Hey! I really love your Fumes of Our Love series and have read all of them multiple times. I was wondering if you’d consider continuing it with requests. 🫶🏽
I'm super busy with a lot of things both personal and for Jaydick right now. But here's a little nsfw doodle for you!
Dick didn’t like being on air.
Strange, right? Odd words from the flying boy. People always said he was the one with wings. Well, that was if he was the one doing the flying and not a giant machine with hundreds of wheeling engines and caging cockpit. Flying beyond cloud level, low atmosphere, high pressure. You can’t exactly go further up, not enough to touch the stars that you know well are there, awaiting; yet, you can’t exactly go low enough to see the ground, to feel safe, unchallenged. Middling, it is.
He found it lonely, getting stuck in the air with nothing but the infinite blue. You just get high enough to want to go higher, to realize how small every being is to the sky, the universe.
It was kind of lonely, if not the presence of John cuddling Beast’s oversized body on the couch snoring thunder with open mouth; Jefferson tentatively dancing one foot on the floor while looking out the jet window with cautious eyes; and the heavy, warm body slumping by his side breathing soundlessly.
Jason had dozed off since the first ten minutes they got into the plane. He got home later and later these days, missing dinners, always back at the front door with a tight knot between his brows. His works piled up every once in a while, work loaded up, people changed. The life of an infamous crime lord is a never ending rollercoaster, sometimes, even the thrills can tire you.
The only times that he seemed to ease himself was when he wasn’t conscious. Jason’s trust in others was as frail as an old man’s grey hair, it broke and brittled easily. It was a fitting character for him, in all terms, so fitting that he wore like his favorite jacket, belligerent to share.
Even in his sleep, the hold on Dick’s wrist was iron. He weighed his whole down as a pillar, grounding Dick to his seat. What feared him, honestly? Dick jumping out of the cabin while they were 500 hundreds feet above sea level?
Possessive he had always been, Jason to the things that he was interested in.
“He’s losen weight.” said Dick as he tucked a fallen lock out of Jason’s clean pull back with his free hand. “He really needs this. A vacation.”
Jefferson stared back at him with heavy shoulders. He was always a keen talker, but even more so when around Jason.
“Lose the knot, would’ya? Your boss won’t hear a thing. He sleeps deep once get a hold of me.”
“On the contrary, sir. His ears are light when it comes to you.”
Dick chuckled. “Relax, I may or may not have aided his rest with the accompany of mushrooms.”
Jefferson’s eyes sized up, “You poisoned him?”
“Sedation. Psilocybin, it was what was in the tea this morning, too much of it and you’ll take the first bed in the ER. But for him, it’ll be just a few hours off.”
“I didn’t know shrinks approve drugs.”
“On the contrary, we do, under our subscription and supervision, of course.”
“The irony, sneaking drug to him.”
Like selling the devil his own goods.
“Everybody needs a good sleep sometimes.”
Jefferson snorted, “You’re always so full of tricks, Blue.”
“That’s one of my charms, Jeffie.”
Approximately two hours later, the island came into shape and size under the peeking through the thickness of clouds. Their great big mansion stood lonely by the edge of the mountain, back to the dead volcano, face to the ocean, the beach as their pridely front yard. Pearl white sand spreading along the edge of 43 acres of private paradise land, tropical trees and an inactive volcano. The island itself was ripped from another crime lord, adding one filthy lump of money that Jason had pulled no strings back in spending, designing and building, knowing it would be his little family escape zone twice every year, on their wedding anniversary, and in John's summer break. No duty, no study, no risking their life and most especially, no annoying family members.
The jet slowly loosened itself down the runway at scheduled time when the sun hovered above the peak of the mountain. The staffs lined out to greet them, the local people Jason hired to keep the mansion well and maintained during the year when they were away. Two cooks, a gardener, a live-in doctor, twelve housekeepers, and a butler to keep the wheels turning in the right direction. Trevor, his trusty right-hand man selected them himself so usually Jason let these sort of micromanagement slip off his hands. Too much profile check, history run, paper work, paper work, paper work. Jason got a whole crime dynasty running in his hand, he couldn’t have time for that.
He hardly even had time for his family recently.
Jason jolted awake when Dick pinched his nose, scandalous and shaken at his own self and not of the jet lowering down the runway.
“How long have I been out?”
“Our entire trip kind of long.” John snickered. He buckled Beast’s leash and help Jefferson take down their luggage.
“Fuck.” Jason then turned to Dick, “You!”
“You’re quick to exclaim.”
“Dickface, I’ll kill you.”
He mounted Dick before he could even manage a squeal. The jet jumped when they hit the runway, enough of a bump for Jason’s knee to scrap over places that it wasn’t supposed to be.
“On second thought, I’ll kill you on our white sheet, summer bed. Slowly, leisurely,”
Jason blew into his ear when he caught the little hitch in Dick’s throat.
“That sounds absolutely horrid to me.”
“The island is big. Nobody can hear you in the waves.”
“Dreadful!”
Dick laughed turned louder when Jason blowed down the skin of his neck.
Jason knew how bring out the part that Dick didn’t know existed in himself, yearning to be love, craving for touches. And Dick? Guess his nature brought out that side of Jason, the gentle, loving one he concealed so deep under layers of metal armor and mental scars.
“Greeting lovely customers and welcome to the Marlyland Island. Temperature is currently 87 Fahrenheit, 60% in humidity, the wind is strong, the sun is high, perfect for a good wave or parrasuiting. On the right side of the jet, you can see the Paragon Mansion standing tall and mighty facing the white coast and blue ocean, a perfect resident for a fortunate couple with a young teenage boy in rebellious period, perfectly safe and and pet friendly. On the left side of the window, you can see the infamous coral reef which will be the main event for this afternoon activity. All of your luggage will kindly be transported and carefully handled by our lovely escort Jefferson Stones. With that being said, as the captain of the flight, I wish you a joyful vacation, and thank you for flying with the Red Hood Airlines.”
Jeff rolled his eyes and took down their bags one by one. Beast circled around his feet waiting for his own bag stuffed of balls, throw discs and squishy toys to be put down.
The butler was the first to greet them when the steps lowered down. Jason liked her, so did Dick. No kid. No husband. Her family sold her for a good price when their local business fell down on a small island 20 nautical miles away from their private property. She owed Jason her life. Oh, Jason liked when people owed him.
“Welcome back, sir.” She bowed to Dick and Jason but gave John a sweet kiss on the cheek. “My my, how tall you’ve become, young master.”
John’s eyes squinted into lines when the woman patted his shoulders. He rubbed his short shaved hair when realizing how much taller he had become. Once such a scrawny little kid when Jason first picked out of the alley, Jason was almost forteen by then, malnutried, dirty and so small.
Now? Kid sprouted like weeds. A rich diet, balanced sleep schedule, stability in muscle training and whole body workout, plus a premium healthcare at Gotham’s top hospitals. Four years in with them and Dick woke up one day, dumbfounded and wordless to find the boy had reached his eye level.
“I’ve heard from Master Jason how awful the weather was in the city. We’re more than honored to have you visit.”
It was her graceful way to say Jason had called and talked about what happened.
And what had happened? Gotham was entering the turning season, stepping from cool to cold before everything turned freezing. The city rained five days out of seven, unpredictably. It was dry yet humid, windy and foggy at the same time. Not exactly the perfect weather for toddlers, the old and the illed.
Jason remained invincible, but Dick? His body wasn’t as it was in prime days anymore.
“Would you like some tea in your room, lemon and gingergrass?”
“That would be great, thank you.”
While John and Beast were running loose along the wide seashore, the rest of them headed straight to the main house, and couldn't wait to get off their feet.
The mansion was massive. No matter how much time they had spent here, Dick never got used to it. 30,000 square feet of white pillars, honey tiles, black terracotta roofs, coral stones walls with open showers, baths, a pool and multiple gardens. Three stories of six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, one meeting room, two dining halls inside and outdoor, a kitchen with beach view and connecting straight to the shore and their private dock for daily fresh catch and fresh water supply. Not to mention staff rooms and working areas.
Jason had high standards. He always had.
The moment they stepped into their chamber, the sea view welcomed them. Seagulls flew from afar as the waves hit the soft milky sand. The ocean hit them in the face in all senses. Salt seasoned the air, tingled their skin. The wind liner curtains into big, blowy flows. Light swallowed their room, warmed the stone tiles down their feet.
By the legs of their Caesar size bed of white sheet and Persian pillows, Jason looked around with one good turn and smiled widely.
“It hasn’t changed one bit.”
“Gloria is a good housekeeper. You should consider raising her wage.”
Jason pulled out the first drawer of their bedside table, smirked to himself and closed it back. “I definitely will.”
The heat of the tropical land seeped through even the cold cuts of honey stone tiles, warmed their feet, dampened the two layers of clothes on Dick’s back. He dressed for the killer weather of Gotham and didn’t have time to undress for the island. The sea smelt, a distinguishing auroma of salt, fish, water and sun.
The present of this place was as sharp as the double blade Jason used to freshen up his morning.
Dick felt him on his back, his heat and his sweat, along the smell of clean and sun-dried clothes. Jason pressed himself closer to him, until Dick was sandwhich between him and the door, until all they could feel was each other.
“Jason?”
He grunt back, nuzzled close into Dick’s neck while wandering his hands. He pushed them both further to the door, further, closer, until Dick could feel Jason’s hard-on pressed hot against his lower back.
“Jason⎼”
“No, call me like that. Like you always do.”
Dick chuckled and whispered, “Littlewing.”
The moan he earnt back could color a stripper’s skin.
“You’re so hot. Gosh, you’re so goddamn hot. Can I?”
Dick laughed and elbowed Jason in the guts, just enough to hear him laugh back. “You already have me up the door.”
“Is that a yes?”
“Only if you ask nicely.”
And he stopped. Jason’s hands that were all around Dick’s body moved, tightened, until they had him squeezed tight in his chest. He held him dearly, despressly, as if they had no tomorrow.
“Can I have you, my love?”
“I like it when you plead.”
“Just for you, Dickie. Just for you.”
“I love you too, Littlewing.”
Jason made quick work with his belt and pants. He bit on Dick’s nape, twirled him a 180 and pushed him flat against the door then apologized for it. He quickly unbuckled Dick’s belt and stripped his jeans down, guided his hand up to around his neck because he knew specifically that Dick’s body was built to be shaped and bent. And oh, how he loved it when Dick pulled on the short end of his hair and scratched his neck a little.
Humans are part of only 3-5% of mammals that pair bond. Sex forms the pair bond, one pair for a lifetime. Even when they have way past the point of reproduction as the population hit somewhat above seven billions, the concept of bond remains something sacred.
And animals, they were. Animals in the way they lusted, they craved. In the way Jason grasped on Dick’s neck and shoved into him hard enough to land them against the door with a loud bang.
He was rough, as was everything of his nature. Yet he always embraced Dick carefully, tenderly, in his own way.
He crawled on Dick’s skin, twisted his nipples, fondled his stomach. He loved to feel himself through Dick and made him moan for it.
And he went hard. Hard enough Dick thought he could feel it in his guts, his lungs. There was something sadistic about his joy in making Dick yelp, watching Dick get twisted and turned and all messed up. But at the same time, the way he whined and cooed into Dick’s neck like a wounded animal faltered all the strength and courage of an iron man.
“God, I love you. I love you so fucking much.” Jason panted, but it wasn’t like Dick had the mind to hear. He was way out. Thinking about it, sex with Jason was always pretty much a marathon. Dick was an athelete, he gave as good as he went, but strength and stamina weren’t things he could run up with someone with the Lazarus Pit in their veins.
Also, to his defense, Jason grew up to be very well adorned.  Too well adorned. Dick’s body was built for a lot of things but it certainly wasn’t built for this.
Jason’s hips faltered at the last minute and then finally, they stilled. Dick stuck flat to the door, eyes rolled up, chest heaving. His expensive shirt had definitely lost some buttons, and pretty sure that the stickiness against the mahogany wood was his saliva and… something else.
“You’re still hard.” Dick grunted, hypersensive.
“Have you tried being in yourself? People don’t go down that easily, babe.”
“You’re just young.”
“It’ll stay up for you even in the grave, honey. Fuck viagra.”
“Even when my butt is wrinkled and withered?”
“Can you not say that right now so I can not imagine about it?”
They laughed, stayed connected, frozen on their feet until their knees gave out and they both slid down on the floor in a bundle. Climbing down from euphoria, Jason landed kisses down the length of his neck. Dick licked the tips of his husband’s fingers, kissing his knuckles.
“You okay?”
“Yeah.” Dick nodded, winced when Jason pulled out. "Need head?"
Jason choked, laughed, and kissed him some more. "You'll be the death of me."
They were tongues down each other's throat when a knock came on the door that was right by Dick's ear. Dick almost bit himself and Jason.
"Sir, if you both are free now, we would like to have you down for supper. The young master is already hafl-way through his plate."
She knew. Yeah, she gotta knew exactly what they had done against this door. Most likely even heard it.
“We’ll be down in a minute.” said Jason with his hand down under Dick’s shirt again.
They tickled each other, laughed, almost fell on the floor laughing, and symphonized the dance of their skins with the blue waves of the Bahamas ocean.

Last blog
Well probably, as I am leaving mexico tomorrow for Canada, and I did not keep the blog going last year.
Public transit in Mexico city is good if you know where to catch what Happily there is transit to the airport and the bus ran right beside my hotel, where I,d seen buses marked Buenavista /aeropuerto. Having gotten the right bus(6pesos) i rode to the transfer point(with much useful advice) and no crowding at 10 am. My Metro pass was empty, but the driver let me on anyway, and I had to refill it at the station. Again a helpful employee showed me how and i put another 30 pesos in, the fare to the aeropuerto. Delivered right to the Terminal 1, and still time for an ice cream, before struggling with the crowds surging into Volaris airlines(cheapo flights, full) Had a few bum steers, but having done this before I was able to find the security entrance(no signs, just follow the anxious looking people), and passed after emptying out all orifices. Being the cheapo Volaris gets the end gates so it,s a walk, but at least it was not the delivery busses that Aeromexico uses to get passengers to planes waiting on the tarmac. I was anxious about my boarding pass, printed out by the cooperative lady at Hotel Isabel, but when the time came the harrased attendent did not even scan the bar code, just a wave through. Full plane, easy flight and down into the hot air blast of Puerto at 3 pm. Phew, it got hotter over my 2 week absence! No signage for collectivos, did I want a taxi? More asking and presto here is a collectivo, only 80 pesos to Casa Dan. Taxi 200+. By 4 oclock I was back in room #3 and showered, unpacked and in the pool. Water , which was chilly in January is now soup, a tepid bath, but floating free was very relaxing.
Made a trip the next AM to the old mercado for nuts, coffee, and fresh fruit, a huge bag. Prices a re climbing, and though I shop at the wholesalers I see things generally costing 20% more than in October. Cabs have doubled in a year, and collectivo trucks up 30%. Room rates at Dans are up 20% too, so my room is now $1200 canadian a
month, still a good deal, and my favorito.
Only 5 days in town, so I went to Playa Manzanillo for a swim, but the sea was covered in brown scummy foam. probably harmless die off of algae in cold water, but definitely not appealing, so I just loafed on the beach in palm a shade. By 11 the beach was filling up, time to go to Tere comedor for Huevos Mexicana with those fresh tortillas. Place is always busy, as the food is cheap and traditional, and the service is surprisingly good. All I could eat, a nice break, and back to the pool. And that,s where I,ve been, reading in my hammock, watching the sun go down from the top terrace, and eating well. Got a few things at Super Che like granola and yogurt, big juice boxes, etc. so am stocked up till departure.
Mornings walking my daily mile along the beach and back on Calla Morro. There.s a new boutique hotel there that looks good, AC rooms, cafe, shared kitchen, reasonable privacy, gringa owned with a pool in the works. No I,m not leaving Dans, but it,s good to have on site knowledge of alternatives, so 1400 Can a month , new clean, a bit away from the strip so quieter, but not yet a place I,d be comfortable walking to after dark. Of course I,m always home by dark, and Taxis are an alternative if I,d gone to the Split. Speaking of the Split, 1st I,d heard that Aldy had bought it, and 2nd Barry fell down drunk. Situation normal. Aldy from Quadra island in BC is a character, one of those people who can drink beyond believable amounts, and who has WCB pension for life that allows him to indulge in a series of follies.
Peaches and Barry have left, and i,m the only old guy/long stay left. Effusive welcome from the staff, and they have been enjoying more fruit smoothies. I arranged to leave a tip for all 10 of them , only 100 pesos each, but equitable. The maids get tips en season. The 100 is sort of a thank you for all their kindnesses.
Confirmed my flight and bus times. looks like I can take the Sur bus at 11 am and be at the airport by 1pm, 4 hours before my flight, in case of immigration difficulties. Packed sandwiches for travel (Westjet does not feed the cattle car section) and spent many hours cramming my load into the overloaded suitcase. Booze for friends, coffee, cinnamon, nuts, vanilla, the things that are here. I did get all the leavers into the bucket for the bodega storage, then decided to add a cardboard box of bits to the pile. Suitcase came in overweight but I don't believe the bathroom scale as It,s older than me. Oddly, the real hassle is clothes. I live in flip flops and shorts, now I must put on underwear, long pants, t shirt ,long sleeved shirt, vest , coat and raincoat, socks are wool, all is heavy. I'll try to take most in a bag and put it on as I progress . Vancouver is 12 degrees daytime, 4 degrees at night. Brrr!
And just to encourage my leaving we had a 5,1 earthquake at 8 pm, a bed shaker, but no damage or aftershocks. I,ve ridden out a 6.1 and a 6.5 here, so a teremoto tremblor is nothing. Maru wrote that she was at her ancient aunties 17th floor apartment when the sirens went off, but there was nothing she could do but hope. Mexico city shook , but no damage. Seems the subways are built to float, bridges are engineered for quakes, and people just carry on. New in CDMX is an aerial tramway 4 miles long linking the favellas on the steep slopes to transit. People can take the tram(9 pesos) to the subway in 10 minutes instead of 1 hour in a mini van. Looked very odd sweeping over the city. like where,s the snow? With 35 million people to move its an alternative.
A few emails home, much packing, I,m ready! Watching the sunset last night a thrush warbled in the fig tree and the sound was so like robins in the spring that i got choked up. Memories , lost love, springs we'll never share. I shall throw myself back into Lasqueti society and move on.
So blog fans, keep well. dream big. live life fully, and there will be more...... Jack

im WEAK for my faves as parents and i know lots of y'all are too so here are
bachelors as dads vibes
(bachelorettes as moms will come soon too ❤️ under cut cause it got very long lol)
sebastian
a chill dad. when u were very little he'd let u sit in his lap while he codes and consequently u find heavy metal soothing cause he would be playing it while he works and u would always fall asleep against him
if he wasn't using his second computer u could play around on it while he works. 'existing in each other's company while u both do stuff' time becomes a regular thing even as u get older, u would do ur homework next to him at his desk and he'd help if u were confused
the first time u were deemed old enough to go for a ride on his motorcycle u were SO fucking hyped even if u had to be absolutely decked out in protective gear. sometimes while u were in high school he'd help you flex by picking you up/dropping you off on the bike
would bundle u up in his hoodies as a toddler and there's a few pics of u absolutely SWIMMING in them with the hood all the way over ur face pretending to be the grim reaper. he'd never been so proud
elliott
an eloquent dad, but still has goofy dadlike tendencies. he may be the picture of a dark academia dilf with his slacks and button ups sipping coffee in the morning over a manuscript, but he'll still make the jokes. calls u things like little one and taught u to play piano
he got u ur own little bookshelf for all ur baby books and he'd read to you every single night without fail. he'd make up stories too and u would help and make a collab tho it often got u more excited than relaxed for bed but it was worth it!!! when u were grown up u helped him compile the short stories u made up together and published it. he'd also share with u poems he wrote for you and about you over the years, lots of them to do with the wonder of watching a whole tiny person grow into a big person
would always take u on nature walks and play at the beach!!! u would find shells and rocks to give to him and he'd always look like u just handed him pure gold
u made a pact that u would sit still for him while he did ur hair if u could braid his hair in turn. u both looked very stylish
sam
cool dad!!! fun dad!!!! watches anime with u when u get into it and is forever ur player 2. if u had a skateboard or a scooter he'd always show u up by pulling off sick tricks and it became a friendly rivalry. taught u to stick it to the man at a very early age. teaches u to play guitar and took u to ur first rock concert when u were like 8
there are baby photos of u wearing sunglasses that cover half ur face and when asked about it he'd say 'u were just a rly cool baby!!!!' in some of them he's wearing matching sunglasses and carrying u in one of those front baby pouches. he'd also always sing to you as a baby and still does it idly sometimes and has written songs for u!!!!
ur #1 hypeman. praises u for everything and always makes sure u know how cool u are just for existing. he loses his mind at ur grade school talent show and at ur graduation he's there holding up his phone and crying like FUCK IT UP KENNETH!!!!! 😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️
tho alongside all the fun he teaches u to be very responsible and polite and above all extremely kind!!!!
shane
has the most potent typical dad energy. the socks with sandals, the jokes, the ac/dc, the funny hobby projects, the rivalry with other pta parents, all of it. calls u squirt and kiddo and the kind to ruffle ur hair. always gives u piggy back rides even as u get older, says it helps him stay in shape. when u were little you'd always bap ur baby hands against his stubble cause heehee funny scratchy face
u loved when he was in charge of dinner growing up cause it was often takeout pizza/burgers. 'hey im making a pot of kraft dinner should i double it for u' kind of guy, adds cut up hot dogs and after ur other parent voices a need for nutrition adds frozen veggies too. VERY good at cooking all kinds of eggs tho, would always feed u eggs from his own chickens and would accept nothing less!!!
teaches u a lot about chickens and some of ur fave memories with him are in the coop or chillin in a field in spring with him and the new chicks. some other faves include the regular tea parties with him and cousin jas, and even as u both get older u all sit down and have tea together sometimes and occasionally break out one of the old barbie movies for funsies
u learned how to say fuck from him when u were 3 and he died laughing. if called and told that u got into a fight at school would reply with 'did they win'
harvey
sweet, dorky doctor dad. would get SUPER worried whenever u got so much as a cold, made u stay home and rest and HYDRATE. taught u proper medical standard handwashing from when u first learned how to turn on the tap, also taught u a lot of basic first aid. when u were fussy he would read u his old textbooks from med school and it'd get you to sleep in minutes
refuses to let u leave the house without eating something first and would often get up early to make u a big breakfast before school (it's the most important meal of the day!!!!). yes it's ok if ur late ur english teacher can wait until you've had ur veggies. when u were a baby his standard of keeping u fed was 'if i had to change less than five diapers a day it wasn't enough'. encourages taking a snack and water everywhere
as u got older u realized how hardworking he is so u make sure he knows how much u love and appreciate him, goes all out for his bday and father's day like how he goes all out for u every day and it makes him cry. he cries at ur first birthday and ur graduation too, cried when u got him a #1 DAD mug specifically for his morning coffee, he just cries a lot and it's very endearing, dad taught u it's okay to be emotional. u also gift him funky socks to wear at work and he goes bananas for them
he taught u how to assemble model planes and u would sit with him while he tuned his old radio, u liked the bwee bwee sounds. he would play jazz and swing and dance with u standing on his feet. when u were little u liked to play with his moustache and occasionally he would fall asleep while watching u but the most u ever did was add a goatee to the stache with washable marker which he thought was pretty funny
alex
strong dad!!! jock dad!!!!! would flex and let u hang off his bicep, play wrestle (u would always win), sit u on his shoulders and run around making airplane noises, play sportsball in the yard and would come up with fun challenges for u if u got bored of catch. pretty much the master of keeping ur baby self entertained and was always there to tuck u in for a nap when u got tired out
makes an extra protein shake for u every morning and loads of scrambled eggs, will also sneak u a cookie tho
he's always super encouraging and positive and enthusiastic about everything u do which u pick up fast. u go to his games and even if sports turns out not to be ur thing the fact that ur there rooting for him makes him put in 1000% effort, calls u his good luck charm!!!! he will also throw u over his shoulders and use u for weightlifting while u shout encouragement directly into his ear. this continues until ur grown up (and sometimes even then so he can flex even as an 'old man')
gets really really worried about you whenever ur sick or get hurt and will lose sleep over it but stays upbeat for ur sake. he will cuddle u tho. sometimes you'll ask for stories about ur grandma and he'll tell u and it's so nice to him to talk about his mother and smile instead of being sad, you help him heal because it's so wonderful to think of her as a grandmother and how proud she'd be. he plays her music box for u to help u sleep when ur little and it still makes u feel sleepy and safe when ur older

