everyone needs to stop thinking about rosekiller as a tragic pairing and start considering their narrative as the inverse right now. the marauders era has so many beautiful, romantic tragedies: “what would we have done different if we knew what was coming?” but rosekiller is not one of them. every single one of their choices they made on purpose, for each other, knowing the full scope of what it meant. they wouldn’t have done a single thing different if they had to do it a hundred times over. the troubles with them are the circumstances they were given in life— blood purity, abuse, isolation. but they didn’t fall from happiness into a bitter ending (like the marauders), they came from a bitter beginning and made a life that was intentional.

barty came pre-broken. under imperius & his father he was not a whole person yet, he didn’t fully exist. what would you do if you loved someone who, by definition, was un-saveable? i think you would follow him wherever he went. and if the only thing that could get him out and allow him to Become Himself is a movement that’s awful and violent and bloody— of course you would do it anyway if you loved him enough!! i’m focusing on barty because we know more about him in canon. but just!! barty went from an emotionless, hollow half-existence to knowing the full spectrum of human emotion— love at one end, and grief (the last act of love) at the other. he lived to avenge himself by killing his abuser. he lived to avenge his lover by abusing his killer.

why would either of them have done a single thing different? it’s the opposite of a tragic ending— in the bitterest circumstances they made the single best thing they possibly could and that was loving each other. and they did it on purpose. i think about them a lot. anyway

Zuko is gruff and imperfect in his attempts to show kindness, and yet fighting comes as easy as breathing. I love fics that tackle that awkwardness, that stumbling kindness, but don’t portray it in that way that makes Zuko just seem hopeless, and actually explore it. He wants to be kind. He wants to care, but he’s lived a life where that is few and far between.

We’ve seen zuko fight in all different ways, with bending, with swords, with knives, hell, even hand to hand. And yet, he stumbles over his words when Jin flirts with him, offers Li only a knife - a tool of violence - to show he’s thankful, pushes Jet away the second he reaches out when they meet on the boat. He steels that man’s swords from him out of revenge and selfishness and steals Song’s ostrich horse rather than face her and the truth. He robs the rich man on the highway, and lures a secret police officer into an ally to frighten him into spilling information.

Yet, he blanched at Song’s easy compassion and at Li’s parents offer to let him stay. It’s the easiest thing in the world to leave Jin behind, to leave Li behind, to fight Jet in the streats in Ba Sing Se. It’s easier to steal and fight and scream. It’s easier to fight for survival than ask for someone’s kindness. After all, he wouldn’t know what to do with that.

thinking about a stoncy dynamic that’s not romantic or sexual or necessarily even platonic, but it used to be all or some of those things, and now it’s like they don’t know each other really at all anymore unless there’s danger, and then they immediately fall into perfect step with each other without even noticing

they don’t talk and they kinda avoid each other socially after they tried out every configuration of the three of them and none of them worked, but the minute a threat appears suddenly they’re flanking each other without having to discuss it. they fall into battle formation without even a glance. they always know where the other two are in a melee, they don’t have to check. it’s instinctive- stay equidistant, fan out, protect the party. one of them loses their weapon and one of the others throws them another, and they catch it and keep fighting. neither one looks, neither one breaks stride. they move around each other on reflex, like magnets.

just battle-hardened kids who are awkward as hell kids but also seasoned warriors who know each other down to their bones, but only in a fight.

wahhhhh this is a common daydream of mine too…….. stsg have such a unique bond and i don’t think you could really replicate it :((( but at the same time i think that for the relationship to work, they’d have to see you as an equal!!!! this is just a pet peeve of mine but i rlly Cannot Stand poly stsg fics where they see reader as being beneath them… first of all they would Never second of all!!! they should all be in love. and they should all respect each other more than anything. it’s just a matter of realizing that you’re special to them in your own way, and that it’s in no way lesser than what they feel for each other!!!! but obviously the road there might be kind of tough…..

and gosh, they would definitely be heartbroken if you distanced yourself from them!!! :((( they just don’t understand what they did wrong and you don’t know how to open up about it…. i think they’d eventually corner you and kinda force you to do so (cue lots of crying and their desperate attempts at soothing you) and after that it’d feel a lot easier. if you’re precious to them then i don’t think there’s anything they wouldn’t do to understand you properly!!! and love you properly. they’re sweethearts and i love them <3333
