Imagine how amazing it would be if right now we got a well written elder scrolls game about the thalmorâs continued rise to power. It could be a whole exploration of how imperial interests led to the Empire supporting the Thalmorâs racism and destruction, even as the Thalmor strongly hint that they are fully prepared to go to war with the Empire againâŠ.. alas we can only dreamâŠ. and read fanfiction

You post a decent amount about the various elder scrolls games. (Respected)
As someone who has never played them but loves rpgs and has always wanted to get into this series, which game would you suggest for a starting point?
I think it depends on your personal preferences. Iâll just give you my opinions about why you might like each one and let you decide. Very very long infodump incoming.
The early two games, Arena and Daggerfall, are really hard to use if youâre used to modern controls and might not work on modern operating systems well. However, if youâre one of those people whoâs really into 90s computer dungeon crawlers that require reading a textbook length manual youâll probably like them. They take a lot of inspiration from dnd and constantly use invisible dice rolls when it comes to stuff like damage and hit chance and youâve gotta be careful about building your character. Iâd suggest looking up a guide, even.
These games have a campy sexy pixelated dungeons and dragons feel to them. Plot isnât super important in these games but Arenaâs plot revolves around gathering the parts of a broken staff to defeat a wizard. Daggerfallâs plot has more to do with political intrigue and deciding which faction you think is better. Neither of these games have much of a plot when it comes to guilds and factions. Daggerfall does have randomly generated guild quests you can do but thereâs almost no plot to them.
Morrowind is far more user friendly but itâs still kinda hard to grasp if youâre more used to modern games. Thereâs a dice roll mechanic on attacks and if you donât build your character correctly youâre sort of screwed. You can learn to get good at the game though and it has a pretty compelling story in my opinion. This is the one right before they started doing full voice acting so it involves quite a bit of reading. Thereâs also no fast travel. You need to pay for transportation in universe with currency. Thereâs also no quest markets and you need to follow directions given to you by NPCs. Some people like that though.
The vibe of Morrowind is like very overcast and foggy and muggy. Kind of European inspired, kind of Asian inspired. Thereâs giant insects and a lot of ash everywhere from volcano storms. They do a lot with what few polygons they have. The plot has to do with a prophecy that youâre caught up in and the political implications of it. Morrowind is ruled by a trio of living gods and you are the one prophesied to bring their downfall. Guild quests have way more of a plot than Daggerfall in that they sort of have a plot but they tend to be pretty formulaic. My favorite of the bunch is probably the thieves guild because you get to sort of cosplay as Robinhood for a bit due to a plot point that barely makes sense. The DLC for this game is a treat. You get a big city and a snowy island to explore. Thereâs werewolves and goblins and a weird drug addict.
Oblivion is my personal favorite and itâs the goofiest elder scrolls game by far. The ragdolls are hilarious and the NPCs are programmed to have randomly generated conversations with each other throughout the day which are sometimes interesting but usually donât make sense. The random chance mechanics are gone but stats like strength and the importance of building your character correctly are still there. Oblivion is still a bit outdated but itâs more user friendly than Morrowind. It also retains some customizable elements like multiple enchanting pieces and spell making from the old games without being so huge as to be overwhelming. The thing people often donât like about oblivion is the level scaling of enemies and the graphics. Personally I think the graphics are charming but some folks donât like the potato face low polygon look that everybody has. And as for the level scaling, well, unless you wanna look up in depth how to level optimally, probably just donât level past level 20 on your first playthrough and donât worry about it too hard. Maybe use some skills that arenât in your major skills sometimes. Turn the difficulty down if you need to. Youâll be fine. Itâs not that complicated but also donât be a hero. Turn the difficulty down if you need to.
Oblivion has like a Mediterranean vibe. Itâs bright and colorful and is sort of stylized like youâve stepped into a landscape painting. Itâs like a late medieval Italian countryside with some ominous Roman ruins hanging around. Cyrodiil is also a very diverse Provence in universe with it being centrally located and also the seat of power for the empire. It probably has the most diversity in types of NPCs of any other game in the series because of this. The main plot starts with you witnessing the emperor being assassinated as heâs escaping through your prison cell and you need to go find his one surviving son but as you go to find him, portals to oblivion, which is sort of like Hell but also not, start opening up all over the place and you need to start working with the new emperor to figure out how to close the oblivion gates and stop an invasion of the material plane.
The guild quests in oblivion are where faction quests actually get good. This is also the only game in the series where you can fight to death in a gladiator arena despite that concept being what set off the idea for the entire series. The dark brotherhood assassins guild is one of the best in the whole series and in the mages guild questline you get to fight a secret cult of necromancers. The DLC is also quite fun. Meet the god of madness and fight a demon in the sky.
So, Skyrim. Skyrim is most peopleâs introduction for the series and for good reason. It drops some of the RPG elements and customization from the previous games but itâs by far the most user friendly. You can use both hands, thereâs a unique shouts and powers mechanic, you can be a werewolf, the leveling system is way improved from previous games (no more having to plan out your character), you can fight dragons, and although the elder scrolls series has always been about wandering the world and getting distracted, Skyrim perfects this aspect of it. The world is somehow simultaneously vast and dense which is an incredible feat. You will get distracted and thatâs the whole point.
The vibe of Skyrim is far north. Scandinavia at its harshest. Itâs got dense forests, tundras, steep cliffs, rivers, and snow. Itâs a land of myths that are not only real but lying in wait to tear you limb from limb. Itâs also gorgeous. You can wander around and watch the moons rise, watch an aurora borealis, see unique styles of architecture in each city, look at wood and stone carvings. The ghosts feel both ethereal and solid. The world is worn and comfortably lived in. A blunt instrument as well as a sharp object.
The plot of Skyrim is that thereâs a civil war going on. Choosing between staying with the empire or becoming independent. However, just as it looks like the war is about to end and the rebel leaders are about to be beheaded, a dragon shows up for the first time in thousands of years. Youâre a prisoner that manages to escape in the chaos and you get caught up in discovering the reason the dragons are coming back and you can pick sides (or not) in the escalating civil war. The guild and faction quests in Skyrim are decent. Thereâs werewolves, menacing orbs, holy keys. The DLC is where Skyrimâs side adventures really shine though in my opinion. Evil Dragonborns, vampire hunters, trekking through oblivion and the afterlife, discovering lost civilizations. Skyrimâs DLCs also have some of the best characters in the series.
So. Sorry for info dumping that much lol. Hope some of that information is useful. If you just want an easy starting point, pick oblivion or Skyrim. If you want a more customizable start point with a bigger initial learning curve, start with Morrowind. If you like fighting with early 90s computer games you might be the type to prefer arena or Daggerfall.
I really hope you enjoy the series! Itâs one of my favorite things in the whole world if you couldnât tell by my adhd rambling lol

