Part One
Tumblr media
You felt your magic return to you the day Amarantha died. It was such an ordinary day.
You were in your cabin, that Eris had found for you the moment your wings were burned. You couldn't return to the Night Court without putting yourself in danger of Amarantha finding you, so you stayed in Autumn.
You were cooking when it washed over you, feeling as if you could finally breath again. You tested your abilities, seeing how much you could do. You were able to engulf the entire room in darkness when you were satisfied it returned.
You lost hope 10 years prior, when one of the local villagers said that all of Amarantha's court was bound to Under the Mountain. That meant you wouldn't be getting anymore visits from Eris, and even in the 40 years before that, those were few and far between. You were lucky Autumn Court was on her "good" side, because she never looked too deep into the woods. From what Eris told you, Rhys had taken her to bed.
You knew Rhys, and you could guess that he did it to keep her eyes from turning towards the Night Court. Towards you. Or Velaris.
So, you lived your simple life. The cabin Eris gave you came with a horse, that you would take to and from the local village. You were able to maintain a garden. And the best thing about living in Autumn was you never had to brace a bad winter or a sweltering summer. You missed the seasons dearly, you missed Solstices and Starfalls. Most of all, you missed your family.
It still haunted you that Rhys was taking on the burden of the Night Court by himself. You wished you could be there with him.
And, the rest of your family was running Velaris. Without you. You had to wonder if Azriel and Mor ended up together, being trapped in the beautiful, romantic city all these years. You wouldn't if Azriel regretted leaving you that night. Or if he was happy you were gone.
One thing you couldn't get over, even after all these years, was that he left you. Sure, you could handle yourself, but he left you. His best friend. Even when you were young, you always wanted to be around Azriel. Once Cassian and Rhys stopped tormenting him, you were allowed to be around him. He was always the first one to show you techniques with his sword, or new flying maneuvers. But then Mor came alone, slept with Cassian, and that was it. Azriel had been pining after her since then. You weren't resentful of it until he left you the night everything went to shit. When you lost your magic and your ability to fly.
Even know, when the wind was raging in the forest, you teared up. You wish there was some way to be able to fly again. But you grew up in the Illyrian war camp with your mother and brother. You knew what destroyed tendons looked like. There was no hope. Even after Eris and his healers did everything they could to heal them as best as they could. The membrane was in tact, albeit thinner than normal, and you had full function of stretching them in and out. But, the proper strength to fly would never be resorted.
At least you had your magic back. And you waited for Eris to come find you, to placate his father enough that he had time to tell you what happened. You assumed, knowing the depletion of magic was tied to Amarantha, that she died. You really hoped that was the case. You could go home. You could see your brother. You could ignore Azriel for the rest of your life. It never even occurred to you that you could probably winnow back home. You hadn't been able to do it for a long time.
Instead of Eris bursting through the door that afternoon, it was shadows, followed by a heaving Azriel trying to catch his breath.
"(Y/N)!" Azriel exclaimed, bounding over to you. Before you had a chance to step away, he wrapped you in an embrace. One you couldn't help but melt into. You might be mad at him, but after 50 years of being apart, you were happy to see him.
You pulled away, seeing tears in Azriel's eyes as he looked you over. His eyes landed on your wings. "What did they do to you?" He asked, searching your eyes.
"After you left me that night, three of Beron's sentinels burned my wings." You said, taking a deep breath.
"I need to write a note, and then you can take me home. Is Rhys there yet?" You asked.
"I don't know, I've spent all day having my shadows look for you. I was hoping you made it to Winter... I didn't think you would still be here." He said, pausing as you started to write.
You wrote to Eris, letting him know that you would be going back to the Night Court. You also told him that you would support him if he ever needed anything. You tucked the note into an envelop and left it on the counter.
"Okay... can you winnow us?" You asked, holding out your hand.
He gazed over you again, unsaid words clear in his eyes. "I'm sorry, (Y/N). For everything. For leaving you. For not coming to get you-"
"Azriel.. please.. take me home. And then we can talk about it." You said.
He nodded, staring at you for a few moments before he took you hand and darkness enveloped you both.
Tumblr media
Rhys was pissed.
He may have been happy to see his family, and to tell Mor and you about how he found his mate (even if she was with Tamlin), but the instant he saw your wings, he knew something was wrong. Before even asking the rest of his family what happened, he pulled you into a room alone.
After recapping what happened Under the Mountain, and more tearful hellos, he asked you to sit down. "Tell me what happened." He said.
You looked down, taking a deep breath. "That night that Amarantha took your magic, and you closed the borders to Velaris, I got stuck in Autumn. Azriel had left to go help Mor with something. I couldn't even winnow to the Night Court borders." You told him what happened with the sentinels, how Eris found you, and then watched as Rhys settled into the quiet deathly rage.
"He did this to you?" He asked, barely above a whisper.
"No," you quickly corrected. "Eris helped me." There were tears in your eyes now. "He- Let me just tell you how it started..."
Tumblr media
Eris brought you to a cabin on the outskirts of the Autumn borders, close to a village but far enough that no one would look for you here. He had his best healers come to help heal you, but with their lack ox experience repairing wings, they couldn't completely heal them. You back even still had scarring on it from how hot the sentinels burned through them.
When Eris couldn't stay because Amarantha sent for all High Lords and their heirs, he had a healer stay with you. Until you were back to your normal health. And then, he offered to help you get to the Night Court. Said he would personally take you to the Moonstone Palace. But he warned you how cruel Amarantha already was, and how she was taking more and more people prisoner (to be part of her "court") Under the Mountain. You chose to stay in the cabin. If you couldn't go back to Velaris, you didn't want to go to the Night Court. Not when your brother was actively trying to get Amarantha to avoid it. The return of the Lady of the Night Court would surely set her eyes towards you. And Rhys would pay the price.
Eris would visit you as often as he could. Since Autumn was on Amarantha's good side, she let Eris and his brothers out more. When he was able to step away from the Forest House, he would visit you. Bring you more supplied, new clothes, sometimes even new furniture or paint to refresh the cabin. All the while, he kept you up to date on what was happened. One day, you asked why he was helping you.
"Because I can... and it was my family's sentinels that harmed you. You had no one else around. If you were to die out here, what would I tell you brother? It would have caused an even worse relationship between us. And I'm hoping to have his support when I overthrow my father. If we can tackle Amarantha first... and.. I'm hoping one day you can counsel your brother to help me as well." He explained.
"So you're helping me for your own gain?" You asked.
"I'm helping you because it's the right thing to do... and I've grown fond of this little escape." He answered.
That's how it was until three courts tried to rebel, and Amarantha barred anyone from leaving Under the Mountain. Even Eris. You wondered why he hadn't shown up when you went into the village to grab some more food, when you overheard the rumors.
Tumblr media
"He truly helped you? He never hurt you?" Rhys asked.
You shook your head. "No, he never hurt me. He never tried anything. He... was kind. And caring. And I owe him my life." You said, looking up at Rhys.
He nodded, thinking for a moment. He paused his pacing and looking at you dead in the eyes. "Azriel left you?" He asked, seeming to recall what you first told him.
"...Yes." You said after hesitating.
"I'm going to kill him." He growled.
Your heart skipped a beat, knowing Rhys might just well kill Azriel for putting you in harms way.
"Wait- no. Please.. go easy on him." You said.
He paused, taking a deep breath. Darkness was pooling around his ankles. You could tell he was trying to reel it in. "I'm going to beat him to a pulp."
Better than killing him, you thought. You relaxed for a moment before Rhys rushed out from the door. You chased after him to see the first blow to Azriel's face. Then to his gut. Then to his legs to knock him on the floor. All while Rhys growled out in between each punch,"You. Left. My. Sister. In. Autumn?!"
Azriel didn't even fight back.
Tumblr media
Part Three
A/N: Another tough one... I think this will have 1 or 2 more parts... which I probably won't get to writing until Sunday or Monday night (I know, i'm sorry!) Thank you all so much for your support!

Shoot Me
Bucky swears he doesn’t like Y/N. In fact, he’s so confident he’ll challenge this: If he likes Y/N, shoot him.
Tumblr media
a/n: dude, idk wtf this is. it’s like that one that 70s show scene, but it’s really just a crack fic. idk. this isn’t proofed. it’s late. it’s fluffy. i made you some content. enjoy.
warnings: mentions of gun violence (super minor), not proofread at all
note: I do not own the character Bucky Barnes or any other Marvel affiliated characters.
You do not have permission to copy, repost, or translate my work; however, feel free to like, comment, and/or reblog.
»»———-———-———-———-———-———-———-««
“I don’t like, Y/N,” Bucky says, voice adamant. The man is stoic, glaring at his friend who only shakes his head and laughs.
“Yeah, sure you don’t, Bucky,” Sam replies, tone laced in disbelief. After all, anyone with functioning eyeballs could look at Bucky and see that he liked Y/N. His harsh demeanor always softened around her: he smiled more, laughed more, glared less.
Bucky groaned, kicking off of the wall he’d been leaning against when Sam stands from the table he’d been sat at messing with Redwing.
“I don’t like Y/N,” Bucky reiterated as Sam only shook his head again, walking over to a tool box in the corner of the garage and beginning to rummage through it. “If I like her, shoot me.”
Right as Bucky lets the challenge slip through his lips, Sam turns on his heel to face Bucky, raising his hand in a finger gun and pointing at his friend.
“Pow.”
Bucky just stares at Sam, then his finger gun, then Sam again.
“C’mon, man. Real mature.”
Sam turns back to the toolbox and continues to rummage around for the tool he needs.
“I’m the one not being mature? You’re the one with a schoolboy crush who can’t admit he likes a girl.”
“I do not have a schoolboy crush”
“Right. You have a big macho man crush.”
Bucky scoffs, irritation growing. “Sam,” he warns.
Say lifts up the tool he evidently needs, inspects it, and returns to his seat at the table where he left Redwing and begins to fiddle with the wiring.
“Dude, just suck it up and tell her,” Sam says, ignoring Bucky’s aggression as he always does. “It’s not one sided, I can tell you that.”
Bucky’s eyes widen in surprise and he quickly—too quickly for his own liking and too quickly for someone who does not like you—sits down at the table in the seat beside Sam. Sam just smirks.
“Did she tell you that?”
“No,” Sam says and Bucky rolls his eyes, immediately standing back up and going to resume is original position leaning against the wall. “But,” Sam continues, “unlike you, I’m not stupid. I can tell.”
Bucky ignores the jab, dismissing Sam altogether. There’s no way Sam’s right.
“I don’t know, you’re pretty stupid,” a new voice cuts through the air, a teasing lilt in tone. The two men’s heads turn to the garage’s entrance to see you walking in holding a brown takeout bag and a drink carrier.
Bucky’s lips upturn slightly at your jab at Sam and his eyes soften slightly as they fall on you. Sam notices and rolls his eyes.
“Ha. Ha.” Sam says to you, but he offers you an affectionate smile which you return. “You bring lunch.” You nod and hold it up for them to see before setting it down on the table.
“I love you,” Sam says dramatically, immediately reaching for something to eat. “We’ve been out here all day.”
You laugh at his being over the top but return the sentiment. “So, what’ve you guys been talking about?” You sit down at the table and pull your drink from the drink carrier to take a sip.
Sam chuckles through a bite of hamburger: Bucky (who hasn’t yet moved) looks away. You raise your eyebrows.
“What? Did I miss something?”
Sam swallows his food and washes it down with his drink before answering.
“I shot him.”
Your eyes dart between the two.
“You what?”
“He didn’t actually,” Bucky clarified, amused and endeared by your concern.
“I fake shot him,” Sam clarifies, mimicking the handgun motion.
You scrunch your eyebrows as you attempt to make sense of this picture they’re painting. You turn to Bucky.
“You’re mad because he fake shot you?” You turn back to Sam. “Why did you fake shoot him?”
Sam is grinning like an evil mastermind at this point, Bucky is getting overly acquainted with his shoes.
“He told me to.”
“He told you to?”
“He told me to.”
“Why?” You look between the two of them.
“He said, ‘If I like her, shoot me.’ So I shot him.”
Your eyes widen at the revelation. Bucky likes someone? Who?
“Bucky likes someone?” You turn around completely to face Bucky. “Bucky, you like someone?”
Bucky closed his eyes and look up at the roof of the garage, clearly wanting to disappear from the current situation he found himself in. He ignores the question.
“Bucky, c’mon! If you like someone, you can tell me. Maybe I can help you get a date, or something.” You cringe a little at the suggestion, but you really want to know who he likes. Sure, it will absolutely devastate you if it turns out he doesn’t like you, but you just want him to be happy.
“Yeah, Bucky, maybe she can help you get a date!” Sam teases, innuendo heavy in his words. Both you and Bucky give him a look—Bucky’s warning, yours questioning.
“Just drop it, both of you,” Bucky says dejectedly.
“Just tell her, man. I’m tired of dealing with your moping,” Sam argues.
“Sam,” you say cautiously, eyeing Bucky’s uncomfortable demeanor.
“No, I’m tired of this. He,” Sam points to Bucky, “talks about you,” he points to you, “when you’re not around, and you,” he circles his finger around your face, “talk about him,” he points to Bucky, “when he’s not around. Incessantly. Now, I am going to take the rest of my lunch outside while you two figure this out. I’ll be back for Redwing later.”
You and Bucky stare helplessly as you watch Sam storm out of the garage. Once he turns the corner and is out of sight, the two of you turn to each other. He’s still leaned against the wall, you’re still uncomfortably turned around in your chair facing him.
“So, that girl you like…” You start but trail off, hoping maybe Bucky will confirm the suspicion Sam has planted in your mind but he continues to avoid looking at you. “Sam made it kind of seem like maybe she’s… me?” Your voice sounds so shy and uncertain as you ask the question. You can’t help but cringe a little.
Bucky finally looks up at you, searching your face and attempting to gauge how you might feel. He sees you cringe, though, and he sighs, looking back down at his boots. Of course, there’s no way you could ever like him like that. You notice Bucky pulling away and you start to panic.
“It’s totally okay if she is me, but it’s okay if she’s not. I don’t want you to feel like you have to say it’s me if you don’t actually have any feelings for me, but Sam did kind of make it seem that way. I mean, if you did have feelings for me, though, that wouldn’t be bad.” You’re rambling, full of nerves, but the nervous rambling does pull Bucky’s attention back to you.
“He wasn’t wrong,” Bucky finally admits quietly.
Your eyes shoot up to meet his. “He wasn’t?”
“No.”
“You like me?” You clarify, a grin overtaking your face.
The corner of Bucky’s mouth upturns in a smile. “Only if you like me.”
You stand up from your seat and take a few steps towards him whilst he takes a couple towards you. The two of you find yourselves toe to toe and staring at each other.
“Maybe I do.” Your eyes glance down at his lips and back to his eyes.
Bucky’s grinning now and he hums in response as he gazes down at you. The two of you feel yourself being pulled towards one another like there is some sort of magnetic force you can’t break, and, then, before you know it, your lips are on his. He kisses you softly as if he fears it isn’t real. You attempt to pour months of pent up adoration for him into the kiss. Your lips only part when you both finally need some amount of air; Bucky pulls away and rests his forehead against yours. It’s momentarily silent except for your breathing.
“You really told Sam to shoot you?” You teasingly ask, pulling away just enough to look into Bucky’s eyes.
“Only if I liked you,” he defends. He attempts to sound serious, but he can’t help the smile pulling at his lips. You nod as you briefly consider his response. Then, you make a finger gun and:
“Pow.”

UTY!Flowey, "lore" and how to criticize a fan prequel without being an insufferable pedantic, a guide by Biscia.
(for my muskless fellows, here's a transcript of my thread on Undertale Yellow that I posted on Twitter. enjoy!)
There's this really frustrating attitude in fan spaces i like to call "lorepilling" where people are substantially more concerned with encyclopedic knowledge of details & minutiae (so called "lore") in place of full-text thematic/narrative analysis as if the two are mutually interchangeable.
It's especially common in large franchises and story heavy videogames, and it's like... Are You Treating This Piece Of Art Like A Trivia Battle Or Are You Treating It Like A Story
This is coming from a person who is also deeply autistic about UTDR trivia btw, I'm just saying that when it comes to transformative *stories*, depending on the impact it has on character, themes, and narrative structure... lore is expendable.
Ultimately this is why most of the UTY criticism i see (on twitter specifically) falls flat. What does it matter if "lore" means Flowey couldn't chronologically be there when the justice human fell, as long as the game narratively justified his presence in the story in a compelling way?
The real criticism, in the end, is that it didn't.
He's a plot central, main cast character from the canon returning in a cast of mostly OCs and what does he have to show for it? An admittedly sick boss battle in 1/3 endings, sure but... not much else. He has no significant "presence" in the story, no tie, interaction, or even just... an opinion on the rest of the cast. Which is a huge miss when Flowey's meta role is to be Thee completionist player mirror. He's the OG lorepilled UT fan! He's an opinionated little shit!
This isn't to say that UTY *didn't* engage w/ his metanarrative. When me and @a-town-called-hometown first started playing the game (we were both skeptical of Flowey's inclusion), he immediately said "It would be really cool if they made it so this has been going on for a while and Clover has no idea". Which is precisely what the game did in the neutral ending, and what I will openly say was the most well written & well executed part of this game's story...
...a part we almost didn't see, because the pacifist ending disappointed us so much we lost all will to replay.
To put it in the words of my friend Mel @clowwwnbytes, there's a deafening hollowness to UTY Flowey's motivations & core principles where his guilt towards Chara—and resulting black and white thinking—should be. You're telling me Mr Kill-or-be-killed, "sacrificing yourself to do the right thing is stupid", would stand there after 1000s of failed attempts to make Clover survive, look on as they make the same mistake Asriel he did, and fondly call them friend? Cue the guitar, roll the credits?
He would lose it. Oh my god he would lose his goddamn mind, he would throw the nastiest temper tantrum in the world. Are you serious? How dare you. How DARE you. All this effort, all my patience, and you just let yourself DIE for a few worthless idiots? I should've let you ROT!
*clears throat* sorry got a bit too into character. as i was saying.
I can understand a UT prequel wanting to distance itself from the canon Chara storyline in order to form its own identity, but then turning around and choosing Insane About Chara The Character™ for a sidekick is... far from optimal. In the end, Flowey comes across as underutilized and inconsistent, with a whole lot of wasted potential.
This is an issue I have with UTY's character writing (original AND returning) and story structure as a whole. Lots of inconsistent character arcs, tonal dissonance, overuse of situational sadness... it's an amateurish work, after all, and you can feel it. There's no shame in that.
(Though, there ARE some issues that i take more seriously with its writing, especially when it comes to its two main female characters—Ceroba's lack of narrative agency and depth borders on misogynistic writing imo. But that's a topic for another day)
Over all, UTY was an incredible piece of collaborative transformative work, with gorgeous art and a genuinely incredible OST, which... would have benefited from more experienced writers. But hey, you can only ever learn by trying!
For all it could've been a better story, it certainly did not fail to entertain: both when my friend was playing it, and after in our many discussions of its writing, its faults and how it could've been improved (royal scientist!ceroba character fix you will always be famous. to ME!)
I'm sure this project served as an incredible source of experience for the developers: as individual creators AND as a team. I look forward to their future projects!
but also if i have to see another person say UTY is better than Undertale i might turn into The Jonker.
end of the essay! really couldn't stand any of the pedantic ""criticism"" I'd seen of this fangame so far, so i had to say my piece as someone more versed in analysis. happy to elaborate on anything in the replies or in my inbox!