Exotic Vacation
I based #2 on the AU list on my own honeymoon. I’m sorry the prompt never gets to the actual vacation part of the vacation… But if I added all the semi-public beach smex and threesomes this prompt would have been WAY too long.
So have some committed-relationship spice, with mirror smex.
2214 words, explicit

Black Bikini Bottoms
Des and Solas hadn’t taken a honeymoon as newlyweds, as they had been new parents as well. They tied the knot at City Hall and promised each other they would take a trip for their first anniversary instead. But, between financial strain and Des’ separation anxiety, they’d called it off.
Now it was nearly their second anniversary and their daughter, Isla, was two years old, and Des was ready for a break. Cruise tickets for five days and four nights through Rivaini islands had been booked, plane tickets for her mom to stay here with Isla had been booked, and an appointment with a waxing salon so Des could get bikini-ready had been booked.
To be honest it wasn’t about the new bikini she’d packed so much as Solas seeing her in — and out — of it. Between work, parenthood, medical scares, and life in general, her and Solas’ s.ex life was all but non-existent, and she was hoping to change that, if only for the week.
The morning before was hectic — saying hello to her mother, goodbye to her daughter, and loading on the plane. They arrived late in Rivain and headed straight to their moderately-priced hotel room, where they both crashed. They did not have sex. (Thank goodness; she was exhausted.)
They were up before dawn on the day of their anniversary to begin the on-boarding process. Tickets, passports, suitcases, and a mandatory cruise ship safety lecture from the crew. It was after noon before they were free.
They managed to find their tiny windowless room well enough; it was on the lowest level and practically at the rear of the ship. After they’d checked that none of their luggage had gone missing in transit and settled a bit she sat on the bed. As it was practically the only place to sit her husband did the same. They chatted a bit, appraising the experience so far, and she scooted close, suggestively running her hand up and down his thigh as he commented on the excellent service and cheap booze.
Then a loud rumble started up, and they had to raise their voices to be heard.
He grimaced. “That must be the engine. I had not realized it would be so loud…”
Neither had she. Unlike Solas, she was a light sleeper and she was already starting to stress about the noise keeping her awake the entire trip.
But she was determined to break their dry spell. “It’s for the best,” she purred, running her hand along his chest. “Now we don’t have to worry about being too noisy.”
She pulled him into a kiss, trying to put heat into it. She wasn’t actually in the mood, yet, but she was sure she’d get there.
They kissed for several moments, nibbling on lips and necks. Neither mad a move to further, though, so they slowed to caresses. The longer it went the more painfully obvious it was that this wasn’t working for either of them. She moved her hand down and cupped hi, just to be sure, but she didn’t find anything significant.
She pulled back with a sigh and leaned her forehead against his.
He sighed as well. “I’m sorry. I’m just tired, we can still—”
“No, no, it’s okay. It’s not just you,” she admitted. She forced a smile and they stayed there a moment, heads together, eyes closed. Their hands found each other. She was trying not to get worked up over it, to blame herself, her body, to spit out something like ‘I guess we just don’t have sex anymore!’.
It was a shame. They used to have great sex. Like, really fucking good. Shouldn’t she be craving that? Would he, if she still looked like she did back then?
She reminded herself there was no reason to force themselves into some mediocre orgasms just because society said that their ‘honeymoon’ should be some kind of uber-romantic fuck-a-thon.
When she was sure she could open her eyes without getting teary she did so — only to find that while she was trying not to lose it the asshole was nodding off right where he sat.
“There’s a couple hours until our assigned dinner time,” she said, and his eyes popped open with a start. “Do you want to take a nap until then?”
“Yes. Very much so. But I would not
want you to leave you all alone on our anniversary…”
She waved it off. “I’ll nap for a bit, too, then I’ll just read. I brought a book.”
He didn’t need any more convincing and climbed under the covers. She got up and turned off the light.
She blinked.
“Holy shit.”
“Yes,” he agreed, sounding just as surprised as she was. It was dark. Like, completely lightless, even with elven vision. The blackout curtains in their bedroom at home had nothing on a windowless room under the ocean, apparently. “There’s no light from the hall; I suspect the rooms are water-tight.”
She hummed her agreement as she felt her way back to the bed. She didn’t bother setting an alarm; she never napped for more than an hour or so. With as loud as the engine was, she would be lucky to nap at all.
~~~~~
So, apparently, a cruise ship engine made for a wonderful white noise machine, especially when combined with the comforting darkness of the room. Des knew she’d over slept immediately. She didn’t bother trying to find her phone to check the time; they were out of service range and cross time zones. Instead she found the remote for the ceiling-mounted TV, which has a “channel” just to tell you the time and introduce you to the captain, as well as a few others explaining the islands they’d make port at in the coming days.
So much for a sixty minute nap; it had been six hours.
She hadn’t muted the TV fast enough and Solas stirred. “What time is it?” he mumbled. “Did we miss dinner?”
His tone told her that he already knew the answer.
“You could say that.”
“There’s room service, right?”
“I think they’re closed…”
“Well let’s try, at least.”
They did. The kitchen was closed, but uncooked meals were still available. Solas ordered a sandwich and she got the salad, and instead of eating a romantic anniversary dinner by the sea they ate in relative silenced in a room the size of a closet. At least wine didn’t require cooking.
C’est la vie. They went over their schedule for the next day, and which activities (‘excursions’ as the ship called them) they planned to hit. Once their plan was in place and the drinks were finished they went right back to bed.
With their good mood, full bellies, wine, and rest, Des thought they would ‘celebrate’ some more… But instead they wished each other a happy anniversary and went right back to bed. They did not have sex.
This time Des’ disappointment was genuine, and she allowed herself her tears. She might as well mourn the apparent loss of this part of their lives as Solas snored away behind her. Maybe they really were one of those couples after all. They had love, and family, and a life together, and sex wasn’t much of a part of that. And that was okay. But it also kinda sucked.
~~~~~~
The alarm woke them in the morning. Unlike the dinners that were scheduled in the dining room at the same time every night, breakfast would be buffet style for two hours on the upper deck, so there was no hurry. In theory. Des hurried anyway, excited to finally enjoy the view of glittering ocean for as far as her eyes could see as she sipped mimosas.
She was pulling out her outfit for the day (bikini included) when Solas invited her to shower with him. It was something they did pretty much whenever schedules allowed, so she didn’t expect any hanky-panky (and tried to convince herself she wasn’t disappointed when she was proven right).
He scrubbed her back and she watched him shave his head, checking him for missed spots. They got out and toweled dry.
She reached for her bikini bottoms but his hand shot out and grabbed her wrist, grip noticeably firm. “Who said you’re allowed to get dressed?” he asked.
His wicked little grin was enough to send a tingle through her. “I can’t wait to see the incredible view,” she answered coquettishly. He didn’t bother with a response, just pulled her in and kissed her hungrily, almost immediately finding her tongue with his. His hands moved from her wrist to waist to grab great handfuls of her ass.
She tried to give as good as she got but she still had to wrap her arms around his neck just to keep her balance with the way her pressed into her, forcing her to back up until her butt hit the tiny vanity. She puled back to catch her breath, scraping her nails along his freshly-shaved scalp. He used the opportunity to go for her neck, sucking and biting as he pleased. She knew he was leaving marks on her but happily let him.
Des gasped lightly as his fingers traced to the apex of her thighs, teasing her. Fuck, it had been way too long… She canted her hips against his hand to prove how ready she was already, just in case it wasn’t super obvious.
It must have been because he hooked his elbow under her knee and lifted, speaking her open. She giggled in surprise but was cut off by her own hitching breath as he used his other hand to finger her. She buried her nose in the crook of his neck, clean and warm, until he murmured appreciatively in her ear, “Now there’s an incredible view…”
She turned to look over her shoulder only to see her own bare ass reflected in three different angles by the vanity mirrors.
Des smirked. She propped up her leg higher and leaned forward into Solas, arched her back to give him a pornographic view of his fingers disappearing into her cunt. He groaned and grabbed her ass with his now-free hand, lifting her higher still.
He worked her with those long, familiar fingers until she couldn’t take it anymore. He ignored her increasingly insistent noises of frustration — she knew he knew what she wanted, but the asshole always wanted to hear her beg for it. Finally she dropped all pretense and just said, “Dick. Now.”
He ignored her still, so she sunk her teeth into his neck, biting hard.
His surprise yelp was followed by a chuckle just before he grabbed her by the hips and spun her around. She met his grin with a smile of her own and bent over to brace her hands on the vanity table. She watched in satisfaction as his gaze dropped to her tits. Then she wiggled her butt to get him back on task.
He rook the time to run his hands up along her curves, all the way up to her shoulders and back, giving her ass a loud smack before finally aligning his cock up and — Fuck. Creators, she’d forgotten just how damn good when her husband fucked her with that big cock of his. The toys in her drawer at home had nothing on the grip of his hands pulling her hips to him as he thrust steadily into her.
She looked up at him in the mirror but couldn’t make eye contact as he was intently watching their bodies moving together instead. She’d been stupid to think he was tired of her body… He’d never said or even done anything to make her think he was no longer attracted to her, and the way he looked at her now was anything but disinterested.
She reached up to squeeze her own breast — that caught his attention. His eyes snapped up to hers and she continued the treatment, tugging her nipple for her own satisfaction, watching him watching her. Then she watched nothing at all as her eyes screwed up and she came for him, though she felt his heavy gaze even then.
He rode her through her orgasm, steady, controlled as always. Always, that was, until it was his turn. Once she opened her eyes again he dug his fingers into her and took her hard. She moaned with each thrust and it was all she could do to brace herself against the table as he lost himself, pounding into her fast, hard, deep.
She watched his face as he came at last, smiled when his eyes opened to meet hers. He smiled back and gave her ass another slap before pulling out. “Worth it for that view alone.”
She rolled her eyes and went to grab a washcloth from the shower, giving him one as well. Then her the bikini bottoms she’d been reaching for before, like a proper gentleman.
“Why thank you.” She grumbled as she started pulling them on, “Gonna get cum stains on it before I even get in the water…”
Solas cupped her face and pulled her into a long, satisfied kiss. Then he said with a smirk, “It won’t be the last time. Black was a poor color choice for our honeymoon.”

My itinerary is NUTS
I think I have one reservation left to make (the city pass) and then I don't have any Iceland expenses until I'm literally there?
OKAY.
This is all subject to cancellation For Obvious Reasons:
Thursday, September 9: Fly in just after 6am (which my body will think is 11pm...), buy snacks and possibly alcohol at the duty-free, take bus to Blue Lagoon, stay as long as I like (or until I get hungry--their food is expensive even for Iceland), take bus rest of the way into Reykjavik. Drop off suitcase at my guesthouse if they let me. Find and eat food. Buy some groceries (at Vegan búðin if I can) and/or yarn, depending on timing. (Guesthouse check-in is 3pm.) My plans are loose after that depending on how early I realize I feel like I've been run over, but general shopping-as-sight-seeing seems likely. I'm hoping to make it to like, 9pm before passing out. Jet lag, PMS, and lack of sleep vs. my body always perking up in the evening: who will win?!
Friday: Gonna have a city pass that gets me free entry into a bunch of museums plus bus fare. I need to look up the museum list on a map; I know there's some I really want to see like the open-air museum, and some that aren't a priority. I think it also gets me up the elevator to the top of Hallgrímskirkja? (Note to self to look up the hours of things; a lot of museums have pretty short hours.)
Saturday: Daytime plans are loose. Might see some things that the museum pass doesn't cover, like The Phallological Museum. (Edit: need to rent trekking poles!) That evening I have a reservation for a bus/hike to the volcano, though. :D :D :D (Here's hoping the weather cooperates. If the lava gives us a good show--it's been super off-and-on--that's a nice bonus!)
Sunday: Depending on soreness/exhaustion level, and how shy I'm feeling, go to church at Hallgrímskirkja, despite the service being in Icelandic. (They do have an English-language service once a month, but not while I'm there.) Go to the big Olympic pool with the twisty slide I remember from when I was a kid, maybe?
(The guy who does most of the youtube videos for Grapevine has a walking tour, but it's a little pricey. I'd get to meet his dog Polly, though!)
That's the afternoon/evening I have tickets to see Björk at Harpa, though; assuming it's not postponed. I might be too busy vibrating in excitement to do anything lolol.
Monday: bus tour along the South coast! Pretty beaches! At least one waterfall! A glacier? I forget what else is on the list tbh but it's a like, 9-hour trip, phew.
Tuesday: get my rapid-antigen covid test required to get on the plane home. Otherwise a chill day. Go swimming if I didn't on Sunday. Maybe even if I did, there's certainly enough pools, lol.
Wednesday: Golden Circle bus tour (Þingvellir, Gullfoss, the geothermal park with the geysir Strokkur). It also stops at a farm that's famous for ice cream made from the milk of the cows that live there, which is pointless for me (who knows, maybe they'll have fruit sorbet?), but going by pictures and reviews you also get to pet Icelandic sheep and horses and cows, which is the real reason I picked the tour that included the farm, lol.
Thursday: Take city bus to Keflavik, get off near where my old house was (I've looked, there's a stop really close by), walk around awkwardly with a wheely suitcase for ...I think I have two hours? before getting back on that bus to take it the rest of the way to the airport four hours before my flight leaves because right now coming and going takes longer than usual due to having to present the negative covid test. Ponder buying Brennivín despite the fact that I rarely drink anymore. I will probably buy some candy including Opal licorice, though. Possibly this is when I fill my suitcase with enough presents for people that I have to check the damn thing lol.
Looser things to fit in around other plans: walking or bicycling along the waterfront area, including getting a selfie with The Sun Voyager (a big metal sculpture thing). Taking the ferry to Videy island to walk around and enjoy the views. Lazily perusing a bookstore's English section. Drinking tea or coffee in a cafe while knitting or reading. Eating too many baked goods and drinking far too much coffee.
I have a list of people I plan to send postcards to, which reminds me I need to text some people for addresses. (The list is admittedly short, in part because mailing postcards to the states from Iceland is like $2 a pop, and sending it from Iceland is like half the point.)
There's also an assortment of goofy tourist-trap types of things like Perlan (museum-y stuff), and FlyOver Iceland (which is basically a high-tech immersive movie). There's a place that dresses you up like a Viking and takes professional photos for $100 that, honestly, looks dorky but fun. I think there's one that replicates the aurora, as well?
Speaking of which: there's already been some pretty strong aurora activity this year, so if there's a night with an aurora and decent weather, there's tour companies that either drive you to a more remote location or put you on a boat to see it without the light pollution of the city.
My original plans included going out dancing/drinking one night--the bar scene in Reykjavik is notorious, and I wanted to at least stop in at Kiki Queer Bar for a bit. But the recent spike in cases has been attributed to people (including locals) going to bars/clubs, where it's impossible to social distance and people have to yell to talk to each other and nobody is wearing masks.
In general my plan is to eat the free cold breakfast at the guesthouse every morning, eat less-expensive grab'n'go meals or ones I make at the guesthouse when I can, and limit myself to an average of one (1) meal in a restaurant most days. Partially because food in Iceland is just expensive. Partially to limit my exposure. (Outdoor dining is limited during a time of year that's likely to be 50f with wind and/or rain, okay.)
I fully expect that I'm going to be more thorough/paranoid about mask-wearing than the locals. I know the tour buses all require and enforce mask-wearing, and IIRC the ones I reserved are all smaller groups (less than 20). But I'm already at way more risk than a lot of tourists who rent cars/campervans and only see people at waterfalls and campgrounds and gas stations.
What happens if I test positive before I leave? I get to quarantine in a non-fancy hotel in Iceland for ten days on their dime. They even bring food to your door. This is obviously not ideal for many reasons, especially if I do actually feel ill, so yeah. Gonna be careful about the masking etc. while I'm there.

Study of a Family in Contrast
A girl is born in London, England. She has pale blond hair, blue eyes and fair skin. She is a good girl, a smart girl and her parents love her dearly. She goes to church on Sundays, listens to the preacher and does not pray. She looks through stained glass windows and wonders. She looks at people on the street and wonders. She is accepted to Oxford University on scholarship and graduates with a doctoral degree in Anthropology. Her parents hug her goodbye when she gets on a plane ready to take her to the Valley of the Kings.
A boy is born in Khartoum, Sudan. He has dark black hair, brown eyes and dark skin. He is a good boy, a smart boy and his parents love him dearly. He reads books, listens to music and does not fear. He looks at the buildings around him and wonders. He looks at the people around him and wonders. His parents hug him goodbye, when he gets on a plane ready to take him to Brooklyn College in the United States. Years later, he flies back to Africa, a doctorate in Egyptology taking him to the Valley of the Kings.
Years later a dark haired boy and light haired girl live in a house in LA. Their parents met in the Valley of the Kings. Their father plays the saxophone and they dance around the living room to jazz. Their mother reads to them at night, chapters and passages from her college biology textbook, and they fall asleep curled around each other.
A mother, with blond hair and blue eyes, dies in London, England. A father, with black hair and brown eyes, walks to the hotel they're staying at, but breaks down crying before he can explain. Blue and brown eyes, look on in confusion. “Where’s mommy?”
The funeral is on a hot and sunny LA day. A father, who is no longer a husband, stares ahead and sees nothing. His eyes have run dry from crying. A dark skinned hand curls around a lighter skinned hand, brother and sister trying to find what little solace they can. The little girl sobs and tries to climb further into her brother's chair.
It’s not long after the funeral that they come for her. They had never approved of the man their daughter married, with his dark skin and dark eyes and an accent they had never heard from another mouth, stirring up feelings of wrong and different. There’s a lot of accusations: mental unrest, unsuited for parenthood, traveling too much to look after two kids. They gave many reasons to take her away and none for not also taking their grandson, except for eyes that can only look at skin, seeing dark and light. The reasons aren't good enough to break up a family. There’s lawyers and yelling and more lawyers, and eventually they find a judge who looks at the family and can’t see loving siblings, can’t see the desperation in a father’s eyes, can’t see the hate in the grandparent’s. Instead the judge only sees dark skin, and blue eyes, and other, other, other so a family is torn apart and a girl is flown away to London, England.
….
A young man and a young woman walk on a beach, shoes slowly filling with gritty sand. The young man has dark hair, dark skin and dark eyes, like his father. He wears a black pinstripe suit with a black tie, white shirt and scuffed black loafers. It’s far too hot for the early autumn day. The young woman has light hair, light skin and blue eyes, like her mother. She wears a black thigh length dress, black fishnet stockings, a black leather jacket and combat boots. It’s far too hot for the LA sun. It’s the first time either sibling has seen the other in over ten years.
The funeral let out hours ago, researchers and academics having already finished paying respects to their colleague, a titan in the field of Egyptology. It was another annoyingly sunny funeral for this family. It doesn’t get any easier to bury a parent, but ten years certainly makes a difference. A lot can happen in ten years. A brother and sister can forget how to be siblings. Now they sit on a bench overlooking a vast ocean and silently hope the other one will start talking first.
The girl was never any good at being quiet so she gives up the game first. “I kinda think I want to stay in the states for a bit.” She chances a look at her brother's profile. He hasn’t looked at her, back straight and stern eyes locked on the horizon. “I technically do have dual citizenship, and I just finished getting my degree in theatre. Maybe I should stay in LA, try to make it as a star. British accents are sexy after all.” She pauses for a response. Nothing. She fidgets and ties again. “Maybe I could head to Vegas, it always seemed like a fun place to be. I could take a road trip anywhere I liked.”  A glance is shot at her brother. “Maybe you could come with.” Still nothing “Family road trip or whatever.”
Another moment of silence before, “Stop.”
The young woman jumps, double checking that the voice came from her brother beside her. “What? Stop what?”
It’s like a flood gate had been loosened. “Stop acting like we’re family, like we always see each other over school breaks and holidays and this is just a random run in. I haven't seen you in ten years, I haven't been close to you in ten years, the only reason we’re even on the same continent now is that our father-” His hands clench the bench. He ducks his head to avoid letting the young woman beside him see his tears. He takes a steadying breath and continues, “my father is dead.” He looks up again, more in possession of his feelings. Brown eyes look into blue. “Don’t pretend this is normal or that we’re family, when you weren't there.”
Maybe in another time or place with a different family there would be tears and hugs. But not with this family and not with these people. Instead of feeling sorrow and tenderness, the girl sees red. “I wasn’t there? Do you have any idea how you sound!? I didn’t choose to be taken to London, I was a child, I didn’t have a say! You have no idea what it was like to be me, to be thrust into a new country, a new school, an entirely different culture, completely on my own! Everytime I tried to talk about you or dad I just got these blanks stares, no I got stares of disgust and confusion because everytime someone would make a stupid fucking skin tone comment like that mattered! I didn’t have a mom and my dad just didn’t care enough to keep me and it sucked!” She sucks in a breath then continues yelling. Rage is always easier than vulnerability. “So fuck you for saying I’m not part of this family, I already know that, bully me for trying!”
Neither of the siblings are particularly good at desculation. The brother shoots right back, “Oh I’m so sorry people looked at you like that when you talked about your family! Sorry if I don’t sound super sincere, because people look at me like that every minute of my life! There are some things you were just never going to go through, and being taken in by our-your grandparents has only made it so that you can’t understand what me and dad go through. You weren't there. Everything was different for you. You got to have two people to run to when you had problems, and you got to breeze through life with that chip on your shoulder without fear of being seen as a thug! So no, you don’t just get to show up and pretend everything is hunky-dory, because it’s not and we are not on the same level!”
Both siblings heave in anger, both feeling a gap, a loss of half of themself but not feeling any way to fix it. The brother calms down first, and he decides it would be better to leave than continue the fight. He can’t remember why he even wanted to try. Maybe one last shot though, even if just to absolve him of the responsibility of failure.
“Look here’s my number,” he rips out a page from a leather bound journal, jotting down the numbers. He continues, “maybe, give it a call, maybe don’t.” He hands it to her and stands up. “Have fun in Vegas. I’m flying back to Brooklyn tomorrow and frankly I hope I never see you again.”
He goes to walk away. A hand on his wrist stops him. His sister pulls out an old gum wrapper and jots down a different number. “Mine too. You don’t just get to walk away and put this on me. I’m staying at an AirBNB down on Diamond Street, if you want to swing by. Maybe talk more.” She hands it to him, then gets up herself.
A pair of siblings walk in the opposite direction on a beach, gritty sand filling their shoes. They’re both left with the lingering feeling that their parents would be very sad to look at them and see only strangers.
...
The phone rings showing a number with no contact name. Someone picks up immediately, having already memorized the number.
“Hey.”
“Hey.”
There’s a pause before the young man continues, “So you decided not to fly back.” A pause. “Where you headed?”
A feminine voice sighs. “Thought I might give Vegas a try, then see what happens. Easy to make it up when it’s just you.”
“Well you see about that….actually my flight back to Brooklyn got cancelled at the last minute.” The flight in fact doesn’t leave for two hours.
The excuse is rather transparent. “Oh really. Well that's a stroke of bad luck.”
“Especially seeing as my hotel reservation expired this morning. I was thinking maybe I could just drive back to the East Coast.”
“Well I’ve always heard that road trips are an American tradition.”
“Yes, seeing as you’re headed that way….” the young man trails off.
His sister picks it up “.....Driver gets to pick the music.”
“Then I get first turn at the wheel, I have no clue what sort of abomination you listen to but smooth jazz is the best for driving.”
“Ugh, I’m going to regret this aren't I,” but the young woman is smiling brightly. Two siblings continue to talk on the phone, hoping to find common ground. After all they’re family.

