Deeply affectionate despite not wanting to come off as too smothering. She likes to think she's slick when she brushes against you, always sits next to you, and gets you things that remind her of you when she's out. Whenever she catches herself in the act and gets embarrassed, prepared to be met with ramblings of, "What? I can't say hello?", "Is it wrong to be caring?".

B - Beauty: What do they find beautiful? What do they look for?

Feel like she likes intelligent, meek people. Watched some really horrible stereotypical TV show with Jon or something and found the nerdy characters cute. Especially likes it when someone who is usually reserved is still able to take initiative, very specific but she likes it. Curly hair !! I feel like she finds curly hair really beautiful. She also loves locs with pretty beads, she finds them super pleasing to hear.

C - Cuddles: What kind of cuddler are they? Do they like cuddles?

You will never, EVER get her to verbally state that she likes cuddling, ask her and she'll scoff thinking that's a legitimate answer to your question.

But catch her when she's sleepy and see just how easily she melts against you. When she's awake still her hold on you is featherlight.. until she falls asleep. Then pray to the gods that she doesn't crush you in her tight bear hugs.

Is that even a question? Yara is unapologetically sincere in how she holds herself, and if she's willing to share herself with you then you gotta be pretty damn important to her.

With Yara you are blessed with the utmost assurity that wherever she ventures, and wherever she finds herself, she's still your Yara. She may not be explicitly forthright with her loyalty, but she doesn't have to be. She's a solid person in your life.

E - Embrace: How do they hug?

If you're taller than her she goes for the midriff or the neck, shorter and she'll embrace you around your shoulders. She's the type to sway a bit if the hug is long. She's the type to catch you off guard with how staggering her hugging can be.

F - Flaws: What are some of their faults?

Yara is stubborn to a fault, which is either good or bad depending on the situation.

She tends to have plans and goals that she will stick to no matter what, which makes it hard to collaborate with her.

G - Gentle: How gentle are they?

She tries to be gentle for the sake of others, a sense of responsibility over herself, both physically and emotionally she tries.

H - Honesty: How honest are they about what they don't like and what they do?

Pretty dang honest. If you're someone from the Justice League it's a no from her on the dating scene. She can be seen as an occasionally blunt person but she's good with her words.

On the other end she's honest about what she does like too.

I - I love you: How long does it take for them to say it?

I'm stuck between thinking she could go a while without saying it, or immediately say it to you unabashed after like a couple weeks. There's like no in-between.

J - Jealousy: How jealous are they?

It's not that she's jealous it's just that why should she keep silent about how you're her partner? Especially to strangers that don't seem to be getting the hint?

Aside from that though she's not painfully jealous, but she will put someone in their place it she has to.

K - Kisses: How are they as a kisser?

Yara is something else, one part of her has you convinced she's never kissed anyone in her life, and the other part has you believing she's the goddess of kisses.

Deep, feverish kisser, the type to leave you dizzy from it. Her warm hands cradling your skin as her lips plaster onto yours and even that's not enough. Does it until sbe leaves you breathless.

L - Little Ones: Do they want kids?

Not anytime soon, Yara still has adventures far ahead of her to think about kids.

M - Mornings: How are mornings spent with them?

Can't really tell who's the first to wake up, but Yara's usually the one to get up first. She brings you and herself something to drink as you sit in bed, washing away your drowsiness and planning for the day ahead between soft mutterings. Mornings with Yara is liken to bathing under sunbeams.

N - Nervousness: What gets them nervous? What are they scared about when it comes to the relationship?

She's scared that she's too out of sync with other people, that due to her rather unique parentage and upbringing that there's a disconnect between her and others. It's harder to notice among the Future State JL because well, they're like her. But she's not fond of being tied down to such a team anyways.

O - Openness: How open are they?

Generally a pretty open person, she has her secrets (like where she stashes extra snacks for Jerry) but none that are malicious or that would put the relationship in jeopardy.

P - Patience: How patient are they?

Yara... Isn't the most patient person. Those types that tap their foot and look around to find something to distract them from the time, that's Yara.

She can be quick to anger but not with her relationships, mostly at the misgivings of others.

Q - Quiet Moment: Share a quiet moment

She takes you flying on Jerry in the afternoon, waiting for the sun to set as the two of you take in the flowing wind and the beauty of the world that's now so small in your eyes. Such an occasion would usually warrant laughter and cheers loud enough to hurt your throats, but in this moment, it's nothing short of euphoric.

R - Romance: How romantic are they?

OhohohOOOOOO... She's a mess. Tries to impress you and make you swoon over her and she's a little rusty, but it's hard to say that to her when she's beaming at you as though you're the reason for worship. The sun and moon. When she's not trying so hard to woo you, and does her own thing from the sincerity in her heart, she has you smitten.

S - Support: How do they support their s/o? Are they protective?

She's willing to go above, beyond, and below (coughcough the Underworld) for you. Yara knows what it's like to fail to protect others, so she's so devoted to your safety and wellbeing.

T - Try: How much effort do they put into the relationship?

Yara's swept with puppy love and then some when it comes to the relationship at first. She puts in a lot of effort.

U - Unspoken Words: What do they wish they could say?

She wishes she could say how much you mean to her without wanting to cringe at how sappy she is.

V - Vulnerability: How do they show vulnerability?

She doesn't, doesn't try to at least. But you can tell with the way her body relaxes at the sight of you, when her hand searches for just a bit of you to ground herself in, to commit to her memory the touch of your skin. You kinda have to figure it out based on visual cues, because the words die in her throat when she has you near.

W - Whole: Would they feel incomplete without their s/o?

She'd definitely feel crushed if you were in a relationship for a while, but she'd be able to move forward, even if her heart hurts.

X - XOXO: What's a loving gesture you should expect from them?

Expect get-away's, it helps Yara and she hopes it helps you, the two of you don't even have to do anything. Once or twice a week Yara just brings food and takes you somewhere to be alone. Being a member of the Justice League can require her to prioritize the job over most things, but you're still important to her and she will make it apparent.

