Love. It’s a funny thing. I’ll never understand it. I only know that when it hits you, it hits you hard. Here I am, 25 and still pining over a man who doesn’t want me. You would think that after ten years I would forget about him and move on. It’s hard when he’s your best friend. Anakin Skywalker. I met him my sophomore year, his freshman year. Our moms worked together and became best friends. It was only inevitable that we would too. Every weekend was a movie night at the Skywalker house. Filled with love and laughter. The only times I hated it was when an unwanted visitor came. But I denied the real reason I disliked her.
I told myself it was just because she was too quiet. Not outgoing. Definitely not because she was dating him…. I hated the way he held her in his arms. I eventually began to realize it was because I wished it was me. Any moment I had alone with him was bliss. She didn’t go to our school. They met at summer camp the year before we became friends. So, school, especially choir was a safe place to be with him. He made me laugh like no other. And never changed the way he acted around me when his friends were around.
Now here I am, teaching a class of annoying seventh graders how to sing. Anakin is still in med school. I always admired him for it. He never thought he was smart enough for it. It took my encouragement. We still keep tradition and every Friday night; I go over to his apartment for movie night. When he graduated, he and his girlfriend, Padme, split up. So, for the past 6 years, I’ve never really had to worry about anyone else. He only had a few short relationships throughout the past six years since he graduated. Occasionally his sister joins us for movie night, that’s when we have to watch cheesy hallmark movies. Not that I hate all of them, but I dislike most of them.
I looked down at my desk and saw a text on my phone.
“Just you and me for movie night. Up for Fast and Furious?”
I smiled at the text. My students were currently working on their assignment, so I replied,
“That’s a stupid question, Anakin”. I put my phone down and I sat my chair.
He texted back almost immediately, “so I take that as a yes, y/n?”
I rolled my eyes. “It’s a yes. I’d love to talk more but I have a class to teach. Love ya”
“I’ll say a prayer for those students lol. Love ya.”
I smiled at the last sentence. We’ve been inseparable for ten years. Of course, we love each other. Mine just goes deeper than his. I’ve thought multiple times about telling him. But I just couldn’t. He’s always with someone new when I finally muster up the courage to tell him. And its not like I’ve stayed single. I’m actually with someone right now. He’s amazing in every way. He’s just not Anakin. I looked down at my phone again and realized I had a text from him.
“Hey babe, I’m gong out of town to see my parents for the weekend. I know you’re going to Anakin’s apartment for movie night, so I figured i’d tell you now”.
I feel like such a bitch. At least he’s not jealous of Anakin. My last relationship ended because I refused to stop seeing him.
I texted back, “okay, have fun!” I know I should’ve said more, but I really didn’t care. I saw another text from him but before I could answer it, the bell rang.
“Okay class, that’s homework if you didn’t finish it. Have a great weekend!” All the kids quickly piled out of my classroom. Once I was alone, I read the text from Trey.
“Okay. I will. Be safe on your drive up there.”
“I will.” I replied. I got my things together and walked out to my car. Once I got in, I connected my phone and started blasting love songs. I’m a hopeless romantic. I started driving.
Tumblr media
He lives in the main part of Coruscant. Which is about 45 minutes away from where I live. I spent the drive belting love songs, consciously daydreaming about the life I could have with Anakin.
Once I pull into his driveway, he’s already outside waiting for me.
“Jeez, y/n, took you long enough” he smirks.
“Fuck off, Anakin” I laugh and flip him off. I walk closer to him and give him a hug. It only lasted a couple of seconds, but it felt like hours. His muscular arms wrap around me tightly and contract as we breathe in sync. He smelled like the woods behind his house, where we used to explore. His curly dirty blonde hair that shaped his face brushed against my cheek as he finally pulled away. He stood aside, gesturing for me to enter his apartment.
“Wow, you cleaned!” I teased him as I took off my shoes and sat on his black leather couch.
“Yeah, but not for you. It is my bachelor pad after all” he smirked as he sat down beside me.
“Of course,” I said with an eye roll. I tried not to sound annoyed, but I know I did. Part of my annoyance isn’t even because I want him to myself. Some of it is because he’s not as careful as he should be. He just whores around because his good looks and charm let him. One day, he’s gonna end up being a baby daddy to at least three women. And I know i’d still be around to help him. Always being his best friend. Never the love of his life.
“Pizza should be here soon” Anakin interrupted my thoughts.
“Okay great” I give him a warm smile as he sits down beside me. He pulls out his phone and starts to text someone. I know I should give him his privacy, but I’m a nosey bitch. I discreetly shift my head and side my eyes towards his phone. He’s texting a girl named Aayla. From what I could see, they’ve obviously been hooking up.
“Who’s that?” I asked, letting my jealousy get the better of me. He looks up and smirks.
“Just a girl I’ve been seeing occasionally. Why? You jealous?” He teased. I knew he was teasing but I couldn’t stop my face from turning bright red. Every normal word went out the window. I couldn’t speak. Finally, I shook myself out of it and responded nonchalantly.
“Hell no. I don’t need whatever diseases you’ve contracted from your escapades” I teased. He laughed and playfully rolled his eyes. He put his phone face down on his lap and shifted his body to face me. His black ‘KISS’ tee shirt tightened around his body, outlining his stunning six-pack.
“So, how’s everything with Trey?” His face was calm. His lips pressed into a peaceful smile.
“Everything’s great. We just came up on 4 months together.” I couldn’t think of anything interesting to tell him. As bad as it sounds, my relationship with Trey is vanilla. Nothing daring or exciting.
“Can I ask you something?” He raised his eyebrows slightly.
“Of course,” I smiled.
He paused, thinking of what to say next. “So, I’ve only seen him a few times, but he looks awfully boring. Is he any good in bed?”
My jaw dropped. I started laughing a little. “I guess so. He’s only the second guy I’ve been with. I don’t have much to compare him to”.
“Wait, really?” He looked astonished.
I immediately started blushing. I felt embarrassed. “Um, yeah…”
“How come you never told me?” He looked genuinely hurt that I didn’t tell him I’ve only slept with two men.
“I don’t know. We’ve never really gone into detail about our sex lives”
“Yeah, but I mean, I told you when I lost my virginity at least. You didn’t even tell me that.” He sounded so hurt. And I could see where this was coming from. Besides this one topic, I tell him everything. He looked down at my hands that were fidgeting in my lap. All of a sudden, he grabs them. His big strong hands gripping my smaller ones, with a look of compassion on his face. “y/n, please don’t feel like you have to keep things from me. I’m your best friend. I would never judge you”.
How was I not supposed to melt. I nodded and swallowed, keeping my hands in his. “I lost my virginity when I was nineteen. In college. I was with Maul. I was embarrassed to say anything because you lost yours before me and I felt, different, I guess. After we split, I was scared to do it with anyone else. I’ve only recently slept with Trey.”
Just as he was about to speak, the doorbell rang. We knew it was the pizza, so he went up to get it. Once he got it, he walked into the kitchen. It only took a couple of minutes before he came back in with two plates of pizza. He set the plates down, walked back into the kitchen, and came back with two bottles of ‘Mikes hard lemonade’. He then sat beside me, turning on ‘Fast and Furious’.
Tumblr media
We had gotten through the first three movies before I started to get sleepy. I tried to stay awake for another movie, but I couldn’t. We had talked about various things. Work, school, family, etc.
“I’m sorry, but I better leave. I’m starting to fall asleep.” I yawned tiredly.
His eyes widened. Then he started to look sad. “Wait, why don’t you just stay the weekend? I know you keep clothes in your car, and you said Trey would be at his parents’ house all weekend.”
I smiled. But then I started overthinking. What if I annoy him too much? We’ve never spent a whole weekend together without breaks. Or what if he wants to bring a girl over? I’d just get in the way. “Are you sure? What if you want to put your bachelor pad to use?” I slightly teased. Only slightly because part of me was serious.
He smirked, “Do you really think girls are over here every weekend?”
“From the way you talk about them, yes.”
He started laughing. “No, y/n. I’m really not that big of a man whore.”
I looked down at my hands, “Oh. Well, what about that Aayla girl?”
“Not important. We aren’t exclusive. She’s just something fun. There’s no relationship there. If there was, I would’ve told you, y/n.” He said seriously.
“Okay. I’ll stay. I don’t have pajamas in my car though.”
He smiled, knowing he had won. “I have a shirt and sweats you can wear.”
“Okay. Do you have a pillow for the couch?” I asked with a soft smile on my face.
“Yes. But not for you. You can have my bed. And that’s non-negotiable.”
I rolled my eyes as I stood up. I was too tired to fight. He motioned for me to follow him into his room. I’d only been in there once, and that was when he moved into the apartment. As we walked in, I was hit with the refreshing smell of his light cologne. His bed was in the corner, facing the door when you walk in. Across from his queen-sized bed was a tall, dark wood dresser. He walked over to the dresser and pulled out a gray shirt and black sweatpants.
“Here, they might be a bit big, but you’ll just be sleeping in them.”
“Thank you” I smiled. He set the clothes on his bed before walking closer to me. Once he was close enough, he wrapped his strong arms around me. I hugged him back, breathing in his scent. His head rested on my dirty blonde curls.
“Goodnight, y/n”, he breathed out before pulling away. I sighed and smiled.
“Night, Ani”. With that, he smiled and walked out, shutting his door. I began to remove my clothes and replaced them with his. I was immediately engulfed in his natural woodsy scent. I then crawled into his bed. It was very soft, like laying on a cloud. His black sheets smelled like him. I laid there and started thinking about the future I could have if I just grow a pair and tell him. Eventually, I closed my eyes and drifted off, wishing he was laying beside me.
While I was sleeping, I felt something on my hair. I decided to ignore it. But I can't help but hope it was him. But I won't bring It up.
I woke up to the sound of sizzling. I sat up and admired the way the sun shined on my body through the window above the bed. I tossed my legs over the side of the bed and walked out to the kitchen. I was hit with the smell of bacon, my favorite. I walked further in to see Anakin humming and cooking. He was so focused on breakfast; he didn’t even notice I was awake. So, I started to sing the words of the song he was humming. He quickly turned around with a huge grin on his face. His robe was open, exposing his bare chest. His body was God-like.
“You have such a beautiful voice, y/n/n” he complimented me. Sure, he knew I could sing, but this felt different. I blushed a little before responding.
“Thank you, Ani”. I smiled.
“Did you sleep well?” He asked with his eyebrows slightly raised.
“Yes, I did. Your bed is very comfy” I smiled.
He let out a small chuckle. “I know. So, I deserve a big thank you for letting you sleep in it for this weekend”
I rolled my eyes. “Thank you for letting me sleep in your incredibly comfy bed.”
“You’re welcome.” He turned back around to get our plates ready. Once he was done, he took them to the table and sat down waiting for me. We sat there and ate the eggs and bacon he had made. Then I remembered something.
“Last night, what were you going to say before the pizza got delivered?”
He looked down. He was thinking. “Well, I guess I was just surprised, I guess. It’s hard to believe you’ve only slept with two men.” I looked into his eyes and knitted my eyebrows.
“What do you mean by that?”
“Oh, c’mon y/n/n. Just because we’re best friends, doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate how beautiful you are.” I choked on my water. I coughed for a few minutes before responding.
“Oh. Really?”
He smiled and laughed lightly. “Yes. Really.” I could’ve died right there. Why couldn’t he be mine?
Once we finished eating, I walked into his living room and sat on the couch. I got on my phone to check any missed calls or notifications I might’ve had. All I had was a text from Trey.
“Good morning, beautiful. Missed waking up next to you this morning” I didn’t. I wished it was Anakin.
“Why is he so cheesy?” I heard Anakin ask from beside me. I can’t blame him for being nosey, considering I did the same thing last night.
“I don’t know. It’s not my favorite if I’m being honest” I said with a slight grimace. He laughed before focusing back on his phone. I looked back down at the text and decided to respond.
“Good morning! Don’t miss me too much. Enjoy your time with your parents”. I rolled my eyes as I pressed send. I started scrolling on instagram. I stopped when I saw an engagement post an old friend from High school made. An instant feeling of jealousy and heartbreak came over me. I heard Anakin sigh as he started to speak.
“Oh yeah, I saw that.” He spoke as if it made no difference. It probably doesn’t to him. But to me, I feel behind. I thought I still had time to start all of that. Is 25 too old? He started to speak again when I didn’t say anything. “Hey, what’s wrong?” His voice was soft, like velvet
“Am I wasting my life?” I looked up with tears begging to be released from my eyes.
“What the fuck are you talking about?” He knitted his eyebrows together.
“I though I still had time before starting a family. I thought 25 was still young. But now, Casey is getting married.” I sniffled. The tears finally leaving my eyes. Without saying anything, Anakin pulled me into a hug. Once again, his woodsy smell engulfed my senses and I felt calm. My face was pressed against his bare chest, since he still hadn’t changed. He gently rubbed my back with his hand. After a few minutes, I pulled away to save myself from falling for him even more, if that was possible. He began to speak.
“I don’t think there’s a time limit. You start it when you’re ready.” He smiled softly.
“When did you get so smart?” I teased. He scoffed and playfully put his hand to his chest.
“I am deeply offended y/n.” I pushed him and we started laughing. He paused. “Hey, I have an idea”
“What?”
“Let’s go see my parents. It’ll give us something to do.” He shrugged. I smiled. I hadn’t seen them in a while.
“I love that idea. I just have to get my clothes out of my car and change” I stood up and did just that. I walked back in with my book bag and went into his room and changed. I walked out with my slightly ripped jeans and my favorite ‘Nirvana’ tee-shirt. Anakin smiled and walked into the room to change while I waited. He walked back out in black jeans and a plain gray shirt. Even in the plainest clothes he was ethereal. I grabbed my phone and his as we walked out the door.
On the drive to his parents’ house, we blasted our favorite songs. We belted our hearts out, laughed at the stupid shit he said. My heart fluttered every time he looked at me. The way he says my name. After 20 minutes, we pulled into his parents' driveway. We got out and he rang the doorbell. Their house was white and older. There was a wooded area in their backyard where Anakin, his sister Ashoka, and I would explore and mess around.
When I moved closer to my job, I was sad to be so far away. But when Anakin moved to Coruscant to go to college and Coruscant Medical School, I was elated. We were now only 45 minutes apart instead of an hour. I hadn’t been home in 6 months. My parents haven’t even met Trey. Which is intentional.
After a few seconds, his mom Shmi, opened the door and a huge grin appeared on her face. She then gasped.
“Oh! y/n!! It’s so good to see you!” She pulled me into a tight comforting hug. Anakin rolled his eyes.
“Nice to see you too mom” he teased. I pulled away and smiled. She walked forward and pulled Anakin into a hug as well. Just then, his Step dad, Cliegg, came out and gave me a side hug before hugging Anakin. Shmi finally spoke up.
“Well, come on in! I just made some chili if you’re hungry”. I walked into their house and was hit with the smell of her infamous chili. My mouth immediately started watering. I proceeded to the kitchen and didn’t waste and time on grabbing a bowl. Anakin soon entered behind me and did the same.
Once our bowls were filled, we went into the dining room and sat at the table. His parents joined us, and we began to make some small talk. Shmi smiled and began to speak.
“So, are either of you seeing anyone?” Before I could say anything, Anakin spoke up.
“Well, y/n has a boyfriend. But I’m not seeing anyone right now.” I smiled awkwardly, knowing Shmi would tell my mother. Shmi’s face looked almost sad, as if she wanted me to be single or him to not be.
“Oh, that’s wonderful! What’s his name?” She asked brightly. I looked up from the table and smiled.
“His name is Trey” I said quietly.
“Is that short for anything?” Cliegg spoke up.
“His name is Daniel Jones the third. Because he’s the third, he goes by Trey.”
“Oh, I didn’t know that.” Anakin said almost offended.
“Well, you never asked” I replied. The rest of lunch went well. After a few more hours, we decided to head back home. We hugged his parents goodbye and got back into Anakin’s truck. Once we started driving, Anakin cleared his throat and started to speak.
“Are you mad at me?” He said as if he would start crying if I said yes.
“What? No. Why would I be mad at you?” I asked genuinely.
“I don’t know. You’ve just been distant recently, I guess.” He shrugged, keeping his beautiful blue eyes on the road.
“I’m not trying to be. You’re my best friend, I would never try to distance myself from you.” I sighed. He was right. But I’m only trying to save myself from utter heartbreak.
“Okay. I believe you.” And with that, we stayed silent the rest of the ride home. The only time we spoke was when we stopped at a drive-thru to get food. We ate in the car. Still staying silent. Once we pulled into his driveway, I got out and went straight to his room to change.
In had just finished changing, when Anakin walked in. He just stood there. He didn’t say anything. I spoke up.
“Is everything go-” I was cut short by Anakin when he pressed his lips onto mine. I didn’t even have time to react before he pulled away. His eyes widened.
“I- I’m sorry.” With that, he walked out of his room and shut the door. I wanted to follow him, but I could tell he needed to be alone. I sat on the end of the bed and ran my hands through my hair. I looked down and spoke quietly.
“What the fuck just happened?” I crawled onto the bed and laid down. Did he mean to? Was he fucking with me? Did he want me as much as I want him? No. He couldn’t. It’s been too long for him not to have said anything. I curled into a ball and fell asleep thinking about what just happened.
Tumblr media
The next morning, I woke up ready to talk to Anakin. I changed into leggings and a plain blue shirt. When I walked out, I didn’t see him anywhere. I checked every room until I saw a note on his fridge.
“I went for a drive. I don’t know when I’ll be back. I’m so sorry. I’ll see you next weekend, I hope. - Anakin. I wasn’t angry at him for leaving, surprisingly. I understood. I walked back into his room, grabbed my stuff and left. As I drove back to my apartment, I couldn’t help but start to cry. I cried because I was hurt, confused, frustrated, in love.
When I pulled into the driveway, I sat in my car and cried some more. Eventually, I got out and walked into my apartment complex. I got in the elevator and kept my eyes on the floor so no one could see me cry. When the elevator rang, I walked out and ran down the hallway to get to my door.
I walked in and ran into my room. I crawled into my bed and cried. He kissed me and he regrets it. I was stupid to think that maybe we could be something. I fell asleep with tears still running down my cheeks.
After what was probably a few hours, I heard loud knocking on my door. I got up and opened it. Trey.
“Hey gorgeous” he smiled.
“Hi.” I said quietly. I stood to the side allowing him to come in. I couldn’t stop sniffling, so he turned around with a concerned look.
“What’s wrong, beautiful?” He said softly.
“I just don’t feel good” I lied. I couldn’t tell him that my best friend kissed me, said sorry, then left and I wished he wasn’t sorry. Trey walked over to the couch and sat down. He gestured for me to sit beside him. I did. Once I sat down, he pulled me close to him. I wont lie, Trey is very comforting. He is so sweet and honestly very good looking, but he’s not him. As much as I try to enjoy being with Trey I can't.
I sat there for what felt like another hour, before I got a call. I sat up and answered.
“Hello?” I didn’t recognize the number.
“Hi, this is Coruscant Hospital. Is this y/n y/l/n?” My heart dropped.
“Yes, it is”
“We have Anakin Skywalker here. You were number one on his emergency contact list. He’s in our trauma room right now. He got into a pretty bad accident. I would suggest that you come down and call any other family members”.
I froze. I couldn’t speak. I felt tears running down my cheeks, but I couldn’t make any sound. Finally, I said okay and hung up. I told trey what happened, and I left. I drove as fast as I could without getting pulled over. I sobbed thinking the worst. I called his mom and told her. She immediately tried to calm me down and told me she was on her way.
I pulled into the parking lot and ran in. I told the receptionist his name. She looked him up and told me he was taken into emergency surgery. I sat in the waiting room. His mom eventually came, and I told her. She held me as I cried. We sat in the waiting room for 4 hours. Eventually a doctor came out.
“Are you the family of Anakin Skywalker?”. We both nodded. “He’s out of surgery. He’s in a coma right now. He shouldn’t be asleep for long, but don’t expect him to be awake tonight.”
We nodded. A nurse came and led us to his room. As soon as I saw him, I immediately broke into tears. I pulled a chair up to the side of his bed. I sat down and grabbed his hand. He had a black eye, and his arms were covered in cuts and bruises. He had stitches visible on his chest, before they went under his gown. Shmi grabbed his other hand and gave it a kiss. We sat in silence before she finally spoke.
“He’s so lucky to have you, y/n.” She said softly with a light smile.
“What do you mean?” I asked with utter confusion.
“You bring out the best in him. He trusts you more than anyone. You’d drop anything the moment he asks you to. And you care about him so much. You’ve shed more tears tonight than I think I have in the last 4 years.” She explained.
“Of course, I care about him. He’s my best friend.” She just hummed in response. After an hour or so, another nurse came in.
“Unfortunately, only one of you can stay with him. It’s hospital policy.” I immediately went to stand up when Shmi spoke.
“y/n, stay. You need to. I’ll be back in the morning.” I she said sternly. I didn’t even try to argue with her. She left and I curled up in the chair and slept the best I could.
Tumblr media
The next morning, his mom walked in and woke me up. She had brought me some coffee and a breakfast sandwich. We turned on the television and occasionally had a conversation. I barely let go of his hand.
Shmi left to get some lunch. I stayed. I held his hand with my left hand and used my right to caress his face. I whispered softly.
“Please wake up. I need you. I-I love you. Please Ani.” I begged. I couldn’t help but shed a few tears. All I wanted was to hear his voice.
After a bit, Shmi returned, and we talked some more. Once it got late, she left and went back home. I sat there and cried some more. I needed my best friend. I needed my Ani. All of a sudden, I heard a knock on the door.
“Come in” I said calmly. Trey walked in with some food,
“I got you something to eat. Figured I could sit with you for a bit and then take you home.” He spoke.
I sighed. “Thank you for the food, but I’m staying here. I refuse to leave him.”
“Can I ask you something?” He said softly.
“Sure” I said staring at Anakin’s beautiful face.
“If that was me, would you stay all night, not eat and hold my hand?” He spoke softly, but I could tell he was sad and angry. How could I blame him? But I was tired of lying.
“No.” And I said that with full honesty. “He’s my best friend. We’ve been inseparable for ten years. Why would that change now?” I spoke quietly. Not once taking my eyes off of Anakin.
“You love him. Don’t you?” He questioned. I didn’t know what to say.
“Of course. He’s my best frie-”. He cut me off.
“Cut the shit, y/n. You love him. More than a friend. And I won’t stand in the way.” He said solemnly. He walked out and I didn’t say anything. I just kept my red teary eyes on the love of my life. Whether he felt the same or not, it’s true. I kissed his hand. And for the first time in years, I prayed.
I prayed to God that he wakes up. That I get my best friend back. I turned off the television and the lights. I sat there with only the beeping of the machines. I leaned forward, laid my head on the side of his bed and cried.
After a bit, his nurse came to check his vitals. I watched as she did her job. I could tell she was very meticulous, and I was thankful for that. After she left, I felt the urge to cry again. So, I pulled out my phone and called the only other person who comforts me. My mom. The phone rang for a couple of seconds before she answered.
“Hello?” She said calmly.
“Hey mom” I said, my voice cracking.
“Oh, baby. I heard what happened to Anakin. Shmi told me you haven’t left his side in almost two days.”
“How could I mom? He’s my person, my safe haven. I need him. I love him.” I said hesitantly.
“We all know that. We’re positive he does too. We were just wondering how long it would take before you noticed.” She said with a laugh in her voice. She was always good at seeing the positive in everything.
“Damn. We’re dense. I just called you to calm myself down but I’m getting tired so I’m going to try and sleep.” I said in a calm tone.
“Okay, sweetie. Call me if you need me. Bye.” And she hung up. I set my phone down and leaned forward again so I could keep holding his hand.
I laid my head on his arm and drifted off to sleep.
Tumblr media
I heard talking. I thought it was just nurses until I heard his voice.
“No, don’t wake her. My mom said she barely slept. I want her to get as much sleep as possible.” It was Anakin. I shot my head up. When I did his beautiful ocean blue eyes were on y/e/c ones. I brought my hand up to cover my mouth as I burst into tears. He smiled and brought his hand up to cup my cheek.
“Never mind.” He let out a soft chuckle.
The nurses all walked out and shut the door leaving us alone. I removed my hand and spoke.
“You’re awake!” I exclaimed.
“Am I?” He teased. “y/n, I’m so sorry about what happe-” I cut him off.
“I love you. So much actually.” I blurted out.
“Wait, really?” He knitted his eyebrows
I nodded. “I love you. More than just a friend. I’ve loved you since the day we met. I’ve loved you through every friend, girl, or fight we’ve ever had. I understand if you don’t feel the same way. I just needed to tell you.”
His face calmed and he smiled. His hand grabbed my shirt and pulled me forward. When we were close enough, he pressed his lips on to mine. We kissed passionately for what felt like hours. When we pulled away, he spoke.
“I never thought I’d hear you say that. I only got girlfriends to distract myself from the fact that I loved you. I thought I finally had a chance until you got with Trey. I’ve tried so hard to contain myself, but I couldn’t. I didn’t want you to leave Friday because I couldn’t handle having to wait another week before I saw you again. And at night I came in and kissed your forehead against my better judgement. y/n, I love you more than any word could express.”
I started crying again. He pulled me close to him. I laid on my side with my head to his chest. And I stayed like that for the next three days until he was discharged.
I helped him walk out to my car. Once we got in and I started driving, he put his hand on my thigh. I smiled as I drove us back to his apartment. Once I pulled into his driveway, I got out and helped him get out. We walked into his apartment, and the moment his door was shut, his lips were on mine.
Anakin moved his lips from mine down to my jaw and neck. I let out small moans of pleasure. He moved his hands down and grabbed the hem of my shirt. I raised my arms so he could remove it. Once my shirt was off, we walked into his room. When we got into his room, he began to remove everything except for his boxers. I removed everything but my bra and thong.
“Should we be doing this? You just had surgery 5 days ago” I reminded him.
“Baby, I need exercise to strengthen my heart again. That shard of glass really fucked it up. And what better way to get it working than to do this?” He smirked while he explained. I chose to just nod.
He walked closer to me and caressed every inch of me. He brought his hands around my back and unclipped my bra. I let it slide down my arms as he admired my bare chest.
“You’re so fucking beautiful baby” he grabbed my breasts and began to place kisses on my neck. He pushed me onto his bed and got on top of me. He brought his hands down and removed underwear in one go. I smirked and took my hand and placed it over his boxers, rubbing the impressive bulge. He let out a whimper, which drove me crazy. I pulled down his boxers and widened my eyes. He was huge.
Anakin took his fingers and began to rub my clit. I moaned and threw my head into the pillow. He leaned forward and placed my breast into his mouth.
“That feels so good Ani” I moaned. He began to move his fingers faster around my clit, causing me to squirm. It didn’t take long until he removed his mouth from my nipple and moved his body down.
He spread my legs open, and I felt him sucking on my clit. The feeling was phenomenal. He then started lapping at my pussy like he would die without it. He then took his middle finger and ring finger and began fingering me.
“Oh my god, Anakin. I’m gonna-” I couldn’t even finish my sentence. He let out a dark chuckle before he moved his body up.
I felt the tip of his dick at my entrance. He looked at me and smirked.
“Are you ready baby?” I looked at him and nodded. “Use your words, pretty girl.”
“Fuck, yes I’m ready.” With that, I felt him push his length in me slowly. I threw my head back and moaned loudly. Once I adjusted to his length, he began to thrust into me at a decent pace. He leaned his head down and kissed me deeply while bringing a hand down to rub my clit.
“Ani, go faster” I begged. He began to go faster and felt the knot in my stomach begin to unravel. I let out louder moans until they became incoherent babbles.
“Fuck baby, you feel so good around my cock.” Anakin let out the most glorious whimper I’d ever heard. That was enough to send me into orbit.
“I’m so close” I told him, and he began to thrust faster.
“Fuck baby, me too.” He whined. He kept thrusting faster until I felt my orgasm coming.
“Ani, I’m gonna come.” I moaned. He looked into my eyes and smiled.
“Come with me baby” and with those words I felt my orgasm take over my body as his thrusts began to slow down as he came in me.
“Fuck, y/n” He panted as he pulled out. He bent down and pushed his cum back into my leaking hole, eliciting a moan from my lips.
He got off of me and laid beside me. He then pulled me close to him, so my head was on his chest.
“You have no idea, how long I’ve wanted to do that for.” He confessed and I smiled as I began to trace circles on his chest with my finger.
“Me too” I replied. He leaned his head down and kissed the top of my head.
“I love you, y/n. So much.” He said softly as his hand ran up and down my back.
“I love you too Anakin.” I replied. We laid there, talking. At one point he brought the blanket over us. After a bit, we started to get tired, and it didn’t take long before I fell asleep in his arms. Where I belonged.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had never been a fan of summer. The overwhelming heat, sticky sweat, and endless free time just clashed with you. As soon as summer started, you were already counting down the days until it would end, much preferring winter to it any year.
But, as you sat on the pool chair under an umbrella, you realized that summer might have at least one perk to it. And that was your boyfriend shirtless at the pool.
You had been dubious at the idea of swimming with your boyfriend’s friends when he suggested the idea to you that morning. It was only your second or third time hanging out with them, and you never particularly liked water activities. But all your prior reluctance seemed to have disappeared into thin air the second Gyuvin walked out of the house with iced lemonade in his hands and a very clear absence of any swim top.
You couldn’t help but blush at the sight. Truthfully, the most you had seen was him in a tank top as the weather got warmer. You were always one to take things slowly, and while you knew he worked out and definitely had muscles hiding underneath, you were never in a rush to see them. Maybe because you knew you would get flustered like you were now.
Gyuvin’s eyes searched for yours, as they always did when he was apart from you for any amount of time. His face brightened when he spotted you sitting cross legged on the pool chair, book in your lap, trying your best to look anywhere but him.
“Want some lemonade?” He asked as he walked over, holding a cool glass topped with a pink straw and a paper umbrella. The sun shined straight down on him, doing wonders to warm his skin tone to a rich golden colour, his chest and abdomen catching the warmth of it as well.
He had told himself he wouldn’t get his hopes up about your reaction to him being shirtless. He loved having an effect over you; it boosted his ego. But he didn’t want to be cocky. It was true that he had worked on his chest and abs a little harder specifically for you. Who could blame him for wanting to look nice for his girlfriend? He just wanted to match up to how pretty you were.
He didn’t miss the way you were avoiding eye contact, or the flush that was taking over your face. Now that he saw how shy you were, he couldn’t help the grin that spread to his face. You took the lemonade from him and used it as a distraction, although you snuck another peak at his stomach when he handed you the glass.
“The boys want to do a relay race. I’ll be back once I win!” He said cheerfully, leaning over your chair to give you a kiss on the forehead.
You let out a sigh of relief when he turned away from you, so sure you were going to completely melt into a puddle under his stare if he looked at you for even a second longer. Watching him from a distance was infinitely easier on your racing heart.
The boys did several rounds of relay races, and then started to play catch with some pool toys. You just watched them with a smile on your face. They were having fun, and you loved to hear your boyfriend’s laugh. He was on a team with Jiwoong, Yujin, and Ricky for a game of pool volleyball, and somehow, miraculously, they won against the others.
You saw Gyuvin cheer, hugging Ricky in celebration. It was cute how hard they celebrated just for winning a game of pool volleyball. Gyuvin then turned to you, grinning as your eyes met. You smiled at him and he beckoned you over to him, meeting you at the side of the pool.
You dipped your feet into the water, sitting on the poolside as the other boys got out to dry off. Gyuvin swam over to you, still somehow taller than you despite standing much lower in the water.
“Did you see I got the winning point?” He laughed, pushing his hair back off of his forehead as he got to the edge of the pool.
“I saw! It was a super close game.” You smiled as he wrapped your legs around his waist, closing the little distance between you two. “You know, you distracted me from my book.” You draped your arms around his bare shoulders, not minding how they were still wet from the water.
He started to smile, “Oh? How so, baby?” He teased, already knowing where this was going.
“How am I supposed to focus on anything when you’re shirtless?” It was hard to even say it in front of him, the sight of his smirk widening making you blush. You would’ve run away from his teasing if you could, but he had you trapped, hands securely on your waist, keeping you close to him.
“Eye's up here, idiot.” His eyes twinkled as he lifted a hand to your cheek, feeling how warm it was. You couldn’t even think of a suitable defense to save yourself from the embarrassment given how your brain was short-circuiting. Not that Gyuvin gave you any time to respond regardless, much more focused on capturing your lips with his.
Seeing you shy only made him bolder, confidence bubbling in his chest more than it ever had before. Your blush was already the most adorable sight Gyuvin had ever seen, but to know it appeared because of him made his heart warm in his chest.
Summer’s biggest perk was definitely this. Shy giggles, flushed cheeks, and warm kisses shared in the pool with your (shirtless) boyfriend.