I think it just clicked with me why when I first saw Faenil I thought they were really neat. they delve into the science aspect of Elder Scrolls which I feel like not a lot of OCs do unless they study Dwemer stuff or are House Telvanni. and I LOVE the slight sci-fi aspects Elder Scrolls has cuz if feels like no other fantasy series does that.
LONG ASS RAMBLE TIME!!! I'm putting most of it under a cut again. I'm gonna power through some other interesting asks today as well. But yes!!! I'm glad you sent this because I am so fascinated with the sci-fi themes in this series too! I guess when I started thinking about Faenil as a concept, I figured that a flesh mage should definitely know quite a lot about biology and medicine in order to properly work with their craft. But then I came across a problem - why would a society built around magic need a science-based doctor when there's alchemy and restoration magic?
I vaguely remember reading some story within one of the games (forgot which one it was) where someone gets sick and someone drives themselves mad trying to find a cure - so clearly there are limitations to restoration and alchemy when it comes to healing, but it's kind of left up for interpretation.
So here's where my own stupid headcanons come in. I mean, if a cure disease potion cures a contracted disease, kinda like an antibiotic, and restoration magic helps with closing wounds, then what do you do when there's something else wrong with your body? What if magic isn't always an available option? What do you do when someone has cancer, or even a benign tumor - what do you do when someone's appendix is about to burst - what do you do when someone has a heart condition - or diabetes - or failing organs... the list is endless, and I'm sure highly developed societies within fantasy settings have people who are specialized to figure these things out! And what's better than mixing magic with science?
I know in the games magic is pretty mechanical in the sense that most of it is only meant to aid you through combat, but the combat in the games is objectively pretty simple and boring, and I'm sure there are other unique ways to apply magic to the daily lives of people in Tamriel. What if you can use something like detect life (alteration) similarly to an x-ray? What if you can enchant medical instruments similarly to weapons and apparel? Could you create something like NSAIDs out of common alchemical ingredients? Can frost magic be used to freeze organs? Could you defibrillate someone's heart with dual shock magic? I have so many ideas. I'm especially obsessed with the notion that surgeries are so intricate that they might as well be considered magical rituals with the way poor preparation and the wrong tools will lead to a complete catastrophe. And obviously cleanliness and proper sterilization is vital to pretty much anything medical wise - but this is also a medieval fantasy land where medicine is still very experimental and understudied, so things will go wrong a lot! So, with that being said, I don't have to feel bad for not being a medical expert - I dropped out of medical school twice but at least I get to live my dreams through this fucked up and evil altmer OC haha
Thing with Faenil is that despite their absolute dogshit interpersonal skills giving a different impression, they ARE intelligent, not only because mages are a class built on intelligence, but because a doctor needs critical thinking skills; they need to be able to problem solve and they need to be highly analytical. So, while they are pretty inexperienced with the things they come across in Skyrim, they are constantly taking notes in their little journal and figuring out the easy way around taking down some new type of enemy or solving some weird dungeon puzzle. For example, I don't think Faenil has ever seen dwemer contraptions before, but they have definitely studied the dwemer from books and applied some of their mechanics to prosthetic limbs, so it's gonna be fun to explore how they will tackle something like a dwarven centurion considering they will most likely try to analyze its design to find out how to turn it off and then come up with a strategy to get to it. And, of course, they will realize eventually that teamwork is essential, just like it was with their work back in Alinor, and it will hopefully be pretty satisfying when Faenil gets an idea and everything falls into place just right every once in a while.
All this to say, Faenil is also one of those annoying "get destroyed by facts and logic" type people LMAO they will literally taunt a god in their face, get struck by lightning, and say it proves nothing.