Lights, Camera, Coffee in LA
Ok, this is my absolute first time posting a story I’ve written and I am anxious as hell about it lol. Please be kind!
Summary: Elena “Lena” is off to LA for the summer to visit her brother. Her summer gets off to a great start when she ends up sat next to none other than Chris Evans on the plane. (I suck at summaries!) Thank you SO much to @denisemarieangelina for reading and providing feedback, and a WAY better title than I’d managed to think of! You’re AMAZING!
Characters: Chris Evans x OFC Elena
Word count: 4921
Warnings: None... absolute fluff
Tumblr media
“I’m boarding the plane now, Mikey,” I gasped, out of breath from running through the airport.
“Oversleep again, Lena?” He asked laughing on the other end.
“Actually, my Uber was late and then we hit traffic on the freeway, thank you very much!” I said, indignantly, making my way down the gangway and onto the plane.
“Ok, well safe flight, I’ll see you in a few hours.” he responded, “Love you, Sis!”
“Love you too, Mikey! Can’t wait to see you!” I was excited to see my big brother. He’d moved out to L.A. when I was 12 years old to pursue a career in acting. He’d made a name for himself on a soap opera, but had decided he preferred being behind the camera instead of in front of it.
I quickly located my seat and stowed my carry-on in the overhead compartment before dropping into the seat by the window. One perk of having Michael book my tickets was an upgrade to first class.
I had just finished another year teaching 2nd grade and was looking forward to spending time in California with my big brother. Due to budget cuts, we had ended up with overcrowded classrooms this past year (meaning I’d had a class of 30 second graders as opposed to the normal 20 I was used to!). Needless to say, I was exhausted and needed a break.
“Can I get you something to drink before we take off ma’am?” a flight attendant asked me, smiling.
“Do you have any tea?” I asked, smiling back at her, I hadn’t had time to stop for caffeine on my way to the airport and wasn’t firing on all cylinders yet. “Or at this point, I’d drink week-old coffee resembling mud.”
“We can’t have you drinking mud, I’d be happy to get you some tea” She replied laughing, “Any milk, sugar, or honey?”
“Just plain, please!” I replied, “You’re seriously a life-saver!”
“All part of my job title!” She said before collecting the pre-flight drink orders from other passengers settling into their seats.
“A fellow caffeine addict, huh?” A smooth, deep voice sounded next to me. It appeared as though my seat neighbor had arrived.
“Not even ashamed to admit to that! “In all fairness though, it is before 8 in the morning, and a Monday no less.” I smiled up at the newcomer, and almost swallowed my tongue in the process.
Chris freaking Evans was standing less than a foot away, placing his bag in the overhead compartment. He had on a gray Henley with the sleeves pushed up, jeans, and a NASA hat pulled down to help disguise his identity.  Pull it together Lena, do NOT fangirl on the poor guy!
“Both fair points!” He said taking his seat and turning slightly towards me. Even with the added room in first class, he was still insanely close to me. I could smell his cologne or aftershave, which didn’t help my already overloaded senses.  “I’m Chris, by the way.”
“Elena” I replied, smiling, “Everyone just calls me Lena though.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Lena” He replied with a smile of his own. Ugh, his azure blue eyes were seriously going to be my downfall. “What has you headed to L.A?”
“My brother lives there. I’m just going to visit for the summer. “A much-needed break from reality.” I replied, impressed that my inner fangirl wasn’t showing through...at least I hoped it wasn’t noticeable to Chris.
“I can definitely understand the need for a break.” He said, “The whole summer, huh? Must be a teacher?”
“Very good deduction skills!” I said laughing
“My older sister is a teacher as well, it was an easy deduction to make” He smirked, winking at me. “What do you teach?”
“I’m a second-grade teacher, although there are days I’d say ‘kitten wrangler’ would be a better job title.” I replied honestly. “Especially this past school year.”
“An entire room full of, what… 8-year-olds?” His eyes widened, “That’d be like a room full of my nephews… yeah, you need a break!”
“Yeah, 7 and 8-year-olds… 30 of them to be exact.” I replied, “I’m a kitten-wrangling ninja, what’s your superpower?”
He threw his head back at that and laughed, his left hand coming up to grab his chest. I smiled like an idiot at the fact that I was able to make him laugh hard enough to get the left boob grab.
“Super-human strength, quick healing abilities, and I look damn good for 100!” He replied, cheekily.
“Your tea Ma’am” the flight attendant interrupted, bringing my much-needed drink.
“Thank you so much!” I replied, taking the steaming cup.
“Can I get you anything, Mr. Evans?” she asked Chris, batting her eyelashes at him. I turned my head away to quickly stifle the snicker that was bubbling up.
“I’m good for now, thanks though.” He replied, then turning back towards me.
“Get that often, Mr. Evans. Or do you prefer Captain?” I asked as the flight attendant walked away.
“So, you do know who I am. I wasn’t too sure if you did or didn’t know.” He replied, laughing nervously.
“Yeah, figured that one out as soon as I looked up.” I replied gently, “But, honestly, I get that constant public adoration can get old, so I kept the fangirling to a minimum.”
“Fangirling, huh?” He asked, his smile getting bigger. “So, you’re a fan?”
“I may or may not be team Cap” I replied, my inner nerd shining through.  “I’m also team Thor though, so…”
“I’ll take it!” He replied laughing, “You said team Cap first, so that’s all I’m hearing.”
It was my turn to throw my head back laughing at his child-like response. It was nice to see the playful side of Chris, the true person that he is not the actor everyone knows.
“Welcome aboard flight 723 with non-stop service to LAX.” One of the flight attendants announced, “We will be pushing back and getting underway here in the next few minutes. At this time, we ask that you make sure that your seatbelts are fastened and return any seats and trays to the upright position. We are right on time, and should be landing at LAX at approximately 9:55 am local time.”
“Ugh, this is my least favorite part of flying. I wish I could just click my heels and arrive wherever I want to be.” I admitted to him in a nervous manner.
“Not a fan of flying?” He asked sympathetically, looking over at me.
“In general, flying is fine” I responded, trying to keep my breathing normal, “It’s taken off and landings I’m not exactly fond of.”
“Did you have a bad experience?” He asked out of curiosity.
“Nope” I replied, “But the way I see it, if something goes wrong at either takeoff or landing, you’re close enough to the ground still where chances are it’s going to hurt. When you’re in the air, you’re high enough up where if you crash, you’re just dead and won’t know how much the pain sucks.”
Chris was momentarily speechless as he processed my theory. I’m sure the theory is flawed but hey, fears are generally irrational right?
“Wow” he said finally, “I can’t say I’ve ever thought of it that way before.”
“I’ve never actually put that into words before, and I will admit that it does sound absurd.” I replied, “It sounded much less insane in my head.”
“No, not insane.” He quickly reassured me, “Probably has some validity to it...somewhere.”
“You’re way too nice!” I replied smiling, “Let’s pretend I didn’t disclose that information, and you don’t know the level of my nerdiness.”
“We’ve all got some nerdiness in us,” he replied with a flirty smile, “But I have to admit that the nerdiness is pretty damn adorable on you.”
I could feel my face heating up at the compliment. Holy shit, Chris Evans just called me adorable. My inner fangirl was screaming.
Before I was able to form a response, the plane started moving away from the gate. I could feel anxiety starting to boil in my gut. I gripped the armrest of my seat, knuckles turning white.
“Hey” Chris said softly, pulling my attention away from the window, “Keep breathing, Lena” His
right hand reached over and gently engulfed my hand in his own. I took a deep breath and forced myself to relax.
“I promise I’m not normally such a spaz.” I said apologetically, looking at him.
“None of that,” He said smiling, “We all have things that make us anxious. No judgement here.”
“So, are you heading back to L.A. for work or is that your home base?” I asked, trying to focus on something else.
“A little of both actually.” He replied, “I’m meeting with a director about a film I’m really interested in doing, but I do have a house in L.A. that I spend a lot of time at. Home though… that’s always Boston. Where is home for you?”
“I live in Providence, but I grew up in Newport.” I replied, “With the exception of my brother, the rest of my family is all still in Rhode Island.”
“Another New Englander!” He said smiling broadly, “It’s not Boston, but… you’re in the right region!”
“The only time I’m ever in Boston is when I’m catching a flight.” I admitted, “I always tell myself I’m going to drive up and spend some time there especially Salem, but something always comes up.”
“What!?” He exclaimed, “There is so much more to Boston than the AIRPORT!”
I laughed at the shock and dismay displayed on his face and in his voice.
“I’ll make a point to get there before I go back to work this fall.” I laughed, crossing my heart like the second graders I taught often did.
“I’ll hold you to that” He said, attempting to give me a stern look...but failing, as the laughter in his eyes gave him away. “What are you planning on doing while in L.A. this summer?”
“My brother actually lives in Malibu, so I will be spending as much time at the beach as possible.” I was very excited to spend time in the Pacific Ocean, surfing and hopefully diving at some point. The Atlantic was great, but definitely much colder. “I will also be buying an annual pass to Disneyland so I can go as often as I want and get my Disney fix. Once will definitely not be enough.”
“You’re a Disney fan too?” Chris asked, eyes growing wide, “You’re perfect you know that?”
“Far from it, I assure you.” I laughed, “Just ask my brothers.”
“Are you a Patriot’s fan?” he asked, turning his whole body towards me now. “Because seriously, if you are, I’m marrying you as soon as we get off this plane.”
I laughed and tucked a stray piece of brown hair back behind my ear nervously.
“I’m not really into football…” I replied smiling, “I’m more of a soccer fan. I enjoy baseball too.”
“I can accept that” He replied smiling widely, “I don’t know much about soccer, but what’s your favorite baseball team?”
“The Red Sox.” I replied, “My dad is a huge Sox fan, as are all my brothers. Mikey tries to play like he’s a Dodger fan now that he lives in L.A, but honestly that’s just to mess with my dad.”
“I was right, Lena.” Chris said teasingly, “You're legitimately perfect.”
“Even if I’m not a football fan?” I laughed. Butterflies were swarming in my belly for a whole new reason now. My fear of taking off, long forgotten. I glanced quickly out the window to realize we were in the air. Chris had kept me occupied to ease my anxiety during takeoff.  “Well played, Evans.” I said, looking back over at him. He shrugged and gave me a boyish smile.
“Sometimes it helps to keep the mind busy when you’re anxious so that you aren’t focused on what is causing the anxiety.” He replied, seemingly from experience.
“Thank you” I replied simply. I wasn’t sure what else to say.
“So, what’s your favorite ride at Disney?” He asked, changing topics.
“Is it acceptable to say that I love them all?” I asked him hopefully. Seriously, how do you choose just one ride?
“Nope. You got to pick one,” he said, shaking his head, “No cop out answers.”
“Ok, well I adore Space Mountain, but I also love The Matterhorn. The Haunted Mansion though is also a favorite…” I replied, “Best I can do is Top 3 favorites.”
“Fair enough, I suppose,” He conceded, “Good choices too. You went with the classics.”
“What are your favorite rides?” I asked, “And no ‘cop out’ answers either.”
“Space Mountain.” He said without hesitation. “That’s the one I could ride all day.”
“Favorite Disney movie?” I asked him.
“Of all time? Dumbo” he replied, “But I honestly love all the Classic Disney movies, and the newer ones too. What’s yours?”
“All-time favorite… Pinocchio.” I replied thoughtfully. “I adore Jiminy Cricket. But I also wore out two copies of the Oliver and Company movie.”
“I love Oliver and Company!” He exclaimed, “My dog, Dodger, is named after the Dodger in that movie!”
“It’s a great movie.” I agreed, “Where’s Dodger now?”
“He’s back in Boston with my mom and sister.” he said, a sad smile on his face. It was obvious he loved his dog. I’d read and watched interviews with him, whenever asked about his dog he lit up like a kid at Christmas.
“Are you going to be in L.A for a long time?” I asked
“Depends on my meeting with the director, I guess.” He replied, “If it goes well, I’ll bring Dodge out and we’ll stay out here until filming ends. I don’t have anything else on the schedule at the moment. Just finished my contract with Marvel.”
“It’s got to be a good feeling to have the freedom to just relax and pick what you want to work on.” I said, “I won’t lie though, I’m heartbroken you won’t be Captain American anymore.”
“It was hard to walk away after the last day on set, but it was definitely time. I was burning out.” he said honestly, “I feel like I went out on the right note though.”
“I’ll admit that I literally ugly cried in the theater during Endgame.” I confided in him, “Complete with crocodile tears, blotchy eyes...the whole nine yards. You broke my heart into a million tiny pieces.”
“But it’s not like Cap died!” he reasoned, “He just finally got the chance to live out the life he wanted!”
“Although that part did make me teary, the part that broke me was watching Cap get his heart broken when Natasha and Tony died.” I explained, “The scene where you’re sitting there and the tears are falling… ugh.”
“If it helps, it was extremely difficult for us all to make it through that film.” He said, “We were all emotionally attached to the characters.”
“That does make me feel better, thanks.” I replied.
The rest of the flight was spent talking about anything and everything. I was so caught up in the
conversation that I never even heard them announce we were beginning our descent into L.A., so when the plane touched down and started to taxi up to the terminal gate, I was shocked.
“Again, well played Mr. Evans” I laughed looking back over to Chris. “Thank you”
“I really enjoyed this flight, Lena.” He said smiling, “I’m actually kind of sad we’ve landed.”
“I can honestly say, this is the best flight I’ve ever had.” I admitted, a blush spreading over my neck and face. “I wouldn’t have been sad if it had been longer.”
The plane had taxied into the designated gate and came to a stop. Around us people were rushing to gather up their belongings.
“As crazy as this sounds, I’d really like to see you again.” Chris said, looking anxious for the first time since he’d introduced himself. It was as though he doubted, you’d want to see him again, which made absolutely zero sense!
“It doesn’t sound crazy, Chris” I reassured him softly. “I would like to see you again too.”
“Put your number in my phone and then I’ll text you so you have mine.” He said handing me his phone.
I quickly typed my number into his phone before handing it back to him. He finished saving the contact info and then sent a text to me. I heard my phone’s notification ping, alerting me to a new message. It was if the ping of my phone set off a swarm of butterflies in my belly. The anxiety from earlier in the flight was back, but for a whole new reason.
I opened up the message from Chris and quickly saved his contact info. Chris grabbed his bag down out of the overhead compartment then grabbed mine down and handed it over to me.
“I’m assuming since you’re here for a while, you’ve got more luggage checked” He laughed,
“Either that, or you travel extremely light.”
“Honestly, I probably over packed” I laughed, rolling my eyes at myself. “I never know what I’ll need or want when traveling so I just throw it all into the luggage and go with it.”
“That’s one way to do it, I suppose.” He winked at me, “If you don’t mind, I’ll walk with you that way.  I’m getting picked up at arrivals anyway.”
“I don’t mind at all.” I replied, “My brother is supposed to be picking me up. I’m guessing he’ll be at arrivals too.”
We walked towards baggage claim, making our way through the large crowds at LAX. I noticed
Chris kept hat down low over his eyes, doing his best to blend in and not be recognized. He stayed close to me, trying to avoid being separated.
We arrived at baggage claim right as the bags were starting to appear on the conveyor belt.
Luckily, my bag came around quickly. I grabbed it off the belt and turned around, almost running straight into Chris. I hadn’t realized he was so close.
“Sorry!” he said, a boyish grin on his face, as he steadied me, “I didn’t want to lose you in the crowd.”
“No worries” I said breathily, enjoying the close proximity to him. “I think this is the fastest my bag has ever gotten off the plane. Thankfully, it wasn’t lost this time!”
“That’s happened before?” His eyebrows shot up in shock, “That must have sucked!”
“It did” I agreed, “I was in Germany too, which made it even worse. I was with a student group and we weren’t staying in one spot, so it was quite the production getting my stuff to me!”
“Well at least had it happened here, you’d have been stationary” He laughed, “How long did it take to get reunited with your luggage?”
“It took 3 days for it to catch up with us.” I said, “Thankfully, I had enough in my carry on that I was able to survive the separation.”
“LENA!” I heard a familiar voice yell. I quickly looked up and around for the source of the voice to find my sister in law, holding a neon green sign with my name in pink sparkles. I laughed, shaking my head at her.
“Talia!” I giggled heading over to her and hugging her. I adored my sister in law, in fact, she was probably my favorite. “Was the sign necessary?”
“Of course, it was!” she replied laughing, “I’d hate to be accused of being basic!”
“Extra… yes” I laughed, “Never basic.”
“I see you’ve made a friend already” She said, glancing over to where Chris was standing, his eyes dancing with laughter at the exchange.
“Talia, this is Chris.” I said making the introduction. I figured she had already figured out exactly who he was. “Chris, my sister in law, Talia.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you Chris” She said smiling brightly. Talia is also a huge Marvel fan, but she’s more team Iron Man/ RDJ. Being married to my brother, she was used to being around celebrities and has perfected the art of remaining cool. I had a feeling I needed to take a page from her book this summer if I was going to survive in my brother’s world.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Talia.” Chris responded warmly.
“Ok, let’s get out of here!” Talia exclaimed, “Michael gave me strict orders to bring you straight to him before going to the house. I think he missed his baby sister.”
“I’ve definitely missed him too” I said, excited to see him.
We all headed out of the airport and into the balmy California weather. I smiled looking around at the palm trees and feeling thesunshine beat on my face. It was going to be a great summer!
Straight ahead of us was a pick up line filled with limos, black SUVs, and sedans along with their drivers holding signs with the people they were looking for.
“There’s my ride,” Chris said, seeing his name in the line. He wrapped me in a quick hug before pulling back and smiling. “I’ll text you later Lena and we can make plans to get together.”
“Sounds great!” I beamed, trying to remember how to breathe. Chris Evans just hugged me!
Talia and I quickly made our way across the pickup lanes and headed towards the parking garage attached to the airport.
“Already making friends with Hollywood Heartthrobs before even landing in L.A., huh?” Talia joked as I threw my luggage into the back of her black Land Rover.
“He’s super sweet, Lia!” I gushed, “He kept me occupied the entire flight, especially during takeoff and landing, so I wouldn’t freak out. We talked about everything, and he never made me feel like a major dork.”
“Michael has mentioned several times that he’s very down to earth and a genuinely nice person.” She revealed, “He’s actually meeting with Chris this week about a part in the film he’s directing.”
“Ohmygod!” I exclaimed, “THAT’S the movie he was talking about? He said he was in town to meet with a director but never said what the film was or which director. What is the flipping’ odds he’d be meeting with my brother?”
“Hollywood is actually not that big” Talia said laughing, “Everyone is essentially connected to someone through a mutual friend. Not that shocking he’d know Michael. I’m guessing Chris didn’t put it together?”
“My last name never came up honestly” I replied, “Well, I guess this means I’m guaranteed to see him again!”
Being that it was past rush hour, it didn’t take too long to get from the airport to the studio lot where Michael was preparing for his next film. Talia found a parking spot close to a large building that I assumed contained a sound stage.
“Alright, he’s inside meeting with a few set designers. He said to come straight in when we got
here.” Talia said getting out of the vehicle.
We walked into the building, which currently looks like a cross between an airplane hangar and a warehouse.
“There’s my Little-Bit!” Michael said jogging over towards us. He quickly scooped me up into a hug, lifting me off the ground and spinning me around. “I’ve missed your kiddo!”
“I’ve missed you too, Mikey!” I said laughing, “I hate that we live on opposite sides of the country now!”
“I know, Kiddo.” He said setting me back on my feet and taking a step back, “You know, there are plenty of schools out here you can teach at.”
“Don’t tempt me!” I joked, “We just had one of the worst winters in over a decade this year… the temptation to leave it all behind is strong.”
“I know you probably want to get settled and freshen up from your trip, but I couldn’t wait to see you” He said, “I have a few more meetings but should be out of here by early afternoon, so we can make plans to go out somewhere for dinner tonight.”
“Perfect, I am in desperate need of shower and clean clothes.” I replied, “Other than that, my social calendar is wide open.”
“For now, at least.” Talia teased, bumping into me and smirking. “I doubt it stays that way.”
“Yeah, I’m totally on the prowl to fill my calendar” I rolled my eyes, trying to play her comment off so Michael wouldn’t ask questions.
“That’ll be hard to do if you spend all summer at Disney, Little-Bit.” Michael teased, “Although, I hear Goofy is still single.”
“Oh wow, all have jokes today.” I laughed, turning towards Talia “On that note, I’m ready to leave now.”
“OK, you’re chariot awaits milady!” She responded, “I’ll see you at home, baby.”
“Drive safe, stay out of trouble.” He said, “Love you both.”
________________________________
I woke the next morning to my cell phone alerting me to a new message. I sat up and grabbed my phone. I was shocked that I’d managed to sleep past nine. I leaned back against the queen-sized headboard and opened up my text messages.
C: 7:35AM Hey Lena, I’ve got a meeting this morning about that project I mentioned but would
really love to see get together later if you’re available. Maybe get some coffee, or another beverage?
C: 8:00 AM Ok, that sounded really lame. Let me try again. Lena, would you like to go out for a drink later?
L: 9:04 AM Hi! Sorry, I just woke up! You didn’t sound lame at all. I’d love to get coffee...or another beverage with you later! I don’t think I have anything going on today. Let me track down my brother to make sure he didn’t plan anything.
I pushed the covers back and got out of bed, my bare feet sinking into the plush carpet in the guest bedroom I was staying in. I pulled my long brown hair up into a messy knot on top of my head, deciding to deal with it later, and headed downstairs in search of Michael or Talia to see what the plans for the day were.
Once I reached the bottom of the stairs, I could hear voices on the back patio that overlooked the beach. I detoured to the kitchen first to grab a bottle of water from the fridge before heading out to the patio.
I opened the French doors and stepped out onto the cool bricks, before stopping dead in my tracks like a deer caught in headlights.
“Morning, Little Bit!” Michael said cheerfully, oblivious to my panic. “This is Chris, I’m trying to recruit him for my current project.”
“We actually met on the plane yesterday,” Chris said, winking at me with a smirk, “Morning, Lena. Love your shirt.”
I quickly glanced down, forgetting what I was wearing, and realized I still had on my old Red Sox tank and a pair or navy-blue sleep shorts.
“Thanks” I laughed nervously, “Good Morning.”
“Grab a seat Lena and join us for breakfast” Michael offered, “Lia had to meet with a client this morning, but will be back later.”
I sat down, next to Michael, which put me directly across from where Chris was sitting. I grabbed some grapes from the fruit bowl and placed them on the plate in front of me. Michael passed a platter of bacon and toast, so I added some of that to my plate as well.
“Lia made sure to make some of the bacon extra crispy for you too” Michael said shaking his
head, “although by that point it’s like eating straight bacon bits.”
“I’ll only eat it when it’s crispy because I can’t stand the idea that I’m gnawing on pig fat.” I replied, sticking my tongue out at him. “You’re lucky I’m even eating pork again.”
“There was a time you didn’t eat pork?” Chris asked, his eyebrow cocked.
“I had to dissect a pig in my honors biology class sophomore year.” I replied, “my lab partner was a little over zealous, and after a week of picking at a pig carcass, I couldn’t bring myself to eat pork anymore.”
“She wouldn’t eat any meat for about a month.” Michael added smiling at me.
“What made you decide to start eating meat again?” Chris asked curiously.
“I missed cheeseburgers” I shrugged, “Being a vegetarian wasn’t working for me, so I decided to be a porketarian instead.”
Chris laughed, shaking his head, “How long did you go without eating pork?”
“I just started eating it again about a year ago.” I admitted. “So, about 20 years.”
“That’s a long time.” he said looking shocked, “What made you decide to eat it again?”
“She missed bacon” Michael replied.
“Pretty much” I agreed. “I missed BLTs… and turkey bacon wasn’t the same.”
“Fair enough” Chris said.
“So, what’s on your agenda today Mickey?” I asked my brother, steering the conversation away from me.
“I have a couple of meetings at the studio but I should be wrapped up by late afternoon, I was planning on grabbing steaks on the way home so we can throw them on the grill tonight.” He replied, “What are your plans for today?”
“I was thinking of going to grab coffee, or a beverage of some kind today” I smirked at Chris.