The weekend. For many it was a time to rest and recharge before another Monday inevitably rolled around. For Jujutsu Sorcerers, however, it seemed like the work never ended. It was nearing the end of summer, so cursed spirit outbreaks had slowed. And today, for the first Saturday in months, you didn’t have a mission assigned.
No classes either; you were blissfully asleep in bed. The sun filters gently through your curtains, casting a warm glow across the room. Alarms skipped for the day so you lounge under your cozy blankets. You scroll your phone, looking through Shoko’s newest Instagram post. She always took the best photos.
Through your mindless scrolling, a sound interrupts the peaceful silence.
Knock knock.
You look up at the door wondering if you were just imagining it.
Knock knock
“(Y/N)!! Hey open up~”
You groan as the voice from the door booms through the quiet dorm. You stretch your tired limbs shivering as your feet hit the cold wood floor. As the door creaks open you see your needy best friend leaning his lanky body against your doorframe.
“The hell are you up so early for, Satoru?”
“Early? (Y/N) it’s 12.”
You nod, eyes closing again. You leave him at the door walking back to your bed. As you plop yourself down you feel his presence looming over you.
“C'mon! I have a stack of pancakes with your name on it.” he whines pulling the covers off your body. Before you can even react you feel the space next to you sink. Satoru climbs into bed with you, taking a dramatic sigh.
“What are you doing?”
“Taking a nap until you wake up.” He replies turning onto his side with a satisfied grin.
You squint one eye open to look at the man now sharing your bed, just inches away was his face. His snow-white eyelashes and hair tousled against the pillow. And his smell… a light hint of sandalwood tingles your senses.
A man.
In your bed…
Your heart skipped a beat as you took in the sight of him, his blue eyes sparkling with mischief as he watched you.
A rush of warmth spread across your cheeks, your mind racing. You were suddenly very aware of the proximity, the heat radiating from his body, and the way his breath lightly brushed your skin. You tried to act nonchalant, but the fluttering in your stomach betrayed you.
All at once every single muscle in your body tensed up. You'd tried to suppress the fluttering feelings you had for your best friend, but his presence so close, so intimate, made it impossible to ignore.  Satoru—ever the observant friend—opens his azure blue eyes to check on you.
“(Y/N)? Everything okay?” He says scootching closer to you. You catch another whiff of his delicious cologne.
Shit.
“Mhmm!” You lie right through your teeth, backing away from his closing-in figure.
He takes a moment to process, wracking his brain for what could possibly be bothering you. The shit-eating grin that appears on his face is all you need to know he’s figured it out.
“Oh, come on, (Y/N),” he teased, leaning in so close you could feel his breath on your cheek. “I can’t possibly be the first guy to grace your bed… or am I?”
“Shutup shutup shutup.”
His hearty laughter fills your dorm room, how unfortunate for Suguru that he couldn’t be the first one in your bed. And how adorable you are all flustered.
You cover your face with your hands, peeking at your best friend between your fingers. You let out a sigh of defeat.
“Okay fine, let's just go.”
Satoru always had a sweet tooth, for as long as you can remember. The only one who could really keep up with his appetite was you. Long after Suguru and Shoko would bow out, you and Satoru were asking for seconds and thirds. So of course he took you to his favorite spot, a cozy little cafe so you could load up on a stack of pancakes.
“These crepes are SO goood~” your friend practically moans in his chair, taking a concerningly large bite of his strawberry and Nutella crepe. You can’t help but smile at his goofy, exaggerated reactions. You dig into your pancakes stacked high with a mountain of whipped cream. He looks at you with a smile.
“So..” Satoru cuts another portion. “Heard you might be promoted soon~”
You nodded, shoveling pancake into your mouth. “Yeah, soon to be second grade.”
He hummed thoughtfully, taking another bite of his crepe. “Just be careful okay? Don’t try to do too much.”
You roll your eyes letting out a huff, you knew he was probably just trying to be a good friend, but you hated feeling underestimated.
“I’m strong too Satoru.”
“I know THAT..” He trails off, moving his crepe around with the fork. “I worry about you guys, s’all.”
You took another bite, feeling his gaze on you. His eyes flickered to the corner of your mouth, where a bit of cream had gathered. With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Satoru’s hand moved slowly, almost deliberately, to your face.
He brushed his fingertips lightly against your lips, his touch sending a shiver down your spine. His fingers were warm and gentle as they wiped away the cream. The brief contact felt electric, making your heart race. Satoru's gaze lingered on your lips, his expression a mixture of playful curiosity and something more intense.
He brought his finger to his mouth, blue eyes never leaving yours as he tasted the cream.
“You really are adorable.”
“SHUT UP.”
With bellies full of sweets, you and your best friend resorted to your favorite pass time.
People watching.
Well more accurately people judging.
“Why is it that girls always end up dating such creatures.” Satoru fake retches as you two see a pretty woman with a… questionable-looking man.
“It’s gotta be money right? He’s loaded.” You add with a smirk.
“Yeah either his wallet or his—Owww!”
Satoru whined in pain as his side is attacked by your elbow. You shoot him a playful glare before turning you attention back to the street. An old lady was crossing the street, her movements slow and deliberate.
“Whadya think she was like in her prime?” The white-haired sorcerer shoots you a sidelong glance.
She struts, clutching her purse, her ears adorned with dainty pearl earrings and on her neck a sparkling necklace. She walks with a grace and refinement you could only wish to acquire in your life.
“Probably had men fighting over her~” You swoon, imagining the elegance of her younger days. Satoru’s gaze lingered on you, unable to hide the smile tugging at the corners of his lips as you daydreamed about something that was, quite literally, happening under your nose.
His attention snaps to two middle schoolers walking side by side, a girl and guy. The guy lags behind the girl, poking and stepping on the back of her shoes.
“What about them?” Your gaze travels to the two kids.
“Just boys being idiots as per usual…” You sigh leaning back against the park bench. The sun was almost past the trees, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple.
“I think he likes her.” Satoru hummed thoughtfully.
“Hmm? What makes you say that?”
He paused for a moment, his eyes scanning the gentle sway of the leaves in the breeze, the birds drifting effortlessly through the air. Anything other than your face. If he looked at you now, all the feelings he had been hiding would come rushing out. You noticed his reluctance to meet your gaze and wondered about the shift in his demeanor.
“I… have good eyes.” Is all he says before pushing his glasses up on his bridge. A pout forms on his soft pink lips, betraying his unease.
“Hey… (Y/N)?” His voice almost as quiet as the breeze.
“What is it Satoru?” You look over in concern.
“Do you… like being friends with me?” A hint of vulnerability graces the normally carefree teen's voice.
“Where’s this coming from?”
“I..” He trails off, still avoiding your gaze. “I know I can be a lot sometimes..”
Satoru always had something to say (even when you didn’t want him too). Whether a poorly timed joke, which always ended up making you laugh or just a comment which you had to remind him “time and place satoru” but you always secretly agreed with. This side of him, which was obviously meant to be hidden away from you was on full display right next to you on the park bench. He never seemed to be one to care about what others thought about him, but the reality was he ONLY cared what you thought.
“Satoru..” You reassure, resting a hand on his thigh.
“You ‘nd Suguru are all I’ve got.” He chimes in softly.
“And we aren’t going anywhere Toru.” You smile.
Satoru sighs, finally looking over at you, and when your eyes meet he feels an unusual pang in his chest. What started off as just another plot to get under Suguru’s skin evolved into something more at that moment. He wanted nothing more than to see you smile, over and over again.
A faint blush creeps onto his cheeks, he turns away quickly, Letting out an exaggerated yawn.
“It’s late! Isn’t it late? Let’s go back to Jujutsu High.” He speaks quickly standing up.
As you walk side by side down the evening-lit street, you look up at the sky, soft gradients of twilight blue and lavender merge seamlessly. Wispy clouds drifted like delicate brushstrokes across the horizon, their edges softly glowing with the last whispers of sunset.
Satoru is uncharacteristically quiet his mind swirling with thoughts he hadn’t fully acknowledged before. You steal a glance at him, wondering what was occupying his thoughts.
“You know I can feel you looking at me~” He hums, a smirk forming on his lips.
“Yeah yeah you and your freaky eyes” You tease, sticking your tongue out at your taller friend. The sound of your feet on the sidewalk, and the crickets chirping fill the silence.
“Hey Toru?”
“Hmm?” He says looking at you through his shades.
“Thank you for today.” You chirp, bumping your shoulder into his. He pretends you moved him, knowing full well you couldn’t. A warmth spreads across his chest at your words.
“Y-Yeah.. No worries.” he mumbled trying to keep his voice steady.
Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer at jujutsu high knew that this curse you inadvertently placed on him, was going to be a hard one to exorcise. He also knew.. that he had to be the one to win your heart, no matter what.

dad!rafe taking his girls on a daddy daughters date 🥹😭😭😭
stop i love them😭😭😭
it would happen because you have been so stressed recently. maybe it’s that time of the month, plus dealing with all three girls during the summer while Rafe is at work. maybe he had a work trip for a few days so you were alone with them with no breaks or help, so you ended up snapping at Rafe when he got back home from the trip and he- being the ever so attentive husband and dad- immediately jumped into action.
luckily, he took the next day off of work so that he’d be able to catch up from his work trip. so by 6 am, he was up, went for a run, came back and made breakfast just in time for Summer to wake up at 8:30, then Charlotte and Vivienne to be up at 9. by 9:30, all the girls were eating breakfast and giggling about something Rafe can’t decipher between their slight baby talk and giggles. you’re downstairs by 9:30 too, because you can hear the girls waking up and you’ve grown accustomed to waking up with them so you take the time while they’re distracted to do Vivienne and Charlottes hair in pigtails with two little matching bows each.
Rafe tells you about the day he’s planned for him and the girls, and he extends the invite to you, but also encourages you to take some time for yourself so you decide to stay home.
he takes all 3 girls to lunch first, while listening to all their babbling and giggling attentively and lovingly. then he takes them to walk around town and look at shops, letting them pick out something from one store each. they each end up with three bags (somehow?)
they also find a bracelet that their momma would love, so of course, they had to get it. then Rafe surprises them with a trip to the splash pad in town, grabbing their swimsuits from the bag he packed this morning and changing all three of them in the car like a champ. when they all get to the splash pad, he dutifully applies sunscreen, much to Charlotte’s dismay, while Vivienne tries to explain to her how important sunscreen is and if Summer could get out of the carrier she’s in, she’d already be in the water, and she is making it known. by screaming in Rafe’s face.
multiple people during the day have asked where his “much needed boy” is, which makes him cringe internally, because he definitely doesn’t need a boy with how much love he gets from being the girls’ dad.
after he gets all the girls settled, he lets the older two go play while he sets Summer down so she can splash around and giggle like she always does when she’s in the water.
*
for dinner, Rafe takes the girls to their favorite pizza restaurant in town, although, by now, the girls are worn out, so it’s much quieter than their noisy lunch they had out. and they all kinda miss momma right now. however, Rafe took this time to explain to the girls how important it is that momma takes breaks and why they should never be afraid to tell him or momma if they need a break. they may not completely understand it right now, but he wants them to know that they’ve been supported since they were born.
when they get home, the girls are all asleep in the back of his truck, and you’re asleep, after a relaxing day of tanning by the pool, meeting a friend for dinner at the country club, having a nice bath, and getting an early night.
he carefully transports each girl to their bedrooms before showering and crawling into bed to focus on his first favorite girl.

