Okay so a little thing I noticed is how this random citizen flinches and calls Nimona "freak" when he sees her. This is actually a lot of people's reactions when they see someone using this style (punk rock ig, vibrant colors). And in my experience a lot of queer, especially trans people enjoy this style. You can see that Nimona's design is much different than those of the citizens', even when she is in her "human" form trying to blend in. Everyone is dressed pretty casually, like you could walk down the streets and see someone wearing their clothes. But Nimona stands out. And a lot of people are judgmental purely if someone stands out and doesn't follow their traditional beliefs, norms and roles.

When does Dungeon Meshi take place?
This is an excerpt from Chapter 2 of my paper, "Real World Cultural and Linguistic Influences in Delicious in Dungeon." Dungeon Meshi takes place in the year 514, however we don’t know how that number relates to anything else in the Dungeon Meshi world, so it isn’t really useful for identifying what era Kui is trying to depict.
It can’t be that the Ancient Cataclysm happened 514 years ago (it was still referred to as ancient history by Thistle and Delgal a thousand years ago), and it can’t be when the current elf queen’s reign began (she’s only 372), so it’s either marking some other major event, like the beginning of the reign of a royal family or the end of a war, or they reset their calendar at regular intervals, such as every two-thousand years for record-keeping purposes.
In the real world, 514 CE would have been the early Medieval era, just after the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, which left Europe fractured into many small Germanic kingdoms competing with each other. It was also the beginning of the Asuka period in Japan, and the end of the Northern Wei Dynasty in China.
This has some similarities to the world we’re shown in Dungeon Meshi: the Western elves have abandoned most of their land in the Eastern hemisphere, leaving the local dwarven, gnomish and tall-man people (whose cultures are primarily Germanic) to fight amongst themselves for the land. A massive upheaval caused by a major imperial power collapsing.
However, based on character behavior, culture, clothing and technology, Dungeon Meshi appears to be set in a vaguely Renaissance (1450 CE-1650 CE) time period, with some elements from classical antiquity (800 BCE-500 CE), the Medieval era (476 CE-1300 CE), as well as some hyper-advanced steampunk/magic technology and modern day anachronisms. (Potential spoilers beyond the cut.)
The technological and artistic development of the different cultures is very different, with the long-lived races appearing to live a more modern lifestyle than the short-lived races. In the extra materials, Toshiro implies that Falin might find the Island of Wa “primitive” because they lack the social and technological advancements that come from contact with the long-lived races, and the Western elf Fleki calls the Eastern Continent a “primitive land” while complaining about the quality of life.
Based on this and additional evidence, we can reasonably conclude that the elven lands in the West are probably the most “modern”, followed by the lands in the Eastern hemisphere, with the Eastern Archipelago lagging the furthest behind.
Because of this difference between the races, it makes sense that we see a mix of different eras and styles of technology and clothing. For example, we see characters wearing Neolithic fur garments, Greco-Roman tunics, and Medieval garments as everyday clothes at the same time that other characters wear Renaissance and even 19th century-influenced garments.
Meanwhile, many things in the Dungeon Meshi world have also remained unusually stagnant for far longer than they did in the real world. Realistic oil painting seems to have remained unchanged for more than a thousand years, and Medieval-looking clothing that was worn a thousand years ago is still being worn in the “present” day, virtually unchanged.
There are also some things that are much more advanced than the Renaissance period, like steampunk elevators, and magical communication that works through birds/fairies/crystal balls/telephones and allows for instant contact across the globe… A huge advancement that should impact every element of life and society, thanks to the ability to easily exchange information.
In the real world, instant communication is the foundational element that makes things like precise time-keeping, time-zones, advanced banking, stock markets and news reporting possible… So one can assume that some of these things might possibly exist in some form in the Dungeon Meshi setting.

Avalician Calendar
So doing Milla's file i began to ask myself " gee whats the Calendar for Avalice like " as i considered dates. And my DM brain started running in over drive and i sort of came up with this. I think this makes alot of sense! so ill probably refer to it in the future!
First, the Year! Trying to work this out seems impossible to determine. We don't know what the current year in game is but i worked an easy way to determine this for myself. The creation of the kingdom stone was the start of a new Era for the 3 kingdoms and the Kingdom Stone became a central part of there lives. Yet its destruction marked a new Era of technological advancement. So i worked out the following.
Era of the Kingdom Stone or EKS Era After the Kingdom Stone or EAKS or just AKS for short.
Much like in our modern era, with the destruction of there central icon of practical worship. They started the calendar over, resetting its value and going from 1. Thus we are in year 3 AKS going into year 4, which is an easy way to handle this for myself at least.
The Months of the Year
Figuring the months out i simply went to the lunar calendar. Originally i was going to use year of the rat, or bull ect as the months but since its a world of anthropomorphic animals that felt weird so instead i used an older calendar!
1: 陬月 Zōuyuè  Month of the Pegasus(Constellation) 2: 杏月Xìngyuè Month of the Apricot 3: 桃月 Táoyuè Month of the Peach 4: 梅月 Méiyuè Month of the Plum 5: 榴月 Liúyuè Month of the Pomegranate 6: 荷月 Héyuè Month of the Lotus 7: 蘭月 Lányuè Month of the Orchid 8: 桂月 Guìyuè Month of the Osmanthus 9: 菊月 Júyuè Month of the Chrysanthemum 10: 露月 Lùyuè Month of Dew 11:  葭月 Jiāyuè Month of the Reed 12: 冰月 Bīngyuè Month of Frost(Ice/Winter)
So this is the 12 months, from the Phenological calendar which is very much ingrained in plants. Now month 1 and 12 are outliers maybe i'll change those later but for now i'll leave them.
The Days of the Week
This is the only days of the week i could find, without getting into super complex 10 day week cycles, that was to much for my brain to handle! this also keeps the 12 months and 7 days we have in the real world making dates much easier to figure out.
So as an example... today is Xīngqīsān the 28th of Bīngyuè in the 3rd year AKD
Anyway =D now i can effectively figure what day and year it is in Avalice! for any future threads! is this way to much info? probably but its how my brain works! enjoy!

Netflix’s Nimona Is A Fun Enough Kids’ Movie With Little For Anyone Else
Tumblr media
Netflix’s latest animated original Nimona is a really cool new movie with a very unique premise. The film has a lot of laughs, great voice acting and a wonderful world that is quite special. While it’s got a lot working for it, there’s not enough to engage an all-ages audience. But kids will love it. Check out my full Nimona review and catch the movie with your young ones. Nimona Review Is Spoiler Free The world of Nimona is quite rich with a great history and premise. The story starts with the history of Gloreth during what looks like Meidevil times. Gloreth is the historical figure of this world that fought back against evil monsters to protect society. So much so that even 1,000 years later, despite technological advancements, society still follows her rule and example. A new threat comes along that looks to destroy all that Gloreth built. Or, does it? I can’t gush enough in this Nimona review about the world of this movie. It’s such an interesting and unique idea that really deserves more exploration. This makes me wonder if Nimona wouldn’t have been better served as a series, than a movie. Despite the fact that society has advanced and there’s laser tech and flying cars, they still adhere to the Medieval times' way of doing things. The Military branch is still Knights, and the architecture is still very much castle-like. It’s interesting seeing how a world evolved from those days but with the influence of that time still intact. Nimona’s Characters And Voice Cast Are Perfect Chloe Grace Moretz voices the titular Nimona who is wonderful! Nimona herself is a rebellious young girl with a mysterious past, who just wants to be the sidekick of a villain. Yea, you heard me. So when a non-noble Knight is framed for murder, Nimona thinks she’s found her evil master. But Ballister, voiced by Riz Ahmed, is anything but evil. The main story in this Nimona review is about how Ballister was about to become a knight, despite not being noble-born, as most knights in this world are. But at the last minute, a heinous act occurs, framing Ballister, making him the kingdom’s most wanted criminal. The story of Nimona is about these two misfits, Nimona and Ballister, as they try to clear his name, but along the way, upend everything they thought they knew about their world. Ahmed is wonderful as Ballister, providing a vocal performance that’s different from the typical animated movies. Ahmed’s unique voice adds something to Nimona that’s not often there. The rest of the movie is wonderfully supported by other performances like Frances Conroy and Eugene Lee Yang. Trying Too Hard To Be Everything All At Once Where Nimona loses me is with its overall tone and more extensive approach to the story. The story itself is trying to do way too much with a very limited runtime. With a runtime of only 1 hour and 41 minutes, you would expect a story that is clean and to the point. But there are too many ideas and plot twists that come in at the end of the second act, for the movie to give enough time for those twists to breathe before rushing to a conclusion. It’s weird that this wasn’t made as an animated kids’ series, like many other Netflix shows, instead of a feature film. Then there’s the tone of the movie. At many points, it feels like a kids' animated movie from the 90s, with cheesy humour and many over-the-top performances, including Moretz’ and Ahmed’s. But it’s more the dialogues than their delivery of them. This is why I feel that younger audiences will have a blast with Nimona, but the parents or their older siblings may need more. Nimona Review Concludes On A Good Note Overall Nimona has a lot more good in it than bad. The complaints about the tone and rushed third act are only a problem if you’re not having fun with the rest of the movie. But it’s a movie that can be thoroughly enjoyed as a family movie night feature, or just something for the little ones. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_fuHRyQbOc Nimona releases on June 30, 2023, on Netflix. Are you excited to see a futuristic Medieval world in Nimona? Let me know in the comments below or on Twitter at @theshahshahid. Read the full article

The Gods and Their Division
Although everyone knows of the Gods since they are prevalent part of our day to day life, not many know that there are 2 divisions of Gods. There are the Elder Gods and the Younger Gods. Yes, I know it may be counteractive to call a group of gods the Younger Gods even though they are thousands of years old, but that’s just how they divide themselves. I don’t make the rules. Although for many the Gods don’t really have many differences apart from appearances and roles, once you get into it, there are actually a lot of things that just fit in.