It’s finally time to introduce the secondary project I’ve been working on >;Dc
I’ve had this queued for sometime in June, did not check when, so hello on [random date in june] ;D
I’m also here to explain how I’ll be posting this stuff going forward! Everything will be posted here, on my main account before being reblogged over to Soul’s Anchor a side bog with the place holder title. Unless it deals with more adult/suggestive content or heavier topics, of which will be exclusively posted to Soul’s Anchor side blog. As I don’t want certain themes alongside AM! I’ll also be referring to this series as Anchor for short! I will encourage any and all Questions, Mentions, and Thoughts to be directed there for those interested and those who are not, dw! You’ll only see the initial posts here, no asks or follows up, but this is still my art account and I shall enjoy it as I please ;3
Brief Synopsis about the Story:
A queer love story following a cursed pirate and a cult refugee implanted with a god’s eye as they combat the reality of living in a world which was created solely to feed the gods that govern it. All whilst a sapphic couple attempt to help guide the pair along a path to to a better future, one that’s validity comes into question. A dark fantasy story that aims to represent the disabled community, the LGBTQIA+, and SA survivors written by fellow members of these communities.
Also brief disclaimer, I, Phlurrii, am simply an ally to the disabled community, my partner in crime writing alongside me, ArtJunco on Instagram, is our resident community member ;]
Anyways onto the meat of this!
Below is a collection of some, emphasis on some, of the concept art and processes I went through to develop and create one of the two main characters, Lumae.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are some of the earliest ideas, the basic thoughts I had in my brain when developing this goober after a 3 hours pacing in my kitchen at 1 am when that inspiration struck. His hair was the HARDEST bit for me to figure out. Which sucked as usually the hair is one of the first things I figure out because of how much I love it, so it was Agony while brainstorming that part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also briefly considered a goatee, however it was so cruelly shot down by my dear friend. So in stead we compromised that he may get one later down the line story wise… and see how we feel then. However, upon finally figuring out his hair I was bloody elated, still has some tweaks now and then, but the base is there.
Tumblr media
As for this next concept, this was actually the FIRST thing created for Lumae and what started everything else about his character/design! His eyes! They are still my favourite but about him and something I adore whole heartedly! They are the core of his character ;3c
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These next few are early refs and mock ups of his full design, testing our colours, experimenting with shading, getting used to drawing humans again, and general concepts I had for him as a character! Also a sneak peak at Ayric, our second main goober for this story! Who was lovingly designed and created by ArtJunco!
Tumblr media
And finally his most recent WIP ref! The only thing currently bothering me about his design is the colour for his boot covers, I have no idea what to do with them so I’d you have suggestion or ideas, sincerely, feel free to shoot an ask to the Anchor blog! I’d genuinely love outside opinions!
As for the main curiosity of why I’m doing this, for those that missed the last post, I’ll give a brief explanation below ;3
To help with burnout so I can hop between fixations, help to avoid losing interest in AM in the future!
Keep up practicing humans and critters alike.
To take a break from story telling to do story building! Give the telling part of my brain a break, while still making cool stuff ;]
To have a more interactive blog with ya’ll! One where I’ll likely be asking advice and discussing a lot more hypotheticals, doodling asks, and general audience interaction given I am not bound by any updates! Purely just “ooo… shiny-“ and anyone is welcome to join me ;D
Last thing I request is to please read Anchor’s blog bio/description before you follow, as this story will deal with subjects not suited for all audiences posted/discussed exclusively on that blog.
Anywho, that’s all for now folks, hope you enjoyed this brief intermission to kickoff the second project being public!

Tumblr media
ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ᴇɪɢʜᴛ: Retreat
When you wake up, you’re in Chiyo’s home - in the same bed you found your father in all those months ago.
Your head feels like cotton, even blinking makes the world around you dizzying. Everything hurts, so much you feel nothing, pain so intense it’s numb.
The last thing you remember was being burned alive. You mentally laugh at your predicament, feeling so out of it that you couldn’t bring yourself to physically do so. Why couldn’t you die?
Immediately, everything rushes back to you, but yet the answers brought forth bring too many questions for you to process.
Was your family okay? Where’s Ejiro? Seriously, how are you not dead?
Just then, the door opens revealing your family rushing to your side, each with looks of either worry or relief on their faces. You smile weakly, but it lacks warmth. You’re too exhausted to show any form of genuinity.
Eri takes your hand, sniffling softly, your heart breaking as you can do nothing but watch as your younger sister cries, in too much pain to really do anything. Hitoshi and your father stand there in silence comforting the young girl.
Entering right behind them is Ejiro, who bursts in, with tears streaming down his face.
“Cactus, you idiot.” he scolds, but you know he doesn’t mean it, choking on his own tears, enveloping you in his arms. You don’t realize you were crying until the rough pads of his fingers swipe across your face, callused skin felt scarily soft in comparison to your own charred flesh.
“I missed you, Y/N.” he says, you want to respond, but your vocal chords were too damaged to create any noise. Your heart throbs, and more tears slip from your eyes. You were so glad Ejiro’s okay, but damn your head hurts, your body hurts, your heart hurts, it hurts to function at this point.
Chiyo enters the room, shooing Ejiro and your family out, insisting that you need rest. You made a mental note to thank her later. You loved your family and Ejiro, but right now, you just wanted space to process everything.
When they leave, you cry. Your life… it was gone, with these darn burns that covered your body, muscles weak and unusable- would you never be able to walk, run, fight anymore? The thought only makes you cry harder, heart aching from everything that’s happened, wishing that maybe, just maybe in another life, you could be happy.
Maybe Bakugou would like you, maybe you never went to war and you could’ve happily with your father and siblings - you could’ve been Maid of Honor at Ochako and Izuku’s wedding, or judgmentally sit on the couch with your father and brother as Eri brings home her first boyfriend.
You just wanted a chance to enjoy the mundane things in live, realizing with a sinking heart that you would never be able to - the chance gone before it was even presented to you.
Sleep overtook you soon enough, thanks to the sedatives Chiyo gave you, and you drifted off, finding solace in your subconscious.
Why me?
***
It’s the dead of night when you wake again, with a pounding headache- a noise from somewhere in the room startling you awake.
In the moonlight, you see two carmine eyes staring back at you. Immediately you think of Bakugou, body tensing up before you catch a glimpse of silver hair, realizing it’s your younger sister.
She steps up to you, tears forming in her eyes again as she takes in your state, your skin black and pink at the same time- even a small gust on wind is enough to make you wince.
“Hey Cattus.” she whispers, the old nickname turned new name startles you- given how much work you had put in to forget the name entirely, along with the memories that went with it.
Eri gingerly brings her hand up to stroke your forehead, more tears slipping from her eyes. “I’m scared, Y/N. It’s just so terrifying seeing you like this, you always work so hard for us, I…hate that I never realized I took you for granted.”
Your eyes widened by a fraction, wishing you could talk and console her, telling her none of that was true, and that you owed it to her as her older sister - but you remained infuriatingly silent, frustrated by your lack of ability to do anything.
Eri wipes her tears hastily and lets out a watery laugh. “Look at the irony- I’m taking care of you this time.” she takes your hand. “I’ve been working on something…before you woke up, I went to the markets and I found this mage…I got this vial from her. Well technically, I got two, but I wanted to make sure it worked before I gave it to you but anyways-”
Your sister cuts herself off, and looks at you, holding your gaze with determination. “While you were gone for those seven months, your garden died out, but I poured one of the vials over the roots- It grew back Y/N! Overnight! The only problem is they returned to their normal state after around two weeks, which was the night before you woke up. But the mage will be in town all month, so I can stock up and you can keep taking it until your body takes over naturally! I think… I think it’ll work.”
Your stare at her in disbelief. You were out for two weeks?! You couldn't believe it. You want to cry, you want to sing, you want to hug her, but you can’t.
“I’ll make you better Y/N, I promise. It’s the least I can do.”
Eri gives you the vial that night, tilting your head back and tipping the concoction into your mouth, the liquid tasting strangely sour, but bitter as well.
As soon as you swallow, you start to feel drowsy, falling asleep as Eri strokes your hair soothingly.
***
When you wake up, your burns are gone. The hair that has been burnt off has grown to its normal length, and it doesn’t hurt to swallow anymore.
Eri’s there by your side, curled up against you, asleep.
“Morning ‘nana” you croak, tucking a strand of her hand behind her ear, unable to keep the smile out of your voice. It…worked?!
Eri’s red eyes blink open sleepily, disoriented before she realizes that you were speaking.
“Y/N! It worked, oh thank the gods…” she whispers, holding you tight.
You wrap your arms around her, and stare at the ceiling. The gods had given you another chance, even if only for a little over a week - but why?
***
You spent the next few days relearning everything- from how to eat, walk, and eventually fight. Everything you knew was muscle memory, but with new muscles itself, you needed to adjust.
Thankfully, Ejiro was there. That morning, after Eri left, your red headed friend had come in to stop by, already informed of the vial- and you explained everything. To say he was shocked was an understatement.
After he got over it though, he did tease you the slightest bit about your crush, but left it alone for the most part, knowing that physical ailment and heartbreak were both terrible by themselves, but together they were terrible to deal with. According to him, the man named Dabi had escaped, but he and his men had fled after you had passed out- seeing Ejiro, Tenko, and the rest of his troop return, with the orders to protect the village after intercepting a message that was coincidentally meant for the troop that you had fought all the way back in the Chira Forest. Just the thought makes you think about Katsuki.
First, he helped you walk, guiding you slowly around the room until you finally got the hang of it, laughing and jumping, and crying all at once as you slowly regained your life back. You’d never been more grateful for your best friend, helping you as he always had after your mother died, always being your rock.
For once, you had hope.
Slowly, you moved on from the mashed fruits and liquids, making your way to solid foods, starting with bread, to vegetables, and eventually you got used to using your jaws again too. It was funny you thought, getting so emotional over a loaf of bread, but the feeling of digesting solid food was so…liberating? At this point, you’d been healing your broken body for 9 days, feeling more like yourself each second. By the fifth day, Chiyo had decided to let you return home, the contents of the vial speeding up your recovery fairly quickly.
And so, you started to train again.
You found some more of the bladed stars your father had given you in your room, deciding that you should refresh on your aim.
It didn’t go as you planned. You ended up impaling it in a nearby tree, one managed to get stuck on your roof, and another almost ended up killing your brother when he came outside to bring you a glass of water.
But you couldn’t stop.
By some miracle, your skills slowly improved throughout the day, your body remembering what to do- from stance to the smallest tensions your muscles needed to create.
It was sunset now, and you dropped your sword, falling into the soft grass below you and soaking in the coolness it provided, allowing yourself to let your body rest, sinking into the ground.
But you couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was something you needed to do, something that you were missing.
***
You invite Kirishima, Ochako, and Izuku over for dinner that night, and it’s almost like you’re taken back in time, to the night before your life changed.
Your two childhood friends greet you with crushing hugs, a tearful reunion as they fret over you, checking for injuries.
Ushering them all to the table, Hitoshi serves the food, bowls of salads, assorted fruits, and a plate of chicken - Kirishima’s favorite.
You can’t bring yourself to eat though, picking at your food with a fork, and deciding that there was no point in sitting at the table and not doing anything.
Excusing yourself from the table, you stand up and place a bowl over your food- intending to eat later.
“I’m going to go over to Chiyo’s and ask for some pain medication.” you lie, smiling as you leave the dining room, a chorus of “Bye!”s heard from the table. Putting your boots on, you leave your home, sighing as fresh air fills your lungs.
What’s wrong with me?! You think, as you walk down the cobbled stone path that leads to the center of town. You should be happy, you have your life back- what was happening? Why wasn’t everything back to normal- why couldn’t you go back to being who you were?!
When you reach the town square, you see a small boy huddle next to his sister, both most likely around Eri’s age, with tears streaming down both of their cheeks. Your older sister instincts kick in, and you rush to their side immediately. Their names come back to you, remembering how Chiyo used to babysit them, eventually ended up living with the Midoriyas after their father left to go work for King Nezu in the capital.
“Katsuma, Mahero, is everything alright? Where’s In- Mrs. Midoriya?” you asked worriedly - before noticing the paper in their hands.
“Papa…he’s going to go fight the bad guys in the capital because all the troops are being sent there…but Papa can’t fight!” Mahero trembles, the worry evident in her voice.
“I’m scared…” is all Katsuma says, barely a whisper.
Bad guys…in the capital?! How did Inimicus manage to infiltrate Vitoris?! Anxiety gnaws at you from the inside, but you push it down, knowing that your own worry would only agitate the children more.
“I promise everything will be alright. Our army is strong- and your papa will come home safe. Now, let’s go find Inko.”
***
After returning the kids back to their parents, you finally assess the situation. Bakugou, Denki, Hanta, Genken, hell- even Fern Bat, they’d all be in the capital soon - with no way to know what they’re getting into. Dabi…he’d burn everything to ashes. You feel sick to your stomach at the thought. Your friends…dead? Bakugou may have broken your heart, sure - but you didn’t hate him enough to wish death upon him.
Shit.
You knew what you had to do.
***
You really hated lying to your family - considering the first time you left without warning it didn’t end so well.
How ironic is it, that for the second time in a row the night after having dinner with your friends and family, you decide to run to fight for your kingdom?
You get back home late that night, packing a small bag with a week’s worth of food - bread and some dried meat - slipping into your brother’s clothes and putting your hair into the same knot you did when you first left- the experience felt almost like a hallucination, as if you were sent back in time, relieving such a pivotal moment of your life. Except this time, you were prepared. You knew what you were getting yourself into. You had your sword, and your stars, and you knew what was coming.
It felt unreal- all the progress you made, finally coming home, getting your life back, only to go back to square one.
You sighed. This better work.
***
Sneaking out of the house, you make your way down the cobbled path again, heading to the fields where you knew the horse you had rode here on all those months ago would be - having seen the steed galavanting around happily. You felt guilty, taking it away from its new home so soon, but you had to go, soon.
However, you couldn’t find him, his distinctive white coat should’ve been a stark contrast to the darkness of the night, and yet he was nowhere to be seen.
In the midst of your anxious searching, you don’t realize the figure approaching you.
“Where are you going?”
You might as well have been scared shitless, hand on your sword- whirling around to meet a troubled pair of red eyes.
“E-Ejiro…” you ask in disbelief. “How…”
“Y/N, you’re not that discreet.” He sighs, running a hand through his hair. “You’re going to the capital, aren’t you?”
He phrased it like a statement, not a question. Were you really that easy to read? Or was it just because he knew you so well?
You can’t bring yourself to look at him, staring downwards. “Ejiro, I have to do this- they’re not going to stand a chance! You know what Dabi’s capable of, the whole future of Bellorant is in danger here!”
“Well what about you?!” Ejiro snaps, his voice low in order to not wake up the entire village, but it was deafening all the same. “What about your life, about your safety?! You were burned alive, Y/N- you’ve almost died, twice! You’ve only had a week to recover, you need rest!”
You can only stare at him blankly, feeling your heart snap in two. “I need to do this, Ejiro. What’s the point of staying safe if this will eat away at me for the rest of my life?! I can’t do nothing- yes I’ve almost died twice, but I’m still alive right? That has to mean something.”
Ejiro sighs, and you can see the conflict in his eyes. Running his hand through his hair again he looks at you with a sad smile. “I can’t stop you, can I?”
You shake your head, returning your gaze to the ground.
“Then I’m coming with you.”
Your head snaps up at that, opening your mouth to retaliate, but Ejiro beats you to it.
“You’re not the only one who's had to fight before. So if I can’t stop you, at least let me protect you.”
You feel the tears build up in your throat as you wrap your arms around your best friend, hoping the action is enough to convey your gratitude. You’d both come home safe, you promised to yourself, for Ejiro’s sake.
***
Due to last minute changes, you ended up buying some more food at the next village, letting your horse rest before continuing on your journey to the capital, using the map Bakugou had gave you when you made your way home seven months ago.
“Hey…are you scared?” you ask, breaking the comfortable silence that settled between the two of you.
Ejiro looks at you, weighing his words before sighing. “Yeah.” he admits “I don’ t think I’ll ever not be.”
You appreciate his honesty, and yet - you can’t help but feel the knot in your stomach twist with uncertainty, subconsciously rubbing your index finger against your thumb.
Retreat.
***
It’s been five days now, the sun sinking below the horizon as you approach the gates of Vitoris, dismounting your horse (that Ejiro now has affectionately named Samantha, even though your horse was a male) and setting him free, Ejiro following suit as you realize with a sinking heart that the gates are demolished, charred holes burnt through the once durable metal and the gated entrance blown wide open.
Shit.
Running past the gates, you see masses of soldiers, Inimicans and Bellorans alike. It’s a massacre, you see familiar faces from your own troop dead- and it’s horrifying.
Drawing your sword, and Ejiro doing the same, you charge, fending off the black clad soldiers as best you can.
You try to formulate a plan, attempt to find out the easiest way to figure out how to end this quickly, but your mind is filled with thrust, parry, dodge, and so on, your mind trying to keep up with your body. Striking the last of them down, you spot a flash of bright yellow hair in your periphery.
Denki! He was alone, fending off at least five men, and was bleeding from his torso. Shit!
You bolt for the blonde, leaving poor Ejiro to catch up with you, catching the five Inimicans by surprise as you slash at his back.
One down.
Four to go. You and Ejiro each take on one, while Denki takes on another, a deadly dance and a challenge too. Luckily, you knew this dance.
You bring the butt of your sword crashing down onto the top of your opponent’s head - the impact strong enough to cause him to stumble back, giving you the opportunity to kick him in the chest, sending him flat on his back. He’s unconscious, the impact of the stoned pathways knocking him out.
Wait. There were four soldiers you had to fight. Not three.
Whirling around, you realize with a pounding heart that it’s too late - watching just as the fourth soldier impales Denki in the abdomen from behind.
“DENKI!”