ꜱᴜᴍᴍᴇʀ ᴄᴀᴍᴘ - ᴍᴀᴛᴛ ꜱᴛᴜʀɴɪᴏʟᴏ
part 2 (part 1 here)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you and your best-friend matt, have decided to sign up to be a summer camp counsellor for your school's summer project! will you two stay as just friends? or will this summer turn out different for you guys.
a/n: theres going to be smut in the next part, hope you guys like this, read part 1 first, linked at the top! fuck danielle
contains: swearing, fighting (physical at some points), kissing/making out
—------------╚══ ❀•°❀°•❀ ══╝------------——
abrubtly matt pulls away, he saw me. his face drops as dani stares at me. my heart thumps as i freeze. matt tries to walk over to me, but its too late, i've already took off in the other direction.
i've found myself in the empty staff bathrooms, hiding in the stalls. matthew wasted my time, i spent half the fucking roadtrip up here comforting him, then he goes and makes out with her a few hours later?
i can't even understand why im feeling like this, why am i so.. jealous?
the door to the bathrooms swing open, probably matt, coming to explain himself.
"hey, come out of the stall please." a female voice calls out, "who's this sorry?" i say, still on the verge of tears.
"danielle."
my breath hitches in my throat, before i swallow hard. "oh." i mumble, unlocking my stall. im met with her face, shes still wearing the same outfit she was wearing while kissing my best friend.
she suddenly interupts my thoughts, "look, i don't know who the fuck you think you are? but don't go snooping into me and matts personal business, unfortunately hes mine." she says while crossing her arms, i scoff.
"funny you say that, because the whole car ride up here matt's been dreading seeing you, his exact words were, 'fucking hate her' so if i were you i'd back away hm?" i say in a 'sympathetic' tone.
she clenches her fist, running her spare hand through her dark brown bob before smashing her fist into the side of my face.
"what the actual fuck!" i yell before jumping at her, throwing her to the floor. the next 5 minutes are a blur of screaming, punching, hair pulling before she gets pulled off of me.
its jessie, the owner of the fucking camp.
she looks pissed.
(15 minutes later)
ive been sitting alone in the nurses office for 10 minutes, its now 11:30pm, i have to be awake in 7 hours for breakfast setup.
the door to the room im in swings open.
its matthew.
"y/n, are you okay? i heard what happened" he says frantically, sititng down on the chair beside the medical bed.
"oh please matt, dont act like you care." i mutter out.
"what?" he says cluelessly.
"look, go find out how danielles doing, oh! or you could fuck her while your there, go back to your cabin with her!" i yell, matts eyes widen as he looks at me.
"we aren't sharing a cabin, im with lincoln, shes with paige." he mumbles as he fidgets with his hands.
i laugh out of disbelief before standing up, pushing past him out of the room im in before swinging open the door to the nurses office.
the cold night air hits my fresh wounds as i approach my cabin, the lights are on inside meaning Xavier is still awake. i swing open the door, xaviers face drops "babe what the fuck happened!" he says, running up to me and hugging me, "danielle happened." i sniff as he lets me go.
"you gotta get some rest, we're helping the kids do kayaking tomorrow okay? gotta be up at 6:30." he whispers, as he pulls the covers down on my bed, letting me crawl in.
(6:30am the next day.)
a loud honk blares through the campsite, before jessie on the megaphone starts "shark counsellers! the shark kids are lined up outside the breakfast hall, go help out in the kitchen"
i groan, my face still throbbing from dani's punches. xaivers sits up in the bed opposite me, "you feeling better.." he says, his voice raspy.
i nod, "mhm, not too excited about dealing with about 25 nine year olds." i mumble getting out of bed "you'll be right, theres 6 of us to control them we'll do it." he says optimistically.
i finish up getting changed, tying my hair into two braids. "you coming?" i say, looking at xaiver over my shoulder.
the hall is only a few hundred meters away from the staff cabins, which is now filled with 200 children. matt and lincoln are walking through the doors, dani and paige follow close behind them, too close for my liking.
i step inside, the smell of oatmeal fills my nose as i look around, theres countless tables filled with friend groups, in the back corner matts sitting alone on the last empty table, picking at his dry toast. i sigh loudly before walking over to him, he looks up at me, his eyes are puffy and red, he looks upset.
i sit down opposite him, his breathing picks up before he starts unannouced,
"dani and i.. have hated eachother since middle school. when i saw you get into your cabin with xavier i got fucking jealous. hate to admit it but i did. while i was walking towards my cabin dani approached me, she started touching up on my arms before pulling me off the path into the bushes. she kissed me, i don't know why i kissed her back, i think it was a jealousy thing, i wanted to get back at you?"
he sighs loudly as silence grows.
"look y/n, i really like you, and-" hes cut off by jessie on her fucking megaphone.
"helloooo campers! this is the first official day of summer camp and here are what each group is doing today!, crabs are doing rock climbing, which means it is mandatory to wear closed toe shoes. Sharks will be doing kayaking, please wear your swimsuit and your counsellers will take you down to the lake!"
i barely take in what jessie says, the only thing i'm thinking about is matt's previous sentence
look y/n i really like you.
look y/n i really like you.
(20 minutes later)
we've been sitting by the lake for a few minutes now, watching the kids attempt to kayak, im wearing a triangle white bikini with daisys printed on it, matt's sitting to my left, his eyes have been on me the whole time.
abrubtly he stands up, looking down at me. "come with me." he demands "huh?"
i stand up anyway, he takes my hand and starts to walk towards a shed, he opens the door and switches on the light. the dim warm lighting fills the room, revealing piles of wetsuits and life jackets.
he turns around and closes the door to the shed, locking it behind him.
he looks me in my eyes, his eyes dart down to my lips. "can i kiss you." matt asks, barely audible.
i gulp before nodding my head.
matt's hand holds my cheek gently before connecting his lips with mine. after a few seconds it turns into a makeout, his veiny hand holding my hair.
he pulls away slowly as his phone lights up, he scrolls through it before letting out a soft laugh "no way" he scoffs, rubbing his eyes.
"tonight were sleeping in the kids hall, like me and you, supervising.."
"you're kidding matt"
"nope, apparently theres a small cabin that connects off the kids hall, its got 1 bed that we share" he laughs
my cheeks flush, sharing a bed with matt, after this?..

