The instant that yours and Morpheus' lips touch, you feel him tense. There’s an acute intake of breath. Then he is a statue. Carved from ice.

You consider pulling back but then the ice begins to melt. 

He’s kissing you back. 

Only very slightly yet it’s all the encouragement you need to keep going.

His lips are just as perfect to kiss as they are to look at.

Soft. And combined with his smooth skin, it is like being caressed by silk.

Within seconds, you are lost in him.

The reaction your body gives is unlike anything you have ever experienced before from a first kiss, or any other kiss for that matter. You are completely overtaken by the oxytocin binding to your neuroreceptors, and there's an additional layer of bliss to cushion your aching heart. It laps over you like a wave soaking the sand at high tide.

An otherworldly sensation. 

You presume it is because he is that entirely. Not of your world.

The thought is sobering. He’s a powerful, ageless, visually stunning being. And you’re a human.

A human going through a crisis. 

You know full well that trying to solve it through intimacy is wrong, regardless of the physical attraction and the burgeoning connection you feel with him on an emotional level.

You pull away.

Out of his personal space and further still. You withdraw into yourself.

"I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that."

Morpheus speaks your name in a whisper.

It takes a great amount of force for you to feel able to look at him.

His eyes are gleaming with tears. He looks so vulnerable.

Vulnerability caused by your actions.

Shame floods through you.

What must you think of me? You question inside your head.

He had been dutifully trying to help you, attempted to bring you comfort, shared what it meant to be the guardian of dreams and apologised for upsetting you, and the only thing you could think to do in that moment was to take advantage of his kindness by kissing him.

You feel despicable.

You're pushing your hands shakily over your scalp. 

He says your name again. There’s real confusion on his face.

"Please can we forget that happened? I've literally just told you about my break up and kissing you, well, it’s a classic rebound reaction. I should know better.”

"Rebounding is a concept created by humans to bring shame to those who have the fortitude to act on their desires."

His words, though they sound seductively logical, do not sway your resolve. 

“That may be true, but it was still massively impulsive of me.”

You watch as his walls go back up, cleaning his face of all feeling and freezing his eyes to a dark, frosty blue.

"Then I will do as you ask and ignore its occurrence."

You exhale with relief.

"I appreciate that."

Morpheus changes the subject so quickly, not even allowing for a second of unease.

"We should return to the library."

"Okay."

You shift into a better position to be able to stand but then he is in front of you and extending a long-fingered hand for you to take.

You hesitate.

"Please, Y/N."

You slip your hand into his grasp.

The skin on skin contact creates a buzzing sensation in the back of your head. Your body was going to take some convincing to detach. 

You think back to his choice of adjective.

Desire.

That was what had happened. A heady moment of desire. One that you had enjoyed, yes, but nothing that could be pursued.

He helps you up gracefully.

"Thank you."

He simply nods and begins to walk back the way you had both originally come.

You fall into step beside him.

You occupy your thoughts by looking at every detail of the dense, green forest.

The textures of the tree bark, the colours of the leaves, the smell of the air.

It’s easier to distract yourself when you get closer to the palace. In your upset, you had completely missed the details of the gorgeous structure before. The pale stone and gleaming copper of the domes and towers. Statues dotted in amongst the architecture. A dragon and a Pegasus that move with their own autonomy greet you at the entrance doors.

It is fantastical.

Once inside, you re-trace the steps you had taken so hurriedly not an hour ago. Through the corridors with their abundance of arches and pillars and swathes of red carpets trimmed with gold.

Once back in the library, Lucienne greets you with a glowing smile.

You all sit down around the table.

Morpheus nods for Lucienne to present their findings.

“We have found the moment when your night terrors started. You were thirteen years old and you had a hallucination about a spider.”

You nod, remembering that well. You had been so convinced that it was dangling above your face that you had hit out at it with all of your limbs in turn.

“The exact same night, there was a small disturbance recorded here.”

Lucienne takes off her glasses.