The Elder Gods are the first 7 seven Gods created. These include: the Goddess of Nature, the God of Soil, the God of Rock, the Goddess of Volcanoes, the God of Water, the God of Predators and Snow, and the Goddess of Ice and Prey. These 7 Gods helped in the creation of the ecosystem of our planet. They shaped the earth, sprouted plants, made volcanoes, separated the lands with water, and started the circle of life. They all have a deep connection with nature and its qualities. And just how nature is beautiful, it can also be deadly. This is the other quality that distinguishes the Elder Gods to the Younger Gods.
All have their magnificent beauty and splendor, but they can also be deadly, and it shows in their appearance. All of them look very animal-like compare to the Younger Gods, which look more human. They may have multiple extremities, large claws and teeth, stand on all fours, and overall look very uncanny. You can see the humanity in them, but you first see how dangerous they can be. This may be the reason why the societies and cultures that are under their rule are not as technologically advanced as the rest. They are in tune with nature and have a deep respect to it. The only exception to this rule would be the Nahda Kingdom, but I believe it is only because our god, the God of Soil and Knowledge, sees technology as a progression of knowledge, but only to a certain extent. It can be used to widen our field and help learn things better, but not to the point where it completely takes over our lives.
The Younger Gods started with the creation of the God of Light and the Goddess of Shadows. They include: of the God of Light, the Goddess of Shadows, the God of Seasons, the God of Wind, the Goddess of Fire, and the Goddess of Electricity. These Gods I’ve seen the trend that, although they represent an element of sorts, they mostly follow a belief or a concept. For example, the God of Wind represents freedom, while the Goddess of Electricity represents innovation. This has come to the point that for some of these Gods, people just refer to them as the concept they represent. These Gods look the most like your everyday person with a magical feel to them. The only 3 that still look relatively animalistic are of the God of Light and the Goddess of Shadows for being the first to start the new era, and the Goddess of Fire for being the daughter of the Goddess of Volcanoes. The start of the new era of Gods was caused by the arrival of Mayantli after the Cataclysm. I talked more about this deadly entity here:
The Gods are a very intriguing topic for me as an archeologist and history major. I would love to know more about the ancient history of bygone eras, what had changed. That’s all for now,
Ahmad Ur ,out

Butan Surpasses El Salvador in Sustainable Bitcoin Practices
In the evolving landscape of cryptocurrency, various countries are exploring the potential of Bitcoin, each with unique approaches. Recently, Butan has emerged as a noteworthy contender, even surpassing El Salvador—the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender—in sustainable Bitcoin practices. Let’s dive into how Butan is leading the way in this crypto revolution.
Why Butan Stands Out
While El Salvador made headlines for its ambitious Bitcoin initiative, Butan's approach is grounded in sustainability. The country uniquely leverages its abundant hydropower resources to mine Bitcoin, resulting in a drastically lower carbon footprint compared to traditional mining operations seen elsewhere.
The Role of Hydropower
Hydropower is a significant component of Butan’s energy mix. Approximately 75% of its energy comes from renewable sources, primarily hydroelectric power. This ensures that Bitcoin mining activities can be conducted with minimal environmental impact. In contrast, many Bitcoin-mining operations globally rely on fossil fuels, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and environmental degradation.
Economic Benefits
Investing in sustainable Bitcoin mining not only aids in combating climate change but also brings economic benefits to Butan. The government of Butan has recognized the potential of cryptocurrencies to diversify its economy and increase revenue. By promoting green energy-driven mining operations, Butan is attracting foreign investments and creating job opportunities, helping to bolster its economy.
Challenges Faced
Of course, the path to crypto dominance is not without its challenges. Butan faces infrastructural limitations and a relatively small population. However, through strategic planning and international partnerships, the country is well-positioned to overcome these hurdles. Moreover, the government has expressed a commitment to improving digital infrastructure and encouraging technological advancements.
Learnt from El Salvador
While El Salvador took a pioneering step by adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, it faced several challenges, including volatility in Bitcoin’s price and a lack of widespread adoption among its population. Butan appears to be learning from these experiences, focusing instead on sustainable practices and gradual integration of cryptocurrency into its economy.
Future Prospects
As Butan forges ahead, the spotlight is on how its sustainable practices will pave the way for future endeavors in the crypto space. By promoting a model that prioritizes environmental responsibility, Butan might just set a precedent for other nations considering similar initiatives.
Conclusion
In conclusion, while El Salvador may have been the first to officially embrace Bitcoin, Butan's commitment to sustainability and responsible energy use positions it as a worthy frontrunner in the world of cryptocurrency. As global awareness about climate change grows, the significance of eco-friendly mining practices can't be overstated, And Butan is leading by example. The world will be watching closely as this small kingdom pushes boundaries in the quest for a greener, more sustainable Bitcoin future.
Stay Updated
To follow Butan’s journey and the latest trends in sustainable Bitcoin mining, be sure to check back for more updates. The world of crypto is ever-changing, and you won't want to miss any of the action!

THE WHOLLY SPIRIT EPINOIA WOMB OF CREATION:
GODDESS ISIS MY ARC, MY ARC-ANGLE ARCHANGEL
CONSCIOUSNESS IS NOT THE PROJECTOR OF REALITY, THE COSMIC EGG OF THE GODDESS, GODDESS ISIS IS THE PROJECTOR OF REALITY. CONSCIOUSNESS IS WHAT VIEWS THAT WHICH IS PROJECTED. THE DISK IN BETWEEN THE HORNS ON THE HEAD OF GODDESS ISIS IS NOT A SUN DISC, THAT IS THE BLACK SUN WHICH IS THE COSMIC EGG OF GODDESS ISIS. DO YOU SEE HOW THE WINDING SERPENTS STOP AT ABOUT THE SOLAR PLEXUS, JUST LIKE IN THE DIAGRAM OF BAPHOMET BY ELIPHAS LEVI? THAT IS BECAUSE BAPHOMET IS A DIAGRAM OF THE SAME SPIRITUAL CONCEPTS REPRESENTED BY THE DEPICTIONS OF GODDESS ISIS FROM OLD KINGDOM EGYPT. THE SPHERE WITH SCALES FROM THE DIAGRAM OF BAPHOMET IS SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT THE WOMB OF CREATION OF GODDESS ISIS. THE BAPHOMET SYMBOL MUST HAVE BEEN DELIBERATELY ALTERED IN ORDER TO KEEP THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH FROM FINDING OUT THAT THE TEMPLARS WERE INVOLVED IN WORSHIPING THE DIVINE FEMININE GODDESS AND AN ATTEMPT TO KEEP THEM FROM BEING EXECUTED, WHICH AS YOU CAN SEE, THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH FOUND A WAY TO TRY AND EXECUTE THEM REGARDLESS.
