Another hour of silent writing went by before Viktor heard the tell-tale clatter of chalk being set down once more. His palms immediately began to sweat. He forced himself to continue working, but he could see Jayce moving closer in his periphery, tall and imposing as he came to stand against Viktor’s side—closer than he had come before, with his chest brushing against Viktor’s arm as he wrote. “Vik.”

“Hm?” Words were failing him, so the best he could offer Jayce was a soft hum.

Jayce wrapped his fingers around Viktor’s wrist and lowered it slowly. His palm was hot and dry, clamped around the thin, delicate bones under Viktor’s skin. He squeezed his hand and Viktor’s fingers contracted, dropping the chalk into the well with a loud clang. Jayce’s voice was so soft in the now silent lab. “We should go.”

Viktor glanced at the massive windows at the back of the room. Golden rays of fading sunlight shone in through the fresh glass, giving the room a slight amber glow. “But it’s still early.”

Jayce tucked a few strands of hair behind Viktor’s ear, then let his fingers dance down Viktor’s throat. “You didn’t forget, did you? We’ve got dinner with my mom, baby.”

His heart skipped a beat. Maybe two. Viktor sucked in a shaky breath. “That’s new.”

“Figured I’d try it out,” Jayce mused, his fingers still dancing across the skin of Viktor’s neck. Viktor hated how unaffected he sounded. “See how it went.”

“And?” Viktor’s voice was so breathy. He was going to die. “What’s your conclusion?"

Jayce’s fingers gripped his chin firmly and turned him. Viktor bit back a gasp when he was forced to meet Jayce’s dark gaze. His pupils were blown wide, inky black eclipsing the honey that Viktor had come to adore. Jayce licked his lips. “So far, so good.”

y'know what makes gen's crying moment in the ending even more meaningful

is that gen went from being a sceptic

to this

time machines are not even achievable in our present time, but gen's faith in senku and science is unshakeable. "full of unthinkable things" indeed yet he believes in senku regardless

and what gets me more, is that the ultimate faith in humanity and its sciences is the core of byakuya's personality too

and gen's faith in senku and his expression parallels this conversation between byakuya and lillian

LIKE LOOK AT THEM

so here is dr stone's final and most important message– that science means perseverance, because humanity will never give up.

senku isn't great because he's a genius. he's great because he doesn't give in to his failures. he keeps going, because he believes in science. (and gen is the one who narrates this message in the end. oh gen asagiri u will always be loved!)