Tiny Haven Gazette #3
In which I drop the gazette format because it takes an ungodly amount of time and nobody cares. 🎉
My house gets a first floor, and coincidentally, my storage doubles, which is a relief. That should free me from spending 30mn every day desperately trying to figure out what to part with for at least a month.
Tumblr media
So much space!
And now that it’s been upgraded, I get more customization options and can change the outside of my house!
Tumblr media
¨🦄¨
By sheer dumb luck, I finally figure out how to get money trees!!!! I can’t believe it took me so long (although I’m very happy I never looked the answer up online). I should have known there was something up with the glowing golden hole that appeared whenever you dug up some money, that thing was clearly magic!
Tumblr media
My pockets were full, so I had no choice but to bury back the money bag I’d just dug out, and this happened. Honestly considering how often I walk around with full pockets I’m astounded this didn’t happen sooner.
Tumblr media
So now I have a little money tree orchard. Next experience: does the money tree give you MORE money if you plant a bigger money bag? Tried it this morning, will get an answer in a few days.
¨🦄¨
Raiiiiinbow!
Tumblr media
That’s it. There’s no story to go with it, but it’s the first rainbow I’ve seen in the game!
¨🦄¨
I can’t stop thinking about that sweet little cow I saw on @astorytotellyourfriends ‘s island last week, so I decide to build the last house in the hopes of finding her on an island and inviting her over.
In the process, I realize I could have built myself a beach house all along.
Tumblr media
Damnit!
To my horror, however, the very next morning, the house has been sold to a stranger!
Thankfully, my new neighbour, while not being Norma, is just as sweet.
Tumblr media
I covet her living room SO BADLY. And also I kinda wanna eat her. Why would you design a rhinoceros to look like a cake?! She must get nightmares where people run after her, trying to bite off her strawberry horn.
¨🦄¨
Shortly after, and as a result of me ignoring him completely for a few days, Phebus FINALLY decides to leave the island.
Tumblr media
I actually took a chance when I decided to talk to him, considering that’s the way he always looks.
Tumblr media
“Good luck with the neighbours, their stories and their problems... you’re going to need a good dose of patience!”
That shouldn’t be a problem because, unlike you, I actually like people!
And because I like people, of course, joke’s on me, because I feel super sad to see him leave. 🙄
¨🦄¨
Following his departure, I start buying mystery island tickets like a crazy person, hoping to bump into Norma, but so far, no luck.
Tumblr media
Why did I meet so many chickens?!
It’s the second day Phebus’s old house is on sale and I’m sure it’ll get sold to a random NPC any second now. The stress is intense!
¨🦄¨
I don’t know what’s up with them but everyone on the island keeps asking me if they should change their catchphrases! After the tenth time, I finally give in with Lili, assuming she’ll just come up with a new one on her own, but then am faced with a horrible screen that is asking ME to come up with something on the spot!
Tumblr media
Have I mentioned how much I love it when she makes that face?
Tumblr media
It took me ten minutes and some internet research to come up with this. This is too big of a responsibility!!
Tumblr media
At least she was happy about it.
I’ve gone back to refusing to help the others, though. At least not until I can come up with proper catchphrases for them!
¨🦄¨
For the very first time, I get asked to play postman for my villagers. See, Nacer’s been bonding with Kali (no wonder, since they’re both jocks), but he was too shy to give him a present himself.
Tumblr media
“Kali has helped me so much, I picked up a present for him. But I’m too shy to give it to him myself...”
Feeling like cupid, I hurry to Kali’s house. 👼🏹💘
Tumblr media
“A frog costume! Oh la la!”
I have to admit that wasn’t the kind of gift I’d been expecting considering how much they both love sports, but ok!
Tumblr media
“Did Kali say something about the gift?”
That was super cute, I hope I’ll get more requests like it!
¨🦄¨
In the span of one week I must have learnt about 20 new mimics, which, honestly, I find baffling. Most of them are just sliiiiight variations, it’s ridiculous. In the game I used to work on we ended up with about 50 expressions per character, but that was because they needed to express a wide range of emotions in very subtle ways. You don’t need that for cute island critters, especially when emoting is such a slow process in the first place!
¨🦄¨
Justine visits again one night, which gets everyone on the island talking.
Tumblr media
“Since we have a visitor, I’ve baked some cakes. I hope she’ll like them...”
Tumblr media
“I absolutely MUST tell her ‘hi’ before she leaves!”
Tumblr media
“No, don’t mind me, you’ve got a visitor! Focus on being a good hostess!”
I like their reactions so much I spend more time speaking with my islanders than my visitors whenever I have one, haha.
Also, I love the smoke trails in the sky whenever a plane leaves. That small connection to a bigger world is very comforting.
Tumblr media
¨🦄¨
Abraham, true to himself, is adorable.
Tumblr media
“Good evening, sweets! Grum grom grom... My tummy also says good evening!”
🥰
Later we play to a little game with freakishly accurate results.
Tumblr media
“Let’s play! Tell me your favourite color, and I will tell you what food you are.”
Tumblr media
“You chose orange, which means you’re easy to live with, but you can also sometimes feel lonely.”
In the end, he said I was an onion. Layers, y’see.
¨🦄¨
I also finally figure out how to eavesdrop on people’s conversations, and get treated to many a story.
Tumblr media
Lili : I just read my horoscope... You’re not gonna believe it! It’s sick!
Phebus : What am I supposed to not believe, exactly? The horoscope, or the fact that you managed to read it through? You know what, just tell me what it said, let’s get this over with.
Lili : Listen to this... “Your travels will bring good surprises.” Isn’t that sick?! Especially for me, because I love good surprises!
Phebus : Um... I guess? I mean, I don’t know. How did that make you sick? I’m confused.
Lili : Nah, just wait! After that, I went shopping, and it was the spring sales! Get that, I got a sweet little dress on sale! I was so happy I thought I was going to pass out!
Phebus : What?! Don’t kid with that! D’you need me to call for help?
Lili (totally ignoring him) : So anyway I put on my new dress and went for a walk. And that’s when it started raining big time, and I got drenched... Why didn’t my horoscope warn me about that?!
Phebus : I don’t know... have you tried reading the weather column instead?
¨🦄¨
I catch Vanessa and Maëlle talking about a movie they both watched... except they both remember it very differently...
Tumblr media
Maëlle : Oh, Vanessa, thanks for lending me that movie, I loved it! The costumes were gorgeous... I want the leading lady’s straw hat!
Vanessa : And that chase in hydro planes! Pfiiiiiiiouuu, ppfffz, ka-BOUM! That was awesome sauce!
Maëlle : And that dress with golden trimmings that she wears at the picnic... that was fine art!
Vanessa : And what about the fight against the giant robot? When he punches a hole in the planet? Whazaam!
Maëlle : Yes! He really stole the scene with his diamond plates... It must have cost a fortune! ... ... Wait, did you say he punched a hole in a planet? Was that before or after the ball?
😂
¨🦄¨
Later, I find the same two talking about Maëlle’s insect infestation problem (probably caused by all the sweets she keeps in her house, just saying). When she asks me what I would do, I tell her I’d just move out, which gets me a VERY judgmental look from Vanessa.
Tumblr media
“How do you manage to get rid of them?”
Vanessa’s solution, in the end, is for Maëlle to sell her house to “an insect-loving weirdo”. I wish I knew if that was a dig at Abraham or if it’s just a coincidence.
Tumblr media
“Bah, that can’t be impossible. You just need a real weirdo who thinks insects aren’t so bad!”
¨🦄¨
Lili and Raymond get into a big argument about Lili’s cooking skills...
Tumblr media
Raymond : By the way, Lili, I haven’t thanked you for lunch the other day! It was very good!
Lili : “Very good”? Seriously, don’t you have something even more corny? Nobody says that anymore! Don’t you mean it was delicious? Or maybe extremely refined? Or maybe super exquisite?
Raymond : Oh! You’re right, I’m sorry. Um, it was... delectable... succulent... A concentrate of sheer deliciousness!
Lili : And?
Raymond : And... every bite sent my taste buds into a transcendental ecstasy?
Lili : Oh! Is that a question or a statement, Raymond?
Raymond : A statement, of course! Pff... All that to describe a stupid sole meunière...
Lili : Don’t tell me you’ve just called my sole meunière, my mother’s own recipe!, “stupid”?!
I’m still amazed that they parted in good terms, I thought for sure Lili would keep on fuming
¨🦄¨
After trying to get my first residents to spruce up their apartments, with mitigating results...
Tumblr media
I mean, the ball, jars and punching sack are all gifts of mine, so that’s cool he’s got them all out at the same time, but that’s still a sad little barren house.
I finally look it up online and discover their houses are actually not supposed to be like this at all! Turns out poor Nacer, Vanessa, Abraham, Renée and Lili are all stuck with generic houses because they got to my island too soon!
This is what Renée’s house should look like!
Tumblr media
So I’ve decided to try and gift them all their true houses’ furniture, little by little. I know they can’t change their wallpapers or floors, but hopefully if I get them the right couches, beds, etc, they’ll display them all. 🤞

Have you today?
Looked in a mirror? Not on purpose. We just have several mirrors in the house that I unavoidably pass by and look at.
Watered a plant? Not today, but my dad has asked me to do it a couple of times in the last week.
Worn denim? I haven’t worn outside clothes in almost a monthhhhh. And that includes denim.
Washed your hair? Technically yes. I took a shower at around 1 AM? before heading to bed.
Been in pain? Kind of. My left eye has been irritating me almost every night/morning since the year started; sometimes it gets incredibly swollen, sometimes it just feels like something is stuck in my eyelid. Either way it’s always uncomfortable and painful.
Had a nap? Haha, not yet. But since the lockdown started I’ve been having an afternoon siesta everyday. Brushed your teeth? Yeah, it came along with the ^ above 1 AM shower. Kissed someone? I haven’t been able to kiss my girlfriend in almost three weeks now and I’m miiiiiserable.  Used a cheese grater? Nah, I haven’t used one in a while.
Eaten something sweet? Not yet. I might eat a few pieces of chocnut later though. Spoken to a stranger? Not today, but we did have a village guard knock on our door earlier to give my dad a quarantine pass – it’s to confirm that he’ll be the only one in the family allowed to leave the house in case we need to go to the groceries or something. I peeked by the front door to listen to the interaction, but I didn’t speak with the guard myself. Dropped something? Sure. My bottle of eye drops. Felt upset in some way? You can say that. There’s a new trend on Facebook where groups are created so certain universities can just trashtalk one another as a joke. It was funny at first but there are some posts that have gone too far, personal, or both, and it obviously hasn’t been good for my mental health lol. Drank coffee? Not yet today. I usually have it in the evening. Walked for more than thirty minutes? I also haven’t walked much in three weeks. That’s kinda what’s supposed to happen when your entire city is put on lockdown. Signed up for something? No. I’ve logged in to certain sites, though. Travelled in a car? I also haven’t been in a car in the last couple of weeks. I was able to ride with my dad the night before they imposed the lockdown – we were visiting my grandpa in the columbary because it would’ve been his 80th birthday that day. Opened a can? Nope. Thought about doing something crazy? At the back of my head I always think of driving up to see Gab because I miss her a lot, but it just remains a crazy thought in my head. Listened to a new song? Yeah. I have a couple of saved playlists and I don’t know like 94% of the songs in both of them, so I’m always listening to a new song everyday. Written in a notebook? I haven’t. I’ve written on a piece of paper, though. Fed an animal? Yup, my dog needs his breakfast. Checked your emails? LOL NOPE, and I don’t plan to check them any time soon. Told someone you love them? Yeah, before we both turned in at like 3 AM lol. Made a phone call? Yeah I also called my girlfriend earlier.
Have you in the last week?
Update: I skipped this survey the whole day and now it’s 10:30 in the evening, and I’ve already done a bunch of stuff I said no ^ to earlier lmao but am too lazy to change. Let’s gooooooo
Travelled on a bus? Nah. The bus personally isn’t my main mode of transpo and I only get to ride them when I’m in a group and there’s no choice but to ride a bus, like for field trips or for group itineraries during vacations.
Washed your face? Yeah. I did this today because my face was feeling annoyingly oily. Put a face mask on for the first time in a long time.
Used a blender? No. I don’t think we even have a blender at home, cos no one ever makes stuff that needs to be blended.
Received a phone call? Sure. Gab and I called several times in the last week, and my grandma has also called from time to time to check up on us because the lockdown has kept us from seeing her regularly.
Talked to someone you dislike? I...don’t think so. If I did I’d definitely talk to Gabie about it, and I haven’t done that with her haha.
Consumed alcohol? Ugh, bleck. Yeah. I wanted to get buzzed last week and a bottle of Jack Daniel’s is the only thing we have in the house so I had a small sip and just... disgusting. Whiskey is just not my thing, so never again.
Eaten pasta? Spot on. We had spaghetti for dinner tonight.
Planned for an event? There is no event to plan, and it’ll stay like this for the next 3-4 months probs.
Asked someone for a favour? Sure, I asked Gab to be the one to write the write-up that’s going to be on my college yearbook.
Watched something funny? I’ve been watching tons of these to fight off boredom during the break.
Trimmed your nails? Yep, they were getting long and uncomfortable so I got rid of them.
Browsed Reddit? Also yep. School kept me busy for a couple of months and I wasn’t able to use Reddit then because I’d usually pass out by evening. But right now I have more than enough time to browse it, so I’ve been doing some catching up.
Talked to yourself? I guess? Not as much as before the lockdown though, because I’ve already been usually by myself throughout this break, and don’t feel the ~need to talk to myself.
Purchased tickets for something? Nah. They cancelled almost all future events up until May or June...there’s no tickets to be bought at all to begin with.
Felt like you were annoying someone? Meh, it happens every now and then.
Cleaned a toilet? I’ve never done this at all.
Reminisced about the past? LMAO yeah. Someone created a Facebook group that lets alumni from my high school just shit-talk the school and bring back (and reveal) old drama, scandals, and controversies. It’s hilarious, it hasn’t pissed me off, and past students exposing teachers who turned out to be trash and/or perverts is so satisfying.
Used headphones? I haven’t had headphones in a while.
Laughed with a friend? Yeah, but just virtually. I haven’t heard most of my friends’ voices in a while.
Cooked dinner and then didn't feel hungry? Nah. I HAVE helped my dad make dinner a few times this week, which is like huge baby steps for me in learning how to cook haha.
Written a list? I don’t think I have in the last week.
Played an instrument? Nope. Felt jealous or envious? It happens. Ignored a text message on purpose? Lol yeah I guess. There were times I got fed up with Gab being such a slow replier that when she replies, I stopped wanting to open my inbox. Congratulated someone? I just did! UP’s med school results were released a few hours ago and I congratulated my friend Michelle for passing. Her decision was super clutch – she initially passed med school as early as high school but she declined it so she can take journalism instead, because it’s what she thought she liked at the time. Four years into the course and she realizes she hated it, so she made the really clutch decision to review for med school exams and she ended up passing every single one she took, UP being the icing on the cake. Honestly I wish I had balls like her.
Have you in the last month?
Made a piece of art? I don’t think so.
Rewatched one of your favourite tv shows or movies? I rewatch Friends at least once or twice a month, so ya got me there.
Called a plumber? We haven’t needed to do this.
Been to a see a doctor? Yup, an optometrist. Something’s been going on with my left eye for a while, so I went in to have a checkup a couple of weeks ago.
Finished a book? I did :o I had to read an entire book to make an essay for my business news class. It’s an investigative piece on the fast food industry, which I honestly dig, so I didn’t have a hard time reading and finishing it.
Had a crush on someone? Sure.
Travelled on a train? Definitely haven’t done this at all, except for that one time three years ago when I had to do it with Jum to go to the House of Representatives in Manila.
Worn heels? I don’t think I did, no. Been to a friend's house? Yeah, I was at Gabie’s a couple times before the lockdown started. Shared a bed with someone? ^ Just her. Been to see a movie at the cinema? Haven’t been to since Knives Out last December. Paid attention to celebrity drama? Nah. High school drama though, I’ve been all over that the last couple of days lmao. Felt anxious? I feel it at least once a day. Taken an elevator? Sure. Given someone the cold shoulder? Only when I don’t reply to Gab because she takes too long to reply, lol yeah. It doesn’t last too long though; it’s just a playful tantrum thing. Purchased a new book/game/movie? Nah, I think I find most of my content on YouTube/Netflix anyway. Applied for a job? Hahahahahahahahahahhaha not yet don’t rush me. Used a printer? I don’t think so. Had lunch in a park? But do we have parks at all? Lmaooooooooo Gotten a manicure or pedicure? Definitely not into those. Made an appointment? Ish? If the one with the optometrist counts. Had a blood test done? Not since 2010. Suffered from a major bruise? Lol dude I haven’t moved a lot in the last few weeks, there’s absolutely no reason for me to get a bruise. Researched a topic in-depth? Yes. I am in school, after all.
Have you in the last year?
Been to the beach? Yep, but it’s been a literal year and not less than, and I am haaaaaardcore missing the beach. No idea when I’ll be coming back.
Visited someone in the hospital? No and I hope I won’t have to for now, given what’s been going on.
Played pinball? Ooh I just did earlier this month! Gab and I went to BGC for a whole night of partying, and when everyone went home we stayed so we can go bar-hopping, and there’s a place called Barcade that’s...well, you get the name. ANYWAY they had sooo many vintage arcade games and a couple of pinball machines, and we didn’t waste time playing each of them. It was sooooo fun.
Travelled on a plane? A couple of times.
Worn a costume? I was Dora for Halloween, so yup.
Been thrift shopping? I don’t...think so?
Thought about getting pregnant or got pregnant? Hell no.
Made a big life decision? Not really. Hasn’t everyone’s lives been put on hold because of this stupid virus?
Changed a lightbulb? Never had at all, really.
Framed something and put it on your wall? Nah. I’m not really that kind of person.
Been stargazing? I’ve been doing this a lot recently cos I’ve been staying at the rooftop at night more often. And with everyone at home, the light pollution has been clearing up and the stars have been so much easier to see.
Made a new friend? If the new applicants for our org count, then yes.
Added to a collection? I don’t have any.
Been to the dentist? Oh yeah. I had a really bad toothache throughout December but the dentist took it all away ahhdkjfhdjsfhsf I’m so grateful lmao.
Broken up with someone? Nope.
Held a baby? That’s a bigger nope.
Created a budget? Nah lmao I would never be able to follow it.
Confessed feelings for someone? Already did.
Had surgery of any kind? Nope and I hope I’ll never need one.
Quit a job? Never had a job,
Been in a car accident? NO thank god hahahahahahaha Purchased something worth over a grand? Yep, one of my Christmas gifts for Gabie was well around two grand. Pesos though, so that’s like roughly $40. Been on vacation at least 500km/300mi from home? Yeah, we always do at least one of these when my dad’s home. Applied for an academic course? Does enrolling count? I’m still in college lmao. Had your photo taken by a professional? I had my grad shoot taken last January.

