A Persian Miniature-esq styled art of Death and Puss’ final battle on the wishing star. This took me a long time to finish but it was a blast to paint!! Both Puss and Death ended up looking more 3D than what is typical of the very flat and 2D styles of Persian Miniature art, but I feel I managed to capture the energy and ‘flow’ of them well enough!

I adore the use of fairy tales and folklores in the Shrek universe and so I thought the idea of using the Persian Miniature style would have fit along with it, as these artworks were often used for book covers and illustrations. I’ve also wanted to create art with more influence from my culture and background, so I thought it’d be a perfect fit!

This was digitally painted with Krita, did I manage to make it look ‘traditional’ and painterly enough despite the digital medium?

Absolutely! You’re correct. Hey, @the-sage-libriomancer , I saw Wish and you’re still correct. The idea of having a star that is a higher power (Evangeline) and then having a character who demonstrates absolute faith in that higher power (Ray) and winds up teaching that same faith to both self-centered-Naveen and self-reliant Tiana? So very Disney.

Sometimes Disney’s Renaissance-era princesses were the Faithful Characters of their own story—Ariel had faith in Eric and taught that same faith to her father, Jasmine (and Genie) had faith in the Truth and taught that faith to Aladdin and the Sultan, etc. And that’s wonderful. Cinderella and Snow White are the Faithful Characters in their own stories, too, so it’s not like that isn’t a Classic Disney idea.

But Princess and the Frog doesn’t do that. It has the princess be the one who needs to learn to have faith. And the prince! That’s much more like dear old Pinocchio. What Jiminy Cricket and Geopetto are to Pinocchio, Ray is to Louis, Naveen, and Tiana. I mean, how wonderful a tribute to Disney, to have the main character be afraid of relying in something higher, valuing love, and trusting only whatever she can accomplish on her own…

…to have her go from that to being willing to give up what she wanted? To value love, plain old love, over career, personal goals, dreams? To change her dream and admit when she was wrong? And finally, to sacrifice herself in order to do what’s right?

Why, that’s Pinocchio. That’s Mr. Banks from Mary Poppins. That’s Alice from Alice in Wonderland. That’s Disney!

The birth of Evangeline

A combination of wishes and magic. It could be...

- created from an accident. The combinations of all the good and bad wishes collected over the years? - Was created to counter act the combination of dangerous wishes... - the original source of where Atlantis got their crystal deity?

I don't know. Mostly wanted to get this down before I lost it... Got the design idea from Disney Fantasia 2000's Firebird short of the earth sprite.

Some Puss in Boots: The Last Wish fanart ! Antonio Banderas’ kids movies always have a special place in my heart, of course I couldn’t miss this movie.

Puss stopped short of the ledge that should be the crater of the Wishing Star. But instead there weren’t a star at all. Just a body. Puss frowned but slid down anyway to the edge of the flowering crystal.

“Who treads this gorund?” Come a soft vocie and two eyes opens in the middle of the crystalline water. Puss gasped. He had not expected this. “Uhhh… I’m Puss in boots. You’ve heard of me right?” He said and the eyes blinked before a soft chuckle rumbled through the star.

“Of course Puss. I have heard everyone. Every soul wishing has come here but no one… has caught me attention as you” and out of the star came a beautiful white… dog? Puss couldn’t belive his eyes.

So the star weren’t a star? It were a real living thing? A dog no less? The dog chuckled. “Not expecting this ¿Gatito? Ah you wound me… I guess you’re just as those numb wits souls that comes every year wishing that I can make their one wish come true. While I’ve come all that I… don’t expect it to really come true. It is just you” she nudged her snout at Puss’ chest kind blue eyes blinking.

“- who can make it true Mi amigo. Not me not my powers. Only you.” The star said smiling soflty. Puss blinked. Had he heard right? Could only him himslef make his wish come true?

“B-but all those legends… people getting their wishes through. You’re not the one who does it?” He ask and the dog shrugs “I certainly have the power no? But why would I waste it on you when you have the power to do it yourself? Now go to your friends. Let me sleep” and the dog turned back beginning to sink down.

Puss stretched out his paw touching the dog by her tail tip. The dog stopped. Puss drew his paw bacj. “Ah… I should go shouldn’t it? I-I I’m sorry I shouldn’t have taken your time” he stuttered but stops short when Kitty and Perritio comes up broken-hearted looks.

“I can’t believe I fell for that again!” Kitty growls. The Star turns her eyes shining. “More freinds ¿Ojo verde?” Puss drew a short breath fumbling with the map in his paws. Kitty and Perrito dropped short.

