SPIDER-SONA TIME!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image Description: two digital drawings of void-crawler (my spider-sona). the character is drawn five different times throughout the whole canvas. on the top left corner, void-crawler is unmasked, smiling and doing a peace sign. there are two white text boxes representing void’s internal thoughts that read “gotta love hammerspace. how else would my hair fit otherwise?*”. underneath there’s a turquoise text box that reads “*editor’s note: it would not.” in the middle left side of the canvas, void-crawler is shown with a surprised expression and the spidey sense lines. there’s a white bubble text that reads “omg i have squiggly lines!!”. near that drawing, there’s a smaller one with a chibi head of void doing a salute with a turquoise bubble text with a white center reading “of course, officer!”. an arrow points to text saying “talking with hero voice (a.k.a. deeper)”. on the bottom left corner, there’s an unfinished but colored drawing of void-crawler drinking a milkshake with half their mask off and with little hearts on the side. there’s an arrow pointing at the drawing accompanied by text that reads “pretend this is okay [heart emoticon] and finished…” on the right side of the canvas, there’s a full-body drawing of void-crawler. void has a hand near the face in a thinking manner and the other near the hip. to the right, there’s a written text that says “void-crawler!” in all caps. the background is a yellow note-taking paper texture. the second image shows the front and back design with some mannequin models as template. background is white. /end ID]
more info below:
alright guys, let’s do this one last time. my name is mars walker. i was bitten by a radioactive spider. and for the last 2 years, i’ve been the one and only void-crawler. i’m pretty sure y’all know the rest. i saved a bunch of people. got spider-man to be my mentor. did a couple of team-ups with him and deadpool. i saved the city but i… couldn’t save peter. i stopped fighting for a while. changed my suit and hero name. and now i’m back, stronger than ever, wahoo! because no matter how hard life gets, i always find a way to come back and save the city. cuz who else will if not me?
amazing intro proving i’m a hero… check!
whole backstory explained… on hold
hi! finally posted this, i made it like a week ago. anyway, i think i would have some extra powers, as a treat.
first of all, enhanced spidey sense. i don’t only perceive near danger but FUTURE danger as well. basically i get visions, premonitions, prophecies, whatever you wanna call them. they are always about danger and there IS a way to change them. i dont know how that would work with time and space continuum and all those complicated things, but who wants logic, boring!! (i’ll solve the plot hole soon, dw 😭🛐) (if any of y’all have any idea how to solve it, pls tell me)
i would be able to break the 4th wall cuz i constantly do irl anyway,, sometimes life follows a specific storytelling pattern and has very notorious plot armor and that makes me think “huh… weird”
i would also have sensitive senses, and that includes night vision! (i already have sensitive hearing irl and it’s a nightmare! good luck void-crawler). i could also “change” my appearance? i would not physically change it, but i would release some kind of chemicals or stuff that would make people see other thing. this is inspired by the ant mimicry spiders do. spiders DO change physically, but i think mine would be just psychologically. idk, i thought that would be cool :P
the design of my spidey suit is inspired by, spidey of course, but also by deadpool’s suit. cuz i’m obsessed with both of them atm, so had to add that to my story 👍 AND IT WILL MAKE SENSE STORY WISE MUAHAHAHA! cant wait to tell y’all the backstory.
yk that thing miles and gwen do when talking to their dad while in the spidey suit (deeper voice)? well i would do that all the time i’m talking with people that are not aware void-crawler is mars walker. and my bubble text would show that by being mostly turquoise with a bit of white in the center :3

Spider-Man Read-Through 017: Let's get smashed (ASM 116-118)
MASTERPOST
So John Romita Sr. just died. A great artist. I don't need to tell you, by this point.
1973 is here! Now, as I said, I'm very familiar with the few upcoming years. But will I look at them differently? Hmm!!!
The issue recaps what happened last time, and it feels surreal to now see exactly what happened. It's pretty much how I imagined it, except slightly more complicated.
Richard Raleigh is back! Or rather, here. What's up with that?
Well, turns out issues 116-118 re-publish Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine #1 (that special in black and white!) but edit it to fit continuity. In the original print (of ish 116), Stan Lee explains that SSM#1 was published around an election year, and they felt like the new election year was apropos for a lil' lifting, handled script-wise by my baby Gerry Conway, and visuals-vise by John Romita Sr. naturally.
So let's read them!
Tumblr media
Ah, Romita. Your art never disappointed.
Tumblr media
Maybe it's my contemporary look, but this single panel on the right raises so many alarm bells it's hilarious. I've head that kind of words coming from my politicians. *sigh*
The GwenPeter drama continues, and with the recent realization that Romita worked on romances, it all makes a lot of sense.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Man, I'm sure I commented on that back when---
Tumblr media
Yup.
It's very nice to see how much Romita's art improved (more perspectives! And the colors help him a lot too.
You know, as we get on to issue 117, I feel like Conway's writing is easier to understand for me, as-in, not difficult at all, whereas Stan's writing was often annoying to parse due to some expressions. You really see the difference. Of course, Stan wrote the original issue, but Conway pretty clearly rewrote pretty much everything.
Tumblr media
We've got a new masked baddie, and he reminds me of when the Kingpin's son was the antagonist for a bit. I hope we get to see him and his mother again!
Tumblr media
Back to the gentleman's club (with no George Stacy in sight, since he died), Norman is still interesting and Robbie continues to be the MVP.
Tumblr media
Yeah, Pete, things haven't really changed.
...I'm saying that, but actually, it's the opposite in my country now. Presidential candidates are about appealing to the voting majority... that is, old people. That is, people who don't work anymore but support the government's effort to raise the age of pension YES THIS WAS A POLITICAL POST FROM THE START MUAHAHAHA no but seriously. OLD PEOPLE WHO AREN'T GONNA BE AFFECTED BY IT ARE THE ONES MOST SUPPORTING IT. what a bunch of assholes.
anyway.
The multiple references to Peter's ulcer make more sense now too! Forgot about that. Poor baby. (Honey you're about to live through the worst two years of your life, and I will be seated. With popcorn. Actually, I have a coke and crackers. Yes, it's not even noon yet. Who cares. I'm a freelancer. My schedule is random.
Robertson's digging into Raleigh makes him a prime target (as usual), so the Disruptor's about to attack him with the Smasher. But wait... Huh?
In the reader's letters, people are praising Gerry Conway and overall issue 113. Which. Yes. He gets the soap opera. He gets it!!!
In issue 118, Robertson tries his best against the Disruptor, and to be fair, his best is a whole lot. Of course, he isn't fit to fight him, but still!
Tumblr media
As the final battle, rages on, those messages down there interspede, and it's a genius move. It wasn't present in the original and I've got to say, it's excellent. It gives pacing, foreboding, and foreshadows what's about to happen...
The Disruptor says "he won't run off with his tail between his legs like a jackal" and oh boy, did they know about the upcoming villain of the same name? It's a line present in the original, but I can't help but wonder...
Of course, the Disruptor was actually Raleigh all along (it couldn't be anybody else), which makes his behavior kind of wonky, but oh well.
This set of issues is fine, I love me some intrigue, and we get to see the supporting cast, but it lacked something. As to know what, exactly, I'm not sure.
In the letters, Bill Creighton complains that the supporting cast hasn't had much appearances recently (before the previous batch of issues) and Stan reassures him that Conway, as was already seen, is attached to showing more of them. He also teases a bigger part for Harry soon... and laughs maniacally. Muahaha.

Jul 2021 issue of B'sLOG Obey Me translation feat. Lucifer, Mammon, Beelzebub, Belphegor SPECIAL FEATURE Q&A - Desire
Jul 2021 issue of B'sLOG Obey Me translation feat. Lucifer, Mammon, Beelzebub, Belphegor (On sale during May 2021) Ask, And It Shall Be Given You: Is Desire, a Sin? SPECIAL FEATURE Q&A
INTRODUCTION
What the devil recites, lures out the forbidden 'desire' hidden within themselves.
The desires hidden in our hearts - from the trivial things in our daily lives to the sinful things we crave in our struggles - are something that all people have. In this month's special feature, we focus on the 'desires' of the boys.
SPECIAL INTERVIEW WITH DEMONS
The question posed to the demon brothers who rule the famous Seven Deadly Sins: "Is Desire a Sin?" We asked them to delve into their 'desire' from their unique perspective as demons.
①Please answer the following question with regards to the theme: "Is Desire a Sin?" [欲は、罪か?]
(欲 means desire, greed. The translation will use both words depending on context.) MAMMON: Huh? What nonsense are ya talkin' about? What's the point of living if ya don't have greed?
BELPHEGOR: Well, that's not a question you would ask a demon.
BEELZEBUB: Appetite is most important.
BELPHEGOR: Okay, we know that already... whoa, you're dropping cookie crumbs.
BEELZEBUB: Sorry, Belphie. *munch* *munch*
LUCIFER: Demons, angels, and humans should all have some desire. It's a sin to be greedy like Mammon, though.
MAMMON: What are ya talkin'? When did I ever give in to my greed?
LUCIFER: You mean to say, that stack of bills on my desk is just an illusion?
MAMMON: Huh? What do ya mean? I ain't got a clue.
LUCIFER: I'll leave you with a choice, just for you - Be hung or be buried?
MAMMON: EEEK!
BELPHEGOR: It indeed is a sin to be greedy like Mammon.
BEELZEBUB: In other words, appetite is important. *munch* *munch*
②Some people in the human world believe that giving up their desire will make them happier, but what do you demons think about that?
LUCIFER: It depends on what kind of desire it is. If it is out of control beyond reason, it may be happier to let it go.
BELPHEGOR: You know that, Mammon.
MAMMON: I've got it under control. It's Beel who's not in control. He's always eating whatever he wants.
BEELZEBUB: It’s natural to eat when you are hungry.
MAMMON: What's more, desire is what life is all about, isn't it? It's really weird for them to be saying things like "If you let go of desire, you'll be happier..."!
LUCIFER: No matter the species, desire has no limits. But humans don't seem to be as faithful to their desires as demons. And hence we suffer.
BEELZEBUB: Does that mean I have to hold back when food is right in front of me? That's a very hard thing to do.
BELPHEGOR: If it makes you happier to eat, you don't have to hold back. It's okay to have those desires that lead to happiness.
LUCIFER: Desire can be a way of life. As Belphie says, I'd rather have that kind of desire.
MAMMON: That's what I mean! Let there be desire! Even for fellow humans!
LUCIFER: Did you listen to a word I said?
③Can you tell us about an occasion when you felt that the desire within the brothers was well demonstrated?
MAMMON: Lucifer is always the prideful one! He cancelled my dear Goldie, hid her and froze her...
BEELZEBUB: And so is Mammon, always as greedy as he can be. Yesterday, he was caught by a lower level demon.