***Notes: I am so sorry this is so late, you don’t understand how this chapter nearly ended me. I also had no intention of making it this long. Broken record, right? Want to say a big THANK YOU to @sttudnobright for commenting on my poll, because it was their comment that made me finally realize how to frame this chapter. Tagging @imaginarydreams since they asked to be kept updated. Also, reminder to check the rating for this chapter.
Chapter 6: Jumbled
You
When you opened your eyes again you were in your bed, fire going steadily across from you, lighting up the entirety of the cave. You didn’t remember leaving that much kindling on it, but decided you must have. At least it was warm. You let out a whining groan as you attempted to stretch your body. Your arms went above your head, your back arching, toes extending before curling a few times. Your body hurt so much.
Your left shoulder blade felt as if someone had clubbed you, your thighs not faring much better. They felt tight, vice-like. You swayed your hips slightly, hearing a pop in your right joint that relieved a fraction of the tension. You brought your arms back down from where they had been resting above your head, seeing your wrapped hands. Thankfully, you hadn’t bled through the cloth, but the skin underneath felt hot. You didn’t want to think about what it looked like.
Memory flooded back to you then; the library, the boar, the leap of faith off of the horse, and then falling asleep on the way back. This caused you to bolt upright, realizing you were in fact in your bed and not riding on a horse. As you did, the large figure that had been silently sitting next to you, watching your every move, sprung to their feet. You jerked away from them, a scream dying in the back of your throat when you realized who it was.
“Noa.” You gasped, hand coming up to clutch at your too dry throat. “What are you doing here? How did you get in?”
Noa appraised you a moment, eyes trailing up and down your form so methodically you felt naked. You fought the urge to bring your blanket up, knowing you were still wearing the same clothes you had on before. Speaking of which, your bed was dirty now that your outside clothes had touched it. That was probably the least of your worries though, remembering how your jacket had completely lost its backing. Though summer was approaching, spring was holding on with a vengeance at night when the sun went down.
Noa, apparently done with his study of you, handed you your canteen. You took it gratefully, saying a quick thank you as you drank. He chose to speak then, “Watching over you…could not wake you when we arrived…had to have Anaya…help move your rock.”
That frightened you, turning towards your entry way to see the rock moved to its normal open position. You swallowed thickly, “You two were able to open it?”
“Was not easy.” Noa replied, walking towards where your fire was going, and bringing something back wrapped in a large leaf. “Took much time…difficult to open…but not impossible.”
You noticed as he carefully handed you the leaf, that Noa’s eyes went distant, as if he was remembering something from a long time ago. Distracted by the new object in your hand, you unwrapped it to find fresh salmon. That explained the extra kindling, he must have just finished cooking it…you could still see steam rising from the ends. You were surprised how well the leaf insulated against the heat. Leaning over, you reached for the dagger under your pillow, slicing slits into the cooked fish to release the heat. You tore and picked at the edges of it, only then realizing how hungry you really were.
Noa eyed you warily, watching as you used the dagger to cut into the meat. You were too hungry to act shy about the weapon, shoving a huge chunk of meat into your mouth using the blade as a type of spoon. You swallowed quickly, waving the dagger in the air before explaining, “In case something else ever gets in. Last line of defense. It’s better to be safe than sorry, but I’ve never had to use it before.”
Noa grunted, apparently willing to leave it there. You took another bite, eyes trailing back over to your entry. The day you met the trio, Noa was able to budge the rock slightly, just by himself. You had marveled at his power, never fearing he would ever be able to break in from the outside, regardless of his strength. A part of you was grateful that they were able to get it open, giving your body time to rest in bed and wake up comfortably. Still, you felt uneasy at the thought that only two apes had been enough to pry open your sense of safety.
As if hearing your thoughts, Noa added, “Almost gave up…several times…in the beginning could barely…find it…then together could barley…move it at all….Soona suggested taking you back…to village for the night.”
The hairs on the back of your neck stood up, eyes widening, and stomach dropping. You shook your head, “No. No, that would have been a very bad decision.”
Noa scoffed, “Anaya said…same thing…do not see why…would have been there with you…as I am now.”
Before you could say anything else, Noa was in front of you again, handing you an apple. The oddness of him feeding you struck you then, taking it from him but setting it down next to you. You weren’t done with your fish, but your appetite had suddenly vanished. You carefully moved the leaf and its contents off to the side, freeing up your lap so you could swing your legs over the side of your bed. You braced your hands on the edge, leaning forward slightly, attempting to take inconspicuous deep breaths.
Of course, Noa noticed something was wrong. He crouched to be eye level with you, something you noticed he always seemed to be doing. Anaya and Soona would move freely, but if Noa was speaking to you he would be sure to be on your level, or at least mirror your body language. You tried to avoid his gaze, that feeling of being exposed returning as he commented, “You should…eat more…no food since sunrise.”
You shook your head, “I’m not that hungry anymore.”
“Rest then?” Noa asked. “Can sleep…will stand watch.”
“Maybe later,” you mumbled.
Noa’s eyes scanned your face, fighting to catch your gaze. That in itself must have been telling, as he said slowly, “You…are…upset?”
You were suddenly hot, pulling your arms a little too roughly out of the sleeves of your ruined jacket. You held it in your hand, thumb rubbing at the shredded ends of the back. You didn’t think there was any chance of mending it, wondering if there was a way to repurpose it. For now, it did keep your arms covered at least.
You looked up then, seeing Noa’s expression shift from concerned to sorrowful. You weren’t sure if it was due to your silence or your tattered jacket. You tried to put some life into your voice, softly but kindly explaining, “You don’t have to stay, Noa. I’ll be alright.”
“Want to…stay.” Noa replied, shaking his head.
“Why?” You asked, a self deprecating chuckle leaving you as you ran a hand through your hair.
Noa didn’t hesitate, “Worried…about you.”
You didn’t say anything to that. He probably had good reason to worry about you…at times like this you worried about yourself too. Usually you were fine, but then there were days where you would feel the reality of your life crash into you and panic over the situation you found yourself in. It happened the day after meeting Noa, all the ways things could have gone wrong if he was a different ape, how things could still go wrong. God…just the thought of waking up, not knowing where you were, potentially surrounded by other apes, had your stomach turning.
So lost in your own thoughts, you didn’t notice Noa raise his hand up, his thumb attempting to brush over the mark he had placed on your forehead. You flinched back out of instinct. He did the same, snatching his hand away and tilting his head at you. You forced your muscles to relax, mumbling, “Sorry, didn’t mean to do that.”
“You..do not like…being touched.” Noa paused, it wasn’t a question. “Then…sometimes you do…why?”
That was one of the questions you didn’t want to answer, knowing there were things you would have to explain that Noa might not understand. There were also things that he wouldn’t like if you explained them to him. Today had been an eventful day, you were not only emotionally exhausted, but physically as well. You wanted to trust Noa, tell him everything you kept trapped and secret in your mind, but you didn’t know if you could trust yourself. It was all too heavy, it would crush you under its weight. He didn’t push though, patiently waiting for your response. You almost smiled, knowing he would probably wait all night for you if he needed to.
Not thinking too much on the action itself, you pushed yourself from your bed, lowering your body onto the ground to be closer to…well, Noa. As much as you hated to admit it, there was something about him that brought you comfort. If you were in your normal mindset you might question that further, but for now, you wanted the comfort of his closeness. His eyes widened a fraction, letting out a small hum as he shifted from his haunches to a seated position on the floor as well. His legs were spread out in front of him, yours were bent at the knee, feet feeling the cool stone beneath you as you rested your hands on your knees. If your foot moved an inch or two to the right it would be touching Noa’s, and you had to shake that thought from your head.
Your fingers tapped out a rhythm, trying to distract yourself as you admitted, “I mainly flinch out of fear. I don’t really mean to, but I’ve been alone for so long now that…usually if something is touching me, it’s not a good thing.”
“Fear…” Noa repeated, mulling over you or answer. “Why…are you afraid…of apes?”
“Apes can be dangerous,” you replied honestly.
“When?” He asked.
Your brows furred, “What do you mean?”
“When did it…happen,” Noa clarified. “When…were apes dangerous…to you?”
“I -I didn’t say-” you started, but Noa cut you off.
“Fear does not happen…for no reason,” he huffed. “When did apes…make you afraid?”
You hesitated, throat feeling tight again “ Years ago.”
Noa leaned in closer, tone softening, “What happened?”
Well, this was it. The thing you swore you would never speak about again for as long as you lived. You didn’t have to answer, but you had come this far, and not explaining this to Noa meant that he would never understand your fear. It might even drive a wedge further between you two at some point in the future. Today already took an emotional toll on you, so how much worse could this be?
“I…I told you I lived in a vault once, right?” You stammered.
Noa hummed.
You took a deep breath then, “There was a virus- which I’m not sure if you know about. It took away the ability for humans to speak, made us really sick. Sometimes…it even killed us.”
Noa nodded, “Know…about it.”
You swallowed, “It didn’t effect most of us in the vault….I think before I was born the ones in there were immune to it. I was-was tested when I was born, and I was allowed to go outside with my parents whenever I wanted. For m-most of my life everyone came and went as they pleased, living in nature, even farming. This…apocalyptic world our scientists were always talking about, didn’t seem so bad at the t-time. I had freedom, a family, and f-friends. I lived a happy life.”
“How old…were you?” Noa clarified, “When…it happened.”
“S…seventeen.” You mumbled, pinching your eyes closed for a moment and running a hand through your hair. It had only gotten longer, and you reminded yourself then that you should cut it soon. “I wasn’t…wasn’t even considered an adult yet. I never in my wildest nightmares imagined that I could lose everyone I…it happened so fast.”
“Where are family…friends…now?” Noa asked.
You took in a breath, “Hopefully, they’re all dead.”
Noa visibly reacted to this, “Why…would you hope…for that?”
“Because the humans the gorillas didn’t kill outright,” you gritted through your teeth. “Are the ones they decided to keep as pets.”
“Gorillas…killed?” Noa didn’t seem shocked, but it still seemed like a hard concept for him to understand.
You felt a shiver run up your spine, and you forced your body not to show it as memories assaulted your mind in response to the question. You couldn’t speak, choosing instead to jerk your head once in a single nod.
“What is…pet?” Noa asked, raising his left hand in a closed fist, before making a back and forth motion with his right hand over top of it. “Not pet like…this?”
“No,” you shook your head, teeth clenching. “Not like that at all.”
You had to take a moment to swallow the anger, knowing this was a genuine question. Noa was not the one you were angry with, he was the one who was here after you got hurt. He was the one who made sure you didn’t fall off the horse. He was the one that never harmed you no matter how easy it would have been to do so. He was the one listening to you, the one who was worried about you. He cared about you.
With your emotions in check, you explained, “A pet is an animal humans would domest- tame…an animal humans would tame to keep with them. We would give them names, and put collars around their necks so others knew who they belonged to. We fed them, and gave them shelter in exchange for their loyalty and companionship.”
Noa was hesitant, but admitted, “Does not sound…bad…we raise Eagles…very similar…we wear their feathers and…have names for them to…tell apart.”
You shook your head, “It’s not the same. The clan and the eagles are the same, equal. I’ve even heard Anaya refer to Eagle Sun as your older brother.”
Noa huffed at that, looking away a moment before asking, “How is it…different then?”
“First of all,” you started. “For humans, a pet was treated as something under us. We cared for them, loved them, but they were not our equals. We chose them, cared for them instead of letting them fend for themselves in the wilderness. Secondly, the gorillas did not share the same amount of care for their pets that humans did theirs. They treated them brutally.”
“How do you…know?” Noa challenged.
You looked him the eye then, refusing to so much as blink as you confessed, “Because I was trapped in a cage as a pet for over a year.”
You’d never seen an ape be sick before, but Noa looked awfully close. His face was incredibly scrunched, and unless it was a trick of the fire, he looked two shades paler. His body seemed more hunched in, as if someone had punched him in the stomach. He breathed out the only word he seemed to be able to form, “What?”
Your hand covered your own mouth for a moment after the confession. Now that you said it out loud, it was real again. Nausea crept up on you at the epiphany, the fish in your gut souring the back of your throat. You turned away from Noa then, your other hand moving to your stomach and legs falling to the ground as you fought the overwhelming feeling. You already started, you couldn’t let yourself stop now. No one on this planet knew what happened now that your mother was gone. Someone else besides you should know. You took very deep breaths, hearing Noa start to make those humming noises again. They reminded you of the day you two had met, and that thought grounded you.
You turned back to Noa then, “My friends and I left the vault, three males and two females. We were traveling along a river, one we were very familiar with, when a group of gorillas and a few chimps approached us. We weren’t sure what to do, we had never seen apes before. The males simply stood in front of my friend and I. They had weapons, for hunting, but my friend and I had nothing.”
You saw the look in Noa’s eyes, the despair he held for you. You shifted again, bringing your knees up to tuck into your chest. You wrapped your arms around them, turning your head to face Noa as you rested your cheek on your knees. You tried to smile, “My friends were so brave, and if it weren’t for them, I might not be here now.”
“Do you…” Noa started. He opened his mouth as if to gulp the air, canines visible for a moment before he continued, “Do you…want silence?”
You shook your head, “I need to tell you, I need to say it. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to say it again if I stop now.”
Noa nodded, grunting as he stamped a closed fist against the ground a few times. You weren’t sure what it meant, but it might have been involuntary as he sighed through his nose, “Will not…speak…until you are…finished.”
“Okay.” You sighed, closing your eyes and letting the memories overtake you.
Kieran and Erik were at it again, trying to prove who was stronger. Somehow you and Eden got dragged into it, both of you being picked up and thrown over one of the boys shoulders as they ran down stream. Eden was absolutely losing it, snorting as she screamed in glee. You on the other hand, were just trying to make sure Kieran didn’t drop you. Even you had to admit though, it was pretty funny, a few giggles escaping as Kieran tried to trip Erik.
“I will strangle you if you trip me Kieran, I swear to God!” Erik shouted, stumbling slightly as Eden continued to squeal.
You slapped Kieran on the shoulder, “Fight fair! If you make Erik drop Eden he’ll have to get in line to strangle you.”
“Yeah, yeah!” Kieran called, picking up the pace, as you imagined the river’s edge was close.
You raised your head to see Micheal bringing up the rear, multiple bows and packs of arrows slung across his back as he attempted to keep up with his two younger brothers. Your eyes locked and you smiled at him, who in turn blushed and looked away. You enjoyed flustering him, not sure when he started acting differently around you, only that ever since, he had trouble keeping eye contact with you.
You would probably marry him one day. He was two years older than you, and while looks had never been something you were a particularly good judge on, you supposed he was decent enough. He was about your height, with dark auburn hair and brown eyes the color of a rich wood. More than his looks though, he was smart, smarter than Kieran and Erik for sure. He was the main hunter, knew how to be patient and find solutions to problems most wouldn’t think of. You admired that in him, how he never pretended to be something he wasn’t, never boasted or bragged that he was strong. He let his actions speak for themselves. While Eden might appreciate Kieran or Erik for their playfulness and macho displays, Micheal was the one who had your full attention.
Just as you thought that, Kieran jerked to a stop, and you felt your body go forward as he let you down, hollering his victory over Erik. Eden was still laughing, giving Erik a quick peck on the cheek in an attempt to comfort him.
“Hey, I won,” Kieran protested. “Shouldn’t I be the one to get a kiss?”
“You tried to cheat,” Eden accused, finger pointing at him.
Kieran smiled, “Key word being tried. I didn’t actually trip Erik.”
Eden rolled her eyes, turning to Micheal who was just now catching up, “I think he should be disqualified. What about you?”
Without missing a beat, Micheal said, “Absolutely. Erik wins by default, congratulations you two.”
Eden cheered, giving Erik a high-five as Kieran sulked. I patted his shoulder, “Better luck next time. Hey, I appreciate that you didn’t drop me.”
“Do I get a kiss for that?” He asked.
I snorted, “Yeah, sure.”
I leaned forward to kiss his cheek when Kieran suddenly turned his head, kissing me on the lips. I pulled back immediately as he grinned, looking so proud of himself. Of course, never one to boast when he actually does something outrageous. I practically growled at him, raising a leg to take my shoe off.
“Oh, shit!” Kieran cursed as he attempted to run.
“Get back here you ass!” You called as you chased after him, “Come take your beating like a man!”
Eden pulled Erik back playfully as he made to grab him, but Micheal was suddenly there, lunging forward and grabbing Kieran around the neck in a type of chokehold. This surprised you, but you just chuckled evilly, ready to get your revenge. Micheal saying your name however, stopped you in your tracks. That’s when you noticed his eyes locked on to something up ahead of you. Even Kieran stopped struggling as he caught site of what Micheal had.
Eden, Erik, and you all turned at the same time to find out what the other two were staring at. That’s when you saw it, apes on horseback. You had never seen an ape in person before, and you had to wonder what they were doing here. The five of you had frequented this river since you could walk, this wasn’t claimed territory. You were too scared to look away or make a sound now, feeling like something was terribly wrong. Running didn’t seem like a good idea though.
You heard Micheal call your name again, “Put your shoe back on and get behind me. Eden, you too. Erik, back up to me with Eden slowly.”
We all did as he instructed as the caravan of apes got closer. There were five gorillas and three chimpanzees. Two of the chimps were walking alongside the group instead of riding. That must mean there was a settlement nearby. A new ape settlement.
You felt Eden wrap her arm around yours, attempting to pull you back further. You didn’t want to move, afraid to look weak, and Micheal was right in front of you. He hadn’t reached for his bow yet, but his hands were ready. Erik and Kieran on the other hand weren’t willing to wait, arrows strung and pointed towards the ground.
The apes stopped then, probably 20 feet away from you, making a few noises that you assumed was their way of communication. You noticed them scanning your group, the biggest gorilla locking eyes with you for a brief moment before turning his attention to Erik. He was shifting from foot to foot, arrow pointed slightly off the ground now, as if he sensed danger.
“We mean you no harm,” Micheal’s booming voice called out. “As long as you mean us no harm. We understand if this is your territory, we did not know. We will respectfully leave and return to our homes and not come back.”
The larger gorilla huffed at one of the chimps on the ground, who paced to the back of his horse. He then turned to the smaller gorilla on his left, pointing to Micheal. You felt your stomach drop, not understanding what that meant, but having a feeling it wasn’t good. You felt Micheal’s hand on your stomach then, pushing you back as he whispered, “Start backing up, but don’t run unless I say.”
You hummed, too afraid to speak as the group slowly started inching backwards.
The large gorilla spoke then, the deep scratchy voice sending chills down your spine. “Human who can speak…comes with us.”
Ice flooded your veins then, looking to Micheal who seemed to be assessing the situation. Erik, upon hearing that, raised his bow in the air, aiming for the gorilla who spoke. No sooner had he done that, you heard a Thunk noise, and a gasp be ripped from Erik’s mouth. You turned, watching in slow motion as Erik took a step back, allowing you to see the spear lodged in his chest.
You watched the realization hit him at the same time as the rest of you, a final glance to Micheal before he collapsed. You couldn’t react, shock gripping your being as you saw Eden cover her mouth to smother the scream she wanted to let out, visibly shaking now as she clung to you. Kieran was smart enough not to raise his bow further, but he and Micheal shared a devastated look before facing the apes again.
“Run.” Micheal hissed, and time seemed to not only resume, but speed up.
The gorillas all practically leapt off their horses. The two chimps on the ground hurling spears, not trying to hit you but trying to keep you all in one place. Eden took off alongside you, and for once, you were thankful she was smaller than you, it allowed her to be faster. You heard Micheal and Kieran behind you, turning your head over your shoulder once to see the apes gaining. Micheal did the same, and you saw the calculating look in his eye as he turned back around.
He called out then, “Kieran you’re with me, you two don’t stop running for anything! I mean it!”
You heard Eden whimper ahead of you as a sort of confirmation, and you stumbled a moment, wanting to stop but knowing if you did, whatever Micheal intended to do would be in vain. Two sets of footsteps stopped echoing behind you, so you kept running, dodging over limbs and bushes as you both strayed from the rivers edge in search of cover.
You heard arrows flying alongside apes screeching and roaring in tandem. You couldn’t look, couldn’t see who was winning. You had to keep going…..but then you heard Kieran scream. You turned then to see one of the chimps dead on the ground, and a Gorilla struggling to breathe next to the corpse, half dead himself. He had more than seven arrows lodged in his chest. There were two more gorillas though, one restraining Micheal and the other…
Kieran was on the ground, body twisted in an unnatural position, with the second gorilla above him. You saw dark arms raise before fists came down over his body. Micheal struggled in a net next to him, screaming and cursing at the apes. You looked away, hearing the pain in Kieran’s voice each time the Thump of fists came down on him. You heard a wet, cracking sound following the next blow that echoed in the forest. Then, there was no more screaming. No more hits to the ground. No more sound. You knew Kieran was dead.
You heard the pound of running steps behind you then, and you knew what was about to happen. You gasped in air, forcing your body to go faster, run harder. Eden was so far ahead of you…you knew she would probably get away if she just kept going. You willed your voice to be steady as you screamed, “Don’t stop, Eden! Run faster, give it everything you have! Don’t stop until you’re home! Don’t look back, just run!”
You didn’t hear a response, but you saw her shift slightly, running more on the balls of her feet and picking her legs up higher, arms jerking back and forth harder than they were before. You saw her duck behind a tree and then she was out of your line of sight. Part of you was comforted by that, but that relief was quickly extinguished when something smacked into your back and you quickly hit the ground. You scraped your chin when you landed, letting out a small cry of pain as you wriggled in the net you found yourself trapped in.
There was a tug, and you were being dragged back towards Micheal and the other apes. The Gorilla above you huffed and snarled as you continued to struggle, raising a leg and kicking you in the stomach. You groaned, curing in on yourself as another gorilla on a horse approached.
The gorilla holding you pointed towards where Eden had been, “Find the human and their nest, take the ones who speak…kill the rest.”
No
Eden was going to lead them home, and there was nothing you could do about it. You felt tears start streaming down your face, as the ape holding you sniffed loudly, throwing you next to Micheal, another ape gripping the closure of the net. The larger ape growled, “Weak human…bleeding…stinks.”
The ape above you seemed to huff in agreement, and as awful as this was, you were relieved that Micheal had escaped the slaughter. You were happy he was here with you. You actively avoided looking at his brother laying on the ground next to you as you thought this.
The two of you were thrown across a horse, a chimp walking alongside it as you tried to track where you were and where they were taking the two of you. You were separated from Micheal when you arrived to the ape settlement. It was built on the side of a cliff, apes working on a large wooden fence around the front. As you rode in you noticed they were taking you off to the left, but taking Micheal all the way to the back. Neither of you said anything, knowing that if one of you had the chance to escape you would do so, and maybe send help for the other.
There was a crude room made from a small stone alcove in the rocks. You were taken out of the net and thrown in, rolling on the ground from the unexpected force. You didn’t try to run, the colony of gorillas overflowing, it would only be a few steps before you were caught. A makeshift door of bamboo was shut behind you, leaving you in the small space to explore alone. You decided to bide your time and look around for anything that could be useful to you. A large nest of leaves and furs was off to the side, some baskets filled with fruits, and other random odds and ends were scattered around the room. Nothing you could use at present. You tried to not look too closely at the bones that were scattered on the floor, deciding it didn’t matter if they were human or not as long as they weren’t yours.
The larger gorilla from earlier slammed open the door then, ground shaking as he made his way towards you. There was nowhere for you to go, but still you tried to back up as far away as you could from him. In seconds, your back was against the stone of the cave as the gorilla closed the distance between the two of you. You refused to cower, but you did freeze in place. His height was staggering, standing on all fours but his eyes were level with yours. Only then did you realize that looking him in the eye was a mistake, watching as he yanked you by your ankle.
You hit the ground hard, attempting to catch yourself on your elbows before he dragged you half under him. You tried not to cry or scream, thinking it would only aggravate the ape further. He jerked on your limbs, pulling you this way and that, then grabbing you by the neck. He pulled you close, taking a deep whiff before throwing you back to the ground. Your skull practically bounced off the stone below you and you whimpered, clutching at the back of your head.
This seemed to catch the gorilla’s attention, seizing you now by the hair and using it to pull you into a standing position. He chose to stand on two legs now, raising you up with him, and you barley dangled on your tip toes in order not to have all of your weight hanging my your head.
“You can make noise,” the gorilla snarled. “No point in having you if you don’t. Understand human?”
You whined, still struggling against his hold, “Yes! Please let go, it hurts!”
The gorilla made a satisfied noise, yanking up once very hard before dropping you entirely. You couldn’t help it, you collapsed onto your hands and knees while tears fell from your eyes. The pain was overwhelming, feeling like your skull was on fire, and you sobbed in fear as the gravity of your situation finally set in. Your body began to shake, the air you gasped into your lungs getting more and more shallow no matter how deep a breath you took. The ape circled you the entire time, intently watching your reaction.
“You are young,” he commented. “Will get much use out of you if you do as you are told.”
You tried to quiet your noises, tried to focus on his words. He made a fist as he raised his arm, and you yelped, wrapping your arms around your head. The ape hooted in delight, “You are smart…that is good. You will refer to me as Gol. Understood?”
“Y-yes.” You stuttered, slowly dropping your arms.
Gol reached for you again, grabbing you by the neck and hauling you up. You dangled in the air once more, feet kicking as you felt his grip close around your throat. Both hands scratched across his arm for any sort of purchase, attempting to hold yourself up to pull any amount of air you could get into your lungs. He watched you struggle before explaining, “You will come when I call, you will stay where I put you, and you will eat when I give you food. You will do what I say without question or hesitation. Do you understand?”
You nodded, gasping, “Yes!”
“Yes, what?” He huffed.
“Yes, Gol!” You practically spat in an effort to get the words out.
He dropped you to your feet then, not giving you a chance to catch your breath as he grabbed your hair, leading you by it like it was a leash. You were marched through the settlement by his unrelenting grasp until you reached the human cages. A door was opened for Gol by a chimp, then you were thrown in. You scrambled on your hands and feet before the door was promptly slammed in your face. You sniffled, watching as the apes hooted and chuffed before leaving you alone.
Not entirely alone
You heard a deep sigh behind you and saw Micheal crouching in the back of the cage. Though your body was sore and you were pretty sure your chin was still bleeding, you ran to him. He opened his arms and allowed you to collapse in them, sinking to the ground with you as you remained wrapped in each other. He tried to soothe you as you cried, but there was nothing he could tell you that would fix this. His brothers were dead, and Eden was leading the other apes to your home.
Home…you wanted to go home
As if hearing your thoughts Micheal squeezed you tighter, whispering, “I know…but we have to be smart. We will not be here forever. We will not die here. We just have to bide our time. Trust me, I promise you’ll get to go home.”
You wiped the tears from your eyes, burying your face in the warmth of his chest and the comfort of his smell. You trusted him, as long as he survived you would too. You would live for each other in hopes of making it out of here alive. Who knows, there were a few mechanical weapons in the vault, maybe Eden made it before the apes could stop her. Maybe your parents were planning a rescue mission as you sat here.
Micheal called your name then, forcing you to look up. He kissed the top of your head, holding you closer, “As fucked up as this is…and as much as I wish you weren’t, I’m really happy you’re here with me.”
You nodded, tucking your head back into his chest. Your fingers dug into his shirt, swallowing hard before you started, “I’m sorry about-”
“Don’t.” He interrupted you, “Just…don’t. Not yet. Have your breakdown now, I’ll have mine later.”
You hiccuped then, “I’ll be there for you when you do.”
He smiled then, genuinely, smoothing his fingers through your hair as you clung to each other, “Thank you.”
….
You had lost track of time, how long you had been here…but now you remembered with painful clarity. There were two things that you were sure of. The first, your home was either never found, or everyone there was killed. You woke up anxious every morning for days, weeks, but you never saw anyone from your vault brought to the settlement. The second, is that you were a year older. You had been taken in the early summer, and summer was once again upon you.
You had been here for over a year. You and Micheal had saved each others lives more times than you could count; sharing food and water, keeping each other warm during the freezing days of winter, sharing pain when punishment was inflicted…and in your case, it was inflicted a lot. You were more aware now of how tired you were, how wrong your body felt compared to how it had been. Even Micheal was not unaffected, he could no longer string a bow, even if he was ordered to. Both of you it seemed could barely carry more than your body weight.
Gol had stopped by your cage today, yanking you out while another gorilla gathered Micheal. For the first time since the two of you arrived, you were separated. You couldn’t do anything about that though, worrying for your own safety when Gol brought you back into his room. There was a large basket in the center of the room, steam billowing out of it. You thought it was food for a moment, disappointed as you approached it to find only water.
Gol grabbed your hair, as he was accustomed to, forcing you to your knees as you cried out in pain. Nowadays the pain blended into itself, to the point you were almost numb, almost couldn’t feel it. The rub was, if you didn’t reassure him that you were hurt by his actions, he would be sure to be rougher with you until he got the reaction he wanted. He grabbed a ragged piece of cloth nearby, dunking it into the water before ringing it out above your head. The water was too hot, causing you to hiss, lurching forward and away from him, your fingers running through your hair to try to alleviate the burning feeling. You didn’t mean to do it, but your scrambling away from Gol and the hot water was a mistake you hadn’t rectified quick enough.
This angered Gol, who let out a roar before grabbing you by the ankle and yanking you back to him. His hand came down and hit you hard across the head, dazing you for a moment as you tasted blood. He had split your lip. At the faintest smell of blood the Gorilla growled his irritation, “Stinking human. Even more vile with that smell on you now. You should be grateful the water is warm. I should throw you in the river like last time.”
The memory caused your body to be wracked by chills, recalling late last winter, just before spring, when you had gotten your monthly. Gol usually ignored it or ignored you until it was done, but something about this one set him on edge. He had opened your cage and dragged you from the settlement, Micheal following after you but too weak to do much about it. Gol had thrown you, clothes and all, into the river to “purge himself of your smell.” You had nearly just stayed underwater, the cold getting to you and the will for air nowhere in sight as you imagined what you had to go back to.
A moment later Micheal had dove in after you. Stark naked, he pulled you out of the river, both of you shaking. Gol had sniffed once and deemed you acceptable enough to return. Micheal quickly stripped you of your clothes, as if you were a child, while you both followed Gol back. He wore his pants, but as he carried your wet clothes he forced you to put on his dry, warm shirt. It barely kept your modesty, but it wasn’t wet or cold. It was enough. Neither of you spoke about you staying under for that long; Micheal didn’t want to believe you would leave him, and you were too ashamed to admit that for a moment you were ready to.
The shame of the memory flooded you, forcing you to find your voice, “Tell me what you want and I’ll do it.”
Gol threw the rag at you, stepping overtop and away from you then before sitting in his nest. He huffed as he studied his most recent trinket he had found on a scouting mission, ordering, “Strip and wash yourself. Do not put your old clothes back on.”
You swallowed and did as he said, mumbling, “Yes, Gol.”
Though you were two different species you still turned your back to him then, every nerve ending in your body becoming a live wire as you sensed the danger behind you. You did enjoy the warmth of the water once it had time to cool, but you did not languish in its comforts, wanting to be done as soon as possible so you could put on fresh clothes.
When you finished, you stood, trying not to hold yourself in a way that showed that you were uncomfortable. Gol glanced at you before rising from his nest, ordering you to follow him. You felt shame well up inside of you as he paraded you back to your cage, jaw clenched as you imagined how many ways you could kill the ape if you only had a weapon. Micheal was already there, also missing his clothes. You both took one look at each other, before quickly glancing away, and pieced together exactly what it was the apes were plotting. Gol shut the door behind you and walked away. Oddly enough, the apes had been avoiding the human enclosures completely today, and now you knew why.
It was early summer, warm enough that there was no chill, but still you felt your skin pebble. Micheal called you then. His back was plastered to the wall of your enclosure, legs and arms spread as he looked away. His eyes were closed for good measure, motioning for you to come sit. He held the only blanket in one hand and you moved without hesitation to sit between his legs, trying to avoid looking at him too out of courtesy. He wrapped the blanket around both of you then, using your back pressed close to his chest to pin a corner in place, doing the same with his back and the wall.
For once, he seemed just as nervous as you. You could feel his heart beat ricocheting against his chest. He blew out a ragged breath, leaning his head back as you curled in to make yourself as small as possible. You felt him swallow, his heart rate slowly lowering until it was back to its normal rhythm. Then there was just silence.
After what felt like an eternity, both of you sitting there, waiting for something to happen, you felt Micheal shift closer to you. He leaned in to whisper discreetly in your ear, “We have a choice to make. Their way, or our way. One way or the other, I need you to trust me.”
You looked up at him then, his mouth set in a harsh line and his eyes stone cold. You reached for his hand under the blanket, squeezing once before admitting, “You know I do.”
“Good. Try to sleep for now,” he whispered. “You’ll need your rest.”
What he was asking wasn’t difficult, no sooner had you closed your eyes did you feel yourself being nudged awake for dinner. In some cosmic joke, both of you were given fresh fruit and fish for dinner. Clean water too. You were shocked, but Micheal was not. He made sure you both ate your fill, hiding an apple and an orange in the folds of his blanket. When the apes returned to take your trough away they leered at the two of you before hooting to each other.
You sneered at the retreating apes, “Apparently, it doesn’t matter what species, all men are pigs.”
“Hey,” Micheal chuckled. “I’ve been nothing but a gentlemen this entire time.”
You scoffed, “You’re the exception, not the rule.”
“That’s more like it.” He teased before becoming serious once more, “Are you ready? We’re moving in about five minutes.”
“Shouldn’t we wait a bit longer?” You asked. “That seems so soon after they just gave us food and water.”
Micheal shook his head, “They left us alone all day with the exception of our baths. They think the privacy will help, so I say we use it against them. It’s already dark, they’re all at the bonfire. No one will come to check on us until sunrise, and we need to use every second we have.”
You nodded, “Alright.”
And true to his word, Micheal was slowly easing two bamboo bars away from where they were spiked into the ground. You were surprised he was able to do it, but he showed you where he had been secretly bending them for weeks to make it weaker. He held it open while you slipped through, then he slipped out backwards himself. He held it as long as he could before slowly releasing it. It snapped back into place and you marveled at his strength, noticing how winded he was from the effort.
“I thought…” you began to say but stopped yourself. “Have you always been this strong?”
Micheal sighed, “More or less, it depends on the day. I couldn’t show the apes that or they would have worked me to death. Can’t say the lie didn’t weaken me still.”
He turned to you then, wrapping the blanket around you. He tied the material in strategic places, ripping and tearing where he needed to so you were covered, but still had full mobility. He used the excess at the bottom to craft a makeshift carrier to hold the apple and orange from earlier. He tied it around your wrist, and just as you wondered why you couldn’t hold it he explained, “We’re going to be climbing, you’ll need both hands.”
You blanched, eyes huge as you hissed, “You intend to scale down the mountain in the dark, barefoot, and naked?”
“Yes,” he said with confidence. “It’s our best chance. I’ll go first and you’ll follow my footholds.”
As you two made it to the edge you glared at him, “You are actively insane.”
He swallowed, “I hope so, because if I wasn’t I don’t think this would work.”
There was just enough moonlight for you to see Micheal, watching carefully as he began to descend. Once he was down a few feet he stopped, holding himself up and motioning for you to follow. The strain on your arms was nearly unbearable, but the idea of freedom forced you to keep your limbs locked and straight. One foot after the other, hand over hand, just don’t look down. You repeated it like a mantra, stopping when he told you to and continuing when he told you to.
After what felt like an eternity, you heard Micheal hit solid ground. You felt your heart kick up and butterflies surge in your stomach. Just as you reached the bottom you felt Micheal’s hands brace you. You let go and allowed him to catch the rest of you. You could have screamed with joy, looking up at the cliff for a moment before turning your attention to Micheal. His brown eyes were shining with happy tears, both of you letting out a few breathy laughs. You embraced then, only for a moment, before Micheal grabbed your hand and set off in a dash to the surrounding woods.
You weren’t sure where you were going, or if he knew where he was leading you two until you came to the river. That was perfect! You could cross and follow it back home, even though you were downstream you knew this river and its path home like the back of your hand. Micheal was a genius!
You turned to tell him as much, when you noticed him picking up a rock from the ground. He examined it closely before rinsing it in the river.
“What are you doing?” You asked, tilting your head in confusion as you stared at the rock in his hand.
He looked at you then, eyes sorrowful, whispering, “I made a promise.”
He dug the rock into the palm of his left hand then sliced it, letting blood run down his wrist and into the grass at your feet. He hissed, dropping the rock and clutching his closed palm.
“What are you doing?” You nearly screamed, remembering to keep your voice low.
He smiled sadly, “Making sure you get home. Why do you think I made sure you were the one covered, and had food?”
You looked down now at yourself then to him, tears prickling your eyes, “You promised we wouldn’t die here, you promised we’d go home together.”
“I have no intention of dying,” he smirked. “But sometimes things are out of our control. It’s almost dawn, I need you to cross the river while I lead the blood trail as far downstream as I can. If I can evade them until noon then I’ll cross and backtrack. If all goes well I’ll get home a day or two after you.”
Tears were streaming down your face now, Micheal pulling you in for a hug, making sure to avoid getting blood on your blanket. You reached up then, grabbing his face in your hands and looking at him. It may be the last time you would be able to do so. With that thought spurring you on, your brought your mouths together in a clash of lips and teeth. It wasn’t perfect, but it was hungry and full of promise. Truthfully, it was a first for you both.
You felt his uninjured hand cup the back of your head, pulling you in closer as the two of you breathed each other in. You broke apart for air, taking a few real breaths before he leaned forward again. It was softer this time, his lips melting into yours as he brought your bodies together. Your hands wrapped around his neck and you felt heat pool in your stomach, mouth falling open as he deepened the kiss.
He groaned in the back of his throat, as if sensing your excitement, but ultimately pulled away. You both were panting, and he had to stop you from leaning in again, tears drying against your cheeks. His pupils were so dark they nearly suffocated the brown, and when he leaned down you thought he would kiss you again. Hell, by the way he grasped onto you, you thought he would take you right here. Instead, he surprised you, choosing to rest his head against yours. His body swayed into yours a moment, and rocked back with you as you pressed firmly into him. You felt the nails and heat of his right hand biting into the flesh of your hip through the blanket, his hold firm but not painful. When had it moved to your hip?
He let out an aggravated groan then, harshly kissing the top of your head, before gently pushing you away, “You need to go. I’ll see you at home in a day or two.”
You took a deep breath, swallowing your heartache as you took a step back. He was still breathing raggedly, nails now biting into his crossed arms. He was holding himself back by the barest of threads. You couldn’t ignore that, respecting his restraint as you slowly made your way into the water. You saw Micheal bend down and wipe his bleeding hand along the ground, away from the edge of the water. He straightened, pushing out more blood before wiping the red streak across his chest.
He noticed your hesitation, a cocky smile taking over his features, which would have seemed more natural on Erik or Kieran as he admitted, “Just so you know, in different circumstances, no one else around, I wouldn’t have hesitated. Even now, you still drive me crazy.”
You felt a blush tint your cheeks, confessing, “Just so you know…I love you. I would have married you in different circumstances.”
True fire lit up his eyes then, a joyous noise coming out in a rush as he pointed his injured hand at you, “You remember in two days that you said that! I’ll come home to you if it’s the last thing I do. If some beast manages to get me before then, I’ll find you in our next life.”
A watery laugh escaped you then, “You still believe in reincarnation?”
“I have to now, don’t I?” He countered, “It’s the only way I’ll be able to marry you more than once.”
You giggled, feeling a chill run up your spine as silence engulfed the two of you. You swallowed, whispering, “I have to go now.”
Micheal hummed, “You do, before dawn breaks. Please, be safe. I love you.”
You nodded dumbly, turning then and diving into the water. The current was strong, but you didn’t fight it, allowing it to carry you as you crossed. When you made it to the bank on the opposite side you crawled until you hit stable ground. It took effort to lift your body from the mud, but you managed. Once you were standing again, you turned to look for Micheal. He had followed you along the edge of the bank on the opposite side, giving a small wave before continuing down stream. You waved back weakly, tears flowing again as a sob threatened to escape your mouth. You choked it down, smothering any noise as you turned towards the woods. You walked in the opposite direction, just as he told you to do, hoping that home was still where you had left it. And, if it wasn’t, you hoped that it would find you in two days.
….
You wiped a tear from your face, scrubbing at your cheek slightly before turning your attention back to Noa. His mouth was slightly open, lips pursed, fingers fidgeting with each other. He looked as sad as you felt. He was true to his word, staying silent through your retelling. He also didn’t rush to say anything after, which you appreciated. You needed this reprieve now that you re-opened that wound. Could you bleed out from emotional pain? At the moment, burying your head into your arms, it felt like it was possible.
Noa moved his arm, as if he was going to comfort you, but thought better of it, pulling it back to his side.
You gasped in a breath, “When I started to recognize where I was on the river, I took off and didn’t stop until I reached home. I had never run so fast in my life…except for maybe the day we met. I found out the gorillas did attack the vault, trying to take people, but were ultimately killed. No survivors were able to report back where the vault was. We lost a lot of people though….my friend, she didn’t make it. I left with my mother a week later. We travelled for months until we settled here. That was about four years ago. She mainly built this place. I helped, but she was the one who thought of everything.”
“Where is…mother?” Noa asked, hand raising under his chin to correspond the sign with the word.
You felt the tears spring forward again, and you looked up to try to stop them from falling. You let out a shaky breath, “One step at a time…I’ll tell you about her some other day, I don’t have it in me right now. She meant...she means so much to me.”
Noa looked down then, something you said striking a nerve in him. He fiddled with the band on his arm, avoiding your eyes. A long sigh came from his nose, his hand coming up in a very human way to rub and hold his brow. His voice was rough as he spoke, “The Echo male…why is he…not here?”
You paused, wishing the words you were about to say were different. “He never came home.”
Noa kept his gaze from you still as he whispered, “I am sorry.”
You hummed in return. What else could you say? You waited for him as long as you could, but ultimately you couldn’t stay there. Your mother knew it too, which is why you both made the selfish decision to leave, sneaking away during the cover of night. You sat up then, pulling your jacket back to you from where it rested on the bed. It had been your mother’s, which she gave to you during the cooler nights of your journey. She never seemed to get cold, though in hindsight she had probably just put your needs before hers, hiding any cold or discomfort from you. You weren’t exactly present during the first half of your journey, just a shell at that point. Living as if life was a dream and nothing mattered. You wished now you could remember those earlier days, showed more appreciation for your mother while she was alive. She had given up everything for you.
Noa sniffed, pointing to the jacket in your hand, “Clothes are…important to Echo?”
You had to smirk, Noa thought it was a safe question to ask. You nodded, “Mhm. They keep us warm, and safe from the outside elements. This belonged to my mother, but now that she’s gone, it belongs to me.”
“Why were your…clothes taken?” Noa asked, lips curling up slightly in what you supposed was confusion or irritation. “After so long…sounded like…there was a purpose…do not understand.”
You bit the inside of your mouth, trying to think how best to respond. Of course Noa wouldn’t understand shame or modesty, it was inherently human after all. You decided to just spit out the ugly truth of the situation, not having a good way to sugar coat it, “The gorillas were trying to get us to reproduce…for whatever reason. Obviously, humans don’t have fur like apes, so clothes not only cover our bodies but our sexes too. Usually, if we remove that barrier in front of someone of the opposite sex, it’s a signal that we want to…mate, I suppose is the word you would use?”
Noa’s gaze finally returned, eyes piercing into yours as he asked, “What word…would you use?”
You shrugged, “We have a few words, I guess it depends on the intent. If it’s for reproduction, which in this case it would have been, then it would be called sex. If it’s with a partner, someone you care about and just want to be with, it’s called love making.”
“Partner…” Noa hesitated. “Is mate?”
“Not necessarily,” you responded. You were grateful for the brief interlude into human customs, even though the subject would have been considered wildly inappropriate with anyone else. “A wife, or in my case, a husband would be the term for a partner that I’d be with for life. A partner in general, can be anyone.”
Noa thought for a moment, “Partner can be…someone who is courting you? Not ma- husband…not husband?”
“Right,” you chuckled. The old English term was rather endearing, though humans preferred the more modern term of dating. Noa didn’t need to know that part, you liked courting better.
Noa looked to the fire then, gaze distant as he allowed his mind to wander with everything you said. You took that moment to enjoy the silence once more. Your next breath was deep, and the air felt cleaner, lighter. The weight of your past had been lifted, even if it didn’t last until morning. Just telling Noa, having him listen and show empathy as you shared your pain, momentarily healed some fractured piece inside of you. In a strange twist, you found yourself wanting to reach out to him now. The sudden pull was undeniable.
“Noa?” You called, getting his attention.
He turned to you then, grunting in response. You reached your hand out then, stopping just an inch or so away from his hand, looking for permission. Surprise was clear in his gaze, looking between your eyes and your hands, so close together but not quite touching. He hooted softly, raising his slightly closed hand, knuckles brushing against yours before you turned your palm, sliding it under his to gently grasp his wrist. His fingers twitched against your skin before you felt him mimic your hold.
For the first time, you noticed his eyes were not focused on yours, trained instead on your joined hands. He tilted his head, turning his arm slightly too in order to get a closer look at what he was holding. He had probably never seen a human up close like this before, his other hand rising to trace the details of your fingers. Your slightly crooked pinky was a moment of interest to him, then the webbing of skin between your fingers, before he moved on to the small scar on the top of your middle knuckle.
While he was focused on exploring your skin, you took the time to study his face unencumbered. You noticed all the muscles there that shifted under the weight of each new thought and emotion. How could one ape be so expressive? Mouth, jaw, and brow just seemed to be an extension of his gaze. He was an open book now that you could see close enough. Confusion, intrigue, and the desire to learn more, all written there, burning within his eyes. Now, it was reflected in his touch as well. You had to fight the urge to laugh as he brushed against the small hairs on your arm, seeming to take interest in the fact you did have hair that was not on your head. You let him continue, wanting the moment to last a bit longer.
You realized this was the first time you had voluntarily let him touch you, and sought out to touch him in return, since the river. This strange truth took you by surprise. That couldn’t be right, thinking back to all of your interactions, but coming up with nothing. Riding together would have been the closest you could think of, but even then it wasn’t necessarily voluntary. It had been out of forced proximity. Maybe that’s where it had started? You couldn’t deny the warmth of his hand, the strange feel of his skin compared to yours was like a balm. It soothed something deep inside of you. Or, maybe that was just Noa. Even that first day you met, when you had invited him back to your shelter, you sensed there was something different about him. It’s like you recognized it subconsciously, some strange likeness in him that called out to you.
Whatever it was, you were grateful for it now. You couldn’t bring your voice above a whisper as you admitted, “I’m glad you’re here with me. It was nice not to wake up alone…even if it did startle me at first. Thank you for bringing me back, and thank you for listening to me. It strangely felt…good, to say it all out loud.”
Noa’s mouth pressed in a thin line, eyes traveling from your hands, up your arm to your shoulder. They paused briefly at your neck before jerking to your face. You felt his thumb twitch against your wrist, next to your pulse, before he said, “You saved me…after your history with apes…means more now…than before…thank you…will always be here…if you need me.”
You couldn’t lie, throat tight as you confessed, “You shouldn’t think so highly of me because of that. I had no plans to save you. The truth is I don’t know or understand why I did it. I saw you fighting for your life and I just…reacted.”
Noa’s grip tightened a fraction, his gaze reflecting something similar to clarity. It was if a great weight had been lifted from his mind. That’s when his eyes lowered, his free hand smoothing over the top of yours, trailing up to your forearm before sliding back down. You watched in rapt fascination, the graceful movement of his hand as he did it again. You thought he would say something, but he didn’t, seemingly too focused on the moment. Too focused on his hand going up your arm, then back down. He didn’t seem angry or upset about your telling him the truth, so you took comfort in that. That’s when you felt your thumb, clasped loosely around his wrist, start to mimic his hand, sweeping up and down in that same soothing manner. The hair there tickled your skin as you moved it.
His eyes were never wary of yours, but you noticed a flitting back and forth between your stare and your stroking hands. It was contemplative, but soft at the same time. You both continued to just watch your hands move, easing into the actions of the other. He continued his hypnotic back and forth movement, causing a contented sigh to be released from you. The next time he caught your now drowsy stare, the right side of his lips curved upwards. Your mouth parted slightly, breath caught in the back of your throat as your heart skipped a beat. It all fell apart for you then; suddenly feeling too intimate as you continued to sit, touching Noa, in silence. You broke eye contact, looking down as you stopped moving, very slowly and gently pulling your arm from his grip. He noticed your discomfort immediately, releasing you just as gently.
Always so careful with you. Always allowing you to decide when to pull away.
He brought his hands slowly back to his lap, and you brought yours to your chest. You felt your heart pounding against your palms, and you wondered when that had started. You felt the tension in the space rise, your eyes sliding back up trepidatiously to meet Noa’s. There was that intensity again…and you wished you knew what he was thinking
“Jumbled.” Noa finally said.
You saw his mouth move, but didn’t quite hear the word over the sound of your pulse in your ears, “What?”
Noa made that same gesture he had at the library, hand to his chest, “Inside…jumbled spirit.”
You scoffed, trying to lighten the mood, “I killed a boar today, and I’ll give you the fact I hit the pavement like a rag doll, but I’m not jumbled, Noa.”
“Yesterday,” he corrected, smiling now. You rolled your eyes playfully before he continued, “You feel alone…even when you are not…do not want to be touched…but enjoy when you receive affection…scared of apes…but care about Anaya and Soona.”
“And you,” you added unintentionally. The way it rolled so naturally off your tongue surprised you.
Noa chuffed, grinning triumphantly, “See?…How can you be scared…and care at the same time?”
You leaned back against the stone ledge, shrugging, “I don’t know. Maybe it’s because humans are complicated and capable of complex thoughts and feelings?”
Noa turned his head away from you, making a gesture you didn’t understand as he blew out air from his mouth. It felt like a natural response to you being cheeky though. When he turned back he pointed at your chest, “I fix jumble…you teach to read odd sounding…book.”
You tilted your head then, “Are you trying to make a deal with me?”
“No,” Noa huffed, arms crossing. “You have no say…this is what I have…decided.”
“You do realize I was going to teach you to read anyway?” You laughed.
Noa hummed, “Yes…but now I…give back.”
He was always giving back
“Ah,” you said. “And how exactly do you plan to fix the jumble?”
He moved from his sitting position then, standing in a crouch to offer you both of his hands, “Will let you know…when I figure it out…one step…at a time Echo.”
You chuckled in the back of your throat, hesitating only a moment before taking his hands. At first, you expected a swift jerk or a harsh pull upwards, but instead you felt his grip shift. He was carful of your palms, holding the backs of your hands and your wrists now as he carefully pulled you towards him. You were able to keep both feet under you, and Noa merely braced your weight as you pushed yourself to stand, making sure you were stable before releasing you all together. At times like these, you appreciated the intense focus he seemed to have around you, for it allowed him to notice the smaller details you wouldn’t normally think of yourself.
Noa looked down towards the ground for a moment, brows furrowed, then at his still open hands in front of him, before mentioning, “You have never denied…an offer…to touch you.”
“What?” The suddenness of the statement confused you.
Noa stretched out his hand then, as if to demonstrate, “When I offer…you take…when I ask… you agree…you are not afraid when I touch you…when you know I will.”
You shrugged, “I suppose, but that only makes sense. I’m expecting it.”
Noa shook his head then, arms mirroring the motion, a strange look in his eye as he tried to explain, “Ape touch…my touch…not bad.”
“Noa.” You tried to follow, to understand what he was saying, but he was either too excited or he didn’t fully comprehend what he was trying to say either. “I know you have no intentions to hurt me. I know that, but I can’t help my reactions sometimes when-”
“You do not dislike…when I touch you.” Noa interrupted, and it somehow sounded both like a question and a statement.
You licked your lips then, finally understanding what he meant. Your eyes darted to his palms before returning to his face. You shook your head, “I don’t dislike it.”
The admission made heat rush to your cheeks, even though it was an innocent statement. Noa hummed then, swaying slightly as he took a step away from you. You felt your next breath come in a bit easier. He picked up your spear from the ground, where he had been sitting earlier, leaning it against the rock of the cave before saying, “We will start there…build on that.”
The heat did not dissipate from your cheeks from his words, your mind adding fuel to the fire as you imagined multiple ways “building on that” could go. You choked down the heat enough to steady your voice as you asked, “Are you leaving?”
Noa turned then, smirk playing on his lips and brow raising, “Want me…to stay?”
How in the hell were you meant to answer that?! You were sure for a moment your brain stopped working as you attempted to process his words. As if sensing your turmoil, Noa shuffled in place, huffing, “Must return…time approaches for…Great Climb of the season...as Master of Birds I have…much to do.”
You nodded, not quite understanding, but appreciating that he saved you from further embarrassment. You cleared your throat then, legs stiff as you took a few steps towards him, “I’ll walk you out.”
Noa waited for you to be next to him before he took another step towards the exit. You walked out first, watching comically as he had to bend at the waist to get out. He eyed your entrance, wondering, “You will…be able to move rock…now and later?”
You sighed, “Probably not, I’m going to close it half way, nothing should be able to get in that way and I can still slip out if I need to.”
“Sore?” He asked.
“Very,” you half laughed. “It was an…eventful day. Not sure if I can say that it was a good or bad one though. When you aren’t so busy with preparations, we’ll start your reading lessons. So, let me know, okay?”
“Tomorrow,” Noa said confidently, swaying slightly closer to you. “After midday.”
His eagerness did not surprise you, smiling, “Alright. Tomorrow, midday. The three of you can meet me by the creek. Same place as usual.”
He nodded, glancing over to his horse, whose tail was swishing back and forth in irritation at being tied up for so long. Noa returned his attention to you then, sighing, “Be safe…will see you…tomorrow.”
“You be safe as well, it’s dark.” You stated the obvious, internally kicking yourself before giving a small wave. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