Y - Yearning: How much do they miss their s/o?

More than she'd like to admit. Whenever she gets a little bit of quiet time between the work she does, her mind automatically thinks of you.

Disaster (Nicky Harper x Reader) (Fluff)

Summary: Just a bunch of wholesome fluff cuz I don’t really feel comfortable writing smut for Nicky even if I age him up (reading it however… anyway). I already felt like I was thin ice with my aged up Five Hargreeves smut. Especially since Nicky only got to about 13/14 years old on the show so that’s how old he is in all the gifs I could use of him (unless I were just using a current photo of Aidan but I digress) (Aidan’s only two months younger than me irl so don’t cancel me plz). I imagine the reader and the quads to be about 19 in this fic cuz I personally am about to turn 19 but you can choose whatever age you like. This is a song fic of Conan Gray’s Disaster cuz I’m honestly still a little fried from last night writing this and woke up with Disaster stuck in my head and I’m kinda totally in love with Nicky/Aidan/Five again lol and thought this would be the perfect song for a kinda cute/a little awkward childhood friends to lovers fic. anyway enjoy sorry for my high ramblings

Let me just set the scene

You had been friends with the Harper quads for as long as you could remember - or at least close to it. You’d met them when you were about 10 and had just moved to Boulder, Colorado with your family. Now nearly a decade later you were best friends with the four of them, and Tom and Anne almost saw you as a fifth child (well, sixth if you count Squishy Paws). You loved telling people about how you first met. It all started when you first came into Get Sporty with your family and saw four kids around your age. Dicky had immediately tried to hit on you, Dawn was excited because there was finally another girl in town, and Ricky was thrilled to meet another intellectual since you were in nearly all of his advanced classes with him. But Nicky? Nicky just liked you for you. You loved the quads and would never admit it to their faces, but you did have a bit of a soft spot for Nicky. There had been other guys here and there, but you’d kind of had a crush on Nicky on and off since you’d first met him - and right now it was full on.

I just left the party at Blake’s and it’s Halloween

It had taken Nicky long enough, but finally when you were both 16 he realized he felt the same way. He had sort of caught on that you had some sort of feelings for him, but Nicky had never really been with a girl before and didn’t really know what to do or how he felt. You, the quads, and Mae were all at a Halloween party of one of your classmate’s. You had tried to convince the quads to dress up as the Spice Girls with you, but that hadn’t exactly went well. Instead, you, Dawn, and Mae had went as the Powerpuff Girls - you as Blossom, Dawn as Bubbles, and Mae as Buttercup - Ricky had gone as Nikola Tesla, Dicky had gone as Elvis, and you’d helped Nicky come up with the very fitting idea of dressing up as Linguine from Ratatouille (with Squishy as his Remy, of course).

It was supposed to be an incredible night, but things started to go south before you ever could have expected it - and that’s saying something for the Harper quads. You were starting to feel a little gross not even an hour in, and started projectile barfing with Dawn holding back your hair only a few moments later. What do you know, Derek Moses had spiked the punch. Though the same couldn’t be said about you in the present day, 16 year old you had never drank before, and it was hitting you pretty hard. All of your friends were extremely worried about you, especially the quads.

“Look, guys, I’m the oldest, and I drove. I’ll take (Y/N) home and make sure she’s okay, you guys keep having fun.” Dawn had said.

“No, I will,” Ricky had argued. “Y/N needs someone responsible to take care of her right now.”

“No, I can take her!” Dicky had piped up, “I don’t have anything smart to say… I just wanna be a good friend.”

“None of you guys are taking (Y/N),” Nicky had finally added. “Ricky, the magician will be here any minute, I don’t want you to miss that.”

“Isn’t the magician just Blake’s stoner cousin?”

“Not relevant. Dawn, you shouldn’t have to leave Mae all alone! And Dicky, that girl over there is all over you, man! You guys stay here and I’ll take (Y/N) home, okay? I’m the only one who hasn’t had any punch and (Y/N) needs a safe, sober designated driver.” He smirked. “Plus, I’m her favorite.”

“Bullshit!”

“Hey, it’s only bullshit if it’s not true. Anyway, I have a (Y/N) to take home. I’ll be back soon, you guys.”

The potential of us, it was keeping me up all night long

What happened next you only ever heard of through the grapevine from the other quads, all of them laughing their asses off about it. Nicky was way too shy to ever bring it up again. Apparently you had - drunk off your shit - totally came onto Nicky on the ride home.

“God, what did Moses put in that shit? You’re wasted, bubs,” Nicky said, not taking his eyes off of the road but using his hand to gently rub your knee.

“Noooo, I mean it, Nicks! I want youuuu.”

He looked over at you as he pulled into the driveway, giggling slightly at your goofy demeanor and cute face. Even though you pretended you didn’t, you only remembered one thing from that night - what he said next.

“I would totally fucking kiss you if you weren’t drunk right now.”

This could be a disaster, there’s so many factors

Surely he thought you would forget. Surely Nicky didn’t actually mean it… did he?

You had stumbled out of the car, Nicky opening your door for you and helping you out. “But Nicky… this is your house, not mine.”

“Damn right it is. I’m not going back to the party. I’m staying here with you all night and helping you get to sleep. I’m gonna make sure you’re safe, okay?”

Like what if you freak out and then we’re losing it all?

Nicky had set you up in his bed with at least a dozen pillows and blankets and was now playing video games on his phone across the room, assuming you were already asleep.

“Hey Nicks?”

“Yeah bubba?”

“I’m uh… I’m sorry if I weirded you out tonight. I was drunk as fuck.”

“S’alright. Sobering up already?”

“Yeah, a little I guess.”

“Good. Get some rest, (Y/N). I’m here if you need anything.”

You woke up with your mascara and red lipstick smeared all over his nice pillows, but Nicky didn’t care. He was just happy you were okay and had even gone as far as to make you breakfast that morning, which his three siblings relentlessly teased him for. Nicky wasn’t sure what it was about that night. Maybe it was your cute Blossom costume, maybe it was the way he was able to protect you, maybe it was how flirty you had been with him (and how unexpectedly hot that had been), or maybe it was just because you were his best friend and you two had always been there for each other. He didn’t know, but ever since that night, Nicky started falling - hard. He just couldn’t help worrying himself sick that maybe you didn’t feel the same way. I mean, you were pretty drunk when you said all those things.