MAMMON: Oh, that, anyway, there's Levi when he lost a game! He kept mumbling something about how it's unfair, and then he won't let us go back to our rooms until he won!
BEELZEBUB: Right. Then Asmo is... taking selfies everything time. Always says this, "Everyone is waiting for my exclusive shots ♡".
MAMMON: And then there's Satan. You know, when Beel emptied the fridge in the middle of the night. That was the one time where all the preparations for breakfast went out the window. He destroyed the whole kitchen in the heat of the moment... We ended up missing breakfast, and everything's a mess.
BEELZEBUB: That happens, too.
MAMMON: It ain't the norm!
LUCIFER: Belphie is demonstrating it now.
MAMMON: Hm?
BEELZEBUB: Oh?
BELPHEGOR: Zzz...
LUCIFER: We're in the middle of an interview and yet... He's indeed the Avatar of Sloth.
④Do you have a brother, a demon, or an angel that you feel is stronger in desire than you are?
BELPHEGOR: Fwaah... Mm... Wouldn't that be Solomon? I'm sure he's got his eye on making a pact with Lucifer.
MAMMON: That's about right. What do you think, dear Brother?
LUCIFER: It's annoying when he flicks the contract around whenever we meet.
BEELZEBUB: There was a time when he tried to sneak a contract into the Executive Office's documents and inadvertently made him sign it.
LUCIFER: What a fool.
MAMMON: Speaking of desire, do ya think that Luke's inquisitiveness about baking sweets is similar?
BELPHEGOR: Certainly. Even though he doesn't seem to like it, he's asking Satan to teach him the recommended recipe books in the Devildom, and he's asking Barbatos to share some novel ingredients with him.
BEELZEBUB: Luke's sweets are especially delicious. Those are the fruits of his hard work.
MAMMON: Yikes, desire is within these bunch of guys after all!
⑤Please give a message to the fans in the human world who are unable to let go of their desire.
BEELZEBUB: As Belphie mentioned, I think it's okay to have some desire that leads to happiness. Don't think too much about it, and just get along with your desires.
BELPHEGOR: That's right. I should continue my nap from now on because I want to. Fwahh...
MAMMON: Hey, there's still a bit more to go, keep yourself awake.
BELPHEGOR: Mmm...
MAMMON: As they say, desire is exactly the nature of beings. From now on there's no such thing as "If you let go of desire, you'll be happier"! The Great Mammon ain't acknowledging such things! How 'bout ya support me more and more with your moolah? Muahahaha!
LUCIFER: Desire can be both a poison and a medicine. It's just a matter of degree. Don't get swept away by your own desire like some idiot over there.

okie so here’s their first meeting, in this au seulgi is younger than nayeon. just the intro before we get SMUT MUAHAHAHA
————————————————————————————
“Seulgi-ah~” Irene calls lovingly in hopes her tone will convince her hybrid to come out.
She thinks now it would’ve been better if she had told Seulgi a head of time about her meeting with a new hybrid instead of hiding it. Irene never quite understood Seulgi being terrified of other hybrids when she herself was a predator type. Seulgi was a brown bear hybrid, tall like really really tall—which made sense for bears. She stood at 6’3 while Irene was literally a foot smaller than her.
While any other person would be terrified, Irene never was even when she had adopted Seulgi. The reserve she had been living on absolutely adored her and Irene liked to volunteer at hybrids shelters and sanctuaries anything of the sort. But the people who had Seulgi previously were trying to get her back which the reserve wouldn’t allow because they had mistreated the gentle bear very badly.
Scared that these people would somehow find a way to grab Seulgi they had gone to Irene in hopes she could hide her until everything was safe again. In the end Seulgi ended up loving Irene and Irene loved Seulgi so she had graciously adopted her. There were many hybrids such as Seulgi, she was from a rare bunch. Hybrids such as bears, lions, tigers and anything among the apex predator bunch were very hard to take care of due to their diets and other things.
Which is why they had a lot of sanctuaries and reserves—mostly to keep them there until they were old enough to safely go into the world. Usually hybrids like that were companions to high power people or for scientists who studied their species. The biggest risk was them being taken for breeding and hybrid fights. Which is what Irene thinks the people who were trying to get Seulgi back had wanted her for.
Now though, years later Seulgi was now safe with Irene. They lived a calm life despite the fact as big as she was the bear was still terrified of everything. Irene didn’t mind it though. She always made sure to carefully introduce Seulgi to new things which always seemed to work the best. In reality Seulgi was a big baby who just needed some love which Irene loved giving.
“Honey bear come on, I promise she’s a nice little bunny! So is my friend Jeongyeon! She said that her bunny likes watching marvel movies too!” Irene tries but gets no response. “Oh I forgot she also has a switch! You can play super smash together!”
Irene smile herself when she walked into her bedroom seeing Seulgi’s tiny ears twitching meaning that the bear was taking into account what she said. In reality Irene had no idea what game she was talking about but when bringing up try to get their antisocial hybrids to be friends they had tried to find likes between them. The main one being that they both loved switches.
“Really? Does she like Zelda too?” Seulgi only lets her eyes be seen, still weary of Irene.
“From what Jeongyeon told me is that she likes a lot of games, maybe you can bring your switch and show her how to play it if she doesn’t know.” Irene silently celebrates when Seulgi stands up.
“Okay…if I can bring it then I’ll try.”
“Good but you can’t be on it the whole time.”
“Alright.”
————————————————————————————
Getting to Jeongyeon’s house wasn’t as big of a feat as Irene thought it would be. Seulgi was tense but at the mention of this mysterious bunny liking to play games seemed to put a bit of excitement in her nervousness. Irene was prepared for anything the same Jeongyeon was as she texted the woman that they were at the door. Seulgi’s ears were going wild on top of her head—probably picking up the bunny’s scent.
When the door opened Seulgi’s ears went even crazier with their rapid twitching up listening for the other hybrid she was only feet away from. Jeongyeon was gentle introducing herself to Seulgi before apologizing about her bunny Nayeon not being there to greet them since she was a bit hyperactive. What no one was ready for was Nayeon to throw the back door open and scream upon seeing a hybrid twice her size standing next to a woman barely taller than herself.
Poor, poor Seulgi looked like she had lost ten years of her life at the bunny’s sudden scream. Irene didn’t even have time to react before the bear let out her own scream that sounded much like a bear roar and then running from her spot next to Jeongyeon to hide behind Irene as if that would do much. Both women held back laughs at the rough start to their hybrids first meeting. Jeongyeon walked towards Nayeom explain who it was while Irene attempted to calm Seulgi down.
“Seulgi it’s okay! You just startled her a bit, you have to remember you’re really tall.” Irene towards the bear who refused to stop hiding behind her. “Baby come on she won’t hurt you.”
Once Nayeon composed herself she realized quickly that Seulgi was no threat at all—literally like at all. If her pink hoodie with some cartoon dog on the front didn’t say enough then her giraffe printed socks (that didn’t match at all) should only confirm her threat level. Nayeon’s ears drooped upon seeing Seulgi being scared but also im discomfort on how large she was. Carefully she approached Irene, nose twitching catching the bear’s pine scent.
She made sure to stay a good distance away until Irene was finally able to get Seulgi to stand beside her instead of behind her. Nayeon squinted her eyes at the bear taking in her appearance with an intense gaze. The bunny’s foot thumbed rhythmically against the floor w her ears flapping up and down—an indicator to Jeongyeon that she was nervous but thinking of how she wanted to approach the bear.
“Your ears are weird. I like them” Nayeon smiles seeing the way Seulgi reaches up to touch them with blush on her cheeks.
“I dont like them, my right ear has a tear and my other one is floppy sometimes.” Seulgi states shyly.
“I have a patch of hair missing on my left ear! It’s because I when I get anxious I scratch there. Sometimes my ears flop too.”
“Oh…I think your ears are pretty. Can I touch them?”
“Sure.”
Seulgi looks down at Irene who encourages her to step towards the bunny. As gently as she possibly could Seulgi runs her hand up Nayeon’s ear—giggling when it twitches at her touch. Irene melts seeing Seulgi’s tiny tail vibrating under her pants. It’s after she pulls her hand away when Nayeon slowly leans up towards Seulgi’s neck, letting the near know she wanted to take in her scent.
From then on things go better than what Irene had thought. Seulgi warming up uncharacteristically quick to Nayeon. Honestly she couldn’t be happier, happy that the bear was gaining a much deserved friend but to her dismay would turn into more than that very quickly.

Why Both FMAB and FMA03 are good and should be treated as Independent Stories:
I will go on the record of saying that Appreciate and Love FMA as a whole and love both series for what they are. And while it may sound like a broken record saying things like this... there’s still hateful words against those who like one over the other. So, I’m here to make this post addressing that both FMA2003/03 and Brotherhood are great in their own way and should be respected as their own individual stories.
Also warning there will be obvious spoilers.
What I liked about the Original (FMA03/2003) Series:
I watched 03 before delving into Brotherhood, and even before reading the manga. Now, I know Brotherhood and Manga fans are the small minority of the fandom, while 03/2003 fans make up the majority. That being said, many of these people simply can't get used to 03 after watching Brotherhood.
However, for me, I was happy because: A) I got more FMA to watch, and B) The differences in 03/2003 simply made it even more fun to watch, so for it was no trouble getting used to this anime.
But if I were to be specific of what I liked, I’d say I liked the following about FMA03/2003:
Characterization of the Protagonists and all the 'good' guys: The show heavily focuses on the relationship and tragedy of Elric Brothers, and 03/2003 portrays it much better with such a deeper level. The relationship between both brothers is intimate, and it feels like a genuine sibling bond. I also enjoy the fact that the anime shows that even if Ed follows his ideals, he, like any human, can break away from them under severe pressure, which was beautifully shown in the 5th laboratory arc. As for other characters: Scar in this version is a total opposite of his Brotherhood counterpart. He is written realistically in the 2003/03 anime. His absolute hatred for the military is more legit, and he feels morally grey in this anime. Izumi Curtis for me was also portrayed better in this version. Meanwhile, other Characters like Roy, Winry and Alex felt the same to me throughout both versions--so, not much change there.
Worldbuilding: The 2003/03 anime does a fantastic job at portraying the widespread effects of war and politics, Alchemy, etc. and how it has affected the people of the FMA World. For example, in Episode 16, “That Which is Lost”, Ed meet, a guy who had lost his limb while working as a soldier and was reluctant to use an automail prostetic because he wanted to “retain his wound”. Now, this episode itself was more so filler and didn’t really matter to the main plot of the story in itself; however, I feel that it was added to series to portray the depth of the FMA World, and how everyone has different reactions to the events that happened in the 2003/03 anime. Also, many of the events and how they unfold in this anime seem to parallel the middle east, which just makes all this feel realistic and provides some occasional social commentary which is quite nice. I also like how the first few episodes take their time to slowly and, with great subtlety, develop their world.