“Every parasomnia episode that you have had from that moment on has coincided with some unexplained event in the Dreaming. However, because they were low magnitude and happened so infrequently, there was no cause for concern. Until now, of course.”

You wet your lips nervously. You are fearfully replaying Matthew’s words from earlier in your head about what happens to vortexes.

“What course of action are you going to take to stop it from happening again?”

“Well, it appears that it only happens when you are severely stressed or afraid and then have a nightmare,” Lucienne replies.

You look at Morpheus.

“So you could just stop me from having nightmares?”

“I cannot do that. I do not think it wise. Nightmares serve a purpose. They are a necessary means to help you confront your fears.”

His stance is regal and tone unyielding.

You visibly deflate, there will be no persuading him, you are certain.

“What I will do is grant you a reprieve from them until you are less unsettled in your waking life.”

You blink as you process his words before becoming alarmed.

“And what happens the next time something bad happens? I can’t just stay inside and avoid everything and everyone that could potentially upset me. That’s no way to live.”

“I will step in,” he says this like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.

“Wait, let me get this straight. You are going to stop my nightmares every time I feel emotionally out of control?”

“Yes.”

You stare at him in shock.

“If that is agreeable to you,” he adds.

“It is.”

He stands.

“Then it is decided.”

You and Morpheus return to the main doors of the palace and stand on the bridge side by side.

His hands are clasped formally behind his back as he watches you looking out at the gates in the distance that are book-ended by mountains.

Subconscious life bustles in the landscape around you and beyond. Dreamers have been dreaming the entire time you have been here, completely oblivious to the threat you pose to them.

You look up at Morpheus and gesture before you with both hands.

“So you made all of this?”

"Yes.”

“How long did it take you?”

“Eons.”

"I feel privileged to have experienced it in such a lucid way. It's more beautiful than anything I have ever seen.”

“I am pleased you think so.” His voice sounds strained despite his choice of words.

A murmur of Starlings are suddenly dancing in the sky. Clearly someone is dreaming about bird watching.

“You will need to wake up soon,” Morpheus says.

“Oh, okay.” His comment is so abrupt that you can’t help but feel like you are being kicked out.

“I will come and check on you in two weeks.”

He goes to raise his hand and end the dream.

Your heart lurches.

“Morpheus, wait.”

He pauses.

“Thank you. For everything. I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve your kindness but I am really grateful for what you’re doing for me.”

His eyes soften to an ocean blue.

“I meant what I said to Lucienne. I will do my utmost to protect you. You have my word."

What did you think of Saltburn?😊 I‘m waiting for it to get uploaded to my usual pirating website I use lol but idk if I‘d like it because I‘ve heard some people say it lacks substance or some sort of critique. probably better to wait for an hd version, i was too impatient and i don't see it getting a wider release, but i might revisit once hd version is uploaded. it is very much style over substance and i think it's a matter of preference like if that is something you enjoy in your movies or not. there has already been a ton of commentary and criticism about its main problems so i don't want to needlessly repeat. out of all these eat the rich movies it does the poorest in terms of us actually wanting to eat the said rich. there is a twist in the movie, which i obviously won't reveal, that i'm not sure does what it wants to do. the thing that bothered me the most is director emerald fennell saying yeah we make fun of the rich but we also make fun of people wanting to get in. like what? 🧐 that doesn't sit right with me. if i had a friend with a similar background to hers and they said that to me, i'd deck them. rude and classist. i'm ultimately not sure what her aim and point was with the movie. the movie is provocative and debauched but her attempts at that provocation are kinda lazy. anyway, others have already said it all better than me.

now for everything else, great performances all around, i was on the fence about jacob elordi, i didn't really get the hype, but he's quite alright, and of course barry keoghan brilliant as always. visually stunning, the movie gives you everything you expect to see from such a movie. you're expecting stereotypical (dark) academia, talented mr ripley, sort of james ivory-esque vibes, maybe a bit of skins uk if they were aristocrats and that's exactly what you get so in those terms it feels quite satisfying. i know pinterest girlies are having a blast with this one. there were a few scenes that made me gasp. obviously there's that one scene everyone is talking about, but there's a few others that made me say oh my god out loud. and i thought the soundtrack was great. also the final scene was very fun. all in all, it's entertaining, it's crazy, i definitely enjoyed it more than some of my personal highly anticipated 2023 releases, but it ultimately fails to say anything meaningful.

