop one of your pillows, its screen emitting a soft glow as a younger Ted Raimi appears.
“You think the Director just told Ted Raimi to have a good time doing most of this movie? Like 'just go nuts, buddy'?” Kevin tosses a piece of popcorn your way, missing your open mouth by mere centimeters. You take the morsel between your fingers, blinking at the laptop sitting in front of you.
“Before he was stuck with a knife in the skull? Yeah,” You pop the piece into your mouth, tilting your head toward him. “Yeah, I think they did.”
"Uh, hello!? Spoilers!?" Kevin throws his arms up, dramatic in nature.
"Oh, right. I forgot you're not a man of culture..." You bring your can of soda into view, swirling the liquid inside as if you're drinking a fine wine. Kevin chuffs a laugh, shooting you a bombastic side-eye in a way only he can.
“I thought we were making fun of these movies, but I guess I wasn’t filled in on the added shots that would be fired my way.” He mutters, reaching over the side of the bed for the many snack bags on the floor below. Your eyes twinkle with amusement of your own, waving him off with a chuckle.
“Oh, come on! It’s a thirty year old movie."
“There are better movies than this one.” He argues, the bag in his grip squealing as he tears it open.
“Sleepaway Camp?” You offer.
“Haven’t seen it.”
Your jaw drops, tapping the spacebar on the laptop to pause the current movie. Kevin’s brows knit together as you turn to him, your hands cradling your own cheeks.
“We are watching that later, but I must warn you of the cringe you will be subjected to.”
“Sure, but can we get back to Ted and his groovin’ moves, please?” Kevin asks, unpausing the movie without an answer. You both settle back, watching as the unknown killer walks away from yet another victim all whilst Ted Raimi keeps working it.
“Alright, so far, who are we rooting for to survive?” You pop the question with such nonchalance that Kevin has to let the words register in his head.
“Bub is my kind of guy, but Ted Raimi is doing the least and if you wouldn’t have spoiled his death for me, I would’ve definitely rooted for Ted to get out alive.”
“Do you even know Ted Raimi’s character in this movie?” You arch a brow at him, popping another handful of fluffy kernels in your mouth.
“Nope, and I’m choosing to call him Ted Raimi out of spite of you spoiling this movie for me!” Kevin sticks his tongue out and you roll your eyes. As if you spoiled the entirety of the plot. He’ll never recover.
“What sane person is just like ‘oh, we’re selling our establishment, better kill off my business bud and then all our employees’ like this man has never had a normal conversation about his feelings in his life!?”
You’re clutching your side in uncontrollable laughter as Kevin finally gets the grand reveal of the killer, dots connected and chase scenes begin. He’s sitting beside you just going off, many strong points being made.
“To be fair, it’s the 80s. Men didn’t talk openly about their feelings back then.” You say, rolling onto your back as you catch your breath.
Kevin holds a finger up in solidarity, your lips quirking in a teasing smirk.
“I’m trying to hand it to Blondie though, even if some of her choices are questionable right now.” You guys have been on your second bowl of popcorn, going on the third at this rate, and Kevin’s remarks are making it taste a little better with the added sprinkle of humor. You’re just basking in a good ole rewatch and reaction.
“What are these windows made of? Plexiglass?”
“Why wouldn’t she go in there, what if there’s an extra key to unlock the front doors in Danny’s desk?”
“Why the hell is a dead man’s head THE weapon!?”
“Yes, Girl, call the cops!”
“How is this man sTILL ALIVE! YOU WERE STABBED IN THE CHEST, MY GUY!”
“GET HIM CRAIG- ohhh not in between the fingers…”
As the credits roll, you watch Kevin lean forward, elbows on his knees, visibly unhappy with the ending of the movie. His head in his hands, full-on disappointment etching his features that are visible between his fingers. And you’re right beside him, hiding a smile behind thinned lips.
“Well... I’m gonna get us a refill on popcorn and drinks.” You’re quick to slip the blanket off your legs, sliding out of bed and grabbing the empty bowl and other items around the space. There’s something muttered as you leave, but you don’t catch it. Instead you remind him he can choose the next film to watch.
By the time you’re back, drinks and fresh popcorn in hand, Kevin’s already got the next movie running. You recognize the movie score immediately.
“Friday The 13th?”
He nods, taking the bowl of popcorn you hand him.
“We get to listen to Alice run through the woods, screaming like a dumbass!”
“Yeah, just have to wait like ninety minutes into the movie.” You quip, placing the drinks on the nightstand and hopping into bed with a huff.
“Isn’t that why we’re here? To make fun of silly slasher flicks?” Kevin questions, shooting you a look.
You pull the blanket up your legs, leaning so your head rests on Kevin’s shoulder. He tilts his head to the side, resting his temple against your skull. Your body shifts as you get comfortable.
“Perhaps.” You mutter, reaching over to grab some popcorn from the bowl, your gaze landing on the screen as the iconic theme music plays over the opening credits of the film. You sigh with exasperation as the screaming begins, the first camp counselors dying to the unseen killer.
“You can’t tell me these camps are so big that no one can hear these people screaming. Are you kidding me?”
“You’re using your brain, actually being rational. They literally talk about Jason in the second movie as if he’s the one who murdered everyone in the first one.”
“They also gave Terry that dog and she gave no shits about her own dog when it went missing. That was her dog, right?” You glance up at Kevin with furrowed brows, who just blinks.
“Yes?” He sounds unsure, himself.
“I just feel like if this happened in real life, no one would be excited to go to a camp where terrors took place. Most parents wouldn’t send their kids there.”
“Nah, parents would send their kids anywhere for some peace and quiet.”
“Kevin!!” You scold, shifting on your side to find his brown eyes once again. He smiles, the corners of his eyes crinkle at the action.
"I think it's like a right of passage or something." Kevin says with a shrug, pulling you closer as he speaks. You roll your eyes at the answer, shaking your head with a groan.
"Yeah, because it's a smart idea to send your kid to a place where they could get murdered by some random killer." You exclaim, humming an affirmative. "That sounds smart. What could possibly go wrong?" You raise an eyebrow at Kevin, the corner of your mouth turning up into a crooked grin.
Through all of your back and forth, you hadn’t realized how much time went by that you’re already to Marcie’s death scene. The camera panning to the shower curtain, fingers peeking around the flimsy material. And Marcie just looking for trouble as she searches the shower stalls thinking that her fellow counselors are pranking her.