Yandere Dungeon Meshi

I began to travel deep into the dungeon at a steady pace. You’re an elf that has a very elegant looking staff along with a purple hoodie crop and a pink skirt and black leggings and boots. You are also quite short for an elf since your height is about 4”12 inches in height. I look around the place that I reached in the dungeon and it seems to be an undiscovered place. It was a lair of some sort and there were plants growing around the area and on the top of the ceiling there was a crack in it that illuminated moonlight.
The moonlight traveled to what appears to be a nest of some sort made of branches but also crystals? I walked over to the nest to get a closer look and I saw 3 iridescent purple eggs in it. I was perplexed I’ve never seen eggs like these ever, but it couldn’t be dragon eggs since they never shine like this.
My inspection was cut short when I heard a loud thud noise that caused me to fall to the ground. When I looked up I saw a large wyvern staring down at me. I gasp in fear and slowly back away “ I - I don’t mean you any harm!” The wyvern stares at me and roars in anger, it flapped towards me now I had no choice but to fight it. I began to cast an ice spell and that formed a sharp blade I then threw it at the wyvern that managed to cut a part of its throat. It shrieked in pain but then it advanced towards me and used its talons to attack me.
“Aghh!!” I felt an awful pain on the side of my stomach and fell to the ground. Tears streamed down my eyes. I couldn’t reach my staff and the wyvern was about to attack me again, I closed my eyes.
But then a lightning strike came out of nowhere and hurled the dragon to the ground. I looked up and saw a group of people advancing towards the wyvern, I could make out two dwarfs , a gnome, half-foot, kobold, a tall-man, and another tall-man that looks to be the leader of the group.
The leader charges towards the wyvern and starts slashing its sides while the other group members attack around it. Then the leader finishes with a final blow to the throat and wyvern falls to the ground.
My breathing starts to get weaker and weaker, the last thing I see is a pair of legs walking in front of me.
Tumblr media
My eyes felt heavy as I began to wake up. As I woke up I noticed that I was on a soft sleeping mat with a pillow.
“ Oh she’s finally awake you guys!” The gnome beside me smiled at me.
When I looked at the side I saw the same group as before and thier leader was looking at me with a relieved smile “ Hey there, I’m so glad you’re finally awake. You took a hard blow from the wyvern but don’t you worry, cause holm here helped heal you back!” Thier leader smiled at me warmly and he also looked quite handsome.
The gnome named holm helped sit me upright “ Oh thank you all so much for saving me and healing me” I thanked the whole group and they all nodded and smiled. The kobold wagged his tail when he saw me.“So who are you and what where doing traveling alone?” I replied to the blue eyed leader “ My name is (y/n) and I’m traveling throughout the dungeon in search of my friend. He’s been missing for 2 weeks and he was last seen going into an unknown dungeon.”
I pulled out the missing poster in my travel bag and hand it to the leader, the black haired girl also takes a look out of curiosity. “ Hm he doesn’t seem familiar to me and we haven’t came across him” says the girl and he hands me back the poster “ Ah alright that’s fine.” The leader looks at me again “ Oh sorry I didn’t introduce myself, my name is kabru and this is my party, that’s rin, holm, kuro, daya, and mickbell.”
I turned to them all and smiled “ Well it’s nice to meet you all.” The tall-man named rin seemed to blush slightly when I smiled. “ How could I repay you all for saving me?”
Kabru looked confused “ Oh no, you don’t have to do anything (y/n)! Saving you was our top priority.”
“But I insist! I mean it’s the least I can do for y’all savin-“ then I heard a loud grumble noise. “ Aww man were so hungry!” The little one called mickbell whined on top of the kobold “ Agreed kuro is too hungry.”
Then I had an idea “ Okay! How about I make you all a decent dinner?” The group looked at me surprised " You know how to cook?" Rin looked at me and wonders. " Yes! I know how to prepare certain meals and since i've been to the dungeon numerous times I also learned how to gather up many ingredients and supplies for cooking. My magic can help with that too."
So after a few minutes I made everyone a hearty meal, ( I also snuck in some of those wyvern eggs in it too btw ;). " This is the best food i've ever had in my entire life!!" Both kuro and mickbell wolved down thier food as rin and daya shake thier heads at thier bad manners. " Now this is even better than the food we had at the surface" holm was happy to have a decent meal. Kabru finished his first serving quickly " Oh man! I need a second bowl of your amazing cuisine (y/n)!"
I chuckled at him " I'm super happy you all love the food so far! But you know this is just a simple meal after all." I give kabru his second helping and he excepts it happily " This is more than just a simple meal this is amazing!" Kabru complimented you and you couldn't help but blush at his words. He noticed this and smiled.
After an amazing meal, kabru and the group wanted me to join thier party. I was slightly hesitant but I decided to join them anyway and they were quite happy about it. I felt a little overwhelmed joining a large group since I never did before but I knew it was for a good cause since they agreed to help me find my missing friend.
Two weeks have passed and there's still no sign of him. I was starting to feel sad that I couldn't find my friend, although traveling with my new group has helped me cheer up from this. Mickbell and kuro are the more playful ones of the group, they would always tell me jokes and pull pranks on the other members that make me laugh. Kuro would also accompany me to pick some herbs and I would pet his head " Kuro loves helping you!" Holm would teach me some healing and elemental magic to add to my spell book, he was always gentle when teaching me and would hold my hand while doing it. Daya loved taking walks with me and we would talk about random things, she also held my hand at one point which caused me to blush. Rin taught me some of her spells and she also accompanied me when I needed some ingredients or herbs for spells. Unbeknownst to me when I was picking some flowers, rin was behind me and stared at my butt, she smiled and licked her lips. When we were having a small snack in a meadow she accidently touched my thigh while grabbing the water " Oh! don't worry, it's alright!" Rin continued to eat her snack and when I looked away she smirked to herself.
When I wanted to take a walk or just clear my head, kabru would always come with me since he didn't want me to walk alone and protect me. He would always listen to anything I needed to let out and give me reassurance " Don't worry (y/n) he'll show up soon". He also helped me prepare dinner for everyone and would gather and cut up some ingredients for me. I also made him a flower crown while out in the meadow and he really loved it. Sometimes while we're traveling he would hold my hand, this isnt the first time he did this but I knew if I resisted he would just hold my hand again. He also rubbed my ear one time a butterfly was on it I was speechless after that.
After a fight with another monster in the dungeon, me and kabru sat together staring at the lake. “ So (y/n), I was wondering. When we finally find your friend what are you going to do next?”
I turned to kabru and spoke “ Well.. I do hope to find him soon. But when we do I’ll we will probably have to part ways from there.” Kabru paused and stared at me shocked “ Y-your gonna leave?” I was a little confused at his reaction but I wanted to give him a straightforward answer “ Oh um well yes. After we find my friend I plan on returning to the surface with him and be finished with this place” kabru looked at me again with an expression of conflict and stared at he ground “ huh I see.”
Tumblr media
“What?! She’ll leave after we find him?!” Rin was very angry at the news kabru told her, why would you want to leave them?
“Yeah” kabru looked down in frustration “ I tried to convince her to stay a little longer but she didn’t want to.” The whole group looked sad, none of them wanted you to leave at all. Mickbell loved it when you laughed at his antics and jokes, he also enjoyed when you made little gifts for him. Kuro grew an attachment to you and he loved it when you called him a good boy and petted him. Holm and daya enjoyed taking walks with you and teaching them some of thier skills. Rin absolutely loved gathering supplies with you since that’s when the both of you are alone together. She held the jewel necklace you made for her and caressed it.
But with kabru, he loved all the time you get to spend together. Whether it be helping you cook or small tasks like tying up your hair or gathering herbs , he relished all the moments he had with you.
Rin felt devastated by the news she wanted to try to convince you to stay but she didn’t know how. “ So what the hell do we do now then?” She looked at kabru for an answer “ Honestly I don’t even know. Bu-“ suddenly his mind trailed to something else, your friend. He’s the whole reason why you wanted to leave the dungeon. Kabru thought to himself and got slightly angry, it always falls back to your friend on the reasoning behind your departure. But he couldn’t let that happen, he won’t let that happen.
He then had an idea is his mind, it was good that it was night time and you were sleeping right now. Hopefully he can convince rin and holm to help him do this “ Hey I think I actually have an idea come with me.” The group followed kabru “ So? What are we doing?”
“ Oh I think you’re all going to enjoy this” kabru had a dark smirk on his face and led the group to someplace.
Tumblr media
The next day I was traveling with the group and I noticed that everyone was quite happy today. Rin kept holding my hand the whole time even though I declined too. Holm and daya kept giving me smiles through thier glances. When we made a small stop kuro gave me a lick on the cheek “Gahh! Kuro you know I don’t like that!” This made kuro and mickbell chuckle.
I made some snack for everyone with my magic and we all ate together while talking about random things. Rin and kabru kept staring at me with a smile as I talked to holm and the others, they looked at one another and both nodded. Both of them had a silent conversation with thier eyes and smirked.
After a while, kabru led us to a staircase in the dungeon we were heading in and that’s when I spotted something familiar. I stopped in my tracks which made everyone pause “ Wait that looks like-“ I recognized the weapon on the ground is the sword that belonged to my friend. “What’s that (y/n)?” Mickbell looked at the item in curiosity.“ This is (f/n)’s sword, he should be down there guys cmon!” I picked his sword up and immediately went down the stairs.
Everyone else followed me, “ Take your time (y/n)! I don’t want you to trip on anything” kabru caught up to my speed “ I know that, but he could be here down there!” I moved past him, then him and rin went beside each other smirked again.
Then we finally made our way down the stairs and I saw a dimly lit room. “ He has to be in here” I advanced towards the room and everyone followed, I was unaware of the dark gazes they had behind me. “ (f/n)! Are you in here?” I looked around and don’t see him anywhere, I then realized how dimly lit the room was so I used some of my lighting magic to make the place brighter.
The room lit up and that’s when I froze. There was blood splattered everywhere and then I see pieces of flesh and body parts scattered around the place and then my eyes went to a severed human head laying in front of me….it was (y/n). I let out a loud guttural scream from my mouth. I fell to the floor and backed away from his head.
Tears started streaming down my eyes, “N-no! Why!? Why is this happening?! noooo!!” Kabru came beside me and held me gently " I- Im so sorry (y/n)." I cried harder into Kabru's chest and held me tighter, rin went beside me held my back " Im sorry angel, but were to late. It seems a monster must've killed him."
I looked at her with my tear stained face, " But what could've done this?" I see the rest of the group appear " Well, this must be the work of a griffin since they're the only monster that could do this amount of damage" holm explained solemnly and daya was by his side looking around the place. Kuro and mickbell went up to me " Please don't cry (y/n), it hurts our hearts when you do" mickbell and kuro hugged me.
After this horrifying discovery, I decided to gather up my friend's body parts and give him a proper burial. I felt crushed and devastated finding (f/n) like this. We were going to return to the surface together, but now it's not possible. Kabru and his group helped so much during this dreadful time, I'm so thankful to have met them. I couldn't just leave them like that it wouldn't feel right and these are the people that saved my life. So I decided to officially join their group and they couldn't have been more excited for it. I was playing around with kuro and mickbell while casting some fun spells along with them. Holm and daya was playfully chasing us around the place.
Between a few trees stood both kabru and rin looking upon the sight in amusement and tenderness. Rin chuckled " Look at her, so cute huh?"
" Heh, yeah I'm glad she's feeling so much better now" He replied while looking at me lovingly. Rin turned to him " And shes here to stay with us permanently " She states rather maliciously. Kabru nods and rin follows him deeper into the woods " I told you that she wouldn't suspect anything" rin grinned at him. " Well we can thank holm for that and your ability that helped us detect him." They both came to a stop " You did a huge number on him though. You went completely berserk on him like a real demon. But I'll admit that it was pretty satisfying" she smiled at the memory of (f/n)'s screams.
Kabru gave her a dark smile " Well seeing him made me feel nothing but rage but that doesn't mean I regret it" His mind went back to when he was covered in blood and smiled sadistically at your friends body. Kabru laughs and looks at rin
" After all shes ours now "

“Nonono, the blue one was a million times better,” Sunoo said, pointedly ignoring the deathly glares of Felix, your head maid.
“Maybe it would be if I were going out for an evening ball or something, but it's a bit much for seeing a guest over some tea,” you reply dismissively, inspecting the girl standing in the three large mirrors placed round the circular platform you’d been standing on for the past hour, shifting uncomfortably from one foot to another as your maids brought dress after dress out from your closet and whisked you through trying them on one by one.
Sunoo rolled his eyes at the statement, marching towards your vanity and sifting through the jewelry scattered across it till he settled on a length of thin silk ribbons. “Babes, be real with me here, it's not just some tea party and you know it.”
The three maids who'd been helping you into the layers of lace and silk that made up the soft buttercup yellow gown Felix had chosen stepped to the side to give Sunoo room on the platform behind you, having learned very early on that there was little to no point in trying to stop him.
Ribbon in hand, he began weaving the silky material through the hairstyle they'd arranged as neatly and prettily as possible, ignoring a pained noise from the one nearest him. “I mean, it's not every day your fiance comes all the way out to your family’s manor on the outskirts of the city to make sure the bride-to-be he doesn’t actually care about hasn't lost all her marbles.”
You didn’t understand how Sunoo managed to carry on chattering with their eyes boring holes into the back of his head, especially when their dirty looks were nothing compared to the expression on Felix’s face–his twitching left eye reminded you of a glitching video game character–but he did, carrying on as if it were just the two of you in the room.
“Your Grace,” Felix’s voice was strained, “I really do wish you wouldn't say such things to her Highness.”
“What? That her beloved fiance's come to see her?” Sunoo said, batting his eyes and pouting in mock innocence.
“That’s not what I meant and you know it,” Felix snapped back, eyes darting between his face and the silk in his hands.
“You know she doesn’t really care, right? Why would she care about that cold-hearted stone-faced bas-”
“Sunoo!” you gasped, cutting him off by stomping on one of his fluffy house slippers with the toe of the wildly uncomfortable heel that had been forced onto your foot. You swear you see the corner of Felix’s lip twitch at the strangled noise your best friend makes.
“Ow ?! That was uncalled for- what’s with the look? Is anything I’m saying wrong?”
“No, but you still shouldn’t be talking that way about a member of the royal family,” you reply with irritation, “you not liking him doesn’t take away from the fact that he’s the fucking prince now does it?”
In your peripheral, the three maids shift uncomfortably, and Felix doesn’t even try to hide a long-suffering sigh, making a mental note to inform your tutor that your etiquette lessons still weren’t sticking the way they should.
Sunoo sees this, of course–grinning evilly at you. “It would seem that it doesn’t change the fact that you’re a princess either, Your Highness, better wash out that potty mouth of yours before your dearly betrothed arrives.”
You nearly grab a handful of your skirts to give yourself enough mobility to kick him, but Felix launches himself in your direction before you have the chance, shoving Sunoo rather unceremoniously to one side and holding your wrists under the guise of guiding you off the platform.
“An excellent idea Your Grace, but I fear we have neither the time nor the soap for such an endeavor as m’lady’s presence is needed in the garden.”