Thematic Depth: FMA2003/03 is dark, grim and kind of realistic--more so compared to Brotherhood. While, both versions of the anime deal with some important and mature themes, FMA2003/03 takes it to the next level. The 2003/03 series focuses on the Law of Equivalent Exchange, and shows how putting blind trust in it is a terrible thing to do. The show also focuses on how obsession, a denial of reality, and the inability to move on can be a bad thing. Moreover, sometimes life just simply isn't fair, and we should accept it; however, always try to improve what we have. All in all, we have to understand the consequences of our actions. That life is uncertain, and sometimes we don't get everything, and even we pay a price for it. All of these themes mixed in with the meaningful dialogues and the dark tone, made me appreciate this anime. For example, in episode 48, when Roy and Ed talk for the last time, that’s the pivotal point that brings all these themes together.
A Good Start: The Show had a better start than Brotherhood, simply because 1). We have more time with Maes Hughes and Shou Tucker, and 2). The Liore arc. Despite BONES studio and it’s tendency to create anime too early *when the mangaka is barely halfway through their series), they made it work, and, with the material they had, the 2003/03 series was given enough time to bloom. The 2003/03 series was simply immersive and very emotional, especially during The Curtis Arc, as an example.
Soundtrack and The Art Direction: I feel like both are equally good. However, I will go on the record of saying that I don’t think “art style” is what makes a series, nor is it an important factor. It’s nothing more than glorified “eye candy” However, for the sake of argument (especially since the “art style” is the first thing that “03 Stans” mention) I’ll be adding it in here. Both the 2003/03 and Brotherhood series have some amazing and beautiful orchestral OSTs in their respective soundtracks; thus, it added to the immersion of their respective series. In FMA2003/03, the color palette is very unique, sometimes it feels dull but it just suits the dark tone of the series.
All in all, I am impressed by a lot of aspects of the 2003/03 anime series, but as much I love and respect it, there are lot of things this anime messed up and I will note that as well.
The antagonists were... Meh: While I really love and enjoy the direction and depth BONES Studio added to the Homunculi... some of the other antagonists could have been better (or just not added at all imo). For example, Frank Archer... he has no reason being there except for convenient plot device to the point it feels forced. Though, him becoming that weird cyborg always makes me laugh just because of how dumb of a character he became because of it. Speaking of which, him becoming a cyborg was just... weird. It was like the Studio staff were trying to make him “cool” by making him into some crossover of The Terminator and Two-Face from Batman, but it just failed. As for Zolf Kimblee... He is still sadistic and likes making things explode, much like his Brotherhood Counterpart. But... that was it. Other than that, he was just boring. Him and Archer were both just the staple 90s Kids Cartoon Villains; not much to them except “Muahahaha I’m evil”. Now Dante... I’d say that she’s a good villain to an extent. Her as a villain is very subjective within the fandom, depending on who you ask. While I believe that she could have been just as great a villain as Father, her character was rushed and her goals were a bit vague and unexplored. I like how, like with Father, she had ties Hohenheim; however, that backstory and those connections were introduced a little late. So, in the end, she just came across as more of the generic Vindictive Ex-Wife, and just a generic female villain. As for the Homunculi... I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I LOVED their portrayal in 2003/03. They were the “saving grace” of the entire team of the villains within the 2003/03 series. My favorite of the bunch were Lust and Greed--namely Lust, because of her ties with Scar. Envy came at a close second, but only seemed so because of a way to back up Dante as a villain, and the other Homunculi seemed a bit more underdeveloped as characters.
The Plot's quality drops after episode 35- Okay don't get me wrong. The first 35 episodes for me were 100/100. After that? a 60/100. Why? Because everything after that point feels contrived and feels forced. It's as tho, they are trying to do everything they can, even if it doesn't weave in, to make the brother's life miserable. Archer doesn't die and pops up, with his automail? Alphonse is there to be turned into a bomb, and become a philosophers stone. Okay, but why does this feel so forced? Also, can we talk about Nazi Shit? Now, I feel the brothers being separated is the perfect ending to this anime thematically and I have nothing against it, but A Nazi gate? Why? It was so sudden and pointless. It was never foreshadowed. They just showed it to make it as tragic as possible, because they didn't know of any other way to twist the plot, without convenient and totally forced plot devices. Also, How can Dante make Gluttony Mindless? Why is Juliet Douglass's Secret so obvious, when it can be fatal if leaked? Plot- Holes, Also, why are the Homunculli named the way they are? It just doesn't make sense. Also, FMA's Plot has an air of mystery to it, but it doesn't execute properly. I don't hate the end, I just felt disappointed, because the buildup towards it was terrible.
Now, I give a bit of grace concerning how the plot sort of dropped off and felt rushed halfway through, as well as the characters being underdeveloped and rushed. After all, Studio Bones was making up the majority of the material and took it in their own direction. Some factors to all of these cons in FMA2003/03 could be because of the Studio’s lack of a budget to flesh the characters and plot out more. Or, they had created so much additional material for this series that it became overwhelming.
As a writer, I can attest to the fact that “Character Overload” or “Element Overload” can either make or break a series, depending on how you handle it. That being said, there need to be a balance when it comes to these factors.
However, FMA2003/03 ended around 2004-05, So what we got is what we have.
Now, with that out of the way, let’s get on to the analysis of FMA: Brotherhood:
Characters: There isn’t a single character in this version of the series that I can choose as a “favorite”. Because, honestly? I lile them all. They’re all well developed and lovable in their own way, and have their own demension of depth to them. No, they’re not as deep as they aare in FMA2003/03, but from a writer’s perspective, that helps keep a balance with the overall plot of the stories. Now, some minor characters were just outrageous, but not to the level of boring (like 03!Kimblee and Archer), for example...  Darius and Heinkel. There isn’t a vast difference in Brotherhood’s and 2003/03's cast of characters. However, if I had to note a difference, FMA2003/03′s characters were are more on the edge of realistic and Brotherhood’s were just... Loveable. However, that doesn’t mean that one counterpart of a character is better/worse than another. Both are quite memorable in their own way. Of course, in my opinion Brotherhood's villains are just better than 03's villains. Sure, the Homunculi aren’t given as much depth, but, they have redeeming qualities near the end of their time (i.e. Envy, and GreedLing). When Father was first introduced... his character made me think of how Dante started out, and I was worried that his character would end up just as rushed and he would just be the generic cliche Shounen villain. By the Promised Day Arc, however, I was surprised. Yeah, Father was still very shounen-y villain, but still a pretty darn good villain. I feel his backstory, and how he discarded all his human qualities which led to the creation of Homunculi was well put together, and I felt the concept how he created Alchemy in Amestris, while Hohenhime helped build Alkahestry in the east was well put together, and helped build the world of FMA (literally). To put it simply, his character was much more interesting than Dante, because it was fleshed out more. The Homunculi were awesome as well, Lust did her job, Pride and Wrath were simply awesome, GreeLing's development from an anti-villain to anti-hero was exceptionally well written and not the cliche anti-hero, which I can appreciate. Envy is the character you love to hate. And Gluttony and Sloth did their Part as Well. While I enjoyed 03′s portrayal of the homunculi, I felt like they only fleshed out some for that series (i.e. Lust) while others were just left to fall flat. With Brotherhood, all the Homunculi were evenly balanced out in their characters, not too much depth and not too little. Solf Kimblee was still the sadistic baster, but at least his entire personality was more explored this time, and I liked how they portrayed his psyche as an added affect to why he has his views.
Plot: Bortherhood’s plot was more fluid and weaved in seamlessly. As a lover of all things continuity... Brotherhood did it right, and every time I find an analysis of a teeny tiny subtle continuity detail (i.e. Ed’s gash on his forehead that lasts a few episodes), I get a writer-gasm! Sure, there were few plot devices and filler here and there. But the plot in gneeral wasn’t rushed or choppy, nor did it leave any holes in it. The way Brotherhood portrays it’s plot is to keep you as engaged as possible, adding some silly comic relief here and there to balance out the dramatic intensity every so often. Unlike 2003/03 where is was just one depressing and dark element after another, Brotherhood added in the comic relief points not and again to give it’s audience a break. And, that’s what I really appreciate, and think is a great story writing technique. All in all the Brotherhood series is literal binge-watch material
A Great Shounen: Many Shounen anime have their Arcs for the purpose of portraying the progress of a character, and keep introducing new villains; however, depsite this, there is rarely a sense of mystery, intrigue or a moving plot in a Battle Shounen Anime. What Brotherhood did was just that, except make it more digestible (and not super long like Naruto or One Piece), and added a great thematic exploration. For a shounen it was quite deep, the plot structure was more like seinen, and characters were awesome. In a way, we got everything we could in a Shounen anime that only lasted a little over 50 episodes: Depth, plot, characters in a shounen.
Thematic Exploration: Both FMA 2003/03′s and Brotherhood’s themes are the same, but Brotherhood makes it a bit more lighter. All the while, it also manages to raise questions on additional themes: revenge, truth, knowledge, sacrifice, worth of a human life, and many other things.
Soundtrack and Animation: Same as the analysis in the part of FMA 2003/03, and, once again... I will restate that I personally don’t believe that art style is what’s important to a series. It’s nothing more than glorified “eye candy”. However, for the sake of this analysis, I will be adding it in here. While Brotherhood’s art style and animation is more simplistic, it’s much easier to create those dynamic poses and expressions on an animation level. While FMA2003/03 did have it’s dynamic moments, it was mostly only during battle scenes or the really heavy moments in the series. Brotherhood maintains it’s art style through the series and keeps it a balance, so that some scenes aren’t too much animation but also not too little. And, both FMA2003/03′s and Brotherhood’s OST Soundtracks are beautiful orchestral pieces that really add additional effect to a scene that the respective series are trying to portray.
A sense of conclusion: A lot of Shounen Anime get prematurely cancelled, most Seinen end in a bittersweet manner. That’s why FMA2003/03′s ending with the fate of the Elric Bros was a bit more preferable for those who like a more realistic ending. But, I enjoy a story with a more conclusive ending that wraps all the plot points up together without leaving too many holes. Yeah, the “happy ending” of Brotherhood is cliche, but “happy endings” wouldn’t be “happy endings” if they weren’t. Not to mention, those types of endings are rare, because people really don’t want to write them, and, when they do, they’re rarely done well. Ed’s entire charcter arc wrapping up to where he swallows his pride as an Alchemist and gives up his Alchemy to bring his brother back is both wholesome and satisfying, because, through the show, it shows his progression and growth from beginning to end. And, having an arrogant character obsessed with Alchemy give it up and learn to humble himself because of it.. it’s really uplifting.
Now let's talk about the Cons within the Brotherhood series, they aren't a lot, but still, they did affect my experience quite a lot.
