thinkin bout how orv starts with kim dokja actively working to ensure that kim namwoon dies during the first scenario
thinkin bout how kim namwoon was a teenager at the start of the scenarios, dealing with the apocalypse using the mental paths that came easiest, jumping into the new world with both feet
thinkin bout kim dokja as a teenager. tired. hurt. alone. his internal and external struggles ignored by the adults around him. choosing to throw himself off a rooftop because there wasn’t anything in his life worth living for
thinkin bout how kim dokja woke up again, even though he had planned not to
thinkin bout a teenage boy. lost, alone, broken, scared, angry, in need of someone to come and show him how to keep moving forward
thinkin bout a protagonist in a webnovel who is an example to you of how to survive against all odds. a mantra to repeat when living life as yourself is too hard
thinkin bout a hardened and powerful hero who knows exactly how this world works, who holds out a hand offers you a place with him
thinkin bout teenage kim namwoon, looking to yoo joonghyuk as captain, teacher, and protector
thinkin bout teenage kim dokja, looking to yoo joonghyuk as role-model, hero, and refuge
thinkin bout teenage kim dokja, who saw himself more as kim namwoon than any of yoo joonghyuk’s other companions
thinkin bout adult kim dokja, reclusive and unsocial, hiding his phone from his coworker so she doesn’t see what he’s reading. convinced that yoo joonghyuk would look down on him if he learns who he “really” is. ashamed of any details kimcom learns about his past
thinkin bout what happens to a life when the person living it has never seen in it any redeeming qualities or objects of value. how someone feels about life when they tried and failed to give up that life a decade ago, and every day since has felt almost accidental
thinkin bout the lesser fire dragon. the disaster of floods. the strongest in seoul dome. the devourer of dreams. the 73rd demon king. the industrial complex. the war between good and evil. the wager with secretive plotter.
thinkin bout the most ancient dream. an empty station. a cold and hard bench. bandages and a notebook and a too-loose uniform. smaller than he should be for his age and more broken than any child should ever become. alone.
thinkin bout an unbreakable faith, shattered. a family frantically throwing themselves at their heart to save him from himself. desperate hands prying a blade out of shaking ones, moments before the jagged edge pierced deep into vulnerable flesh
thinkin bout how the younger kim dokja, recently released from the hospital, does not watch. instead, he instinctively curls up to protect the parts of himself already hurting the most. he begins to repeat his mantra
thinkin bout how kim namwoon kicked and fought and screamed and stabbed. and then, when he realized there wasn’t anything he could do, he got down on his knees and begged kim dokja for his life
thinkin bout how kim dokja just stood over him, held him in place, and looked at him in silence as the clock ran out
thinkin bout kim dokja at the beginning of his story and at the end of his story. in a subway. looking down at a teenage boy.
making a choice. the same choice, both times.
the first time: an explosion, a blood splatter on his reflection, and a confused and wary protagonist who has lost one asset and gained another
the last time: arms holding him back, a family hugging him tight, and another protagonist who steps in front of him. holds the child close. forgives him everything. offers up anything more he could need. and kim dokja watches as the person with the strongest claim to vengeance upon this younger facsimile of himself instead gently gathers up the most ancient dream, tucks him close against his chest, and walks away with him safe and sound in his arms.

I wanna talk about the animation for 4kota, don’t get me wrong I love how we have pretty good animation for the series and I’m glad it doesn’t look like season 3-4 of the Seven Deadly Sins. But what I liked so much about Seven Deadly Sins season 1-2 animation is how well it captured Nakabas art style. With this new studio that’s animating 4kota I just don’t feel like they captured Nakabas art style that well. When you compare the manga to anime there’s a clear difference:
Tumblr media
There are sometimes where I think the anime does an amazing job at recreating scenes from the manga, like:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which I think look amazing but do you guys see my point? Like I said the animation itself isn’t bad it’s the art style. And especially with pretty characters I feel like it doesn’t capture their beauty.(Tristan and Nasiens) Nakabas art style is more round and bubbly but the anime makes it more sharp and round, and not in a good way.
And even with the shitty animation for the Seven deadly sins there was still Nakabas art style incorporated into it, for example:
Tumblr media
But this is just my opinion but I feel like some people will agree with me.