It really was a scene straight from one of your romance manhwas; a neatly laid tea table under a pearly white gazebo, your gloved hand wrapped delicately round the gilded handle of a steaming cup of tea–the picture of perfection in your soft yellow dress that matched the white and yellow roses blooming in the bushes surrounding you perfectly.
They filled the cool morning breeze with their sweet perfume, sending ripples across the clear blue lake so it glittered in the morning sun.
  It was beautiful.
  So beautiful.
And yet it still didn’t quite compare to the man sitting accross from you.
You’d read his description countless times. Everything from the plush curve of his lips to the sharp intensity held in his dark eyes… yet nothing could have prepared your heart for the sound of his laughter, carried to you over the foliage, the sight of those lips spread in an easy smile as he chatted with your brother, shoulders shaking with mirth.
Nor, you think, could anything have braced you for the chill that would run down your spine when his smile dropped the second Soobin said his goodbyes, worriedly whispering a plea for you to ‘behave yourself’ as he kissed your cheek and left the two of you alone. Your chest constricting almost painfully when those same dark eyes that you’d squealed and giggled over late at night fixed on you, void of any emotion.
He'd stood from his place at the table to greet you, bowing formally in reply to the curtsy your poor tutor had drilled into your bones.
  “(y/n).”
  “Your highness.”
“You look to be in good health.”
“I am, the family doctor and my handmaids have tended to me with so much care since the incident, recovering well is the very least I could do.”
  An awkward pause.
“You seem to be in good health too, Your Highness.”
You could’ve kicked yourself when the prince simply nodded and thanked you in return–a flash of something like recognition passing behind his eyes–before they went back to that easy, indifferent facade you supposed was crafted especially for Princess (y/n). ‘which makes sense,’ you mentally deadpan, ‘she was about as close to a crazy yandere psycho as you could get without actually killing anyone.’
Still, those simple pleasantries, taken straight from the pages of volume two of your etiquette lessons, were the only words exchanged in greeting.
It made even the silvery morning breeze feel stifling.
Ever the gentleman, the prince pulled out your chair, made sure you were comfortable, and nodded once to your guard. “All is well with the knights of the (l/n) estate, Han?”
The effort it took to refrain from snapping your head up and giving them both a confused once-over was monumental. It hadn't occurred to you that the crown prince would be familiar with any of your personal guards, though you supposed it made sense. Most of them had, according to Felix, been looking after you since you were only nine or ten, of course they'd be on friendly terms with your fiance.
“We've been keeping busy, Your Highness,” Han said, and you could almost hear the smile in his voice. Knowing him, he was probably rocking back and forth on his heels, hands clasped behind his back.
“That's good to hear,” the prince nodded, settling into the seat across from you, “I fear the royal knights have grown rather complacent since the relief and revelry that followed the war, it has been a task for General Jeong to whip them back into shape.”
“I can imagine,” Han chuckled. “But really, who could blame them, it’s taken us a long time to reach this peace, what good would it be if we didn’t take at least a moment here or there to enjoy it? As it is, I doubt we would have stayed so diligent if it weren’t for Her Grace, (y/n)’s been coming down to the training grounds and asking us to teach her some basic swordsmanship of late.”
While Han was probably puffing up his chest and beaming proudly over at the prince, thrilled to share the good news that you were finally taking your swordsmanship and safety more seriously, you were trying to avoid choking on air.
There were many things that you didn’t know about Princess (y/n) (l/n)–daughter of an esteemed archmage and revered general–but one of the things that had been emphasised enough in the novel enough for it to stick firmly in your mind was this: she was a frivolous, selfish, bitter disappointment to her bloodline. Squandering the skills she’d inherited from her mother to brew potions that only served her own selfish needs, and refusing to entertain the possibility that she could possibly take after the father she loathed for abandoning her to fight in the war .
She would never willingly break a sweat.
Especially for the sake of swinging around a big heavy old sword.
And it seemed the prince was thinking the same thing, his next words directed at you. “I didn’t know you’d developed an interest in adopting such strenuous hobbies.”
“I… I suppose almost dying will do that to you.”
  “Indeed…”
There was a brief pause, in which the prince looked like he was contemplating the milky way while stirring a cube of sugar into his tea. Setting your nerves on edge as you wondered if now was a good time to bring up wanting to end your engagement, or if you should try and “ease into the subject more naturally” as your tutor had told you with his head in his hands, tears of frustration pricking at the corners of his eyes after witnessing just how “abrupt” your manner of speaking was.
You were still turning the words over in your mind when his voice cut through your thoughts, crisp and clipped despite the concern you guessed the inquiry was meant to show. “I was told that you were caught in a storm.”
“I was,” you nod with a bit too much enthusiasm, relieved to finally have an excuse to fill the silence. “I was told that I was on my way back from visiting a cousin who happened to be staying in town when a sudden storm hit us and knocked my carriage into a ravine-”
“You were ‘told’ that you were on your way back from visiting a cousin? That fact doesn’t come from your own memory?”
You blink, caught off guard by his interruption. ‘Isn’t that rude? Is he allowed to be rude because he’s a prince or because he’s my fiance? But wait he shouldn’t be rude either way? Ah screw it, being mad won’t help my case anyway so…’
“Yes, I believe His Grace mentioned in his letter to the palace that the event and the fever that followed seems to have caused a condition the doctors refer to as temporary amnesia, my memories are only there in bits and pieces.”
  “Is this memory loss permanent?”
“No, we suspect I’ll start remembering things  little by little, a few are already coming back to me,” you say, one hand gripping the material of your skirt in an attempt to keep your voice pleasant and calm.
Sure, the prince didn’t like the princess much, but that didn’t mean he had to be a prick about it, he could afford to be nicer when he was asking questions about her literally forgetting her entire identity. If you didn’t know how awful she’d be a few years down the road, you would’ve found him insufferable.
“I see…” he said, still slowly stirring his tea.
“What exactly do you see, Your Highness,” you smile a little tersely, bringing your own cup up to your lips, praying that the lipstick your maids had chosen was transfer-proof.
The prince raised an eyebrow at you, apparently picking up on the shift in your tone.  “Nothing… I’m simply intrigued by your sudden change in character, and the rather dramatic event that you claim caused it.”
It takes you a moment to process his words, and a moment more for agitation to prickle under your skin. ‘The fudge muffin does he mean claim?? I fell off a hill??? Hannie carried me back??? I was out of my mind for a week???’
Reminding yourself over and over again that in his mind he was talking to someone who definitely wasn’t you, you press your lips into one of the polite, plastic smiles Sunoo had been practicing with you. “I apologise for not hitting my head on something less dramatic… I’ll be sure to aim for the carriage windows instead of massive tree branches if it would be more convenient for you… Your Highness.”
“What would have been more convenient for me, and all parties involved, would be your learning to heed warnings, and refrain from traipsing off into town when you know that the sky bodes ill,” he replied smoothly, ignoring the agitation in your voice.
“I’ll do my best to remember that then, Your Highness,” you say through gritted teeth, taking a fortifying sip of your rich floral tea, immediately wondering how the prince could possibly drink something so naturally sweet with even more sugar.
Your answer seemed to surprise him, another flash of… something crossing his features before it vanished just as quickly as the one before.
“Very well,” he nodded, bringing the sugary concoction he’d like to call tea to his lips, distracting you slightly with the way his adam’s apple bobbed as he drank.
‘Oh he hates my guts but dear mother of cheesy romance he’s definitely this world’s male lead…’ you mused, shaking your head slightly to get yourself back on track. You were annoyed. Very annoyed. And the source of that annoyance was speaking to you again.
“I came here today to confirm for myself that you have indeed recovered fully, now that I’ve made sure of that there really is no reason for me to linger longer than necessary,” he said, setting down his cup with such practiced ease that it barely made a sound.
Alarm buzzed under your skin, causing you set your own cup down with much less grace than intended, a sharp clinking noise ringing through the empty gardens. “I- oh shoot- Your Highness there’s actually something I need to discuss with you before-”
“If it concerns the steadily growing pile of invitations and inquiries piling up on your writing desk we needn’t bother with any discussion,”  he said, cutting you off without missing a beat, already signalling to the guards–who’d moved away at some point to offer you both more privacy–indicating that he intended to stand and leave. "As long as you stick to the promise you just made to listen to your guards and His Grace, you’re allowed to attend and host as many gatherings as your heart desires, just know that I will not be able to accept any invitations, I am a busy man-”
“Your Highness,” you all but snapped, lips pursed into a thin line, as if sealing them together would stop the flurry of expletives in your mouth from rolling off your tongue.
“(y/n),” he said mildly, raising an eyebrow.
“That is not what I wanted to discuss, but while we’re here, why the hell would I need your permission to attend any kind of gathering?”
The prince blinked blankly, holding up a hand to signal both his and your guards to wait. “What are you on about (y/n)? You’re my fiance.”
“Yes, exactly, fiance, and by arrangement, not by choice.”
“I can’t say I follow your meaning, both these things are well established.”
You swore your eyes nearly popped out of your skull with the effort it took not to roll them. “If I were your wife, or your partner by choice I would, to a certain degree, understand if you wanted me to give you a heads up before I go out-”
  “A head?...”
“But I’m not, and at this rate I’m really not sure I want to be, I’m an individual totally separate from you, these are my decisions to make, you have no right to dictate my comings and goings… Your Highness.”
The Prince went silent, watching you steadily, his calm an aggravating contrast to the tense knot of anger and anxiety lodged in your throat. ‘Oh… oh… I’m so sorry Mr. Park…’ you whisper a silent apology in your head and offer a few prayers for your tutor and the vein in his forehead’s good health.
“What exactly do you mean by ‘at this rate I’m really not sure I want to be’, Princess.”
The chill that runs down your spine when he uses your title instead of your name is immediate, your hands going slightly numb in the silken confines of your gloves.
“I mean that… that I don’t want to marry a complete stranger,” you manage, fumbling through whatever you could salvage from the script you and Sunoo had prepared.
“Is that what you'd call someone you’ve known since childhood?” he scoffed, the annoyance creasing his brows the most feeling he’d shown in response to you since his arrival.
“Well from the way you’ve spoken to me till now I can’t exactly consider you a friend now can I?” you seethe, regretting it almost instantly when his expression twists into something almost like hurt. You’re not sure why he made that face, but in a moment it’s gone, and no matter how it made you feel, you have a goal here. Not. Dying.
Which probably meant that pissing off the crown prince wasn’t the best idea. But oh well.
“I have no memory of you, Your Highness, as far as my mind is concerned, today is our first meeting… and from what I can see, the boy who’s meant to be my future husband sees me as either an object or a nuisance… I was hoping that meeting you would ease my mind about this whole engagement thing, but I’m sure now. I don’t want this.”
The prince stared at you for a few moments, expression unreadable, and you guess that–aside from what you hope looks like defience and resolve–you look much the same.
When the world finally clicks back into motion, he nods once. “You do know that dissolving this agreement between our families is not something to be taken lightly? While our parents cannot force us into marriage, they will still try to convince us of our obligations.”
He looked up then, and something in his expression was different. It was still indifferent and unreadable as it had been, but there was a softness to it that you couldn’t quite place. It was confusing. “I understand, I know it won’t be easy, but this is my wish,” you say, relaxing slightly in your own seat.
“If that is what you want… I will speak to my father once things have settled down within the palace… I jest about the knights and their complacency, but the air is less than still, war is a messy business, and cleaning up the aftermath will take some time.”
“I can wait… till next spring, but you must have asked him by then.”
“I will,” he nods, “and I’ll write to you once it is done so you may speak with His Grace as well.”
  “Thank you… it’s appreciated…”
You stay like that for a beat longer, staring at each other from across an intricately laid tea table, each of you wondering what the other must be thinking.
“If that is all… I shall take my leave,” he says, breaking the odd trance. Standing, waves your guards over, and you take that as your cue to stand and curtsy as well.
“It was a pleasure meeting you, Your Highness, the (l/n) family thanks you for your time.”
  “Likewise,” he says, bowing.
Han and two other knights make their way over, wearing slightly troubled expressions, you guess they must’ve heard more than they were meant to. But it doesn’t matter, you think, eventually the news of the broken engagement would be the talk of the town, you shouldn’t be embarrassed about a few knights getting a preview.
“Before I go,” the prince says, “you should know that you never needed my permission for anything, (y/n). You may come and go as you please, you are an individual capable of thought and making her own decisions, as you say. However you must understand that to the public eye, you are the future crown princess, and that is not something to be taken lightly. It is my duty to do what I can to protect the royal family’s image, and having my fiance attend tea parties and balls when she is not in her right mind would have been foolish, to say the least.”
He’s being earnest, you realise. Apologising in his own roundabout way. Maybe. Whatever it is, you choose to take it, knowing that beneath whatever dislike he may hold for the former princess, Park Jongseong was a good person.
“I… I’ll remember that in future…” you murmur.
  “Good… and one last thing.”
  “By all means.”
“I know now that you have no memory of me, but you should know that you’ve never called me by my title.”
“Oh?” to your memory, the princess had never called him anything but his title, he wouldn’t allow it. “Did I… call you by your given name?”
For the first time, he smiles at you, and you curse your heart for the way it flutters in your chest. “No, I don’t expect you to use it if it brings you discomfort, but the nickname you gave me when we were six was ‘Jay’, because you said I resembled a bird by the same name.”
  “A Blue jay?”
“Yes, my hair was lighter then.”
That confuses you slightly, his hair is black, as far as you can tell, but you ignore it, choosing to smile politely and nod along. “It must have been a very handsome bird.”
“It was rather ugly, actually,” he says, walking down the gazebo steps to join his guards. “I bid you farewell, Princess, the royal family thanks you for your time.”
“Likewise,” you respond, watching him as he goes. Noting with a hint of amusement that his hair shines blue in the now bright morning sun.
“What was all that about?” a voice says, and, predictably, Sunoo appears from one of the side paths.
“Were you listening the whole time?”
“Well I tried, but the fountain was too loud, only caught some yelling.”
“Some guard you are,” you whine, smacking Han on the arm as he joins the two of you, “did you even realise a sneaky little rat was eavesdropping?
“Ow! For your information I did, but I figured there was no point chasing him round the gardens when I knew you’d be inviting that rat to tea anyways.”
“That is very true,” you sigh, grabbing a plate and settling yourself across from Sunoo–who already had a mint chocolate chip cookie stuffed in his mouth.

“(y/n)! Forget soap we’re gonna need bleach for that mouth tonight,” Sunoo cries, doubled over in a fit of giggles.
“I knowwww,” you groan, massaging your temples. “Mr. Park’s gonna kill me.”
Sunoo shakes his head. “You make the poor guy sound like an old man, you do realise he’s only our senior by about two years, right?”
“He’s still my tutor! I’m trying to show some respect, as a thank you for how patient he is with my dumb ass.”
“He deserves a raise,” Han chips in, settled on the marble gazebo rails with a plate of cheesecake in hand.
“He doessss,” Sunoo agrees, waving a teaspoon for emphasis.
“You’re all really mean y’know,” you sigh, slumping over the table and grabbing one of Sunoo’s hands and moving it into the shape of a rabbit.
“Not as mean as Sunghoon’s about to be when he sees your posture,” Sunoo says.
“What do you mea- Oh! Good morning Professor Park!”