puppy love | yandere!mark grayson x afab!reader | MULTI-CHAP: 2
chapter 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
cw; DARK CONTENT!!! MDNI!!! reader is neurodivergent, ableism, growing up is messy & adults suck, angst, niceguy™/slight incel mark, childhood friend/bully!mark, mark gets his powers sooner, teeny tiny implications of pseudo incest (blink and you'll miss it), violent rape, threats of violence, & canon typical violence, stalking, implied murder, gender & body dysphoria, mentions/implications of disordered eating, mark teases reader about their body once, overall asshole mark, implied grooming (mark handles it but he's a lil bitch about it later), so, victim blaming, misogyny, the inexplicable horrors of being afab, objectification, sexualization
about; . . i am not the boy you knew and you are dead to me you watch someone you know grow into static company - boy (alex g)
2.
your chest ached.
with changing seasons, countless birthdays, the broadening of your consciousness brought an expansion of your body. growing in places that made you walk with a slouch and had your hands tugging at the front of your shirt. the shorts you'd wear during summer turned into your shame whenever your parent(s) would ask you to go and change for something more. . 'appropriate'.
ridiculous, you thought. how could they be inappropriate? they were your favorite pair.
or they used to be.
a man old enough to be your father leered at you while you were out riding your bike. you took them off as soon as you got home. you're sure they sit at the bottom of your closet to this day.
your hands got bigger. your fingers stretched. you got taller. people often told you you looked like your parent(s). you didn't see it.
despite the passage of time, mark was still there.
your parent(s) had long received the grayson's blessing to allow him refuge in your home: playdates whenever he wasn't preoccupied with baseball and important school work. but as the pages of the calendars turned, your parent(s) worried your little playdates had gone on for too long.
however, much like the dilemma your teachers had, no one had the heart - nor the energy - to separate you two. the two of you were entering the age where interest in romance grew and your parent(s) worried. it was cute, at first. when a 6 year old mark would follow you home and your parent(s) would have to contact the graysons, lest they turn the world upside down searching for their one son. or the time in which he'd brought ring-pops and claimed you'd gotten married.
but the fact of the matter was that mark had changed, too. you didn't see it at first. didn't even imagine it could've ever been that way.
mark was a growing boy.
there was evidence of that etched in markings on the wall next to your bedroom door: comparisons of height done in pencil. one with your initial. the other in his. you'd always be surprised when he kept surpassing you inch by inch. and you'd make a face whenever you'd - yet again - failed to keep up. and after your parent(s) wearily watched the two of you engage in hand size comparisons, the door to your bedroom was to remain open at all times.
but the truth of the matter was that there was simply no need.
mark was hardly ever in your bedroom those days. and much to your disappointment - well, why were you? it's not like you didn't see it coming - he'd gotten friends of his own. friends who grew with him in height and mannerism. who'd say big, nasty words and who's eyes would follow girls down the hallway. who he'd sit and rough house with until teachers had enough and sat him next to the most 'well behaved student' - you - despite his huffing. friends who wouldn't spare you a glance even though you were walking with mark. who'd talk directly to mark as if you weren't even there and steal him away with excuses of baseball practice. or simply because they could.
and mark would go.
and once, you felt your face going hot when one of them scoffed, "sorry, are we stealing you away from your girlfriend?"
mark returned the laugh - you didn't know if he knew you heard or not. you also didn't wanna know - and said, "ew."
laughter.
and if you were anyone else you would've thought about throwing his own baseball bat against his back. but all it did was make you sad. it made you angry. it made you embarrassed. and you didn't know why.
Tumblr media
mark was a growing boy.
you were growing, too.
but you wanted to stay little for as long as you could. and the dread that came with buying newer clothes each passing year left you with a bitter taste in your mouth.
you obsessed over magazines. the pretty girls on social media who's hair looked perfect. who's teeth were whiter. who's skin looked painted on. you're sure
the others in school shared your sentiment.
soon, you had to preoccupy yourself with shaving your arms or your legs or drinking large amounts of water in order to feel something in your tummy.
but mark. .mark never had to worry about that. he was a growing boy. he didn't have to worry about clothes or skincare. he didn't have to watch what he ate.
he was a growing boy.
who cared if he ate half a dozen donuts in one sitting? he was a growing boy.
who cared if all he did was run a few steps in baseball and eat like a chipmunk all the while remaining the same? he was a growing boy!
who cared if he could burp and sneeze loudly, sit like he'd bought the planet, and go outside at night?
.. certainly not you.
but sometimes you wish -
"it's so fucking hot." mark mumbled, hanging off your bed, voice muffled around his - seventh? - donut.
you stared down at the bowl of cotton candy grapes on your lap.
your teeth ached with need.
- . . you were a. . it was easier.
"yeah." you said, squeezing one of the grapes between your index and thumb until the flesh oozed out, shiny and sticky. "i know."
"you almost done?" he asked, turning onto his stomach and wiping the icing off his hands onto your bedding.
the homework sheets in front of you were nearly done. but you'd need a lot more time to finish homework for the both of you. you wonder if your parents knew that mark coming over to do homework just consisted of him distracting you while you did the work.
and maybe they did.
they were always so forgiving to people who weren't you.
in their eyes, you'd ask for advice if he was really taking advantage of you. and none of that whiny complaining of him being too rough, either.
you should've known what you were getting yourself into when you befriended a boy.
boys will be boys. right?
then, he doesn't know his own strength when you were mad at him when one of his playful shoves sent you staggering in front of his friends.
or, he was trying to be funny! lighten up. when he'd grabbed you and groped at your fleshy sides - also in front of his friends.
and most importantly, the two of you had been best friends for so long, there was no reason why something as innocent as you doing a couple of favors for him could cause such turmoil.
you should be nicer to him. i mean, how many other friends do you have?
and that's what the excuses were about.
your parent(s) felt indebted to him. after all, they didn't have the energy to deal with the tides of your mental state: the complex emotions, highs and lows, that only seemed to become that much more apparent as you entered your teenage years.
you imagined how they must’ve thought of you.
it couldn't be that much different than how everyone else did.
mark is so patient, so good at babysitting poor, socially inept you.
but as long as they didn't have to do the heavy lifting, they figured letting mark keep you was their safest bet. it did you good. mark didn't seem burdened. if anything, he seemed happy. he enjoyed taking care of you. and you knew he did. in fact, when he wasn't around his friends. . he was the mark you grew up with.
kind of.
he was still into the same stuff: comics and superhero movies. as long as it was just the two of you. . it wasn't that bad. he cared for you. and he'd show he wasn't all gone when he'd warned you about boys - who, ironically, seemed to perfectly describe his friend group.
don't date them, he'd say, and it reminded you of when you'd gotten that ring pop and he told you you were his.
his protective demeanor wasn't a problem when he had the strength of a six year old. but mark wasn't six anymore. the jealous fits weren't as endearing. he was rowdier. moodier. and he'd grown into his body. . meaning he had the mass to back his words up.
but you weren't cowed by him. not much, anyway.
which caused you to push away the pile of homework and snap, "why don't you do your own fucking homework? it's too much."
you knew the most mark would do was sulk and pout. that's all he ever did when you'd be preoccupied with other things. . or grouped with the opposite sex. but there'd be moments in which you'd caught the flicker of darkness in his eyes whenever the two of you had a disagreement.
when you said no.
"i'm tired after baseball." he said, slowly, like it's something you were supposed to know.
"yeah, well, i'm tired, too!" you huffed.
"yeah? of doing what?"
"of thinking for the both of us."
"you calling me dumb?"
"you said it." you muttered under your breath, doodling onto the page to distract you from the annoyance bubbling inside you.
you didn't notice him getting up. he'd have a habit of sneaking up on you. maybe he was just quiet. or you were just too absent minded to notice. but either way, before you knew it, you were lifted off the floor from around your waist.
you don't even get a chance to react before he pinned you to your bed. the shock causing your face to grow hot before you begin to thrash beneath him, spitting out insults and trying to hit him in any soft spot you could.
but he was faster, stronger.
repeating, "i'm stupid?" while fighting you off like it was nothing.
he'd always had better stamina, and soon, you're tired and pinned beneath him.
and then he. .
just froze above you.
mark's world had gone still. he could sense everything. the air shifted around him and all his attention landed on you. he could feel weak throbbing beneath the palm of his hands as he held your wrists in a two handed grip above your head.
he could smell your perfumed skin. hear the blood soaring through your veins. the heat from your face warmed him like a furnace. and the realization slammed into him like a freight train.
he'd gotten his powers.
you'd brought them out of him.
“um. can I get up now?” you'd whispered from beneath him, flustered. your eyes narrowed towards your door, the one your parent(s) demanded you to keep open at all times.
mark blinked.
then, shuffled off of you with burning cheeks.
you watched him hastily sling his school bag over his shoulder and waddle out of the room. confused, you called after him - you had a test to study for for christ's sake! - but he didn't stop.
you scrambled after him.
but like years before, you couldn't keep up.
he was gone before you even made it out into the hallway.