Overuse of Comic Relief: While the use is a nice balance to the already dark and dismal atmosphere of the series, it felt a bit overused. So much so that some emotional moments were inconvenienced by the use of that kind of humor. It was a bit much and created dissonance with the tone the scene was trying to portray. Now, it worked more in the Manga, because of the more visual gag of it, but, sometimes the visuals within the manga don’t translate as well to an animated one.
A Rushed First Half: While FMA 2003/03 began “In Media Res” with it’s first episode and then started a “flashback episodic arc” with the next handful of episodes.. Brotherhood just jumped right into it. While, yes, it was a better balance to not have the characters’ depth right at the beginning (slowly revealing it as the show goes on), the first half of Brotherhood was 0-100 through just the first few episodes. To the point it feels like the audience has to catch it’s bearings. But, once you get on the same page, it’s enjoyable from there.
So what’s the Point of this Ted Talk-esq FMA Post?
I’m sick and tired of seeing 03 Stans  and MangaHood Stans fighting each other over just the smallest detail, especially when 03 Stans decided to bring leftist politics into it for no reason.
Personally, I just appreciate the fact that both series exist, ever since I've got in the franchise, it has become a part of my life, and still to this day is part of my life. Sure, I’m forever going to be part of this fandom.. but, I still see the beauty that peeks through the ruins and ashes of destruction now and then. I appreciate both series. Sure, I do prefer Brotherhood more, and get called a “Nazi” just because of it (ironic considering FMA: CoS was the movie sequel to 03... -__- ) , but 03 was excellent as well in it’s own way. It was very involving while FMAB was engaging. Both shows are something which you can learn something from and get attached to.
All in all, comparing both shows is okay, that's what I did here, but having a debate over which one is better isn’t just inherently bad... it’s TOXIC. Both series have their pros and cons, and they’re starkly different from each other. They’re two sides of the same coin. But, most importantly they are extremely important and impactful, so Pls don't have death battles over which one is better, don't say bad things about any fanbase, be respectful, and most importantly watch both and try to appreciate them. Because trust me liking both is a pretty darn good feeling.

[Mind Blind] Trappers
Never have I thought I‘d write something that isn’t my first language (at least not this early), but I just love Mind Blind so much I have to do something to contribute to the fandom. Here’s a fanfiction about Nick and f!Button as a result. Dedicated to @mindblindbard for creating such an amazing game (And I would also like to apologize beforehand for the possible OOC.) Summary: a bit of Snickly, less bit of GrayxButton, and a whole bundle of Button’s monologue. Enjoy!
A small “click” echoes from across the room, taking over the quiet essence that previously engulfed the house. Someone is entering, and with only two people living in this place, it’s not hard to guess who it is by the door. My brother Nick, with a coat on his forearm and slightly disheveled hair, is trying too hard to loosen his tie, as if it would strangle him somehow should he fail. He seems to be in a more solemn mood than usual.
I cautiously edge over the sofa, taking a good look at his face. Dreadriness seems to drag down those poor brows on his forehead. When he notices my gaze, my brother slowly drags his eyes up to meet mine. One brief moment of tortured silence follows, then suddenly his shoulders loosen:
“It was you, wasn’t it?”
I grin, relieved to notice his confrontation sounds more of exasperation (or amusement dare I say) rather than of anger. His eyes crinkle with indulgence as a smile steadily plays on his lips. After all, Nick could never really be angry with me. I mean how could he, with his sweet, loving, adjective-adjective little sister, even if she kind of locked him in an empty room for hours, with no one but her best friend Sally, who happens to have a massive crush on him ever since elementary school.
Oops.
Now, before you all begin to judge, I just want to state that my intention is utterly and undoubtedly pure in heart. It was none other than a wedding vow under a Ferris wheel, with heaps of flowers blooming in the background like July fireworks. Sally is going to wear a lily-white dress, cascading down the curve of her body until it floods the ivory stone pavement. The color matches Nick’s ridiculously flashy suit, which...should not come as a surprise knowing how much of an extra he is; and when the pope finalizes the vow, standing aside a model bridesmaid as I am, I will be SCREAMING on top of my lungs “kiss already!” - or better yet, preparing to kiss alongside them, in the delightful scenario of a double wedding (in which the other spouse is definitely not decided by-the-by).
I admit, being stuck in a closed room is not the most creative way of starting a romance, very much beneath a creator such as myself. But you know what, Nick has always expected me to be innovative, so let’s surprise him with this epitome of cliché shall we? In fact, it can serve as a double trap, an unexpected tactic that could put the opponent off-guard and unprepared and, and…
Alright, screw it. After Rosy’s one hell of a training, I was exhausted, okay? Exhausted and, well... a bit lazy. Still, at this point, might as well just start throwing things aimlessly. I’m sick and tired of waiting for my best friend and my brother to be an item. For all I know, Sally’s feeling has been pretty clear, and I am sure there’s something from Nick’s side, but those doofuses just keep throwing at each other meaningless banter and even insisting on the weird, full-first-name basis. What was that all about?
The squeaky sound from one of the cupboards abruptly cuts through my train of thought. I raise my head, only to find Nick already standing beside the kitchen counter. Even though I did prank him a good deal, he still wants to make sure his sister has good nutrition for the night.
“How did you even get access to that room?” He wonders.
Well my dear brother, you obviously have not made aware of my very resourceful friend Glitch. It only took an avocado toast and some treats (vegan, of course!), made and packed by Nick with love. Never would have thought they could be used against him just like that.
Ouch, feeling a bit guilty here; but a double wedding is awaiting, and I just cannot ignore that call from the future. It is my (self-proclaimed) duty to make such vision a reality.
I may have developed some other questionable methods for Nick to come all the way down from the top floor, such as making Grayson unknowingly lead his best friend into a trap. Now, I’m sure I could get Gray involved in a more volitional manner, with just a few shed of crocodile tears, but as much as I love him (I mean, not literally, ahem!), the guy is a disastrous liar. No doubt Gray would be figured out in the blink of eyes.
I need not say a word, as Nick must have known all about my schemes from my open daisy field of a mind. For a brief moment, his brows creased into contemplation as an unreadable expression sets upon his features. It is one of those times where I wish I could just read his mind.
I would assume he’s questioning my ethicality, which is seriously weird coming from him, but I guess it’s different now that he’s the victim? Regardless, I approach the counter, a cheeky smile plastered on my lips.
“So how was the quality time with Sally? Anything...interesting?”
A faint blush flashes across his cheek, and I don’t need to be a Ment to know what’s going on. It’s no challenging feat to imagine that squishy feeling like marshmallows, blooming in his chest; that thumping sound of heart whenever that person’s image conjured in one’s mind; and that sweet-yet-bitterness when ones almost-but-not-quite touch...
I mentally clear my throat, now is not the time.
Nick seems to be resonating my mental throat clearing as well. Dishes clank as he’s trying so hard to form an intelligible answer.
“W-What do you mean interesting? Nothing’s interesting!” He swings around, almost colliding with the edge of the counter. “Let’s eat, Button!”
“Really, Nick?” I smirk.
It’s rare to see Nick like this, very rare. My brother always likes to pride himself on being the suavest of the suave, yet he’s acting like some hormonal teenage kid with a crush. I smile so hard, it’s a miracle that my cheeks are able to contain it. One toothless, dazzling grin as I try my best not to laugh my arse off in a villainous manner. Thousands of suppressed thoughts loom beneath my subconscious.
Then, they all explode.
“Muahahaha!!”
“So much for all those teasing her before eh?”
♪“Who said, who said “I don’t love her”?”♪
It felt immensely glorious. Waves after waves of thoughts come crashing down at once as my heart is bursting with sheer excitement. My head must have been a hell ground for Nick, which can only be worsened by his Pollard Score of 10. This means he can dissect my crumbling mess of thoughts very clearly, and no doubt that Nick can very well hear all my gloat, teasing, as well as a bunch of old songs to which I so horribly butcher the lyrics just to further torment him.
♪“And you’re never ever ever, gonna fool yourself now”♪
Nick’s face is so red, might as well make some marinara sauce. Immediately, he turns around and bolts to his bedroom, despite knowing how little it can help when my mind is already a full-on broadcaster. For the first time in my life, I am actually grateful for my sucker of mind blindness.
Makes the teasing a whole bundle of fun!
I barely hold my breath as I settle down on my diner seat, making a mental note to wrap Nick’s dish in case he’s done sulking in his room. Still giggling to myself, I muse, today has been a fun day.
**
Glitch stares at the neatly packed lunch box temptingly dangled in front of his eyes. An amused smile plastered on his lips.
“It seems that I’ve been attracting a lot of deals with the Wiseman lately, have I?” He chuckles. “What’s with you and all the locked rooms?”
Nick grins. False innocence imprints on his handsome features while he struggles to contain a devilish satisfaction. Button will be so pissed, knowing her own recent scheme actually inspires the trap that has yet to befall her. How he wishes to see her face when it all comes down.
He may or may not attempt this as payback, but one thing Nick is very certain of.
He is not the only person who wants the best friend - sibling scenario.
_____
I’ve just realized that K is the only one from the main cast who doesn’t make at least a cameo appearance. 😂 Oh well, I do have another idea specifically for them anyway (if I ever manage to write it down =)) ).

Assorted Curufin thoughts
So out of the brothers, he’s one of ones that gets quite a bit of pagetime, especially in more ‘unfolded’/less ‘summarizing’ parts of the narrative, so even if he (and Celegorm) appear mostly as annoying recurring villains there we get quite a bit of detail & description for him, enough to get a good read on the way he talks (somewhat contemptuous, really) or to know - and I love this detail - that he has this characteristic defiant smile/smirk that he’s explicitly noted to do quite often.
Alone the contrast between his & Celegorm’s reaction & approach to stirring up trouble gives you a whole bunch to extrapolate from.
He’s strongly defined by great resemblance & loyalty to another person, someone who specifically doesn’t use the one name that’s entirely his, & even that is referential... but even so we know enough of him to get a sense of his individuality. Beginning with the smirk, Feanor himself seems to go straight from spiteful hissing to muahahaha with little in between. Curufin is subtler, more planned.
A lot of the attributes he’s given clearly serve to further the plot - He’s an accomplished equestrian to Beren gets a chance to look more badass, and he’s a weapon’s collector so he’d be carrying some cool knives that might come in handy later - but those bits still form something of a picture. Horses & weapons collecting seem like more conventionally aristocratic hobbies (whereas Feanor always seemed to have been more concerned with being a scholar or an inventor than Prince stuff) - indeed among the brothers Curufin seems to be one of the more salty ones regarding the loss of their old status, though of course loyalty to Feanor would also go into this. Though it should be noted that they only considered to take over Nargothrond when the silmaril situation arose, and Orodreth truly wasn’t that good a leader. They still stone cold betrayed Finrod, though - though if you asked him, Curufin would probably argue that Finrod betrayed them first by helping Beren or something like this - he probably shared Feanor’s weakness of for-us-or-against-us thinking; He’s somewhat spiteful, too (the brothers didn’t really have anything to gain from the second attack - Curufin in particular made sure to shoot them for good measure as he was riding away)
There seems to be a tendency to see Celegorm as the ‘eviler’ one because he does some things we’d consider line-crossing today but looking at the text itself, Curufin is clearly the mastermind & the designated bad influence,- it’s not that one-sided, though, you get the sense that he kind of hides behind Celegorm who has more of a “stage presence”. He’s got certain draco malfoy vibes.
