A Silent Reflection

Winter Eclipse Lake was not so easily accessed by just anyone; in fact, the sheer impression one felt upon entry was a place of peaceful albeit melancholy solitude. Most preferred warm and comforting places, so for anyone to actively seek such dark emptiness was rare. Upon a round stool of ice sat the vessel of Yin, his bare toes dipped beneath the surface of clear waters reflecting the night sky above, the air cold and crisp and clean amid a quiet tranquility.

Perhaps she had entered through a dream, or perhaps she had felt an inexplicable pull toward a mysterious shadow; whatever the case may have been, visitors were exceedingly rare...and while not unwelcome, her presence was unexpected. What was even more unexpected, however, was the contact of a comb to his hair. The sensation of it, of contact, was enough to pull him from his silent reverie, basking in a moment of connection with another being.

He did not know why she was there, but in that moment, her reasons did not matter as as his eyes closed, simply enjoying the feel of the comb traveling through his long locks. Of all the riches in the world one could possess--gold, silver, jewels--the one Yin secretly treasured above all was a kind touch.

Something so small and seemingly overlooked or taken for granted by many, but something he rarely received as his own was quite cold. After all, it was instinct to yearn for the warm embrace of a loved one...not the frozen touch of the abyss. If her intention was to garner his attention, then she had it undivided.