You stifle a laugh, your tongue pressing against the roof of your mouth as she turns around to meet the killer, an ax coming down into her head as she screams.
"Oh, it's not funny!" Kevin chastises, his eyes falling back to the screen. "She can't help that she's trapped in the script."
You can't help but giggle quietly, your eyes still glued on the scene. The camera cuts to the swinging light in the showers for a moment before cutting back to the group at the cabin.
“I love how her first thought as the slasher is about to kill her is to not fight back or run, but to stand there and scream for the few moments she has to actually attempt an escape.” You say, shaking your head in disbelief.
“What did you want her to do?” Kevin asks with a smirk. “Kick the killer in the gonads and run away?”
“That’s what I would do! A kick to the nads hurts, no matter your makeup.”
“Even Mrs. Voorhees?”
“I’m not above kicking an old woman in the hoo ha if it means I survive her crazed murder spree.” You wave a hand toward the laptop, “That’s what Alice would have done if she were smart.”
“Unfortunately that wasn’t in her script.” Kevin replies, sarcasm strong in his tone. “Nor was taking the Jeep that Mrs. Voorhees drove up in. Even with Annie’s corpse in the passenger seat, I would’ve been the hell outta there!”
“Let’s be honest, though. Betsy Palmer’s performance in this movie is and will forever be iconic.”
You’re getting tired, Kevin notes. Your tone is lowering and you’re starting to slur your words, sagging deeper into his side as the end of the movie gets closer and closer. Still, he feels the need to ask.
“Are you up for another movie after this?” He asks, to which you click your tongue.
“Of course! My choice, cause you chose last.”
Kevin rolls his eyes, but agrees.
“Which one?”
“Killer Sofa.”
“That’s not a slasher.”
“You’re trying to tell me a couch that kills off people in a haze of passion isn’t a slasher?!”
“It’s not even a sofa, first off. It’s a recliner.”
“Do we have to be so technical? We’re watching it anyway.” Your arm juts out to close the tab you had open, searching for said movie now that Friday The 13th has ended. Kevin swats your hand away, but continues where you left off. A smile finds your lips.
“You’re too easy.” You tease.
“Yeah, yeah, Killer Sofa it is.”

Only Friends Music EP5 (part 2/2)
Part one covers the first half of Ep5, or you can find other episodes on my pinned comment.
This is a series of posts taking a closer look at the music of Only Friends. Reminder: Playing with the music is like body language, it moves with the conversation. Verbal says something either through lyrics or something like a song title.
[2/4 cont.]
Tumblr media
Song: Miniboss by Lasse Lyx Scene: Concert, girl comes up to talk to Ray Type: Vocal, Playful
Starts as Sand says “You never paid attention to me” and continues playing without the guitar while Sand and Ray banter. The conversation is another hint that Sand has been watching Ray before they met. Or at least Sand has been paying attention to Ray. “If it wasn’t my glorious kindness for giving you a ride home that day, you wouldn’t even have spared me a glance.” Sand brings up the savior thing, and Ray makes a joke about giving generous tips to Sand. But Ray’s real test is money, with the music dispersing when Ray offers to give Sand money for the beer, and starting up again as Ray nods and lets Sand pay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Song: Flo by Molife Scene: Girl talks to Ray at the concert Type: Vocal
Ray just goes with the flow and is polite to the girl talking to him. The song stops as Sand rejoins him with the beer. I wanted to add both pictures because of the difference in smiles.
Tumblr media
Song: Night Love by JEKD Scene: Song sung by band at concert Type: Vocal
Lyrics in the show:
I see you passing by, walking through the night And you are so beautiful, standing under that light Meeting you tonight, is it coincidental or fated But the loneliness we both share has now been sated On this dark night, I just want to keep you by my side On this long night, I fear someone might change your mind I need you right now, let’s make the night mean something Night love, baby, it’s nightlife It’s about you and me in a sexy night Night love, baby, it’s nightlife Only you, my sexy lady
Another Thai song for Ray and Sand, another song with loneliness, another song with fear of someone else. Sand is fearing Mew and Ray’s relationship, even as Sand spends more time with Ray, building their relationship on uncertain and unspoken grounds. They’re building a sandcastle, easily kicked over or washed away by the waves.

Song: Minimal Meaning by Marten Moses Scene: Top and Mew hold hands in front of the host stand. Type: Verbal
Starts when the host glances at Top and Mew holding hands. Mew views it as judgment from the host, third time this song has played this episode. This is the second time this song has told us about Mew’s insecurities, and once with Top’s feeling of unease.
Tumblr media
Song: And So It Begins by Across the Great Valley Scene: Mew “Sees” Top with his other senses Type: Vocal
Mew lets go of his senses completely and just sees Top as he wants him to be. Mew’s Top is more expressive, smiles more, and seems softer.

Song: Window With A View by Sleepaway Camp Scene: Parking garage Sand talks about his dream Type: Vocal
Lyrics in show:
One more night in my head Stirring up dust and kicking cobwebs Looking for a light I’ve never known Will be it be out in the wilderness or will it be homegrown
Lyrics not in show:
One more night with the dead I’ve been spending more time with them than the living And if you’re just the company that you keep I’ll stay where I am for eternity I don’t know If something’s going to come my way I don’t know But give me just a little taste ‘Cause I need something To hold onto I need more than just a window A window with a view And all this looking out Is just a symptom of a heart filled with doubt ‘Cause when I start looking in I can’t tell the end from the beginning I don’t know If something’s going to come my way I don’t know But give me just a little taste I need something To hold onto I need more than just a window A window with a view
Sand is stagnant, kicking cobwebs in his head. He's doubtful, unable to take a step play for an audience, he's holding onto Ray even though he's afraid because Ray offers him a (ray of)light, a taste of something different.
This episode is all about Sand living his life by what he needs far more than what he wants, how every minute of the day is important and used to the fullest to save for the future and survive in the present. But this episode, and this song are about how that’s not always enough, “I need more than just a window, [I need] a window with a view” Sand is looking for something more, hope for the future and the dreams he thinks about in the quiet moments. Sand sits there with Ray and tells him of his dream and the song speaks of his uncertainty mixed with his need for something more, a whisper of a dream, a ray of hope.
Ray, in episode 6, accuses Sand of not caring about singing, that he only wants the money. Which is not completely wrong, and it isn't completely right. Sand does care about singing, but he's using it to live, and seems content with the money it brings in. He doesn't want to lose what he has in order to possibly start perusing a bigger dream. Sand doesn’t dare to take that next step and dream that he might play at those festivals.