What Nicky didn’t know is that years later, you still hadn’t stopped thinking about him and that night. And what he’d said when he thought you weren’t paying attention…

“I would totally fucking kiss you if you weren’t drunk right now.”

The words were still playing in your head clear as day even after all this time. It still didn’t feel real and part of you couldn’t help but wonder if it was just wishful thinking, if you’d just made it up because of how drunk you were. Nicky Harper had wanted to kiss you.

But what if he didn’t? What if you were just remembering it wrong, hearing what you wanted to hear?

You call me a liar, now I’m falling faster

Of course, with your inebriated state Nicky didn’t believe a word you said. What he didn’t realize was that you weren’t just spewing bullshit because you were drunk, you were just saying everything you were too scared to say sober.

You tried not to get drunk or high in front of Nicky after that point. For starters, it wasn’t really his thing and you respected that. But most of all you were worried you would let your guard down around him again and tell him everything you’d been trying to hide.

This could be a disaster

Those next couple years after the party flew by with stolen glances and the quads teasing Nicky whenever you were around. Before you knew it, you and your friends were already out of high school and that party from back when you were 16 felt like ages ago.

Tonight you were staying over at Mae’s house, just the two of you. You, Mae, and Dawn had girls’ nights all together often, but Dawn was on a college visit out of state, so it was just you and Mae alone.

You had hinted at your crush on Nicky to Mae a couple times but had never straight up told her. It wasn’t that you didn’t trust Mae, you just didn’t want to put her under the pressure of keeping this secret from Dawn. And you definitely didn’t want Dawn to know - the last thing you wanted was a little crush ruining your friendship with your best friend.

Is it purely platonic to call me like every night?

You and Mae were in the middle of watching Mean Girls when you got a FaceTime notification. You paused the movie and jumped up to pick up your phone.

“Who the hell is calling this late?” Mae asked.

You blushed a bit. “It’s Nicky. He calls me every night since that one Halloween party to make sure I’m doing okay. It’s actually really sweet…”

“Oh, okay!” Mae smirked knowingly, “well tell Nicky I say hi, I’m gonna run downstairs and get more popcorn.”

You answered your phone as Mae raced down the stairs, locking eyes with Nicky’s pretty green ones.

“Hey Nicky!”

“Hey (Y/N)! How’s it going?”

“Going good. I’m just staying the night at Mae’s tonight. Hey, have you heard from Dawn?”

Nicky nodded. “Yeah, a bit. She said it’s a pretty good campus over there. She misses you, though. We all do.” He blushed a little.

“What do you mean?”

“Well, you haven’t been here for a couple days since Dawn’s been gone and now we’re out of school so we aren’t seeing each other everyday. Ricky, Dicky, and I have been at each other’s throats without any female influence around.” You both chuckled. “I mean it though. I should’ve asked you sooner, now I’m wishing you had come over here tonight.”

You shook your head. “Look I’d love to Nicks, but my parents know Dawn’s out of town. They’d never let me have a sleepover with boys.”

Nicky shrugged. “I mean hey, we’re here every other time you sleep over with Dawn.”

“Yeah, I know, it’s kinda stupid,” you sighed, “they’re weird like that. I mean even the night after that party junior year on Halloween I still kinda bullshitted them and said I had stayed in Dawn’s room. They would have flipped shit if I’d told them I’d slept in your bed and would totally think there was something going on between us.”

Nicky laughed a little, “I mean they wouldn’t have been entirely wrong about that night, huh?”

You were now a stuttering and blushing mess, not sure what to say back as Mae entered the room with a popcorn bucket bigger than her head.

“You like yours buttered, right? Oh, hey Nicky!”

“Hey Mae!” Nicky said, waving. “Well, I don’t wanna distract from your girls’ night. You ladies have a good one, okay?”

“Will do,” you mused, “goodnight, Nicky.”

“Night, (Y/N).”

You hung up and turned to Mae, who was looking at you with a curious grin.

“Sooooo?” she teased in a sing song voice.

“So, what? C’mon, let’s watch this bus get Regina’s ass!”

Mae grabbed the remote out of your hand before you were able to unpause the movie. “Not so fast. What’s going on between you and Nicky?”

“Wh-what do you mean?”

“Are you guys a thing? Are you guys not a thing?”

You rolled your eyes. “Mae, we’re just friends.”

“Just friends that call each other every night?”

You shrugged. “It’s nothing. He’s just being nice. I mean, it’s Nicky. You know what a sweetheart he is. It’s just what friends do.”

“And yet none of the other quads do that.”

“Well shit.”

Mae laughed. “(Y/N), everyone knows you and Nicky like each other. We’ve just been staying out of it because it’s not really our place, yknow?”

You chuckled. “Great. Everyone knows but us?”

“Well… yeah,” she sighed. “You should make a move! What’s the worst that could happen?”

“I could lose my childhood best friend?”

“Look, (Y/N), he totally likes you! I say you go for it before we all go off to college one day and it’s too late.”

“You’re right. But it’s probably better off said in person.”

You pulled out your phone and texted Nicky.

Nicky could hardly sleep that night after getting your text, talking with his brothers about what it could possibly mean.

“She’s obviously into you, dude,” Dicky said, “I mean, isn’t it obvious?”

“Yeah, even I see it,” Ricky agreed.

“And he can’t even remember the last time he talked to a girl besides Dawn, Mom, (Y/N), or Mae.”

“Oh, shut up,” Ricky rolled his eyes.

“Well am I wrong?”

“No Dicky we get it, you aren’t wrong!”

Nicky sighed. “I don’t care who’s right or who’s wrong. I’m just worried (Y/N) is going to say I’ve been coming on too strong and that she doesn’t want to be friends anymore…”

“She’s not gonna say that, man,” Dicky said, “she cares about you too much. It’s been years, you need to go for it! And if Dawn were here she’d say the same.”

