Alex - Body by Sleeping at Last | Alternatively: erase me by Liz McAlpine

This one is kind of straightforward - feels like an introductory song to her, and the talk of “Magic in our bones” and this tidbit from the singer (“Body” is a song about intuition. The first thing I began singing, before the song was a song, was “i feel it in my bones.” – which is something we say when we don’t know why, but we just know something. It’s another version of a “gut feeling” – I loved that those idioms speak to the physical body and intuition at the same time.) ties to one of her abilities, her instinct.

I listened to this song a lot when I write things about her.

Erase me is the song I listen to when I imagine the point after Jacob is 9, and Alex is living with him, raising him alone, trying to understand and consolidate her feelings for his father, facing a lot of conflict with them.

Alliecat - No Matter What You Say by Imperial Teen | Music Video | Alternatively: Honey Tea by OOHYO

THIS SONG!!! Alliecat’s journey as she grew older surrounded a lot of people pleasing and her becoming an adult and choosing her path for herself.

The music video has her FC in it and gave me a great deal of inspiration around the time she found out she was a princess and having to deal with the council at her Kingdom at the time berating her because she grew up in the human realm, and forcing her into this idealized and traditional box they wanted her in.

The song represents her wanting to break out of that, staying true to herself while caring for the internal Alliecat that was hurt and rebellious and sad. It’s representative of her freedom of choice and finally taking the lead and speaking out, which is HUGE for Allie. She used to never speak out against anyone when she was younger, much less people that took care of her (Kai, Kori, Alex) or leaders/adults in her life (later on the council/the others in the Kingdom)

EDIT: Honey Tea is just a cute song that makes me think of Allie at a cafe shop wearing something fashionable and drinking hot chocolate.

Jacob - Horizons by Gus Dapperton | Alternatively: Anchor by Mindy Gledhill

This song always felt like a Jacob song to me and I’m not sure why. Looking up the meaning of it results in the song talking about a stranger that’s lost and trying to find their way out - listening to the melody and the beat and everything makes me imagine and follow Jacob’s journey as he’s grown up. His parentage, his queerness, his life surrounded not just by blood family (Alex’s side) but by the found family too, but navigating and understanding himself better as he’s grown older before hitting the climax where he’s grown up and knows himself better.

Anchor feels light and floaty to me, discussing the aspects of Jacob’s life that feel fantastical, magical, and surrounded by space and galaxies. It makes me think of how he, like his mother, has a huge imagination that wanders to worlds unknown and imagines himself exploring these worlds.

Kairo - Pluto Project by Rex Orange County | Alternatively: Baby Don’t Cry by K.Flay

The song straight up starts off with “The Great Protector, is that what I’m supposed to be?” Kairo has always had internal doubts about having the Guardian soul and being destined to save the lands. That responsibility was supposed to be for her mother, who was murdered, and the soul chose Kairo. And although it’s saved her many a time, she’s hated it. Deeply hated it. Felt it was a cruel reminder of “her failure”, and having the responsibility sit like a poltergeist in her life of saving The Lands from the Hunters was not what she ever wanted.

But the song goes on to talk about their relationship with their partner, which makes me think of her previous relationship to Matias. The following melody and lyrics makes me think of the people in Kai’s life she’s cared about: Kori, Alliecat, Alex, Gus (her husband in MV), and the melody just sort of follows Kai’s life in the human realm until it hits the orchestra which is the point she accepts her journey to becoming Guardian and resolves to save The Lands.

Baby Don’t Cry is just the badass song because Kai is a badass bitch who genuinely doesn’t cry often and would “rub some dirt in it” and keep going.

Kori - Misguided Ghosts by Paramore | Alternatively: Stay Alive by Jose Gonzalez

This one especially explains Kori to a tee; he’s an individual that falls victim to the same thing Alliecat does with people pleasing but for Kori it’s a much more intense level. He does everything he can to help everybody else and refuses help or care for himself. He’s scared to let anyone in and the only ones who know/knew of The World Eater are Kai, Alliecat and Alex. He doesn’t want people to see “the monster he is”.

He overworks himself horrendously and ends up disappearing multiple times because he’s so exhausted that the World Eater breaks his control. This song represents the lowest point in his life where Kori fights against the seals on him and the World Eater. It’s one of the points of his story that is indicative to when he chooses to finally open up to how tired and sad he is to his friends and when they step in to help him.

(Around the time this happens, Loki has just disappeared from Alex’s life to turn himself in, Kai just broke off her engagement to Matias and was moving after giving birth to her twins, and Alliecat lost Thorn and was recovering from her car accident, which was mostly why he refused reaching out to them. Spoiler warning: They still show up for him anyways.)

Stay Alive reflects the lighter side of Kori; his optimism to see everything beautiful in life, the kindness in people, and the love that lives on whether platonic or romantic. To think of humans and the supernatural experiencing their lives and enjoying every little joy it has to offer, and determination to live to see his friends’ happiness come to fruition. More than once he’s saved Kairo’s life when she was at her lowest and pushed her on, sometimes physically, to continue living. And is endlessly grateful to his friends who have done the same for him.

Thor - Sweet Child O’ Mine (Orchestral Cover) by Baltic House Orchestra

This one is pretty on the nose because this song was used for Love And Thunder, but I love to think of Thor���s journey of like a tragic hero’s journey. He’s lost so much yet pushed hard and never lost his kindness or warmth or his silly attitude through it. More the melody for me represents Thor (not the lyrics) and his intense journey of reclaiming his godhood after it was stripped (Thor 1), his destiny to be King and turning it down (Dark World), his emotional journey of putting distance between him and his brother before Loki decided to help him (Ragnarok & Infinity War) and where he is now of working through his trauma, keeping close to his loved ones (Valkyrie, Korg, Jacob & Alex) and seeing his duty through keeping peace in the realms while checking in on his family.

Viola has no specific song just yet because I hadn’t written her in a while ❤️

Zara - Asleep Among Endives by Ichiko Aoba

The slow melody and the meaning of the song (“The lyrics convey a sense of comfort and safety in each other's presence, as the world around them fades away and they become hidden from view”) feels representative of Zara finding Alliecat and learning what it meant to be safe and cared for for the first time in her life. A life free of the abuse and slavery she endured, she’s cared for and brought into a new perspective of the world, which was still scary for her.

Allie is her twin and she finds safety and familial love with her, learning to be a person again. Her re-introduction to the family that openly accepts her as she is and understands her trauma, her pain (physical and emotional), and helps her grow.

I get that the bookshop fire was traumatic for Crowley because he thought he lost Aziraphale.

I keep seeing people say they want Aziraphale to know what it would feel like to lose Crowley, but I'm pretty sure my eyes weren't the only ones open when this happened...

Right?

"And that was the last I was to see of Crowley for some time."

Aziraphale has lost Crowley. To Hell.

He could do nothing to stop what happened in Edinburgh, and I can't imagine that he didn't fear he'd lost Crowley for good here.

Aziraphale has experienced more heartbreak than some fans care to even acknowledge. He exists in constant fear of losing Crowley to Hell again. AGAIN.

We saw Aziraphale save Crowley from Hell in 1941 with the human magic trick he used on Furfur.

Aziraphale was the one sitting in the bathtub of holy water after the Notpocalypse, knowing this was the reason he'd been so scared to hand Crowley his own thermos of holy water in the first place.

He's lost Crowley to Hell before and he will do anything to prevent it from happening again.

That's the impact Edinburgh had on Aziraphale. This is the impact that losing Crowley had on Aziraphale.