The song ends when Sand yells “Huh” in the phone call and his real life intrudes on his dreams once again.

Song: รักคุณเข้าแล้ว I’ve fallen for you by Micro Scene: Ray sings on stage for Sand Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard and translated by the show [lyrics in brackets translated by me]:
I’ve fallen for you I’ve truly fallen for you They say I’m unamicable Truth is I’m just shy around you I’ve fallen for you Now I’ve gone and fallen for you [It’s hard to flirt with you I don’t dare take the risk I want to look again] I look at you You turn around You nearly knock me off my feet I’ve fallen for you
Ray has used singing and music to try to express and process his emotions and feelings in the show before, and this time he chooses this song to sing to Sand. He’s getting as close to a confession as he can right now, Ray’s been the one pushing their relationship to this point, and Sand’s been drawing lines in the sand (sorry?). Sand's trying to protect himself from Ray, but at the same time enjoying being around Ray. But this last line, defining who they are to each other, is the scariest line to cross. And one of the most important if they want to to fix their foundation.
A lyric that isn’t in the show is “Maybe I’ll sing a song to let you know (how I feel)” which is what he seems to be doing. Ray is uncertain, unable to move forward, but enjoying the past few days he's had with Sand. While Ray is up on stage singing this song, Sand’s mom figures them out and asks “I don’t think he’s just a friend” and Sand looks like he was going to deny it before he rethinks and says “I guess not, let's wait and see.”
Tumblr media
Song: With You It’s Different by Blue Topaz Scene: Mew and Top hug in apartment Type: Vocal
Mew sees that Top has posted their picture to Instagram, with the caption “One day with broken glasses kid”. Top says he never has posted anything like that with anyone before, and the music starts after Top hugs Mew and asks him to stay over. It’s the third time this song has played, second in this episode.

Tumblr media
Song: The Faintest Touch by Howard Harper-Barnes Scene: Top and Mew kiss Type: Vocal, Playful
While they kiss and awkwardly take off their own clothes, there is no music, which makes it a little more awkward to watch. The music that plays after Top asks Mew if he can see it disjointed and has no melody. Which given the themes of this and previous episodes about sight, senses, reading people, being high, and being bewitched, makes me wonder if the question should be “Are you bewitched by me?”
As Top steps in closer to Mew, and the disjointed music settles into an orchestra piece right before Top says “I love you” and they kiss again. As Mew sits on the couch, the first notes of The Faintest Touch plays.
Tumblr media
Song: Forbidden Love by OTE Scene: Sand’s house Type: Vocal
No lyrics in the show:
Laughs came so easily tonight You’re aware I’m prepared to keep you tight ‘Cause everything you did tonight I swear in every sense you did it right I’d like to keep this piece of mind Don’t wanna lose myself now In forbidden love My heart mends so easily tonight Just get it, get it right Gimme some now, gimme some more (x4) Love felt so real to me tonight I’m aware I have to prepare to lose it right I like to hang with you Don’t wanna get into Forbidden love Laughs came so easily tonight Just get it, get it right Gimme some now, gimme some more (x4) Forbidden love(x4)
Song plays at the scene change, sounding like it’s coming through a radio. Ray is on Sand’s balcony, and Sand gives him an edible. Even though there are no lyrics in the episode, they’re worth looking at. In the first verse, “Laughs came easily tonight,” It's easy for Sand and Ray to be together, they want to keep this relationship as it is, it feels good. It’s still forbidden love, Sand has told Ray multiple times that he can separate love and sex, that they should stay friends. Ray and Sand keep coming back to this forbidden love.
Love felt so real to me tonight I’m aware I have to prepare to lose it right
Tumblr media
Song: Drifting Away by Mama Zula Scene: Boston, Nick, Sand, Ray party Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard in show:
How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you
Full song lyrics:
Give me something Something good I'm wasted on the thought of you Head is spinning, I can't move Smoking eyes In a groove No, I Can't can't get you of on my mind You're still Still, still with me all the time How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you Drifting away (I am) Drifting away Wasted youth Wasted love Once filled with potential but I wasted it I'm wasted on the thought of you Don't know how to cut me loose (Cut me loose) Can't can't get you of on my mind You're still Still, still with me all the time How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you How long will I have to wait How long have we been too late Now I wish that we never met So that I didn't have to try to forget you Drifting away (Now I'm) Drifting away Drifting away Drifting away
They edited the song, so the lyrics during the party ask the question: how long does it take to forget someone? It’s too late to have the conversation that they should have had, their relationship is too fragile. Boston wouldn’t be able to kick their sandcastle over and ruin everything.
Themes of fading away have been around since episode 3, with Don’t Let Me Be This Way, played in the scene with Ray and Sand eating Sand’s railroad rice.
Oh God please don't Don't let me be this way, I Can't breathe, I can't I can't communicate, I Find every way To start another day and How many more Cycles before I Fade?
Then there are two mentions of fading away in Falling Through from Sand and Ray's motorcycle ride earlier in the episode.
You said that an angel will illuminate the sky But my reflection is slowly fading out In the vision of you and I … You said you were sorry but I know you had to leave And maybe that’s why I’ve been fading out At least that’s how I feel
But now, now we have the wish for the feelings to go away, wishing these feelings never had happened like in Tell Me Something New from the Sand and Mew kitchen scene at the beginning of the episode.
In the last scene of this episode, Ray is going to watch their relationship drift away, unable to find the words to fix it.
Tumblr media
Song: Trouble by Trouble The Eastern Plain Scene: Ray and Sand in bed Type: Vocal
Lyrics heard in show are edited:
You wait, but still it’s Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now
Full lyrics:
Oh hear, the ocean is near Where you dug a hole And buried my fear And we, scattered like trees Sometimes in line But I’m down all the time You wait, but still it’s Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble Too late, it’s all Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now Arrive late at the scene Nothing makes sense Don’t know what you mean You can’t put all things aside There’s no way out and God knows I’ve tried For better, or worse it’s Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble So save your tears it’s ‘Cause it’s trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now You take all that is left Nothing to mourn And no looking back A sigh, we’re caught in the wind Where our story ends Another begins You wait, but still it’s Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble Too late, it’s all Trouble by trouble by Trouble by trouble now
Song starts after Ray says happy birthday to Sand’s back. Sand has turned away, verbally and physically turned away from Ray and their fragile cracked relationship shatters. The words Sand has been dreading this whole time were thrown into his face, in a stronger relationship Sand would have the courage to ask Ray what Mew means to him. If they had fixed the foundations before, they would be able to talk.