1. i watched this the other day at my friends house so i kind of already know what happens but i wasn’t paying attention AT ALL 😭

2. my other friend when he found out i was on this episode said it was one of the best ones and …. sawray i do not agree xx but maybe i’ll like it more second watch ok hwfg

- this is the only show i will NEVER skip the intro for it’s incredible

- ‘it’s so realistic’ wow mickey nothing gets past u!

- ‘we’re in deep space they didn’t just nip out for a quick fag’ love early 2000s shows there’s no way they’d say this now (to be fair i don’t know but i doubt it x)

- rose has a very slow reaction time considering she’s been doing this for like year why didn’t she just follow the doctor through the door 😭

- me personally if i saw a strange man in my room at night and he told me not to scream i think i would scream anyway x

- when i first saw the doll people in this episode i actually SCREAMED they’re so scary wtf ??? idk how reinette wasn’t shitting herself

- so interesting that the doctor didn’t anticipate reinette seeing into his mind too

- just found out steven moffat wrote this episode. INTERESTING! i don’t know much about how he writes doccy who but i know what he did to sherlock in the end so will be keeping an eye out x

- it is very sad that reinette waited until she died for the doctor to come back :(( bless her rip babes u would’ve loved telescopes

- now that i’ve actually WATCHED the episode my thoughts are that the monsters were very scary and visually it’s stunning but everyone seemed very out of character so that puts me off a bit :// def not my fav episode but oh well on we go x

aaahhhhhh, the definitive question. i always ask myself, what are the criteria, and how to weigh them? music (songwriting, production, general catchiness...), performance (singing/rapping/dancing, choreography), visuals (music videos, outfits, hair & make-up, stage designs), content (variety shows, youtube, tiktok...), the members themselves (personality, chemistry, prettiness, and honestly, fuckability)?

i haven't found an answer yet, and maybe there is none. so these, in debut order (the same order i got into them), are the groups that speak to me the most as of now, circa oct 6, 2023, 10am of a sunny, still surprisingly warm morning:

Red Velvet. one of the groups that got me into k-pop, and one of my favorite discographies, especially when you consider their lifespan and consistency. if i were to choose my favorite albums in the genre, up to half of the list could be theirs.

LOOΠΔ. i've had ups and downs with them, but that HeeJin -> XX run will always be engraved in my mind as a golden era for k-pop. they have the catalog, the music videos, the lore; the people behind them had stories to tell, and they knew how to tell them. they felt different.

æspa. more smtown craziness in their songs, mv's and concept. visual overload in every possible way, from their flawless ai faces to the fonts on their album covers. except spicy. that one, probably not as good.

NMIXX. for them, it's more about the members and their collective clownery (especially ☀️1️⃣, the girl just has everything). their youtube content is easily my favorite atm and some of the best i've seen by any group. their music can be very hit or miss, and although i agree it has flaws, i personally like their experimental side.

NewJeans. last, but far from least. first group since the one three bullets above that just felt different. i don't think there is a single thing i dislike about them, and i don't think any other group makes me feel real emotions like they do. ditto and its mv's (all their mv's, in my opinion an integral part of their artistry and identity, are stunning and written so well, again something about knowing how to tell a story, in their case a much more mundane and slice of life-y one, though certainly no less hard-hitting) have a special spot in my heart and i cry everytime i watch them.

What’s your favorite Jane Austin novel and what’s your favorite Harry Potter book?

Aaaaah! Thank you so much! I'm having such a great time with this fic, and I can't wait to get back to it once I'm done with all my little side projects.