Tumblr media
"Will you not talk to me at all" Regulus asked looming over you while you sat underneath a tree.
You quickly scribbled in your parchment, "But I am"
Regulus groaned, "No, speak, why are you not speaking, is your throat sore"
"No" You shoved the paper in his face
"Tell me then"
"whyy"
"What do you mean why, you're not speaking, to anyone?" Regulus huffed.
You shrugged, you quill scratching the paper as you scrawled "What if you tell someone?"
"Tell someone what, that your speech language has turned that of a basilisk" Regulus sassed leaning back on the tree which you sat against. You scoffed, "Fine"
You opened your mouth, he stilled, "Is that a mandrake leaf"
You nodded, he seemed to be in thought "Are you trying to be an animagus?". You nodded again.
"So, that's why you were not speaking and here I thought you were intelligent" he retorted smirking.
You tilted your head offensively, he pulled out his wand and mumbled a charm. The mandrake leaf stuck to the roof of your mouth, leaving you to speak as you wish.
"I was gonna think of that soon" you huffed.
He slid down to sit next to you. "So why are you trying to perform such a dangerous and illegal activity..that too without me?"
You groaned resting your face between your knees, "Because James is doing so", you said, beleiving that to be enough of an explanation.
Really you had to pester James for much longer to tell you, at one point you were running after him as he was running away from you,
"James stop" you yelled your breath running short.
James had turned to look back at your horrified gaze, as he slipped on the marble and plummeted to the ground, he gazed up, "Oh, hey gorgeous, did I tell you that you are beautiful from this angle too".
Lily let out an annoyed sound, "Seems like you need to change your glasses Potter". She walked away and this time you ran, James following suit, yelling behind you "Because of you I swallowed it"
Then here you were, following in his prime example. Regulus nodded getting up, brushing his pants, puberty really had hit him this summer. His hair fell slightly down his ears, he had grown taller, voice more mature. He had started to attract quite a bit of attention, which would have been more if he didn't have a resting bitch face in public.
You stared incredously, "Where are you going?"
"To get a leaf for myself" he shrugged as if it was obvious. You shook your head, "It is really dangerous and illegal", you repeated his own words to him.
He snorted, "Says the girl who's doing so herself". You hummed then grinned, glad to have a partner, "Then let's go, shall we"
Surely enough you both had a mandrake leaf in your mouth for a month, you had even managed to avoid getting caught by Amelia who had asked the reason you were eating a leaf.
You had sheepishly smiled, pretending to be embarassed, "I am on this specific leaf diet"
She had nodded and even told you about the different kinds you could incorporate into your diet. You had smiled and thanked her, adapting into your leaf diet, you had felt more like a bowtrukle less a zouwu. However you decided it was best to not tell James, not to mention he will yell at you for doing something so reckless. You instead pestered professor mcgonagoll to tell you hypothetically about it, not suspicious at all.
However your misery was coming to an end when the full moon approached, you both were at the astronomy tower, storing way the phial which contained mixture, now all you had to wait for was an electrical storm, which took longer than the actual process of making the concotion.
"Regulus" you shook the boy, long asleep on the library chair beside you. He opened his eyes groggily, "What?"
You pointed at the window, even though it was middle of the afternoon, the sky had darkened, little grumblings of the clouds could be heard as they clashed onto each other, "An electrical storm" you whispered.
You had decided to go to a secluded place near the magical creature reserve. You had your phial which contained a blood red potion, you looked up once again as the cloud cackled. You knew the consequences of it going wrong but you had taken all precautions to eliminate any chances of happeing so. You looked at Regulus and nodded, placing the wand over your hearts, you both chanted, "Amato Animo Animato Animagus"
You drank the potion and  instantly wanted to throw up, your throat felt itchy, you gripped your throat taking deep breaths, you saw Regulus on his knees through your blurry vision, your ears ringed, you stumbled to the ground, feeling your bones shift, it was  certainly painful. Your eyes blanked, and you make out a figure of an ainimal with red fur .
You opened your eyes to be met with green eyes of a black feline who mewed loudly. You glanced down at your red paws, moving and getting used to walking on all fours, you were a red fox.
You pushed the cat with your snout and it let out a loud hiss, so you decided for fun to pick it up carefully while it began to hiss and claw. You were quite enjoying this.
You thought of your human form, feeling your bones contract painfully but this time less so. The cat Reggie tilted his head, "Aww, you're cute", the cat hissed as if taking offence, his face contorted as he tried to shift back, his nose scrunched, he turned back into Regulus letting out a small, tiny wheeze.
You bursted into laughter which Regulus crossed his arms, his face turned into a pout. "I thought I was gonna be a big scary animal"
"You are" you replied, gazing at his eyes, they really were so green that the trees paled in comparison to its shine. Regulus scoffed, "Well, you are a sly fox"
"A sly fox" you questioned. He nodded, "Yes, you are"
You grinned, "Then you're fuzzy ball". Then he made a face that would have been hissing in his animagus form. "Stop calling me those, I'm scary". The pout resting on his face was adorable too.
Your smiled just grew wider as a drop of rain fell into your cheek, "Very scary reggie, very, I'm sure the 1st years will run seeing you"

It took you both a while to get used to your animagus form but once you did, it felt as easy as breathing. Now that you noticed it, you both did have some of the characteristics of your animal counterparts.
Tumblr media
You groaned as a book was thwacked into your head, you glaced at the culprit, Amelia who stood fuming, "Where the hell were you, we were supposed to meet for lunch?". She sat down beside you at the grand table.
"Sorry, I was studying with Reggie in the library and I lost track of time." Amelia hummed, you knew she wanted to ask something.
"What is it, tell me?" you inquired. Amelia nodded, "Nothing much, just wondering"
You really were confused, "Wondering what?". Amelia seemed to be conflicted, "Alright, but don't take it too seriously, it's just an observation." You nodded.
"Look, I'm not implying it but like are you two together". You tilted your head confused, "Together as in"
Amelia groaned, "Are you two dating?".
"What, no, jeez, No, there's nothing like that, why did you think so?" Your heart raced, you couldn't think how can someone assume so, I mean you two just hanged out like normal people do.
Amelia shrugged, "I mean you two are mostly together-". You cut her off, "Yeah as friends are"
She continued- "Then there's the thing where you look at each other, it's like no one else exists, not to forget, you two always disappear or run off together"
You were flabbergasted, bamboozled even, "No, I mean, no, he doesn't like me like that"
Amelia raised her perfectly shaped eyebrows, "Do you?"
You shook your head, glancing at Regulus who sat a bit away from you, his lips turned upwards as his gaze met yours. You definitely didn't like him like that. He was your bestfriend if you may, thought he was smart, and nice and preety like the stars. But merlin, you didn't like him like that, right?.

Too Hot Too Handle
Summary: You are part of the cast of Too Hot To Handle but so is Rafe. Let's say you didn't get along till a certain workshop.
Warnings: Talking about insecurities, self-doubts, cussing, mention of men using women for other pleasure, Too Hot To Handle season 6 inspired, not proof read, English is not my first language
Pairing: Thth!Rafe x Thth!reader
Tumblr media
You have already seen Rafe Cameron in many dating shows. He was hot, there was no doubt, but he was also an asshole. He was known for making out and sleeping with girls, having them wrapped around his finger, just to ignore them as soon he got what he wanted.
"Are you alright?" The girl next to you asked.
You quickly nodded, "Yeah, just zoned out for a bit."
It was true you zoned out a little bit but it was all Rafe's fault, but let's start at the beginning.
----
It was a sunny Friday afternoon when you got an email with everything you need to know about your time on 'Too Hot To Handle'. The problem was, that you never wanted to be a part of that show, so why was Netflix reaching out to you?
You immediately called your best friend about the email, but she wasn't as shocked as you. She was the one who sent your application to Netflix since she wanted you to loosen up a little and have a fun summer.
It wasn't like you couldn't have fun, you just wanted something genuine and not some meaningless flirts and one-night stands here and there. Best conditions for Too Hot To Handle.
----
It was a weird feeling being recorded all day, but you tried your best to calm yourself and remind yourself about the fact that everything would be fine. You were a little introverted, but you were also confident and ready for this new experience.
You walked in by yourself in a tiny black bikini, waving at the people who were already standing by a table, drinking champagne.
"Oh my god, girl, you look stunning." A beautiful blond girl smiled at you, hugging you instantly.
Everyone complimented at least one thing about you, which you could just return, the people here were definitely hot.
Chad, one of the guys, handed you a glass of the pearly liquor, "So, you are from the US?"
You nodded, "I am from California, yeah."
"Well, in case you haven't noticed till now, I am British." He chuckled a little.
"The accent gave it away." You took a sip of your glass.
As he was about to say something once again, someone else came down the stairs.
No.Fucking.Way. Why was Rafe Cameron here? Not a single person here was popular, except for him.
"Well, hello," He said with his typical smirk, greeting everyone.
"God he's so hot," Lucy sighed, nearly drooling.
The other girls were quick to agree while you just rolled your eyes.
It was true he was hot but there was nothing else behind that pretty face and toned body.
----
After everybody introduced themself, you all started to explore the villa. Guliana and you sat down on one of the beds and started gossiping, "Tell me, who's your type?"
She seemed to think about it for a few seconds before she slightly shook her head, "Chad looks good, Rafe too, but there is no one who really catches me. You know what I mean?"
"Yeah, everyone here is handsome, but I can't imagine myself with someone of them." You answered honestly.
"I bet everyone else already started to make out with each other," She giggled and you couldn't help but do the same.
However, you two were interrupted by a certain blue-eyed guy, "Seems like you two have a good time."
"How many rules did you break by now?" Guliana asked him, laughing.
"I haven't seen Lana till now, so everything is fine." He smirked, sitting down next to you.
You moved away from him a little, feeling slightly intimidated by his presence. "No offence, but I have seen some of your shows, and Too Hot To Handle would have been the last show I would have thought to see you in."
Rafe shrugged, "I am here to have some fun and win some money, nothing's wrong with that."
"And I bet almost every girl here would love to have some fun with you." The blond girl chuckled, playing with her skirt.
"Well, I am not picky. Every girl in here is hot as hell." Rafe answered cockily.
Rafe Cameron was even more arrogant in person, who would have thought that was possible?
"You aren't much of a talker, huh?" He suddenly said, looking at you intensely.
"I love to analyse, that's all." You smiled back sweetly.
"Oh, so what do you think of me? Tell me what you could analyse about me till now" He questioned with way too much confidence.
You couldn't believe this guy. He was impossible.
"That's for me to know. I will get a drink now" You mumbled, standing up and leaving the room.
----
That was the first and last time you talked to Rafe since Lana made her arrival last night, telling Rafe and Bri that they had to leave the retreat because they were too horny to be true.
You felt at ease now that Rafe was gone. You didn't know why but there was something about him you didn't like, however, it didn't matter anymore since Rafe was no longer part of the show, or so you thought.
When Bri and he came to the retreat once again, they told you about their 24-hour punishment.
"Guys, we have to be more responsible when it comes to our money, " Guliana sighed.
"Yeah, she's right, you all keep it in your pants." You mumbled, as loud for everyone to hear.
Rafe let out a chuckle, "Come on, just because you are too prude to make out with someone, you don't have to be so rude."
"First of all, it's not rude if I want you to behave and second I know how to have fun, I simply don't want everyone's tongue down my throat.", You rolled your eyes at him, clearly pissed.
----
The next days were all the same - people spent money on all kinds of sexual acts. That way the reason why Lana decided it was time for a workshop.
You all got paired up with someone you had no connection and surprise your partner was Rafe.
"Today's workshop is all about being honest and peeling back the layers. I am here to help you make a deeper connection with yourself, so you can make a deeper connection with your partner. All right, it's time to pick up those mirrors in front of you. Take it and look at yourself in it. What do you see?" The workshop leader asked.
"I see a Latina mamacita over here, of course!" Flavia giggled.
"Hot, toned, good-looking," Rafe was the next to answer.
You also looked in the mirror, your eyes glancing at every aspect of your body. You were confident, yes, but everyone had some insecurities deep down.
The others, however, seemed to love their looks as much as they could.
"Little booties matter! I can see it!"
"A little tiny waist."
"A nice little rack."
"I like my lips. I like my eyes."
"I like my hair."
The workshop leader let out a chuckle, "Alright, y'all. One second. I want you to start thinking about who you are behind what you are looking at in the mirror. Does anybody here feel like you have to put up a front? To put up a facade?"
Everybody slowly started to raise their hand, and you as well.
"If we can't be honest and real with ourselves, who can we keep it real with? Nobody," He went on, while everybody looked a little closer at themselves, "Look at yourself again. Is it the actual real you? Or is it a facade?"
Slowly, people began opening up about their feelings. It was amazing to see their masks gradually coming off.
"Y/n, what do you feel you have to portray to the world?" Now it was your time, to be honest.
" I feel like I have to keep my walls up so people don't hurt me. In my past, I tended to get attached to guys way too easily and they used that against me," You let out a quiet sob as you thought about your past, "I just want to be loved like everyone else. I know I look good but deep down I have these doubts. Is my waist too thin or too thick? Do I really like my nose? Am I too short? Why do I not have curves like the others? I think I started to doubt myself because I was constantly used by men."
That was the truth, and you felt embarrassed to admit it.
"Rafe, give her a hug for me, mate," Demari told him. The two of you have become quite good friends in the last few days.
Rafe looked down at you for a moment before he carefully wrapped his arms around you, hugging you tightly. It was strange but somehow it felt good.
"Rafe, what about you? What do you feel you have to put on for the world?" The workshop leader asked him.
He let go of you slowly and looked at himself in the mirror, "I know I look good and in the past, I have often used that privilege to get what I wanted. I have always gotten what I wanted and I made sure to keep it that way, but the truth is I am scared. I am scared to let a woman hurt me, so I leave them before they can do the same to me. Sometimes I also doubt the fact that I can be a good boyfriend or husband one day. I don't want to have children just to fuck them up as well."
You felt sorry when you heard those words. As soon as he was done speaking, you hugged him as tightly as he had hugged you before.
After a few seconds, you felt him wrapping his arms around you as well. You weren't sure how long you stayed like this but as the workshop was done he let go of you.
You didn't know how to feel but something in you told you that for the first time in his life, Rafe also didn't know what to do.