Read on AO3
[Log of Text Messages from Maki Harukawa’s Cellular Device]
From: Me
Did you touch down at Haneda yet?
From: Principal Emo
Yeah
A while ago actually
I’m actually on the train home right now
Which I guess is a little silly considering I’m coming right back over tomorrow
But also I definitely need to sleep in my own bed at least once before meeting people Kaito works with
From: Me
Ugh
Meeting people
From: Principal Emo
Yeah
Especially meeting people with Kaito “What’s your favorite blood type?” Momota
From: Me
Hey that’s my boyfriend you’re talking about
And your description is completely accurate, continue
From: Principal Emo
Ugh sorry that was mean
I’m mean today and I don’t like it
I need coffee :(
From: Me
Or, you know
A decent night’s sleep
From: Principal Emo
Too hard
From: Me
Oh, you’re right, taking care of yourself is too hard
Back to relentlessly roasting Kaito it is
From: Principal Emo
What no
I’m not roasting him
I’m just
Trying not to be mad at him because the only reason I have to be mad at him is that I’m going to miss him while he’s on his mission and I don’t understand why he didn’t tell me he was going on the mission soon enough that I had time to ease into missing him and if I’m just angry at him about that then I’ll be missing him when he’s here so I should try and not be angry at him so that I don’t let time with him go to waste while he’s not in space yet
That makes sense right?
From: Me
I mean feel about it how you wanna feel
But I’d just be mad at him if I were you
From: Principal Emo
:(
From: Me
*>:(
From: Principal Emo
*<:(
From: Me
What is that
A party hat?
From: Principal Emo
No its like
Concerned eyebrows
From: Me
What are you concerned about?
From: Principal Emo
Right now? Or in general?
Because right now I’m worried that people on the train are giving me weird looks because my suitcase is taking up too much space
But like in general I fear that I am somehow secretly inadequate according to an unclear set of standards that only exist in my own mind
From: Me
Cool
Well not cool actually
You want me to give you a ride to the open house so that you don’t have to take the train again tomorrow
From: Principal Emo
I would actually very much appreciate that
I know that the lines under the Towa bridges have the newest trains and the most up to date security and all
But also there’s just a lot of people on trains and places to hide knives one would use for a train stabbing and even thought that’s super unreasonable maybe it’s not that unreasonable because we have a lot of stabbings in proportion to other countries but also we have a low homicide rate
From: Me
Ah so you don’t just want to carpool for my charming company
From: Principal Emo
If you’re trying to be sarcastic let me just say your company is genuinely more charming than the motley crew of characters one would expect on the Towa to Tanegashima line at ten in the morning
From: Me
Even though my car has the same amount of places to hide knives?
From: Principal Emo
Yeah but those knives are for your purposes and not train stabbings
From: Me
My purposes?
From: Principal Emo
You know what I mean
From: Me
Yeah I do
Also
While I do not want to validate your fear of train stabbings via the association of an abrupt subject change
I’ve been meaning to say for a while that I am sorry that I don’t trust your detective work more often
Well I don’t know about more often
What I mean is
I think that you are a good detective
Even when you say stuff that obviously sounds stupid
And if I implied a different stance through my words or actions
Then I regret those words and/or actions
From: Principal Emo
What?
Oh are you talking about what you told me before I went to Paris
From: Me
Yeah
I mean I don’t think I’m in the wrong when I say clowns stealing toilets from the louvre is a stupid premise for a crime
But I guess criminals are stupider than popular media and common sense would lead me to believe
And I think I should have believed in you more
But also I think I was right that you need a vacation and you haven’t taken one yet and I think that’s not great for you either
From: Principal Emo
Oh um
I guess not?
From: Me
And Kaito told me you’re not allowed to chase the clowns anymore
So maybe you should take a break now
From: Principal Emo
Well
I feel like in a way following the DICE case was a break?
Because I essentially didn’t get any cases done the whole time I was working it
Which means I’ll have catching up to do when I get back to the office
From: Me
Not if I kill you first
From: Principal Emo
Sorry, we’ll have to fit that in later
If you kill me then I’ll be even more behind
From: Me
Your eyeballs better be behind your eyelids at 8pm today or else I’m taking them
From: Principal Emo
Taking what?
From: Me
Your eyeballs
From: Principal Emo
No I need those
From: Me
Then hide them because I’m coming for you
From: Principal Emo
Okay, maybe I’ll sleep a little tonight
From: Me
You better still be sleeping when I get to your house
I’ll be there 8:30
From: Principal Emo
Maki if you want me to sleep at 8pm then that means you want me to sleep for 12 and a half hours
From: Me
Did I fucking stutter
From: Principal Emo
<:( --- Kokichi Ouma's flight from the Malpensa Airport in Milan, Italy to the Narita Airport in Tokyo, Japan was the first time he had ever been on a plane by himself. He had done that on purpose when organizing the flight groups yesterday. Ace and King had suggested that groups be made up of twos and threes to avoid "unnecessary danger," which Kokichi heard as avoiding "letting our boss eat paper and be in vents." Naturally Kokichi responded that it was a positively splendid suggestion, considering he had come up with it already, and he had obliged by it, organizing them into four groups with Kokichi's own group including Queen and Jack. Except somehow they had booked tickets for the wrong flight. Oooh noooo, how could that be? And Queen had been the one to book the tickets too…
Kokichi supposed that he hadn't quite thought this whole being on a plane alone thing all the way through when he was hacking into the airline's online ticket system last night. It seemed now, in the daylight of sitting in the window seat of aisle 22 watching the clouds stroll listlessly across the sky so that he wouldn't have to look at the lady next to him paint her toenails, that there was nothing overtly beneficial about the lack of a familiar audience to his exploits. Sure, it was nice that he could have his blue eyes white dragon on the plane with him in his pocket instead of hidden within the checked bags, but what was the point of it if there was no one to duel with?
Basically he was bored.
But also weirdly not motivated to do anything to end the boredom. Which seemed counterintuitive, because not being bored was his whole deal. Then again maybe having a whole deal was counterintuitive to his supposedly liquid personality. If he wanted to stir things up maybe he should indulge this part of himself that wanted to be boring because then that would vary from his constant need to not be boring, which in excess could be viewed as boring. Then again, changing things about his personality just to avoid an arbitrary standard of boring-ness would also be pretty boring, wouldn’t it?
He tried to think of what the Kokichi who didn't want to be bored with all of his being would do right now. Maybe he would turn around and just start picking apart the insecurities of miss "my toes need to be pink for the beach!" over here until she started crying and jumped out of the plane. Then again, he didn't trust his brain not to imprint onto the next person who had long eyelashes and who he thought might fuck up his whole deal if he let it wander free into the dangerous world of airplane small talk. Sure, he could steal something or break something or just cause some sort of problem on purpose, but, very concerningly, it didn't seem like he wanted to.
It just... seemed like a hassle right now, to think about things and scheme. If he was the maitre d' of mischief then what was the point of it if there wasn’t someone important's perceptions to attend to?
So his brain was left here, grasping at straws, rewatching episodes of Detective Conan in his head, and wondering where he went wrong with the whole dashing phantom thief thing.
It also felt like there was something he was supposed to be doing that he was forgetting to do but he didn't have a lot of time to think about it, what with the recently discovered antique fabregé egg being stolen from the Suzuki Modern Art Museum in Osaka and all. How did Kaitou Kid do it?
Oh, wait, Kokichi knew what this feeling reminded him of. It felt something like being twelve again. Back when DICE was just around a year old and they were still living in that apartment in Hokkaido. They were barely scraping by at that point. Spades and Clubs were in junior high, still seriously considering going back to the old home. All the other teens were still in highschool, except for King, who was just starting nursing school, and Ace still had their first job with that phony resume Kokichi made them. Wait, they hadn't even come up with their code names yet had they? Yeah, they still called him Ouma-sama back then.
That seemed kind of silly, looking back on it. While everyone was at school or work, Kokichi would stay in that little apartment and watch anime for hours, sometimes making nasty little bills disappear through some light, white collar crime. Well, it wasn't always anime he watched while committing tax fraud. Sometimes he would watch game shows or browse the internet while sending emails that would topple companies in just the right way so that rice cakes would be on sale the next week. He memorized a lot of different security detail layouts while lazing around and rerouting rubber horse mask deliveries to the CEO of the Towa corporation because their stupid TVs were too expensive. He also played a lot of video games. Like… a lot a lot. Most of his time was spent playing video games now that he thought of it...
Recalling those times now felt like looking down at half of a person. Or more like looking back at someone who didn't know he was a person yet.
Except now he was a person and he knew that he was one and he was on a plane by himself because he wanted to sulk defiantly. Wait sulk? Sulking? Was that what he was doing?
Well yeah, maybe he was a bit bummed about Saihara. He hadn't been able to think about that earlier because if he thought about the pit of disappointment sapping in the back of his head it might suck the rest of him in too and then he'd be no use to anyone. But now he was alone and it didn't matter how he felt about anybody and somehow he was still confused by it.
Maybe Saihara just wasn't the hot shit Kokichi thought he was. Actually, Kokichi was probably just being dumb for expecting more. Or, on the other hand, Saihara might just be doing things the right way. Tracking an internationally traveling thief through flight records was logical, but somehow knowing how the trick was done made it lose a little bit of magic. Or all of it, seeing as magic isn't real and all. Maybe Kokichi had just been excited by the possibility that Saihara had presented, and thus blew his minor deductive talent out of proportion.
Obviously whatever had made Saihara so interesting to him was of no consequence now, because the detective wouldn't be able to find them with his little method this time, what with DICE staggering out the ticket buying and all. He wasn't even going to leave a note to Interpol this time around. And so the semi-epic story of Shuichi v. Kokichi would end here.
Then Kokichi could just keep leading DICE in heists. Forever. He guessed. He didn't know, actually, what the long term plan was vis a vis their ever escalating chain of petty thefts. Bishop had said they made ¥2,000,000 this month. Kokichi didn't even know how much they had saved up in out of country bank accounts. It seemed like too much.
What was he supposed to say about that to DICE though? Ok guys, we’re making too much money actually, time to slow it down a bit and face the fact that we've wasted our young lives on being only mildly disruptive to but somehow somewhat supportive of the institution of capitalism.
Then what would happen after that?
When he started planning these heists, Kokichi had never really thought of an “after” to becoming an internationally wanted thief. He had seen it as the end goal. The destiny career.
How do you end that?
Maybe he should just pull a Ryo from GX except instead of a heart condition killing him he could just jump off a-
“Ladies and gentlemen,” The crackling voice of the Captain over the plane intercom interrupted the train of thought Kokichi was having as well as where he was in his mental Detective Conan Kaito Kid best hits Marathon, “As we start our descent, please make sure your seat backs and tray tables are in their full upright position. Make sure your seat belt is securely fastened and all carry-on luggage is stowed underneath the seat in front of you or in the overhead bins. Thank you.”
Uh. What? This was a twelve hour flight and that sounded an awful lot like a landing announcement. Was the Captain on crack or someth-
Kokichi realized that the sky outside the window he had been spacing the fuck out through was dark now. Even more telling of the passage of time, though, was the fact that he was on episode 703 now, the train one where Kaitou Kid disguises himself as a maid.
In order to function like a real living person who experienced the passage of time, Kokichi banished anime from his brain.
Okay, not thinking about anime anymore… thinking instead about what to do when not on the plane….
Right, he was supposed to wait at the baggage claim until Rook, King, Queen and Jack’s flights came in. Then they would drive to the rendezvous in central Tokyo where they would meet the members who landed at Haneda instead of Narita. Then they would head to the JAXA launch site on one of the islands in the Kagoshima prefecture and Kokichi would lay out the heist plan he came up with on... the…. plane….
Oh... he forgot to do that, didn’t he?
See, who needed a nemesis when Kokichi had self foiling down to a science? --- Shuichi Saihara really meant to sleep last night. He really did. He went through the whole thing too, brushing his teeth, putting on a sleep t-shirt, and lying down in the bed. Yet somehow his brain never got the message that it was time to shut down.
Instead, it compulsively lit up with anxiety, which began dueling it out with the half hearted self reassurances he postulated to pretend he was coping.
The afternoon before, Shuichi had returned to the small building which served as his dual purpose home/office to find a slew of missed phone calls and letters. He spent three, gut-wrenchingly guilt-ridden hours sorting through everything from distress calls from potential clients, some well wishes from clients he had been following up with, and worst of all extremely distressed calls from clients he had failed to follow up with in wake of the DICE case.
He felt like the stupidest, most pathetic excuse for a detective on the face of the earth. He knew that he shouldn’t feel that way, but how could he not come to that conclusion with all the evidence that lay before him? Every call and letter was from a person that Shuichi had failed to help because he had somehow decided vainly pursuing international thieves was something only he could do. Maybe early on it had seemed like the logical step to pursue the thieves where interpol couldn’t. Shuichi had just come off of a big bust in the organized crime sector of Towa City, tracing back a series of revenge killings at the behest of a secretive swordswoman, and had been passively keeping up with the DICE case on the side. When he had managed to get his hands on one of the encoded letters sent to Interpol, he was certain DICE was going to hit the Smithsonian, so he and Kaito had gotten on a plane to America. And then they didn’t catch the thief and obviously that was Shuichi’s fault because the evidence was all in his hands if he had only been fast enough… So he got the next letter and pursued the thieves to Paris and he got even closer and when he failed it was even more obviously his fault because he should’ve been smart enough to notice an internationally wanted thief sitting literally right next to him. And then some how he had decided that? Stealing plane records was the next logical step? How did he even get there? It was so obviously over the line… But would he really have been satisfied, then, if he had just given up on the truth? Was he really satisfied now? He couldn’t possibly-
It didn’t matter whether he was satisfied or not. Not everything was about him. He had his own job to do here in Towa City and he had forgotten that for about a month and a half to chase after a group of essentially harmless thieves. There had been four murders in Towa City since then! And Shuichi knew that because four people had called him to investigate them! And Shuichi was aware that people would be calling him about violent crime! And he had seen the evidence that the thieves had a zero casualty count! And yet somehow he still had to have Agent Ishimaru spell it out for him that he should’ve just stayed home!
Okay he was freaking out a bit, things were fine. Interpol was going to take care of DICE now. It wasn't Shuichi's case. He needed to calm down. Stop trying to convince himself there was more to the case. Why would he think he knew the case best when he worked on it for less than half a hear? Interpol had been tracking criminal activity suspected of the organization for nearly a decade now. Then again maybe that was a point against interpol. What if they were in-
Stop! No! Not his case! Stop being suspicious!
Shuichi had other things to focus on now. He had managed to get into contact with most of the people who had left him messages, and to make up for lost time he had decided to try and take up a few cases at a time. Except contrary to his own self-conceited beliefs there were more detectives in Towa City than just him, and everyone who had called him about a case had managed to hire someone else already.
He tried to convince himself this was a good thing, as he lay awake at night. Everything was fine. He wasn’t failing anyone. There were so many other capable detectives in Towa city. No reason to be concerned.
Yeah, nobody needed him, the pathetic detective he was anyway. He hadn’t even managed to get close to catching DICE’s leader, let alone the nine other members of the group…
Well maybe he had gotten pretty close. He remembered grappling with the thief in Taipei and Milan. The close contact with the pilferer of his pursuit only made Shuichi’s own incompetence more frustrating, his mistakes made more obvious in the light of hindsight.
He really wanted to know why-
Not his case. God what an idiot. What had Dr. Iruma diagnosed him with after the thief escaped? Ah that’s right, shit for brains.
… That reminded him, he should follow up with the Idabashi labs people. He had gotten so caught up in making sure he stayed on DICE’s tail that he forgot to even perform the most basic courtesy in his practice as a detective. Being able to check up with clients, bystanders, and victims without risking a witness tampering charge was one of the main benefits of being a private detective versus being a police detective. When he had started his private practice Shuichi had promised himself that now that he could put the people involved in a case before the case itself he would do so to the best of his ability. He usually took much better care to address concerns of breaking and entering victims, what had he been thinking leaving the labs immediately to pursue DICE? Dr. Iruma had still been uncertain if her friend would recover from being shut down right in front of her! Shuichi was shocked at his own behavior. It was the kind of awful thing he would have pulled as a reckless teen detective, pursuing the truth without regard for who he accused or lied to along the way. The resurfacing of this behavior seemed appalling to him now.
He should call Idabashi labs right away to apologize.
It was this thought that finally stirred him from his half-awake stupor at 4 AM. At realizing the time, the part of Shuichi’s brain that was still capable of higher reasoning decided that calling would be rather rude at the hour, but he was too anxious he’d forget to call at all if he postponed now to abandon the idea altogether. In compromise, he took out his laptop and began drafting a letter to Dr. Iruma instead, expressing his regrets and apologies of every little thing he could think of. The broken windows, the used bomb, the cup of coffee he had made in her kitchen without asking…
He was typing and retyping the sign off at the end of the letter (Sincerely was a good stand bye but not very personal? Concernedly? Too personal. Thank you for your time? Ugh not the right tone) when he heard the knock at the door.
Shuichi blinked, breaking the trance-like state that he now realized had led him to write a four page letter. He looked at the grandfather clock on his mantle. It read 10:31 AM. Which meant it was actually 8:27 AM because that clock was 2 hours and 4 minutes fast and Shuichi was too afraid he might break it to try and fix it.
Maki had promised to pick him up at 8:30 so by process of logical deduction Shuichi could safely assume that it was her outside, coming to bully him for being sleep deprived.
Sure enough, the sound of the spare key he’d given her and Kaito could be heard jiggling in the door knob. Maki opened the door.
The desk Shuichi was working at was in his client reception area, which was unfortunately immediately in view of anyone opening the door. Maki locked eyes with him almost instantly, and the look in hers was that of disappointment.
“And here I was thinking you might actually be asleep.”
“Uh. Sorry.” Shuichi said, closing his laptop. Then he opened it again. “Hey if you were apologizing to someone for not catching a burglar in their home/place of work and then leaving while their friend was sick so that you could chase said crook to another continent, would you sign the letter ‘sincerely’ or with something more like ‘once more expressing deepest apologies...”
Maki frowned, coming in and closing the door. “I’m not good at apologies. Those both sound polite but, knowing you, you probably didn't do something you would actually need that level of politeness to apologize for.”
“Um.” Shuichi went with ‘deepest apologies, -Shuichi Saihara.’ “Better safe than sorry?” He hit print. The printer his laptop was connected to was upstairs in the office where he kept his case files, so he had to run up the stairs to grab the printed letter.
Maki, seeming to sense he was going to need a second to put his four page letter in an envelope, sighed and came into the building from the entryway. She took off her shoes, heading towards the kitchen in the next room over.
When Shuichi got back down stairs with his four page apology letter safely tucked away in an envelope with a nice international stamp on it, he came into the kitchen to find Maki unplugging his coffee maker.
Both took a moment to register what one another was holding in their hands. Then they both frowned disapprovingly.
“Maki come on…” Shuichi protested weakly. “I don’t want to fall asleep at the JAXA open house.”
“Shuichi you’re at ten-page-apology-letter crazy right now and you think caffeine is going to help you?”
“Yes.” Uh. Wait. Was that healthy? “Maybe.” Probably not. “It’s only four pages.”
She narrowed her eyes at him. Okay Shuichi was not on the winning side of logic here that much was clear. But still…
“Okay you win.” Shuichi relented, moving toward the kitchen counter as if to set down the envelope in his hands.
The second he dropped it, he made a mad lunge for the coffee maker cord. Maki effortlessly pulled it out of the way and grabbed his wrist, twisting him into a lock and then bringing him to a pin on the ground.
“What was the plan there?” She asked. Was it just him or did she sound bemused? He couldn’t really look at her face to garner her expression because his own face was currently smashed against the tile of his own kitchen.
“No plan.” Shuichi admitted through a mouthful of the floor. “Only caffeine withdrawal.”
“Okay.” Shuichi felt his center of gravity flip once more, “You’re sleeping in the car.” Shuichi realized that Maki had scooped him up into a princess carry too late to actually do anything about it.
“Hey!” Shuichi protested, a little indignant.
Being close friends with Maki Harukawa came with the knowledge that you were going to be treated like you weighed less than a ragdoll from time to time. She had a tendency to muscle her way through social interactions if at all possible. Her significant other just gave her a compliment she didn’t know how to deal with? Punch him. That guy at work wouldn’t stop talking to her about his fucking car? Walk through a door and close it in his face if he tries to follow. Her best friend wants to make a series of regrettable decisions? Physically prevent him from doing so because he is easier to lift than a handful of grapes.
Shuichi had been friends with Maki for about seven years now, and he knew this all well enough, but that didn’t mean he had to go down without a fight. “Maki I have to get my letter to the-”
“Shuichi when you get back to that letter tomorrow morning you’ll be embarrassed you even wrote it.”
Okay, maybe Shuichi would go down without a fight. Maki made a good point, Shuichi was very often embarrassed by things he himself did while off his daily recommended prescription of z’s and or caffeine.
“Okay! I give! You’re right.”
“I know.” Maki had gotten to the front door and seemed to be puzzling out how to open it with her elbow.
“Here I can walk by myself.” Shuichi made a move to roll out of Maki’s arms, but she was still gripping his shoulder in place.
“Walk to the car by yourself or walk to your kitchen and feed your caffeine addiction?” She looked down at him with a stern expression that implied only one correct answer.
“The car.” Shuichi relented.
“Alright then.”
Maki set him down and opened the door while he grabbed his coat from the closet.
She gave him another look.
“What is it?” Shuichi thought she was scrutinizing his appearance, so he mentally did the same. “Oh! I forgot to do my eyes-” Today his morning routine had been: get out of bed, go to computer, write apology letter, whereas usually it went: get out of bed, apply eyeliner, worry about inadequacies, drink coffee, feel marginally better. Shuichi had skipped the second step, and he was about to rush to the bathroom to correct it, but Maki grabbed his arm.
“Shuichi we’re going to Tanegashima in August. It’s 30 degrees there. Your eyes are going to melt. Along with the rest of you.”
Shuichi took a moment to realize that Maki herself was wearing shorts and a loose aloha shirt. Meanwhile he was standing here in his baggy sleep t-shirt, skinny jeans, and black trenchcoat.
“Uh.” Shuichi took off his coat and tied it around his waist. “Better?”
“Hmph.” Maki grumbled, walking out onto the sidewalk. “If you die of heatstroke on the way there, I’m not going to your funeral.”
“Not even if Kaito went?” Shuichi followed, locking the door behind him.
“Especially not if Kaito went.” Maki pulled out her keys and unlocked her car, which was parallel parked on the street by Shuichi’s office. “He’d cry like a baby. It would be insufferable.”
Maki’s car was an old black honda that always smelled a little like burnt sugar. With Maki, Shuichi couldn't be sure if the smell came from a baking mishap or the trace of nitroglycerin from a recently fired gun. It was probably both. On hot days the air inside was unbearably warm until the AC was turned on for at least a minute, because the seats were made of a dark, greasy pleather sort of thing that made it its mission to absorb as much heat as possible. Shuichi had a distinct memory of pressing his face against the material to avoid being shot from behind. In fact he sort of had a slideshow of bad memories associated with riding in this car on various high stake chases or on the approach of even more stressful social situations. Yet despite all that, the second Shuichi settled into the passenger seat and pulled the seat belt over himself, he felt more at home than he had pulling up the covers when he’d been trying to sleep last night.
What happened next was embarrassingly predictable. From Shuichi’s point of view it seemed like Maki started the car, he closed his eyes, and then when he opened them his face was pressed against the window and he could see the Towa Bridge Expressway zooming past him.
The road was on the upper side of one of the bridges Towa Corp had built about a decade ago connecting Islands like Tanegashima, Yakushima, and Towa City to the mainland. On the underside of the bridges were bullet trains that ran underwater between the islands.
Regardless of this, all roads feel the same under the wheels of a car you forget falling asleep in.
“Hghh.” Shuichi was half aware that his throat was the thing that just made that noise.
“Wow you got a whole REM cycle in there.” Maki seemed to hear his rooster cry of wakefulness despite the interference of some sort of j-pop song coming out of the car speakers. As Shuichi’s eyes adjusted to the pale daylight stinging his retinas, he could make out that his friend had her eyes fixed on the road. “That must be a new record.”
“If you’re gonna-” Shuichi realized his speech was muffled and that it was because his face was still against the window. He made an effort to sit up straight and started his sentence again, unobstructed. “If you’re going to make fun of me for sleeping the same as not sleeping then why should I even bother?”
“Because your health is your health and that isn’t beholden to my judgement.”
“Everything about me is beholden to judgement.” Shuichi muttered, still thinking miserably about his poor uncle’s good name, which he was most certainly running into the ground by having the office closed for another day. He was working a sum total of NO cases right now. Maybe he should write his uncle an apology letter too. Then again he wouldn’t want to bother him in his retirement… Who would want to have their nice day interrupted by their whining nephew? No one.
“Yeah, you should fix that.” Apparently driving for an hour and a half hadn’t changed Maki’s stance. She still had biting comments about his poor self esteem at the ready.
“Hghk.” Shuichi replied eloquently.
“Yeah, tell me about it.” Maki muttered in reply.
"What does that mean?"
"Nothing." Maki replied a little too quickly. She was chewing her lip. After a moment of thought she went on. "Well I guess it means something. But I'm still trying to wrap my head around it and I don't want to tell you until I have it phrased right in my mind."
"Hm. Okay."
Shuichi tried to regain faculty over his higher social functions in an attempt to discern what Maki was upset about and to make sure it wasn’t anything that he did. But while he was performing this heroic feat he closed his eyes on accident and then when he opened them again Maki was parking, presumably on the campus of the Tanegashima Space Center.
Shuichi groaned, now finding himself leaned in the opposite direction of the window. “Why does it feel like the part of my brain that produces melatonin is always waiting to get me by surprise?”
“Because you keep trying to drown it in caffeine,” Maki replied readily, seeming to have lost her contemplative mood after another hour of driving, “it’s fighting for it’s life, of course it’s going to use guerilla tactics.”
Shuichi shook the feeling back into his legs as Maki pulled into a spot. He remembered when he used to drive a lot more. When he was on the force he had access to a police cruiser, but nowadays Shuichi had trouble driving a car while he was on his own. He kept having intrusive thoughts about accidentally hitting pedestrians. A lot of grisly murders happened like that. Even now he could picture that guy whose head had been crushed under the wheel of a yakuza boss’s car…
“Come on, we haven’t got all day.” Maki tapped him in the arm with her fist, then got out of the car. Shuichi was going to follow suit, but he paused to check himself for eye crusties in the pull down mirror. He had just regained the mental capacity to remember he didn’t put on his eyeliner and now it was time to be anxious about his appearance again. Well, at least this would probably go better than the last time he encountered a social situation without doing his eyes. He really thought he’d be safe going to ask Keebo about the wi-fi, but he had managed to stumble into a robbery in process, which had then turned into a hostage situation, which had then turned into an all night police investigation and journalists tried to talk to him again and then Dr. Iruma was doing robot surgery and he got chewed out by Ishimaru again and-
“Shuichi?” Maki had ducked her head back into the car. “Are you coming?”
Shuichi startled out his internal anxiety tirade. “Y-yeah! Sorry.” He shut the mirror and opened the door of the car. It took a second to untangle his coat from the seatbelt, but he managed to get out and retie it around his waist.
“Hey…” Maki had locked the car and come around to his side. Her eyebrows were furrowed. “Are you alright?”
“What?” Shuichi blinked. Did he really look that bad? “No, yeah, I’m fine.” It only occurred to him he was kind of lying for no reason after he said it. “I mean, well. I’m just like. Embarrassed about not being able to see that case I was doing through all the way to the end. Like, I’m thinking about all the ways I messed it up, you know?”
Maki nodded. “Yeah. I feel that way too. About my own stuff. Sometimes. A lot of times. Actually.” Her fingers tangled into a strand of her hair. “But… Well, you know what he would say about it already, don’t you?”
Oh yeah. “Probably something like… the past is the past. What really matters is what you do now.” Just thinking about what Kaito would say made him feel better... He shook his head. “I really should just get ‘what would Kaito do’ tattooed on my brain…”
“Yeah, as long as you’re not in a haunted house.” Maki pointed out.
Shuichi laughed. “Yeah… I guess so…”
Maki looked down at her feet, still carding her hands through her hair.
“I’m… Going to miss him.” She confessed.
Shuichi suddenly felt extremely guilty. Here Maki was trying to keep his anxiety from preventing the performance of his every day functions and he had totally neglected to consider she was going through a lot right now too. Shuichi knew that Kaito had been a lifeline for Maki for a long time, and even though she was in a much better place now Shuichi would be much less of an awful friend if he had realized how much harder Kaito’s absence would hit her.
“What’s with that expression?” She muttered. Shuichi realized he was making a very fretful face. “Ugh. Nevermind, talking about this is pointless anyway…”
“It’s not pointless!” Shuichi rebutted quickly. “Of course you’ll miss Kaito. Talking about your feelings is an important step in processing them… And you know I want to be here for you if you ever need that. I’m your friend.”
“Yeah.” She pushed her hair back from her face. “I know.” She was chewing her lip again. “Uh. Thanks. Sorry if I’ve been kind of… mother henning you today. It’s just. I don’t want to be… Alone again.”
Now Shuichi really felt like a bad friend. “Oh, Maki-”
Shuichi was interrupted by the 2012 song ‘Space Unicorn’ blasting from Maki’s phone. Whenever Shuichi heard that song, it reminded him of udon noodle soup, because that’s what he’d been eating in the college cafeteria when Kaito set it as his ringtone in Maki’s phone.
“Ugh. I hate that song.” Maki took the phone out of her pocket. “We’ll talk later.” She told Shuichi, before answering the call.
“What is it.” Shuichi overheard Maki’s side of the conversation. “We just parked… Yeah… Where?... That’s troublesome… I’m kidding… Ok, see you there… Gross.”
She hung up.
“He says he’s waiting for us by the bus terminal at the museum. Which is on the other side of the campus.”
Oh, Kaito… “It’s like he’s making us run laps again…”
“I’ll try not to leave you behind.” Maki offered, kindly.
“Hey, maybe I’ll be able to keep pace…” Shuichi postulated. “I’ve been in a lot of chases recently.”
“You won’t be.” Maki said, already jogging in place.
“I’ll try my best…” Shuichi promised. --- Kokichi Ouma found himself wondering where exactly that big old brain of his had wandered off to. He knew that by all accounts he was very good at coming up with plans on the fly. Yet for some reason the performance of the actual organ that processed his mental functions was lacking at the moment. Like it didn’t know it was supposed to be the brain of an internationally wanted criminal today. Spontaneity was supposed to mean fun for him, but for some reason this whole build a plane plan seemed more like a point of stress than anything else. Which was weird because Kokichi didn’t usually get stressed. There was just something about this heist that he wasn’t looking forward to and he couldn’t identify what exactly it was or how exactly he was supposed to get around it.
Kokichi was still trying to halfass his way to a half decent plan when DICE reunited in Tokyo. And on the drive down to the Kagoshima prefecture he had more than enough time to think about a plan. In fact he had another 15 hours. And he just… Didn’t. He just didn’t think of a plan. He just sat around pretending to be sociable and analyzing the rest of the group’s conversations and sleeping habits. He thought that maybe he was anxious about them scheming behind his back again, but realizing that he was anxious should have made the being anxious go away, so he decided that it wasn’t that.
So when they finally did arrive at the Tanegashima Space Center in their stolen Space Center Tour bus the next morning and everyone huddled in the backmost rows of seats to hear what exactly the plan was, Kokichi had to pause for a second.
Uh. Okay. Plan time.
“You may not have noticed,” Kokichi started off after compiling some observations in his head, “But there’s an open house happening at this facility for JAXA employees and family members right now. We’re going to capitalize on that for our fakeout heist, which will be centered around the museum’s gift shop.” Right because the open house wouldn’t let them have access to the non-touristy shit. “Rook, King, Bishop, you’re going to be on that.” Ugh that wasn’t very detailed. “The fake mark is…” Fuck think of something stupid. “As many of those freeze-dried ice cream things as you can carry.” Okay that left him with 7 pieces for the real heist. “Jack, Clubs, Spades you’re on floor duty, make sure to call in suspicious personnel, we have the map of the space center in the heist planning chat.” He had remembered to do that much at least. “So spread out as much as you can.” Four pieces. “Queen, you know what you need. Get Ace to handle transport.” Should he really be delegating that much power to Queen after his little upstart? Or did it just show insecurity to not trust him? Too late to contemplate. “When you get back to the bus, text us and then take off ASAP.” The jet engine would take up most of the tour bus, so they had to get an alternative means of escape. “Hearts, you and I are going to disable security systems and get the secondary escape car.” That was something he knew how to do at least. “Any questions.”
Kokichi would usually expect a hearty “No sir!” to that concluding statement, but instead he observed a smattering of queer looks from the car full of clowns.
Hearts was the first to pipe up. “Uh, boss, your plan for disabling the security system wouldn’t happen to involve getting into the vents, would it?”
“Yeah.” There wasn’t really a better way to covertly sneak around a facility like this when their identities may be compromised. “What about it?”
Kokichi really didn’t have time for Hearts’s whole ‘I don’t like getting vent dust on my white uniform’ thing. He would just pretend like the whole group misheard him and he assigned her to ground duty in the first place if she said she wanted to swap-
“No, I just think maybe I could handle the security system myself.” Oh. That was a new one. “There’s not really a need for you to... You know, risk yourself.”
Kokichi was suddenly made aware of the bandage that was still wrapped around his forehead. He consciously resisted the urge to graze his hand over it. He didn’t want to play into the whole damaged goods bullshit that was going on right now in terms of how his subordinates were viewing him. Then again maybe that’s exactly what he should do…
“Believe me, I’ve considered the consequences,” Kokichi compelled himself to shed a single tear, clenching his fist like a shounen anime protagonist. “And though I may be suffering great pain and personal injury… I’ll risk it if it means not letting my friends down…”
Queen rolled his eyes, seeming to buy Kokichi’s bit, but Hearts still looked concerned, and now King was getting ready to add his two cents.
“Uh, Boss.” Ugh him and his stupid Nurse’s license, “It’s really fine if you wanna stay back…” Maybe if Kokichi cried he could derail this? “Your head is still healing and if, you know, an accident happens, you could re-open it and then we might have to suture...”
No, crying would just make him look worse now. The power dynamic would make it look like he was trying to convince King to let him go on the heist, which didn’t make sense at all. Maybe he could slot himself into a different group? No, most elements of this plan involved being in civilian wear and that’d just remind his crew about that time he just casually let a detective get a police sketch done of him like one of his french girls. Besides, he didn’t strictly need to participate in every step of this heist anyway. Kokichi’s real goal here was to maintain the idea in his subordinates’ minds that he was not a twerp trying to find the most unreliable time to bleed out. Hmm, okay, let’s go with this then.
Kokichi flashed an incredulous grin before smothering it into an exaggerated damsel expression. “Oh,,, I hate to admit it, but you’re so right, King.” He leaned over dramatically, “Every second is torture in this frail body of mine, it’s taking all my strength just to stand here before you!” He wasn’t standing but that was probably the easiest thing he was lying about right now, “I guess I’ll just have to.. Stay here, and.. Regain my strength… While you guys do all the work.” He pulled out the handkerchief he just remembered he had and was going to blow his nose into it before he remembered at the last second it wasn’t his handkerchief. He settled for a grotesque imitation of blowing his nose instead. He lay down across the back seat in a faint. “Ohh, alas, I fear I am not long for this world…”
“I vote we leave him here to die.” Jack bought in, rolling her eyes.
“I second the motion.” That was Queen, and yeah, Kokichi had expected that much.
“Hey, since when is this a democracy?” Kokichi sat up, adjusting the fluidity of his motions to reflect perfect health once more.
“Since our boss died,” Jack wiped away a fake tear with her finger. “I miss him every day… Sometimes I even hear his voice…”
Kokichi tossed aside the handkerchief and took a bag of chips out from the seat in front of him where he had seen Bishop stash them earlier. He poured the chips into his own lap and then crumbled up the bag into a ball before throwing it at Jack’s face.
Jack, in turn, batted it away, and it hit Spades, who caught it and threw it back at Jack, who dodged, which led the bag to hit Rook instead. Rook picked it up and got ready to throw it again, but Hearts took it out of their hands, leading to Rook just throwing air at Clubs, who squealed despite nothing actually hitting him and jumped out of his seat.
Okay, success. Concern about Kokichi’s injuries had all but dissipated as Club’s reaction got a smattering of giggles.
“Wow,” He remarked to Hearts, who was still holding the crumpled chip bag. “I’m sure a dove of peace such as yourself can handle the security system all on your lonesome.” He gestured to his lap, which was still covered in chips. “As you see I have other business to attend to.” He picked up one of the chips and put it in his mouth, chewing slowly. When he finished the first chip he issued his final direction. “You guys better get started on your assignments. I’ll be here when you need to hijack the second getaway car.”
“Yes, Boss!” Most of his crew said the words more for their ritualistic purpose of ending the team huddle rather than out of genuine enthusiasm. They collected their gear, mostly stored in beach bags and casual purses, and filtered out of the van one by one. Everyone was still in their civilian clothing, so they’d blend right in with the crowds of tourists and open-house-goers.
And then Kokichi was alone again. Except instead of a plane he was on a tour bus. Eating chips off his lap. He got through them in about four minutes, which he estimated was about how long it would take DICE to get out of sight’s distance from the bus. When that time had passed, he licked the remaining salt and grease of his fingers and then stood up, brushing chip crumbs off his lap. Once he was clean, he picked up the handkerchief he had thrown aside earlier. He folded it up along the crease lines into a square, and put it in his pocket again. He convinced himself it was just because he wanted something to do.
He went up to the driver’s seat, sitting down. He didn’t have his license to drive a normal car, let alone a bus, but it didn’t really matter because the bus’s windows were reflective from the outside. They had parked the tour bus close to the entrance in the bus lane, so Kokichi had a good view of the people coming and going from the space center. If he had put any effort into this plan at all, he might’ve stationed Club or Spade here as a look out. Well, he guessed he was the look out now. Hah. Great.
….
BORED. He was bored again. Hgghghgfffkk.
He considered hitting his head against the horn of the car just to do something and by “considered” he meant he tried to actually do it but missed and almost hit his head on the dashboard before stopping and realizing that was a bad idea. For one, honking the horn would just make the vehicle look conspicuous, which was not ideal for a getaway car. And then there was also the fact that his plan had needlessly included bashing his head again which could open his cut and just cause a big hassle when King got back with his whole ‘I’m a licensed practical nurse’ thing he had going on.
So, okay. No horn honking. Right.
Kokichi took out his phone and checked Discord. The channel for heists had no new notifications. He put his phone away again.
God he was going to die in here. Wow, needy much? Shut up brain. Um.
Kokichi leaned over, smushing his chin against the dashboard, and occupied himself by looking at the passersby and picking out random details to build conspiracies about them. That guy’s shirt was untucked, untucked had eight letters in it, magic eight balls could see the future, eight balls were round, you know what else is round? An eyeball. Illuminati, natch. Next. That woman’s achilles tendon was chapped even though she was wearing sandals, which meant she wore heels a lot. Heel was something you said to train a dog. Who was trying to train the human race like dogs? The Illuminati. Next. That guy had really ugly hair. Looked like he used a lot of gel. Gel has three- wait, what?
Kokichi recognized that dumb hair style. It was almost like… No, it couldn’t be. The guy who had been with Saihara at the Smithsonian. What?
Kokichi didn’t let himself get excited until he spotted the slightly less dumb and slightly more familiar haircut on the guy standing next to him.
There was Shuichi Saihara, who was, apparently, the best detective in the world. Also, he was wearing a T-shirt, which was hilarious because he usually wore business casual button ups under his dark trench coat. Kokichi could see his arms, which were-
Wait, no, forget about his arms. How did any part of him even get here? How did he know? There wasn’t any way- Did he lie? HE LIED TO INTERPOL.
Wow, Saihara had more balls than Kokichi had originally anticipated. He should get out there and tickle them a little.
Kokichi started reformulating everything he had originally thought about this heist. If Saihara was going to buy into the phony heist he would have to get into the mix himself. How much would the detective have learned from their last bout in Milan? He knew about Kokichi’s head injury, surely. Kokichi stood up and headed for the door out of the bus. He would have to make his approach subtly, but the buffoon probably wouldn’t be much trouble to deal with. If anything he might make Saihara easier to trick. They were on the move, Kokichi would have to catch up. Was that woman in the hawaiian button up with them too? Yeah, it seemed like it. When she paused to look around, they paused too, looking back, presumably to see what was keeping her. Her eyes were scanning the crowd like she was some kind of terminator bot or something-
Every part of Kokichi froze when that gaze slipped past his.
He saw her face in that moment. Blunt brunette bangs. A dark birthmark. Blood red eyes.
For one shallow breath, a metallic tang poisoned the air in his lungs.
The eyes glanced unnotably over the JAXA tour bus. And then the red woman just... turned and walked away.
Saihara followed her into the building.
Kokichi sat back down.
What the fuck was she doing here. --- Shuichi Saihara’s best, it turned out, was most certainly not enough to keep pace with Maki Harukawa in a run across the Tanegashima Space Center’s beautiful green campus. Shuichi had plenty of time to admire that beautiful green color the grass had as he stood doubled over trying to catch his breath in front of the center’s main entrance.
Maki was standing by Kaito, breathing perfectly fine with only a modest sheen on her forehead as evidence of the run. Meanwhile, Shuichi was over here sweating through his t-shirt and trying not to let his lungs burst.
“Is he okay?” Kaito not so quietly whispered to Maki.
“He will be.” Maki replied, “He’s just an idiot who decided black skinny jeans were the way to go even though it’s the middle of the sunny season…”
“In my… Defense…” Shuichi panted out between gulps of air. “I didn’t… know… I’d be… running…  today…”
“Hey man, sweat’s just another word for hard work.” Kaito claimed, coming over to pat Shuichi on the back. “Awesome effort, sidekick.”
“Thanks… Kaito…” Shuichi was still trying to suppress his aching lungs into a normal pattern of breathing.
“Hold your hands over your head.” Maki advised, “It’ll open up your chest.”
Oh right, right. Shuichi should know that by now. He moved up from his hands-on-knees-to-make-sure-he-didn’t-fall-over position to one where his arms were up with his hands on his head. Immediately he found breathing easier, although the air was just as hot and stifling as before.
“You know,” Maki was looking at Kaito now. “We wouldn’t have had to run if you had been more specific before I paid for the parking permit… You said you wanted to show us the launch spectation sites, so our car is parked all the way out there...”
“Well, yeah, I did say that…” Kaito was characteristically unflustered by the accusation, “but, then I realized it would be better to show you guys the museum building first! This way we can take our time looking at the launch viewing sites without having to worry if the museum will be open or not later...”
Shuichi wondered if that was just an excuse for Kaito changing his mind about hiking when he realized how hot it was today.  Kaito had a tendency to be a little unreliable when it came to making plans with friends, but then again Shuichi also had a tendency to forgive him for that.
Maki usually did not. So when Maki just sighed and shook her head, Shuichi took that as a signal to let Kaito off the hook on this one.
It was so strange to think that in just another week, Shuichi wouldn’t be able to make any plans with Kaito at all…
Ugh. He shouldn’t think about that right now.
“Hey, what’s with the sour looks, you two?” Kaito’s words made Shuichi aware of his own conflicted expression, “Come on, I know what’ll cheer you up!” Kaito turned, walking towards the entrance and gesturing for them to follow him with a sweeping arm movement.
Shichi complied, but stopped when he noticed Maki wasn’t moving with them.
Instead, she was scanning the parking lot behind them with a dangerous look in her eyes…
“... Maki?” Shuichi asked hesitantly.
She didn’t seem to register him, but Kaito did, turning back around.
“Is something the matter, Maki Roll?” He called.
That seemed to snap her out of it. “It’s nothing.” She shook her head and started walking into the building. “Let’s go inside.”
“Hey, what’d I say about secrets?” Kaito confronted her, but he followed her through the doors anyway, Shuichi not far behind him.
“I never agreed to that…” Maki muttered, still walking. “But it really isn’t anything. I just felt like someone was watching us out there…”
Shuichi felt a chill go down his spine. He had also felt something off, but he thought it was just a him thing. He had been seeing the faces of DICE in random passerby ever since he touched down in Tokyo and it was setting him on edge even though he knew his suspicions were completely unsubstantiated. In fact there had been that big tour group of 9 or 8 people that passed them by while they were at the entrance... Could-
“Oh well, they probably were,” Kaito shrugged, “You know, I’m a famous astronaut and all.”
Oh. Yeah. Duh. Maybe the chill Shuichi had felt was just the museum’s AC …
“That isn’t…” Maki cut herself off, seeming to think better of whatever she had been about to say. “You’re probably right. Don’t make a big deal out of it.”
“Alrighty, whatever you say, Maki Roll.” Kaito moved forward as if the issue was entirely settled and had maybe never been unsettled in the first place. “Now come on! I want to show you something!”
What Kaito had wanted to show them turned out to be a series of star maps that were up for display as a promotion for the upcoming launch. Included were larger infographics about which lights in the sky were actually satellites, but those weren’t what Kaito was interested in.
“Look!” He exclaimed, pointing at a section of one of the maps, “Right here! What do you see?”
“Stars?” Maki asked, looking mildly amused by her boyfriend’s enthusiasm.
“Well, yes but…”
“Oh!” Shuichi exclaimed, now pointing as well. “I recognize this one! It’s the beard of despair!”
He was pointing to a circle of stars that he and Maki had named after the cheek to cheek beard Kaito came back from his winter break with in their last year at Towa Community College.
“Hey, that’s right!” Maki exclaimed.
“Why is that the only one you guys remember…” Kaito grumbled.
Come to think about it, a lot of the stars looked familiar… “Are these the stars that appear over TCC?”
“Well, it varies depending on the season, but yeah that’s what we were looking at most of the time!”
Shuichi was overcome with a wave of nostalgia. He first met Maki and Kaito when he had been doing the mandatory two years of training it took to become a Towa City police officer after he had passed the national exam. He had been disillusioned with a future in his uncle’s practice because the idea of getting paid to dig up dirt had skeezed him out, not to mention that he still had huge doubts about his own ability as a detective to earn a living off of it. A police detective had seemed like a more secure, if more restricting, job than private detective work.
Well, maybe it was more accurate to say that Kaito had met Maki and Shuichi and then decided they were all going to be friends because he said so. He used to make them meet him in the school court yard every night after dark to do exercises of various kinds. Sometimes they put aside exercise in lieu of star gazing when Kaito was in the mood.
“Hey, do you remember when Kaito told us which planets he thought were most like us?” Maki asked Shuichi, probably remembering the same times he was, “And when we asked him what planet he was, he said the sun?”
Shuichi squinted. “Oh yeah… I think I remember…” he vaguely recalled thinking that the planet Kaito assigned him was weird, but he didn’t remember why or which planet it was.
“Well, now that I know more about space and stuff, I think he was right.”
“Aww… Maki Roll.”
She smiled a little. “Yeah… The sun is a big ball of gas, just like him.”
“Hey!” Kaito smacked his chest, acting as if taken aback, but Shuichi was pretty sure he was secretly delighted that Maki admitted to knowing more about space now.
Maki laughed, “This is what you get for talking about astronomy every night…”
Shuichi remarked to himself how long it had taken for Maki’s laugh to seem commonplace in a conversation. She was really a lot more open then she had been when they spent those first few nights under the stars. It was understandable, though, considering…
“Which planets did you say we were again?” Shuichi found himself asking.
“Hm?” Kaito paused, squinting for a second in thought. “Uh… I’m pretty sure it was…”
“You said I was Mars,” Maki supplied, “And I think Shuichi was Venus.”
“Oh yeah!” Kaito made a sort of ‘That’s it!’ gesture with his palm and fist, “Maki was Mars because she tried to seem dry and uninhabitable, but there was definitely a frozen ocean in there somewhere, and Shuichi, you were Venus, because even though you thought you tried to blend in with the stars all the time, sometimes you could appear in the day as a second sun!”
Huh. That was pretty nice to say, but Shuichi wasn’t sure it was what he remembered…
“Oh, wait.” Maki interjected, “Didn’t you say something else last time?”
“Hm?” Kaito put on his ‘I’m remembering something’ face again. “Did I say… Oh yeah!” He laughed. “I said Venus suited Shuichi because Venus is the goddess of love and Shuichi’s clients keep falling in love with him!”
Shuichi suddenly remembered exactly why he had been so offended by Kaito’s characterization of him all those years ago.
Maki gave him a bemused look, “Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s the face you made last time too...”
“Yeah, that’s because it’s a really weird thing to say about my clients Kaito…”
“Oh yeah?” Kaito grinned now that he wasn’t the one being teased, “You can’t say I’m really wrong though, bro…”
Shuichi shook his head, “A detective can’t think that way about his clients! It’s exploitative!”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t stop them from thinking that way about you…” Maki pointed out.
“I- What- Maki-” Shuichi did not want to talk about this actually, he turned to Kaito hoping for some kind of escape, but his so-called friend just shook his head.
“You gotta face facts some time, Shuichi. You’re a heart-throb!”
“I don’t know what you mean…” Shuichi was finding that there was nowhere to hide his face and he cursed himself for letting Kaede talk him out of wearing his hat again.
“What about that girl who gave you chocolates?”
Oh, why had he told Maki that story?
“They were just for gratitude-”
“What about the guy who invited you on his yacht?”
Maybe asking his friends to help him out on cases all these years had been a mistake…
“That was to set up a trap for the-”
“The person who asked you out for dinner?”
Hghk.
“That was only to meet another contact-” “But then the contact didn’t show up and it was just the two of you.”
“They got in a car accident!”
What about the guy who pretended to be your husband on a plane? His own brain supplied rather unhelpfully.
*Bweeeeoop* *Bweeeeoop* *Bweeeeoop*
Shuichi had never been so grateful to hear an alarm sound off in his entire life.
Maki and Kaito stopped railing into him, looking around as if to see where the noise was coming from.
“I didn’t even know we had one of those…” Kaito muttered, barely audible over the continuing beep of the alarm. “I’m going to go ask someone what’s going on.” He declared, before storming off into a door marked ‘employees only.’
Maki, seemingly unperturbed by the sign, was about to follow him, but Shuichi grabbed her arm.
“Wait,” He said, retracing his own memory, “Come with me, please.”
“What?” She looked at him like he was crazy. “Where are you going?”
“Somewhere I’m more likely to get in a fight than Kaito…” Under scrutiny, Shuichi found that he didn’t recall seeing that group of suspicious tourists among the exhibits… They disappeared at the entrance, which was by the...
Shuichi started making a beeline for the gift shop, untying his coat and wrestling it onto his shoulders as he went.
“You two are so high maintenance…” Maki grumbled, following him nonetheless.
Sure, Shuichi had thought his gift shop theory was pretty on point, but when he got to the doorway of said gift shop the cartoonishly big mallet coming down over his head took him by surprise.
Maki grabbed him, pulling him back just in time. “Watch where you’re going, idiot.” She scolded him before grabbing the hammer and pulling it out of the hands holding it, which were the gloved hands of, you guessed it, a clown with a checkered scarf, standing over the doorway and poised to pounce.
This wasn’t one of the DICE members Shuichi recognized, but it seemed that they recognized him.
“What the hell is this guy doing here?” They called back into the shop, where Shuichi realized two other DICE members were shoving freeze dried ice cream into a bag, before diving down and trying to sweep Maki’s feet from under her. Maki jumped up and tried to use the gravity of her dodge to kick the clown in the head, but the clown rolled away, hopping back up, where Maki was waiting to meet them with their own mallet in the face.
Shuichi heard a sickening crack and the clown crumpled to the floor.
“Rook!” The leaner looking of the two members grabbing ice cream dropped his bag and ran up to help his friend.
“Maki!” Shuichi exclaimed, rather horrified at this level of violence, “They’re just thieves!”
“What?” Maki asked, unshaken. When she saw Shuichi’s expression, she blinked as if genuinely confused. Then she straightened up in a gesture that Shuichi recognized as sheepish even though her tone remained flat as she clarified, “That wasn’t the clown’s skull, it was the hammer.” She raised the big mallet to show him the end of it, which had popped off, “This is just a toy.”
“Yeah! That don’t mean it don’t smart, lady!” The one on the floor, ‘Rook’ if their friend was to be believed, waved off the other DICE member, rubbing their face under their mask.
“Was I talking to you?” Maki fixed the clown with her patented death glare, taking the stick of the broken mallet and twirling it into a fighting ready position like a bo staff.
“Where’s your boss?” Shuichi muttered aloud. “And the rest of you for that matter…” Maybe the gift shop was a distraction, it didn’t seem like the most attention had been given to it. Then again if there were something happening further inside the facilities then Kaito’s people were probably wise to it by now, so there might not be any point in wondering...
“I dunno, ask your mom!” The bearded DICE member standing next to ‘Rook’ threw something at him.
Maki acted quickly, hitting the object dead-on with the broken mallet handle before it could smack him in the face. It burst open, and by the time Shuichi realized it was a smoke bomb his eyes were already stinging from exposure.
“Gah!” He exclaimed, hiding his face in his arm to prevent himself from inhaling the smoke.
Maki, however, ignored the smoke, pressing forward into the gift shop.
Shuichi stayed back, blocking the doorway and tried to remember if he had seen an external entrance to the gift shop. The question was dismissed from his mind as he heard the clattering of shattering glass and remembered that these thieves had no qualms about making their own exits. When the smoke cleared, Shuichi saw that Maki was now holding the bag stuffed with freeze dried ice cream. She dropped it and started walking towards the wall of windows opposite to the entrance. She pulled back her hair and grabbed the side of the window like she was going to try and climb out the hole at the top, which the clowns seemed to have escaped out of.
Except… As Shuichi came up the steps from the entrance he didn’t see any clowns beyond the window. Remembering DICE’s knack for misdirection, Shuichi did a quick glance around the room and… There!
“Maki!” He called as he moved forward, “There’s a sliding door back by the register!”
It was open just a jar, and as Shuichi got closer he spotted the last DICE member vaulting over the balcony just outside.
Maki beat him to the door, sliding it open and hopping on the balcony. She paused for a second, then turned back to look at him. “Stay here.” She ordered, as if it had crossed her mind Shuichi might try to scale down the wall as well.
He would have found it weird that Maki would take the time to tell him something so obvious as ‘you would fall if you tried this,’ but Shuichi remembered what Maki had said to him before, about not wanting to be alone again. He nodded in an effort to reassure her. “Right, I’ll call the police.”
She seemed satisfied with this, turning around and shifting off the balcony to climb down the wall. Shuichi, in the meantime, pulled out his phone and called 110. The operator put him through to the Kukinaga substation, which was the Tanegashima police station only four minutes away from the space center. Shuichi reported what had happened, and the substation representative asked him to stay put to give a report to the officers when they arrived. He voiced acquiescence and thanked the representative before hanging up.
And then Shuichi was standing alone in a gift shop with broken glass and a bag full of freeze dried ice cream on the ground. He noticed some things he hadn’t before. For instance, it looked like the gift shop was partially divided into a sort of cafe, with a freezer full of purchasable food and tables by the windows to sit and eat. For some reason, he decided that sitting alone in a gift shop with broken glass and a bag full of freeze dried ice cream on the ground would be marginally better, so he pulled out one of the chairs, sitting at the table.
It was weird how much time Shuichi sat around, waiting for things to happen. Well, maybe less weird and more just plain old pathetic… He wasn’t really the action type like Maki and Kaito were. A lot of his work as a detective was done in the aftermath of events. He was usually only trying to figure out what had already happened. This whole DICE thing was a bit of a change of pace, requiring him to be able to predict the next course of events and perhaps even stop potential crimes. Except, well, maybe he wasn’t so good at that part of it… Today was pretty clear evidence of that. This gift shop robbery was obviously a ruse covering up some sort of bigger crime. Something similar had happened in Egypt, where in order to keep one room’s artifacts secure, Shuichi had to alert the actual museum security to take care of things. Except, had that really been the right choice? The entire museum besides the room Shuichi was in were rugless because he refused to take action. Shuichi knew that staying in this gift shop would prevent it from being robbed, but he had to weigh that against the great uncertainty of what was happening elsewhere right now. It just felt shitty, knowing he could do nothing right now but wait. It had been part of the reason being a detective had yucked him out when he was a teen. For a while he had been solving exclusively murder cases, which were the worst way to be reminded his job was usually only useful after the horrible things happen… Maybe working on the DICE case had felt good because so much of the work was preventative. Predicting where DICE would strike next always gave him the hope that the next time would be the last and it would all be thanks to him… How stupid…
A memory flashed through his head
“You’re really something else, Shuichi.” A face very close to his had said.
Maybe that was something else about the case that felt good. Chasing DICE’s leader had been light and exciting. A mystery less pursued out of a sense of requirement or needed justice, but rather because the mystery itself was genuinely intriguing. Shuichi had started out fearing that DICE may have had some sort of tie to organized crime or some sort of international conspiracy, but… After investigating into such ties and looking at all past robberies attributed to them, Shuichi had turned up nothing. It was almost comical how good these clowns were at going about their globetrotting crime-spree untraced. And it was weird that Shuichi kept crossing paths with them by almost complete happenstance. Sure, he had predicted their movements in DC, Paris, Reno, and Milan, but Egypt, Taipei, and now… Yeah, completely by chance. Unless… DICE weren’t following him, were they? No, there really would be no point to that at all… Hah, Shuichi was starting to see why Interpol suspected that he had ties with-
Oh, fuck. Interpol.
For about four minutes, Shuichi had forgotten how much trouble he was going to be in. --- [Log of Text Messages from Kaito Momota’s Cellular Device]