I'm a bit ashamed to say it, but I've only read Pride and Prejudice (and not even the whole thing yet), so I can't really answer the question of what my favourite Austen is... I have watched a bunch of movies though! And I really enjoy the 2005 P&P with Keira Knightley, which greatly influenced me for the writing of the fic. It's just visually stunning and I tried to recreate that in my fic. I also love love love Sense & Sensibility. It's such a joy to watch. And I have a real fondness for Northanger Abbey with Felicity Jones. The character of Catherine Moorland inspired me a bit for certain facets of Harry's personality in Brighter Than Bright.

As for HP, my favourite book is Prisoner of Azkaban, probably because I have such fond memories of reading it as a child. But the whole series is a total joy, each book in its own different way.

~Any Group I Know~ Junji (Onlyoneof)

Now, I have to admit this took much longer to complete since I really wanted to choose an idol who would suit you. Eventually I narrowed it down to two, Junji and NCT’s Jungwoo. As you could probably already tell, I went with Junji. For some reason I never really pictured myself shipping someone with Junji since I haven’t received any requests for Onlyoneof, plus Junji is a very distinct individual and I only wanted to ship him with someone who would nicely compliment him. Even while I write this ship, I fear that I won’t be able to do justice to Junji, however, I do know that the two of you would be a brilliant match.

In overall ships, I like to get appearances out of the way and focus on your beautiful personality. There is no doubt that the two of you are absolutely stunning! You are both definitely a visual couple, you both have such doll-like features that are highly contrasting.

 There is an angelic aura around the two of you for sure, I’m not doing the best job at describing it but that is exactly the effect the two of you have on people. There is an air of mystery surrounding you visually speaking, by this I mean that you have extraordinary visuals. Your visuals are so distinct and amazing, I can’t compliment you enough.

A key part of your request, which pretty much drove me to choose Junji, was you mentioning that people were unique and special in their own way and should be able to express themselves. Junji is also driven by a similar moral compass, though he is known to be the quietest member there are so many complexities in terms of his mind and overall personality. Due to this he really values being able to express himself, he’s an intensely creative soul who is at his best when he expresses himself. 

Junji is a fair person, he’s all about mutual connections with people. His belief in equality is closely linked to his relationship with you, it’s no surprise that he would be absolutely smitten by you. Just going by your description, you appear to be a very authentic person, you don’t hide behind a tame façade to deter people away from the true you. You come across as a “this-is-who-I-am-and-I’m-not-changing-it-for-the-world” type person, this is something that Junji would seriously love about you.

 Though there are some moments where he is more to himself you would still be able to feel the intense love and admiration he has for you, he will never truly hide how he feels about you. It’s all in his body language and his eyes, it may seem subtle but after a while it would actually become pretty damn obvious.

Junji also falls into the category of being an incredibly deep thinker, he doesn’t categorise his thinking as being philosophical per say but he would really enjoy conversations of a deeper nature, the type of conversations where the two of you wouldn’t be able to come to a sound conclusion. Following on from this idea it sounds very obvious but Junji loves to hear you speak, it doesn’t matter what you say. A deep conversation, discussing your hobbies or even reciting a list of groceries he would hang on to every word. 

Another thing is that no matter how stoic or well put together he appears to be, he is very excitable around you. When he smiles at you or tells you about his day there is some sort of child-like wonder to him, he is just so happy and in love. It brings out a very special side to him that he often tucks a way. Keep in mind he only shows this side to people he trusts, respects and loves dearly so all in all you are definitely one of the most special aspects of his life.

that was SUCH a weirdly paced episode of television why were there twenty second pauses in between dialogue. why was the kang office scene fifteen entire minutes of re-explaining the same point. why is the show not an actual Good Story and merely a conduit for multiverse exposition. why did tom hiddleston's nose squish like that. visually and musically stunning nonetheless 6/10 xx

2020 HIGHLIGHTS ✨

rules: list your top 10 shows (bl or not) you watched in 2020 (doesn’t necessarily have to be shows that came out in 2020 though!)