- Ultimately they were both doing the same plan and it’s largely a distinction between lawful and chaotic evil.
One thing that he does have in common with Feanor, though, is a certain tendency to be half-right; Both probably have the same degree of mild foresight. Feanor made the Silmarils in part because he felt some catastrophe comming and wasn’t exactly wrong about how the Noldor would rip Morgoth a new one and inspire the Valar to follow them in the end; Curufin also gets a few moments like this like when he tells Beren that he won’t get to enjoy his victory for long, or warns Eol that pursuing his ex would end badly for him - but both were missing crucial parts of the picture particularly the ones were they antagonize potential allies and get their butts kicked.
On the other hand, he continued to be a scholar even in Beleriand (maybe that’s part of why he shared a territory with Celegorm, so he’d have time for that) & in particular studied dwarves which were otherwise supposedly somewhat overlooked by elvish scholars. It’s easy to see why if you look at that snippet from right before Thorin first meets Gandalf where it’s mentioned that they take oaths of vengeance and the like very seriously - they’re also noted to have had an approximately human-like tendency of fihting among each other whereas for, say, elves or Hobbits it would generally be rare scandalous thing. “They killed our father and stole our treasure!” would fly as a motivation with few follow-up questions asked.
Though he’s nearly the youngest, he’s practically the mastermind, the schemer, the “crafty one” - the first bit of characterization any of the brothers received back when they were just 1D one-off villains in the Lost Tales, though Maedhros is the nominal leader - though he’s not really the “number two” either, his & Maedhros’ approaches & attitudes are too incongruent for that so the result is a left-hand-fighting-the-right scenario. Both realized that all the realms of Beleriand need to unite if they want a crack at defeating Morgoth. Maedhros was going to do it through diplomacy & decicive action; Curufin, probably thinking that was impossible, was going to bide his time & use subterfuge, which, aside from involving immoral acts in itself, also ends up torpedoing Maedhros’ plan later down the line. This is really an aspect that I’d really like to see explored more tbh, much like his relationship with Maedhros. While Feanor lived & walked around, they were probably the ones that would’ve come into the rooms at his side and got fetched for important secret business - Maedhros because he was the designated heir, and Curufin cause he was Feanor’s professional sucessor of sorts (and the nominal favorite)
In the end though the big irony is that he was always motivated by something external - the oath, the loyalty to Feanor & what he would have wanted... whereas Feanor basically did whatever he wanted & followed only his own mind.
There’s the initial tragedy of Feanor as someone who valued independent thought but due to his shortcomings inadventedly sabotaged his endeavor to instill that value into them; & then Celebrimbor comes much closer to that, ironically, by renouncing his family, though his thoughts on the matter, in the end were probably fairly ambiguous; though he repudiated them as people, he must have admired & envied them professionally & part of why Sauron “got” him is explicitly noted to be that Celebrimbor secretly desired to match up to & surpass his ancestor.

Breakfast
fandom: Undertale multiverse au
first in the series is here. previous here.
characters and pairing: Dream, Killer, Horror, Dust, Nightmare, Dreammare
warnings: cursing, food
word count: 3,235
Summary: Dream and Nightmare make Breakfast, and then talk to his Sans minions for a bit.
“-and  that’s what I’ve been up to since I’ve left.” Dream finished as he continued to whisk up the eggs, having already poured in a bit of milk and spices for the quiche that he and Nightmare were making together for breakfast… Or whatever meal it was going to be, as Dream wasn’t quite sure what time of day it was - in the dark castle that his beloved had built long ago, there were few windows, and none in the kitchen. “Before you ask, yes I’m well aware of the fact that Ink is using my positive aura in order to avoid having to consume as many of his vials as he did before, but at the time I didn’t really have much of a choice. I was convinced that if we did meet again, you’d… Try to trap me again somehow. But we are doing more good than harm, despite the fact that we’re protecting the universes that Error tries to destroy. I still don’t get why we can’t stay and try to improve the lives of the beings who live in them, but Ink has a strict non-interference policy.”
“This Ink is certainly an… Interesting person. I haven’t met this supposed protector of the AUs, however. Then again, as he’s been running around with you since the two of you met, I’m not surprised.” Nightmare responded as he carefully chopped up the vegetables that were going to be going into the quiche - it’s been quite some time since he’s actually cooked, but he’s glad that he remembers. He’s wearing gloves, so as to avoid getting the corrupted goop all over their food - as washing chopped vegetables is a pain. And Dream is ridiculously endearing in an apron. “I figured out how to use portals by… Well I saw you open a portal and created one of my own. I had hoped to follow you into the world that you had fled through… But I had ended up in a rather desolate AU by the name of Horrortale.”
With a small smile, he explained how he’d met Hatchet - who was the Sans of the world and learned of how the monsters suffered from a lack of reliable food. Hatchet had also impressed him as a fighter, and he’d offered the other a deal - serve him loyally in exchange for regular shipments of food - enough to feed the entire underground. He’d given them a three month supply of food to prove his word and Hatchet had been working for him ever since. “And before you ask, yes I am expanding my empire through contacting and either negotiating or taking over low-positivity worlds. I then aid the suffering beings to alleviate some of their suffering in exchange for their loyalty. It works fairly well, although I do occasionally have to deal with an idiotic traitor - who is either taught their place or killed.”
Dream winces a little at his other half’s ruthlessness… But the fact that Nightmare actually has been helping other worlds in his own way causes the positive guardian to perk up a little, his golden eye lights brightening with interest. Oh, Ink wouldn’t like finding that out at all “So you’re doing what you can to help the worlds who need help the most? In exchange for them helping to conquer other worlds through… Potentially violent methods. While I can’t say that I approve of all of your methods… The fact that you’re actually helping those who are suffering is very noble and I… I’d like to help, however I can. I haven’t heard of most of those worlds… Although I suspect that Ink has kept me ignorant of such places because he knows that I would absolutely insist on actually doing something to help the people… Rather than just to allow them to suffer because that’s how their world was created.”
Nightmare smiles and presses a fond kiss to one of Dream’s cheeks as he begins to sweat off the mushrooms and onions, murmuring “I am very happy to hear that, love.” His aura is full of care and warmth.
The positive guardian leans happily into his beloved, feeling whole and at peace in a way that he hasn’t in a very long time. Dream happily kisses one of Nightmare’s cheeks in response as he re-reads the cookbook, trying to remember how to make quiche. He’s been making a lot of pastries- the sweet foods are very popular with the others and he’s able to make them with the ingredients he’s able to get reliably. “Do we have some meat? Like water sausage or something like that in the fridge?”
“We do, but that belongs to Hatchet, and he prefers to be the one to handle the meat. We do have some cheese though.” Nightmare answers honestly, opening the fridge with one of his tendrils and pulling out a block of monster-friendly cheddar cheese. He’s going to explain the… Dietary needs of his minions in careful bits and pieces to his beloved, so as to not overwhelm the other with too much information all at once.
“Sounds good to me! Oh, and I saw the fruit in there… We do have extra pie dough left over and… I’d really like to make a sweet pie as well, since it’ll cook in about the same time.” Dream murmured, looking hopefully at Nightmare - knowing that the other didn’t particularly care for sweets, but wanting to make something with the leftover dough. “I was also thinking that since you do have some cheddar and leftover chives that we could make biscuits to go along with the quiche!”
“Hmmm, alright, that sounds good to me… Though you may want to double the biscuit recipe and make half of them sweet. Both Dusta and Killer have quite a few sweet teeth, and if you want to keep more than a small slice of that pie to enjoy for yourself, you’re going to have to head them off with that.” Nightmare answered after a moment’s thought. “Oh, and your phone is on the charger in my… Our room. I noticed that it was dead before you woke up, so I set in on there for you.”
“Huh, it’d been fully charged before I came over here. Or at least I thought it was. I’ve been meaning to get a new trans-dimensional battery for that thing anyways.” Dream answered with a shrug, his eye lights briefly turning into hearts when Nightmare mentioned that the bedroom that they’d fallen asleep together in was theirs. The positive spirit very much liked the thought of that, and cuddled his beloved happily, purring quietly for a couple of moments as they carefully mixed the components of the quiche together before sliding it into the oven. Making the pie and the two batches of biscuits went by in a pleasant blurr of conversation and occasional kisses.
The two of them set the kitchen table, laying out the food and they’d both sat down - with Dream contentedly sitting in his beloved mate’s lap, leaning forwards to cut a slice of the quiche, when Nightmare asked, amused and warm “You weren’t planning on sitting in a different chair, were you?”
“Nope! Why would I when you’re so much more comfy?” Dream answered back, an unrepentant grin on his face as he snuggled into the other “Unless you’d rather I get up?”
“Absolutely not. You’re trapped here. Muahahaha, please feed me, darling?” the negative guardian answered back as one of his tentacles wrapped itself around Dream’s waist. It was a light enough hold that the other could get free if he wanted, but a silent affirmation that he wanted the other to stay close.
Just then,  sleepy voice called out from the door “Food?” their aura tinged with hope and confusion. A Sans with strange black streaks running down his face peered in at them “Hat-... You’re not Hatchet… And… You’re…” he took a couple of steps back and yelled “HATCHET! DUST! GET THE FUCK OVER HERE, I THINK I’M  HALLUCINATING AGAIN! OR SLEEPING.”
Two more Sanses appeared, and the one with one white eye light, the other blue with a ring of red around it peered into the kitchen, where Dream and Nightmare were currently sitting. Their boss was sighing a little and rubbing his temples - in exactly the way that he did when he thought that they were being pointlessly stupid and trying to refrain from throttling them. The strange blue and gold skeleton who had the balls to yell at and kiss Nightmare was remarkably un-dusted for some reason… And sitting in Boss’s lap. What the actual fuck. There was also an impressive spread of food that looked and smelled incredibly tempting. “Err, do you see boss with that weirdo from yesterday and a bunch of fresh made food, Killer?” The heterochromatic skeleton asked, staring at them in confused shock.
“Oh good. It’s not just me… Unless we’ve both completely lost it. Hatchet, you’re the sane one, what do you see?” The first Sans asked, looking at the Sans with a crack in his skull.
“Same thing you two do. Now, we should probably leave boss and his… Err… Who exactly are you…?” Hatchet asked Dream, not quite looking directly at the positive guardian.