if you have a dragon oc (that is, you have an oc who is an elder scrolls/skyrim dragon) please tell me who they are. i want to write a poem about them.
i'm writing a selection of small poems for an in-fic book about dragons. i already have written about many dragons i invented, but i'm thinking maybe i could use some "variety" since i lean toward a lot of the same themes over and over.
even if so far you have only thought of their name or maybe you haven't thought of this at all, this will prompt you to get creative and make something up!
send anything to the replies or reblogs, please. i won't be turning on messaging/asks on this blog bc too many bots send me stuff constantly.
tell me:
their name. MUST be a proper dovahzul name. if they don't have one, i will invent one for you if you want and will work with you to achieve this. otherwise, i'm not writing about them. and NO non-canon dovahzul (semi-canon is possibly fine if you also consider yourself to be a dovahzul speaker)
any deeds they have committed, good, bad, evil, cruel, strange, etc. that may be noteworthy historically
any obscure but major facts about them that could be lost in time. something the ancient nords knew but that 4e people do not and cannot find this info anywhere else
a physical description, such as the color of their wings and scales, what their horns look like, how big they are, etc. if you have made any art pls show me!!
any other interesting/unique abilities they possessed
info that i do not need at this time:
their recent actions after alduin resurrected them, if applicable
if they never died and lived in obscurity somewhere throughout the millennia and what they did during that time
if they weren't in skyrim or solstheim pre- and during the dragon war, or if they would've been unknown to the ancient nords, they can't be included
don't worry too much about what to share/not share, feel free to just yap about your dovah! i'm here for it!
the point of this is that my ldb haela has inherited an ancient family book of poems/stories about the dragons and has passed it on to her children. the poems are scattered throughout the work and referenced by the characters sometimes. i want to put them all together at some point to have a more "complete" set of poems which represent the book of poetry my characters possess â separate from the main work. your dovah will not be mentioned in the fic whatsoever, it's just to fill up my poetry selection and flesh it out more!
i have written many poems in dovahzul and in this specific free-verse style. in fic, the poems are inferred to be written in dovahzul. i, as the author, am kindly translating. i would consider them free-verse, as they are written in a way that mimics being translated from an ancient dialect (dovahzul).
i can't say when i'll finish writing it, as it's a small part in a very large work. but if i end up writing about your dovah i will definitely share it with you :D thank you if you choose to send anything!
*there is no time limit on this and i'll keep this post pinned until i no longer need any more info!

small excerpt as an example:
Horrid blood-seeker
who devours man and beast
tearing the flesh
and swallowing the blood
Fearsome one,
who has ended many mortal lives
And when the battle-horns sound,
when the screams pierce the clouds,
wherever blood should be spilled,
the dovah Volyahsos
would join in slaughter
No pleasure is greater
than to kill in the name
of himself
(this particular poem is in fact translated from a larger dovahzul piece i wrote. it was not written in english and then translated to dovauzul. this is how i write almost all of my dragon poems)