“You’re right.” Nicky replied. “I’m gonna make my move when I see (Y/N) tomorrow.”

A day later, you and Nicky were sitting together on his bed, both nervous as hell.

“So… you had something you wanted to tell me?”

“Yeah.”

“Is everything okay, (Y/N)? You seem nervous.”

“Yeah, I’m fine. Just… not sure how to say this.”

“You know you can tell me anything, right? That’s what best friends are for.”

Faces close, bodies shaking in unison with nerves you finally spoke up. “Well… I’m not drunk right now.”

It took Nicky a second to realize what you were talking about, but then it hit him. “Y-you heard me say that, didn’t you?” You nodded “Are you saying I can? I mean- you mean- you want me to?”

You nodded as Nicky gently took your face in his hand and kissed you slowly. His lips were soft, and your head went a little fuzzy from euphoria as he carefully pulled you closer into him.

He pulled away, still holding you. “You should stay the night tonight. Tell your parents Mae will be here, I don’t know, whatever it takes. I just want you here with me.”

You smiled, arms around his shoulders, and nuzzled into his chest. “That works for me.”

19. Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (Favorite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)

“Said softly” instead of “whispered” is the first one that comes to mind. I’m also a huge fan of the “oh” with a second, italicized “oh” after it for a feelings realization (or just that general feel of “oh, this is new” type situation). With Matthew and Alice, I know I have him noticing the “pretty pink” of her blush very often (it’s cute, y’all, it’s so dang cute)

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

Oh, um... in the soulmate au for Matthew and Alice there’s a LOT. I had them be each others’ “safe harbor” (a nod to @aelliots ‘s wonderful fic, Safe Harbours) for quite a bit, them bonding over shared not-so-great pasts before finding out they were each others’ soulmate. Most recently, I repeated a lot of... I guess dialogue of when Alice went to see Matthew after his accident (visiting him in his hospital bed, the crying over him, hand over his heart, my all time favorite line: “He was alive, he was here, he was hers.”) with the reverse situation of Alice being the one in the hospital and Matthew seeing her there (all the same stuff! Hand over heart, and a variation of my favorite line: “She was here, she was alive, and she was still his.”) Just... ugh I love the soulmate au so much, and I’m gonna be a little sad once it’s over (only two more parts left in the series!)

Constantly! I have multiple series that I rotate through (along with new ones being added to the rotation as old ones finish up), so I go back and reread to 1. Remind myself of what’s happened and 2. Keep continuity for that series. Plus, it’s just kind of fun to reread stuff and get lost again in that particular series (or reread the oneshots that I have fun with!) My recent stuff I’m happy with (recent being in the last 5 years or so), stuff before that I’m a little iffier on, depending on the fic, the fandom, and how old it is. I don’t have a LOT of my older stuff up anymore, mostly due to me just not wanting it associated with me or I was planning on rewriting and then lost the original files (it’s on an external, I just can’t access the external and it’s too expensive to do data recovery).

emmet and lucy’s whole arc destroyed my kokoro though like emmet was so used to lucy being critical of him and asking more of him that it led to so many bad choices including not believing she was in her right mind because she was encouraging him. This is made even worse when you realize that she was forgetting some of his past endeavors. Like Lucy.... Lucy, WHY are you so shocked Emmet came up with a good plan using his contruction background? That’s HOW HE SAVED THE WORLD IN THE LAST MOVIE. Short version: I am so delighted that you loved this fic! I really appreciate you sending in a review at all, but this is just... everything right now hahaha.

Long version: I think one of my favorite things about your whole review is that it was like rereading the fic, except with lively commentary? Like your review is basically a play-by-play of the fic but fun and with real-time feeling and reaction, if you know what I mean. I'm not lying when I say I was giddy and giggling throughout your entire review, like sitting in bed, freshly awake, unsure what time it was, heavy migraine, yet smiling and giggling like an idiot haha.

You feeling the normalcy between them and successfully registering the ease and lightheartedness within their initial dynamic is so great to hear. Say natural as maaaany times as you wish because it’s music to my ears hahaha. My goal is always for the reader to be able to understand and feel what the characters are feeling, especially the reader insert, so whenever someone tells me that, I melt a bit. I will say it was definitely hard to continue that feeling throughout the fic in a way that was natural as opposed to simply telling the reader "you feel this. this is how it feels. this is what it is" and at some points, I definitely felt unsuccessful, but I'm very glad you enjoyed it!

Hahaha the lotionnnn. That was absolutely the official turning point. Little gifts are all fun and baseless until you realize just how much thought is put into it. Like you said, he was watching her, and that is something she had to acknowledge. It wasn't simply him picking something out at random. He noticed her looking at a bottle of lotion, seemingly about to buy it but didn't, then proceeds to buy the said item in secrecy so that he can surprise her later. There's thought in every little aspect. Watching her, knowing her so well that he's able to tell she wanted that lotion, then buying it for her but instead of simply handing it to her, he decides to make somewhat of a grand gesture and surprise her. And if that isn't enough, he throws in a handwritten note. Thought. In. Everything. Ahh he is something. If I were her I would die right then and there.

They absolutely have been pining! Though unbeknownst to them, still definitely pining. It's these little people imprisoned in their brains screaming "Please let me out so I can openly love this person! Please release me, I want to kiss and coddle and sex them up for the rest of time!" and in their time at the house, these little peoples screams are finally being heard and every day they get louder and louder, until one day these little people with big feelings are finally released, and they openly and entirely embrace the pine.