WHAT IS THE BIG SECRET? THERE ARE SO MANY, AND ALL OF THEM COMPLETELY DISPROVE THE ENTIRE FOUNDATIONAL BELIEF SYSTEM OF CHRISTIANITY ITSELF. ONE OF THEM IS THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS REALLY THE WHOLLY SPIRIT WOMB OF THE GREAT DIVINE GODDESS OF ALL, GODDESS ISIS. THAT'S RIGHT, WE LIVE AND EXIST INSIDE OF A GIANT WOMB OF THE GODDESS ON A MACROCOSMIC SPIRITUAL LEVEL.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE LAW OF ATTRACTION AND QUANTUM JUMPING COMPARED TO NECRONOMIC GATE WALKING AND THE MAGICK OF THE DIVINE FEMININE WORLD? NOTHING. THEY'RE THE SAME THING. THEY'VE JUST TRIED TO STEAL SOMETHING FROM THE PAGANS AND REPACKAGE IT SO THAT THEY DON'T HAVE TO ADMIT THAT THEIR ENTIRE BELIEF SYSTEM IN THE ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS IS COMPLETELY A SHAM. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT THE SACRIFICING OF CHILDREN WHICH WAS BLAMED ON THE PAGANS AND THE PHOENICIANS WAS REALLY SOMETHING THAT WAS BEING DONE BY THE FOLLOWERS OF YAHWEH, AND NOT THE PAGANS AT ALL. SO IT APPEARS THAT THROUGHOUT ALL OF HISTORY THESE ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS HAVE STOLEN REAL SPIRITUAL SACRED TRUTHS FROM THE DIVINE FEMININE TRADITIONS OF THE PAGANS AND THEN TRIED TO REPACKAGE THEM, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME ACCUSING THE PAGANS OF ALL THE BAD THINGS THEY WERE ACTUALLY DOING THEMSELVES.
LET ME GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE OF HOW BADLY THE ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS HAVE RETARDED AND STUPEFIED THE PROGRESS OF HUMANITY. I WILL AT THE SAME TIME PROVE TO YOU THAT OUR ANCIENT ANCESTORS WERE MUCH MORE ADVANCED AND MUCH SMARTER THAN WE ARE NOW.
WHAT IS A QUANTUM FIELD? A QUANTUM FIELD IS MADE OUT OF THE PRIMEVAL DARK WATERS OF THE WOMB OF CREATION, WHICH IS PURE POTENTIALITY. OUR ANCIENT ANCESTORS KNEW ALL ABOUT THAT, AS WELL AS THE POWER OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS. SOMEHOW TODAY, SCIENCE IS FAILING TO GRASP ANY OF THESE CONCEPTS WHICH ARE INCREDIBLY SIMPLE THINGS TO ANYONE WHO LOVES AND WORSHIPS THE GODDESS AND THE DIVINE FEMININE. DO YOU KNOW WHY THAT IS? BECAUSE THE ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS ARE SUPPRESSING THIS KNOWLEDGE. THEY ARE SUPPRESSING IT BECAUSE THEY KNOW THAT IF THE TRUTH REALLY GOT OUT, THAT THE PATRIARCHY WOULD CRUMBLE INTO NOTHING LIKE IT VERY WELL SHOULD! THESE TRUTHS ARE ALL BASED ON THE DIVINE FEMININE AND YOU CANNOT ACCESS ANY OF THEM WITHOUT THE DIVINE FEMININE, NOR CAN YOU EVEN GET ANYWHERE NEAR GRASPING RIGHT BRAIN SCIENCE OF THE DIVINE FEMININE WORLD, WHICH IS THE ESSENCE OF HIGH NATURAL TECHNOLOGY, DIVINE FEMININE TECHNOLOGY BASED ON OBSERVABLE PHENOMENON IN NATURE. EVERY CONCEPT OF THE PAGAN WORLD OF THE DIVINE FEMININE CAN BE MATCHED TO A CORRESPONDENCE IN NATURE, THAT'S ONE OF THE WAYS YOU KNOW THAT YOU'RE ON THE RIGHT TRACK EVEN IF YOU DON'T FULLY LOGICALLY UNDERSTAND IT, BECAUSE YOU CAN SEE IT PLAYED OUT IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER IN THE NATURAL WORLD. LIKE LIGHTNING AND ELECTRICITY.
YOU CAN NEVER COMPLETELY HIDE THE TRUTH WHEN IT CAN BE SEEN EVERYWHERE AROUND YOU IN THE NATURAL WORLD.
GODDESS ISIS, YOU ARE THE ARC THAT CARRIES ME, YOU ARE MY TRUE ARC-ANGLE ARCHANGEL, AND I LOVE YOU!
LONG LIVE THE COSMIC EGG OF GODDESS ISIS, DIVINE CHRONOS, AND AND THE DIVINE FEMININE EMPIRE OF THE BLACK SUN WITH ALL THE INHABITANTS THEREOF!
UNTIL NEXT TIME MY LOVELIES, KEEP DARING TO DREAM!
BLESSED BE!

If you could rewrite legend of korra and make it your own(or just in general better) how would you do it? The villains would stay the same and korra and crew are the same(personalities you can definitely tweak a bit. I would definitely not have any love triangles and make korra and asami happen in the beginning) how would you do it with your ships being canon as well?
Okay so I’ve never actually watched LOK. I’ve heard A LOT about it through watching countless video essays on Youtube and reading Tumblr posts about it. I know the who, the what and the how, I just haven’t wanted to watch it because, even though it looks cinematically gorgeous, the story was written by Bry/ke and there’s a LOT of it, worldbuilding and storywise, that I just can’t bare to watch.
So here goes. This got long. Enjoy!
1) Remove the Decopunk world.
A Decopunk world is a world where technology is 1920s-ish, but very advanced. We have cars, tanks, radio, bobs and faux bobs, cloche hats, short skirts, nice suits, etc. I adore Decopunk. The 1920s are one of my favourite eras. An optimistic way of looking at the world, partying, illegal alcohol, the remnants of the Great War... I love it. I really do. But it doesn’t work in the pre-established world of Avatar. It brings elements that are far too imperialistic and colonial in nature (which prompted the comics to be imperialistic and colonial in nature, with the Northern and Southern Water Tribe, you can find many posts about that), which came along hand in hand with the Industrial Revolution, as this article puts it so well. Please read it, it’s awesome.
Why did they feel they had to denature Avatar’s world? They already had everything they could possibly want.
The Fire Nation could be more Steampunk, which is a little less advanced than Decopunk (First Industrial Revolution vs Second Industrial Revolution) because there were elements of Steampunk in the Fire Nation Army (such as the tanks, the navy and the dirigibles). But it could be for them only. It could show us how Zuko transformed the Fire Nation from a war industry to a steam-powered country. This could be the new way to channel firebending (and please, no more “anyone can do lightning bending”, you don’t need lightning bending to get electricity and it makes  Zuko, Iroh, Ozai and Azula weak in the show!).
We’ve seen waterbending used in clever ways in the Northern Water Tribe. How could Katara’s waterbending and Sokka’s engineering influence the Southern Water Tribe to make them use waterbending more? Canals, waterfalls, waterways, etc.? In new and different ways? Could the Southern Water Tribe use hydroelectricity, but in a clean, sustainable way? Why does the Southern Water Tribe port look so... mundane?
The Earth Kingdom already had a working train system in Ba Sing Se. And the postal system in Omashu. Toph could have taught earthbenders how to follow the Badgermoles way and dug tunnels throughout a nation in peace. Then boom. Subways. But instead of machines pushing the people along, you can have benders do it. Instead of messenger hawks, the postal system could run through the entire kingdom instead of just Omashu and be much more efficient. The Earth Kingdom could be praised for its fast postal system that could, maybe, work as telegrams.
I’ll come back to the Air Nomads.
Those are just examples from the top of my head. I don’t mean “never allow technology to “””progress””” (I use that word veeeeery loosely because it has huge imperialistic undertones). I mean instead of trashing the fun parts of bending to make way for Decopunk technology that doesn’t need bending, work with it! Get creative! This worldbuilding feels... too easy. When Avatar: The Last Airbender was praised for its worldbuilding.
I adore Decopunk. I enjoy it far more than Dieselpunk and it’s much less known that Steampunk. But it has no place in the Avatar world.
2) That doesn’t mean “remove Republic City”.