Ray sees no way out, Sand sees nothing to mourn.

So what did you think of the ‘Sleepaway Camp’ sequels’ much more satirical tone and them going with Angela’s motives for murder having had absolutely nothing to do with her being trans? Like to say yes, she’s trans, she’s a slasher villain, but she’s not a slasher villain because she’s trans, or trans because she’s a slasher villain. Like that franchise would be killer for a new film if they stuck to that.
Full disclosure, I've only seen the first two Sleepaway Camp films. However, I completely agree with your take.
The second film has a way more comedic tone, closer to something like Texas Chainsaw 2 or Bride of Chucky than a slasher played straight. It ALSO establishes that Angela received actual gender affirming care between films, making her a much more explicit example of trans representation.
But yeah, generally I think that once you separate her homicidal tendencies from her transgender identity, she becomes much more palatable. The franchise will always have baggage, but I think the more satirical direction does work.
The only thing is: I think you'd need the writer/director to be trans, and an actual transgender actress playing Angela. There needs to be that sense that this isn't anti trans sentiment, it's trans people reappropriating this medium to tell our own stories.
This is all totally off the cuff though, so apologies if any of my phrasing or thoughts seem off.

Summer Lovin - E.M
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Best Friend!Reader
Tag List: @adampage @snarkandsarcasmftw (lemme know if you wanna be removed, bbs)
Warnings: NO ST4 spoilers!, smut in later segments probably, jealousy
Synopsis: Eddie’s best friend convinces him to be summer camp counselors for two months which leads to another agreement for two months
You do not have permission to copy, translate or copy my fics onto another website
Tumblr media
The summer always brought promises of something new. No more school, the freedom to do as you pleased. Eddie Munson was my best friend. He and I had known each other since my freshman year. Thick as thieves, my mom always told us. She was right. Either way, Eddie was in a bad mood. Only a few days ago he was informed that he would be repeating senior year, again. I tried to help him look on the bright side. This coming year, he could graduate alongside me now. That only managed to lighten his mood a little bit. Now it was summer and I was determined to do more than just sit in the Munson trailer smoking weed and watching movies.
“A….summer camp?” Eddie asked, a small frown on his face as he surveyed the flier I handed him.
“Yeah, a summer camp.” I answered with a shrug. It was a camp not too far from Hawkins and they were looking for counselors to hire for two months.
“Will Jason’s mom be there?”
“Eddie.”
“It’s a fair question, babe!” Eddie smirked and set aside the flyer. “So, tell me why I’d wanna go out into the middle of fuck shit nowhere with a bunch of kids?” He asked as he stretched back out on his bed.
“Well first of all, it’s a job. We’d be paid to do it. Plus, it could be fun. Ya know stereotypical summer camp shit.”
“Like getting murdered by someone for banging in the cabins.”
“Edward.”
Eddie lifted his head to make a face at me for using his formal name. I giggled. “You wanna do stereotypical summer camp shit?” He asked, and I nodded quickly. “I dunno, princess…”
Eddie knew me. He knew I wouldn’t go without him. Two months without my best friend? He might not even let me go on that basis alone. There was hardly a day we didn’t see or speak to one another. “C’mon, Eds. It’ll just be two months. Two months of being paid to watch some kids and have some fun of our own when we aren’t doing that. Senior year is coming and I wanna have the experience.” I explained, “Pleeeease?”
His head flopped back down onto the mattress. He knew what was coming. “Y/N…”
“Eddiiiiieeeee!” I whined, stomping my foot like a petulant child. “Please, Eds? Just two months! Please?” I pleaded, giving him my best puppy eyes.
Eddie’s head lifted momentarily and the second he saw me I knew he was a goner. He squeezed his eyes shut and groaned, resting his head back again and cursing under his breath. “Okay, princess. We’ll do it.” He mumbled and I grinned.
“Thank you, Eddie!” I laughed, snatching up the flier to tuck into my bag so I could call and register ourselves as counselors.
Eddie’s hand reached out and his fingers wiggled at me. I quickly kicked off my shoes, crawling into bed beside him and settling down at his side. His arm wrapped around me. “One day, you’re gonna kill me.” He grumbled.
“Not any day soon.”
—-------------------------------------
Registering had been easy. They only wanted out names and some basic information. The owner of the summer camp let me know how to find the place and I quickly marked it on the map. When the day came for Eddie and I to go, I had all of my bags packed up. The night before I spent the evening at the trailer making sure Eddie packed things he actually would need. Not just throwing a couple t-shirts and jeans into a bag with some deodorant. The entire time Eddie cracked jokes as I added more things into his bag I thought he might need. Most of which were Friday the 13th or Sleepaway Camp related.
“Y/N!”
“Yeah, mom?!” I called down from my room as I shoved a couple last minute items into my bag.
“Eddie is here!”
“Coming!” I yelled back, reaching for my sneakers to pull them up.
From the sound on the stairs, I knew Eddie was jogging up them. A second later he appeared in the door, an Eggo waffle between his teeth. “Ready?” He asked, the sound muffled by the toaster treat in his mouth.
I reached out and took the Eggo from him, taking a bite. “Ready.” I grinned as he frowned at me.
“Mine.” He took it back and shoved it into his mouth, walking around me and picking up my bag. I let Eddie out of my room first before shutting off my light and following him down the stairs.
Mom was waiting at the bottom of the stairs with a cooler in hand. “Mom,” I whined and she shook her head at me.
“You guys have to drive at least a few hours outside of Hawkins for this camp and you need something! I’ve got juice boxes, water, sandwiches and snacks made. Eddie, I put in those fruit snacks you like, honey. Please make sure to actually eat a sandwich on this trip, dear.” Mom gave him a pointed look.
Eddie saluted before shoving the last bit of Eggo waffle into his mouth. “Can do, Mrs.Y/L/N.” He answered with a mouthful of waffle.
Mom gave him a look before hanging over the cooler to me and grabbing a small stack of Eggos, handing them off as well. “Okay, get on the road you two. And drive safely!” She shot Eddie another look.
