2023 has been a year to say the least so lets get into this 😂. As usual this is in no particular order cause I cant handle putting these into a proper order.

𝐓𝐨𝐩 5 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬:

1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐂𝐚𝐟𝐞 (2022).

I watched this on a whim and boy am I glad I did. The female lead is so unhinged but in the best way and our main guy is so in love with her I cant. Literally this drama was such a fun time and everything connected together so well. Just watch this drama pls.

2. 𝐁𝐨 𝐑𝐚! 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐡 {𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞} (2023).

Yoo In Na shines and I love the character growth that both the leads go through, everything that happens makes sense and it really does show that working on yourself isnt a linear process. There will be set backs but you can over come them. I tend to not care for side couples but I loved all of them in this, they were just hilarious or adorable.

3. 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧 (2023).

I wasnt going to watch this drama but thankfully instagram reels made me interested enough to give this a chance. I love all 4 of the leads, they are my babies and they deserve all the happiness in the world.

This was such a cute, fun drama. I didnt expect to love it as much as I did, the family dynamics, friendships, everything was so well done and the 2 couples were the cutest.

My bias came and she ate. I love this song and it showed in my top 2023 songs its at number 6... The top 5 are all Taylor obviously.

He came and took over the world. Nothing more to say about that.

then later qiao ling, emma and the new hottie look at him as he falls, and later we can see a shot of those three plus lu guang watching him fall and fall. cxs reaches out but it's useless (pls this is heartbreaking) the feeling of helpness while cxs falls is conveyed throughout the whole video it almost gives me vertigo

once again this opening is by far my most favourite of all and the song is incredibly good, today i saw the behind the scenes/making of the music and what can i say, they're all so talented and they sound amazing. it took them about a year to finish the song and it turned out beautifully, kudos to all the people who worked together to make this masterpiece, im in love

on another hand, i'm soooo enjoying the donghua and this second season started off tense and full of action which i LOVED, the animation is smoooooth and i was so relieved to see lu guang was alive😢 i mean he couldn't possibly die but anyways. definitely my favourite part were the action scenes 11/10 but qiao ling's "what i need is your trust!" made my chest HURT okay it physically hurt. god.

the second episode ended in a cruel cliffhanger 😃 i try to get used to it, but nope. btw the ED song melting with the ending of the episodes always sounds spectacular.

So I have meta on Karma and Midnights as a whole and I have to extensively rant about it because Taylor made a genius genius masterpiece

I just watched the Karma music video and I've been mind blown. Pls follow me

So, the song makes a pretty clear reference to CCS's song, Music Is My Hot Hot S-x.

The structure of both songs is the same, they make a list of what Music/Karma are for them: Music is my boyfriend Music is my girlfriend... Music is my beach house... Music is my hot hot s-x Music is my back rub 'Cause karma is my boyfriend Karma is a god Karma is the breeze in my hair on the weekend Karma's a relaxing thought

Both songs share the idea that music/karma is something relaxing and pleasant, and Taylor makes an obvious joke on the fact that her karma/her revenge on her enemies is her hot hot s-x, BUT there's more:

If we follow the parallelism karma = music, first of all Taylor is telling us that music is her positive karma. Thus, she's acknowleding that she's very good at making music (and navigating the music industry, eg. by keeping her side of the street clean and focussing on releasing good work instead of 'talking sh-t' and 'betraying' to keep relevant). She's telling us that her music abilities are what allows her to still be here while 'so many fade'.

It's also interesting how everything ties together with the time imagery (and I promise it has to do with the music=karma parallelism). Time is super present in the video, with hourglasses and clocks, and I'm pretty sure they've added a tickling clock sound to the beat of this video that wasn't there in the og version of karma.

So, the song suggest that time is running out for Taylor's enemies, because 'karma is on their scent like a bounty hunter'. The fact that 'it's coming back around' for them evokes the final image of the hour hand of the clock, which moves in circles, coming back around to were it was. Since these guys are apparently doomed to fade, their fate resembles a hourglass more than a clock: clocks keep going cyclically on their own, but in an hourglass, when the sand has all gone down everything has ended. Also: 'you'd see the glare of everyone you've burned just to get there': when you get burned, you turn to ashes: if the hourglass is a metaphor for Taylor's enemies' careers, the powder inside represents time, in particular their time in the spotlight: the powder inside their hourglasses/career is literally made of the ashes of the people they've burned. Aka, the only thing that keep them relevant is burning people down; but they haven't managed to turn Taylor to ashes, since she's comfortably sitting in the hourglass in one piece. Anyway, if they are 'terrified to look down', it might be because if they did, they'd see that the sand in their hourglass has almost run out, their career is almost over. In fact, they're represented as skeletons/ghosts.