First of all, it should honestly have a better name. It’s kind of like naming a city “Democracy City”. Which is way too on the nose. Harmony City sounds better, and that’s the first thing that came to mind. Anyway.
I really like the idea of a city being built in the spirit of Iroh and the White Lotus. To allow the Four Nations to live together in harmony in one city. But why is Republic City literally New York City with an “““Asian””” flair? What is up with that? I know New York is the MOST Decopunk city ever (you can’t encounter anything Decopunk without seeing New York, with its Art Deco buildings, the Harlem Renaissance, the Prohibition, etc.). But they do NOTHING with it! They just take New York, change some names, add some Asian flair, and call it a day.
I don’t want 1920s New York for Republic City. I want Zootopia.
What happens in a city where all the Four Nations are represented? How does Water, Earth, Fire and Air work together? Big cities tend to be quartered in neighborhoods, so each neighborhood could be a smaller version of their nation. We could have a Northern Water Tribe next to an Earth Kingdom next to... you know what I mean? Each neighborhood could be a small-scale introduction to the nation for Korra first, then you can send her to that nation afterwards!
Which leads us to this.
3) Have Korra follow a traditional Avatar’s journey.
I really don’t know why they decided that Korra would learn three elements before the age of sixteen (when that’s the age Avatars usually START their journeys) and then only have her learn Airbending during the entire show. Wasn’t the structure of each Book being about Aang learning one element at a time a good structure? Why go out of their way to NOT do that? Why was it the White Lotus’ prerogative to train the Avatar in the first place, too?
So let’s have Korra know waterbending first (and show Katara teaching her, please!), then she can learn Earth, Fire and Air. By going to the Earth Kingdom, to the Fire Nation, and to the Air Temples. This could help develop each nation and show us how they have grown through the years. And it could lead Korra and the audience to figure out that there’s not only Aang who has had children to represent the Air Nomads, but there were other Air Nomads who survived the genocide and we can actually see the Air Nomads as a thriving culture.
So about Republic City. As I said, we could keep it. But now that Korra is going on a traditional Avatar journey, you could have, say, one episode at the beginning and one episode at the end of each season taking place in Republic City. To show us how each Nation’s neighborhood works and as an introduction to Korra before she actually takes the plunge to travel to that nation.
Please! Build upon the Avatar world at large more! Come on!
4) Stop it with the love triangles.
Many have talked about the Mako, Korra, Bolin and Asami love triangles. I’ve read once that they don’t exactly feel like friends, they’re only colleagues who share the fact they all dated Korra at one point. Which is sad. Knowing that the Gaang is so beloved because they’re such GOOD FRIENDS first!
So work to build strong, healthy friendships first, THEN start thinking about romance if you have to. And please, if you want a ship to be endgame, don’t have it so you have to confirm it on Twitter.
Don’t.
Oh! And also. Bolin and Eska’s relationship was unhealthy as all hell and treated as “funny” and “comic relief” because a woman was being emotionally abusive to a man. That’s terrible. Please don’t do that.
5) Don’t let Katara fall to the side like she did.
Many, MANY before me have talked about how Katara got the short end of the stick in LOK. Where’s her statue? Where’s her recognition as the Greatest Waterbender in the World? Why is she day in and day out in the healing hut, when she said “I don’t want to heal, I want to FIGHT”? Does she even have a waterbending school? Or is that completely fanon? Why does she allow Aang to take one of their children on life-changing field trips while leaving their other kids behind? Aren’t they also Air Nomads by birth??
It’s okay to worship the old Gaang because, well, we all love them! I do love Aang, even if I give him a hard time a lot, but I love the character. I just don’t like the way Book 3 Aang was written. But some characters shouldn’t have everything while others have nothing. Aang is LITERALLY THE STATUE OF LIBERTY. But where was Katara’s statue? And also, what happened to Suki?? What happened to Mai or Ty Lee, too?? Or even Sokka?? He died some time ago and... that’s it??
Which brings us to this.
6) Zutara, Taang, Sukka and Mailee.
I’ve seen that picture of Toph, Aang, Sokka and Katara being edited with Zuko and Katara next to each other, Toph and Aang next to each other, and a (suddenly alive!) Suki next to Sokka. I think that’s so good! It feels so healthy!
Not all relationships that started when people were kids work out. Sokka and Suki seem the strongest relationship at the end of the show and they’re probably the only ones I could see working out in the end. Sokka could become the Southern Water Tribe Chief and Suki could become his Queen when she’s retired from the Kyoshi Warriors.
Katara and Aang would be lifelong friends, of course they would be, but I don’t really see them lasting. Aang was twelve when they started dating. They’d date a few years, then they’d decide they want other things. That’s a good thing to show kids!
I’ve written many metas about Zutara, but Ambassador then Fire Lady Katara would show a changing world, where the Fire Nation, now no longer a war industry but a Steampunk country, is moving forward, with Zuko literally marrying a woman the Fire Nation tried to wipe out. They would be equals and leave an equal mark upon the world. Together.
Toph and Aang would be amazing together. They’d be a great team, working in the Earth Kindom, helping rebuild the old Temples when the Air Nomads came out of hiding, and bringing peace around the world. I don’t think they’d be a conventional relationship. They’d do their own thing for a while, find each other for a while, work together on some projects, then continue doing their own thing. Aang being the Avatar who travels the world and Toph teaching metalbenders and working with the King in Ba Sing Se and Bumi in Omashu and wherever she’s needed. I think Toph would be much more fulfilled than what we’ve seen of elderly Katara. She doesn’t have Katara’s abandonment issues (I’ve talked about them here) and she’s more independent, I believe.
I know I haven’t talked about them much yet, but I want Mai and Ty Lee together in the end. Badass ladies challenging their respective stereotypes and create a new world for themselves. Mai could find herself away from the Fire Nation court (I don’t know what she’d do, but circuses love people who throw knives, don’t they? She could be a circus performer for a while), and I think Ty Lee, in this version, could work at the circus and with Aang to rebuild the Air Nomads. I love the idea of Ty Lee being a descendant of the Air Nomads.
All of them should be shown creating Zootopia-like Republic City. Because of course they should be! They’re the Gaang!
So yeah, that’s how I would see the world of Avatar grow beyond the borders of the original show! :)

How Much World Building?
World building is highly subjective, and at the end of the day, to each is his/her own. However, as with anything, there should be balance. Even the most dense, infamously complicated fantasy worlds are accompanied with characters and conflicts that are just as rich and thoughtful. The amount of world building should be proportional to the amount of development you provide to your characters and plot. Otherwise, you’ve just made up an imaginary kingdom and inserted some of your friends with misspelled names riding horses.
Basing In Reality/History
Almost all fantasy has some basis or inspiration drawn from real historical periods or culture. It’s a good jumping off point, and there’s a lot of room to work with historical periods that we have few or no firsthand record of. If you’re going to take this route, it’s important that you distinguish between taking creative liberties and giving history the middle finger. If you’re basing your fantasy novel in 1300′s Scotland, there’s something to be said for taking the culture, politics, and technological advancements of that time into account. If you’re going to turn around and decide that’s not the era for your story, just base it in Scotland. Basically, the limitations on the elements of your story that is “based in” historical periods lay in your hands. However, if you market your story as “set in 12th century Scotland”, you’d better be writing 12th century Scotland.
Approaching Constructed Language
Conlangs are a popular facet to a lot of popular Fantasy/Science Fiction media, specifically those that are adapted to film and television. Although Science Fiction work is typically more invested in constructed languages, Fantasy has a lot of conlangs in the fashion of semi-developed conlangs that are created solely for the purpose of creating diversity within worlds. Game of Thrones and Lord of The Rings are both prime examples of this, although they have, over time, developed their constructed languages into fully learnable/functional dialects in fan service. If you wish to approach this topic, it’s easy to begin by researching basic linguistics, the anatomy of a language, and drawing inspiration from the commonalities between languages of the cultures that inspire your fictional groups.