We walked out the door, quickly heading for Eddie’s van. Eddie slid the side door open, dropping my bag with his own. I set the cooler up so it was behind the driver and passenger seat before sliding the door shut. Eddie pulled open the passenger door and I climbed in, settling in my seat as Eddie shut my door and walked around to climb into his van. “Alright, let’s get this shit show on the road, huh?” He grinned, starting up his van. Billy Idol flowed through his speakers and he pulled away from my house, already singing along to ‘Rebel Yell’.
—-----------------------------
The drive had been problem free for the most part. I was able to navigate us towards the camp much to Eddie’s whining about how I might get us lost. When we pulled up to the camp there were other teens who had applied to be counselors for the summer. A few familiar faces from Hawkins were there as well. As soon as we were parked and out of the van it was a flurry of things to do. The counselors were corralled into the lodge so that the owner of the camp could speak to us. The entire time, Eddie was glued to my side. He eyed the rest of the teens warily, especially the ones we went to school with that were here. Even in the lodge as we were being spoken to his chest was pressed against my back and I could feel the distrust radiating off of him. The second it was mentioned we would have counselor cabins separated by gender, Eddie’s hand gripped my hip.
“Wait, so you have to be in a separate cabin from me?” He bent down to whisper.
I turned my head and nodded. “Guess so.” I whispered back, and he frowned. “You’ll be fine, Eddie.” I told him and he shook his head.
“Not likely.” He murmured. Knowing Eddie, if he hated sleeping in the cabin with the other boys he’d either try to sneak into the girls cabin to find me or end up in his van.
Even separating to grab out bags and go to our cabins made him unhappy. He held onto the belt loop of my shorts, trying to keep me from walking away. “Eds, you’re gonna be fine.” I told him, trying to pry his fingers from my shorts.
“You know I hate being somewhere different without you.” He whined, tugging me closer to him. I squeaked as I stumbled forward.
“It’s just as night, Eddie. You’ll see me in other parts of the day. I promise.” He had always been one to want familiarity. Admittedly, I didn’t think about how this might take him out of his comfort zone but I also hadn’t known the cabins wouldn’t be coed. He knew how to handle himself but since we became best friends, we hadn’t left one another alone long.
“Fine.” Eddie huffed, letting go of my shorts.
“Thank you. I’ll see you inside, ok? I’m just gonna drop my bags.” I patted his chest and turned, heading for the girls cabin that was beside the boys one. As I got closer to the cabin, I heard the girls talking and giggling. A few looked at me then back over at Eddie before climbing the stairs into the cabin. I went inside, trying to ignore the eyes on me. I picked a bed in a corner by a window, setting my bag on the bed.
“Hey!”
I looked up. A blonde girl stood there, leaning on the post of the bunk bed. She had her hair up in a tight ponytail secured by a blue scrunchie. She had light makeup on with a pair of sneakers, denim shorts and a white tanktop on. “...Hi?” I murmured back.
She smiled brightly. “I’m Janet. So, the girls and I were curious…” She glanced back at her friends, “Is that guy your boyfriend?” She giggled.
I stared at her. She thought Eddie was my boyfriend? Why was she asking me that? A sudden tightness settled in my chest. Did she want to know because she was interested? “Why?” I asked her.
Her eyes widened a little and she held a hand out. “He is then! Damn, I’m sorry. We were just wondering cause he’s like… kinda cute. Even if he’s kind of a weirdo. Just thought he’d be a fun summer fling, ya know?” She grinned with a wink.
I opened my mouth. I was going to tell her Eddie wasn’t my boyfriend. But then something snapped in my brain. “Yeah, he is my boyfriend.” I quickly answered. The little green monster was out, stirring deep in my belly.
Janet smiled. “I figured, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask. I mean… you two are super cute and the way he wouldn’t let you go.” She giggled. “So, how long have you guys been together?” Soon the other girls that had been with Janet joined us, crowding around my bunk bed.
“Uhm,” Don’t make it obvious, you liar. “Well, I’ve known him for four years now. Dating for three.” Sounded reasonable enough.
“Awww! That’s so cute!” One of the girls gushed. She reached out, touching the necklace hanging around my neck. It was a simple thin chain with a guitar charm hanging off of it. “He give you this?”
“Yeah.” I nodded quickly. “One year anniversary gift.” Birthday gift.
“That’s adorable. Does he play?” Janet asked and I nodded again.
“Yeah, he does. He has a band.” I answered and she gasped.
“He looks that cute and is in a band? And plays guitar?” She looked at the other girls.
“We missed out.” One of the girls laughed, “Good for you though…?”
“Y/N.” I murmured.
“Y/N, well, we’ll see you in the lodge to greet the kiddos when they come.” Janet grinned, pulling the other two girls away.
“Yeah, bye.” What the fuck did I just do?
After setting up my bag, I quickly left the cabin. Something told me those girls would try to talk to Eddie. And if they did they might find out I lied. Why couldn’t I just have kept my stupid mouth shut?! As I got closer to the lodge I saw Eddie leaning against a tree smoking a cigarette. I quickly went over to him and he looked up, catching me practically running over to him. “What happened? You okay?” Eddie asked as I got closer, worry flashing across his face.
“I… I did something.” I admitted to him.
Eddie’s brow furrowed. “You… did something? What did you do?” He asked me.
I chewed on my lower lip. “I-I might have lied to some girls.” I murmured.
“So?” I frowned and smacked his chest. “Ow!” He rested his hand over his pectoral where I had just smacked.
“So… I mighta lied and said we were dating.” I practically whispered, hanging my head. I kicked at the dirt under my feet.
“You… I didn’t quite catch that. You did what?” Eddie asked and I whined. His fingers gently grabbed my chin, tilting my head back. “You did what?” He repeated.
“I…” I whined and flailed my hands in frustration at my sides. “These girls were staring at you and they might have asked me if we were dating and I lied and said yes but didn’t think before my mouth moved and I don’t know why I did that and I might have just ruined your chance to have a summer fling with some random girls, ok?” I quickly spat out, looking up at Eddie.
He opened and closed his mouth, letting go of my chin. “They… wanted a summer fling with me?” He questioned and I nodded slowly. “And you told them that I was your boyfriend?”
“Y-Yeah.” I mumbled, playing with my fingers. “Are you mad at me?” I whispered, pressing my lips together and looking at the tree behind Eddie.
“Y/N, no. I’m not mad at you.” Eddie chuckled, shaking his head. “You know though…”
“What?”
“You just told people we’re dating. So while we’re at this camp, I’m your boyfriend.” He grinned.