On the contrary, time is not a concern for Taylor, who comes back cyclically like the hour hand of a clock (see 'I come back stronger than a 90s trend') and she's able to do so because she's terrific at reinventing herself with her eras and her music keeps being consistently good (as this masterpiece shows). We know this from the first shot, in which her record moves in a cycle and releases some sort of fairy dust: unlike her enemies, her hourglass powder, aka her time in the spotlight, is not made by the ashes of people she's burned - it comes from her music. She may have been caught in her enemies' hourglass game, but with each new era, she turns her hourglass back up, taking advantage from the situation (and that's why the camera often turns around to the next scene, as if the video itself was shot into an hourglass). So: karma/her killer music skills might ultimately be a 'relaxing thought' because they allow her not to worry about fading or staying relevant.

Ultimately, this makes her stable and immortal in music history (she represents herself as a literal mountain) and makes her so powerful that she can control any time cycle, even the orbits of planets.

This is all SO striking to me because the theme of 'my art will make me immortal' is what poets have been saying for decades and she appropriates the trend in such a gloriously camp and confident way. Edit of the edit: The idea that she doesn't have to worry about time because she's confident in her own skills mirrors back You'Re On Your Own, Kid: 'make the friendship bracelets, seize the moment and taste it, you've got no reason to be afraid'. And now that I think about it, You're On Your Own, Kid is all about time from the very beginning: 'summer went away, still the yearning stays': she's getting older, but her yearning for making good music remains and that's what keeps her afloat. I might have underestimated how deep the reflection on time in Midnights is. Ultimately it might be an album about time and what you do with it, mostly.

Edit: oh, and of course I love the final image suggesting that midnights are the darkest point of the day, but they also make the beginning of a brand new day, suggesting that there's power in every dark moment + new awakening and reversing the darker connotation that she originally gave to midnights as dark times of brooding ('Anti-hero')

the ride to the school is short, and you find a parking spot quickly, so you’re out on the football field in no time. ryujin’s teammates are already on the grass, adjusting uniforms and stretching. she joins them quickly, changing inside and running out. you take a seat on the benches lining the field, settling in to watch them play. your heart is still pounding, but watching the others play, you don’t notice it as much.

the boy’s team is playing one field over, so you can watch them as well. familiar faces dot that field too, and because they let out before the girls, you get to talk to them while waiting. chenle and jake plop down next to you, teasing you about your obviously heaving chest.

“you all worked up watching the games?” chenle nudges you from his side, the feeling of his sweaty shoulder making you shudder. “as if. my soulmates running a marathon or something, like they like to do every day,” jake twists his face in sympathy, "well you've got practice in a bit right? give them a taste of their own medicine!"

changing quickly, your walked out to the pool, greeting your teammates with a smile. time for some payback. tugging on your fins, you dove into the water, relishing the instant comfort it gave. following your coach’s orders, you, along with the rest of the swim team, start swimming laps around the pool. half an hour in, your heart is pumping, and the fact that you were the cause for it makes it so much more sweet. friends have begun to line the sides of the pool, yelling out encouragements and teases. you can easily spot the soulmates of the people swimming with you, their chests heaving, but big smiles on their faces. ryujin, chenle and jake are sat near your lane at the leftmost side of the pool. the three of them, still sweaty and tired from their practice, watch you swim, happy grins on their faces. an hour or so later, you are doing a few mock races, and jeongin has joined them too, his usually teasing visage now smiling with pride. you streak through the water, enjoying the burn in your arms, feeling the exhaustion through your bones in a way that swimming only gives you. you reach for the edge of the pool, and it’s coming closer, closer, until you feel it, slippery on your soaked skin. your friends jump up, yelling out in excitement, filling your heart to the absolute brim.

“alright y/n, good job! you can go change, see you next time,” your coach calls out to you, signalling for you to climb out of the water. your friends swarm you, words of happiness and congratulations surrounding you.

“you did good, fucker,” ryujin ruffles your hair. “now go shower and cool down so you can do that in the actual races,” chest heaving, you flash a huge grin at them, “be right back! i’ll meet you in the parking lot!” they nod their assent, and you begin to walk to the showers, barely catching chenle say something.

“jake, are you really still tired from football? you’ve been panting for ages.”

hours later, you find yourselves in your usual post-practice spot, the local diner near the school. chatting and laughing, you lose track of time around the point when your fries arrive. jeongin regales you all with stories of the crazy customers he dealt with at work, and ryujin gives you the rundown of all the drama that happened in her football practice(seriously, how do they even have time to kick the ball around when so much is going on??). you get that heady feeling of pure happiness, when you’re not thinking or worrying about anything, just paying attention to the amazing people you get to surround yourself with.

you only snap out of that headspace when chenle looks down at his smartwatch(rich boy) and lets out a noise of surprise.

“it’s 19:42! i need to go, fuck,” he begins to clean up his stuff and lays down money for his meal. the rest of you follow suit, appalled at how long you’ve been sitting in this booth. all the money is on the table, and you rise from your seat, ready to go home.