The sex was something I knew how to navigate before I even began outlining. I knew I wanted it to be a stark contrast from how they act with each other, and I didn’t want it to be this kinky, heavily detailed sex because that’s not what the plot is about. As friends, they’re bold with teasing and their comments are unfiltered. Once they cross that line, they’re vulnerable, and in first light they aren’t as bold as the front they initially put up. Obviously that vulnerability will lessen once they finally talk about where to take it from there and decide to go all in, but upon them having sex the first time, it’s new and it’s scary and the reality that it could’ve been potentially damaging is something that will stick with them until it’s discussed and dissolved, because they are best friends. They do love each other. But even along with the frightening possibility that it could’ve hurt their friendship, it’s also different from the regular teasing because one, Jaemin wants to properly convey how serious he is and two, reader wants to understand what she’s feeling while also seeing if Jaemin feels it too. It’s a different type of an unspoken dynamic as opposed to the rest of the fic, because unlike it being unspoken questions about what’s going on, it’s “i like this and i think you like it too, let’s keep going. I trust you.”

Your review is not “too long” by any means, it is perfect and lovely and funny and animated and I appreciate it soooo so much, I can’t truly put it into words. One of my fics being a “comfort fic” for someone is like completely unimaginable, but UYI is?? Yours???? Sorry I can’t process, brain is malfunctioning hahahaha. How much do you think is too much when including emails and text messages in a novel? If we're writing contemporary fiction it's hardly realistic to avoid any e-communication, though phone calls end up barely different from dialogue. I don't have entire pages of texts or anything, but I'm wondering if I do use texts and emails too much. It's unavoidable for a time in my story, however.

Including Epistolary Elements in Your Story

How often you use them isn’t as important as how you use them. Things to keep in mind:

1) While it’s true that a lot of communication takes place via text messages, e-mails, and social media, text communication is missing the depth of emotional connection you can get from conversations happening in person. Some things just work better in person because you can describe facial expressions, body language, and physical interaction between the people in the conversation.2) Make sure you’re not using texts/e-mails as shortcuts to “tell” rather than “show.” For example, instead of having your character text her friend and tell her about meeting a cute guy at a concert, maybe that whole event (meeting the guy at the concert) should play out in a scene.3) Text conversations should be short, simple, and to the point. No more than half a page unless it’s a really really important conversation. Aim for maybe five or six lines per character if you can. Avoid walls of text where a character’s line is a huge paragraph. While some people are a bit wordy in text messages, your book isn’t the place to demonstrate that, no matter how realistic it might be. Same goes for text message slang. Keep the OMGs and “R U there” type stuff to a minimum. Again, that may be how some people really speak in text messages, but your reader doesn’t want to read a half page of “N E one wld no that. Y R U so gullible? PLZ tell me U didn’t go 2 Dave’s?!”4) E-mails should also be kept to half a page or less. Again, it’s not necessary to be realistic and include all the rambling typical of realistic e-mails. Once again, you’re looking for short and to the point.I hope that helps!

Okay so, I realized that I might as well share with all the people who enjoy this series my relatively short knowledge of what’s going on starting from vol 7, since it’s not translated yet and I don’t know when it’s going to be. 

Of course, spoilers for the anime currently airing, even if I doubt we’ll go until there, but it’s always better that you catch up with everything first before you take a look below, especially since a lot of things happen.

Warning: I’m not fluent in Japanese, not at all & far from it actually, so all of what I’m about to say is supposed to be taken with a huge grain of salt. I have rather limited knowledge buuuuut taking my time, Koiame proves to generally be easier to read than what I’m accustomed to.

Volume 7 (ch49-56)

vol7  was entirely translated by Roseliascans and vol 8 will apparently follow shortly so go read the translated chapters! 

Volume 8 (ch57-64)

It turns out that, ever since realizing his feelings for her, Kondo is losing sleep and mostly, he starts avoiding Akira as much as he can.

At some point he searches on the internet “how to get rid of insomnia” but Kase shows up right at this moment. He tries to “help” (I mean, it’s Kase) by telling him that maybe he should try herbal tea or sweet sake.

Then he says that the best thing to do first would surely be to get rid of “why” Kondo started being insomniac, so Kase (who, again, is 200% aware of Akira’s feelings for their boss) “jokingly” asks if he’s insomniac because he’s in love. Kondo gets super flustered so I think Kase found out what he wanted to know.

Still Kondo tries what Kase told him and he drinks herbal tea + sweet sake before going to bed, but there is no avoiding dreaming about Akira until his alarm clock wakes him up. 

Then he meets with Chihiro, who’s rambling about stuff and who gets pretty annoyed the few times Kondo seems to stare at his phone instead of listening to him, so Chihiro takes Kondo’s phone and sees that he’s trying to write a message to “Tachibana Akira”.

Initially Kondo tries to pretend that “Akira” is a male coworker’s name but Chihiro is quite convinced that “Akira” is a girl (and well, he’s right). Kondo admits nothing though, but Chihiro is pretty excited for him.

In ch58, the kouhai girls from the end of vol7 tell Haruka that they went to where Akira works, so Haruka decides to go there.

Meanwhile Yui and Akira are having lunch before going back to work: Akira tells Yui about how bothered she was by her kouhai showing up, and I believe Yui understands because her school doesn’t allow students to have part-time job. She also adds something about how she wouldn’t want her friends at school (I suppose) to know about Yoshizawa (so again, I think she agrees with Akira).

Going back to work, Akira and Haruka meet at the restaurant. Haruka tells Akira “please come back to the track & field club” because she feels she’s growing too much apart from Akira. In the end though, she doesn’t eat anything and leaves while Akira is stunned. Kondo sees Haruka leaving and realizes she’s the girl who helped him pick up Yuuto’s shoes.

Not sure I understood ch59 that well, because it seemed to be mostly built with metaphores initially coming from Kondou’s little storage issue with the restaurant’s computer. xD

So anyway, Kondo is still avoiding Akira, but Yuuto shows up and Akira ends up watching over him and giving him advice as he practices running. Kondo insists that she doesn’t have to force herself (since he knows she’s got slight issues on the subject and fears it might be too stressful) but she does it anyway and they both watch over Yuuto running around.

Akira says Yuuto is fast and that since he’s still a growing kid, he can become even faster if he practices properly. Then Kondo basically compares his son to a computer and the main gist of the whole scene (from the way I understood it) is that kids are “like computer” with huge data storage capacity, because they can learn & experience a lot as long as they’re hard workers.