Part One
Y/N had always been an early riser.
But since she came home late at night, when everyone was already sleeping, she groaned at the sound of the alarm clock by her bedside table. She should have stayed at her apartment unit, not her family home. But she misses the home-cooked meals here at home.
And if she doesn’t get up, she’ll definitely miss it.
The girl was done with her usual morning routine, just brushing her teeth, when there was a knock on her door. She shouted for the person to come in and she could hear small pitter-patter steps that made her smile, “Noona, you’re home!” the six-year-old Junyoung shouted while running to give her a tight hug. If there is one thing - person rather - that she missed the most in this house, that will be her younger brother. “Jungwoo hyung said she saw your car outside so I knocked on your door.” He shared while giggling. He might have missed her as much.
“Sorry if I haven’t been coming home,” she claimed, picking him up and groaning that he had gotten heavier and bigger.
She remembered when he was a newborn and she had the opportunity to carry Junyoung, she was so scared of the change in her family. But now, she was ecstatic at the change that happened.
When she was the same as Junyoung’s age, all she could remember were the sound of the thunderous night, muffled cries, and shouting.
She was relieved at the change that happened in her life.
The younger boy had been chatting non-stop about his school activities that made his older brother laugh, “You missed Y/N so much, don’t you?” The girl smiled at Jungwoo before grinning at the young kid who only giggled as an answer. “I was surprised to see your car early this morning. What time did you come home?”
Y/N took a bite of the bacon before answering that it was already early morning when she arrived home. “You didn’t even tell us you were coming home.” Doyoung, the oldest of the brothers, claimed. The girl smiled, she didn’t even intend to come home. But her apartment is on the opposite way and she doesn’t want a man to struggle finding his way home. “Where have you been?”
“Bachelorette party,” she answered quietly.
“So that’s why Mr. Song thanked me for the Maserati.” the patriarch of the household claimed, smiling at her. “He was repeatedly thanking me as he saved a fortune for his future son-in-law’s gift.”
Doyoung’s eyes widened in surprise, “A Maserati for a wedding gift? Y/N, aren’t you spending too much?”
The girl reasoned out that the groom-to-be kept on complimenting her car so she decided to just give them a car instead. “And I took it from my funds so you don’t have to audit anything.” The eldest male smiled proudly at her.
“Didn’t I set you up with that guy? From the hospital chain, right?” Y/N’s mother asked in a serious tone. The girl nodded. She did. “Have you been attending the meet-ups I set you up with?” The males on the table became quiet. “All your friends have been married, what do you plan to do with your life?”
The younger female stared at the older. She now remembered why she hated going home.
A small smile escaped her lips before eating her breakfast quietly. The father lightly coughed before continuing, “I heard you secured a deal with a French investor. That was amazing!” She nodded, smiling warmly at him.
Y/N was about to share about the multi-million deal when the matriarch spoke up, “I’m scheduling a meet-up for you tomorrow night. You have to meet him.” She gave a heavy sigh before nodding.
She shouldn’t have come home.
—--
Jungwoo was talking on the phone the whole ride. It’s fascinating to Y/N how she was driving on the same road with a different person in the passenger seat. When he put down the phone, he only leaned on the leather chair and stared at her. “You know when I told Junyoung you’re home, he started sprinting to your room. He misses you so much.”
The girl giggled at how endearing her younger brother was. “I did miss him as well,” she claimed then turned to the person in the passenger seat. “I also miss you, Woo.”
The guy gave a hearty laugh and Y/N wondered how he resembled Junyoung so much. They both gave such a puppy vibe that it wasn’t hard to be close to him. “You saw me in the company yesterday.”
“I always see your picture whenever I enter the company, Woo.” He laughed giddily. It isn’t even a surprise that the model Kim Jungwoo is the face of their own company and he has been great in that field ever since he started. With his tall height and very handsome face, the younger Kim evidently has everything. “Are you enjoying your work?”
Jungwoo nodded. He had been modeling for different products, always on the magazine covers, and even walking the runways of New York, Milan, and Paris. “I wouldn’t even enjoy this if not for you.” Y/N shushed him. “I mean it, Y/N. Doyoung hyung feels the same way but you know he’s not good at expressing his emotions.” The girl shook her head, he shouldn’t say anything. “We’re thankful that you stepped up in this responsibility and Dad found his business-minded child in you.”
Y/N gripped the steering wheel harder. “I hope Mom,” then Jungwoo stopped. “I mean your mom eases up on you like what she does to the three of us.”
She pursed her lips at that. Even if Jungwoo isn’t blood-related, she knows how sympathetic he is when he comes to her. He understands her better than she understands herself. Maybe that’s why she warmed up to him first when their father and her mother got married. When he asked if she could drive him to his photoshoot, she knew that he only wanted to talk to her about something.
“The guys introduced to you,” he started. “Are they truly that bad?”
Y/N laughed at the question before nodding. “They’re spoiled jerks.” Jungwoo gave a groan of disgust that earned a chuckle from her.
She’s very thankful for his stepbrother's presence in her life.
—---
The valet was easily on her aid when she stopped the car in front of her apartment building. The staff of the high-end establishment greeted her as she made her way to the penthouse of the said building. Her own home. Her safe place. Y/N had only been out of the place for a night but she missed the place and the solitude it brings.
Here, she could be who she truly is.
Once settled in the room, she removed her light makeup and sat on the couch. She removed her contact lens, replacing it with her thick-rimmed glasses. The dark living room and the warm confines of her blanket made her sigh.
“Don’t you feel lonely?”
The question came to her as she stared at her own reflection from the television. She had everything but why does she feel empty? She has a loving family, friends, and co-workers who seem okay but why does she feel alone? She is obviously happy with her life but why does she feel sad?
Unconsciously, she stared at the cup of coffee warm in her hands. The color of darkness. Bitter coffee.
Just like her life.
One side of her lips curled up in a smirk, why is she so lonely?
Even while listening to the presentation in front of her, her mind was on the endless questions forming in her mind. Should she stop obsessing about the company? She wasn’t even the chairman’s son, wasn’t even a blood relative. She’s only a daughter on paper, a stepdaughter. What makes her think that she can be the next president of the hard-earned family company? Maybe her mom was right. She should just marry rich and wish that her husband wouldn’t care about business and let her run the company.
But it’s more of an idea than a reality as she listened to the conceited guy in front of her talk about how his father was happy that he had a chance to meet her. He kept addressing her as the company president’s daughter which made her think twice about why she agreed to meet him. And really, him? Her mom could do better.
He’s not even as handsome as the guy she met the other night. Not as interesting to talk to.
But why is she even comparing the two?
This guy definitely has nothing against Yuta.
When they were teens, she remembered her stepdad always telling his sons to always be a gentleman. Never let a girl open a door or hold her chair, always let her order first, and drive her home. Doyoung and Jungwoo both adhere to that and Y/N wouldn’t be surprised that her youngest brother, Junyoung, would be the same gentleman as his brothers. A quality the guy in front of her doesn’t have.
She was thankful though. He had an eye-catching bright yellow Audi and the thought that someone could see her in that showy car made her shiver. Immediately, she texted Jungwoo that the date was a disaster and she hated the guy before putting her phone in her handbag. A piece of folded paper inside the handbag captured her attention.
Maybe she’ll lessen her loneliness tonight.
The strip club is different from what she imagined it to be. The bouncer just gave her a look while she headed inside, her fingers playing with the folded paper. The speakers boom sensual music and from the stage, she can see men in their small underwear grinding their bodies to the music. Women flock to the stage as the smell of sweat, alcohol, and cigarette smoke fills the lively gold-embellished room.
This doesn’t seem like a good idea.
What was the instruction again? Find the manager, give this paper, and ask for Yuta. Yuta Nakamoto. She tried to remember.
“Hi baby girl,” someone called making her turn to the owner of the voice. She was wide-eyed when she was facing a shirtless man, smiling at her. “Are you lost?” Wait, she remembered him. The tall guy from the bachelorette party. He probably knows Yuta right? “You look like you’re new here.”
She breathed heavily before handing him the piece of paper, “I’m looking for Yuta Nakamoto.”
The guy stared at the paper before glancing at her with a questionable expression. “I’ll call him. Wait for me at the bar.” Y/N only nodded, walking to where he pointed at.
The uniformed man tending the bar was smiling when she sat on one of the high chairs, asking her what she wanted to drink. Should she drink? But she needed to drive back to her apartment. In the end, she asked for a non-alcoholic drink. It’s a different environment that she kept on guarding herself. This is more nerve-wracking than presenting in front of board members.
Is this even a good idea? Maybe she could still make an escape.
“Hey,” Y/N turned to see Yuta smiling at her. He was wearing a denim vest with a gray tank top underneath and a cowboy hat. She was suddenly thankful that he was rather clothed unlike the guy earlier. “You came.”
She mirrored the same smile as him. “You said to find you when I wanted a drink.”
Yuta chuckled, then eyed the drink that the bartender just served her. “Well, you wouldn’t be drunk with that.”
“I have to drive back.”
The guy shook his head, “I’ll get you a substitute driver.” Y/N nodded, putting her full trust in this man. “Whiskey?” Once again, she nodded. He ordered a bottle from the bartender and then glasses before asking Y/N to follow him.
If the girl thought that was chaotic, she wasn’t prepared for the image by the hallways of the strip club. Couples were making out, not even reaching one of the many doors on both sides of the wall. It already seemed like a brothel. Now, she wonders what activities are happening inside the rooms. She shrugged, she didn't want to know.
Yuta opened one of the doors, letting the girl inside. He pushed open the lights which had a purple mood lighting that startled Y/N. With another push of the switch, the lights turned white. The room isn’t too bad. There was a couch in the middle with a small table, and a sound system located on the side of the room. The floor has a huge carpet but the ceiling has mirrors which she found odd. “Please feel at home,” The side of her lips curled up. That is a weird sentence.
She sat down on the black leather couch as he put down the whiskey bottle and glasses on the table. Yuta walked to where the sound system was and started playing a sensual song that startled her. “Don’t mind the music, it’s just so the club manager won’t bother us.”
Y/N lightly gulped at the idea that there were only the two of them inside the room so she tried easing her nerves by fidgeting on her seat and taking notice of anything around. Should she run away? Ask him how he was. “You’re wearing a cowboy outfit.” The girl noted as Yuta sat beside her on the couch.
He started pouring drinks into one glass and handing it to her, “I was supposed to have a dance set next.”
“Oh,” she claimed before drinking the whiskey in one gulp. That was so strong that she couldn’t help but hiss at the burning of her throat. “Then I came early.” Yuta smiled before pouring her whiskey. “You’re already making me drunk.”
The guy laughed, “Isn’t that the idea why you’re here?”
She smiled. It is. But it also isn’t at the same time. She now wondered why she was here in the first place. She took another gulp of the whiskey and then poured another into her glass, chugging the contents as if just drinking water. “I went on a date with a guy,” she started. Yuta just stared at her, listening intently. “He kept on saying that his father was happy that I agreed to see his son.” Another shot of whiskey. “Maybe his father was the one who wanted to marry me.” She tried to say it in the most humorous way possible. “Or they just want the company, not me.”
Yuta brushed the strand of hair away from her face, staring at how she downed another shot of whiskey. “A company that isn’t mine to begin with.” She tried to pour the liquor into her glass but nothing came out of the bottle that made her chuckle. “In the end, I’m the only one who got drunk.”
The guy smiled before giving her a light chuckle, “You’re so easily drunk, Y/N.” he teased while taking the empty bottle of whiskey. “Your face is so red.”
She started feeling her cheeks and then her forehead before laughing at herself. She does feel warm. “I have never drank this much. My mom will definitely kill me.” Yuta chuckled at that then stood up to maybe get her something light to drink but before he could leave her side, she held his wrist. “Since I’m dying, do you think I can get that free lap dance tonight?”
What the heck is wrong with this girl? She’s very unpredictable.
Yuta sighed before sitting beside her, holding her warm cheek. “You are very drunk.” She shook her head, arguing that she was just tipsy. “You won’t die tonight, Y/N.”
“If I go home in this state, I might be.”
Yuta laughed at that. She is a cute drunk. The music is still playing in the background and he guessed that it was just past the last half of the full song. “A little lap dance then I’ll get you a driver.” She nodded, making him smirk. How adorable.
He had to walk back to the sound system, raising the volume. When he turned back to her, her eyes were on him and he felt self-conscious. He had been dancing for countless women before, even going as far as to give them private lap dances. But this was the first time that he got this nervous in front of someone. And she’s drunk for crying out loud.
Yuta started swaying along the music, body rolling against the sensual beat, as he took gentle steps to her. His eyes locked on her expression but got annoyed that she wasn't showing much emotion. Slowly, he removed the denim vest followed by the tank top before kneeling on top of her. The stripper moved his body on her, hands on the headrest of the couch for balance. He’s shirtless, grinding against her, yet she still looks bored. And it frustrated him.
Lap dances have different categories in Yuta’s book: the non-physical and the physical ones. He doesn’t need to explain it further. If you pay more, you’ll get the physical service. And although he knew this girl could pay, he offered this lap dance for free. Typical Yuta would keep on reminding in his head that it should be non-physical but the Yuta tonight, held her hand and placed it on his chest. He let her fingers trail south, warm skin against his. He had never liked someone’s touch like tonight. Her fingers were soft, her palm warm as she explored the muscles of his abdomen.
It feels oddly sexy. Erotic, perhaps.
His finger was on her chin, raising her head to face him. She’s very pretty with those glistening eyes, flushed cheeks, and plump red lips. Lips that looked so soft. He leaned closer, her breath warm and ticklish against his lips. Then the music came to a sudden stop.
Yuta blinked in surprise before taking every self-control to get himself away from the girl. “I’ll call you a driver.” He walked briskly out of the room and into the bar where he asked for a glass of cold water. What the heck is wrong with him? Is he seriously trying to kiss her? He might be crazy. The bartender asked if he was alright and he just nodded, asking if he could call for a substitute driver. If he was a little embarrassed earlier, he’s more embarrassed now. He just wanted to be swallowed to the ground. Is this the result of having a beautiful client? Is it the result of his horniness these past nights? This is dangerous.
“Hey,” he turned to the owner of the voice and there was Y/N, standing while tightly holding her handbag. “Thank you for tonight, Yuta.” She shouldn’t be thanking him. He almost did something sinful to her. There was a smile on her face, different from the expressionless face she had earlier. He felt betrayed that instant. Maybe she didn’t like his performance. “I left something for you back in the room.”
The guy’s eyes squinted in confusion before standing from his chair to jog to the room. He offered the service for free so why is she paying him all of a sudden? And what is this obscene amount of money? This is way more than what Johnny or Taeyong gets from sleeping with their clients. He immediately returned outside with the empty whiskey bottle and glasses. “She’s rich, isn’t she?” Taeil, the bartender, asked. “She paid for ten bottles of whiskey but when I returned the payment to her, she claimed that I could keep it as a tip.” Why is she throwing money like this? “Just a week and you’ll probably be out of this club, Yuta.”
His feet started walking to go outside the club. Taeil was right. If there is any way to help him get out of this club - to get out of this stripper business - it surely is this girl. But he cannot do that to her. She seemed to hate guys who only wanted her for money, guys who used her for their own comfort.
He doesn’t want to be that kind of a guy. He cannot use her like this.
Luckily, the car is still there. Yuta lightly knocked on the window of the driver’s seat and even Y/N looked surprised when the assigned driver asked Yuta what he wanted. The guy just pointed at her window and the driver immediately clicked on a button that pushed the tinted window of the backseat down. Yuta handed the thick cash back, “I gave you that service for free.” She was about to answer when he continued, “And this is too much for a tip, Y/N.”
The girl only gave him a timid smile. “It’s fine, Yuta. Just keep it, you actually deserve more.” But the guy only laughed at how absurd that was. Is she even hearing herself? Or is she so out of touch with reality that she doesn’t know how huge this money is? “With your smile and handsome face, you should charge a million.”
Fuck! Yuta thought. She’s fucking good at this game. And it’s pulling him in. He’s fucking interested.
He wants her.
So bad.
“Then Y/N,” Yuta started in a low voice, leaning close that his arms were on the window of the car. “Sleep with me tonight.”

Odysseus not sleeping for 9 days increased suspicion to his men unconsciously (a small analysis based on sleep deprivation and Odyssey)
So it seems that the limits that we know so far is around 264 hours or just above 11 days of staying awake consequently. That is surprisingly just above what Odysseus did who stayed awake for 9 days or approximately 216 hours! That seems ironically accurate on Homer's part that it occured.
According to Homer's Odyssey, Odysseus remained awake for 9 consequent days, guarding the sack containing all the winds blowing over the Mediterannean (a gift of the god of winds, Aiolus). Overcome by fatigue, once the island of Ithaca came on sight Odysseus fell asleep but at that moment his men, thinking that the sack contains rich gifts, they opened it up, releasing all the winds out and pushing Odysseus back to the islands of Aiolus. Aiolus witnessing upon that sign of bad luck, he refused to help Odysseus again.
Now of course one might say why on earth wouldn't his men trust him when he told them not to open the sack and why were they so overcome by not just distrust but also greed? Well, apart from the symbolism of the Iliad, ironically their distrust was perfectly logical even if in a way misplaced. And here's why
Odysseus was guarding the sack
No matter what one says, Odysseus was still acting distrustful to THEM. In a way he felt like his warning was not enough and he needed to take some extra precaution. The fact that he was still feeling the need to guard the sack like a guard dog, because of his natural suspicious nature, made his men feel not trusted and therefore evn more suspicious of his behavior. Why all of the sudden their captain had his guard so high up? Why did he feel like he had to take extra precaution? Didn't their captain; the captain they spent almost 15 years together trust them anymore? What did he have to hide? This behavior drove them suspicious back thinking there was more to that story than what Odysseus was saying.
Behavioral changes due to sleep deprivation
Odysseus was sleep deprived, that much everyone could tell. However interestingly the signs of sleep deprivation might unsconsciously increased suspiciousness to the already tensed atmosphere. Some of the early signs of sleep deprivation are:
drowsiness
irritability
impaired decision-making
impaired judgement
altered perception
memory deficits
vision and hearing impairments
decreased hand-eye coordination
increased muscle tension
tremors
increased risk of accidents or near misses
Therefore already from the first two or three days without sleep, Odysseus's character began to swift due to fatigue. He was expected to become more irritable, more drowsy, having difficulty to concentrate and having tension to his muscles. He would become increasingly more and more aggressive in his reactions. The longer he stayed without sleep and one could expect
mtabolism disruptions
hallucinations
delusions
mood swings
risky behavior
decreased attention
inflexible reasoning
The more Odysseus remained without sleep, the more unpredictable he would become and the more suspicious and aggressive his behavior would be. Imagine if at some point some of his men would want to give him some food or drink and Odysseus violently pushing them away, yelling at them that he needs nothing but to be left alone. He would become more and more irritable by basic things even if those things had the kinder intentions.
He would seem more and more like a tiger in a cage, more and more paranoic about the precious sack he guarded; seemingly getting all the more anxious the closer they got to his beloved home. At some point if he actually got hallucinations (talking to things that aren't there or looking around like a madman) would also make his men suspicious on his capability to lead them if an emergency were to occur.
Conslusion:
Therefore in his zeal to protect the sack at all costs, in his fixation upon doing everything himself, in his obsession with getting anxious and not trusting his own shadow, Odysseus made the bad decision to remain awake for so long that affected his mental and behavioral health, thus leading to more suspicion on his men's part to doubt his words and believing he was lying and that he was hiding gold and gems instead of their salvation. In a way Odysseus's obsession, just like all his plans, turned boomerang against him. Sleep deprivation made him aggressive. His aggressiveness was perceived as suspicious and his men didn't believe in him.
Still stupid on their part but one can understand their thoughts a bit. Having a captain that is slowly breaking guarding a seemingly precious sack rose plenty of suspicion. Of course that mistake costed them not only their home but also their life, but one can probably understand them a little.

I'm rereading Kyoshi novels and a question is swirling around inside my head. I've seen some people say that Rangi is a " duplicate " of Azula. However, I can't really figure out where it comes from. When I read the novels, I never made the connection between Rangi and Azula. I personally don't see any similarities between the two characters, but when I saw some people making that point, I became unsure. Am I wrong? Did I miss something that caused me to misunderstand Rangi's character? I'd love to see your analysis.
I mean, I don’t think “duplicate” is a fair term to use here, though I get the idea. I have said in the past that rangi is like “if azula had a better relationship with her mother.” even just superficially, they share a lot of aesthetic similarities: they are both intimidating and powerful fire nation teenage girls. most people agree that reading azula makes the most sense (even if some of their reasoning is simply “she’s mean,” which… isn’t great); rangi canonically is a lesbian. azula’s relationship to/absence from her mother is a gaping wound that haunts her, whereas rangi is also her mother’s daughter, but as informed largely by her presence. rangi is someone who shows endless loyalty and dedication to those she loves, insisting to kyoshi that her devotion her stems not from how powerful she may be (as the avatar), but out of love for who she is as a person. azula is someone who is equally defined by her loyalty and devotion, but that fealty can never be defined on her own terms, because the power is the point, ozai’s coercion is their very bond itself. so it’s not so much that rangi is a duplicate of azula, but rather that she functions in many ways as a response to azula, offering her a potential path forward (through, chronologically at least, setting a precedent, no less). where azula is denied agency, held captive by ozai, beholden to his whims and gluttony, rangi is given the choice to follow kyoshi, and does so out of unconditional love. where azula’s desires are negated and used against her, rangi is given the possibility to move forward with kyoshi on her terms. where azula is a maelstrom of grief and conflicting emotion (turned inward) over her love for and the loss of her mother, rangi’s mother is afforded the privilege of surviving every time, and only ever affirms her love for and dedication to her daughter. rangi is who azula could have been had the world been kinder to her. she’s not perfect, and she’s endured her fair share of suffering, but at least she’s free.