hello. I am in the middle of doing My Take on vampires and would appreciate your thoughts on Them in fiction. they don't seem to pop up more than occasionally in superhero media, but also you are pretty widely read & they have noticeable Eras/Tendencies that I can see.
I'm definitely not as much of a vampire guy as I'm a Superhero guy, so all my opinions on vampires should be taken with a grain of salt, and with the knowledge that a lot of this is stuff I've picked up through Osmosis and the occasional lit-review for that one class in college. But here goes-
One of my potentially more controversial takes about Vampires is that I think Vampires (and adjacent creatures like werewolves) are great at capturing the emotional truth of being part of a marginalized group, or sometimes just for being subaltern- the world against you, people make you feel like you're wrong for existing, that you're dangerous, etc.- and this is why they go gangbusters both on this website and in general. But the narrative often faceplants for me if it tries to portray vampires as a literal marginalized group because all of that stuff is often objectively true within the fiction in a way that it isn't true of real-life marginalized groups. It's a souped-up version of the X-men problem, because most of the X-Men aren't obligate cannibals! The result of this is that there have been several times I'm consuming something vampire-related that wants me to primarily sympathize with the vampires, and meanwhile I'm going "geez, that's a rough deal, but I think you all need to be killed on purely utilitarian grounds, sorry."
(I do also get the sense as well, right, that this is inextricably tangled up in the fact that a lot of foundational vampire literature was kind of just taking a lot of the horrible lies people tell about the scapegoat group du jour to justify their oppression and then making a guy of whom these things were objectively true. I get the impression, at a distance, that Dracula demonstrates like fourteen different flavors of "Those Depraved Easterners Are Coming For Our Women," although to truly lock in that Take I'm gonna have to read the thing instead of just absorbing it through Tumblr Osmosis whenever Dracula Daily is running.) There are ways to thread this needle, the big one of which is to just sand down the negative externalities of vampirism. Have them feed on animals or voluntary donors or make the human predation thing an in-universe slanderous fiction to begin with. Have them feed on exclusively on quote-unquote "criminals," if you have the right unexamined assumptions about the validity of the death penalty. Go the Elder Scrolls route, where drinking blood isn't necessary to survive but is necessary to maintain a human appearance, thus ensuring that the most morally conscientious vampires are the ones most likely to be identified as vampires and scapegoated by the angry mob. The issue I sometimes take with this is that the act of implementing a "fix" of any kind can sort of broadcast that you're trying to have your cake and eat it too- that you're cutting away the ideatic core of what makes vampires interesting when divorced from metaphor, taken objectively- that they're living trolley problems. As others have said, if you sand them down too much, what are you getting out of a vampire story that you couldn't get from a Tolkien Elf, or from Batman?
A fictional group which I've never really had this issue with, though, is Zombies, in the Romero tradition. When a work wants to construct Zombies as a primarily sympathetic group, it's much easier for me to get on board with that without feeling like the core Vibe has been compromised. This is because there's actually a fairly recent source text for zombies in the form of Romero's Living Dead films, and a major component of the Living Dead films is how much it sucks without recourse to become a zombie.
I was working on a post once, which I never finished, about how there are like, three-to-four vectors of horror that zombies can embody, which different works play up to different extents. While obviously one of the big straightforward ones is the fear that your entire community starts trying to kill you and eat you one day for basically no reason, a major anxiety on display in the original Living Dead trilogy- Dawn in particular- is that in the face of a weird but manageable problem human society would act as its own condemnation, totally failing to rise to the challenge-the horror is that we would let something as inept as a zombie be dangerous to us! Also present in those films? The horror of the idea that your daily routine is so rote and conformist that you wouldn't need to be sentient to continue to carry it out- that the biggest difference between you and them is that you can occasionally be evil in more interesting and evolved ways. And there's this fear of physically and mental degradation with zombies, which for a host of reasons I find extremely fucking relatable. The sense that your body is falling apart piecemeal, bits of you sloughing off when you turn the wrong way or turn your head too quickly. There's this fog over your thinking. The bone-deep knowledge that you used to be more, and are now fundamentally less capable- that there's just enough of you left to understand something is missing. (Read into my personal circumstances whatever you want from this.) Being a zombie is foundationally, fundamentally gross in a way that being a vampire isn't; when people try to do "sexy zombies" half the joke is the pairing of those two words. There's this horror comic Kieth Giffen did once called Tag which is basically entirely about the horror of being a corpse that could feel it; I think about that comic a lot. Anyway, because so much of the horror of zombism is external to whether they're actually attacking and killing people or not, you can totally sell me on zombies as an unfairly-maligned demographic in a way that's much harder for me to buy with Vampires- dropping the danger they pose to other people allows you to maintain so much more of the core of the thing than it does with Vampires, where it feels much more like you're tip-toeing around the tensions between Wanting To Have Fun and the moral horror inherent to what you're trying to have fun with.
#sorry for hijacking your ask to talk about zombies!#not sorry enough to not do it obviously#ask#thoughts#meta#vampires#zombies#untitled zombie project#night of the living dead#effortpost

I'm quite interested in your beliefs as a fellow Elder Scrolls nerd. Where does Dagoth Ur fall into your religion?
(other ask)
Also do you worship all the deific figures of the Elder Scrolls or just some in particular? Do you differentiate between the different kinds of "god" (Anu and Padomay, Aedra, Daedra, the Hist, random less-well-known gods like the Blind God or Ebonarm, etc.)
___
Dagoth Ur falls into it in a bit of a weird way, but He's definitely included! I focus, as of recently, mostly on the Nine Divines and Daedric Princes, but I've done quite a bit with Dagoth Ur, so I'll do my best to describe it.
Dagoth Ur kind of exists on His lonesome, instead of being included in ALMSIVI / the Tribunal. Kind of like how in the games, He's the "tribe unmourned", the forgotten house (of House Dagoth). But he's still a God, he still ascended alongside the rest of ALMSIVI.
So Dagoth Ur kind of exists as an "individualist" as I dub them - An entity that exists on their lonesome outside of a pantheon.
(For a bit of context: I worship TES as a syncreticism of multiple pantheons instead of all of them together as one single pantheon. The Nine Divines and ALMSIVI are examples of pantheons, but I syncretize them by worshiping them both.)
Dagoth Ur as a teacher and guide is more of a... harsh teacher? Very charismatic, very wise. Teaches in very vague and esoteric ways. The lessons I receive from Dagoth Ur are more likely to be weirdly and vaguely and strangely delivered, but still received in the end.
But Dagoth tends to be very willing to bonk the heck out of me if needed. He's a great teacher, just a bit hard to always understand before the thing he's talking about comes to be. (Such as warning me about something then I'm only realizing "OHhhh it was about this..." when I'm in the thick of it... thanks for trying anyways man)
I do worship all deific figures, as well as the (known) saints. (I assume there's probably more saints than touched in lore and saints can be added to at any time by Bethesda as they see fit).
I do generally differentiate, partially as part of the pantheon. Anu and Padomay are their own, the Hist is its own thing (and currently I'm not entirely sure how to include Hist in my worship as it's very... vague? and esoteric? so I'm not sure where to go, but I do include the Hist), etc etc etc.
When it comes to the Princes the pantheon aspect gets a bit weird, because they all kind of exist on their lonesome, but when you examine them from certain lenses, such as the original Dunmeri faith that worships the Three Good Daedra (Azura, Mephala, Boethiah) and provides fearful obeisance and appeasement of the Four Corners of the House of Troubles (Sheogorath, Malacath, Mehrunes Dagon, Molag Bal) they become a pantheon when they wouldn't be in another case, such as in considering the Nords, who don't worship them at all (at least widely, we do see some canon Nords who are Daedra worshipers, but these also are non-pantheons where it's a "you pick one." situation)
I do include lesser known Gods, including random ones only mentioned freakin' ONCE in Arena then likely got retconned out of existence lmao. Bye guys sorry for your loss. Though as I've still got a lot of personal stuff to figure out for them (because it requires me to ask a lot of questions and "set up") before I can really do much with them, they tend to be smaller parts of my worship than much more established Gods like the Nine, the Princes, ALMSIVI... It's harder to worship these lesser known ones just because it takes so much extra time settling in in order to begin. Though I've seen other folks who focus exclusively on entities like Y'ffre. And that's cool to me!
Thanks for the question and the curiosity! I love talking about my TES faith a lot, so I hope it's okay that I rambled a bit.