1. 2GETHER & STILL2GETHER

my first thai drama, and even after all the amazing shows i’ve watched this year, it still has a special place in my heart. watching 2gether was the first time i’d ever seen a queer romcom that just... was. for me, by the simple fact of its being, 2gether was revolutionary. and then still2gether came along and took all the best things about the first season and gave us something beautiful and quiet and lovely and just proved to me, once and for all, that queer happiness doesn’t need to justify its own existence. there can be gay cuddles on the beach for no other reason than that we want them. 

2. UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

i don’t really have the words for this one but. it makes my heart so very soft.

3. FRIEND ZONE 2: DANGEROUS AREA

season one was mindless fun because everyone was an absolute trashfire and it was hella cathartic to watch, but season 2... wow. i love it for so many reasons: it has messy and authentic queer rep; the characterisation is excellent and i somehow care about all of the characters; amazing women taking centre stage(!); a wlw relationship with lesbian, ace and bipolar rep; multiple interesting plotlines; actual character development; arm weerayut as a chaos gremlin... absolutely one of my favourites of 2020.

4. CHERRY MAGIC

i don’t think i need to explain this one, which is fortunate, because i have no idea how exactly i’d describe the happy-warm-fuzzy-queer-seen-loving-affirmed-profound feeling that rises in my chest whenever i think about it. 

5. THE GIFTED: GRADUATION

confession: i liked season 2 more than season 1 (with the exception of the ending, which we don’t talk about). season 1 was enjoyable and interesting, but for me it was season 2 which made me love this series. it did some incredibly interesting and complicated things (even if it didn’t quite nail the landing): it pushed characters to the breaking point and wove so many layers into the story and questioned its own underlying themes. plus, watching it alongside everyone in the fandom made it 200% better. i love all of you and i love this show. egg girl 5eva.

6. THE SHIPPER

i 100% understand why so many people didn’t like this show, or found it problematic, but through some fluke it absolutely worked for me (even the ending). one day i will write an essay explaining my rationale, but for now i’ll just say that it’s one of my favourite shows about adolescence and queerness and identity and compassion and friendship and love that i’ve ever watched. 

7. YYY

this series is absolutely off its rocker, and it somehow managed to be one of the most affirming shows i’ve watched. it shouldn’t have worked by it did, and i love it so much.

8. 3 WILL BE FREE

absolutely iconic. amazing plot, stunning visuals, great characters, canon polyamory, jennie being incredible... what a series.

9. MANNER OF DEATH

i love the fact that this show exists; i love the mix of crime and romance; i love maxtul’s acting; i love the central relationship; i love bun. i know we’re not even halfway through yet, but this show is doing something special and i’m so grateful that i get to watch it unfold in real time. 

10. CHIHAYAFURU (SEASON 3)

odd one out on my list, but I had to include it. chihayafuru is my all-time favourite anime and it finally got a third season, which is somehow even better than the first two. mashima taichi is one of my favourite characters of all time and his storyline hits me on such a profound level. plus, in the years since i first say this show i’ve fallen in love with classical japanese literature (particularly heian poetry) so i had newfound appreciation for the karuta matches (aka i cried every time someone recited one of my favourite poems)

other favourites: together with me, he’s coming to me, sotus and sotus s, my dear loser: edge of 17, why r u, theory of love, wake up chanee!, gameboys, pearl next door, uta koi (anime), three kingdoms (2010), blood and water (netflix). (itsay would almost certainly be on my list if i’d had time to watch it. same with dark blue kiss, which i had to pause so i could do my assignments)

Final Thoughts

well, it’s been... a year (i don’t think anyone needs a reminder of the details) but writing this post has reminded me of all the amazing shows and people I discovered over the course of it.

just watched the new disney epcot fireworks and i went from hating it, to loving it, to hating it again to literally thinking it was such a let down. 

visually it was stunning but it was literally just a bunch of songs. bring back epcot forever bob chapstick thanks xx

Movies I watched in...