“Soooo?” I asked, looking at him confused.
“Think about it.” He urged, “Those girls wanted me as a what?”
“Summer fling?” I answered. After a second, I opened my mouth again. “Ooooh. Wait, are you insinuating…”
“Wanna have a summer fling?” He smirked, nudging his sneaker against mine.
“Edward.”
“Stop calling me that!”
“Are you saying… you wanna have a summer fling with your best friend?” I asked him. Temporary. It’d be just two months.
“I mean, we don’t really date unless there’s some hidden guy you’ve been seeing and not telling me about. Which would be fucked up. You know I’m not seeing anyone so… why not have fun for two months? And then we go back to how we were when we go home.”
It sounded too good. Just being romantic for two months then going back home to being best friends like nothing happened? I looked at Eddie. The sun was shining behind him, illuminating his soft brown curls that I knew were soft because I had touched them many times before. His big brown eyes looked at me expectantly, waiting for an answer. Eddie was pretty. I had noticed before. He was really pretty. I nodded my head. “Yes.” I answered softly.
Eddie smirked. “Yes?” He chuckled, holding a hand out to me.
I took his hand in mine. “Yes.” I answered more firmly. I squeaked as Eddie pulled at my hand, pulling me into his chest.
“Y/N Y/L/N, my summer girlfriend.” Eddie chuckled, wrapping his arms around me.
I felt butterflies erupt in my stomach. “Eddie Munson, my summer boyfriend.” I murmured, playing with the guitar pick necklace I made him a few years back.
This was going to be an interesting summer.

homophobia is so sick and twisted bc Henry is meant to be a harlot!! HIS THIGHS SHOULD BE OUT!! instead he’s left to pine like a fair maiden 😒
could you imagine a universe where henry wasn't crushed under the weight of a homophobic society? could you imagine his power? he'd rule all of hawkins and then he'd move onto the world. he'd be an it girl. a heartbreaker. the kind of person you see and when you're forced to take a second look, he's smiling knowingly. he easily snags steve and never lets him go--and steve is just too damn pleased to ever question it. (the good news is, he's in the 80s. he could have his thighs out despite everything. think the men's looks from sleepaway camp)

For the prompts!
19. Summer camp AU and 59. Interrupted Declaration of Love for Finn/Poe pretty please!❤
Send in 2 numbers and a character or ship and I’ll write a lil blurb!!
Oh my, Em, this is a superb combo!!!
And surprise, I ended up writing what amounts to an 850 word summary of a much longer theoretical fic, so we'll pop it under a cut.
Right off the bat, I'm picturing a larger sleepaway camp that spans middle and high school, with Poe as a counselor for the youngest kiddos and Finn as a counselor for incoming juniors or seniors.
Poe is so good with the younger kids, of course he is. He comforts the ones who are missing home because it's their first time away from their parents for so long, he's great at reorienting their energy and keeping up with how lively they are. And obviously the older kids can be a handful too, but Finn can be a little more subdued with them and he takes them seriously and talks to them like equals, which they like and respect.
They've both been working the camp together for a few years, now, and they've become real close and last summer, the last night there was this moment where they were sitting up late together on the last night and Poe was thinking about maybe, possibly just...
But he'd lost his nerve.
And then this summer they get back for the all-staff meeting before campers are due to arrive the next day, and they fall back into their old vibe so quickly and so easily and Poe lies awake half the night thinking about it, and then the other half of the night hyping himself up to pull Finn away from breakfast and confess his feelings.
Unfortunately for Poe, his sleepless night leads to him accidentally sleeping through breakfast. He stumbles out of bed and cleans himself a little bit, but he feels like a mess and looks it, too, by the way Finn asks if he feels alright when he barely makes it to the meeting that morning on time.
But Finn's eyes are so kind when he asks...
The second the meeting is over, Poe nudges Finn's side and mumbles, "Hey, can we talk for a sec?"
On the shore of the little lake where they've spent countless hours over the past few years -- laughing over the campers during the day, chatting in the dead of night when their kids have gone to bed -- Poe fidgets with his hands and gets about as far as, "I've just been thinking... I'd really like it if maybe..."
And then, from a little further along the shore, one of the other counselors calls out to tell them that the first bus of campers is arriving.
Poe feels like an idiot until Finn squeezes his arm and says, "We'll finish this tonight, okay?" and the sweet smile playing at Finn's lips is telling enough.
Poe's not anxious in the slightest, now.

The One Where Hopper's Office Definitely Doesn't Catch Fire
Written for Harringrove Week July 2022! Prompt: last day of summer camp
Fics for this event: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
Rated Gen, 2.3k
Summary:
“Hey, Harrington!” a new but familiar voice booms. “Enjoying being president of the Geek Squad, I see.”
Yeah, Steve might miss the kids, but he’s not going to miss this.
read on ao3
--
The last day of camp is always bittersweet.
Granted, there are sessions that are more sweet than bitter (the one at the beginning of the summer, with Troy and James, comes to mind), but this was actually a good one. Steve got real lucky with his group these last two weeks; everyone got along with everyone else. Of course, he had high hopes as soon as Jonathan told him his and Nancy’s little brothers were going to be in Steve’s cabin, which he somehow knew before the official assignments were released. Steve suspects he may have edited the list himself, off the books, but he’s not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth because the boys were great. And they got awesome cabin mates, too. Dustin and Lucas were down for anything Steve threw at them, and by the end of the two weeks, the four boys were fast friends. Dustin in particular wormed his way right into Steve’s heart, the little shit. He still isn’t sure how the kid pulled it off.
“Oh, that’s my mom!” the camper in question says, shading his eyes against the sun and squinting at the cars pulling in to pick up their kids. He turns quickly, curly hair bobbing with the movement, and throws his arms around Steve’s torso. Steve lets out a startled “oof” but hugs Dustin back.
“Alright, kiddo, it was awesome to have you here but it’s time to go,” Steve says, attempting to ruffle Dustin’s hair before he ducks away. Damnit, unsuccessful again.
“Have fun!” Dustin calls as he runs to his mom’s car.
“Be safe!” Steve shouts back, waving at the car until it pulls out of the parking lot.
He feels a presence at his shoulder before he even turns around, but he knows exactly who it is. He and Nancy, as the current longest serving counselors at Hawkins Summer Camp besides Tommy and Carol, have forged a bond few can match. They’ve just about managed to convince the rest of the counselors that it includes telepathy.