One day I'm gonna make a big rant post about Jamie being Not Sexist cos I keep seeing people comment on him being sexist and NO he's NOT
Thinking specifically of that bit in War Games where Zoe's like "this guy has some strong views about women's place" and Jamie's like "oh he sounds like a nice guy ^_~" and then like TWO MINUTES LATER is supporting Zoes right to have her opinion heard like duuuude hes TEASING

(Alright, going to stop procrastinating and finally make this post.) After playing through the new trilogy in French to see what was different, here are some things about the French localisation of Spirit of Justice I thought you should know:
First of all, I usually like the French and English versions of the games equally. This marks the first time I've actually enjoyed the French version... more than the English one?? Especially Turnabout Revolution? Don't get me wrong, I already loved it in English, but I think the next time I replay it I'll actively choose French. Idk man it just hits different when a bunch of French people are talking about revolution and overthrowing the tyrannical regime etc
Oh yes, speaking of which, yes, the "Japanifornia" parts of the game take place in Paris, France, as usual. No, I have no idea how Kurain village can be next to the mountains and also the sea while also being in the vicinity of Paris. I also don't know why the entire population of a small country in the Himalayas are fluent in French and use it on a daily basis. But seriously, the main characters mention SO OFTEN that they're French and from France, like, all the fricking time. Remember the incredibly Japanese rakugo case? Imagine that taking place in France.
The Khura'inese pun names are hysterical in French. An example that English speakers can get too: the first culprit's name in French is Sterh'uey Tu'heiven. I'm not making this up. That's his name.
RAYFA'S FRENCH VOICE ACTUALLY SOUNDS LIKE A TEENAGER INSTEAD OF A 30 YEAR OLD, THANK THE HOLY MOTHER
Unfortunately the Holy Mother giveth, but she also taketh away, and they gave Nahyuta a crunchy old man voice that doesn't suit his ethereal appearance at all...
Athena has now added German and Italian to her random English and Spanish phrases from the prev game. I mean... it made sense before, since she was meant to have lived in the USA in this version, but now I guess she just does it for fun? Who knows
French Roger Retinz uses €50 notes (euros) to fan himself instead of dollar bills
Inga's full name is "Inga Karkhuul Kel Nomh Bowkhou Tro'lon Pohm'peu Eh'Duhr Apronh Ons'ai Khura'in III" ("quel nom beaucoup trop long, pompeux et dur à prononcer")
Nahyuta's nickname in French is just "Yuta"
Ema and Apollo now use informal pronouns for each other, so do Ema and Trucy now, Maya starts using informal pronouns for Apollo from almost the first moment she meets him (though he uses formal pronouns for her lmao), and yes Dhurke and Apollo use informal pronouns with each other the whole time, even when things are awkward at the start. Rayfa and her mother always use formal pronouns for each other, which is a little depressing.
AS FOR NAHYUTA AND APOLLO... HOHOHO. Obviously they're both using "vous" (formal) in court, but in the scene afterwards Apollo switches to "tu" (informal) when he asks Nahyuta if he remembers him. Later in Turnabout Revolution, Apollo has gone back to vous but he's at least saying "Nahyuta" rather than "Prosecutor Sahdmadhi" or whatever (I think that happened in the English version too). Then during the final trial, after that one insanely angsty scene, Apollo starts using tu again and even (internally) uses the nickname Yuta once! Nahyuta eventually starts referring to him as Apollo and starts using tu after finally openly acknowledging Apollo as his family aaauuuuuugh ;o;
(Listen Apollo usually always tries to be formal and professional in court so this is a big deal!!! It's a big deal to me at least!!!!!!!!!)
In the English version there were a few times our good ol' American Apollo had a sort of "haha I'm just a foreigner I don't know anything here" vibe which... no you're not lol. The French version didn't have that (or at least toned it down a lot) and made him feel less like a tourist and more like an immigrant returning to his old home country with complex feelings, which he is. It makes it more personal that he's the one to bring about the revolution imo -- he's not some random foreigner swooping in to save the day, this is his home and his family, he belongs here. (As an immigrant myself I find aspects of him relatable and will defend his Khura'inese backstory to the death DON'T TEST ME)
The "what's crack-a-lackin' homie" line in all its glory:

Falloutober Day Five
This Thing Called Defeat
Time for some oc lore!! This is the story of Frankie's ousting from the Army.
For context, an Undesirable Discharge, or "blue discharge", is one that is "neither honorable nor dishonorable". It was issued to gay soldiers (and disproportionately to Black soldiers). Recipients were highly discriminated against in civilian life and often did not receive any VA benefits after their service. The use of blue discharges was only discontinued in 1974, a year after homosexuality was removed from the APAs list of mental illnesses.