Basic World Building Must-Haves
It’s important that when you’re building a world, either from scratch or on the foundation of an existent inspiration, you consider the following elements that make your world three-dimensional and rich:
Politics
Geography
Language
Culture
Expression
Belief Systems
Class
Resources
Values
Power
Creating Magic Systems
This is complicated and nuanced as it gets. When inserting magic into any world, it’s worthy to note how it affects individuals, groups, and large-scale structure. I’ve got more on this in several other posts, so I’ve put my more comprehensive resources here:
Tips on Creating Magic Systems
Putting Limitations On Your Fictional World
Common Struggles
~ Where do I start researching for a story inspired by another culture?... Learn about the culture in depth before taking inspiration. Unfortunately, when most artists “take inspiration” from other cultures, it results in the lazy regurgitation of stereotypes. If you’re going to take inspiration from a culture, especially one that is heavily marginalized by the culture you identify with, come at it from an educated standpoint and work from there. Do not start with a stereotypical version of that culture and then find facts to back up whatever you’ve imagined as you go. Approach it as you would any other topic, with respect and a genuine desire to provide an accurate portrayal in your story.
~ How do I outline a story that spans multiple books?... Simple. Make the conflict more nuanced and difficult to resolve. Game of Thrones, for example, is a relatively simple concept (several families and powerful figures fighting to rule over the seven kingdoms) made complicated and high-stakes by the addition of several critical aspects, such as the relationships between said families/figures, the commentary on several societal issues such as class, the nature of power, and the human cost of the battle for power, and finally, complicating the politics and geography of the world to foster more obstacles for the key players.
~ How do I use world building to develop characters?... All characters are a product of their environment, which includes the geographical consequences, the political climate, and the human trends that result from cultural developments over time. All of these aspects come together to form a vibrant, three-dimensional world in which they explore their conflict. Establishing these factors through revealing the consequences they’ve had for the characters is effective (i.e. Game of Thrones), as is developing the characters through exposing them to the specific experience of living in the world you’ve created (i.e. Harry Potter).
~ How can I avoid harmful cultural appropriation?... Research thoroughly and seek the help of sensitivity readers. People who are specifically qualified to read your work in the search of harmful aspects you may miss are crucial in writing fiction and non-fiction works alike. Start with a good basis of knowledge and background on the subject(s) addressed in your writing, and then get a few outside opinions from people who well and truly know what they’re talking about.
~ How to make fight scenes between magic users exciting and dynamic... Choreograph stage business effectively and make sure that the flashiness of your description has a purpose. People’s movements in fast-paced, high-stakes action are very telling of their personalities, motivations, and a culmination of their idiosyncrasies. Learn this language of non-verbal communication, the language of the body, and use that to send a subtextual message to your readers. These scenes should be character driven, or they’re just filler for the sake of calling your fantasy novel an action/adventure.

Tumblr media
take a look inside the chapters of this history book and read of several events spanning across all of human civilization. read about people from all walks of life: great heroes, legendary foes, daring outlaws, ordinary people. read about the rise and fall of empires, conspiring courts, the rise and fall of empires, forbidden alliances and romances. in fact, dear reader, don’t just read. learn from the past, because if we don’t, we are doomed to repeat it.
𝖋𝖔𝖗𝖊𝖜𝖔𝖗𝖉
in lieu of hitting 500 followers, i’ve decided to announce this collaboration!! i’ve always loved history so why not? some of these eras are specific to certain cultures and places, but others are a lot broader. at the end of the day, they’re your stories. also if you saw me post this on accident the first time... no you didn’t <3
𝖋𝖔𝖗 𝖞𝖔𝖚𝖗 𝖈𝖔𝖓𝖘𝖎𝖉𝖊𝖗𝖆𝖙𝖎𝖔𝖓
this is a historical au collaboration, but any genre is allowed as long as your story is set in your chosen era! however, smut is not allowed for jisung or if you, the writer, are underage.
all works must be member x reader. love triangles and the like are allowed, but the main male character must be the member you chose.
eras and members are chosen on a first come, first served basis. please message me if you want to participate! if your main blog isn’t your writing blog, please be sure to tell me your writing blog so i can add it to this list correctly :)
you must have discord, since i will be sending all writers working on this collaboration a discord server link. there, i will send announcements and we can all give each other feedback!
tag any triggering content. if you’re not sure, ask in the discord server!
research is definitely encouraged as you will be writing about historical eras, some with specific cultural significance! please be respectful of any cultures or traditions you write about.
in the same vein, don’t romanticize any historical events or figures that are controversial, or have had negative cultural impact (ie, 9/11, the crusades, colonialism). again, if you’re not sure, ask in the discord server!
minimum word count is 2k. your words cannot be blurbs or timestamps.
please inform me if: you’re changing your url, you’re going on hiatus, or if you need to leave the collaboration.
the deadline is currently november 2021, but it is very flexible and can be pushed back even further should several writers ask!
after you’re added, i would really appreciate it if you reblogged this post to boost its reach :D

I have thought it would have been a hella better game if Sothis had been the protagonist too! Here’s how I imagine it would be like:
Byleth is the actual reincarnation of Sothis and the child-Sothis we see at the start of the game is actually her subconsciousness. Sothis/Byleth is still the emotionless mercenary with no social skills when the game starts, but she does become more and more emotional and expressive as she begins interacting with specifically Rhea, Flayn and Seteth, her old family. They do form a bond with the lords and the students though (I think the dynamic in AM as a close friend is nice) and most of Byleth’s thoughts are shown through child-Sothis’ commentary.
They can still have the “protagonist being ignorant about Fodlan” thing going on, but with a little twist that it is actually because Sothis keeps confusing the old Fodlan of her era with modern Fodlan and gets blinding headache all the time but actually that is her getting flashbacks. Because of this Jeralt took them away to Morfis (which didn’t exist in her time yet) and they only returned recently after being hired by Rodrigue who had them take care of some bandits in the Kingdom (that is why she has heard of the Tragedy but doesn’t know the details of it).
For example, when she leads the class to the Red Canyon, she mistakenly thinks it is a big, prosperous city that is supposed to be the capital of Fodlan and the lords and Rhea have to explain to her the legend of Zanado. Then she faints and gets a flashback of a beautiful city called Zanado with many humans and dragons living together in peace and unimaginably sophisticated technology located in the exact same valley. She confuses a lot of places with old Fodlan too. To her, Arianrhod is still a small fishing village, Fhirdiad is a food paradise and tourist’s attraction, Goneril is the capital of Agartha, a neighbouring belligerent nation, Enbarr is an ordinary small town where she landed when she first crashed into Fodlan, the Valley of Torment is a fertile valley with a large population focused on agriculture, the Church of Seiros is supposed to be called the Church of Sothis instead and she doesn’t know what the knights are because such concepts did not exist in her time nor Morfis, etc.
Of course, because she often gets so confused by the current Fodlan, the lords and Rhea still have a lot of explaining to do every time they have to travel somewhere like they do in the game. Claude becomes very suspicious of her too.
When she gets attacked by Solon, child-Sothis merges with Sothis, now reincarnated as Byleth, and regains her memories and power as the goddess and from now on her emotions and stuff are back. Then a cutscene showing Sothis’ memory of how and why she came to Fodlan as an alien, how she created the Nabateans and passed her knowledge to the humans in Fodlan, how Fodlan thrived as a nation of Nabateans and humans living together, how Agartha rose as a highly technologically advanced belligerent neighbouring country in the east and how Fodlan and Agartha fought in a war that devastated the entire world so much that she spent centuries healing it until it finally began prospering again and she went to sleep. In her memory we are also shown that the Nabateans all had symbols like the current crests of the 12 Elites and we are misled into thinking those with the crests are the descendants of the Nabateans. The cutscene then ends abruptly when Sothis is jolted from her sleep and the last thing she sees is a wicked man (Nemesis) raising an axe on her and a young girl’s screams that she knows it’s her daughter Seiros.
She is very confused right now because apparently the world she knew is just completely forgotten by the people, and apparently five of her children founded an empire called Adrestia with a human an entire thousand years ago. She knows they can live longer than 1000years and realises they must still be alive now and wants to find them. She also doesn’t know how she died too and is rather panicked that she will be killed again if word gets out she is Sothis. Ah, and she is very curious of the true identities of the 12 Elites as their first names were not recorded and shared the same crests with some of her children. Sothis worries if they were her children who adopted a different surname because that would mean her children fought amongst each other and may be they destroyed each other to the point that Fodlan was in such a ruin that no one remembers the old Fodlan now.