Chapter 4 (5k) under the cut
The day of the wedding arrives with an almost surreal sense of calm. The venue, a charming garden nestled behind a quaint bed and breakfast just out of town, is adorned with delicate fairy lights and fresh flowers. Eddie stands in front of a mirror in a small, cozy room, adjusting his tie for the tenth time. He takes a deep breath, trying to steady the nervous energy buzzing through him.
Chrissy, his best person, just like Robin is Steve’s, stands beside him, offering a reassuring smile. "You look great, Teddy. Steve’s going to swoon when he sees you.”
He looks at his best friend in the mirror and gives her a small smile. "You know it's not like that, Chris."
She hums. "You keep saying that, but I don't know. Yeah, you're getting married so he gets his inheritance, I get it. But that's not what the way he looks at you says, honey."
"Chris -"
"I'm just saying. He was flirting with you when you two first met, so he must think you're hot."
"Yeah, and I blew it," Eddie reminds her, his voice forlorn. He's still kicking himself over how stupid he was, how prejudiced he was, not realizing that this great guy was hitting on him and blowing his chance by being a jerk to him.
By the time he finally realized that Steve was actually a good guy, he had already backed off and stopped all his earlier attempts to get to know Eddie. Eddie had gotten the message loud and clear. He was too late, and Steve had already moved on.
A knock on the door interrupts their conversation. Eddie is glad, especially when he sees who’s standing in the doorway.
"Wayne!" he exclaims, jumping into the older man's arms. "You made it."
The man’s laughter rumbles against Eddie’s chest. "I told you I would be here, son. It's not every day your nephew gets married, is it?"
Eddie sinks deeper into the warm embrace, inhaling the smell of Old Spice, cigarette smoke, and the laundry detergent his uncle has been using for as long as Eddie can remember. It smells like home.
Eddie reluctantly pulls away from Wayne’s embrace, his heart feeling lighter. “I’m really glad you’re here, Wayne. It means a lot to me.”
Wayne pats Eddie’s shoulder affectionately. “Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Now, where’s this Steve fella I’ve been hearing so much about?”
Eddie’s stomach tightens at the mention of Steve. “He’s probably getting ready~~.~~ Let me introduce you.”
They make their way through the cozy hallways and out into the garden. The atmosphere is cheerful, filled with laughter and the scent of blooming flowers. They turn left to Steve's dressing room and when they knock, Robin answers with a busy expression, a tie pin between her teeth. Eddie spots Steve in front of the mirror, nervously adjusting his tie.
“Steve!” Eddie calls out, his voice steady but with a hint of excitement. He's unexpectedly nervous about introducing Steve to his uncle. Wayne is his only family, the man who raised him like Eddie was his own son, and his opinion means a whole lot to Eddie. He's always wanted Wayne to be proud of him, and he can't help but hope that he'll approve of Steve.
Steve turns, his eyes lighting up when he sees Eddie. He walks over, his smile widening as he notices Wayne but Eddie can tell by the crinkling of his brows and the tense line of his shoulders that Steve’s just as nervous as Eddie is. “Hey, Eddie. This must be your uncle.”
Wayne steps forward, extending a hand. “Nice to finally meet you, Steve. I’ve heard a lot about you.”
That makes Steve pause, even as he reaches for the offered hand. "You did?" he asks, sounding way too surprised and incredulous, and Eddie winces.
Well, yeah, Wayne may have had a front-row seat as he went from being angry about how unfairly hot the jock who invaded their apartment is to being distraught when he realized that said jock is actually really dreamy and sweet and that Eddie is such a fucking idiot for blowing his chance with him.
Not that Steve needs to know any of this. Eddie had told Wayne an only slightly altered version of Steve's cover story, so he hopes Wayne won't bring up Eddie's pathetic pining and mooning.
Steve catches himself, and as he shakes Wayne's hand firmly, his expression becomes warm and welcoming. "I wanted to say: Nice to meet you too, Mr. Munson. Eddie's told me a lot about you, too."
Wayne just chuckles at Steve's fumble. “Please, call me Wayne, you’re part of the family now,” he insists, his eyes twinkling with genuine interest. “So, you’re the one who’s been making my nephew all starry-eyed, huh?”
Eddie feels his cheeks heat up, and he tries to brush it off with a laugh. “Wayne!”
Steve chuckles, a slight blush coloring his own cheeks. “I guess so. Eddie’s been pretty special to me too.”
Wayne’s smile widens, and he looks between the two men with approval. “Well, it’s good to see you two together. Eddie deserves someone who appreciates him.”
Steve’s eyes soften as he glances at Eddie. “I appreciate him more than he knows.”
Eddie’s heart skips a beat at Steve’s words, and for a moment, he almost forgets about the ruse. The sincerity in Steve’s eyes makes him wonder, just for a moment, if maybe he isn’t the only one harboring some very real feelings.
Wayne claps Steve on the back, breaking the moment. “I’m looking forward to seeing you two tie the knot. If you ever hurt him, though, you’ll have to answer to me and my shotgun.”
Steve nods solemnly. “I understand. You have my word, Wayne.”
Wayne gives a satisfied nod before turning to Eddie. “Alright, I’ll let you two finish getting ready. Just wanted to say hi before the ceremony.”
Eddie watches as Wayne heads off to mingle with the other guests, feeling a mixture of relief and anxiety. He turns to Steve, who’s still watching him with that same warm expression.
“You okay?” Steve asks softly.
"Yeah, just nervous," Eddie admits, running a hand through his hair. "This all feels so... real, it's fucking with my head a little bit, I guess. It's weird that our friends and family are all celebrating this special day with so much, I dunno, enthusiasm. They're all so happy for us, Steve."
Steve steps closer and puts a reassuring hand on Eddie's shoulder. "I know. And I feel bad about lying to them, too. I wish we didn't have to, but..." he trails off, and Eddie knows he means to say that he doesn't want to get any more people involved in what is really a scam. But Eddie can't help wishing they didn't have to lie because it's real.
"I get it, Stevie. And I'm fine. All in, right?"
Steve takes his hands and squeezes them. "All in."
The ceremony itself is a quick affair. The officiator is an elderly woman, who speaks in a warm and calm voice about marriage and promises, about sickness and health, about sacrifices and the blessing of a life full of love and joy and laughter. Eddie can hear a few sniffles from their friends and family, but he only has eyes for Steve. Steve, who looks so handsome in his black suit and fitting bowtie, his hair tussled artfully and his hazel eyes shining with emotion. It’s not real, a voice inside his head reminds him, but just for this moment he quiets it and enjoys the feeling of having the man he’s actually in love with look at him like that.
When it’s time for the vows, Eddie’s voice trembles slightly, but his words are steady and heartfelt. He talks about how much Steve has been surprising him again and again, showing him so many unexpected sides of himself. When Eddie had thought Steve to be just another rich asshole jock he’s proven to Eddie how he’s caring and brave, opening his heart to Eddie when all his previous experiences taught him not to.
“And I can’t wait for you to keep me on my toes for the rest of our lives,” Eddie ends. He means it. If he has any say in it, he’ll happily have Steve prove him wrong for as long as he lives.
Steve blinks back tears as he takes Eddie’s hands. His vows sound just as heartfelt, just as real and tomorrow, Eddie will probably overthink what it all means. But today, he lets his heart enjoy them.
After their vows they exchange rings, and the officiant pronounces them married. As they kiss, the garden erupts in applause and cheers and Eddie can hear Dustin whoop and Jeff whistle loudly. He feels a wave of happiness and relief wash over him and sees the same sentiment reflected on Steve’s face.
He nudges him, the grin loud in his voice. “That wasn’t so bad, wasn’t it?”
Steve shrugs, aiming for nonchalant and failing miserably because of the answering grin splitting his face.
“You think your grandma would’ve liked it?” Eddie asks and Steve laughs out loud.
“Oh she would have hated every second of it.”
“Good. That’s good.”
“Yeah, it is.” Suddenly, Steve’s much closer than he had been seconds ago, their noses almost touching. “Thank you, Eddie. For everything.” And then Steve kisses his cheek, his soft lips gracing the arch of his cheekbone in a way that feels more intimate than the quick kiss they exchanged when the officiant told them to.
The reception is a blur of laughter, dancing, and heartfelt toasts. Robin and Chrissy’s are both hilarious, while Wayne chokes up a bit when he asks Steve to take good care of the only son Wayne’s ever had. Steve takes Eddie’s hand and squeezes it while looking at Wayne and promising him to always look out for Eddie and care for him.
Even Captain Hopper says a few words, and Eddie can tell how much that means to Steve.
The night ends when Eddie falls asleep with his head on Steve’s shoulder, slightly drooling on his husband's lapel. Steve half-drags, half-carries him to their room and helps him undress to his underwear before Eddie crawls under the sheets. When Steve offers to sleep on the ground, Eddie is too tired to argue. Instead, he just pulls back the blanket on the other side of the bed and makes grabby hands at him.
Steve chuckles softly and slides into bed next to Eddie. The last thing Eddie feels is Steve’s breath against his nape as he tells him goodnight. He falls asleep with a smile on his face.
The next morning, they enjoy breakfast with their closest friends and family. The air is filled with laughter and the clinking of dishes as everyone shares stories from the previous night. Wayne presents them with their wedding gift - a two-week stay at a cabin situated by one of the Great Lakes in the area. It's the same place where Wayne used to take Eddie for fishing trips when he was a boy.
“The cabin,” Wayne tells Steve, “has always been a special place for Eddie and me. I thought you two could use some peace and quiet after all this excitement.”
Eddie’s eyes glisten as he accepts the gift. “Thanks, Wayne. That means a lot.”
Steve places a hand on Eddie’s shoulder, his own smile warm and genuine. “It sounds perfect. Thank you, Wayne.”
As breakfast winds down, Eddie and Steve find themselves surrounded by well-wishers. They say goodbye to everyone, exchanging hugs and promises of phone calls and visits.
Wayne pats Eddie on the back. "Take care of each other up there. And don't forget to fish.” He adds with a deadpan look.
Eddie groans in embarrassment. "Oh my God."
When everyone but them and Robin and Chrissy have left, Eddie feels a mixture of excitement and nervousness. They're supposed to go back to Steve's apartment, while Chrissy and Robin will go back to Chrissy's apartment. He moved in with Steve the week before, and they both helped Robin move in with Chrissy. He was glad that the wedding had taken up a lot of their time and energy, enough to distract Steve from missing his other half too much.
That will change now, but at least they have two full weeks at the cabin for Steve to get used to having Eddie around a lot more.
Tumblr media
The drive to the cabin two days later is filled with lighthearted banter about music and comfortable silences as Steve and Eddie enjoy the scenic views on their way to their destination. It feels easy between them, and Eddie curses himself once again that he could have had this for years. Like Elizabeth Bennet, his own pride and prejudice got in the way.
When they finally arrive, they're greeted by the sight of a quaint cabin nestled on the shore of one of the Great Lakes, its surroundings offering a sense of peace and seclusion. There are no other cabins in sight, and Eddie knows from all the times he's been here with Wayne that the nearest neighbors are about 15 to 20 minutes away on foot, and the nearest store is in a small village about 20 minutes away by car.
"Your uncle was right, it's perfect here after all the stress and excitement of the last few weeks," Steve says as they gather their belongings from the car and approach the cabin. The lake is right in front of them, the sun reflecting off it in a way that Eddie has come to associate with endless summers spent here fishing with his uncle.
"Yeah, don't tell him I said that, but Wayne's usually right about things."
Steve mimics zipping his lips, earning a laugh from Eddie.
As they step inside, they take a tour of the small cabin. There's a decently sized open kitchen and a living room with a small couch and a dining table. No TV, which won’t be a problem because Eddie brought his laptop. The bathroom is equally small but has a rather big walk-in shower, something Eddie can’t help but imagine testing out with Steve. Him on his knees in front of Steve, while droplets of water rain down on them, catching in the thick patch of chest hair and running down towards…
“Eddie,” Steve calls, ripping him from his fantasy.
“What’s the matter?” he calls back, quickly hurrying out of the bathroom and towards the only room they haven’t checked out yet—the bedroom.
Which he quickly remembers has only one bed. Eddie had slept on the couch when he had been still small enough to do so and later on an air mattress they brought along.
Steve glances at him with wide eyes and then back at the small couch in the living room, immediately offering to take it. Eddie shakes his head.
"It's fine, Steve. We've shared a bed before," Eddie tells him with a reassuring smile. His cheeks heat with the memory of Steve’s warm breath against his nape before he fell asleep on their wedding night. When he had woken up the next morning, Steve had already been gone from the bed, something he mourned for the five minutes or so it took Steve to step into their room with only a towel slung around his hips. The sight had been the best consolation prize he could’ve asked for.
Steve looks at him, relieved. "If you say so. Just don't hog all the blankets."
Eddie grins. "No promises."
They unpack their bags and settle in, the cozy cabin quickly feeling like home. The first few days fall into a blissful routine—swimming in the lake, taking long walks along the shoreline, cooking meals together, and watching "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" on Eddie's laptop.
On their second afternoon, while preparing lunch, Eddie tries to impress Steve with his nonexistent proficiency in making pancakes. This earns him the heavenly sound of Steve’s laughter as his sad attempts to flip a pancake end with batter splattered everywhere.
"You're supposed to flip it, not fling it," Steve teases, wiping batter off Eddie’s cheek. Eddie's cheeks heat under his gentle touch.
Eddie chuckles, shaking his head. "Hey, I'm trying. Cooking was never my strong suit."
Steve smiles, handing him another spatula. "Well, lucky for you, I'm a great teacher."
And he is, even if the way he presses himself up against Eddie's back, the way his big hand rests on Eddie's wrist as he holds the pan, is unfairly distracting. Eddie messes up a few more times, mostly because he gets caught up in the way Steve feels, smells, and sounds every time he gives Eddie instructions in a soft yet firm voice.
When Eddie finally gets it right, Steve's praise sears itself into his brain, altering his brain chemistry irrevocably.
“See? You’ve got it!” Steve exclaims, his voice filled with genuine pride.
Eddie grins, feeling a warmth that has nothing to do with the stove. "All thanks to my amazing teacher."
Steve laughs, leaning in close. "I knew you had it in you."
Eddie can’t help but flirt back. "Guess you'll have to keep teaching me things, then."
Steve’s eyes sparkle with mischief. "Oh, I plan to."
They fall into an easy rhythm, working together in the kitchen, their movements synchronized as if they've been doing this for years. The cabin becomes their little sanctuary, where the outside world seems to fade away. It's easy to forget that this is all just part of their ruse because nothing about the way they act around each other feels fake.
One evening a few days later, they walk along the lake, the setting sun casting a golden glow over the water. Steve skips stones across the surface, watching the ripples spread outward, and Eddie is once again reminded of Steve's past as a high school jock. However, the thought doesn't bring up the old resentment. Instead, he feels a little jealous and a lot turned on by the competent way Steve masters things like flipping pancakes or skipping stones.
"You know," Steve says, breaking the comfortable silence, "this place is really special. I'm glad Wayne thought of it."
Eddie nods, admiring the way Steve's eyes reflect the fading light. "Yeah, it brings back a lot of good memories. When I first came to live with Wayne, I was angry all the time. At everyone. Mostly at myself, I guess. It probably wasn't easy for Wayne, the way I shut him out and acted like it was such a burden to live with him. He brought me here about a year after I moved in, and at first, I thought it was his way of punishing me for my bad behavior. Turns out, forced proximity helps you get over some stupid hang-ups pretty quickly. We've been here every year since, until I moved out at 20."
Steve listens to the story in silence. When Eddie’s done, he says, “I’m glad you had Wayne growing up.”
"Yeah, me too. The old man's got a big heart and he loves taking in strays. Before you know it, he'll be calling you ‘son’ and forcing you to watch baseball with him every season.”
“That sounds pretty awesome, actually.”
Eddie laughs. "It is. Though I have to warn you, he's a die-hard Cubs fan. There’s no escape from it."
Steve chuckles, tossing another stone. "Well, I’m a White Sox fan, so I’m sure we’ll have plenty to argue about."
Eddie raises an eyebrow. "Oh, a White Sox fan? This is going to be interesting."
Steve grins. "Trust me, I can hold my own in a baseball debate."
Eddie smiles, feeling a warmth in his chest that has nothing to do with the setting sun. "You're a good guy, Steve."
Steve looks at him, eyes softening. "So are you, Eddie."
They share a quiet smile before continuing their walk, the air filled with the sounds of nature and the occasional splash of a fish jumping.
Eddie cannot remember the last time he felt so at peace with himself and the world.
Later that night, they find themselves sitting side by side on the bed, sharing a bowl of popcorn as they immerse themselves in yet another episode of Buffy. By now it has become part of their routine, all their days ending the same way. The first night, they had kept their distance, but the small screen and the growing familiarity between them soon made them sit closer and closer.
Now their backs rest comfortably against the headboard, their shoulders occasionally brush against each other, and their legs rest comfortably together under the blanket.
"I gotta say, Angel was always meant to be with Buffy," Steve suddenly supplies, apropos of nothing.
Eddie scoffs and turns to look at him in disbelief. "Oh, come on! Are you still stuck in the 90s? Spike was the one for her, no doubt about it."
They both reach for the popcorn bowl, their eyes never leaving the screen as Buffy and Angel dance together at Buffy's prom.
"But, Eddie," Steve insists, "Angel had depth. He understood Buffy's inner turmoil like no one else."
Eddie shakes his head, a smirk on his lips. "Depth? Please. Angel was brooding half the time, and when he wasn't, he was busy being melodramatic about his curse. Spike, on the other hand, embraced his vampiric nature and challenged Buffy in a way that Angel never did."
As the scene ends, Steve gestures to the screen. "But Angel had this epic love story with Buffy! They were soulmates, destined to be together."
"Soulmates, shmoulmates," Eddie retorts, leaning closer to the laptop. "Buffy needed someone who could stand toe-to-toe with her, someone who wasn't afraid to call her out on her nonsense. Spike did that and more."
Steve reaches for the beers on the floor next to him and hands a fresh one to Eddie, who gives him a grateful nudge with his shoulder before taking a sip.
"Yeah, but Angel was her first love. You can't deny the significance of that," Steve argues, taking a sip of his own beer.
The argument makes Eddie smile involuntarily because it's such a Steve thing to say. He's a romantic at heart, one who doesn't do a very good job of hiding it.
Eddie nods in agreement because he can see Steve's point, but then he remembers Steve's story about the first girl he loved and how the breakup left him pretty messed up. "First love doesn't always mean forever love, Steve. Buffy grew, she changed, and so did what she needed in a partner. Spike wasn't always what she wanted, but he was what she needed and I think deep down she knew that and it scared the hell outta her."
Steve looks at him with an unreadable expression and says, "Maybe you're right. I guess love is pretty scary."
Feeling like they're no longer talking about Buffy Summers, Eddie clears his throat awkwardly. "Yeah, it is," he agrees, reaching into the popcorn bowl just to have something to do.
Steve seems to have the same idea, because suddenly their fingers brush against each other as they reach for the same handful of popcorn.
The moment their fingers touch, it ignites a spark, an electric charge that leaves them frozen in the moment, their eyes meeting in the dim light cast by the laptop screen. The world seems to pause, time standing still as Eddie recalls the story Steve had told everyone. It had sounded like such a funny cover story to explain their sudden and unexpected marriage, but now Eddie doesn’t feel like laughing.
His heart hammers against his ribcage as he leans in closer, his gaze instinctively drawn to Steve's lips.
"Steve," he whispers, his voice a soft undertone barely audible against the background noise of the laptop.
"Yeah?" Steve's voice matches Eddie's in volume, his breath a warm whisper against Eddie's skin.
His heart still pounding, Eddie swallows, nerves and anticipation causing his voice to tremble. He knows what he wants this moment to mean, but once he acknowledges it, there's no going back.
Steve's courage must be rubbing off on him because he still asks the question that's been on his mind since their conversation in his apartment. "Do you... do you ever wonder what it would be like if this was real?"
Steve's eyes search Eddie's face, his own a complex mix of hope and uncertainty. Eddie feels like he's seconds away from a heart attack as he waits for Steve's answer. When it comes, Steve's voice is barely audible; Eddie reads it as much from his lips as he hears it.
"Every day."
Hearing Steve's answer, Eddie's breath hitches and he feels a tidal wave of emotions he can no longer suppress. "Me too."
Later, Eddie couldn't tell who leaned in first, and honestly, it doesn't matter because in that moment, it's clear they both want it. As soon as their lips meet, it feels like the universe has aligned and everything falls into place. The way Steve's lips feel against his is nothing short of divine, so maybe Eddie needs to rethink his stance on soul mates and destiny.
While the first press of lips is soft, even tentative, the kiss quickly deepens as they pour years of unspoken feelings into it.
When they finally pull away for air, they are both breathless. Eddie laughs softly, the sound a mixture of disbelief and pure joy.
"Just like your story, huh?" he whispers, the corners of his mouth lifting in a smile.
Steve grins in return, his thumb gently tracing Eddie's cheek in an intimate gesture. "Yeah. Only this time it's real."
"It better be," Eddie says before leaning in to capture Steve's lips once more. They share another kiss, and then another, until the bowl of popcorn between them is forgotten and the laptop screen goes dark.
The next morning, they wake up tangled together under the sheets. Eddie’s head rests on Steve’s broad chest, their legs entwined and Eddie hugging Steve’s torso like a pillow. Steve’s left arm is wrapped around his waist while his right hand cards through Eddie’s hair, indicating he's awake.
Last night was real, is his first coherent thought.
When Eddie lifts his head, he feels Steve’s breath hitch and his arm around his waist tighten. The hand in his hair stops its gentle ministrations, and Eddie makes an involuntary noise of protest.
Steve laughs softly at him and continues. “Morning, sleepyhead.”
“What time is it?” Eddie half asks, half yawns.
“Almost noon. I was waiting for you to wake up because you were using me as your own personal teddy bear and I didn’t wanna wake you.”
Eddie feels his cheeks heat up and hastily tries to untangle himself from Steve, but is stopped by strong arms.
“I wasn’t complaining. In fact, I really like it. You’re cute like that, even when you’re drooling on my shirt.” The soft kiss to his forehead matches the fond tone of Steve’s voice.
Snuggling deeper into Steve’s embrace, he asks, “So yesterday…?”
“...has been something I wanted to do for a long time.”
It’s hard to believe, Steve wanting to kiss him for so long. Maybe for as long as Eddie has wanted to.
“Why didn’t you do it before yesterday then?”
He feels Steve shrug underneath him. “Figured you didn’t want me to. When I tried to flirt with you, get to know you, you made it pretty clear that you weren’t interested. So I stopped. Tried to act like I didn’t think about kissing you every time I saw you.”
This time, Eddie lifts his head to look down at Steve. “I am such a fucking idiot, Steve. You shouldn’t want to kiss me. When we first met I was so sure you were—” he pauses and Steve helpfully adds, “a rich asshole jock.” “Yeah. Took me a while to get over myself and realize you were nothing like that. When I did, it seemed like you already moved on. I was too scared to get rejected, especially because I would’ve deserved it. So I acted like I didn’t think about kissing you every time I saw you.”
Gazing into each other’s eyes, they both burst out laughing.
“God, we’re idiots,” Steve laughs, rubbing his nose against Eddie’s. Then, his eyes suddenly widen. “Max can never find out! I had to promise her that I wouldn’t let this turn into ‘one of those rom-com clichés where everything goes horribly wrong because no one just talked to each other.’”
The sound that leaves Eddie’s mouth is half laugh, half groan. “We shall never speak of this then.”
And just because he can, he steals another kiss from Steve before his face and tone turn sober.
“Only Chrissy and Birdie know about our idiocy. In a way, your story about how we got together is true, just the timeline is a bit different. How about we just come back and live the married life we’re supposed to?”
Wrapping his strong thighs around Eddie’s waist and bringing their groins together, Steve smiles up at him. “I’d love that,” he says, kissing Eddie. Deep and dirty and hungry.
They don’t leave the cabin for the rest of the day.
One afternoon a few days later, lying on a blanket by the lake, Eddie turns to Steve, propped up on one elbow. "What's next on the agenda when we get back home?"
Steve thinks for a moment, then smiles. "Honestly? I don't know. I just want to be with you. We'll figure the rest out as we go."
Eddie feels a warmth spreading through his chest. Still, he has to ask. "Who are you and what have you done to Steve?"
Tracing Eddie's slightly sunburned cheek with his finger, Steve laughs softly. "He just learned that good things can happen when you don't plan for them. Like falling in love and marrying that person before learning that they might even like you back."
"Love you back,' you mean," is all Eddie says. He presses a quick kiss to the soft skin of Steve's stomach before settling back down on the blanket.
As the sun sets, casting a warm glow over the water, they sit in comfortable silence, watching the world change colors.