Some pics and details under the cut! I’ve put a star next to the ones I really recommend in case anyone’s looking for something to watch :-)

1. The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) [Drama] I hadn’t seen this before! I really enjoyed it! Jude Law is inhumanly beautiful in it. 

2. Bikram: Yogi, Guru, Predator (2019) [Documentary]. P good true crime doco, but I wish it had gone a bit deeper than it did? It ultimately felt a bit shallow given the subject matter.

3. XX (2017) [Horror Anthology]. Like all anthology films, a mixed bag. A couple of really good shorts though! A few really bad ones. Love that they were all directed by women though!

⭐ 5. The Sorrow & the Pity (1969) [Documentary]. Incredible doco about Vichy France having to reconcile with their compliance with the Nazi’s during WWII. Extremely affecting and hard to watch, but feels so, so topical with the rise of fascism again.

5. Straw Dogs (1971) [Thriller] I hated this movie a LOT, so do not recommend. Super, super misogynistic in a way that will make you feel extremely ill at various points. 

6. Klute (1971) [Thriller / Drama] Yes, that IS a baby Jane Fonda as a lead! Also features a baby Donald Sutherland as a detective, so automatically, it scores points. P good little mystery movie!

⭐ 7. The Handmaiden (2016). I’m the Lady Gaga Flawless gif right now. So, so, so good. Watch it ASAP.

8. Shaft (1971) [Crime / Action]. V much a product of its time, but still pretty fun? Good for a good time. 

9. The Andromeda Strain (1971) [Science Fiction]. Absolutely hilarious to watch this two months before a global pandemic hits your town, haha.

10. Cromwell (1970) [Historical Biopic] ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. But fine, I guess.

11. Marriage Story (2019) [Drama / Wankery]. *stares at the camera like I’m on The Office*

⭐ 12. The Nightingale (2019). [Australian Historical]. Extremely violent against both women and POC, so just a heads up in advance. Explores a dark chapter during Australian colonisation, but has an inherent humanity to it that director Jennifer Kent is really committed to (she also had therapists on set for the actors for the duration of the shoot too to handle the trauma the actors might experience through the content, which I respect). I was really moved by this film, but I know it won’t be for everyone.

13. Scrooge (1971) [Christmas Movie]. I should’ve watched this over Christmas, haha, but still, it’s a pretty fun adaptation of A Christmas Carol. 

14. Little Big Man (1971) [American Historical / Western]. Dustin Hoffman plays a white guy raised by Native Americans, so that should tell you everything you need to know. 

⭐ 15. McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971) [American Historical / Western]. I mean, do you SEE Warren Beatty’s coat in the pic below?? But actually this is pretty fun. A gambler and a sex worker become business partners and they basically run a small town until Capitalism ruins everything for everyone. Need a brio au yesterday tbh.

16. Thelma (2017) [Supernatural Thriller]. SO. MUCH. POTENTIAL. And it ruins a lot of it tbh. Visually stunning, but I wish the script was better.

17. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) [American Historical / Action]. I say this as someone who, despite herself, usually enjoys Quentin Tarantino movies, this is a D.I.S.A.S.T.E.R. Like. Straight up mess.

18. The Boy Friend (1971) [Back stage Musical / Satire]. Oof, I wanted to love this, but it didn’t work for me. A hollow movie about how hollow Hollywood is. It, like many movies, became what it tried to critique. 

19. Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971) [Fantasy / Family]. I actually hadn’t seen this before! Shockingly! Haha. I think I would’ve loved it if I’d watched it when I was 8, but as an adult, watching it for the first time was odd. I think it’d make a pretty great drinking game though.

⭐ 20. Her Smell (2018) [Drama / Musical]. Don’t know if I enjoyed it, but I thought it was good! Elisabeth Moss really is a force of nature, and I quite liked the layered plot. It really worked as a character study.