âïžBEFORE YOU FOLLOWâïž
~ I am a loud and proud yumeshipper, I pretty much only ship my fav characters with my OCs and I only care for a very select few canon x canon ships. Currently I mostly ship my Postal oc with the Postal Dude, all versions. If you don't fw that then keep on scrolling.
~ Along with that, I wanna make one thing clear. I don't fw most of the rest of the Postal fandom either and I think there's A LOT serious issues within it. Including a huge fanon mischaracterization problem, especially for the Postal 1 and 2 Dudes. I won't get fully into it here, but just know that if you think either of them are canonically âevilâ or sadistic, or anything but average guys pushed over the edge until they snap (yknow, like the literal definition of going Postal as the game title implies, and how RWS THEMSELVES HAVE REPEATEDLY DESCRIBED THE DUDES AS) then this is not the art blog for you and I will not argue about it. Just fuck off or be blocked
~ I am a big mixed bag of mental disorders, mainly suffering from Schizophrenia (yes, I am diagnosed and have been for 13+ years), C-PTSD, GAD, depression and autism. Mental health is a very important topic to me, and I often like to vent, explore and compare my own experiences with trauma and mental illness through fictional media and artwork. So this is a little warning incase I post or reblog anything graphic or potentially upsetting in the future. I will also put trigger warnings and appropriate tags over those posts when they are made/shared of course, since Some People don't botherâŠ
~ I'm extremely shy and scared of interacting with new people so if you want to chat or be friends, then PLEASE feel free to message me! I'll respond but you gotta say hi first because I probably won't.
~ I don't take free art requests so please donât bother unless you're interested in commissioning me. Sorry, but I need to eat and pay bills too.
~ I am a stoner and I may occasionally post/reblog stuff about smoking weed because I use it medicinally, but I am not a fan of cigarettes, alcohol, and certainly not hard drugs and I don't condone them.

Missed yesterday's so
April 3rd: Talk about family. How are your relationships with your family members? Are they generally supportive of you as an autistic person? Are they accommodating to your needs? Does being autistic affect your familial relationships in any meaningful way?
My immediate family is generally very good about it, and I probably wouldn't be alive without them tbh. It can cause difficulties with stuff like tolerating other people's noises and stuff, and sometimes misunderstandings. But my mum is technically my carer and she's also autistic. She gets me quite well, and we've grown closer since she got her diagnosis too. There have been issues with extended family members saying ignorant and dismissive things sometimes though.
April 4th: What are your current special interests if you have any? What are some positive ways having special interests have affected your life? What are some negative ways that they have affected your life? How long do they tend to last for you? You could even talk about past special interests if you want.
My current special interests are linguistics, the tv show Community and the Elder Scrolls video game series, especially Elder Scrolls Online. They typically last a long time, all of these have been around for years. Linguistics has been there a really long time and I'm currently doing a master's degree in it, so big positive impact there. My special interests help me ground myself and understand the world, and motivate me to do important things. For example, recently my mum put a Troy and Abed in the Morning sticker on a water bottle and gave it to me, and it has genuinely gotten me to drink more water. But they can also take up too much of my attention and stop me thinking about other things I need to, make it harder to hold a conversation about other things, and sometimes make me feel such intense emotions that it's overwhelming and draining.