Please tell me your thoughts on this on because I am kinda proud of it🥹

summary- You’re offered your first modeling gig, and it’s with a super hot hungarian football player named Dominik.
warnings- fluff, reader is modeling for the first time
a/n- hey guys! i’ve been inactive for a while and still deciding if im gonna continue the domi series (summer baby) or just do imagines/ one shots. anyways heres something for ya!
You could have sworn Bailee was crazy when she signed you up for that modeling audition. She took your headshots herself, priding herself on getting all of the right angles. Those pictures had took at least five hours, but they must have paid off because here you were, getting a call back from Nike.
Though it wasn’t the most glamorous brand, it was a huge brand. You knew people would see whatever you wore and you were excited to do it.
Nike had called you asking if you had ever played or watched football, and your response was perfect for them. You loved football ever since you were a kid and still watch it as an adult.
Satisfied with your answer they told you to come in at 6 am Saturday for the shoot and they would get things started.
Jittery and somewhat tired, you showed up to the job ready to see your outfit.
A nice security guard named Lewis escorted you to your dressing room where a woman was waiting for you with a rack of clothes and a carrier case of makeup and hair tools.
Her name was Milly and she was to prepare you for the shoot.
“I heard the guy you’re shooting with is a football player himself. I think it’s someone who wears those Nike boots on the pitch?” She told you while brushing the roots of your hair out and applying some product to it.
“Really? I wonder if I’ve heard of him.” You told her.
She nodded. “He’s hot anyway, I saw him walking in. He was like a greek god mixed with an angel,” You laughed at Milly.
She put your hair up into a slick back ponytail and then braided the ponytail.
Thanking her, you looked at the outfit laid out for you.
You were to start the shoot in Nike pros, a white sports bra and Nike Blazers, with some nike socks under them. Emerging from your dressing room in your outfit, you spoke with someone who you assumed was directing the shoot because of what he was wearing, and his very evident supremacy in the room.
He told you not to worry about the shoot, and you were all just there to have fun.
You began your solo part of the shoot, in this outfit taking probably about a hundred photos
While you were shooting, you saw a man come out of his dressing room, in a black nike compression shirt and shorts with air force 1 shoes on. He was tattooed, with a chiseled jawline and gelled hair.
You knew who he was.
Anyone with half of a brain in the football world knew who he was, but you had been crushing on him since he transferred from Leipzig to Liverpool.
That was Dominik Szoboszlai.
Trying to avoid his eyes, you kept focusing, eyes locked on the camera.
When your eyes met his, even for just the split second that they did, he bit his lip and raised his eyebrows.
“Y/n, can you pick up the football and rest it under your arm?” The directior asked you.
You did as you were told, “ah yes! perfect.” The photographer took probably a hundred photos of you like that before calling Dominik over.
You went to move and the director put his hands out to stop you.
“no, no hold that pose, we’re just adding Dominik into the picture,”
He directed Dominik to join you and put his arm around you for a duo picture.
You looked pretty short next to him, and your heart was racing.
You two held the pose for a while and took some various other photos.
“I need to grab a water, but stay there, You two can move about but stay on set,” The director told you and Dominik.
You nodded, dropping the nike football to the floor and doing kick ups as a challenge to yourself.
“Pass it over, let’s play together,” Dominik said in an accent that somehow made your heart melt.
You passed around for a few minutes like this, bantering with each other, unaware of the photographer taking hundreds of candid photos of you and Dominik.
He was laughing, you were laughing, and it was the most fun you’d had in a while.
There was chemistry between the two of you, and you couldn’t tell if you were imagining it or not, but everything just came natural for you.
Soon, it was time for his individual shoot, but you stood where he had stood watching.
He made eye contact with you a dozen times and winked when the photographer’s back had been turned.
You had definitely not imagined that.
When the day was done, you returned to your dressing room and changed into a square neck black top and some light jeans.
You noticed a bag of goodies like clothes and PR from Nike to you, including the 23/24 third liverpool kit, with the name Szoboszlai on the back. You smiled, thinking back on how you thought the purple had looked best on him.
Someone knocked on your dressing room door, and you made your way there and opened it.
“hi,” Dominik said, wearing a white eyelet style button up,
“Hey Dominik, whats up?” you asked him releasing a deep breath that you didn’t know you were holding in.
“Domi,” he said. “You can call me Domi,”
He smiled and you met his eyes. Suddenly, as if remembering what he had came here for, he began to speak again.
“I came here to ask you if you’d like to go to dinner with me after this?” He smirked.
“Are you asking me on a date Domi?” You asked.
His head tilted. “You are quite beautiful,” He said.
“and you are quite handsome,” you told him.
“So it’s a date?” He asked.
“Yes, it is.” You told him.
“Shall we?” He asked reaching for your hand.
You nodded and interlocked your fingers in his.
That just so happened to become your first of many modeling jobs and dates with your now-boyfriend Dominik.
A/n - ugh i’ve had this written for a month im so sorry!! Its also kinda cringey so idk.

A day with farmer Kita
Fluff, She/Her pronuns, mention of sex
After the wedding you and Kita moved to the countryside because of his work in the fields, you, working from home, have no problems due to the distance from the big city. Since the wedding night you have completely abandoned the use of condoms, lovingly welcoming what was to come.
One of the usual days Kita wake up at 5 am and, as usual, go to the field and you put a little ritual during summer, with the help of the childrens that came out from your love. When the kids dont have school, kindergarten or nursery, so during summer you keep your hudsband Kita healthy with them.
Kita is now working since 6 am in the field, sweating till 10 o clock. As he worked, he heard footsteps approaching behind him. He glances behind him only to find his oldest son, Hiro, walking over him.
Hiro: Papa! I brought you cold water!
Kita smiled at him, standing up and accepting the water from his hands.
"Thank you, my boy." He said and ruffled his hair affectionately. At 11:30 the other siblings run to him too.
Sakura: Papa! I brought you a popsicle. Kita chuckled as his other daughter, Sakura, came running to him, holding a popsicle. He smiled at her and knelt down to her eye level.
"Thank you, princess." He said as he pat her head softly.
Later, he continued working, but this time, his second youngest son, Akira, came over, holding an armful of snacks and food.
"Papa, here you go." The boy said with a big smile. Kita felt his heart swell with love. He kneeled down and wrapped his arm around the boy's shoulder, ruffling his hair affectionately.
"Thank you, baby." He said tenderly and kissed his forehead.
Everyday is like this, till 16:00, when Hiro and Sakura brought him cold lemonade, water and fresh fruits. Kita has been noticing how Hiro and Sakura bring him stuff lately everyday. He found it endearing, especially how they seemed determined to make him stay hydrated and fed under the hot summer sun.
He smiled at them, taking the cold lemonade and the fresh fruit you had brought from the market town.
"That's some more stuff you got for me. Thank you, my darlings."
Hiro: mum say you can get tired in the hot, she is working from computer and she gave us water to refill your bottles and healthy snacks and popsicle!
Kita chuckles at that, giving them an amused smile. He should've known you were behind this. You worried about him more than himself does.
"Mama always knows best, huh?" He said with a nod. He took a small break and started eating and drinking. The cold lemonade felt refreshing as it went down his dry throat.
He pats the space beside him, beckoning his two eldest, Hiro and Sakura, to sit next to him. The two of them looked at each other before moving over, sitting beside Kita between his legs. Kita wrapped his arms around them both, pulling them close to his body.
He couldn't help himself, as he kisses the top of their heads affectionately. Kita was so immersed in doting on his eldest two that he didn't notice the third one coming until he felt the cold wetness of the towel on his forehead. He jolts out of surprise before chuckling, knowing it's only Yuu, his third son. "Ah, and here's the surprise attack." He joked. He pats Yuu's head, silently thanking him for the towel that'll cool his face from the heat. He leaned back a bit, the two older kids still cuddled against his body. Yuu was sitting in front of him, peering at him with those wide, innocent eyes. Kita felt that familiar warm feeling in his chest, looking at his adorable kids. Kita loved his family for always giving him an excuse to stop his work and take a break.
He always loved the fact that you gave the kids small tasks to be around you both and feel 'adult'. Still, he's not complaining. Having breaks and being doted on by his own kids? He'll take it. As he enjoyed the fresh fruit and the tasty popsticle, he kept on giving out affection to his kids. He loved how all of them just seeked his warmth and comfort. He even let them take turns sitting on his lap while he pats their heads fondly.
Hiro: you know dad since i am 10 now i am older! I'm a man! Kita glances down at him after hearing his son's serious declaration. He bit back a smile, humoring him, and nodded with a straight face.
"Oh, you are a man now, hmm?" He said in a teasing tone.
Hiro: When i will be adult i will marry someone nice and gentle like mum and be a great and strong man like you.
Kita couldn't help the warm and proud smile spreading on his lips as he hears his son's declaration. He pats Hiro's head affectionately.
"You're on the right path then." He said with a nod of approval. Kita and you have seven children in total, and all of them are doing well in school. They all had different skills sets they're good at. You've also been teaching them how to play the piano, which is impressive because playing instruments is a rare skill.
Kita has been thankful to have been able to provide for his family well, since the farms have been flourishing all the years after he started it. You working from home is also a big plus in the family's financial situation. Kita smiled as he looked over his kids who were sitting around him. He never thought he'll become so lucky.
He never expected that you, the love of his life, would have given him such a big family, filled with so much love and warmth. Kita watched his kids return back to the house with a small smile and continued on working with his two hired workers.
They worked in comfortable silence, as Kita focused on his work while glancing at the house every now and then. The afternoon went by quickly, and Kita felt his back starting to ache. But that won't stop him.
He continued to work like the hard worker he is, determined to get all the work done so he could get back home to his lovely family. At 7 pm Kita finally went back home after the whole day's work was done. He sighed deeply, feeling the exhaustion settling in. His back ached, and his feet were tired from standing all day. But the thought of you and the kids waiting for him at home gave him the energy to keep moving.
He pushed open the door and stepped inside, announcing his arrival with a soft "I'm home."
"My love" you say, as you kiss him. "I made you a scent bubble bath, why don't you go and relax while me and Hiro make dinner?"
Kita leaned into the kiss, savoring the feeling of your lips on his. He rested his forehead against yours, taking a deep breath.
"That sounds wonderful." He said, his voice tinged with exhaustion. His body visibly relaxed as he imagined the soothing effect of a nice, hot bath on his sore muscles.
"I'll go take a bath then."
He kissed your forehead before heading upstairs to the bathroom. The image of a hot bubble bath with soothing scents beckoned him forward, promising respite for his weary body. He quickly undressed and stepped into the tub, sinking into the warm water with a deep sigh of relief. The hot water enveloped him, its heat seeping into his aching muscles, soothing and rejuvenating him. Kita leaned back against the tub, closing his eyes as he let the water and the scent of the bubbles work its magic on his sore body.
He felt his tension slowly melting away as the steam enveloped the room, and the fragrance filled his senses. He exhaled deeply, feeling the weight of the day slowly lifting off his shoulders.
Kita was startled out of his relaxation by the sound of the bathroom door opening. He looked over to see Kyra, your 4-year-old, peering at him from the doorway, with her big, innocent eyes.
"Kyra, sweetheart, what are you doing here?" He asked, a smile playing on his lips
Kyra: Papa quack quack.
Kita chuckled softly as he watched Kyra approach him with the rubber duck toy. Her innocent and playful demeanor never failed to warm his heart.
He leaned forward, taking the toy from her tiny hand and holding it up for her to see.
"Ah, it's the little duck again. Does he want to take a bath with me?"
Kyra: papa can play while bubble bath. I go help mummy
Kita chuckled again, feeling a wave of affection for his little daughter. He nodded at her, patting her head gently.
"Alright, sweetheart. Papa will play while in the bubble bath. You go and help Mama." Kyra beamed at him with her innocent smile before turning and running off. Kita watched after her for a moment, before his attention returned to the rubber duck toy in his hand. He smiled, feeling touched by the little things his kids do. He began to make the toy 'swim' around in the water, creating a little narrative with the 'little duck' for his own amusement. Despite the exhaustion from work, Kita found comfort in the simplicity of playing with a toy, surrounded by the warmth of the water and the soothing scent of the bubble bath. As he played, Kita allowed his mind to relax as well. He let all his worries and fatigue float away, replaced by the sense of contentment and tranquility.

rested on your inner thigh as he drove back to Abel's school to pick him up. Silence echoed through the car, but it was welcomed after the physical activities that had just taken place. Your head leaned back into the head rest of the seat, rolling slightly from the laxed state you were currently in.
A rumble from John brought you back to attention. "Ya' alrigh' love?" he asked.
Turning your head to look at him you smiled and nodded. "I am." Hand reaching down to squeeze his. His eyes returned to the road, pulling into the school lot where Abel awaited outside the front with a group of kids. Noticing the car, he picked up his bookbag and what looked to be his bag of goodies he had acquired from his field trip. A grin placed upon his face stretched ear to ear.
"How was your day?" The normal question you asked as soon as you saw him at the end of the day.
"Great!" he said rustling around his bag. "I got something for you, John." Reaching forward you noticed he had an opal stone in his hand. It matched the one that was on your left finger.
"I thought it looked like Mom's and should give it to you. They had a bunch of fossils and rocks."
Leave it to your boy to remain so kind, thinking of others even when he is given money for himself. John's long calloused fingers passed the stone back and forth between his fingers.
"Was nice of you Abel," turning around in your seat fully to take in his beaming face entirely. "Did you get anything for yourself?"
"Couple of dinosaur models," he answered reaching back in the bag to show them to you.
John was only able to look at the stone, feeling shell shocked by the gift unable to explain why. The gift caused the gears to turn in his head.
"Thank you," John murmured quietly, turning his head over his shoulder to look at Abel. Still beaming his happiness on you both.
"What do you wanta' do today?" John asked. "Anywhere you want to go?" Still looking over at Abel.
"Pete's Pizza!" Abel exclaimed to him. Pete's Pizza was a restaurant with an arcade with kids games. Generally, you took him on his birthday, but figured it was fitting to celebrate today.
"Pete's Pizza it is." Placing the car into gear once more and starting in that direction.
Standing back on your wild night out, you watched Abel with John most of the time. Their interaction heartwarming. Your ex never gave you the chance to witness this opportunity…maybe if he had things would be different between the two of you.
They both played the games for a few hours before ordering pizza. Making sure it was Abel's favorite to end his perfect day. Walking outside, it was that perfect balance between spring and almost summer. The sun lazily going down behind the buildings of the city, casting long shadows on the sidewalks, the streetlights coming on.
This was always your favorite time of the day. Normally, this was the time you bonded with Abel the most, ending it on your way home from work. Instead, you got to spend more time with him today, making core memories. You wish it could be like this all the time.
It was the drive home you realized you didn't know how this would turn out. Would John want to stay with you at your place? You were just freshly married as of today. Or would he want to go back to his place of residence and live the life you knew little about.
Seeming as he could tell once again stressing, John reached over and took her hand placing it on the center console with his. Thumb stroking over the ring. Practice he seems to do often. John started asking questions about what Abel saw today, his favorite part, what he would do again if given the opportunity. For not having children he was slipping into this role quiet well. Listening to Abel speak, and John's swiping motion soothing your worried brain once more.
Once home, a later hour than you are ever unwinding, you started the bed time routine.
"Love, let's watch a movie on the couch. All of us, let the boy pick." John offered up instead, not wanting to end this good day entirely. Settling down on the couch, you placed yourself in between John's legs leaning into his chest while Abel laid down on the other side. Abel was already in his pajamas, snuggling a blanket and a pillow tuned into the tv.
John's large hand began betting down your hair, smoothing it against you.
"You don' have to work anymore if you don' wan to…" his voice lolled underneath of you, hot breath brushing against your ear. "Make enough you could stay home."
It had caught you off guard, glancing over at Abel you see he had fallen asleep more then likely why John was starting this conversation. Keeping a low octave matching John's, "You've done more than enough. Allowing me to use your lawyer is a debt I can never repay."
"Lawyer is free. And you're already doin' somethin' else for this old man," hand slipping from the top of your head and pressing against your stomach. "35, and want one of my own," his brown pits of honey looking up at Abel. "Love that kid like my own but want as many as you're willin' to give me. Don' have to work anymore." He repeated. Laying your head back against his chest, allowing him to rest against the top of yours.
"Can't leave Kate hanging… She's done so much for me."
"So go part time. Work lunch while Abel is at school. Be off when he's done."
Thinking it over, it would be a way to make your own income still. Abel being away at school even when you move into the new house, boredom would more than likely set in.
"Not a bad idea…"
"There will be times I won't be here," his tone direct. "But we can have nights like this when I am. Everythin' is going to be taken care of one way or another. Want to meet with the lawyer on Monday before things start to get rollin' though… And if you're ok with it, I'd like to take Abel out this weekend to go fishin' with me and the other boys."
"Boys," you said jokingly, knowing which "boys" he was referring to. "You're not much older than them."
"Old enough that they are my boys still. Act like children sometimes…most times but act right when the time comes." A warm smile on his face while he spoke of them. Returning to his original thought and conversation, he gave a light shake of his head. "Will only take him if you’re comfortable. Figure getting to spend time with him is important right now so he learns to trust me… and maybe hanging out with men who are good men might not be a bad idea." His last comment sly, trying to give a dig at your ex.
"You just called them boys a few seconds ago," a light laughing scoff leaving you.
"My boys are men compared to him." A dark undertone coating his comment. "Know for a fact none of them would ever treat you like something stuck to the bottom of their shoe."
Hesitant still, but giving the first answer that came to mind wanting to end the conversation about your ex. "If Abel wants to go, I'm more than willing to let him."
His hand resuming to pet your hair once more after your answer. Abel stirring at the end of the couch caught both of your attention. He was still sleeping but looking rather uncomfortable in his corner.
"Goin' t' take him to bed. Sit tight," John said leaning forward from behind you and slipping out. Watching his large figure bending down and picking Abel up as if he weighed nothing and carrying him off. Abel's head slouched against John's shoulder making you smile. You couldn't help but wonder if his actual father does the same thing for him at his house.
It wasn't too long before John was back in the living room, long shadow stretching out on the floor first before his he entered the room. He stood in the doorway of the living room off the hallway, a smile on his face while he looked at you. There was something dark about this smile, but his eyes glinted with mischief.
"He's tucked in," arms extending up as he leaned against the door frame, "Still out like a light."
"What are you askin'?" shifting slightly, a coy smile on your face, fully knowing what he was suggesting.
He didn't answer, instead he almost sauntered to you before he pounced on to the couch. Pressing you against the cushions, mouth and teeth attached to your neck and shoulder working their way up to your ear.
"You sang earlier, think you can be quiet this time? Can't be waking Abel now…" He was teasing you, a hand already in the top of your dress, the other reaching up your skirt not giving you the chance to answer. Fingers pinching a rosey peak of your breast and hooking your already come soiled panties from earlier and pulling them down. When you arrived home he didn't even give you the chance to change... he didn't care. Burying your face into his shoulder biting down to be able to stay quiet, saving yourself the embarrassment of waking your son.
The happiness from today left John blinded. He was unaware of the tail that had followed you both most of the day. In the shadows your ex had followed you to the courthouse, out to the new house property and bearing witness to the acts of a new marriage.
Rage building within him, but what really made him upset was John entertaining Abel… and you just standing by idle allowing it to happen. Playing games and sharing dinner with him. Here this man you barely knew, swooped in and saved you. Made sure you and Abel were safe and was willing to lay down and bleed for you. And bleed he shall, your ex thought. A plan was forming in his head… but he just needed John to step away for only a moment before he would swoop in. Sink his claws into you and surely Abel will follow.