Of course this leads Akira to wonder if adults can’t do this kind of things too (learning/experiencing new things) and what she was apparently implying by this as well as her staring and moving closer to him was enough to fluster Kondo a lot.

Frankly I don’t know if what she wanted to address was if he’d ever have feelings for her (since he hasn’t confessed yet when she did a while ago) or if she was more or less trying to go for a kiss, but either way, nothing happened except Kondo being extremely flustered. 

Anyway, next chapter has Kondo avoiding Akira just like always and wearing a scarf when she’s knitting one for him, so she gets pretty annoyed by all of it and ends up confronting him about his current behavior. He apologizes for not realizing he was avoiding her (lmao) but she’s still pretty jealous about the scarf even if he doesn’t know that. 

Nothing particularly important happens afterwards: Akira and Haruka want to go Christmas shopping but first, they go to pick up Sho-chan (who’s in the year below high school), which gives Akira an opportunity to check on Mizuki’s running performances. Of course the girl feels pressured, but Shota shows up and they leave quickly.

In another chapter, Yuuto gets in an accident because he was running in the street and a student on a bike hit him but it turns out he’s okay, he just sprained his ankle. 

Yui and Akira meet up for more Christmas shopping when Yui tells Akira that she wants to confess and gives the scarf to Yoshizawa before Christmas. She has Akira’s full support of course and they go to buy new hair pins.

When Yui doesn’t look, Akira also buys the hair tonic that Kondo uses because she likes the smell and it reminds her of him, which results the following days in everyone thinking that she’s the manager at first when nope. xD Kubo even tells her not to wear too much perfume in general since they’re working in a restaurant (and I guess different smells mixing isn’t good for the food)

Anyway the rest of the volume is focusing on Yui and Yoshizawa which is super cute. I think their little date starts because Yui wants to thank him for always allowing her to cut his hair and because he introduced her to his grandmother who gave Yui advice for knitting. 

So they meet up and go ice-skating (Yoshizawa is so cute, saying stuff like ‘I’ll teach you’ and he also thinks Yui’s hairdo suits her) and stuff happens before Yui decides to be brave and confess, with the scarf to offer, but...

he apologizes before running away... ;_; Poor Yui... Meanwhile Akira is waiting for Yui’s report about how it went but she hasn’t received any message yet. Turns out Akira is also waiting for someone and this person is...

Volume 9 (ch65-73)

...Haruka. They’re going to Kyoto with Tomoe, Akira’s aunt on her mom’s side, because Haruka is participating in a race. Akira’s aunt is reading “Waves by the window” and Akira asks her to lend it to her since she remembers that it was written by a friend of Kondo. 

They meet Mizuki again, who’s originally from Kyoto (and who’s visiting her old school?)

While in the bath, they discuss why Akira is knitting that scarf but they end up staying too long and get dizzy. xD Akira sends a text to Kondo, wishing him a merry Christmas and explaining that she’s in Kyoto but Kondo cannot open the image that she sent. 

I don’t really remember exactly what Akira and her aunt speak about while Haruka is running, but I think it’s something about how “growing up and things changing are painful” and Akira is wondering if that feeling ever changes over time (could be 100% wrong though). 

Meanwhile Yui finds some resolve again thanks to her sister who reminds her about her dream to become a beautician and how that involves always smiling even when things are painful. So Yui cuts her hair short :))

Going back to work, she also tells Akira that things didn’t work as she expected with Yoshizawa but that she still wants to become a beautician and she seems happy enough with just that. 

In the following chapter, Akira realizes that both Haruka and Yui are moving forward in comparison to her, so she feels pretty bummed out about feeling left behind. Going to the restaurant, Kondo greets her, asking about Kyoto, and Akira, in need of comfort, imagines herself hugging him, but it’s not really happening.

Anyway, she gives Kondo a bookmark that she bought as a souvenir from Kyoto for him and he shares a story about a bird nest there used to be above the restaurant but that Kubo took down.

This leads to him thinking about her injury and he says something about how it’s okay if a bird doesn’t fly away because it’s happy to stay at its usual place. But if the reason it doesn’t fly is because it gave up then it’s bound to eternally look up at the sky. So “girl, plz go back to running” should be the message here. xD

Back home, Kondo looks at the bookmark again and ends up writing during the whole night. The next day, he looks pretty tired as he leaves for a meeting at the main office, which is precisely when Chihiro comes to the restaurant. 

Of course Chihiro asks if the manager is here, since he knows it’s Kondo’s working place. He also checks out Yui’s and Kubo’s names on their uniform and thinks that “maybe ‘Tachibana Akira’ was a guy then”... He also thinks that he or she should be around Kubo’s age. Meanwhile Kubo thinks that she saw him somewhere before.

Chihiro ends up asking Yui about if there is someone working here called “Tachibana Akira-kun” and Yui is confused because yes, there is Akira, but obviously the customer is looking for a boy since he used “kun” so she answers “nope”. Meanwhile Kubo remembers him as being a famous writer who appeared on TV.

Just as Chihiro leaves the restaurant, Akira shows up and, between the ‘Tachibana’ name on her uniform and Yui saying “Akira-chan”, Chihiro realizes that she is the person he was looking for. 

Obviously it’s super funny because he gets all like “wait, no way, it can’t be” and in disbelief, he asks how old she is (she’s 17). xDD

Then Chihiro goes to a party at his office and his editor introduces him to a very talented young writer who’s one of Chihiro’s biggest fans but also 17 years old (I think his name is Machida Sui, but it’s not his real name).

When Kondo comes back at the restaurant, everyone tells him about Chihiro passing by and they realize that the two are friends. Then again, it’s super funny because Kondo says that they went to the same university and Kase is super shocked to realize that the manager went to the university in the first place (since he’s a uni student too). He even grabs Yoshizawa and tell him to think carefully about what he wants to do in life xDD

Kondo also realizes that if Chihiro came to the restaurant that means he must know now who Akira is and well, the perspective kinda frightens him.