Ace: Hey, I know this is like a meme chat
Ace: But it's like the only one boss doesn’t have access to
Ace: And I wanted to know if anyone has noticed anything up with him?
Ace: Because I feel like he’s been kinda weird since we got the rocket
Queen: It’s not a rocket its an engine
Queen: In fact it’s actually only about 2/3s of an engine
King: What do you mean weird?
Queen: Rocket engines are built with mechanisms of fuel oxidization that won’t be strictly necessary for an aircraft that isn’t designed to operate in 0 ppm oxygen environments
Queen: So we’ll have to substitute it with an intake mechanism
Queen: Although the pre-existing combustion mechanism is EXQUISITE
Rook: No one cares queen
Queen: Its an important distinction
Hearts: Queen we have a channel for infodumping
Hearts: rn this channel is for gossiping about boss
Ace: He’s been quiet
Ace: Idk ive been worrying about it
King: Do you think it has to do with his injury?
Ace: Naw like
Ace: I feel like he was actin weird because of that before the space station
Ace: But now he’s actin weird a different way
Ace: Like before he seemed a little terse
Ace: And now he’s like catatonic in conversation
Queen: wym
Queen: I literally talked to him five seconds ago
Rook: no wait that is suspicious
Rook: if I were him I wouldn’tve just sat there and let you yap
Queen: oh shut up
Rook: MAKE ME
Ace: honestly i don’t know
Ace: but like you guys saw that detective guy there right
Ace: Do you think something happened with them that we didn’t see
King: What??
Jack: Oh you mean how boss definitely has a crush on him
King: What?????
Jack: Literally in Paris he dropped his entire 100 page plan just to go bully that guy
Jack: He’s like a middle schooler pulling pig tails
Hearts: Hmm… Hate to bring it down but pulling pigtails is a misogynistic notion that reinforces the normalization of violence against women...
Jack: It's true tho
Jack: My pigtails got pulled all the time because as you all know I am extremely attractive
Hearts: Maybe they were just bullying you darling
Spades: Yeah I can see that /s
Spades: Hey you know who really normalizes violence against women?
Spades: That detective guy
Spades: He flipped me in Milan!
Spades: Guy knows fucking aikido or some shit
Spades: And boss isn’t really a fan of violence
Rook: No wait
Queen: What? I thought he really liked yamikawaii shit
Rook: Even though that guy’s friend literally gave me a black eye
Spades: No I’m pretty sure he hates it
Rook: I see what Jack is saying
Rook: Boss totally has a thing for him
Rook: Like literally you can see the hearts pop into his eyes when he spots that guy
Rook: He dropped a display case on my foot when you told him the detective was in Cairo
Ace: Okay well thats not what I meant though
Jack: What you mean you don’t think he got his heart broken by aged up kid conan
Clubs: Conan’s name in his adult form is Shinichi Kudo.
Clubs: Also I think that talking behind Boss’s back is kind of not cool guys. :(
Spades: If you snitch I’m firing you from being my brother
Clubs: :(
Ace: I just meant like maybe he embarrassed himself platonically
Ace: Or I guess adversarially? Idk whatever word you would use for that
Queen: kismesissitude
Ace: What?
Spades: I will swiftly execute you
King: I mean i guess i could see him getting bent out of shape about that
King: But we were kinda onto the detective the whole time
King: I don’t think they would’ve had time to interact at all
Jack: Maybe he’s just sad he missed him
Ace: Ok sorry I don’t know if he’s sad
Ace: Just maybe in a weird mood
Ace: We haven't been in japan for a while and we haven't stuck around a place for more than a week in an even longer while
Ace: It’s putting me in a weird mood too so maybe that’s it
Hearts: Yeah he always likes to be on the move maybe he’s just antsy
King: Or maybe he feels bad cuz Rook got kinda beat up today?
King: I mean I feel bad about that
Rook: I’m okay <3
King: I know <3
Queen: Gross
Queen: You two are literally sitting right next to each other get a room
Bishop: He seems fine to me
Spades: Oh wow Bishop stopped scarfing for a second to weigh in...
Bishop: And by fine I mean terrible because he just dipped his pork dumpling in his panta right in front of me
Bishop: Also you guys know he can see you texting each other right
Bishop: We’re literally all eating at the same table rn
Queen: Oh yeah
Spades: Oops