After this cutscene showing the old Fodlan under Sothis’ guidance ends, Byleth who has now remembered her life as Sothis and regained her full power, wakes to Rhea singing a lullaby very popular in old Fodlan so Sothis thinks Rhea may know something about the old Fodlan, but she is paranoid because she thinks there are parts of her memory missing and does not know for sure if Rhea is trustworthy. As a result, she doesn’t immediately tell Rhea she is Sothis and Rhea is not aware that her mother has already come back.
Rhea suggests having Sothis sit on the Holy Throne to jolt her memory and she accepts, hoping to remember what happened to her after the man with the axe showed up. However, before she can sit on the actual throne, Edelgard comes in with her soldiers and battle begins. Then the Imperial army attacks the Monastery before Sothis gets a chance to investigate and talk to Rhea/Seteth/Flayn. Sothis is completely stunned when Rhea turns into a dragon to protect the people because she finally realises Rhea is Seiros all along. She goes back immediately to protect Seiros when she is in danger but gets hit by Thales’ magic energy balls and falls down the cliff. She manages to tell Seiros she is Sothis before falling down the cliff though.
From this point, the route differs into the three non-CF routes.
SS will be a more personal story about Sothis trying to recover her memory and finding out what happened to her family. Sothis will also slowly realise Seteth and Flayn are her family and Macuil and Indech will also join them on this route to help rescue their little sister. Unfortunately, none of them can tell Sothis what exactly happened on the day of the Red Canyon Tragedy because Seiros was the only survivor and the four of them weren’t present in Zanado at the time. They can only tell Sothis that the five of them banded together with Wilhelm, a human and later Seiros’ husband and fought with Nemesis and his 12 Elites who tried to conquer the southern half of the continent and subjugate them to his tyranny. They can confirm the 12 elites were not their siblings and just magically got the crests of their family via unknown means. In the end Sothis rescues her daughter and storms Shambhala. The family are happily reunited and strive to rebuild Fodlan together after Rhea explains what she did to Sothis in her infant state.
VW will be a story about Sothis and Claude learning about what happened to old Fodlan and Agartha. Claude notices that Sothis has been reading up on the founding of the empire/church and the legends about the 12 Elites/saints too. He suggests they team up because he is also doing the same thing. Sothis tells him about the truth of her identity, her missing memory and the old Fodlan she remembers. This clarifies things up for Claude so Claude actually opens up to Sothis and begins trusting her as a friend and the rest follows canon. Rhea will explain what happened in the Tragedy and the fates of their family. Sothis and Claude take down Nemesis to avenge herself and her family. They also learn that Agartha is why Almyra and Fodlan fight all the time.
AM will still focus on Dimitri and the Kingdom but this is how I would frame the story: Sothis thinks the Kingdom nobles descended from the 12 Elites are the descendants of the Nabateans and may know something about her children and what happened to them. Sothis asks Dimitri if he has heard of the Nabateans. Dimitri doesn’t know anything but promises he will help Sothis investigate into this. Everything follows canon until Cornelia’s death, who not only taunts Dimitri about his stepmother but also mocks Byleth that she is assisting the descendants of the 12 elites who slaughtered her entire family 1000 years ago in a war against the descendants of her own children. Sothis in the end comes to term with the possibility that Dimitri’s ancestors might have killed her and her family and continues to support Dimitri as she believes he will make a good king while Edelgard is currently a terrible ruler who has caused the suffering of thousands of people.
CF, on the other hand, will be a much darker story. After Sothis wakes up to Rhea singing to her, she gets to choose between “ask Rhea” and “ask Edelgard” about the saints and the elites. If “ask Edelgard” is chosen, Edelgard will ask why and you can choose “tell Edelgard the truth”. She will lie and convince Sothis into helping her by telling her that Seiros and the four faints did a major cover-up and they were the ones who killed sothis and turned their blades against the rest of their siblings for power. The man Sothis saw in her memory was a bandit hired by the five saints to kill sothis and the other children, known as the 12 elites now, banded together to resist Seiros around a heroic mortal that is Nemesis. When they lost, Seiros hunted down the 12 elites, crafted weapons from their bones and gave their blood to her own allies. The church then lied to the people again that the 12 elites were helping her because one of the five saints didn’t want people to remember their siblings as villains forever. Her own ancestor wilhelm helped Seiros in her unjust war for power and she intends to make things right now and asks if Sothis wants to be a part of that. If Sothis refuses her offer and expresses her scepticism of Edelgard’s claims, the game will immediately end because Edelgard will kill her.
If chooses “yes” then you enter the CF route. Edelgard tells Sothis she intends to declare war on the church to take down Rhea and take back the lands occupied by the evil descendants of the people who slaughtered Sothis’ children, aka Faerghus and Leicester. Edelgard, however, tells Sothis she intends to capture Rhea so Sothis will be able to ask Rhea the same questions to prove her claim. They do not return to the Monastery for the Holy Throne ritual and the coronation scene and war declaration scene play instead. When Sothis returns to the Monastery, she is with the Imperial army intended to conquer the Monastery. Sothis confronts an infuriated Rhea, who is extremely mad about her betrayal, and asks why Rhea/Seiros sent the assassin on her and killed her siblings. Seiros quickly realises Byleth/Sothis is in fact the reincarnation of her mother, but Edelgard notices that and has Thales attack Sothis from behind to prevent Seiros from telling Sothis the truth and swaying her to their side. Sothis falls off the cliff and Seiros tries to kill Edelgard for turning her mother against her and killing her again before she retreats to the Kingdom.
Five years later, Sothis wakes up and rejoins Edelgard’s army only to find out the Empire is on the brink of collapse against the combined might of the Kingdom-Church-Alliance with only Garreg Mach, Gronder, Fort Merceus and Enbarr left in their control. Not all of the Black Eagle students are fighting on their side either - Ferdinand, Dorothea, Petra and Caspar have abandoned the Empire and are fighting for the Kingdom-Church-Alliance army while Linhardt and Bernadetta simply refused to join the war. Instead, Ladislava, Fleche, Randolph, Count Bergliez, Arundel and Jeritza have become your new units.
Sothis continues to help Edelgard in the war and they quickly reclaim the territories lost to the allied powers. As they continue to push forward, Sothis encounters Seteth and the other three saints too (Indech and Macuil joined Rhea after learning of what Edelgard did to Sothis) on the battlefield. They will try to tell Sothis the truth and you have an option between “question Edelgard’s claims and spare them” and “believe in Edelgard’s words and kill them”. If the former is chosen, the game will end immediately as Edelgard will backstab Sothis instantly if she knows Sothis has turned against her. The rest follows canon, but Seiros will try to tell Sothis the truth again on Tailtean. Sothis will be killed if she believes Seiros instead of Edelgard here too. Heartbroken and traumatised by the fact that her mother has killed all of her only remaining family members and has already tried to kill her twice and is about to come and kill her again, Seiros transforms into a dragon in Fhirdiad and sets the city to fire once the citizens have been evacuated, hoping to bring down all of her enemies including her mother with the fire in order to avenge her friends and family.
In the end, Sothis kills Seiros as canon but loses her power and immortality as a goddess because it was Seiros’ magic that kept the creststone alive, and without the protection magic on the stone it would just be an ordinary stone and couldn’t function as a heart. Sothis almost dies without a working heart but the Agarthans save her by a heart replacement surgery on her using Seiros’ heart on the condition that she will give them the Crest of Flames creststone and the sword and share her blood with them regularly. Everything else continues as canon and the route can end with a realistic dark ending (everything crashes and burns) or a fake happy ending (the one in the game).
YOOOO dude this is great! Byleth as a character is so uninteresting, at least to me, because the only actually interesting thing about them is something that was done to them, not something they did. Byleth was born without a heart and was given the heart of a long-dead Goddess to let them live - neat! Intriguing! But nothing else catches your eye like that about them. They live on as a mercenary who apparently only wanted to ever ask questions about anything ever at all once they get to the monastery. The biggest thing they’ve done is make a name for themselves for how well they fight in battle.
Now, we pivot the idea of Sothis being the protagonist, that’s where things start getting interesting. She fell from the stars and created new life? She helped humans prosper in knowledge only to have that knowledge be used for evil? She healed all of Fodlan from the devastation caused by the war humans enacted and fell into a sleep because of it? Those are all things she does that are worth getting to know more about. Her being murdered during her rest by another greedy human and was reduced to nothing but a dormant consciousness for a thousand years being coupled with the “being given the heart of a long-dead Goddess” being what was done to her isn’t the only interesting thing about them anymore. That’s all stuff that offers so much to the player to want to delve into, especially with a character who is gradually more and more vocal about their want to learn about themselves, with thoughts and feelings about what happened to them, what happened to their family, what they did in the past they can’t remember.