Who doesn't like a little bit of depressing history with their ficlets, eh?
Word Count: 1.2k
Warnings: graphic depictions of violence, homophobia, alcoholism
Captain Donahue was poised in wait, attentively seeking the precise moment that Frankie's hand crossed the final signature line. In actuality, he'd started speaking before Frankie had even dotted the 'i' in his first name.
"Franklin Lee Barr, you are hereby dismissed from your service in the United States Army. You will be returned to base as soon as you've finished up here and monitored under close supervision. Tomorrow, a bus will be provided to shuttle you to the nearest train station at oh seven hundred hours for your final departure. Do you have any questions for me?"
Frankie shook his head stiffly.
"No, sir."
He had been sent back to base less than a week prior. When he'd been subsequently shipped to Fort Hagen that morning, he wasn't sure what to expect.
Three hours of waiting later and he'd finally been summoned to meet with the Captain of his company in the office of Lieutenant Colonel Jamieson. It had been less than a half hour since he'd first entered that room.
Everything was all done in secrecy, papers signed hastily away from prying eyes. Through his numbness, he realized he hadn't even been told the nature of his discharge. He continued signing the papers anyway, having a gut feeling that he knew damn well what it was all about.
Lieutenant Colonel Jamieson asked Frankie to stay behind for a minute. They waited for Donahue to take his leave with the Army's copies of the discharge paperwork. Once the door had shut behind the Captain, Jamieson turned his attention to Frankie.
"I'm terribly sorry for what happened down in Myrtle Beach. I understand that you and Private Malcolm Di Marino had a close bond… Cousins, was it?"
Frankie felt his chest tighten.
They gotta know I'm a queer then... I ain't gonna see a lick of money from these sonsuvbitches.
"Yes, sir."
Jamieson hummed and finally looked away from him, adjusting some files on the desk. Frankie saw his name on a few of the tabs. He presumed his entire life, both before and during his time in the military, was contained within the various folders and envelopes.
Jamieson was always said to be incredibly thorough, though Frankie hadn't much experience with the man. He'd turned out to be surprisingly soft-spoken when compared to many of the NCOs below him who executed his orders.
"I'm sure you're aware of all the nasty talk that began shortly after his passing."
"I am, sir," Frankie replied dutifully, though through gritted teeth.
"Then I'm sure you understand the reasons people were calling for your discharge," Jamieson stated, glancing back up at Frankie expectantly.
"Of course, sir."
"So you don't deny what's been said about your character?"
Frankie met his gaze. He didn't look angry. If anything, he almost had a hint of curiosity about him, as if he really wanted to understand whether there was a lick of truth to any of it.
"I don't."
The Lieutenant Colonel clicked his tongue and shook his head, becoming visibly disappointed.
"I thought as much. In any case, I read reports of your performance after the unfortunate loss of life that evening…"
"What did the reports say, sir?"
"They said you were instrumental in the rescue efforts of at least two dozen allied soldiers who found themselves pinned down by similar bombardments in and around that area."
Frankie frowned a little, wracking his brain. He'd mostly blocked out whatever happened after Malcolm had been killed. Now it felt as if it were all nothing more than an indiscernible dream at best.
"I'd be lyin' if I said I remember clear enough to confirm those reports you're talkin' 'bout, sir."
"Maybe this will jog your memory."
Jamieson lifted the topmost envelope from his pile and held it out. Frankie took it and opened the clasp, flicking it open to shake the paperwork free.
On the front was a mission brief. It was the very one that had been sent out to advise all other companies to evacuate the areas they tenuously occupied on the easternmost side of South Carolina. More Chinese soldiers were expected to arrive within the coming weeks of the first attacks to completely take those regions.
Through this, it was brought to light just how underprepared they had been to take on the task of holding down such large swathes of the seaboard. It didn't help that most of the military zone retention efforts were being focused around the upper east coast, closer to D.C.
Images entered Frankie's consciousness that he thought for sure he'd drunk out of his system. The last of the rescue missions they undertook was fourteen miles south of their initial position.
There wasn't enough liquor in the world to free him from images of the bloated bodies of both Chinese and American soldiers as they were taken by the tides. The sands were smeared with a red that seeped into the waters, attracting schools of fish to nibble the rotting flesh from their bones.