“I-is that…?” Kitty began but the Star smiled “hello Kitty Softpaws. Wow you’re a stunning Gatito I must say. I’ve felt your engery.” She said and wlaked closed to Puss again rhe ginger cat’s freinds still stiff of fear.

“It’s… it’s her. The Wishing Star” Kitty breathed and the dog smiled her tail wrapping over Puss’ shoulders.

The cat stiffened bur said nothing. “I am her the Wishing Star amigo . Have you too come for a wish?” Asked the dog digging down. Kitty were speechless but then Perrito wlaked over making the bigger dog look at him. “Hey! I’m… well I don’t have a name yet but my freinds call me Perrito! Who are you?” He says cheeuky.

The dog smiles and dips her head her snout coming in contact with his forehead “Soy el pequeño cachorro de la Estrella de los Deseos. But call me Star”

OUAT Thoughts Pt.37--Episodes 10-11

I have watched through S4E11; spoilers DNI. Also, spoiler warning for those further behind than I am.

—I feel terrible for Snow. She has to give up her baby again! At least this time she’s sending Neal off with someone she knows will take care of him.

—Anna being put on baby duty is amusing. She’s a lil spacey, but she’s fun, I bet kids love her.

—The Wishing Star is poetry. Anna went looking for it to save Elsa, and Elsa used to to save Anna. I love it.

—Still don’t like Kristoff, but it’s cool that he used an ice ax as a weapon.

—I think Rumple’s villainous stuff right now feels a bit like a regression. If I were writing him, at this point in his life I’d make him selfish with love, because that’s just how he is, but not a bad person. Being possessive of his loved ones works for him, and it’s also a consistent characterization because that has been the underlying theme for his entire arc thus far. Especially now that Bae is dead, it makes sense that he might lean a bit further in that direction. But why not play it different (better?) and have him extend his fierce, protective love to the woman his son loved? The mother of his grandson? I would love to see Rumple as brutal for the people he loves, but also extending his love a bit in honor of Bae. I would die for that Rumple even more than the one I’ve already got.

—I do understand why he wants to split himself from the dagger, but the quest for power doesn’t quite gel. Also, he swore to his dead son that he would try to be a better man, and since Baelfire was literally his Most Important Person™ going back on that promise doesn’t make sense. I can only hope this is like Storybrooke David at the beginning of the show, where he didn’t seem good enough for Snow, but it turned out that was for a deeper layer of character storytelling for him.

—I miss Mulan.

—Man, I don’t like Ingrid, but her death?…That sh*t hurted. The music was sad. She acknowledged her wrongdoings before she died. She died to undo her curse. And her version of heaven is running through a field with her little sisters. I just *can’t*.

—Do Anna and Kristoff ever get to actually get married? I’d love to see that, and since they’re already going back to Arendelle, it’s not even that big of a stretch.

—Snow going into a fit of motherly rage during her sword fight with Regina is awesome. Also, I’m pretty sure in a fair fight, Snow wouldn’t lose to Regina. Regina is too heavily reliant on her magic.

—I adore that the first thing Regina does when going under (or coming out of) a curse is to take stock of her outfit. And her Evil Queen dress was gorgeous. Big, rounded shoulders aren’t really my thing, but spiky shoulders rock.

—I didn’t expect to see Blackbeard again. I mean, he’s still not important, but I didn’t think he would even appear as a plot device. Worth it to see that bomb-ass red jacket tho. Pirates have got style.

—I love Anna. She’s so cute.

—Little weird that I’m supposed to feel sorry for Ingrid about the whole urn-imprisonment thing when she literally killed her own sister? I actually have two sisters, and if one of them killed the other I wouldn’t be like, ‘sounds about right, have a nice day.’ Her ass would be going in jail quick as anything.

—It’s also a little weird that Regina acts like only Henry and Robin believe in her, because it’s been established at this point that Snow believes in her, and mostly Emma too.

—Lol a dwarf with a crossbow.

—Actually the dwarves brawling in the streets was hilarious. Also I would not complain if Granny and Doc had a relationship, might be fun together.

—Will Scarlett is such a dumbass *amused*

—Feeling very upset about Hook. He doesn’t deserve to be heartless. And he’s gonna die, which is not a pleasant prospect.

—The Spell of Shattered Sight was so pretty and sparkly.

—Aw hold on, does Ingrid being dead mean Marian is unfrozen? Because I’m really invested in seeing Robin and Regina getting married eventually (and Henry getting a stepbrother!) and frankly I’d just as soon see Marian die.

—I adore when Hook and Will are in the same room and it’s mate *piratey* vs. mate *britishy*