Your second journey by Bifrost was no more bearable than the first, leaving your head swimming and your stomach roiling as you came to a stop.
Thor laughed heartily and slapped Loki on the back, exchanging jovial words about your trist at the Golden Palace, no doubt. The god seemed to have no filter and no qualms about discussing your private life, even in the open square of Tønsberg.
With a gentle hand on your back, Loki led you forwards, your eyes still on the cobblestones while you attempted to get your bearings without being sick.
“Welcome back!” Brunnhilde’s voice carried across the harbour and you finally took the opportunity to take in your surroundings. In your haste to get away from the Avengers you had forgotten what had happened the last time you walked along the sea front of Tønsberg and suddenly it all came swimming back. The queasy feeling in your stomach intensified. “I worried we’d never see you hear again,” she strode across the sea soaked front, her arms wide and welcoming, “but we are happy to welcome you back.”
Thor opened his arms in return, beaming and ready to embrace the King of Asgard, but she bypassed him entirely and wrapped her arms around your middle, pulling you away from Loki and lifting your toes off the ground with the ferocity of her embrace.
“It’s good to see you as well, Brunnhilde.” The panic that had begun to rise ebbed away, and then there was another pressure at your back and Thor enveloped you in a bear hug, squeezing you into Brunnhilde.
“Loki’s little trouble maker, back in Tønsberg, I am so happy.” He thrilled, resting his cheek on top of your head and rubbing your arms. “I always wanted a sister-” he paused, “well, a sister that didn’t want to destroy everything -” You both went still as you remembered the prophecy left by Frigga. Thor floundered for words. “Anyway, we shall feast and drink and celebrate your return, I am sure. You are most welcome.”
“That’s quite enough,” Loki coughed, finding your hand again and guiding you, now slightly ruffled, back to his side. You stood on your tip toes and placed a wet kiss on his cheek, nuzzling him with your nose.
“Don’t be jealous,” you teased, and his arm around you tightened.
“Jealous? I am not jealous, I am concerned. I left you here once and -”
 Jealous
You allowed the thought to float to him and watched as his eyes darkened.
I am not jealous of that oaf, merely protective. Surely that is allowed after two kidnapping attempts.
Brunnhilde’s eyes drifted from Loki to your face, watching as it dropped and your shoulders tensed, “-let’s not concern ourselves with the past. Let’s look to the future, come inside we just finished a council meeting so the hall is empty.” She turned and led the way towards the long hall, pulling her suit jacket tight around her middle against the biting wind whipping from the sea. While it’d been cold in America, here it was icy, but before you could shiver you felt the ring of Loki’s magic and a navy blue peacoat engulfed you, the inside already warm. You looked over at Loki, surprised that he wouldn’t put you in his own colours, and he merely smiled, looking out on the sea and pretending he hadn’t noticed your new attire, but you couldn’t help but notice the twinkle of emerald green in each shining button.
You looked out too, seeing the waves on the horizon cresting and falling, the gulls circling the frothing water and steadied yourself to take in Tønsberg with fresh eyes.
At your first visit, you’d visited Brunnhilde’s cottage, tucked away two streets back from the harbour, inconspicuous and modest. Now she was leading you towards the long, low building that stood in the centre of the main thoroughfare opposite the harbour. Above the door there was a symbol, tall lines forming a pyramid in a strangely familiar way.
Asgard’s Palace
Loki looked up too, taking your hand, this is the new symbol of Asgard and our rebuilt court. Welcome, Princess.
Princess. You hadn’t considered your role here either, that you weren’t just a visitor, but a royal visitor, at the pleasure of the Royal court, small as it was, modest as the Long Hall appeared. And your heart swelled with pride and belonging. Loki squeezed your hand again, the same pride reflected in his eyes.
You looked around again, viewing the village with fresh eyes.
Behind the village itself, building work had started on further homes and the dock, which on your previous visit only held a few fishing boats, was full of tourist vessels bobbing next to wooden row boats.
Thor opened the door of the long building, waving his arm for you to enter.
“Welcome to the Asgardian Court, Princess Estrid.” Thor bowed as you passed and you heard the unmistakable sound of Loki smacking him playfully on the back of the head as he followed.
Inside the hall was reassuringly simple and looked very much like the village halls you had seen once or twice during your time in London. The noticeboard was full of flyers for music lessons, hobby groups and items for sale, a few images of a village fete and a sign up list for organising events had a few scrawled names, but no contact details. You sighed in relief, half expecting to be thrown back into the excess of the Golden Palace alongside its rules and regulations. But life in the Long Hall seemed much more relaxed and familiar.
A few people were moving chairs around, stacking them at the edges of the room, calling to each other as they worked. The smell of brewing tea and freshly baked biscuits wafted from the open hatch to the kitchen where a group of older Asgardians carefully placed doilies on trays and arranged mugs.
The only out of place item was a blue and gold velvet curtain that decorated a dais at one end of the room. Even in the winter light the floor to ceiling windows let in enough light to make the gold brocade shine.
“Sorry, it’s - King stuff, you know?” Brunnhilde shrugged, almost embarrassed by the pdecadence of the set u[, and waved to another Asgardian in the kitchen, holding her hand up and mouthing drinking, a chorus of ‘just a minute’ responded and before you knew it there was a table set in the middle of the hall, drinks and food covering the surface.
“By Loki’s face I’m assuming this is more than a social call,” Brunnhilde asked, pouring a large cup of tea into a pint sized mug with Authentic Asgardian Mead printed on the side.
“Wise as ever,” Loki smiled, “we have come to ask you more questions about Estrid.” Under the table he took your hand, twining your fingers together. “We met another god, claiming to know her, he attempted to kidnap her and - we heard a prophecy.”
Brunnhilde lent into her chair, rocking it on its legs while Loki described your encounter during the Avenger’s mission and raising an eyebrow at his admission that a prophecy was involved.
“Well, you’ve certainly been busy, I thought she’d keep you out of trouble, not get you into more of it.” She grinned and Thor laughed, shaking his brother’s shoulder.
“She surely is Trouble,” Thor smiled indulgently, ruffling the top of your head.
“But Loki says he couldn’t see him, he was tall, he had this spear -” suddenly it all bubbled to the surface and you had to get it out, everything you’d seen, what had happened. Between sips of the tea that appeared in front of you, you told Brunnhilde everything.
“Lugh,” Brunnhilde said, thoughtfully, “it was a five pointed spear, correct?”
You both nodded and Brunnhilde rocked her chair again, “definitely Lugh, and he knew your mother? And that you should go with him?” She raised an eyebrow again before looking away thoughtfully.
“He said it over and over, he wanted me to go with him, and said it wasn’t safe for me.” The legs of her chair hit the floor with a thump.
“And now tell me about the prophecy.”
Loki took the marble from his pocket and placed the halves together again, releasing the voice of his mother into the room. The Asgardians fell silent, those still tidying from the council meeting stopped and bowed their heads at the memory of their fallen Queen.
“I saw a vision of a flock in chaos, a singular lamb frolicked in its midst, a lamb with a fiery fleece. It has burnt the farm. But from the ashes rises lush land, strong crops and healthy babes. I have told this vision to my husband, and Lugh, he does not believe me when I say she is no threat, he believes this to be a prophecy of Ragnarok, he cannot see the verdant land beyond the fire. You must hide the girl, my friend, I can protect her no longer.”
“Frigga,” Brunnhilde whispered, “she had many visions but, I can’t understand why you think this pertains to you?” She turned to you, studying your face. “We have no idea why Frigga sent this to Lugh, if you are the lamb mentioned or the girl. I do not see why he should be involved or concerned with you at all.”
“They were friends, were they not?” One of the villagers said from the kitchen, leaning through the hatch, “Lugh and Brigid, they were firm friends, often talking at the events. Frigga knew Lugh by associate as well. Perhaps that’s why?”
“Yes, yes,” another agreed. “He was always chatting to the women folk, a kind, gentle man, never married himself mind.” Another dropped off a plate of kanelbulle, the deep scent of cinnamon wafting down the table.
“Perhaps it’s time the girl heard all,” the time roughened voice came from behind you this time but there were many nods and noises of agreement throughout the room.
Brunnhilde looked uncomfortable, but settled in her chair nonetheless. “Your mother was married to a man called Bres, a god of sorts who joined with your mother’s pantheon, he even became King, for a time. He was a Midgardian god as Odin was, residing in a place called the Otherworld. He was deeply unpopular, I didn’t want to upset you, when you visited before, you and Loki looked so happy I - I’m sorry. I should have told you, he was not a well liked God, but I wanted to spare you. Your mother though,” a ripple of happy sighs and murmers fluttered around the room and you were instantly self conscious. “She was very well liked, she visited Asgard many times.”
“So… why did she marry this Bres? Is he my father?”
“They didn’t love each other did they?” Tears welled in your eyes, for all your fears that you’d be sold into a loveless, political marriage, it had never occured to you that this fate had already befallen your mother.
“No, I’m sorry, I believe that your mother, Brigid, loved another. Though I’m not sure who. But Bres is not your father, your mother was already pregnant, you see, when the marriage was arranged and you were born just before the ceremony. Your mother was a free spirit, she liked to travel and make friends, she brought back floral and fauna, stories and trinkets, art, crafts and, after a longer journey. You.”
The four of you sat in silence for a few moments, contemplating what Brunnhilde had said. Bres really should have been your father and, officially, he was. But your mother didn’t love him and they weren’t married when you were born - your head swam with new information.
“I remember.” A voice coughed behind you, stuttering through the passages of time, the stooped Asgardian shuffled around the table. Thor stood and offered her his seat, sliding the chair back into place and standing regally behind it.
“Please,” you reached your free hand across the table towards the woman, considering Loki was easily two thousand years old, the woman must have been ancient, her face creased with memories, her skin paper thin. “I remember you,” and the memory lit up her eyes, “Estrid, Brigidsdotter, you brought so much joy to the palace, small one. And your mother loved you very much, so much that she brought you many times to spare you from Bres.” At his name the woman looked angry, her lips pursing.
“She did?” Your eyes welled with tears, you had wondered why you were left on Asgard so much, how you’d come to know the Princes so well if your mother had loved you.
“My dear small one, you are young, you will learn, sometimes loss is its own kind of affection, she took that burden for you, to protect you.” She paused to cough and you offered her a cup of tea from the pot. “Thank you, always so kind - He was not kind though, he came to you once and there was such shouting as you have never heard, the palace rocked with the sound of it - and in the morning,” she coughed again, “you were gone, small one, the boys, they had forgotten it all.” She reached a hand up and Thor took it between his palms as gently as if he held a small bird.
“We forgot?” He asked.
“You all forgot, she made you, the Queen, it was for the best for you to forget, so that it would not hurt you to be separated. Especially you, Prince of Mischief.” He eyes twinkled as she smiled at Loki. “I assumed it was to hide you from Bres again, but then Odin sent out a party to search for you.” She hummed, eyes closing a second longer than necessary when she blinked.
“He wanted her back? Safe?” Loki asked.
“He wanted to imprison you I suppose.” She coughed and brought a handkerchief from the sleeve of her cardigan. “You,who had brought so much joy and so much trouble to his doorstep, he was afraid of you.” She laughed but it turned into another wet, painful, cough.
Loki shook his head, “how can that be, the Allfather, afraid of a girl -” he turned to you quickly, “no offence meant, my Darling,” he brought your hand to his lips and kissed your fingers.
“No, of course, he is, was, the Allfather, how could he have feared me.” Confusion crossed your face and the old lady patted your hand.
“Small one, full of power, so much power you could not comprehend. The prophecy, it was about you and he feared you would bring Ragnarok if you stayed, you would burn the city with your magic and dance in the flames.” She shrugged, her cardigan sliding on her thin shoulders, and then took a draught of her tea, smacking her lips and reaching for a biscuit when she was done.
“But Ragnarok happened already, that’s why we’re here,” Loki scrunched his brow, “and it was Hela, it was nothing to do with Estrid.”
“Well maybe it was wrong, what do I know.” She patted Thor’s hand. “But I do know,” her eyes twinkled and if you didn’t know better, you’d say it was the same spark of mischief that Loki possessed, “I do know that Lugh,” she said his name like a sigh, one hand over her heart, “he was a kind man to all, and he loved your mother, so very much, that he would protect you, even now. He didn’t know how, of course, but he visited you once and Bres - well - as I say, it shook the palace.”
Tears were threatening again, you couldn’t help it, it was all too much, should you have gone with him? Trusted him? Had he kidnapped you or was it another? Your mind raced.
“I’m sorry, small one, I grow very weary, I am not as spritely as I once was.”
“Thank you, thank you so much.” You reached across the table to hug her, your senses filling with an instant calm, a forgotten memory of the Asgardian nursery, the school rooms billowing with chalk dust and the grey teacher who watched over your work. “Thank you.”
“Oh small one, it is my pleasure to see you so well again.” She smiled back, but tears didn’t come, instead her eyes looked milky and unfocussed, “I - Princess Estrid, what in the Nine Realms are you wearing - and Prince Loki, do unhand the young girl - I was - I was - look at the board -” she made a half turn, stumbling into Thor’s arms, “I must -”
Thor tucked her tiny arm in his and kept her upright, “I shall escort her home, I know the way.” He nodded at you all, “I trust we shall discuss this later?”
“Yes, of course brother, later.” Loki touched his elbow as he passed while you stared at the noticeboard again, silent tears spilling down your cheeks.

When you’d helped to tidy away the table and the other Asgardian ladies had fussed over you awhile, Loki decided it was time to retire and discuss all that had been revealed to you. He had watched you working, leaning against Brunnhilde’s throne, while they spoke in hushed voices about the prophecy.
Outside of the tall windows the night had drawn in quickly, the sun already below the horizon despite the fact it was only mid-afternoon. In the lamplight you could see thick flakes of snow passing in and out of the light.
“My darling,” Loki cooed, arms curling around your waist and his chin on your shoulder, “you work with my people is much appreciated, but I believe we should leave now, we have much to discuss.”
You nodded in agreement and said goodbye to your new Asgardian friends. They were friendly, happy people, relaxing into their new life as much as they could with the weight of their loss still hanging heavy over them. You remembered snippets of life in Asgard, but the sheltered palace and walled grounds were a world away from the casual court of this new land, and you had to admit you enjoyed it.
At the door of the long hall Loki waved his hand, alongside your coat, a matching hat and gloves appeared. His own fell around his knees, accentuating the long lines of his body, and he lifted the collar against the chill breeze shifting the airy snow across the doorstep.
Naturally, you fell into step next to each other, your arms linked and shoulders bumping together. You passed the turning for Brunnhilde’s road and suddenly your heart hammered, you had made it this far last time. You had walked from Brunnhilde’s home to the harbour’s edge, you’d watched the boats, far fewer boats then, bobbing in the waves, and now you were watching them creak against the crisp wind, snow icing their edges.
“You have nothing to fear, Asynja,” Loki assured, putting his arm around your waist instead. You had to walk slower, but you did feel safer this close to his body.
“I know -” you took a deep breath, watching it mist in the air as you exhaled, “I was alone before.”
“Though I’m truly sorry, beyond any words, that I was not here to escort you before, that isn’t what I meant.” He stopped you then and your heart beat wildly. The cottages were lit up in the darkness and you longed to be safe inside. “You have nothing to fear, anything out here stalking you now -” you hitched a breath, “- not that there is,” he cupped your cheeks, tipping your chin up. “There is nothing out here that your power cannot match, nothing that you cannot beat, you have no reason to fear, they should be afraid of you.” His eyes were ablaze, firm and proud.
“I don’t know about that, Loki, I-”
“Darling, you are Princess Estrid, daughter of Brigid, this is a magnificent lineage all of its own. I’ve seen what you can do, what your raw magic can create, you have nothing to fear.”
“Okay,” you weren’t entirely convinced, but Loki’s surety made you feel as if you could take on the world anyway, just as long as he was by your side.
“It seems I need to prove it to you further,” he stepped away from you, taking the coat he’d conjured with him and a chill ran up your spine, the flare of magic was as natural as the shiver itself, a heavy cloak and fur collar fell about you, fluffing up behind your neck to protect you from any further cold.
Loki smiled, the predatory smile he employed when he had been proved right, “without thought, my darling, you look truly regal, as you deserve to be.” He approached you again, holding his hand out and, as it touched yours, he allowed himself to exchange his modern peacoat for a matching robe.
“Do you believe me now, Princess?” He teased the question against your lips, pulling back when you leaned into him.
“Yes, I believe you.” You sighed, rolling your eyes playfully.
“Good,” Loki’s cold lips met yours, as all consuming as his belief in you, you tipped your head, deepening the kiss until your tongues slid together, noses brushing and the snow falling like glitter around you.

You stumbled over the threshold of Loki’s Tønsberg home intending to take in the details of his cottage, to learn more about him, to talk over the new information revealed at the long hall. But his lips on your neck, pushing the heavy fabric to the floor where it billowed into glittering magic at your feet, the overwhelming scent of him as he slammed the door behind you both and pressed you into the wall. You were incapable of thinking of anything else, of this god before you, a Prince, and you felt every inch the Princess he believed you could be. That sensation alone filled you with a burning desire.
“Loki,” you moaned and he groaned against your lips.
“Say my name,” he growled, “say it again.”
“Only if -” you panted, pulling away to drag your sweater over your head, “only if you call me Princess again.”
Loki’s eyes darkened, his smile feral as he loomed over you, one hand braced against the wall, his body hovering over yours, barely touching, the other traced your ear, down your cheek, to your lips. “You like when I call you Princess?” he purred, dragging your bottom lip with his thumb and you latched onto it, drawing the digit into your mouth and nodding. “Then who am I to deny you, Princess.”
“Ugh, Loki,” you sagged against the wall, reaching for his lapels and drawing him back into your kisses.
“That’s a good girl,” he swept you up in his kiss, lifting you into his arms and carrying you up the narrow stairs to his bedroom. Candles flickered as you passed, illuminating the room in a golden glow.
Loki’s bed was huge, taking up a large portion of the room with its posts and swathes of emerald velvet. He’d placed you on an equally luxurious blanket, but you could feel the cold slick of silk behind you.
He prowled towards you, crowding you backwards into the pillows and crushing your lips together again. Your hands sought the hard planes of his chest, ripping the buttons from his shirt and revealing the dips of his muscles to your hungry eyes.
“I need you so badly, fuck -” you dug your hands into his hair, needing something, anything, to ground you.
“Darling,” his chest rumbled with each breath, his kisses deep and languid.
You weren’t sure whose magic removed the rest of your clothes, but you knew when you could feel the hard length of him against your thigh that this was exactly where you needed to be, where you had always belonged. You canted your hips against him, trying to gain any friction to quell the aching between your legs.
“My Princess,” he looked down at you, his eyes full of emotion and lust, blurred together into an intoxicating cocktail, you shivered again, your own slick mixing with the precum leaking onto your leg. “Are you going to keep being a good girl for me?” He asked, nosing at the sensitive spot on your neck, licking over the pulse.
“Do you want me to be good?” You teased back, wrapping your legs around his hips.
It took him a moment to answer while he took in your prone form, spread below him in the candlelight, sparking with magic, before he met your eyes again, notching the head of his cock at your entrance.
“No, I don’t,” he grinned. “I want you to be bad, I want you to be naughty, my Goddess, my Asynja, I want you to be wicked and cruel and ruthless. I want you to take exactly what you want from me."
You clawed at his back, leaving red tracks on his porcelain skin while he snarled with lust, sheathing himself inside of you.
He was animalistic, growling as he set a punishing pace, his forehead pressed to yours.
You gripped his hips, using them to pull yourself closer, rolling your body to meet his with every thrust.
“Loki - ugh - My Prince!” You cried out, your stomach tightened, clenching around his hard length.
That feral smile returned and he slowed his movements, rolling onto his back and dragging you with him until you were seated in his lap, his cock, so deep, you could swear you could see the outline of him. His hands found your waist again, urging you to begin moving.
“My Prince,” you panted, squeezing your eyes closed at the sheer bliss of being so close to him, so connected you could feel his heartbeat inside of you.
“My Princess,” Loki sat up to kiss you, his muscles flexing, sweat dipping into each rivulet, “I want you to take your pleasure, my darling, let me be your throne, tell your court your wicked desires.”
With a moan you kissed the smile from his face, devouring him, his words like a match to tinder in your veins. And you moved. So slowly it was almost painful, teasing the length of him from your body, feeling the drag of each deliciously, thick inch against your fluttering walls, before lowering yourself again, hands on his chest, head tipped back in sheer ecstasy.
“That’s it, use my body for your pleasure, sit upon your throne.” He cried as he came hard inside you to the feel of your pulsing walls and tightening fingers.
As he rolled you over again you were sure you could get used to being a Princess.