“Oh! I’m Dream, guardian of positivity.” The light spirit answered honestly, nuzzling a little into Nightmare as he grabbed one of the cheddar and chive biscuits and buttered the center of it, taking a bite before offering some to his other half.
“Dream is my other half and mate.” Nightmare explained further. He gestured for the other three to sit and at the food as he spoke again  “If you would like to care to join us for breakfast, we’ve made quiche, biscuits and fruit pie.” He was feeling generous at the moment - besides food was a good way to appeal to all three of them, and he was very curious about how they would interact with Dream. He also wasn’t the slightest bit embarrassed about the fact that they had found him cuddling with his other half. They’d been reunited for less than a day, and he wasn’t going to be letting go of Dream any time in the near future if he could at all help it.
The three of them nodded, and Hatchet grabbed two additional plates and forks, setting them down so that Killer and Dust didn’t fight over who had to get the plates and cutlery. It was strangely peaceful here, and the last thing that Hatchet wanted was for the two idiots to ruin that - particularly as Dream seemed to be a fairly peaceful sort - his initial angry yelling and furiously making out with Nightmare notwithstanding. A discrete Check confirmed his suspicions as he cut a slice of quiche - Dream had almost no LV to speak of. Still, his stats were pretty impressive. “Thanks for the food. It looks amazing.” He took a bite of the (unfortunately meatless) quiche and his eye light brightened up a little, startled at the love and care that he could taste within it. Boss’s and Dream’s magic were both present within the food.
Killer immediately started to gobble up the plain biscuits - slathering them in butter and jam and froze after the taste of the food hit him, before inhaling three more “Holy shit boss! I didn’t know that you could cook this well! And I don’t know whoever you are, but please stay. Haven’t seen boss this happy since… Like never.”
Dream shifted a little and looked down, leaning into Nightmare, guilt hitting him hard “I… I don’t intend on leaving Nightmare’s side, so long as he wants me there.”
Nightmare sent Killer a narrow glare before hugging his other half gently and pressing a light kiss to one of the other’s cheeks, gently tugging Dream’s chin upwards and saying firmly “Dream, I want you to look at me.”
“...” Dream shifted a little in Nightmare’s lap, his eye lights dim and averted before complying “... Yes…?” He whispered, uncertain and still full of guilt.
“That’s enough of that. We’ve both hurt one another in the past… And given how I first reacted after you… Recovered from the stasis spell, I don’t blame you for fleeing. We’ve both made mistakes in the past, darling. But I hope that we can learn and grow with them, together. Alright?” Nightmare answered firmly, his aura filled with care and love.
Dream nodded a little and hid his face in the crook of the other’s neck, overwhelmed by the loving and gentle emotions that he could feel coming from Nightmare. He’d resigned himself to being quietly miserable and desperately searching for a cure to his other half’s corruption - terribly alone while surrounded by people who depended on him to help them while never once realizing that he might need a hand with something. He’d been so quick to abandon the idea that Nightmare… Nightmare might be better off like this, and that they could work things out. “You’re… Too kind to me. Too forgiving.” Dream was desperately fighting tears - the only person he’d ever cried in front of was Nightmare - and only when they were alone. Stars above he was so jumbled up and stunned that his beloved actually seemed to forgive him. He’d do all that he could to prove himself worthy. m
“None of that now, Dream. We can’t undo the mistakes of the past, and you tried to help. You cannot help those who refuse it… Even if they are closest to you.” Nightmare ordered quietly, hugging him tighter as he gently pet the top of Dream’s skull with one of his tentacles.
The positive spirit calmed down after a moment, pressing a light kiss to Nightmare’s teeth and he murmured quietly “Thank you, Moonlight.”
“You’re welcome, Sunshine. Let’s finish breakfast, hmm?” The negative spirit prompted gently, bringing up a forkful of lovingly made quiche so that Dream could take a bite.
Dream nodded and the two of them continued to feed each other, more or less completely lost in one another’s presence- although they did respond when one of the three mortals sharing food with them asked a question to one or both of them directly. Not that the three spoke much.
~
Once Nightmare and Dream had wandered off - being disgustingly in love and adorable at one another - holding hands for stars’ sake! As per the rules, Dust, Killer and Hatchet were the ones cleaning up, since boss and Dream were the ones to make the food. Surprisingly enough, the only things they needed to clean up were the things that were used to serve stuff and the utensils and plates used to eat it. “Okay, so is anyone else really suspicious of goldie? Like if any of us tried to yell at him for even a quarter as long as he did yesterday, we’d be dust. But like - they were full on yelling and I’m pretty sure Boss was trying to grab him at one point yesterday… And now they’re all lovey-dovey and sweet? And then that whole I’m so sad please pay attention to me bit that he pulled at breakfast. The hell was that all about?” Killer hissed as he angrily scrubbed at the dishes - making sure not to use too much force or he’d be forced to go get new dishes. Again.
“Eh… Goldie doesn’t strike me as the type to be overtly manipulative like what you’re implying.” Dust shrugged as he finished wrapping up and putting away the last of the leftover food “Besides, you tasted his magic in the food, same as me. I’ve never met someone more gentle in my entire stars-damned life. Even my Bro had a bit more fire to him than what I could taste from Goldie.”
“He has an LV of one.” Hatchet pointed out as he sanitized and dried the dishes, stacking them neatly on the counter for Dust to put away. “I checked him while we were eating, ‘cause I was curious. He’s got a hundredth of Boss’ stats across the board - except for his LV, which again, is at one. I don’t know what his MP is, I wasn’t going to do a deep check like that in front of Boss without asking first.”
“... How the fuck are they mates? They’re like… Night and day different - and no that wasn’t a fucking pun. I did spot the little sun design on his cape’s claps thing and on the cape itself.” Dust sputtered, his eye lights widening a little bit in shock “There’s no way that Goldie can even begin to deal with the sort of shit that we go through on a daily basis… Man, we’re going to end up on a babysitting roster to make sure that no one accidentally offs him when he’s not around boss, aren’t we?”
“We could spar with him, see if he has any fighting capabilities whatsoever and begin from there… There’s also the definite possibility that he’s got healing magic - which would at least be somewhat useful since none of us can heal jack shit due to our LV. Like even the plain biscuits the two of them made - have you checked how much one of them can heal? That can’t be from boss. It’s ridiculous.” Killer stressed. “I mean - 100 HP and a slight increase to DEF? It’s ridiculous. No wonder boss wanted us to track him down. Sensitive little thing probably got himself stuck in danger and we were going to be the distraction while Boss actually went in and grabbed him or something like that.”
Hatchet hummed noncommittally. He was pretty sure that there was more to Dream than what Killer and Dust seemed to think. Kindness and warmth are not weaknesses to be exploited, and he was pretty sure that Boss wouldn’t go for someone who was genuinely helpless. He’d seen the agility with which Dream had dodged Nightmare’s tentacles - though he had gotten grabbed in the end. It spoke to a bit of steel in the other’s core. The other two continued grumbling about the change that Dream had caused and plans to try to figure out how to fight Dream without boss instantly shutting them down. He offered during a lull in the conversation “You know… You could always just ask boss and Dream if Dream would like to spar with you. Trying to do some sort of sneaky crap doesn’t work and will only annoy Nightmare.”
“Good point, might as well not beat around the bush. Let’s go find them. How dare that smiley interloper get boss to be all mushy and soft. ‘S not fair.” Killer complained under his breath as he stomped out of the kitchen, Dust and Hatchet following close behind. The few smiles or words of praise and encouragement were treasures that each of them guarded and held close in their memories. How Dream was so effortlessly able to get their boss to smile and even laugh so easily was frustrating and confusing. Particularly since Nightmare had only spoken of Dream moments before the other had arrived. Dust was complaining about much the same, and Horror could understand their confusion and jealousy - how the other had managed to so effortlessly capture so much of Nightmare’s positive attention escaped him as well. Hopefully they’d be able to learn more about the both of them while Dream lived here.

For the Character Ask: Raditz.
Send me a character!
Why I like them:
That lost potential dude. He was Goku’s brother, the main character. He appears for a few of the first episodes of Dragon Ball Z. Causes Goku and his enemy (Piccolo) to team up, and is killed only because Goku had to sacrifice himself... and is never mentioned again. what the actual f*ck man
He only appears for almost 2 seconds, as an illusion, 20 years later. 20 years. Real life time.
In Xenoverse 2 he has more character and its just so sad how everyone treats him and he’s just so sad and lonely and he’s almost sweet to you if you’re his student and ugh
Um, also I like his hair and overall design. Vegeta stole his look, man.
Why I don’t:
He’s perfect what are you talking about....
I don’t like him for the same reason I like him. His lost potential.  He never shows up again why god why
Favorite episode:
“The World’s Strongest Team” He was only in 5 episodes wtf
Favorite Season:
One. Because he was only in that one I’m crying oh my god
Can I say favorite scene instead??? Cause its when Gohan is crying and calling him a bully and he just... punches the truck, lifts it with his fist, glares him straight in the eye and  Gohan is like, “My dad can lift that too.”Then Raditz blows it up  and Gohan starts crying again and he’s like “SKKHKHD SHUT UP STOP CRYING” and then tosses him into his pod for timeout
Favorite line:
Most of his lines are generic “muahahaha i’m bad and your brother and you’re gonna fight with me even though you’re weak”
But one line I like, mostly for its delivery, was:
“Quiet, you fool, be strong. You’re one of the brave saiyans too...”
^ He says that to Gohan before putting him in a pod for crying too much but the way he says it like... isn’t mean??? It’s almost nice which... Idk. I’m mad cause Raditz had potential.
Now in Xenoverse 2, he has a bunch of cool/sweet lines. None of which I can pull up. He’s so sad when he talks oh my god
Favorite Outfit:
His original... Its the only thing he wears haha
Otp:
... Raditz/Princess Snake. I have my reasons.
Brotp:
Fanarts made me like Raditz, Turles and Broly hanging out together. Goku and Raditz being actual brothers would be neat too
Headcanon:
Raditz was a secret dork. His attacks are the only ones in the whole series that have names that follow a theme. Double Sunday, Shining Friday, Saturday Crush, Dynamite Monday, Weekend. I’m talking about Gohan’s Great Saiyaman levels of dork.
Unpopular opinion:
Raditz was cool and strong, bro.
A wish:
Can someone mention him once, please? PLEASE??? JUST SAY HE EXISTED. (He’s in the new movie but its brief and he looks like a gremlin and i love him HFJKFHL)
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen:
Don’t bring him back just to kill him off again or make him evil.
5 words to best describe them:
Sad. Asshole. Jerk. Coward. Rad.
My nickname for them:
My son

Hedgehog’s House
A bit of a longer one, and a bit of a more angsty one, showing  a bit more of Jim and Hedgehog’s relationship!