Cute chapter follows with Yuuto making a yarn phone and wanting to try his new game with Akira. First he says ‘poop’ and she’s not happy xD but she ends up asking him when his father’s birthday is, since January is coming but Yuuto doesn’t know. Then she asks if he knows whether it’s in the first or second half of the month but Kondo takes the phone instead and answers that his birthday is on January 5th.

He asks her in return when her birthday is and she answers June 21st which leads to him saying that she is born during the rainy season. They play with the yarn phone again a few other times after that day, but apparently Akira feels lonely. 

Back to Chihiro who keeps wondering what’s up with these 17 years old youngsters lately xDD And right after that, he receives an invitation from Machida and they meet up in a restaurant. Turns out Machida’s real first name is “Akira” too (but he’s a guy).

The gist of their discussion is that it draws a comparison between Chihiro who’s 45 and who only ever focused on writing, while Machida is 17, already a talented writer but he wants to do many other things in life besides just writing. 

Chihiro says he envies him, but Machida says that he finds Chihiro’s devotion to writing to be beautiful. Chihiro ends up saying “let’s be friends”. :)) He visits Kondo afterwards and he ends up saying something about how these youngsters have enough power to move a dull heart and Chihiro feels motivated. 

The end of the chapter shows that Akira is reading a document that her doctor gave her about starting full rehabilitation in order to run again and the next one is a flashback to a year ago, when she was still running. Slightly later in the volume, it’s said that her doctor thinks that, if she does everything properly, she’ll be able to run again around next spring (as in a year, not in 3 months but again, I could have misunderstood).

End of the volume is coming and bad news come with it, because Yui-chan is quitting. ;_; It’s not that she wants to, it’s because her school asked her to. Yui apologizes to Akira but strangely enough, it’s Yoshizawa who is more stunned than everybody else.

On Kase’s side, I believe he still has this crush on his “sister” but things take a bad turn for him too, because while chiding her the usual way one evening, she ends up saying that she’s such a useless sister anyway that she will stop coming to his place. And obviously that puts him in a super bad mood at work.

Finally, it’s the end of the year and the staff decides to hold a party both to celebrate it and also Yui’s departure, but Kase is as bitter as ever and when the countdown for the new year starts, he ends up throwing her way something like “are you really quitting because you can’t get a boyfriend?” (or an equivalent), which gets Yoshizawa to yell “oi” but Akira is the one who ends up punching him in the face, lol.

The volume ends on January 1st, it’s snowing instead of raining, Kase got punched, Yui is leaving, Yoshizawa is confused, Kondo is still writing and Akira goes to visit him with the scarf she knitted and a letter.

Chapters 74-78

Akira shows up just at the moment Kondo decides to take a break from writing and a bath. She leaves the scarf and letter in front of his door and goes home when he doesn’t answer. He checks his phone after his bath and that’s how he notices she came by (her text says: “happy new year, will we meet again from now on?”)

so he kinda runs after her with the scarf and when he catches up with her he says he’s glad to see her. Akira wishes him a happy birthday slightly in advance and the scarf is her present for this occasion.

They go back to his house afterwards, but he has to clean up a little before she can get in. 

I’m not sure exactly of how it’s supposed to be worded but Kondo wonders about “meeting again” and IDK if it is that he has a strange feeling about why she said that in her text, or if it’s his own feeling. Sorry, this is confusing, but I wonder if Akira’s text doesn’t have something to do with that letter he has yet to read (maybe she’s quitting too?).

Anyway, at the beginning of ch75, Akira is relieved because she realizes that the reason Kondo was slightly different lately is because he’s writing again whenever he’s not working. 

They chat a little while he makes her coffee (and doesn’t forget her sugar) and he says that the snow outside really makes him feel as if they’re alone in the world. Then, watching her happy expression for the sugar, he thinks to himself that, because it’s such a quiet day with the snow falling outside, he feels as if he’s going to say words that he wouldn’t/can’t say usually. 

ch76 is Kondo imagining what it would be like if he was a high school student as the same time as Akira and he seems to think that he wouldn’t have any contact with Akira in high school (or rather, he’d notice her when she wouldn’t). 

Somehow (from the way I understood it) it’s as if the fact that they’re 28 years apart makes them closer than if they had met while both being 17, at least from Kondo’s point of view. I think that he is possibly confused about what he wants to do about his feelings for her. 

in ch77, it’s Akira who imagines what it would be like if Kondo was 17 and a classmate (something about 17 y/o Kondo wanting to do an interview for the school’s newspaper about Akira’s results in track & field). All in all, it comes down to the fact that Akira eventually doesn’t mind when it’s raining in that fantasy world because, even if she cannot go to the track & field club on raining days, she can still go to the library and meet with him.

ch78 is focusing more on the scarf: Kondo is surprised at her gift but also very impressed that she knitted it by herself. Akira confirms she did it by herself several times and she shows her cute jealous side towards his other scarf, pushing it away and, frankly, it’s adorable.

I think at some point Kondo asks about why she punched Kase during the New Year’s party and Akira says something like “I couldn’t forgive him” (surely because of what he said to Yui). That makes him laugh.

Aaaand the chapter ends with Kondo thinking namely about the scarf and while staring at Akira, he feels as if he can’t breath.

The editor’s line implies that he’s staring and is completely taken by Akira.

I don’t know what’s the usual update schedule (once or twice a month?) but anyway, that’s it for now. Again, please take with a grain of salt.

TBH I really wonder about the content of Akira’s letter, it seems very plot relevant. And I wonder if Kondo might not finally give in, at least about his feelings in one of the following chapters. ...At the same time, I feel like there could be a bittersweet development lurking due to him being still bothered by the huge age gap, soooo we’ll see!

FINAL POINT, kinda unrelated, but please do not ever refer to this series as ‘shoujo’ or ‘josei’. It’s ‘seinen’, meaning that it supposedly targets a more adult public than the other terms (yes, the slice of life genre in seinen does exist). Thank you!