NIGHTWISH's TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN: 'My Biggest Musical Heroes Come From The Film Music Genre'
In a new interview with the German edition of the Rolling Stone magazine, NIGHTWISH keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen once again said that writing film scores is something he would like to do in the future. "Yeah, I'm a big fan of film scores," he explained (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). "My biggest musical heroes come from the film music genre: John Williams, the best ever, him, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard, Ennio Morricone, just to mention a few. So I'm really into that stuff. That's the kind of music that I listen to, if I listen to music, which I don't do very much anymore.
"But, yeah, writing a score to a film has been in the back of my mind for 25 years," he added. "But [I've] never been asked, and I don't even know if it would be my cup of tea, because you are really confined to the story and to how the director wants you to write, and I'm not sure if I would be up to that."
A few years ago, Holopainen was asked by Untitled if he would ever write a complete soundtrack for a film. The 47-year-old musician responded: "I wish I could. That has been a dream of mine for years, but it would need to be something that really strikes my fancies. I wouldn't be interested in writing a score for a romantic comedy. It has to be something interesting â a nature documentary for Discovery channel or even a really cool game. I'd love to do [role-playing video game] 'The Elder Scrolls VI', something like that. Anyway, at the moment NIGHTWISH is, by far, my main priority, so that's what I want to focus on for my near future. I can see myself in my fifties doing something like that, though, if somebody's interested."
During the same chat, Holopainen was asked whom he would like to work with, if he could choose anybody. He responded: "Two of my biggest heroes are Hans Zimmer and [Oscar-winning Greek composer] Vangelis, so either one of those. But then again, I want to keep a bit of distance from my heroes. Once, I was in Helsinki and saw Hans Zimmer live. Then I got invited to meet him at a party afterwards but I declined. He's such a big character for me and some part of me wants to keep it like that. A good example of this is that for my whole childhood Walt Disney was my hero; he was like a demigod for me. When I read his biography, the world crumbled. He wasn't a very nice person. For some people, you want to keep the distance. So, to return to your question, if Hans asked for a cooperation, I would definitely do it."
NIGHTWISH's latest album, "Yesterwynde", arrived in September via Nuclear Blast. It marked the band's tenth studio LP, following on from the release of "Human. :II: Nature." in 2020.
In April 2023, NIGHTWISH surprised fans by announcing that the band was not going to be playing any live shows for the foreseeable future and would be not be touring in support of "Yesterwynde".
"The reasons are personal," Tuomas told Metal Hammer magazine. "We're not going to go into it, but it was something that had to be done for this band to continue. There's no bad blood between the members, nothing like that. We just have to take a long breather."

21+ currently obsessed with high, dark fantasy settings. Really inspired by things like Souls-games right now (Dark Souls, Elden Ring) and fantasy like DnD, Baldurâs Gate, The Elder Scrolls/Skyrim, Lord of the Rings/Tolkeinn, Game of Thrones/George Martin, etc - you get the vibes. Worlds full of different creatures, monsters, magic, dungeons, gods, ghosts, curses, different kinds of kingdoms, etc. Iâm quite leaning to something more in the line of Elden Ring/dark fantasy in particular, with a lot feuds, fighting, wars, factions, magic, etc. Iâd love to do an ocxoc rp in such a setting. Iâm open to any pairing + trans/nb characters. Bring me your rogues, your Chosen One, your mages, your elves, monsters, demigods, corrupt characters or good knights, healers, old warriors, legends, disgraced characters, fallen from grace characters, etc. The more unique the better! Open to non-human/not entirely human characters as well. Give me 8 feet tall people, people with 4 arms, eldritch abominations, animalistic creatures, etc!! Go wild! Iâm definitely open to multi muse for this and fleshing out the world, but to give us a base, we could start with two setting out on an adventure together or stumbling upon one another and travelling together, something like that? Bring some ideas my way and we can brainstorm together!
I have very few limits and am open to dark, heavy topics, violence, gore, etc. I wonât rp underage content or rp out SA scenes though - mentions in backstory are fine, I just donât want to write it. Would love some dark stuff at some points but we can figure that out together and all limits will be respected! I write on discord, advanced literate/novella style (1000-2000 words typically per reply) and of course not every reply has to be super long and Iâm open to doing shorter style side threads if we need a break, but I tend to lose interest in really short replies. Open to smut - most of my characters are switches and I prefer to see what feels natural for our characters and donât rush smut. Open to fading to black and also doing purely platonic dynamics. Open to all pairings - most of my characters tend to be cis amab or nb amab (I do also play trasnmascs, transfems and cis afabs though lol). I love queer dynamics so bring them all my way!! Unconventional dynamics too are awesome!! I love complex, nuanced characters and nuanced, realistic relationships too!! Open to realistic, drawn, animated, and description faceclaims and will probably use a mix myself. This is getting way too long now so Iâll round it out, but like if interested and Iâll reach out. Please be prepared to share some thoughts/preferences and (where I might lose some of you) a writing sample (I can offer one too.) Ty for reading this much<3 đĄïž

non sims interests tag thing, thank you so much for tagging me @grilledcheese-aspiration! tagging my beautiful gf @john-of-liechtenstein and whoever wants to do this
kinda wild since sims especially these days is a near non-entity in my free time haha. under the cut!
GAMING | yeah! that's an obvious one with the operation i'm running here. i've been a lifelong enjoyer of games from the moment dad put me on his lap as a wee babe and played super mario bros on the og gameboy (i do not like mario games sdfjdfsjsfd). it's my favorite medium to experience stories by far. some of my favorite games off the top of my head include the souls series, the elder scrolls (morrowind especially), shadow of the colossus, kingdom come: deliverance, outer wilds, darkest dungeon, and dread delusion
NATURE AND PLANTS | i adore taking in the nature around me, especially flora and houseplants. it's so neat to learn about plants and their life cycle and how they are adapted to their environment. it's inspirational, to be honest! but also admiring the whole of an ecosystem and its history, from the geology to the flora to the many animals that live in a place.
CULTURE | idk how to word it? just learning about different peoples and their ways of life and such. it ties in with history and religion and gastronomy and architecture and all that good stuff. most likely this has something to do with my multicultural background and my family's migratory history
HIKING | prolly a generic one but idgaf!! hiking is great! sadly this is something i get to do very rarely due to the time and preparation needed and added challenge due to being diabetic, but it's fresh on my mind right now. this week i've had the opportunity to go on one of the coolest hikes of my life: the poncebos to bulnes trail in picos de europa, spain. bulnes is a tiny village in the middle of the mountains that has no road access, and up until 2001 the only way to get there was through this trail that takes you through a glacial gorge. fairly challenging, very beautiful.