Word count: 1698
Hedgehog’s House
Jim washed dishes in his work clothes as he looked over his shoulder to his daughter. “Hedgehog, you HAVE to think about the opportunity cost of all this! For every hour he’s over and you’re planning, you could be doing something…” He turned off the water and turned to her, leaning on the counter, “Something useful.”
Hedgehog sighed, playing with her fingers as she looked up sheepishly at her father. She knew bringing this up to him was a TERRIBLE idea, she just knew it. “Dad, please? It’ll just be one night,” She began, looking fully at him and straightening in her seat, “And you know Oscar! He’s fun, but not dangerously so! He seems perfect for this kinda of thi-”
Hedgehog’s father hadn’t been listening. Jim cut her off, “Besides, a sleepover? Come on, Hedgehog,” He continued, shaking his head and sighing annoyedly, “Aren’t you too old for that? Don’t kids your age just...hang out?” He asked, crossing his arms.
Hedgehog’s confidence was swiftly knocked down. She shrank into herself and sighed shakily, “N-No! I mean, yeah, we hang out...we’re 13, ‘hanging out’ is the ‘cool’ thing, but I like hanging out with Oscar so much that I want to have him stay the night so we can hang out until late!” She said, putting her two index fingers together. “And you KNOW Oscar! He’s...he’s…”
She was trying to find some things about Oscar that her father would like. Truth be told, she liked Oscar for the fact that he wasn’t anything like her father...in most aspects. Oscar could be aloof at times, and sometimes his impulses lead to trouble. But Hedgehog knew that his good qualities meant nothing to her father.
“He’s quiet enough!” She exclaimed, smiling softly. She thought that would get her father off of her back, but he gave no reaction. She took off her purple hat and held it to her side. “You’re right, dad, this was a bad idea.” She lamented, making her way to the doorway. “I’ll be in my room.”
Jim sighed and rolled his eyes, “Hedgehog?” He beckoned, still leaning pointedly on the countertop. “Come back here.”
Hedgehog turned slowly and sheepishly, not ready for whatever he would say…”Yes, dad?” She held her hat to her chest, her heart slightly racing as she waited for her father’s response.
“Oscar can come over. Not SLEEP. But he can come over.” Jim caved. He knew about his being a jerk, and he knew this might be some sort of chance to...he didn’t know, redeem himself? Maybe to look better in the long run? Maybe he’s just feeling odd. He didn’t know.
Hedgehog didn’t care (at least, not now) of what her father thought of himself. She was beaming. “Yes!” She practically skipped to her room, “I’ll tell him right now! Thanks!” She exclaimed, celebrating this little victory as she closed her door behind her. She got onto her computer and quickly messaged Oscar,
“Good news and bad news, which do you want first?”
“Good new first, Hedgehog! It helps put the bad in perspective.”
“GOOD news is, you can come over tomorrow! But the bad news is you can’t sleep over.”
“Okay! I can let my parents know! How did you convince your dad to let me come over? He has trouble letting you come to me, and I see you all the time!”
“I don’t know! I don’t care! I just can’t wait to see you tomorrow!”
While all the chatter began, Jim couldn’t help but sigh to himself. Climbing out of his work clothes, he sat at his desk and looked out of the window, the same angle as at work, with the same computer and the same look on his face as he stared at cars going by…
“I made a mistake, didn’t I?”
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Oscar hadn’t really ever been inside the house Hedgehog stayed in during the summer. He’d seen the outside of it, though; a typical house for the area, stone walls, black door, very basic kind of design. It’s what it needed to be, which Oscar thought summed up Jim pretty well as he knocked on the door.
When the door opened, it wasn’t Hedgehog who answered. It was Jim. “Oh, Oscar...” Jim stated wryly. He never greeted. He only stated names of whoever was in front of him. “Hedgehog’s been waiting for you, she’s got something going on in there. First one on the right is hers.” Jim made some room in the doorway for Oscar to crawl through.
Oscar simply looked up at Jim as he spoke. “Okay! Thanks for letting me come over, Jim!” He said, moving under Jim’s arm. He moved quickly towards the room as he looked through what he’d brought with him; pencils, paper, and a pair of dice. He knocked on the door to Hedgehog’s room.
“Hi!” Hedgehog greeted Oscar, hugging him and letting him into her room.
“Hi hedgehog! I brought that stuff you said to bring,” Oscar responded in kind, hugging Hedgehog gently and patting her shoulder as he moved to set down his things, “...your room is spotless!”
Hegdehog’s room was a vibrantly calm one. It was pastel, but only the soft pastel powdery blue of the walls really stood out. The soft pink of her carpet was a remnant of the house’s era, as were the windows placed evenly throughout the room: 2 to the east and 2 in the ceiling. Along with that, a few minor things; a stained glass rose hung on one of the windows, a desk with a laptop, and a closet with a poster on it, though of what, Oscar wasn’t sure.
“Oh, it’s not that bad. I guess I could spruce it up if I actually lived here more often,” Hedgehog pondered as she shot her eyes in every direction of the room.  “I don’t know what I would do with the place, though.” Hedgehog shrugged, sitting on the floor. “Now come on, I have a new game idea!”
“Alright,” Oscar sat with her and raised his hands triumphantly in the air, “Hedgehoscar strikes again! Muahahaha!”
Hours passed…
“...Darn it! You burned all my cantans!!” Cursed Hedgehog, snapping her finger in frustration. She handed to Oscar a bunch of little orange and gray balls they’d colored with markers. “Now I gotta draw a trap card.”
Oscar laughed evilly, “Hahaha, better hope this trap card is good! Otherwise you go to the snorkel queen!” Oscar waited with baited breath…
Hedgehog drew the card, and they both looked in shock as their eyes went wide.
“SNORKEL-BE-GONE!”
Hedgehog raised her hands in victory, “Woohoo! I win!” She laughed and took all of the ‘cantans’ and brought them to her side.
Oscar laughed, wiping a tear from his eye, “Oh man, Hedgehog, Snorkelers of Cantan is probably the funniest game we’ve ever made!” he smiled, “I’ll let you keep the board pieces and all that. This one was really fun!”
A knock came on the door and Jim poked his head into the room, “Oscar, it’s-...” Jim’s eyes bulged out of their sockets when he saw the board in the middle of the floor, “WHAT have you been up to?”
Hedgehog knew that look from her father, and that she was in trouble...She stopped Oscar before he spoke, “We were, uhm...we were just making a game...and I thought, hey, since I didn’t use these for anything important, I could use them...here...heh…”
Jim opened the door fully and looked at Hedgehog. “Oscar, your mother is outside.” He said. “I think you should get going. Don’t want to keep her waiting all night. Tell your dad I said hi for me.”
Oscar stared blankly at Jim. He grabbed his things and looked over to Hedgehog, “Hey, this was a lot of fun. I Just want you to know that this was fun. And I think I have some ideas for our next board game!” He smiled weakly at her. “Hedgehoscar will return…?”
Hedgehog looked nervous, but did let her lips tick up a bit as Oscar brought up the company name, “Hedgehoscar will return…” She smiled and waved as he left. But the smile left her face as she heard the clunk of the front door. She looked up at Jim.
“D-dad, I just thought it would be fun to use this stuff! I didn’t know you would be angry about it, I-I can clean it up and I swear I won’t do it again!” She said, getting on her knees and clasping her hands together as if praying to her father…
Jim simply stood in the door and looked at her. This was the part where he usually put a long lecture about how valuable things are and that you should keep what you have on you. The boring and condescending tone.
“Dinner’s in an hour.” And with that, he walked out.
Hedgehog didn’t know why Jim let her off like that. Those were very expensive pens, a whole posterboard, and a good amount of marker ink. And her dad let her off? Not only that, but with a simple ‘dinner in an hour’? DINNER...in an HOUR…? That’s what a parent says when they have NO feelings towards what you just did. And yet she saw the look!
Jim usually didnt know why he did these things either; However, just this once, he knew. He knew why he didn’t yell, why he didn’t tell her off, why he had just given her a lifeless response to her behavior that he deemed ‘inexcusable’. And it wasn’t because, as he had overheard them say, ‘snorkelers of cantan was the best board game ever made’.
It was because he had overheard how much fun Oscar and Hedgehog had. It was fun that he had never had, and he had trouble admitting it. Truth be told, he was jealous of his daughter for having such a good friend. And he wanted to give her the same lifeless childhood he had. And he had just overheard that not only did HIS method not work…
But he’d just been shown the right way by a 13-year-old.
He was dumbstruck.
He was humiliated. And yet he knew it was for the better.

A+ (High School AU!) Prologue
Tumblr media
category: fluff and angst
pairing: eunwoo X reader
note: muahahaha I’ve come up with a series ;) I hope you guys like this, I’ll always update these posts with links to the next chapter and what not <3 ENJOY
“Why are you out alone? It’s raining.” The raindrops hit in the floor in a loud rhythm.
“Shut up Eunwoo.”
“I’m trying to be nice (Y/N).”
“I don’t need your sympathy or friendship, clearly you have a family and home to return to, and what do I have? A bunch of people around me that offer me pity.” Eunwoo grabbed your arm violently after you said that sentence.
“Get the hell away from me!” You yelled, but Eunwoo is stronger.
“Why are you like this? You were just yelling at me a minute ago, but now you’re being nice. Did you just realize how pathetic I am?”
“You’re such an idiot!” Eunwoo screams. You look up at him. His bangs were wet from the rain although there was an umbrella in his backpack. Eunwoo’s face was covered with raindrops but his eyes had their own weather. Every time you gazed at them, they were always in different conditions. Today they matched the weather, rainy and stormed. Clouded with many thoughts that you couldn’t read.
“I know, I’m an idiot!” You screamed back with tears falling down rapidly. For once you were grateful it was raining, so your tears were disguised.
You couldn’t think anymore when Eunwoo suddenly pushed his lips against yours. They were so warm, it made your whole body heat up. What surprised you was the sweet taste on his lips, which was in contrary to his personality. Although it was new, you quickly adapted to it. You kissed him back gingerly.
If you could grade him on his kissing skills, they were definitely an A+

@samanddeaninpanties replied to your post: Jody & Abaddon (for the five people you ship them...
Well! You just gave me an idea for my Jody square: Jody/Donna/Sam/Dean muahahaha. Crap. Why are all my poly bingo squares turning into foursomes and moresomes???? Anyway. There should be BDSM and sexy stuff happening in a club. With lady dommes because WE NEED MORE OF THEM.
Awsome! Not sure how but I'm glad I did! Probably 'cause you like a whole bunch of characters and don't want them left out. (that's my problem at least) Also I am so here for lady doms! More BDSM ladies is truly what the fandom needs.

Chapter 14 Review - Intimacy and evasiveness in equal measure
Thank you so so much for this chapter; you are freaking awesome. At this point, your fic is longer than most PhD thesis. You’re completely bonkers, in the absolute best way. Please never change. Seriously, the level of interactivity in this fic is such fun and thank you for encouraging that. Some of the recent fancasts have been beyond amazing.