“Last one?” Nancy asks.
“Yep,” Steve replies, popping the “p” obnoxiously. “Now the real work can begin.”
They stare at each other for a moment before Nancy turns and dashes up the hill behind them, leaving Steve in the dust.
“No fair!” Steve yells, sprinting behind her. “That’s a head start and you know it, Wheeler!”
“Not my fault you were too slow to catch on!” She laughs as she says it, and soon Steve’s laughing too, struggling to continue moving even though his cabin’s literally a few steps away. He sees Nancy disappearing into hers just as he’s stepping through his door. Hah. She may be smarter by miles, but he’s still faster.
Besides, he’s got the next part down to a science. Because it’s a sleepaway camp and the counselors are paid to be there literally all summer, it’s their responsibility to get the cabins cleaned up and ready in the few days between sessions. This is a little different, since it’s the last session of the summer, but it starts the same. Steve’s been doing this long enough to be able to strip four twin beds in just over thirty seconds. (Robin timed him once. It was a race between him, Nancy, and Jonathan. Steve won by a landslide.) And, unlike Nancy, who actually has a laundry hamper that she uses to tote clothes back and forth from the main cabin, Steve just piles everything inside one of the fitted bedsheets and runs.
By the time Nancy skids into the laundry room, panting and determined, Steve’s leaning back against the wall, arms crossed over his chest to disguise how he’s still breathing heavily himself. All four washing machines are currently occupied by roughly equal portions of sheets and pillowcases. That was the first lesson Steve learned as a counselor: the machines break if you try to wash two sets of sheets at once.
“Damnit,” Nancy mutters, then louder, “God damn you, Steve Harrington!”
He just chuckles, and she shakes her head as she smiles. There was a time when Steve would have been scared half to death hearing those words out of Nancy’s mouth, but it’s long past.
Just then, footsteps echo from down the hall, heralding the approach of none other than Robin. “Steve, my man!” she says as she walks right past Nancy to give Steve a bro hug, knocking their fists together in what could almost be considered a fist bump.
“Robin, my dude!” he answers, returning the fist whack with more enthusiasm than is probably warranted. He tries to ruffle her hair but she skips out of his reach, wrapping her arm around Nancy’s waist with a smug grin. He’s now oh for two. Great.
“I feel betrayed,” Nancy complains, despite the fact that she’s now leaning fully into Robin’s side. “What does Steve have that I don’t?”
“Bro status,” he and Robin answer in synch. It’s enough to make Nancy laugh, and Steve’s heart fills with warmth at the beaming grin Robin’s sporting.
“So I see you got here first,” she says to Steve, gesturing vaguely toward the hamper of sheets that Nancy dropped on the floor at some point. “What’s the damage?”
“Well, nobody drew on the walls with Sharpie this time,” Steve muses, hand on his chin, “so it probably just needs a good sweeping and I’ll be home free.”
“My girls were wonderful,” Nancy brags, as though both Steve and Robin didn’t know that already. Steve and Nancy’s cabins always end up spending a lot of their free time together, since it’s the only time Steve gets to talk to Nancy (except when they all sneak out of their cabins in the middle of the night to light up with Jonathan). And in the last couple of years, Robin’s been joining them more and more often. Steve didn’t get to know her kids that well, but Nancy’s somehow integrated themselves into his cabin. It was great to see Jane and Max put the boys in their place, and hilarious when it came to Lucas bickering with his sister. Seriously, Steve could watch that shit all day. What was even better was the sheer multitude of arguments Erica won, despite being the younger sibling.
Robin plants a kiss on the top of Nancy’s head before pulling away gently. “I’ll go sweep your cabin for you, babe,” she says, and Nancy smiles gratefully. “Steve, you’re on your own.”
“Hey!” he shouts indignantly. “What does she have that I don’t?”
“Girlfriend privileges,” Nancy and Robin reply in unison. Steve gives Robin’s retreating back the finger as she leaves the room. After a moment, a pale hand comes back around the doorway, flipping Steve off.
Ah, the love shared between fellow counselors.
* * *
“I am going to miss those kids, though,” Nancy says, swirling her straw around her glass of lemonade.
They’re all sitting at one of the picnic tables in the pavilion, her, Robin, Steve, and Jonathan. It’s Jonathan’s fault they’re still there; on the last day of camp, the counselors are allowed to leave whenever they finish cleaning their cabins, but his sheets are still in the dryer and, for whatever reason, the four of them have established what essentially boils down to a suicide pact wherein none of them can leave until everyone’s ready to go. Steve has never benefitted from this clause in the Camp Counselor’s Guidebook, since he’s consistently one of the first people done, but he figures he can probably use it to cash in some favors down the line.
“Yeah,” Steve sighs. “I’m gonna miss the little brats too.”
“Ohoho!” Robin chuckles with far too much glee. “He called them ‘brats’! You must have really liked these ones. I don’t think I’ve ever heard you refer to a group of campers as anything other than ‘little shits’ or ‘motherfuckers’ since I started working here.”
“Yeah, yeah, laugh it up,” Steve says. “The only reason I didn’t is because I know Nancy and Jonathan would each kick my ass if I called their little brothers ‘motherfuckers.’”
“Damn straight,” Nancy says as though she isn’t currently melting into Robin’s side. Jonathan doesn’t have to say anything. They all remember, or at least have heard stories about, the time Tommy of all people had to pull them apart Steve’s second summer working at Hawkins. But that’s water under the bridge now.
“Hey, Harrington!” a new but familiar voice booms. “Enjoying being president of the Geek Squad, I see.”
Yeah, Steve might miss the kids, but he’s not going to miss this.
“Sure am, Billy,” he says, looking up at the chiseled fucking Adonis statue striding toward their table. “Why don’t you join? You could be the secretary, I’d love to have you working under me.”
Robin gags exaggeratedly next to him, which Steve supposes is fair, but Billy’s eyes light up. “Someone’s got some fire today!” he crows. “Speaking of which, what say you and I go set fire to Hopper’s office? You know, as a little goodbye present.”
Steve scoffs. “So you can implicate me in the resulting arson case? Thanks, but I’ll pass.”
“Dunno what all this ‘King Steve’ business was about,” Billy fires back. “You’re not much fun, you know that, Harrington?” He moves on before Steve has a chance to reply, turning to Nancy. “How was my shitbird sister, huh? She treat you nice?”