I have found the strength to draw one (of two) OCs for AFK Journey. So let me record a few details about her here.
Lavinia
Close childhood friend of Valen. Her father was an Imperial Knight stationed there (Stoutstone Isle) but died on duty in her early childhood years. Since then she dreamed of stepping into her father's shoes, bravely (and angrily often) tagging behind Valen to prove she was no less than him, despite being nearly 3 years younger. Sometimes even managed to kick his butt!
Left for the capital at 11 with her mother. She hated the city and missed the island (and her friend), but then found the Heroic Order and saw that girls were allowed - and then didn't think of anything else.
She had agreed with Valen that they'd meet again as knights but he never showed up and so time passed. On occasion she'd discuss with her mother what he might have been up to, not knowing that he's been in Holistone the past few years.
Her design was influenced by the two other Imperial members Guywin and Joey. She isn't meant to have any special rank, but somehow the design looked bland without the touch of gold.
Her story would be experienced as some extended side quest. At that point she's been through stupid stuff and hit rock bottom. She hid in the Ashen Wastes for a few weeks, before Berial senses her despair. He grants her continued life in exchange of being entertained... so now Lavinia is returning to the capital to follow up on her dark thoughts and assassinate the current leader of the Heroic Order.
She would not actually be wearing her uniform, but some rags she got in Mauler territory a few weeks prior. Only after the side quest is over she'd be seen in uniform again.
Valen's got to attend an important meeting of the Solitaries in the capital, and Merlin joins for the opportunity to see more of the Lightbearer Empire (and refresh her memory). They run into Lavinia on the road and travel together for a bit.
"Who the heck gave you permission to grow into such a stud of a man?!" "The same entity that made you grow pretty beautiful curves. You actually look like a girl now!"
Then lots of things happen. xD Friendships rekindled and broken again. Attempted murder in broad daylight and witnesses.
Truths are being shared, faith and trust are lost. Futures put on line. Hypofiends and a Hypogean in the middle of the capital!
Valen nearly throws the towel on the Heroic Order.
Corrupted Lavinia versus Valen (and others)
Berial is causing chaos but escapes from Merlin and the celestials.
The leader of the Heroic Order ends up very dead. Lavinia lives, somewhat against her expectations and wishes.
Hogan saves the situation, at least he tries to.
The Happy End is not missing, though: while leaving behind the capital for good, Lavinia continues to serve under and among better men in Holistone. ;-)
Due to previous events, Lavinia's life is dependent on Berial's grace. She's also got some perks due to that but she'd much rather not have anything to do with a Hypogean. Thankfully, he forgets about her until I need more drama many years down the line. xD
And finally... she wouldn't be a playable character ever, her skills are boring and greatly overshadowed by Valen or even Guywin. I might think about her stats in the future but since that part of the game isn't what sparks my interest, I probably won't. *shrugs*
Thanks for reading. :-) Until next time! <3

Hey @oblivionsdream !
I have 2 questions - bear with me…
As you know, I love your work, but have only just recently started actively engaging with it.
I actually first came across you and your Jester x knight OC’s at least a year or two ago, when a fellow DinLuke shipper tagged it with #dinluke, so it showed up on my feed. If you aren’t into Star Wars and are unfamiliar with it - that’s the romantic pairing between Din Djarin (the Mandalorian) and Luke Skywalker.
For a while, I actually thought that it was a medieval DinLuke au because there are quite a few fanarts exploring that ship in different universes (including ours) and different timelines, etc.
One of the things that lent credence to this idea was the fact that the king looks so much like the Jedi, Quinlan Vos.
The characters do also closely match the personalities that a lot of the fandom have collectively given Din and Luke on tumblr - like Luke actually being a feral mischievous gremlin underneath his serene Jedi facade, and Din actually being the more composed (and often lovingly exasperated) of the two.
It was a surprise when I looked more into it and realised that they are original characters, completely unrelated to DinLuke and Star Wars as a whole.
So I guess I’m just curious what was the inspiration behind the Jingly Menace and his steadfast, taciturn knight? Was it a song or a meme or just watching a medieval show and during a scene with a jester, you had a sudden burst of creative juices like “Eureka! Pretty jester x hot knight!”
Sorry if you’ve already answered this and I’ve just missed it while scrolling through your page.
My other question (this I know has been queried to JM himself but he nervously evaded the question) when JM is shown crying in one of the first pictures you posted of him, what was the actual reason that you had in mind behind it? Was it just simply because his attempts to get the hot mysterious knights attention had thus far been unsuccessful (from his perspective anyway) and he succumbed to a private moment of vulnerability?
Every time I look at it, I’m dying to know!
Anyway, love you! Hope the JM comic is still on the horizon at some point - coz I would buy and read the crap out of it!
Hey there!
I honestly had no idea what DinLuke is though I've seen the tags. My knowledge of Star Wars comes from whatever I have absorbed against my will being online and when my best friend made me watch the prequels a few years ago 😂
So Jester solely came to be because I've loved jesters for many years at this point. I just find them fun but there's never enough content for them out there so I just wanted to make my own oc. I also just love trickster characters- anything fae like or I always adored Loki in Norse mythology so he's very based into those kind of mischievous vibes and humor.
Augustine was purely accidental. I saw some Tumblr post about a knight or maybe it was about a jester and a knight (I no longer remember) so I thought it would be funny to doodle Jester with a random knight being a menace asking him about his big sword. Augustine was never supposed to be a character. But then I just kept coming up with other ideas for Jester and this random knight whose face he never saw and whelp here we are.
Soooo the crying. It was definitely a private moment no one else was supposed to witness. Part of something I find interesting with playing with Jester's character is the idea that sometimes the seemingly happiest and funniest people are also the saddest but they just cover it up with a smile. His backstory before coming to the castle is still something that affects him but also he feels lonely at court. He constantly craves the validation of attention he didnt really get as a kid and is constantly surrounded by people but also he feels very lonely in court. He is in a strange place of being neither noble but also not quite a commoner/servant. Nobility will look down on him and not take him serious because he's just a silly guy but the servants are wary to get too close because of his close relationship with the king and the fact that he technically has a higher status as Court Jester. He is one of Monty's closest confidantes but his own secrets keep him from being fully honest with his king. It's a strange place of feeling alone in the middle of a crowded court where everyone sees his silly jester persona and make up but no one sees beneath it.
I still hope to make a comic! Just trying to find the time to get all my ideas in order. Thanks for liking my silly guys!

While Rick, Shane and Hershel brought Daryl inside for stitches, you returned to your tent to check on Hunter.
“I’m coming in.” You spoke, slowly unzipping the tent.
Hunter appeared to relax as soon as he saw your face. “The monsters?”
“No monsters. It’s safe to come out.”
Hunter nodded, climbing out of the tent as Lori approached.
“I went through some of Carl’s stuff. He’s already grown out of these.” She trailed off.
“Thank you.” You took the clothes from Lori with a smile before turning to Hunter. “Why don’t we go ask Hershel if you can wash up in the house?”
You brought Hunter inside the farmhouse, heading towards an upstairs bedroom where you heard Rick, Shane, Daryl and Hershel talking. When you entered the room, the chatter stopped.
“I’m sorry to interrupt, but do you mind if Hunter washes up?” You asked.
Hershel looked to Rick. “She found him alone out there when she was looking for Sophia.”
Hunter poked his head in the room and Hershel’s momentary annoyance faded away. “Of course.”
Before you left, your eyes landed on Daryl. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I’ve been shot in the head.” He mumbled.
You noticed a bandage around his waist, a wound you’d missed in the chaos earlier. Not wanting to press him for answers he’d likely given Rick already, you smiled and ushered Hunter towards the bathroom.
“I’ll be here waiting for you.” You smiled, handing him the clothes.
Hunter smiled back. “Thank you.”
As you waited for Hunter, Lori made her way inside and sat on the floor across from you. It wasn’t long before Rick and Shane exited the bedroom, closing the door behind them.
Rick looked between you and Lori. “He’ll be alright.”
“I hate to say it, but I’m with Hershel on this one.” Shane spoke. “We can’t keep going out there, not after this.”
Rick stopped, turning to face Shane. “You’d quit now? Daryl just risked his life to bring back the first solid evidence we’ve had.”
“That is one way to look at it.” Shane shrugged. “The way I see it, Daryl almost died today for a doll.”
“Yeah, I know how you see it.” Rick responded, his words dripping with venom. “What about the kid's parents?”
You shrugged, lowering your voice to a whisper. “Honestly, from what he told me, it sounds like they’re gone. I just hoped we’d find them out there and I’d be wrong.”
Rick gave Shane one last glare before kissing Lori and storming off.
“I’m not trying to be a hard case, just being realistic.” Shane spoke up. “He’s gotta start making the tough calls. You two know I’m right.”
“I may not agree with all of his choices, but I respect him.” Lori responded. “Your way isn’t harder. It’s the easiest thing in the world to cut our losses and to not help. You keep telling yourself you’re making the tough calls. You’re really just trying-”
The bathroom door swung open and Hunter stepped out.
“I’m all done.” He smiled.
You smiled back. “Good job, kiddo.”
The two of you left the hallway, the mumbled chatter of Shane and Lori slowly fading out.
Evening had arrived as you’d spent most of the afternoon getting Hunter settled. Maggie was kind enough to offer a pillow and some blankets for him, since you didn’t have an extra sleeping bag.
He hadn’t talked much, still unsure of his new surroundings. When you gave him one of Carl’s comics to borrow, his face had lit up for a moment. He spent a while quietly reading while you helped finish dinner.
You were now all sat in the dining room, multiple tables filling out the room. Most of the meal was quiet, spent in awkward silence. After the events of today, everyone could feel that Hershel was more on edge than usual.
Glenn cleared his throat. “Does anybody know how to play guitar? Dale found a cool one.”
Hershel and Patricia shared uneasy glances.
“Somebody’s got to know how to play.”
“Otis did.” Patricia spoke.
Heshel nodded. “He was very good too.”
Silence fell over the group once more so it didn’t take much for most people to notice the crinkled sound of paper and Glenn and Maggie passed notes back and forth. You couldn’t help but smile watching them.
After dinner, you decided to check in on Daryl. He was still resting in one of the bedrooms.
You softly knocked on the door, not wanting to disturb him if he’d fallen asleep. As you cracked it open, Daryl had turned his head to look at you.
“Feeling any less like you’ve been shot in the head today?” You asked.
Daryl scoffed, rolling back over. “Not really.”
You walked over to the other side of the bed. “What even happened out there?”
“Stupid horse knocked me off a ledge.” Daryl grumbled. “Found Sophia’s doll in the water.”
“Shane wants us to stop looking for her.” You whispered, sitting down on the bed.
Daryl looked up at you, confused. “Why?”
“He doesn’t think it’s worth it anymore. I guess he thinks she’s dead and we’re chasing a ghost.” You shrugged. “After today, what do you think?”
“I think that little girl is still out there.”
You nodded, standing up and finally noticing the food on his nightstand. It was completely untouched and you knew Carol brought it up a while ago.
“Eat something.” You spoke, heading out of the room.
The next morning, Daryl was back in his tent and Carl was mostly recovered. You and Lori had taken him and Hunter to the chicken coop earlier, letting them feed and play with the chicks. Hunter was already much happier with someone his age to play with.
After finding out that Carl had stolen a gun from the RV, Lori had reluctantly agreed to allow Carl to join the others for gun training. You all wanted Carl to remain a child but you also knew he needed to learn how to be safe. Things weren’t going back to normal anytime soon, if ever.
It made you think about Hunter. If you were being entirely honest, you’d never given much thought to having a child. With how demanding your job had been, having to care for another small human was out of the question for you. In this new world, it was even more terrifying. You weren’t his mother but you knew you were responsible for him and his safety now. Hunter was still timid, so you knew teaching him about guns right now wasn’t the best idea. You also knew you’d have to soon and that was hard for you to accept.
The rest of the day had been spent cleaning up around camp, as almost everyone else was off doing their own things elsewhere. You’d quietly checked on Daryl a few times, who had been sleeping off his injuries in his tent. With such a peaceful day, you had not expected the news you’d receive the following morning.
Your group was gathered around eating breakfast, eggs in which Maggie had delivered to you earlier, when Glenn cleared his throat.
“The barn is full of walkers.”
The sound of cutlery dinging against plates stopped abruptly, everyone focusing their gazes on him.
“Excuse me?” You asked, hoping you’d heard him wrong.
Glenn glanced over at the farmhouse porch, Maggie watching him from a distance. “I said the barn is full of walkers.”
Shane stood up in a rush, heading straight for the barn as you all followed close behind. Hunter ran to you, grabbing your hand tight. The barn doors had a small hole between them, Shane peeking inside. Suddenly, the hand of a walker shot out, making him jump backwards.
“You cannot tell me you’re alright with this.” Shane grumbled, walking towards Rick.
“No I’m not, but we are guests here. This isn’t our land.”
“This is our lives, man!”
“Lower your voice.” Glenn spoke nervously.
“We can’t just sweep this under the rug.” Andrea spoke up.
“This isn’t right.” You mumbled. “What happens if they break out? We sleep out here. We don’t have a big fancy house to shield us.”
“Okay, we’ve either got to go in there, we’ve gotta make things right or we’ve just got to go.” Shane said. “We’ve been talking about Fort Benning for a long time-”
“We can’t go.” Rick cut him off.
“Why, Rick? Why?”
“Because my daughter’s still out there.” Carol chimed in.
“Okay.” Shane huffed, covering his mouth for a moment. “I think it’s time that we all start to just consider the other possibility.”
“We’re not leaving Sophia behind.” Rick argued.
“We’re close to finding this girl!” Daryl spoke. “I just found her damn doll two days ago.”
“You found her doll, Daryl.” Shane replied. “That’s what you did. You found a doll.”
Daryl’s face turned red. “You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.”
“Shane, you’ve been eager to stop looking for her for the last few days.” You hissed. “There’s always a new excuse for you to try and cut and run, but you’re really just heartless.”
Everyone glanced at you in shock, and you could see the hurt on Shane’s face for a moment. Then, it turned right back to anger.
“Look, I’m just saying what needs to be said here.” Shane snapped. “If you get a good lead, it’s in the first forty-eight hours.”
“Shane stop!” Rick yelled.
“Let me tell you something else, man.” Shane continued. “If she was alive out there and saw you coming all methed out with your buck knife and your geek ears around your neck, she would run in the other direction.”
Daryl had had enough, launching forward and swinging at Shane. Rick jumped between the men as Shane moved towards Daryl, the two continuing to yell back and forth.
“Back off!” Rick yelled, pushing Shane back.
Shane pointed a finger at Rick. “Keep your hands off me.”
“Let me talk to Hershel.” Rick pleaded. “Let me figure this out.”
“What are you gonna figure out, man?” Shane snarled back.
“If we’re gonna stay, if we’re gonna clear this barn, I have to talk him into it. This is his land.”
“Hershel sees those things in there as people. Sick people, his wife and his stepson.” Dale spoke up.
“You knew about this?” You asked.
Dale nodded. “Yesterday I talked to Hershel.”
“And you waited the night to tell us?” Shane asked.
“I thought we could survive one more night. We did.” Dale replied. “I was waiting ‘till this morning to say something but Glenn wanted to be the one.”
“The man is crazy, Rick, if Hershel thinks those things are alive.”
The barn doors began to rattle because of all of the commotion from your group. Everyone stepped back, preparing for the worst.
“Please, just let me talk to him.” Rick spoke.
“You better convince him fast.” You responded. “I don’t think any of us can sleep easy now knowing there’s a ticking time bomb next to us.”