Synopsis: The story is told through the eyes of Kazuko, the unmarried daughter of a widowed aristocrat. Her search for self meaning in a society devoid of use for her forms the crux of the novel. It is a sad story, and structurally is a novel very much within the confines of the Japanese take on the novel in a way reminiscent of authors such as Nobel Prize winner Yasunori Kawabata – the social interactions are peripheral and understated, nuances must be drawn, and for readers more used to Western novelistic forms this comes across as being rather wishy-washy. Kazuko’s mother falls ill, and due to their financial circumstances they are forced to take a cottage in the countryside. Her brother, who became addicted to opium during the war is missing. When he returns, Kazuko attempts to form a liaison with the novelist Uehara. This romantic displacement only furthers to deepen her alienation from society.

honeymoon
ahaha this scenario was supposed to be up last week but i got so lazy and i didn’t feel like reading everything over again and editing soo... hope you enjoy this late post !
plot: jungkook and (y/n) go on their honeymoon trip + a bunch of other fluffy things
also! you should really look up some pictures of bora bora and overwater bungalows if you don’t already know how they look like... since they’re absolutely beautiful and hopefully, they’ll help you imagine this scenario better :)
genre: fluff + slight suggestions (if you know what i mean hehehe)
word count: 1881
Tumblr media
This was too surreal.
You rolled over to your side to see Jungkook sleeping peacefully next to you. The sunlight shined through your curtains and hit the center of his face which made his features more evident. His hair was messy as an outcome of the tossing and turning he did in his sleep. You raised your hand to pet his hair. He must be really tired...
It was the day after your wedding and you were supposed to catch your flight to Bora Bora in a few hours for your honeymoon. After the wedding yesterday, you and Jungkook stayed in a hotel close to Incheon Airport so that you guys could comfortably get to the airport without a big hassle. He made sure to reserve a romantic luxury suite hotel room even though you weren’t staying for long... after all, he was aware of the events that were supposed to happen on couples’ wedding nights.
I can’t believe I’m gonna be able to wake up to this every single day. You smiled to yourself at that thought. You were happy... you were very happy.
As if Jungkook could feel your eyes staring at him, he woke up. He rubbed his eyes and after seeing your smile, his smile was slowly starting to appear. Gosh, I love him too much.
“Good morning Mrs. Jeon~,” he said in his attractive raspy morning voice... it was so weird to hear that coming out of his mouth-- Mrs. Jeon... wow, you would never have even imagined to be called that... but here you were.
“Good morning...” You couldn’t stop staring into his eyes.
“Are you sore?”
“A little... but it’s okay... it’ll get better... and besides, I’ll get used to it sooner or later,” you said as you smirked, suggestively.
Jungkook kissed your cheek and got out of bed. You followed his lead and made your bed before going to the bathroom to wash up.
“Hey... I thought you said you were only hurting ‘a little’... why does it look like you can’t even walk properly?” he said while laughing at you as he saw you struggling to walk to the bathroom.
“Shut up... this is all your fault.”
He laughed and turned around to start brushing his teeth. She’s so precious.
You and Jungkook arrived at Incheon Airport after eating breakfast and checking out of your hotel. You were waiting for our flight to your picture-perfect honeymoon destination-- Bora Bora. You guys had a really difficult time choosing where to go for your honeymoon since he wanted to go to a really romantic traveling spot like Paris but you were already very determined to go to Bora Bora.
“Why Bora Bora?” he asked you on multiple occasions. “I’ve been wanting to go to Bora Bora for my honeymoon since I was like 10 years old. Please please pleaseeeee can we go there? I’ve been planning it out since I was really little~” And with that, Jungkook couldn’t reject your pleas. It was your dream honeymoon location since you were a child--- he wanted to make your dreams come true.
“Thanks for choosing Bora Bora... you made my honeymoon dreams come true... literally.”
“I couldn’t resist... you were being too cute about it,” he said.
You’ve been waiting to board the plane for a two hours now and you still had another hour to wait... you were really bored. You put your head on Jungkook’s shoulder as he continued editing a GCF that he had filmed from his recent visit to America. You wanted to go duty-free shopping but because Jungkook seemed too focused on his editing, you decided not to bother him. You closed your eyes as you slowly but surely drifted off to sleep...
“(y/n)~ wake up... we have to board,” he said softly into your ear.
You woke up and realized that your head was still on Jungkook’s shoulder.
“Hmm? What’s happening?
“We’re boarding... come one... let’s go.” Jungkook got both of your carry on suitcases and you guys lined up to board the plane.
You got on the plane and found your seats without any issues. Jungkook’s parents booked your honeymoon flight and paid for the hotel that you would be staying at as their gift for your new future.
“Woww... I still can’t believe your parents got us business class seats... I have to call them again and thank them,” you said, amazed by the luxury of the plane.
Jungkook settled for the aisle seat, already knowing that you liked the window seat. Even though he liked the window seat as much as you did, he put you as his first priority... you were his wife after all.
You sat in your seat and took out our Cooky neck pillow and Jungkook giggled in response.
“Ahaha when did you even get that?”
“It’s a secret~” you said as you straightened out the pillow. “I got it a while ago as my substitute for your shoulder... for when it wasn’t available.”
“Well... then you might as well throw that pillow away... since my shoulder is always going to be available for use from now on... since I’m always going to be right here... next to you.”
You took off your neck pillow, put it on your lap, and laid you head on his shoulder instead. I could stay like this forever...
After 20 hours of flying...(yes... it really took 20 hours to get to Bora Bora), you were exhausted and ready to get off the airplane. I mean, you loved the plane and the service, but 20 hours of sitting on your butt really took a toll on the both of you.
After finding your luggage, going through all the security, and managing to find a taxi, you were finally here— your dream destination. The “hotel” in Bora Bora was actually just a huge chain of over-water bungalows and you were absolutely in love with them. They were the same ones that you had seen in pictures and you were super excited to stay in them.
You entered your luxury bungalow and you were impressed from the very beginning. Right when you walked through the entrance, you saw an amazing view of the clear, turquoise ocean. In the middle of the room, there was clear glass so that you could see the water underneath you. There were two rooms with one master bedroom that had an extended balcony with a small jacuzzi. I’m living my best life.
You took your luggage to the master bedroom and immediately laid on the bed in the master bedroom.
“AHHH!!! I’m so happy~” you exclaimed as Jungkook walked over to you.
He was happy to see how ecstatic you were and he ready to spend all of his time with you for the next week at this beautiful island.
“Ooh! We should go snorkeling! It says here that we can rent snorkeling gear from the hotel for an hour!” you suggested as you looked through the pamphlet that you grabbed from the front desk a while ago.
“AND there’s a free lunch and dinner buffet! Ahhh I’m in love with this place already~” Clearly, you were extremely happy.
Jungkook had originally wanted to stay indoors today and take a nap with you but seeing how energized and eager you were, he decided to follow your lead and let you do whatever you wanted... he was contented as long as you were smiling.
“Hello??? Jeon Jungkook-ssi~ are you listening to me?” He spaced out while he was thinking about her.
“Hm?”
“I said I’m gonna go change so that we can go snorkeling... are you in orrr?”
“Ahah of course i’m in... let’s go.” And with that, your honeymoon began.
“Can we have two snorkeling masks please?” you asked the front desk.
They have you two masks and you skipped over to Jungkook who was on his phone, texting his parents that you guys had arrived safely and that you were thankful for the beautiful hotel that they had booked.
“Are you ready?”
He nodded his head in response and put his phone away. You put your arm around his arm as you walked to the beach to begin your snorkeling adventures. You didn’t really know how to snorkel since you’ve never done it before so you watched Jungkook as he dove into the clear water and and started swimming to a nearby coral reef that he saw.
“(y/n)! Come on~” he said as he gestured for you to come to him.
You stepped into the water and put on your snorkeling mask and tried to see if it worked. How do you work this? You put your mouth on the mouthpiece and tested it out by breathing through your mouth and you were really shocked when you were able to breathe.
Now that you were knew how to use the snorkeling mask, you swam to Jungkook and looked underwater to see a bunch of colorful fish that were swimming near the coral reef.
“Wahhh Jungkook-ah... are you seeing this?” You felt like you were in another world.
You guys snorkeled for about an hour and since Jungkook could see that you were getting tired from all the swimming, he decided that it was a good time to tell you that you guys should return to your room. Since you couldn’t see him because your back was turned towards another direction, he decided to sneak up on you and scare you.
Jungkook swam cautiously and when he was starting to get closer to your figure, he grabbed your legs from underneath and pulled you so that you were under the water. After you resurfaced, you saw Jungkook laughing hysterically and you splashed water in his direction out of annoyance.
“Jeon Jungkook! Ahhh! I knew this would happen sooner or later... now I have water in my nose...” you said as he continued laughing.
“I’m sorry... I had to do it... you looked like such an easy target.”
You turned your back around in order to try to convey your annoyance and he walked over to you to give you a back hug and kissed your cheek. You couldn’t stay mad at him... he was being too cute.
You turned around to face him again and he gave you another kiss on your lips. He smiled at you took you hand so that you guys could walk out of the water and go back to your room.
It was night. You and Jungkook had decided to skip the dinner buffet and order room service... you were exhausted from the flight and the snorkeling. After dinner, you went into your jacuzzi; you were reclined so that you were in front of him and your back was against Jungkook’s bare chest. You were staring out into the ocean with the moon shining brightly above you. This is truly paradise.
“(y/n),” he said.
“Mhm...”
“Thank you for marrying me... I feel like the happiest man in the world... literally.”
You stayed silent as you listened to his words intently.
“(y/n), I love you. So so so much. And I will never stop loving you. Never forget that.”
We were meant for each other, Jungkook. And I will always love you too... forever and ever.