Gabi: “the level of interactivity in this fic is such fun” - you mean how I take fifty fucking years to respond to reviews that legitimately make my life!?!?!?!?! THAT LEVEL OF INTERACTIVITY!?!?! LMAO, gurl, can I just say before I dive into any of this that this review literally made me go back and edit some parts, that’s how helpful it was, and yet here I am, answering it an entire CHAPTER LATER!? For some reason the feedback for fourteen was really slow at first and then all of a sudden like 10 giant reviews came in at the same time, and I just took way too long to get around to all of them and kept answering the short ones first (because they take less thought/time), and then once I was done answering the short ones I was drained because I’m weak and wouldn’t survive the winter. BUT HERE I AM. Ten years later. Ready to friggin go. LET’S DO IT.
Firstly, I can’t believe you stopped before the Steroline sex! Rude. I would have been devastated (melodramatic OTT much) had you not given us one of the best SC kisses ever. Honestly, I think I might have sighed a little out loud. And after Stefan’s stupid assed, jealousy mental meltdown, Caroline demonstrates exactly why he has no need to be jealous in one sentence - “Damon could do all those things without it once being intimate.” It’s really obvious that ‘intimate’ is a mental thing for Caroline, I loved watching the switch click in Caroline’s mind from non intimate to intimate. Oh Caroline - you poor silly girl, you’ve got it bad!
Gabi: So, the plus side of answering this once 15 is already up is that I don’t have to feel bad about blue ballsing anyone anymore, muahahaha. Steroline sex is officially up and out there and there’s no taking it back now. Re: 14, though, love alllll of these insights and the particular moments of theirs that you choose to compare and contrast. They’re both stupid levels of in denial here, but the good news is the end of 15 and hopefully the majority of 16 is a bit of a new era for them - one where they actually try, I don’t know, communicating? It’s going to be wild.
The part where they are watching YouTube videos together and eating Caroline’s secret food stash (naughty Caroline keeping treats from the other inmates of 2B - tsk, tsk) was very sweet and surprisingly intimate in it’s own right. I love how they have elements of easy friendship that they don’t even seem to recognise. I’m very interested in how their sexy timez are going to go because they could be hot, sweet or kind of silly/jokey or maybe all three. I think it’s going to get intimate whether Caroline likes it or not; Stefan may even bust out some of his Disney Prince romance vibes. I’m so intrigued as to who their third wheel could be.
Gabi: I really enjoyed writing that scene for exactly that reason - that somehow, these two super awkward people with a bunch of confusion and tension between them keep finding themselves in random moments of easygoing camaraderie, and all it really takes for that to happen is time and/or a distraction. I’m trying to hint at a possible future for them that doesn’t have all of this drama, that’s actually driven by a genuine enjoyment of spending time together and light-hearted banter and a warm hum of affection, but their poor coping/communication skills from their past experiences are just getting in that way of it. And hahaha, re: sexy timez, now you know! Disney Prince romance vibes definitely happened and Caroline, well... had some conflicts with it. As for the silly/jokey thing, I wouldn’t rule that out just yet for future scenes.
I know you are trying to achieve balance between your characters. At this point, I feel I know a lot about Stefan, Bonnie and Caroline, but with Damon, he’s still a mystery.
I both love and hate that we don’t know more.
Love - because I know you are being all clever and writery and keeping it from us on purpose. That having us see Damon through the other characters’ eyes is a clever way of 'revealing’ titbits without revealing them. Even Damon’s internal monologue is super evasive and kind of shallow (compared to Bonnie’s about him which was downright hilarious and completely nuts especially the hitman, Bonnie the world’s most boring mark lmao).
Hate - because I am such an impatient spoiler seeking nut bag, I need to know everything! Look honestly though, if you had told me before this started that I would actually be interested in Damon as a character himself, not as Bonnie’s boyfriend or Stefan’s brother, I would have scoffed at you. See Gabi, this is the power you wield. Use it wisely! Mwah ha ha.
Gabi: SOOO it was definitely still in the typical evasive flashes-of-insight format that Damon’s PoV tends to operate in, but I think 15 hopefully gave you a little more of what you were looking for regarding him? His guard was forcibly down for a bit, and his head went more into his complicated relationship with his mom, and part of the reason why I didn’t tie his panic attack fully up in 15 was because I’m carrying that arc into 16. There’s definitely aftermath, there’s definitely Bonnie the Hufflepuff making him feel unsettling things and think more about his life, and there’s also some Kai/Damon stuff that’ll have echoes of Damon/Tyler. So much more Damon ahead! And GURL, you don’t even know how happy it makes me to hear that re: ‘if you had told me before this started that I would actually be interested in Damon as a character’. That’s like the biggest compliment to me for some reason, like it gets me so hyped, so thanks so, so much for telling me! It’s tough to get people to like characters even when they’re blank slates, so getting someone to actually come around to someone they weren’t about before is like YAAAAAAS.
In all seriousness, Damon didn’t deserve the kicking he got from Stefan in the opening scene. Sorry Stef, that was uncalled for even if Damon did start it. While this scene was all about Stefan’s pov and his reactions, Damon’s evasiveness is totally in character. Even though he’s oh-so-not-bothered, Stefan’s assessment of him has to smart a bit. I hope these two crazy kids work it out. I need my drigh!brotp back together. (Quick aside about Stefan – I hope at some point, he’s going to fess up that it wasn’t about Damon, Bonnie, Caroline or even Elena. It was about his own feelings of insecurity. It’s like Bonnie’s rampage of self-destruction as the person most hurt by this is himself. It’s actually very canon Stefan.)
Gabi: He definitely didn’t deserve it, and I wanted to write it that way because I wanted to show that Stefan, like everyone else in this godforsaken headache of a story, is a flawed character who gives into emotional reactions and insecurity sometimes and acts out. Like I really wanted to make it clear that Stefan was in the wrong there, and I really wanted to do it at Damon’s expense because at the shallowest of glances, Damon would be the guy you’d assume can be asshole sometimes and Stefan would be the guy you’d label as the patient, understanding saint, and 14 chapters in, I really wanted to flip that. As harmlessly trolly as Damon can be to Stefan about Caroline, turns out that Stefan is the one who drew first blood between them, you know? And I think you’re totally right about the oh-so-bothered-but-not-really thing re: Damon - he’s been called terrible things his whole life, so he’s learned how to let them slide off him like butter, but even butter leaves a trail, you know? They definitely add up to a perception he has of himself that’s probably darker/less flattering than it needs to be, and Bonnie absolutely confronts that in 16. She’s kind of like, ‘hey, newsflash dark and twisty, you’re a good guy’. She has a little speech I’ve written out that I really like. Lots of feelsiness coming in 16, man. Including Stefan insights and realizations about insecurity!
I’m still super interested by Damon’s two identities. Are the two different dates of birth significant? Him not mentioning anything after Bonnie fessing up to poking in his wallet - evasive much? So he doesn’t take his Fell ID out normally? I need more details, here, stop trying to kill me.
Gabi: lololol, got a little more of this in 15! I’m not sure how much was obvious from the story because Damon’s thoughts about his past always come out super jagged when I write them (and obviously I know the whole thing ‘cause I’m making it up, lmao), but I think I gave enough to kind of explain why he had that ID on him? Maybe?
Bonnie telling him all about her sex dreams had him speechless and I loved that. Yes, he was very much – that’s ok Bon, sexy daydreams are fine, but I still think there was an element of him being chuffed about it. That was really cute; I liked that his reaction wasn’t to grab her and lay one on her - she did that instead (oh Bon, you saucy minx). I loved their kiss, so hot; I really like their connection, it has a more brutal honesty to it than Steroline’s. By that I mean that Caroline lets Stefan get away with more introspection because that’s what suits her, whereas Damon pushes Bonnie to lay out her soul for him because he really wants someone to do it back to him, deep down. I may be over analysing this and be completely wrong.
Gabi: LMAOOO, ‘you saucy minx’ - she really is. And Damon is all about it. And no, you’re 100% spot on in your analysis of the two ships, assss usual - I think that’s a brilliant way to put it. Damon doesn’t wonder as much about Bonnie because he pushes, in more ways than one, till she gives him answers. He’s confrontational. Blunt. And Bonnie needs that, because her insecurities and problems are so deeply, deeply entrenched into her that they’re basically covered in layers of cement. You can’t slowly uncover that, you need a jack hammer (vs. for Caroline and Stefan, the wounds are still a little too fresh and shallow for a jackhammer to do anything except make it worse. They need the gentle discovery). Damon’s a bit of a paradox in that he’s either 100% blithe and flippant and dgaf, or he’s 100% blunt and real talk, and generally he uses the first mode to evade and the second mode to investigate. Problem is, Bonnie’s a bit of a jackhammer herself, and I think 15 was the beginning of the tide shifting to Damon being the one under the spotlight. And we’ll see how he likes that moving forward. Payback’s a bitch.
Did I detect that Damon might have a slight bird phobia? A dove in your shower is never good, but he seemed more than a little nervous. Also how is his hand doing? Dr Bon needs to follow up her patients better. I am kind of surprised how prompt he was for Kai’s dinner. Does Damon have immaculate time keeping? Or he is genuinely terrified of Kai? I guess I’m kind of struggling to find Kai scary, a bit loopy, somewhat odd, but I was really surprised that Damon would be scared of him (I have blanked out the crossbow in his face episode). We know he can handle himself in a fight (thank you for that Caroline) and he’s survived that gunshot as a child. Damon strikes me as being hard as nails (except around Bon) - Kai should be a cakewalk. Does he recognise something in Kai that he might have experienced in his past? Chapter 15 should be illuminating - I really hope we get plenty from his pov. I can’t wait.
Gabi: You did and it was totally unintentional. I actually went back and read over the way I’d written it after this feedback and totally got the same vibe (it was meant to be humorous but definitely came across as a little deeper than that), so thanks so much for pointing this out! I did a few little edits that I think put forth a more accurate picture of both the bird reaction (annoyance, bafflement, Damon in general being a growly diva) and his immaculate time-keeping (which was definitely supposed to be the focus more so than any actual fear of Kai, which, lmao, I think 15 makes pretty clear doesn’t exist). I think I could maybe argue that getting attacked by a dove in the shower could carry a bit of trauma from his basement-with-rats days, but even so, he’d hide that, so. Edited and more accurate thanks to bomb feedback!
ANYWAY, THIS IS ONCE AGAIN 600 YEARS LATE but oddly, it was kind of fun answering it with 15 already written? In any case, I’m so friggin’ sorry it took me this long to respond, and your feedback, as always, is one of my fave things about writing this fic because it’s always so hilarious and insightful. Thanks so, so much for this review, and hopefully 15 delivered the things you were after and 16 will deliver them even more. LOVE YA, BABE!