AN: Here we are with another chapter! I'm sorry this one took so long (again), I got some bad writers block halfway through. I decided to make a portion of this one filling in the gaps before we got to the big part leading into the plot for next chapter. I hope you all are continuing to enjoy this series as much as I am! Please remember to like and/or reblog and share your thoughts <3

Tumblr media
I think that he really likes motorcycles. Not in the mechanical way but in the speed way. He really likes to feel the air hitting hisface when he goes at full speed on a stolen motorcycle.
He's a bit sad that he can't go on rides with you. However, he always manages to tag along with you thanks to a random and weird idea. There was a time that he tied a bycicle to your motorcycle and told you to go at full speed. That didn't finished well of course.
He sometimes tries to outrun you while you are driving. Just imagine that you are driving around the highway and suddenly you see a man running at full speed to you. It's scary.
You two had finally decided to go on a date around the town. He proposed to drive the old ass van that the team used for missions. You declined the offer and told your boyfriend that Engie had finished fixing your motorcylce. He jumped a bit surprised, you had a motorcycle and you didn't tell him?
You guided him to the garage. The moment you opened the door he gasped comically loud and skipped towards your motorcycle. "This is so cool!" He exclaimed happily while walking around the vehicle. "How come you didn't tell me you owned a motorbike?" He said, you smiled at his excitement. "Not everyine likes it... My family used to tell me that it was dangerous, because you don't have much protection." You explained, he exclaimed an exagerated 'what?' with his hands on his head. "Don't listen to them! Motorbikes give a lot of adrenaline!"
Without your permission, he sat on the motorbike and took the steering wheel. You sat behind him and wrapped your hands around his torso. You smiled as you rested your head on his back. You had finally found someone who appreaciated your hobbies.
Tumblr media
She loves when you go to pick her up from work. You are like her personal taxi driver, motorcycle driver in this case. Yes she just killed 7 agents that the team forgot to kill, BUT your beatiful and lovely girlfriend is tired and needs a ride home. So you better go and pick her up >:(
Everytmie you fix her bike she kisses your cheek. Then, in her next mission she purposely breaks it so you can pick her up. You've given up on fixing her bike at this point.
She really likes to see how you take off your helmet. She thinks it's sexy.
You were arriving to the point that Pauling told you to pick her up. As you were reaching the abandoned gasoline station you saw antoher person apart from your girlfriend. You sighed, it was Scout again. You stopped right in front of you partner trying to ignore the insisting voice of the mercenary. "The boys left without him again." You girlfriend explained as she took the spare helmet you were offering her. "You're not gonna leave me here, are you, Y/N?" Scout asked, his lip a bit curled in an attempt to pout. "You run really fast right?" You ignored his question, he nodded proudly and before he started speaking you interrumpted him. "Then, I'm sure you can keep up with us." With that said, you revved up the bike and rode Miss Pauling to her home.

Book recs: Queer horror, part 1
We all like a good horror story, right? You know what's even better? A queer horror story!
A note: queer here does not necessarily mean “guarantee of an f/f or m/m ship with a happy ending”, but rather simply a significant presence of queerness. Some of the books feature no romance but has a same gender attracted/trans/ace spectrum lead, or features an m/f relationship with bisexual, trans or aro/ace characters, or simply features a world-building which is heavily queer inclusive in ways that don’t always compare to our own ideas of sexuality and gender. I have however disqualified works where the only queer presence is along the lines of “gay best friend” or a blink and you’ll miss it confirmation that never comes up again.
For more details on the books, continue under the readmore. Titles marked with * are my personal favorites. And as always, feel free to share your own recs in the notes!
If you want more book recs, check out my masterpost of rec lists!

Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle*
Rose, like her parents, believes strongly that homosexuality is a sin, and holds great pride that her home town hosts Camp Damascus, a successful conversion camp for young teens. But Rose is also experiencing strange and terrifying things: memories of a beautiful girl, a demonic figure that shows up if her thoughts stray, flies crawling out her mouth. Something has happened in Rose's past that her parents won't speak of and that she herself can't remember, and Camp Damascus is at the center of it all. Sapphic, autistic main character, as well as a really cool take on demonic lore that is both inspired by and a subversion of christianity.
House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland*
Young adult. Something happened to Iris Hollow and her two older sisters when they were little; after having gone missing, they were all returned with no memory of what happened and identical scars on their throats. Years have passed since then, and though seen as strange the girls still lead mostly normal lives - that is, until the oldest, Grey, goes missing, leaving strange clues in her path. As Iris searches for her, a strange man with horns starts stalking her and memories start to rise to the forefront in her mind. To save Grey, Iris will have to find out the truth of what happened all those years ago. Features wonderfully morally grey characters. Bisexual lead, but little to no romance.
Winter Tide (The Innsmouth Legacy) by Ruthanna Emrys*
Aphra and her brother are the only survivors after the government raided their home, Innsmouth. Their only living family are the amphibian people of the deep, whom they will one day join, but until then they are bound to land where they struggle to build new lives for themselves after the great loss of their home and loved ones. Then rumors start to spread of a russian agent seeking dangerous and ancient magic, forcing Aphra to involve herself as they try to stop it. Does contain horror elements but is generally a much more optimistic look on cosmic horror than most lovecraftian stories, told from the perspective of one of his monsters. Lots of focus on found family and rebuilding of community. Asexual main character (however I don’t think that becomes in-text confirmed until the sequel) and multiple queer characters in the supporting cast.

Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall
Young adult. One year ago, Sara's sister went missing. Since then, Sara has drifted away from her friends, but when she receives a mysterious text inviting her to "play the game" - the same game that supposedly stole her sister away - Sara and her estranged friends all come back together to find her. Together they set off on a path that legend says appears only once a year, leading them toward the ghost Lucy Gallows and, hopefully, Sara's sister. Bisexual main character, told in a faux documentary style.
Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon
A young pregnant woman flees a cult that left her body strange and changing in terrifying ways. Hiding from both a world wanting to oppress her and the cult seeking to force her back, she does her best to raise her children while trying to find out the truth of the cult and being pursued by a hunter in a dangerous game of cat and mouse. Bleak and scary, Sorrowland is a book that will creep under your skin with horrors both fantastical and very, very real.
Otherside Picnic (Otherside Picninc lightnovel series) by Iori Miyazawa
Sapphic light novel with a surreal and episodic horror vibe. Following the directions of an urban legend, university student Sorawo finds her way to a reality populated by horrifying creatures from ghost stories and modern urban legends (of which I’m sure you’ll recognize many). Here she teams up with fellow explorer Toriko, both to find out more about this strange world and to help Toriko find a missing loved one. Also available as a manga and (one season of) an anime. Sapphic.

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Amrfield
Miri thought she lost her wife Leah when her deep-sea mission ended in a catastrophe. But Leah was miraculously returned to her - or so it seems. Because something happened down there, deep in the ocean, and whatever it was, Leah has brought it back with her. Surreal and strange, Our Wives Under the Sea will not answer all your questions, but it will give you a unique experience.
What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
Novella. Alex Easton, retired soldier, travels to visit their childhood friends, siblings Madeline and Roderick Usher, after finding out that Madeline is dying. In the siblings’ rural, ancestral home, Madeline walks in her sleep and looks to be fading away, while around it wildlife seems to be possessed by a strange force. With the help of a mycologist and an American doctor, Alex attempts to save Madeline and reveal the truth of her illness. Nonbinary main character.
Alien: Echo by Mira Grant
Young adult. Twin sisters Olivia and Viola’s parents are both xenobiologists, bringing them all over the galaxy. Most recently they’ve settled on a new colony world to study its wildlife, but it proves more dangerous than they could’ve ever imagined. Under attack from alien monsters, the sisters must keep each other alive while also coming to terms with a dark family secret. Sapphic horror. Part of the Alien franchise but stands well on its own.

Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant*
A research vessel heads towards the Mariana Trench in search of answers of what happened to a ship which mysteriously lost all its crew some time earlier. In the deep dark, something intelligent and hungry awaits them. Very much mermaids of the horror variety. Sequel to a novella, can be read as a standalone. Also contains a sapphic romance, however that is a pretty small part of the plot as a whole.
Alice Isn't Dead by Joseph Fink
Based on the podcast by the same name. Keisha Taylor thought she had lost her wife. She even held a funeral and attempted to move on with her life. But then Alice started to appear, all over America, in the background of every single major tragedy in the country. To find her missing wife, Keisha gets a job as a trucker and sets out on a roadtrip, not knowing what horrors awaits her.
Wilder Girls by Rory Power
Young adult. Over a year ago, the Raxter School for Girls was hit by the Tox, a strange disease that killed off many and left the survivors’ bodies slowly changing in terrifying ways. The island the school is on has been in quarantine since then, and the girls dare not leave the school grounds lest they become victims of wild animals changed by the Tox. But as they wait for the promised cure, one of the girls goes missing, and her friends are willing to do anything to find her. Unsettling, spooky, and sapphic, this is a unique read featuring body horror and messy, dangerous girls.

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
Once, Andy, Kerri, Nate, Peter and their faithful dog were known as the Blyton Summer Detective Club, until they hit their fateful final case in 1977. Now, the year is 1990, and the group hasn't gathered in years. Tomboy Andy is wanted in at least two states; Kerri, former kid genius, is tending bar; and horror nerd Nate is in a mental institution in Arkham. At least he still has the company of jock-turned-movie star Peter - except Peter has been dead for years. Now they must all come together to find out the truth of what happened all those years ago. Lovecraftian horror with a sometimes absurdist vibe and adult scooby do inspiration. Sapphic romance.
Contagion by Erin Bowman*
Young adult. After receiving an SOS, a small crew is sent on a standard search-and-rescue mission. But what they find are not survivors awaiting help, but an abandoned site, full of dead bodies and crawling with something… monstrous. No romance, but features one sapphic co-lead and one who can easily be read as demisexual (however this doesn’t show up until book two, which has more romance).
Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand*
Young adult. The isolated island of Sawkill Rock has secrets. It hosts the legend of a local monster, and the very stark reality of decades of girls going missing, never to be found again. Now, three girls stand at the center of the horrific mystery - if only they can come together, perhaps they can save future generations of girls from a monster that may very well be real. Asexual and sapphic main characters, including a sapphic romance.

Salvation Day by Kali Wallace
A decade ago, the massive ship House of Wisdom was abandoned in orbit after its entire crew was killed in an outbreak in a matter of hours. Now, Zahra and her family of outcasts hope to claim the ship as their own by kidnapping the sole survivor to gain access. But the danger of the House of Wisdom is far from gone. Horror, no major romance but one of the main characters is gay.
The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling*
Possibly one of the most unstintingly claustrophobic books I’ve ever read, and definitely the most claustrophobic. Gyre, a caver on an alien planet, ventures into the dark and dangerous underground, guided only by a woman who has no compunctions on using and manipulating Gyre as she sees fit to obtain her secretive goals down in the caves. Sapphic in the most messy of ways.
Gideon the Ninth (The Locked Tomb series) by Tamsyn Muir*
Gideon, raised as a swordswoman by unfriendly nuns, would rather run away and make her own life, but her services are needed. The Reverend Daughter, Gideon’s childhood nemesis, has been invited to a trial to win a place as an immortal by the Emperor’s side, and she’s in need of a bodyguard. Listen, if you’re on tumblr I probably don’t need to explain this book to you. Trust me when I say it’s exactly as good as people claim. Humorous and spooky but also absolutely gut wrenching and clever with a lot of political commentary. There are also, indeed, lesbian necromancers in space.

Family Business by Jonathan Sims
By the author behind the Magnus Archives. When Diya's childhood best friend and roommate unexpectedly passes away, Diya falls apart and, among other things, loses her job. When she's offered a position at Slough & Sons to clean up after the deceased, she sees no other recourse but to accept. Her new job is grisly but important, and Diya starts to get back on her feet - until strange visions of a terrifying man and the dead's last moments start to haunt her. Slough & Sons are hiding something, and it's up to Diya to find out the truth. No romance, bisexual main character and trans woman side character.
Sodom Road Exit by Amber Dawn
Starla didn't want to return to her childhood home of Crystal Beach, Canada, but growing debt has forced her to move back in with her mother, despite the trauma hidden in her old home. But Starla is haunted by more than trauma; she is, in fact, literally haunted, by a ghost that may understand her, but may also consume her. Not overly scary, but handles dark subjects such as childhood sexual assault. Lesbian main character and romance.
House of Hunger by Alexis Henderson*
In a world where the rich drink blood to preserve their health, Marion applies to a position as bloodmaid in a notorious noble house far from home. Suddenly showered with luxuries and debauchery, Marion soon gains the interest and favor of Lisavet, countess of the house. A fresh take on the idea of vampires and deliciously dark sapphic romance inspired by the horrific real-life Elisabet Báthory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson
Dracula inspired novella, following Constanta, who’s turned from a medieval peasant to an undead bride. As time passes the relationship between Dracula and Constanta grows all the more strained and potentially dangerous. Teaming up with his two other consorts, she seeks to unravel her husband’s secrets. Sapphic and polyamorous.
Dread Nation (Dread Nation duology) by Justina Ireland
Young adult, alternate history. In this world, the war between the American states is interrupted when the dead start walking the earth and hunting the living. Jane McKeene has been trained at Miss Preston’s School of Combat to become an attendant, skilled in combat as well as etiquette to protect the wealthy. But Jane wants a different life, and in her search for it stumbles headfirst into a conspiracy. Bisexual main character, aroace side character (who becomes a POV character in the sequel).
Manhunt by Gretchen Felker-Martin
In a future where those with high testosterone are afflicted by zombie-like disease, bloodthirsty men have become the enemy. Trans women Beth and Fran and trans man Robbie do their best to survive in this brutal world, where TERF movements seek to exterminate them and monstrous men hunt in the wilds. VERY gruesome and bleak, but also very timely in the present political climate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leech by Hiron Ennes*
Unbeknownst to humanity, a sentient hive mind has taken over the entire medical profession to ensure the health of their host species. One of their doctors is sent off to an isolated location where they’re cut off from the rest of the hive mind, only to realize they’re faced with a rivaling parasitic entity. Leech hands you only just enough information to get by, and whether its historical fantasy, an alternate timeline, or futuristic post apocalypse is hard to determine. It’s spooky and a bit weird and wildly creative, and does some neat things with gender.
The Outside by Ada Hoffman*
AKA the book the put me in an existential crisis. Souls are real, and they are used to feed AI gods in this lovecraftian inspired sci-fi where reality is warped and artificial gods stand against real, unfathomable ones. Autistic scientist Yasira is accused of heresy and, to save her eternal soul, is recruited by cybernetic ‘angels’ to help hunt down her own former mentor, who is threatening to tear reality itself apart. Sapphic main character.
The Gilded Abyss by Rebecca Thorne
Nix Marr is a soldier and damned good at it, but that doesn’t prepare her for her next mission: bodyguard for Subarch Kessandra, beloved royal and Nix’s bitter ex. The two venture toward the underwater city of Fall to seek the cause of a bloody murder spree and a possible deadly contagion. But Kessandra has enemies, the answers she seeks marking her as a possible threat for the nation’s rulers. On their way in an isolated and enclosed underwater ship toward Fall, the contagion catches up, and Nix will have to put her hurt feelings aside if the two are to arrive alive. Sci-fi with flavors of horror and the supernatural and a sapphic romance.