I especially like all the ways you can just get a game over in CF - in a way that reminds me of that one mission in Sacred Stones where if you beat the boss you get an insta-game over since he was your only way to progress the story lmao, except this is turnt up to 11, and instead of punishing you for being a dingus and fucking up the plot, in a way it’s trying to save you from becoming a kin-killing pawn to a tyrant.
About the only thing I might have a bit of a ehhh with is Agartha being why Almyra and Fodlan feud, just because I find them feuding due to themselves and not a third party to be more interesting to me (personally! That’s just for me lol, it’s not an inherently bad notion!), but thanks you so much for sending this!!

#EleNão
I never get tired of discussing politics. Online, I post my opinions, share ideas I find interesting, and I always try to be in the loop of what's happening around the globe as much as I can.
Most of the time, this much-needed exercise leaves me teary-eyed and broken-hearted. But THIS time, reading about the manifestations against Bolsonaro all around Brazil, I felt a profound sense of pride in my people.
Those of you who have been following me for some time probably know how much disgust I feel towards the current Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro.
(long post about Brazilian Politics after the cut. There's a list of amazing NGOs doing awesome work at the end of the text if you can/want to help the situation of the many groups at risk in Brazil right now. They include LGBTQIA+ groups, Indigenous people, Black communities, feminist movements, and NGOs focused on proper education and food for impoverished children).
In 2018, before the presidential elections, I was walking down Paulista Avenue with one of my closest friends.
Filling one of the widest avenues in Brazil, there was a mob of Bolsonaro supporters holding placards that read "É melhor Jair se acostumando." It's a small word-play with Bolsonaro's name; the idea is "You better start getting used to him". Stationed on the edges of the avenue, police officers stood with guns attached to their waists, crossed arms, and expressions that ranged from pure disinterest to clear enjoyment.
My friend stepped closer to me. He is strong, brilliant, and one of the bravest people I know, and yet he was clearly uncomfortable, so—after I managed to recover from the slight shock of seeing him like that—we linked our arms and avoided the mob in front of us, walking back to the intersection with Consolação Avenue.
Once we were away from the mob and the officers, he looked over his shoulders and sighed.
"If you weren't here, they'd probably have stopped me," he said.
The mob was mostly White. I'm White.
My friend is Black.
"I don't wanna think what will happen if that dude wins the elections," he completed.
His fear was justified. Bolsonaro is a racist, misogynist, homophobic ex-military who preaches in favor of the Military Dictatorship period in Brazil, which killed thousands of Black and Indigenous people while also torturing anyone who spoke up against the military government.
"He won't win," I answered. I was born and raised in São Paulo, one of Brazil's industrial, technological, and cultural hubs; I never thought people would turn a blind eye to how much damage Bolsonaro could make as a president. "He can't win," I added. "Not being who he is."
My friend nodded. We hugged and walked and laughed it off (tried to). And when Bolsonaro won, we both cried.
I guess I was a tad too naïve.
He won. He won, and I never got used to the idea of having such a terrible president. Here are a few things that happened in his government and that are directly connected to him:
(most of the links here are from news articles in Portuguese)
The number of neo-nazism sites in favor of white supremacy increased 400% in Brazil in 2020 compared to the same period in 2018 (before Bolsonaro was elected); this is one of the many consequences of his numerous racist speeches and a small proof of just how racist Brazil is.
The number of military police attacks on low-income communities increased along with the number of COVID deaths.
While, since February 2019, the world already knows that the rights of LGBTQIA+ people are threatened under the current far-right government, the advances in LGBTQIA+ rights n Brazil stopped after Bolsonaro was elected, and instead, there was a movement of retrocession.
The fires in the Amazon Forest further increased by 43% in April 2021 (in 2019, after an increase of 63% in comparison to 2018, I wrote about one of the most terrifying fires in Amazon and how I could see the smoke from it from my home in São Paulo, 3000 km away).
After promising to diminish deforestation in order to receive a large sum of money from the US, the Brazilian Senate is preparing to vote for a new Law Project that tries to make the licensing of land in the Amazon Forest more pliable. That means it'd be disgustingly easier for people to buy and explore the lands that should belong to the Brazilian indigenous people; all they'd need is an auto-declaratory license emitted online without the analysis of any environmental body.
Under the pretext of "helping" the indigenous people, Bolsonaro defends mining and agriculture in indigenous peoples' lands. This is one of the public declarations of repudiation written by the Yanomami people (one of the biggest indigenous communities in Brazil) about Bolsonaro and his visit to their land on May 27th, 2021.
And then we have women's situation, which you can see in the Brazilian annual of Public Security.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I didn't add the investigations of corruption (including embezzlement of money for COVID-related services), the liberation of guns, the nepotism, the problem with vaccines, the damage of the far-right religious institutions the president supports, and the disrespect and verbal aggression towards women.
... And that's why I felt so proud of my fellow Brazilians yesterday. :3 We're a young people (Brazil is only 521 years old, while England, for example, is 1094, if you think about the creation of the kingdom of England), but we're still doing our best. I might be away from my Land of Drizzle, but I carry my people in my heart, and I cry alongside them, as loud as I can,
♥♥♥ Fora Bolsonaro! ♥♥♥
---
And even though I can see Brazilians waking up and organizing themselves better, there are still people needing our help right now. If you want to help the situation in Brazil, please consider Donating! Here's a small list of NGOs doing a lot of good in Brazil:
+ APIB ("Brazilian Indigenous People Articulation") - to help the indigenous people in Brazil. (They also have a fantastic documentary subtitled in English you can watch here, showing the situation of the indigenous people in Brazil)
+ CUFA ("Unified Central of Favelas") - to help the impoverished communities and Favelas in Brazil. (I use my credit card to donate to this one; if you're outside Brazil, I think this might work for you too). If you want to help the Covid Relief specifically, CUFA has a project called "Mães da Favela" (Favela mothers), which you can donate to directly through this link.
+ Amigos do Bem - help with famine, donate drinkable water, and improve education in northeast Brazil, one of the areas more impacted by droughts.
+ Omolará (site in Portuguese) - amazing social project focusing on helping Black Woman find education and financial independence.
+ To help the LGBT+ community in Brazil, I'm still searching for NGOs and projects that receive international donations. If you're in Brazil or if you can make wire transfers, I suggest checking this list of fantastic projects (in Portuguese).

Scholars’ Chit Chat Prologue Submission
XXX
Cyno x Reader (Platonic, possibly romantic in the future)
*Lore dump warning
*Spoilers for all the Archon Quests and speculations of Teyvat
*Really it’s all serious talk
XXX
This is basically how you and Cyno met
XXX
The libraries of Sumeru are quiet, like how they’re suppose to be.
It is a new semester after all, the freshmen are still getting a grasp of the large campus, though Cyno does guess that soon enough they will be awed of this place.
Walking among the tall shelves, he tries to locate the section he had been researching on, but a voice calls out to him, breaking his concentration.
“Hey, you ever thought of why were you given a Vision?”
He turns to the source of the voice, only to see you there, sitting on top of one of the book shelves as your legs dangled from it.
“I would say that it is a question worth discovering with my entire life.”
“Huh, to think that you would answer so naturally… Wouldn’t one first ask who I am or ask why would I want to know that?”
“Because, first, I know who you are and second, those who come to this place seek knowledge.”
“Oh, so I had become the talk of school despite me being here for the first day?”
“Indeed, you were known as one who had declared to not take part in any sort of Mysticism studies yet aim to unveil the mysteries of this world. They called you naive yet you had earned the highest scholarship obtainable. It’s kind of hard to not let such news spread out.”
“Well, there are certainly advantages and disadvantages with this commotion, but that’s not my main focus anyways.”
“And may I ask what that would be?”
“To search for answers to fulfil my contract with the God of Wisdom.”
“Contract?”he questions, not capable of following your conversation, you slyly smiled at this.
“Unfortunately, this upcoming topic requires a fee to unlock~ I don’t mind sharing my findings to others, but when it comes to something as rare as words from an archon….”
“You get the idea, a price is required for everything after all.”
“…”
Cyno stared at you as if you were pulling his leg, but his reaction made you smirk even more.
“Oh, I won’t be asking for much, something like… Your name, perhaps?”