“Max was a pleasure to have in class,” Nancy says, her voice the kind of saccharine that makes Steve’s blood run cold. That’s her “I could drag you to hell and back” voice. Steve should know. He’s seen it happen.
But he loses track of that conversation, focus returning to Billy saying he isn’t fun. Something about the guy pushes his buttons. It’s almost like he’s doing it on purpose, just to Steve specifically, and has been since the beginning of the summer. If it were anyone else Steve would let it go, but he finds himself rising to his feet behind the table and leaning forward so he can stab a finger intimidatingly toward Billy’s face. “Hey, who was the first person to agree to your little night swimming adventure last session?”
“Tommy,” Billy says without missing a beat, smirking just a little.
“Okay.” Steve regains his footing quickly; he honestly shouldn’t be that surprised. “Who was the second person?”
“Heather.” Billy crosses his arms over his chest, smirk growing wider, and Steve falters a little.
“Fucking hell, really?” When Billy just nods, Steve narrows his eyes at him. “Alright, but I came.”
“I’m sure you did, pretty boy.” Billy winks and Steve feels himself flush all the way down his neck. Fuck. It’s not as fun when the jokes are being made at his expense.
Their eyes remain locked for a few more seconds, Billy’s eyebrow raised in a challenge while Steve calculates just how likely it is he’ll actually get murdered if he jumps the table and punches him in the nose. Then a throat clears to Steve’s left, and he remembers they’re not alone.
“I hate to interrupt this weird-as-fuck mating ritual,” Robin starts, and the faintest spots of color bloom high on Billy’s cheeks. Huh. “But Jonathan, I think your laundry is ready.”
“I’ll come help you with it,” Nancy rushes out, practically vaulting over the bench she was sitting on. Steve watches the three of them traipse down to the main cabin before turning back to Billy.
“Well, guess that’s my cue,” he says, straightening up slowly and stretching his arms over his head. He thinks, for a moment, that Billy’s eyes drift to his stomach when his shirt rides up, but before Steve can even hope to confirm, Billy’s got that easy, infuriating grin back on his face.
“Are you sure you don’t want to give this place a proper sendoff? We could put one of the canoes on the lake and shoot flaming arrows at it, Viking-funeral style.”
The scary thing about that idea is that they could absolutely do it. The canoes are right down by the beach, and the archery equipment is locked away for the summer but Steve knows where the key is. Tie a little cloth to the arrowhead, dip it in the bottle of whiskey Steve definitely hasn’t had stashed in his bag all summer, and boom! Weapon of questionable legality. It’s so easy to imagine, actually.
The scarier thing is that, for a moment, Steve seriously considers it.
But something on his face must read as a rebuff, because Billy shrugs and says, “Your loss,” like Jonathan did when Steve refused to try the new strain of weed he’d gotten his hands on. Steve rolls his eyes at that, reminding himself that he absolutely hates Billy and does not want to spend any more time with him.
Enjoy your last few days of summer,” Billy says, clapping him on the shoulder as he walks past. It sounds like a threat, distracting enough that Steve almost doesn’t feel the slight pressure against his back pocket. He whirls around, fully prepared to curse Billy out, but he’s already yards away, whistling through his teeth with his hands shoved into his own pockets. Steve watches him go, hand drifting absently to the pocket Billy just violated. He’s not sure what the point of it was until his fingers close around a scrap of paper. When he pulls it out, he has to admit he’s surprised by what’s on it. There, in clear, neat print, reads 317-555-0806. There’s no name. Steve is pretty sure Billy knows he won’t need one.
“What did he say to you?” a voice asks at his shoulder, and he jumps, startled by Robin and her unusually silent approach.
“Nothing,” he says, hurriedly stuffing the paper into his other pocket. “Just, uh, just goodbye.”
Robin hums, looking unconvinced, but she doesn’t comment. They watch as a blue Camaro peels out of the now sparse parking lot, engine revving obnoxiously as it goes. Steve rubs the paper in his pocket between his fingers. There’s no way in hell he’s going to call that number. In fact, he’s going to throw it away as soon as he gets home. Yup, it’s going straight in the trash. End of story.
(Steve does not throw it away.)

Fitzgerald Edward Sudermann was born right smack in the middle of the Sudermann pack, sandwiched between a couple of older siblings and several that came quickly after him. He was really only the baby of the family for less than a year before his younger sibling joined the family right on his tail. The Sudermann parents were bibliophiles to the utmost degree, naming all of their children after their favorite authors. It wasn't anything that Fitz really understood until he started kindergarten and couldn't understand why none of his friends could figure out how to write his name like he could.
To anyone looking in from the outside, the Sudermann family had everything. They were a happy family, full of bright and happy children. But that vision cracked when Fitzy was just 14. It seemed like a completely normal day, looking back. His father dropped him and the rest of his siblings off at school, but when they got home, their mom was just...gone. Mr. Sudermann tried to hide the full extent of what had happened from the kids and it was only Fitzy and the older kids that actually began to piece together what had happened based on the limited information their dad gave them, word from neighbors, and the rumors the town was abundant in. Their mother had up and left the family, running off with a boyfriend that none of them had known anything about. None of the Sudermanns ever heard anything from her again.
Mr. Sudermann kept the family limping along with the help of the older kids. Fitzy helped by watching his younger siblings, one of them only 4 years younger than himself. During the summers, their father began to send them to a sleepaway summer camp, which at first seemed like an unexpected treat. Years later, Fitz realized that it was probably for his dad's sake as much as their own. Camp suited him, though. He had always made friends quickly and that didn't stop at camp. When he was old enough, he became a CIT and then a counselor, he had always been good with kids after all. This was also where he first met one Delfia Ramos.
Delfia was another counselor and even the kids that they worked with could tell that Fitzy like-liked Delfia. It was just about the entire camp that wanted the two to be together and finally at the end of the summer, Fitz worked up the nerve to make his move. And it was perfect. But of course, the summer was ending and with that, he had to go home.

Fitz and his family just moved to Huntsville, an unexpected move but it was for their dad's job. While Fitz could have stayed, he decided to go with his family so that he could continue to help his dad with the siblings that are still in school. He got a job at the Huntsville Elementary School as a teacher's assistant.

Siblings - Give me more Sudermann kids please. There are a couple that are older than Fitz and one that's really close to him in age, as well as at least two that are still in school. GIve 'em all author's names, the more ridiculous the better.
Camp friends - People that he met through summer camp that he can reconnect with now that his family has moved.
always more