“ryujin, can you drive me home?” you hold the girl's arm, pleading with her so that you won’t have to walk. she opens her mouth, ready to speak, but then she hesitates, a look of mischief crossing her features.

“okay-” you rejoice, pumping a fist in the air, until she goes on: “only if you can beat me to the car. okay 3,2,1 GO!” she starts sprinting, long legs bringing her halfway across the parking lot in no time. you let out a groan of exhaustion, and start pumping your legs to follow her.

by some miracle, you reach the car at virtually the same time, doubling over to hold your knees in your worn-out state. ryujin, in between her attempts at gulping down air, tells you she’ll take you, and you wait for the rest to reach you.

jeongin, chenle and jake walk leisurely up to you, starting to say their farewells. you straighten up, grabbing first chenle, then jeongin into a hug. they yell out some more goodbyes as they walk off to their cars, when you hug jake.

for having just walked here, his heart is racing. why? you focus your hearing on his heartbeat. it’s almost as if he sprinted here. pulling your head away from him, you look up at him, voicing your concerns.

“are you okay? your heart’s beating really fast.” he frowns at you, and presses a hand to his heart. you follow suit, feeling the thump, thump, thump of his chest. it feels familiar. why do you feel so used to this heartbeat? confusion ripples through your mind, until it clears, with a feeling of shock. you know this heartbeat. you know it because it’s your own.

grabbing his other hand, you place it over your heart. his face twists with surprise, and then an emotion you’re not familiar with crosses his features. he pulls you back into a hug, excitement so evident that it’s crossing over to you. jake is your soulmate! which a choked laugh, you pull him impossibly closer to you. he tucks his head next to yours and whispers in your ear.

“it was always you, wasn’t it?”

you pull back from the hug, your smile dropping into a serious face. he looks in confusion, as you rear your arm backwards. you push forward, landing a punch in his gut, and he stumbles backward with an ‘oof’

I haven’t been to enough weddings to know the little script thing and I can’t really find any online so I’m going off memory and movies.

Chris just informed me he sent you an invitation to the wedding. I hate to be the one to disinvite someone, but your presence won’t be necessary. Do not show up.

‘What a lovely fiancée, Chris,’ you thought bitterly. Rolling your eyes, you shoved the phone into your purse and stepped out of the car taking in your surroundings as you walked into the venue. You tried your best to keep your presence low key, not wanting anyone to inform the bridezilla that you were crashing her wedding.

“Hiding?” Scott asked as you peaked at the isle from behind a curtain. You jumped back, frightened by his sudden appearance. He laughed at your reaction, and you rolled your eyes at him.

“Shouldn’t you be with the groom?” You asked, a bitter undertone in your voice.

“Only his groomsmen are allowed with him,” he informed you, his turn to sound bitter.

“You aren’t a groomsman?” You asked shocked. Chris and Scott were best friends. They did everything together, and Chris always spoke about how great it would be when he got married with his brother as his best man.

“The witch wouldn’t allow it,” he shrugged. “You really should be marrying him instead of her.”

“Scott,” you began with a sigh, not wanting to have the conversation over again.

“Y/n, he’s miserable- she controls everything he does. Our family doesn’t like her, and she doesn’t like us. You were the exact opposite,” he began to vent, almost as if he expected you to stop the wedding. “He misses you. I was with him last night, and he couldn’t stop talking about you. You let out a sigh, not sure what to say. It broke your heart hearing the words come from him. Someone announced that the procession will start soon and to grab your seats. Scott led you to where his family sat, all of them hugging you.

His smile fell as he looked around the room, eyes falling on you. You offered a small, sad smile, not sure what else you could do as the rest of the wedding procession marched in, the music suddenly changing to the classic piano tune. Everyone stood up, and you watched as the bride walked down the isle by herself, a bitchy smile on her face as she walked up to Chris, her hand sliding into his. Chris moved to kiss her cheek, staring at you as he did so.

“Dearly beloved, we gather here today to witness the unity between this man and woman,” you couldn’t take your eyes off Chris as the pastor spoke, not really hearing his words until Scott nudged you with his foot. “If anyone objects to this marriage, speak now or forever hold your peace.”

You sat for a second letting out a breath before standing up. “I object.” You heard a few women gasp, the bride’s friend’s giving you dirty looks as you made your way to meet Chris where he stood.

“You weren’t invited!” She shrieked, trying to get in your face, but her maid of honor held her back. Your eyes never left Chris’s.

“What are you doing?” He asked you as you stood in front of him.

“This is my decision to make.”

“It’s also my responsibility to point out your mistakes, and she’s the biggest one. We’ve talked about getting married before- not just what I want but what you want. Where’s Sebastian, Chris? i HAVE watched a couple episodes of nichijou and i adore it! i, admittedly, do love slice of life so its rly fun for me,, and like you said, its not as slice of life-y as most of em. ill definitely continue, i might start over to remember whats happened up to the point i stopped!!