Suddenly realising that he hadn’t introduced himself yet and was reminded in such a playful matter, Cyno couldn’t help but let out an embarrassed chuckle.
“My apologies, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Cyno, a pleasure to meet you.”
“Hmm… You know that one’s name is important, right? Names hold power, not necessary the one given by your parents but the one that defines your soul. There are quite a few stories mentioning that giving your name to someone is the same as giving a part of their soul to them.”
The male however lets out a laugh at your advice.
“Thanks for the warning, I’ll keep that on mind.”
“It was nothing, and to the end of my bargain, yes…’ you began as you jumped off the shelf, landing right in front of him. “Well, it’s more like a bet than a contract if I’m being honest.”
“Which is?”
“To find out the truth behind Khaen-riah’s fall, or more specifically, the reason behind the alchemist Gold’s fall, before I graduate.”
“?!”
The kingdom that had technology and Mysticism developed greatly even without an archon, then was destroyed five hundred years ago.
Not much is known about Khaen-riah, and yet...
Cyno, was shocked, no, shocked isn’t enough to describe how he’s feeling.
“That’s... nearly impossible, isn’t it? Just what sort of offer did he gave you to tip the scales-”
“If I succeeded, he would answer me anything I want to know about.”
“A-Anything?”
“That’s right~”
...
“What happens... If you fail?”
Everything comes with a price, as you had said.
“Then my life would be in his hands, for him to decide my fate.”
Despite only knowing you for not long, Cyno cannot believe what you had risked.
“Are you out of your mind?! What would you possibly want to know that you’re willing to-”
“To understand the laws of this world.” You answered one a simple matter.
“It has been so long that the human race had been existing and yet none of us came close in finding the truth of the world...”
“Or perhaps someone did, and they failed to tell anyone?”
“Even Khaen-riah itself is advance with Alchemy, history tells us that their greatest alchemist Gold fell and became quite a threat... But why...?”
“...”
“What I’m trying to say is that we’re too trusting towards the gods cause we’re told to do so since we were born, you know what I had learnt after being tricked once? Doubt everything when you first see it, question it’s existence and see if you can use another point of view to perceive it.”
“Why do you doubt the gods?”
“That’s because I believe in humanity’s wisdom. I believe that even without the gods, humanity can still take care of themselves as fine.”
“If you need to rely on someone else in order to live, then what’s the meaning of living in the first place?”
“This is... quite a lot...” Cyno mumbled.
“It is a lot to take in, I agree.” You nodded as you leaned against a shelf.
“Our senior Lisa left this place after mere two years and went to Mondstadt to be a librarian despite her being a genius the Academia hasn’t seen for 200 years... Is it because she saw something that nobody else realised?”
“So what you’re saying is... There’s more to the bigger picture?” Cyno guessed as you snapped your fingers. “Bingo.”
“But that being said, questioning the gods is the same thing as raging treason against this world... “ Cyno pointed out with worry. “Are you sure this is what you want?”
“Indeed, *I’m trying to understand the rules of this chess game, so that humanity, the supposed audience of this game gets the chance to participate in it.”
“And if we can win this chess game or not, is entirely up to our legacy...”
“You have too much belief in humanity... Or should I say you have no intention of losing in the first place?”Cyno predicted with a sigh.
“Hm, seeing that you’re being so interested in our bet, perhaps you would like to become my partner in crime?”
Hearing this, Cyno finally realised that he was tricked at the point when he answered your question about his Vision.
“So that was what you were going after for all along, huh?”
“Haha, yup~ I mean, our archon didn’t state anything about not able to team up with others, so why not?”
“Able to ask anything from the God of Wisdom himself, what else more can a scholar wish for?”
Cyno understand that your words are trying to lure him, but in truth, who can give up this opportunity?
“I mean, even if we fail, I’m the only one who would lose anything so it really sounds like a pretty good deal to me~”
“And would you mind me asking for a warrant from you for the time I would be spending on this?”Cyno requested, surprising you for a bit.
“Well, how about my name? You’ve heard about me but haven’t known that yet, correct? With a part of our souls in each other’s hands, no one can run off easily, don’t you think so?”
“Alright I accept the of your con-”
“It’s a promise, not a contract.”
Cyno pauses at your sudden seriousness, he then takes notice of the frown on your face.
“...”
“You want this partnership to be built on trust and not just a piece of paper?” He guessed.
You softly nodded, trying not to meet him in the eyes.
But there’s no way that he would accept that, you two only just met after all-
“Then I promise, that I will be your partner in crime upon this bet against the Dendro Archon.”
Wha-?!
Cyno offers you a small smile. “Everyone has their own reasons, I too wish that I can understand you better within these few years... That is if you wish, of course.”
I’m glad.
“Yeah, likewise, Cyno.”
“I also by offering my name, promise that we will find out the laws of this world and allow humanity to earn the chance to be a part of this chess game.”
“My name is-“
XXX
*The chess game is referencing The Feynman Lectures on Physics, it is also referenced from Honkai Impact 3rd (another game of MiHoYo) Honkai Quest event by the character Delta, it is possible that it works as well for the world of Teyvat.
(One way that's kind of a fun analogy to try to get some idea of what we're doing here to try to understand nature is to imagine that the gods are playing some great game like chess. Let's say a chess game. And you don't know the rules of the game, but you're allowed to look at the board from time to time, in a little corner, perhaps. And from these observations, you try to figure out what the rules are of the game, what [are] the rules of the pieces moving.
You might discover after a bit, for example, that when there's only one bishop around on the board, that the bishop maintains its color. Later on you might discover the law for the bishop is that it moves on a diagonal, which would explain the law that you understood before, that it maintains its color. And that would be analogous we discover one law and later find a deeper understanding of it.
Ah, then things can happen--everything's going good, you've got all the laws, it looks very good--and then all of a sudden some strange phenomenon occurs in some corner, so you begin to investigate that, to look for it. It's castling--something you didn't expect.)
And welp, Exiled, mind me adding this?
-To their future child(ren)
And this is how your parents met//slap
With the Gnosis shaped as chess pieces and with MiHoYo’s other games referencing this...
Well theories will be theories until they’re truly revealed.
Until then Snowdrop’s gonna freak out on what the heck I just wrote
There will be continuations... Just please don’t look forward to it... OwO
Tumblr media
Oh I do NOT mind AT ALL, Snowdrop. CONTINUE. This series looks so freakin cool and refreshing even!

I know the fandom is calling out racist stereotypes that are put on Yusuf and I’m really grateful for it.
Can we point out though, that many in the fandom have some very problematic stereotypes about the European middle ages?
People did bath. A lot. They knew soap. Bath houses were important meeting points. They only closed down during the plague. Which was later than the crusades.
People that cared knew the earth wasn’t flat. The earth was proven to be spherical centuries ago.
People weren’t as pious and not all of them obeyed the church. As now you had people that followed everything their priest said and others that couldn’t care less about it. Church days and holidays were mainly important, because people could meet each other and chat, party, trade, gossip.
Same with sex. People had sex before marriage. Sometimes common people would wait for a woman to be pregnant to marry. They needed to be sure there would be children.
The inquisition and witch trials happened in early modern times.
Europe had long standing trading routes with Asia and Africa. People knew about other cultures and there was cultural exchange.
People travelled quite a lot. Not only traders, but in many crafts it was required that you travel and learn from different places. People that travelled picked up different languages.
Europe was far advanced in science, medicine, and especially technology. Yes, people knew medicine that was far more advanced than bloodletting. People knew about healing herbs and used them.
The crusades were right after a period of extreme changes in Europe. For example the Christianisation of large parts of Europe happened just a century before it. Other areas weren’t Christian at all and pagan believes and customs remained strong. Europe itself was diverse with many different states, kingdoms, cities, etc. Some were kingdoms, others were republics. Some huge and powerful, others nothing more than a village.  All with their own rules, cultures, languages.
And just again for emphasis: trading with the rest of the known world was HUGE.
Many of the stereotypes of the middle ages being this dull, bleak, and uneducated times are from those white men you like to hate. Early modern philosophers loved to put down others to show how educated and sophisticated they were. They put down all other ethnicities, but also their own ancestors. Pretending that nothing had advanced since the Roman times. Which is not true. They just wanted to pretend that the last time Europe was great, was when it was an Empire conquering the world, so they wanted to focus on that.