the end of a journey
And that wraps up my collection posts for this trip. How time has flown by…
As always, I like to do a final post in which I look back on my travelling, before I close this blog until my next trip. I am going to do that this time as well, but my reflections on Okinawa will be slightly different than expected, as in the early morning of October 31, the main buildings of Shuri Castle were destroyed in a fire. Thankfully there were no human casualties, but the loss of the castle cuts deep for Okinawa, and it would feel odd to just cheerily babble about visiting the castle without touching upon what happened a mere 4 weeks later (to the day, I now realize).
I uh, might have postponed this entry so that I could pretend I didn’t have to close the chapter of this trip, haha. But with my photo album done, all that’s left is my final words.
Now without further ado, the final post for Japan 2019!
One would think that after eight previous trips, another flight to Japan would feel like routine, but the start was already different since I needed a domestic flight transfer. However, being able to see the islands of Okinawa from the plane awed me, and definitely set the tone for my enjoyment of the main island. I arrived with fairly high expectations, and I got to say that Okinawa more than delivered. Although I confess it was slightly odd to stay along the Kokusaidori main street, as it’s so touristic and feels like a shopping street in Tokyo, but it still has its own Okinawan flavor. And I was so close to the ocean! I couldn’t believe how quickly I reached the shores, and even with a highway road above my head, it was great to trail through the water on my day of arrival.
Visiting Shuri Castle was on the top of my wish list, so I did that right on my first full day. Reading about the beautiful reconstructions and seeing the pictures definitely didn’t hold up to the real thing, and I could only admire the love and dedication that had gone into reconstructing this centuries old castle. It felt so completely different from the other Japanese castles, which it of course is, but I hadn’t expected to feel that so acutely. You could definitely tell how proud the people here were of the castle, and I can only hope that those whose livelihoods depended on the castle can get by now. It still feels surreal to think that the buildings are no longer there. There are logistical problems for rebuilding, although I don’t doubt they will get there in the end. It burnt down before, and rose from the most terrible of ashes. It will likely take decades, but considering how big a symbol this place is, there will definitely be something new. I do confess I kind of skipped war memorials during this trip to Okinawa, but the scars of the Battle of Okinawa was visible everywhere; and yet it was also noticeable how the people have come back from it. I can only hope their spirit will continue from hereon too and that this symbol will rise again.
Of course, I had no idea while I was there what would happen four weeks later, but I’m glad in retrospect that I took my time and uh, took as many pictures as I did. Nearby Tamaudun Mausoleum impressed me deeply as well, although I must confess that was due to the full package: the castle and the history and the mausoleum together, plus the pathway leading up to the building was short but absolutely lovely.
After that, I saw so many sights. I climbed the mountain to find Nakagukusu castle, where I had a blast feeling like I was in some weird limbo between a gothic European castle in ruins with crows flying by and, well, a subtropical island, with beautiful blue seas on both sides. Weirdly, it really looked like only the castle was clouded that day, as the sun was shining on both sea sides, but it just added to the atmosphere.
I went from super touristic but cheerful Okinawa World with its gorgeous caves to the genuine and wonderful museum, teaching me so much more about the islands, explored gorgeous gardens, and to top it all off, I got to spend a day on Tokashiki island, which really was the icing on an already delicious cake. The weather was lovelier than I could have even hoped for, the views were amazing, and I was honestly jealous of myself while I was there. This really was the picture perfect ‘tropical holidays’ right from the travel brochure, and although I think I’d get bored of it if I were to spend a whole week just chilling on the beach, it was an amazing way to end my week down south. Not to mention the submarine ride! I’m really glad I was tenacious and eventually lucked out and got on, because I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. It’s one thing to see coral reefs on tv or in an aquarium, but seeing them in the wild is awe inspiring. Luckily the Kerama Islands (which Tokashiki is the biggest of) are a national park and under protection, and I can only hope that we can all protect amazing sights like these all around the globe.
After a week of exploring something completely new, it was time to return to an old friend: Fukuoka, which I had stayed in for a week back in 2015. I had fond memories of staying there, and this week didn’t disappoint. The flight was so relaxed I would almost say I got rid of my fear of flying (not entirely, but it definitely diminished from here on), and then it was time to explore the places I had missed out on before! It was my first time seeing a typical conical and active volcano, and Sakurajima definitely didn’t disappoint. Karatsu had caught my eye in recent years, and I’m so happy I went there, because I had a delightful day and I was thoroughly charmed by this city. Beppu was highly touristic, but I had a good time exploring the hells anyway, and I’m easily amused, so getting to say ‘I went to hells and back’ won’t get old soon. The typhoon made me stay in Fukuoka for a day since I didn’t want to risk getting stranded, but I don’t regret it one bit as I finally got to see Kushida shrine in the sun and had a blast in Canal City. It was safe enough to go to Yoshinogari Historical Park next, and wow, there was so much to see and do that I definitely have to go back here sometime. And hey, I got to be crafty and made a mirror! I’m still unreasonably proud.
With the weather continuing to smile down on me, I hit Okayama next, where I finally got to dress up as a princess in the castle (I’m easily pleased) and saw the sights we sadly had to miss out on last year due to floods. Gorgeous sights and castles greeted me as I finally got to see more of Shikoku, and although I am definitely a bit weary of temples now (sorry, Onomichi), the views over the Inland Sea continue to impress. The weather was exceedingly kind to me and gave me blue skies over all castles, and so I happily checked off number 7 on the list of 12 original castle towers still remaining. Past the halfway point! I do love castles, haha.
My luck hadn’t run out yet as on my final day in Okayama, KOKIA was performing in Osaka. It was just an hour away from Okayama, the closest I was to Osaka the entire trip, so that left enough time to visit Universal Studios beforehand. And of course, seeing KOKIA live is always a magical experience (which is a nice bridge from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter I guess, haha). I’ve said it before, but even live recordings and DVDs can’t compare to the live experience, and I feel so privileged and blessed that this is my seventh time (!) getting to see her live. And this was my third time in a row getting to meet her for an autograph! I might get spoiled at this rate, haha. It was wonderful to hear songs from all those years ago as well as some newer favorites.
And although I hadn’t been looking forward to the long trip to Tokyo, this was in fact a very relaxed experience. I had so much leg space that my suitcase in front of me was no big bother, and the seats next to me stayed empty anyway. Getting back to Tokyo, and more specifically Ikebukuro, felt like coming home again, and I enjoyed soaking into the familiar sights (and uh, shopping, I have to admit).
This was the only part of my trip where I actually noticed the typhoons that had blown over or were on their way. Japan has taken quite the battering this year, with typhoons forming very late into the season, being more powerful than ever, with Hagibis being the tragic record. It had given me quite the scares, but all it really meant for me was a few windy days, two days of rain on 4 weeks total, and making it risky to leave Tokyo for the mountainous areas. The people here have suffered far more. I can only hope they recover well from this natural violence and that they can catch a break for a while.
Anyway, you can easily dump me in Tokyo for months on end and I will still have a great time. This city is so massive and there are plenty of places worth a second (or third, or ninth) visit, so it’s hard to imagine I’d ever get bored here. And since many of the series and games I like hail from Japan, I definitely took the chance to stock up on merchandise and go to cafés to let out my inner fangirl. Look, I grew up on Pokémon, I’m not gonna ignore the chance to have dinner with Pikachu. Rainy days aren’t so bad if you get to spend them in a museum so big that even a full day is barely enough to see everything, and I got to spend some extra days with my friend on top of it.
I have to admit I felt a bit bad about not using my JR pass much in that last week except for the Yamanote line, but that in no way diminished how much fun I had, and I confess to having cried a couple of times in my final days in Tokyo due to my impending return home. Of course, going on holidays is different from living somewhere, but I still feel like a piece of me was left behind in Japan way back in 2010, and so it hurts to part every time. That might sound dramatic, but that metaphor does explain why I feel so strongly about it.
The flight back gave me one last treat with the Fuji showing up through the clouds, marking the first time in all those flights when I actually got to see it from the plane. Sadly the picture I took on my phone isn’t super crisp, but it’s the best I could do at the moment, and really, there’s something about that mountain you can’t quite catch on camera anyway. The flight was calm and hardly affected my nerves, and though I didn’t sleep much, I managed to get home safe and sound without even falling asleep on the train or bus.
Of course, the jetlag was waiting for me with a big ol’ hammer, and it took a while for me to recover. A bit longer than expected, actually, although I suspect part of that was caused by just how much I’ve seen and done over those past 4 weeks. Look at how long this entry is getting, and I barely even touched on some days and impressions! I can’t believe I got to check off my entire list of places to visit until I got to Tokyo. I hadn’t thought my body could handle it, but I was pleasantly surprised, and I definitely feel in a better condition than ever. Seeing all these wonderful sights for sure invigorated me, so I don’t doubt it helped, but the relative ease with which I climbed those mountains also surprised me. Not that I’m complaining!
And that brings me back home. I’ve had two weeks to recover now, and I think my body has adjusted to being back in the Netherlands again. I’ve collected all my reports from this blog (and have apparently done NaNoWRiMo writing challenge a month early, as I surpassed 50,000 words written in a month, oops), my photos have been sorted out, I’ve put together a photo book for the collection, and… well, all that’s left is closing off this blog until the next trip. That won’t be this year anymore, haha, no more last-minute Christmas trips to Tokyo! Although I won’t deny it’s tempting, but I’d rather take the time to plan out my trip for next time.
I don’t know when that will be. Part of me really wants to see the cherry blossoms, but it’s a busy season, so I should be looking into flights and hotels already if I am set on doing so next year. Summer 2020 is out, though. I’d rather avoid the height of summer in Japan if at all possible, and well, with the Olympics and Paralympics next year, I think Japan really doesn’t need any more tourists in the mix, haha. So, who knows! I’ll have to wait and see where next year takes me, although I’d love to return to Japan as soon as possible. I still haven’t visited Hokkaido, after all, and I did plan out a lot of day trips from Tokyo that I didn’t get to do now.
I keep saying it, but I don’t think I’ll ever be done with Japan. Despite hardships, I am so happy I decided to study its language and culture, over a decade ago now. It really broadened my horizons, allowed me to meet new people, and introduced me to an immensely interesting country. Although I’m far from fluent (I really need to pick up my study books and at least increase my vocabulary, yikes), it still really helped finding my way here and getting in touch with people. Of course, I saw everything through a tourist’s eye, but I do my best to read up on the places I visit and get a better sense of the culture and history through first hand experience. Speaking the language to a degree definitely helps with that.
And so, I will now close this blog again until my next trip, which hopefully won’t take too long. Whether it’ll be a short hop over to Tokyo or a longer cross-country travel remains to be seen, but I can’t wait to find out!
Thank you for sticking with this blog and for reading all that in case you made it here, and see you soon!

Love Thy Neighbor (part 5)
Was just reading through part 4, and wow the spelling mistakes!! I read through this several times so it shouldn’t be as bad, so this chapter is super cute with a little under the table action;) Enjoy ladies and gents!!!!
****************************************************************************************************
It was summer time in England, you had been spending basically all of your free time with the band. Sleep was not even a thing anymore, the boys had you up till dawn then you would stagger into work and come home and do it all over again. Concerts, events, dinners, move premiers, tv interviews. You were inner circle which meant you went to almost everything you could.
“Darling what are you doing the week of your birthday? And don’t lie saying you’re working because I saw your calendar and it says vacation.”
You were out to eat with Freddie and the rest of the boys.
“I was just gonna hang out have a quiet week……why are you looking at me like that?”
He was looking at you with a smirk and bright squinting eyes.
“You like the beach right? I was thinking Sao Paulo?”
“Freddie I don’t know about that.”
Freddie still had that look of “I know something and you don’t” on his face.
“Lacey, were going to be there for a week and we already added you to the flight and everything……..”
 John whispered to you.
 “You did not.”
“Darling I’m just trying to help you out, your terribly pale and you need some sun, also we all know you love the beach you’ve told us countless times, so what better place to ring in 24! Plus I’m bringing Marry, you two get along well.”
 “Freddie I can’t………”
“Yes you can actually, and you will. I will force your tight ass on that plane, or should I get Rog to do that?”
 Roger chuckled.
“No please don’t, If I agree, and that’s IF, I want to pay for my own flight and my own room.”
“Oh, darling, everything is already booked, no need to take separate flights, who’s gonna keep dear old Roger entertained on that flight? Certainly not me. It has to be you.”
You chugged your whole beer at this point stressing on how you were going to pay Freddie back for this. The thought of you lounging on the beach sounded so nice. Work had been crazy, your boss was working you extra hard ever since your co worker quit. Doing double the work and trying to keep up with the boys was exhausting. Going to shows, photographing them before and after shows, just being with them was always so tiring since they were always so energetic.
“I see wheels turning in her curly haired head, I think we got her.”
 Freddie said excitedly.
“Ok, I’ll go, but only for the view, and because I can’t leave poor Marry alone with you guys for a whole week. No telling the paps where were going, or making a big deal of my birthday, it’s just 24, nothing to fuss about.”
Freddie had a bad habit when he was drunk to call the press and say we were all going to be someplace, all those lights were enough to blind anyone. It made you uncomfortable to be the one people are taking pictures of, you preferred to be behind the lens.
It was the night before you were to leave, sleep did not come easy, you got maybe 2 hours before you heard the pounding of Rogers fists on your door, you jumped up from bed in just a t shirt and un locked the door for him.
“Good morning to you too, excited are we?”
You poured yourself a drink, something you often did now to tolerate Roger’s cockiness. You gulped it down fast. Roger was on your couch looking through your sketch book, invading your privacy per usual.
“I swear English people have no sense of privacy, please do just look through my stuff, have a drink, smoke my whole carton of cigs……”
Roger laughed, which put a slight smile on your face. He came over and kissed you lightly on the lips.
 “Calm down…..”
He kissed you a few more times, before you pulled away.
 “I don’t like to fly, I’m nervous.”
“Stick with me kid, you’ll be fine.”
“Roger I’m like three years younger than you, please stop with the kid jokes.”
You walked down the hallway to get dressed, for once Roger didn’t follow.
 “Ok, I’m ready.”
Roger grabbed your bags, and out the door you went. He was holding your hand all the way to the airport and when you got onto the plane, you downed another drink. Roger sat next to you, immediately intertwining your hand with his and he brought it up to his mouth and kissed your hand. Such a simple act but so needed. You heard a camera click and knew it was Brian, you looked at him and he just winked at you, with a wide smile on his face.
“You’ll do fine love, it’s a long flight, but you’ll sleep through most of it
You yawned as Deaky told you how long you’d be stuck on this plane with 4 guys plus their whole team. You should just sleep, your gonna need it, Freddie will have you at full party mode the whole time. That’s 7 days of full force Freddie in your face.
Your eyes fluttered open and noticed you were covered in a blanket, you moved it off you and straightened up, hearing your back crack.
 “How much longer?”
You looked across from you at John, he looked at his watch.
 “About 8 hours?”
You smiled in relief knowing that you were almost half way there and got up to get a drink, you decided to sit next to John for the rest of the flight. You were telling him about your first beach trip that you remembered as a child.
“I was about 6 I think and my brother spent the whole day playing catch with my dad, my mom had just gotten me my first camera so I was everywhere taking pictures of everything, mom was reading the whole day under the umbrella.”
 John was smiling at you.
“How did the pictures come out?”
“Oh they were trash, I had no sense of angel or lighting back then, the only picture that came out decent was one my mom took, it was of me building a sand castle. I still have that one.”
“I’m sure they weren’t trash! I’m sure they were all lovely.”
 “John they were trash.”
“How come you don’t go to the beach more often? If you love it so much.”
John was facing you and reading your face.
“Um, my mom got sick shortly after and I just never wanted to go without her, she always helped me find the best sea shells, and it never really feels right to go without her ya know?”
John frowned, and patted your leg.
“Were gonna find the best sea shells ever, don’t you worry love.”
You let a few tears fall down your face but you smiled when he said that.
“Yea we are! Sorry I’m never really like this when I talk about her.”
Johns hand reached out and wiped the tears away.
“Hey don’t apologize she must have been an amazing woman!”
You took a deep breath and nodded.
 “Darling are you ok?”
Freddie asked, he had just sat down across from you.
 “My dear what’s going on?”
Brian knew about your mom and how she passed. You had told him one day when you were with him developing some pictures. He must have overheard the conversation you had been having with John, he came up next to you.
“Freddie, she’s fine she just woke up from a nap that’s all.”
Brian was next to you with his hand on your shoulder. You nodded and wanted to cry more. Turning another year older without her here was just never easy.
 “What’s going on?”
You turned your head to see Roger.
 “Love are you ok?”
His hand cupped your face, you gave him a smile even though you were fighting back tears. Too many emotions. This is so unlike you, normally you just push it aside but you can only do that for so many years. He kissed you lightly on the lips, he’s never done that before in front of the boys, mostly just small gestures of pda.
“Yea I’m fine, it’s just, this plane ride is dragging on, I really need to get on some solid land, ya know?”
You chuckled but you felt a few tears fell, Roger wiped them away. But he didn’t push you any further. You pushed past everyone and found an empty seat and just closed your eyes and took a few breaths and decided to draw. You heard someone sit next to you. It was Brian.
“I heard you and Deaky, I’m sure it’s rough this time of year, but I’m here and now that John knows he’ll be there to talk as well, don’t be sad though, you’re going to have a great time this week! We have a few surprises for you, so keep that chin up love!”
Brian was so cheery you couldn’t help but smile.
“Thanks Bri, I appreciate it. A lot. I think I’m just gonna try to get some more sleep.”
He nodded at you and grabbed a book.
You were awoken when you heard the wheels screech, you smiled knowing you were going to get off this plane soon.
“Look at that, were on solid land!”
Roger interrupted and you smiled at him. You laughed at how excited he looked looking out the tiny window.
2 hours later you entered a villa, with the most beautiful view you have ever seen. Nothing but the ocean, extending for thousands of miles. You were smiling while leaning on the railing of the balcony. All you could do is smile, as you closed your eyes and listened to the waves and the birds squawk.
“Guys come here, you have to look at this!”
They all came out one by one, you told them to close their eyes and just listen.
“Thank you again for letting me tag along for this.”
“Lacey, you should travel with us more often, you’ll get to see views like this every day.”
 John spoke.
 “Maybe one day.”
“Dear, let me escort you inside the room with the best view of the sea, it’s also the biggest room, so you can fit all the ladies and gentleman you want in their!”
You blushed while Freddie had his hand on the small of your back and lead you to your room. He was not fucking around either, it was huge! A bed that could fit at least 10 people, with a canopy. A full living room set complete with a tv, the bathroom was all white marble, a huge bath tub a walk in shower, and the best part the French doors that led to the balcony.
“All you have to do is open the curtains and the sea is right there, best view, just for you darling.”
You were in shock that you were actually in Sao Paulo, being surrounded by such luxury was not something you were used to, everything in here must cost a fortune, you were so thankful to have friends like these.
“I, I don’t even know how to even begin to thank you guys, I’m super overwhelmed by all of this……”
You kissed Freddie on the cheek, and he returned the gesture but with a little slap on your ass.
 “I’m starving, anyone else hungry?”
 John spoke, looking at everyone.
“Yea I’m hungry as well now that you mention it!”
Everyone made their way to their rooms to get changed, per Freddie’s request, we all had to put our best ensemble together. You chose a long red strapless dress, very beachy. You sat down on one of the chairs on the balcony and waited for everyone.
“Wow, Lacey you never cease to amaze me”
Roger sat down next you on the long beach chair, his sun glasses low on his nose as he stared at you. You looked at him, long, tight black dress pants, sparkly shoes, and just a black vest on. You reached for the buttons on his vest and un buttoned them.
 “You look fantastic as well.”
“I thought I liked you in black but red might be my new favorite color.”
You smiled and got up to lean against the balcony railing, the sun was setting and it was blinding. You need a picture of Roger and the sunset.
“Roger stay there I’ll be right back.”
You walked into your room and came back out with your polaroid. You grabbed the sun glasses off of Rogers face and put them on so you could see what angel you were getting. You pushed him up against the balcony railing.
“Lacey what the fuck are you doing?”
“I’m about to take a fantastic picture, now just look natural…….no, Rog don’t posing just stand there and look at me….. please.”
He put his arms against the railing and smirked at you. His eyes looked next level, the orange and red burnt sky behind him really made his blue eyes pop. That was it, that’s the shot.
 “Am I your muse?”
You chuckled at him and gave him his sunglasses back.
 “I guess so”
“Alright Lacey give me the camera, it’s your turn.”
You shook your head as to say no, but Roger was persistent, he pushed you up against the railing and just stared at you, then his lips crashed with yours, so needy so hungry. You didn’t even realize he grabbed the camera out of your hands. You pouted when his lips left yours, he smiled and pecked them once more.
“Alright love, no posing, just stand there and look at me.”
He smirked at you, once again stealing your own words.
“Roger I really don’t like people taking photos of me, it’s not my thing.”
“Well love, you’re my muse now…...you’re so beautiful Lacey, please?”
You were blushing, so you stood their same pose as Roger did, expect you smiled the biggest smile you have in a while because Roger was doing the same to you. He took the picture and he immediately put it in his back pocket.
“I’m sorry are we interrupting something? Because we can totally hold off on dinner if you two wanna fuck real quick?”
 “Honestly Freddie, fuck off”
Roger said harshly while still looking in your direction.
“No Freddie you’re not interrupting anything, let’s go eat.”
You winked at Roger and grabbed the camera from his hand while you were passing him, he grabbed your other hand and out the 5 of you went.
“Lacey, what are you in the mood for? Steak, salad, pasta, Rogers co…”
Freddie liked to stir up shit so you stopped him before he could.
“Well Freddie, I’m a vegetarian so no steak for me. I’m going with this grilled chicken, and as for Roger, I did not know he was on the menu.”
Rogers hand squeezed your thigh. Your breath hitched in your throat, you definitely needed to have a few drinks to get through this dinner. Rogers hand wanted under your dress, and you were not about to let that happen. You were already flustered by Roger kissing you earlier, and now the thought of his fingers pumping in and out of you was making you flush.
“Darling, are you ok, you look flustered, is dear Roger playing with you?”
 Fucking Freddie.
“Freddie I have no idea what your talking about……stop looking at me like that.”
Freddie winked at you then smirked at Roger. Rogers left hand started to gather your dress so he could gain access. He leaned over to your ear.
“I’m gonna do this and you’re not going to make a fucking noise, got it.”
Holy fuck, right here at dinner with the boys around, Freddie is going to catch on if you don’t keep a straight face. But you nodded and unclutched your thighs, spreading them slightly for him, your pushed your chair closer to Roger so his movements wouldn’t be as noticeable.
“So Lacey, Brian tells me you play the piano? You have to play for us.”
You glared at Bri, you told him one night that you used to play when you were younger, but not so much anymore.
“I don’t play as often as I used to.”
Just then Rogers middle finger entered you and you let out a sigh, holy fuck it’s been a while since you’ve had him this close. Then his pointer finger, both of them curling up inside you, your left hand came down and grasped his thigh. Roger laughed as your hand kept gripping his thigh.
“I want you to play something for us tomorrow at rehearsals.”
“If I say yes will you let me finish eating my dinner in peace?”
Rogers thumb now circling your clit.
“I want a whole set of you performing Journey songs, warm up that voice of yours love, I wanna hear it.”
Roger was looking at you square in the face, you needed to distract him, you needed his fingers to stop, you knew that when you did cum it would be messy. You wanted this but not now, not so public.
“Oh no….I don’t sing, I’ll play the piano and Freddie can sing for me.”
You were starting to squirm when Roger added a third finger, how dare he try to have a normal conversation with you while his fingers are inside of you.
“Really, I’d love to hear that sweet American voice of yours sing.”
Rogers fingers slowly going in and out of you, wow you needed relief.
 “I’m all good, really!”
Your hand went under the table and stopped Rogers hand, you were done. You needed him inside you not his hands.