the biggest problem with skyrim i see people critiquing it not point out isn't just "the writing is shallow"
i mean it is. but a lot of games have overall shallow writing without that being an issue. sometimes you dont need 90 pages of lore for smth. sometimes simple events can spiral out of control into massive problems. the elder scrolls series definitely has a world so complex though that it should have more interesting and detailed writing, but the biggest problem with skyrim isn't that
the problem is video games are not just writing and a setting. there is game play, themes, characters, and often multiple overlapping stories/plot lines in that setting. And all need to work together as cogs in a machine or the whole thing doesn't fucking work right. it's like making a play, and while i almost fucking failed script analysis in college (dont ask), i do understand that, and how different parts of the experience are weighted as a decisions
skyrim is a game that is heavily weighted towards gameplay and exploration of a setting. its primarily a sandbox game. thats all well and good, a lot of my favorite games are. it is a power fantasy that is (supposed to be) about play choice and agency. and almost nothing in the fucking game actually reinforces and works toward it. in fact it often directly contradicts it.
skyrim tries to bring up a number of themes, especially in the main story quest. stuff like morals, power, how to wield power, what actual justice means, and the nature of violence. and it does absolutely fuck all with it. if i as a dragonborn misuse my power at best i will piss off the guards which literally can happen to anyone. most of the time no matter what i do no npc gives a fuck who i am. i can be the thane of every hold in skyrim, most of the population will still be rude assholes to me.
take paarthurnax. we all hate and bemoan the dilemma we are given. either kill dragon grandpa or be locked out of the blades stuff from now on. it seems like such a stupid choice to the point one of the most popular mods is telling delphine "shut up im in charge". but i think, even if its subconscious for most people so they don't even realize it, the reason this choice is so stupid has nothing to do with the fact we like dragon grandpa (or at least not the whole thing), but because the entire empire is built upon horrific war crime after horrific war crime of emperors with dragon souls. tiber septim did absolutely heinous shit on and off the battlefield. he killed innocents. raped. abused. lied. manipulated. and he never really repented, unlike paarthurnax. what does he get? well after a convoluted scheme we learned about back in daggerfall, he gets to be a whole ass fucking god and gets worshipped. there are potentially elves who remember his reign of terror and being ruthlessly slaughtered and removed from their homes, their cities burned and families killed, all out of greed from this motherfucker. and they are the bad guys for opposing his worship. they are portrayed as cartoonishly evil mass murderers, torturers, schemers, etc etc and at no point do we get a genuinely sympathetic take from a thalmor agent where they list out all of his war crimes and horrible shit he did that still effects them to this day, and to top it all off the empire left them to fend for themselves during the fucking oblivion crisis.
so as delphine bemoans all of paarthurnax's war crimes and horrible things he has done, how no amount of repenting can make up for it and he's too dangerous to leave alive and we should kill him Right Now because what if he, even by accident, succumbs to his nature as an Evil Dragon and does horrible things again, she is also actively defending the horrific, much more recent war crimes of other Evil Dragons just in mortal form. if delphine has a point, then so do the thalmor, but they are just cardboard bad guy elf nazis and the empire can do no wrong.
violence is rewarded time and time again, but THESE characters being violent is bad. because. all dragons are evil and able to be corrupted by power, but the player if they decide to be a massive asshole don't really face that much scrutiny besides ultimate gameplay inconvenience. because this is a sandbox power fantasy! you should make your own choices without being punished! but that means the story about power, the cost of violence, justice, and morals, as well as your greater place in the world can have no gameplay weight. and if it has no weight in the most important part of the experience, then it has no fucking weight at all
i could go on and on. like how the dragons are supposedly intelligent creatures with their own language, culture, customs, and morality system but are basically for most of the game about as smart and engaging as the average bear or wolf you encounter on the road outside of 2-3 dragons in heavily scripted, linear conversations during the story, but we'd be here all day.