The smell was another story entirely, one that carried on the breeze and told anyone within a mile radius of the brutal massacre that took place there. They'd been too late to save anyone.
Frankie never slept the same after that.
He shook his head to collect himself, lips pursed as he skimmed the rest of the briefing. His fingers itched for the flask he'd carefully stowed within his jacket's inner pocket. Frankie huffed through his nose in annoyance at the whole situation and at everything that had unfolded in the days after they were attacked.
"I remember now. They wanted us to leave those men behind. I said I wasn't gonna do that."
"You told Staff Sergeant Carson that he 'wasn't fit to lead a children's choir, let alone this fucking squad' and told him to 'shove that Yankee dick of his up his own ass'... He wasn't pleased, and he certainly made sure I was aware of it."
"'Course he wasn't pleased. He's a goddamn coward who didn't take kindly to bein' reminded of that fact."
Lieutenant Colonel Jamieson didn't say a word as he held his hand out for the file. Frankie shoved the papers back in carelessly and passed it off to him.
"We lived in bizarre times," he said slowly, carefully replacing the file to its proper place in the stack. "I never thought I'd see the day when a soldier is punished for taking such courageous action in spite of the great risk to his own life."
"Dunno why you're actin' surprised. This whole world's goin' to shit."
Jamieson gave an ambivalent shrug as if he wanted to agree, but was honor-bound not to speak ill of current operations.
"Keep your chin up, Mister Barr. You can sleep well knowing you did the right thing, whether the institutions that fund the United States Army want to acknowledge that or not."
"Thank you, sir."
The Lieutenant Colonel saluted him, actually fucking saluted him, and Frankie returned it, though mostly out of shock.
It'd be the last time he'd raise an arm in respect of one of these bastards.
His own paperwork tucked under his arm, Frankie pushed through the door and into the brightly lit hallway. Halfway down the hall, Frankie caved to his curiosity.
The way Jamieson spoke so highly of him had gotten his hopes up. He sifted through the papers he held until he found the letter he'd been looking for.

is it just me or is batman like. significantly more tolerable outside of gotham comics than in
#my laptop's still letting me use tumblr without major issues and i'll make that everyone else's problem#anyway. i'm not saying batman outside of gotham is never insufferable to read bc he absolutely can be#when they write him like a gary sue and pretend that he's the most powerful member of a justice league that includes you know#superman and wonder woman#but also from the admittedly limited justice league comics i've read so far as well as the cameos i've seen of bats in other comics#he's just like. 200% more likeable#this post is about wonder woman issue 293 btw#he's out there doing a group hug without major blackmail and not protesting when clark announces bats and he both love diana#he's also engaging in casual conversation and treating clark and diana as on equal footing with him#and he didn't even have to go through a 12 issue arc or have an emotional breakdown about any of it#it's like. gotham comics are almost 100% guaranteed to work their reality around him and make sure you know he's the bestest ever#and all the energy goes towards making him grim and serious and traumatized while also being cool in an action figure kinda way#meanwhile a lot of comics outside of gotham go more like. hey this is bruce. he's a cool superhero who's really smart and competent#he's also kind of a loser who takes himself way too seriously and like maybe two people in this building like him#and the rest are not afraid to make fun of him either to his face or the moment he turns around#i know this is not the case for all comics and there's still a very very good chunk of them that make him the Coolest Boy Ever#but like. even just. seeing him treat other people as being on equal footing with him or even better than him#just makes him SO much more tolerable#like tower of babel or whatever that arc was called had a bunch of rlly dumb takes on how bruce could 'outplay' the justice league#but like. bruce still treated the rest of the justice league as on his level or better. it's why he bothered to MAKE those plans#you just don't rlly get that in gotham. the closest we get is if nightwing shows up bc then we might get an 'oh he's the best of us'#inner monolgue about how proud bruce is of dick. sometimes we'll get an inner monolgue about the other heroes too#but those monologues are the exception not the rule and they are almost never said out loud to anyone#and if they ARE it's only after an arc of bruce being a fucking ass as an apology and it's. insufferable.#idk maybe it's just bc i read more batman comics than justice league comics but still.#bruce is usually just. SO much more likeable in basically any comic not set in gotham to me#i bet if you made him spend a few weeks in metropolis or something his mental health issues would go away actually#he's just vitamin d deficient and it's making him cranky#my posts#bruce wayne
