The revisionist history of these live action remakes needs to be studied. The amount of people who are saying the PJO movies and the M Night Shyamalan movie that shall not be named are better than the current live action shows is absurd. People immediately shut down at the prospect of changes to the plot, get mad at exposition, then get mad when they don’t pick up on story lines and characterization. Then they say that the objectively terrible cash grab movies are better than the new shows where creators obviously love the source material and want to pay homage to it. And don’t get me started on the terrible treatment both casts have received, ESPECIALLY THE CHILDREN! People need to grow up. Im not saying you have to like the shows but saying theyre worse than those movies is wild.

The Netflix Avatar isn't perfect.
but once you reconcile the story changes and understand that it is an adaptation, thus allowing creative license, you can begin to warm up to it.
in other words, I didn't love it at first, even though I wanted to. but the last few episodes, especially Masks, really made it hard not to like.

These two movies are equally artistically bankrupt, but one got a pass due to 25 year gap nostalgia
Just saying...

Funny story: so today I was gonna watch the natla finale, but then I re-watched ATLA ep 13 The Blue Spirit with my mum and my standards got raised way too high to bear seeing anything from the live action show. Until I unintentionally clicked on a yt vid discussing the-movie-that-shall-not-be-named a few hours later, and now I have a new appreciation for what the natla show is. Sure, it will never reach the heights of the original, but it's also way above the movie, and for that I am grateful.
Lets see if I can get through natla ep 8 tomorrow lol

Dragon Riders HCs+
While he doesn’t tell anyone else, (besides his best girl) Fishlegs knows that Snotlout had a crush on Thor Bonecrusher.
Hiccup had a brief crush on Eret after he decided not to be a dragon trapper anymore. Astrid teases him about it constantly.
Astrid and Heather had a fling before Heather and Fishlegs got together.
No one tells Snotlout that Valka is his aunt.
The twins are both trans.
Tuffnut did his own top surgery.
Hiccup and Astrid are also trans. T4T babey.
Spitelout misgendered Hiccup for years. Snotlout called him out for it every single time.
Fishlegs names off dragon species and facts when he’s overstimulated (kind of canon)
Valka is rarely on Berk due to being used to having to save dragons from Drago’s trappers.

Minecraft movie? What are you talking about? I'm pretty sure they've been talking about making a movie for years, it's all a myth at this point. Yeah no, it's never actually happening. Let's just chill and watch some Hermitcraft, alright?

i guess it's bye bye to the blue spirit

You know what? The live-action gives me the impression that it knows it won't reach ATLA.
From the beginning, I think they accepted that fact and instead focused on giving their own twist to the story, which I can respect.
This is why TLA failed. Shyamalan wanted for his adaptation to be the spitting image of the animated series, if the incorporation of a lot of the favourite, most iconic scenes from the show is anything to go by.
But it fell flat, echoed hollow, because he just didn't get why those scenes were so beloved, and what made them carry the weight that they do.
But the live action focused more on tinkering with the characters, dynamics and the narrative, while also trying to remain authentic.
I'm not talking about whether they were successful or not, I'm talking about intention.
And I think their heart is in the right place.
The dilemma was "How do you surpass the unsurpassable?". And the answer? It's "You don't".
And they rolled with that.