fantasy & cannibalism
the decision to make wood elves in the elderscrolls (for the most part) cannibals who forgo consuming vegetation is an interesting one, but it begs the question:
how are the bosmer (wood elves) surviving?
the worst fact about cannibalism that everyone except biologists forget is that you will starve to death if you consume nothing but other people.
yes. STARVE.
why? because there's not enough nutritional value in human flesh. We're at the top of the food chain and the nutrients we need to fuel the engine of our bodies and keep it operating have to 1) pass through other creature's metabolisms and what they took from it in the chain of eating, and 2) if what little was left over has been already processed and used by the human body, there's not going to be much to gain from it. Forgive my extremely short and simplistic way of saying the higher up on the food chain a creature is, the less bang for your buck you'll get out of it in general: aka why mass meat production doesn't focus on farming apex predators, but instead creatures that consume low on the food chain, like grazing herbivores.
That's real life. You cannot live off of the flesh of other people, you will die of hunger(if the prions and diseases and other stuff don't get you first). Now, apply that to fantasy.
Moving on to elder scrolls
Bosmer are weird... they practice ritual cannibalism and the whole thing seems more spiritual (hence 'ritual') to tie them back to the essence of the plants that shelter them, rather than an essential part of their diet... maybe. It's a blurry mess. The 'green pact', the practice that forbids them from harming plant-matter means their diets are carnivorous. So...
Does this mean bosmer are obligate carnivores, ie: is their biology adapted so that they rely only on meat to give them sustenance (and thus can't derive it from plantlife or non-animals)?
if it doesn't mean their biology is 100% carnivorous and they are instead omnivores like humans, where are they getting their fibre, vitamin c, other stuff needed from plant-eating? Do they import it from outside valenwood where the green pact doesn't apply? That's extremely shaky ground to keep an entire civilization alive...
if the bosmer are obligate carnivores, and the practice of cannibalism came from pragmatism to not waste a resource they depend on to survive (meat), which seems to be what the lore implies, how are bosmer getting nutritional value from eating other people (aka, animals at the top of the food chain)? Not to mention if reliance on this meat is a common thing (again which the lore implies), how do their bodies deal with prion transmission? Do their bodies resist disease- OHMYGOD. THEY DO RESIST DISEASE, it's in morrowind, oblivion, and eso as one of their species stats.
'the green pact' isn't practiced by all bosmer but what does that mean when it comes to diet other than 'haha not all of us eat our enemies'. Are these bosmer also carnivorous?
i mean the boring answer is probably 'tee hee, they're omnivores, just like humans, duh', which opens up all the issuesâą with the decision to make them so meat and cannibal oriented.
I don't know. there's so much to do here and everything's so vague and wishy washy.
Mostly I'm just frustrated with creators not knowing the one single most interesting and horrifying fact about cannibalism: it doesn't help anything.
#tw#cw#tw cannibalism#cw cannibalism#bosmer#eso#elder scrolls online#i remember way back in 2007/08 playing oblivion and talking to a friend about it#who was like 'yeah i love bosmer they're terrible'#and i was like 'what? why'#and she told me about their lore which i didn't stumble upon or have interest to stumble upon beforehand#and then eso provides more but... just... it's all so nothing#i dunno maybe i just need to go through the valenwood quests and look for more to get confirmation on these things#probably#elves#can you imagine how amazing it would be to have a body that could reject prions?#fffuck#prions are the true terror#fucked up proteins that unmake your building blocks#ramblings#this formed as half a thought and i don't think i finished it#of course you can make it so your magic species of elves are so efficient they can get all they need from other sentient species#especially since it seems they prey on other species rather than just themselves#which means technically it's not cannibalism... still all the hnorror but y'know semantics#i dunno there's just so much that can be done and i'm getting the suspicion eso does none of it#yeah that bit in once piece where zeff survived off autocannibalism? fake. he stayed alive based on magic and dreams and stubbornness

†⏠Staples of My Worship and Practice
Most of my practice surrounds pop culture stuff. I prioritize it. But, I also honor, worship, and work with non-PCP entities, though.
Worship and working alongside are two sides of the same coin.
I celebrate the Wheel of the Year, but from a non-Wiccan perspective.
I use all sorts of oracular tools in my work. Tarot, oracle decks, runes, dice, charms, pendulums, etc.
I practice things like astrology, I'm not very good at it.
I do not follow the Threefold Law.
I believe deeply in animism.
I keep a few physical shrines group-dedicated, and use other methods for personal shrines.
I partake in daily worship.
I perform "entity juggling", where I pick and choose entities based on need, want, or their presence.
I am not Wiccan. I am a chaotic eclectic pagan.

†⏠Some Things to Know
Please inform me if I make a mistake or don't know/understanding something, so I can fix it.
I work with some villains or "evil" entities. I don't blame people who don't.
You can learn more about my pop culture worship on the appropriate blogs. I believe these entities exist outside of their sources and that source is not comparable to infallible canon / holy books.
I don't believe gods are all-powerful or all-knowing. They are capable of mistakes, misunderstandings, and much else.
This blog doesn't talk about more adult aspects of worship, by choice.
I believe the Gods, Heroes, and Saints interact directly with mortals often, so I may often speak of direct interactions I have.
I firmly believe that the Gods, Heroes, and Saints are deeply and utterly multifaceted.
All pronouns I call my spirit guides are given to me by them.
I use the term "work" to refer to my work in my worship and my path with them guiding and supporting me. I don't claim to be co-creating.
The Draconic Path is a messy term that describes many different roads and there's pretty much no historic precendent.
I'm much further religiously than I am magically.
All other blogs can be found on @silly-khajiit's bio post.