TG movie comments

So last night I dragged along my cousin (who knows absolutely nothing about TG) to watch the live action movie and I just wanted to ramble on about a few things, including some of my cousin’s comments from someone who isn’t already a fan :)

I absolutely loved the movie! There were so many little details for manga readers to pick up on, but they weren’t presented in a way which would detract from the experience of someone who was new to the series. My cousin really liked it too, enough that she wanted to watch the anime afterwards to see how it compared, so I guess it hit the goal of what a live action should do; appease established fans of the story and draw in new viewers to seek out the manga/anime to get more of the story!

The casting was amazing all round. When we watched the anime, and could compare the characters between the two mediums, Cousin mentioned how spot on they were. Even flipping through my manga to a page with Yomo, she picked him out which i was surprised about considering the different hair colour and age. I think it’s probably because the actor was really spot on with Yomo’s -__- expression!

Kaneki on the date with Rize was SO AWKWARD, painfully so. I was getting so much secondhand embarrassment from him :’D Comparing to the anime, Cousin mentioned that too- how he wasn’t as awkward in there. It was cute though! I get the feeling to someone who doesn’t know his character, he would have come across as a bit creepy rather than endearing though hahaha

There were a few scenes which were cut out/changed for necessity but so many small details were kept the same (insignificant things like Kaneki guzzling milk out his fridge which I was oddly touched that it was kept in haha) 

Probably one of the only things, they cut out Kaneki calling Touka a monster after he asked for her help in the alleyway which I thought kind of diluted down her reason for why she was so salty at him. But at the same time, they did add a few gentler moments from Touka to balance it out (gotta get that tsun to dere ratio just right ;D)

Like I had suspected from one of the stills, Touka scooped out a handful of cake from the garbage and threw it at Kaneki during her “tell me, what does cake taste like?” spiel and it made me cackle thinking of the cake throwback at their wedding

HAJIME MADE A CAMEO AND I WANTED TO SEND HIM TO TIME OUT IMMEDIATELY

Ryouko’s death was so sad, and just before the end, they made everything very still and silent as she turned to Hinami and locked eyes with her

Like the anime, the movie used Kaneki hallucinating Rize to show his inner conflict. He’d look in the mirror and see her reflection instead- it was really cool.

Funny Kaneki and Touka moment; when Yoshimura first took Kaneki into Anteiku and served him coffee, there was a really touching moment when Kaneki realised he could drink it and he started crying, there was emotional music that tugged at your heart strings.... and then Touka ruined it with “Don’t cry, dumbass” TOUKA PLZ. In the last scene of the movie, everyone was back to working at Anteiku- peaceful and happy- and Kaneki got emotional again and started getting teary. Touka again: “Don’t cry dumbass” but this time with a little smirk and Kaneki smiled too. It was real cute.

This scene was done spot on with her kagune and everything- I got so emotional

That’s not the only scene that was almost a direct adaptation of the manga. They tended to do that in more important moments- have a camera shot directly out of the manga

Seeing the “Hinami, I think your Mother was trying to tell you to live” part was also sad considering whats going on in the manga right now- probably the worst week to be having Hinami feels in the movie ToT

The movie made Kusaba real cute and likable. His actor was a perfect fit. It worked well to make you invested in his character and make an impact with his death.

The training montage with Touka and Kaneki was AMAZING. It switched back and forth between them fighting in the dark dirty underground and Amon training in the pristine CCG facilities. In one part, Kaneki finally got a hit on Touka and went over to her like “I’m sorry Touka-chan!!! are you--” at which point she got him back with a kick :’D 

Hide was cute af, no surprises- his energy was a welcome contrast to Kaneki’s quietness

Nishiki was GREAT too, I don’t know what sorcery it is but Nishiki is spot on in every single adaptation

There was the COOLEST moment after Kaneki was about to eat Hide- Touka and Yomo showed up and they were so badass standing there at the door and activating their kakugan at the same time

Another cute moment, Hinami asked Touka what a word in her book was and she had a look like “ahhhhh..ummmm...” then nodded Kaneki to help her instead. When he explained, Touka reckons “yes that’s what it is” to which SAVAGE Hina replies with “you didn’t know it either”. Touka got mad at Kaneki for laughing before joining in with the giggles and it was cute af

Sen Takatsuki’s books were SO COOL, the covers were spot on and Kaneki had them all in a stack in his room

At one stage, when Kaneki started hallucinating Rize, the camera panned up to the ceiling with the shadow of a centipede and its scuttling legs. It was a nod to Kafka’s Metamorphosis which was one of those cool details that were there for manga readers. 

Speaking of Rize- the scene where she attacks him on their date was creepy af, it was good shit

After Mado was killed, they had the scene with Touka leaning on Kaneki and Yomo piggybacking Hinami and it was very nostalgic ToT

It was super gory- I like gore but I’m not very good at it so both me and my cousin were both turning our heads away all the time :’D I’d sneak a peek at her sometimes and see the most horrified look on her face, it was hilarious. A few times I knew something was coming up so I’d cover her eyes for her hahaha SO MUCH BLOOD HOLY SHIT like ... everywhere

Hinami asked Kaneki about the quote “the bird fights its way out of the egg, the egg is the world, who would be born must first destroy a world” and he demonstrated by cracking an egg and it was cute af- the relationship between Kaneki and Hinami was really sweet

An interesting change was when Touka wanted to go kill the investigators to protect Hinami- instead of Yoshimura being against it, Yomo stopped her and told her off but let her go off after a nod from Yoshimura. It made it seem like he was ok with what she was doing.

Tri Spoilers

I feel the new trailer has kinda spoiled some of the films best moments since they take some of the tension out of it... On the cast talk, they didn’t say much of interest, since we hadn’t seen the movie, so anything interesting would have been a spoiler...

Cast Talk Sora’s va had invited other cast members to her concert and they came, so she felt like they were family. They twirled around in the uniforms and said they thought the movie was interesting. Next broadcast is those two + Mimi, with Takeru as the MC, because he’s cheerful and able to chat. He called himself ponkotsu (useless, terrible etc) and said he found it difficult, so Sora should do it, but she said she was ponkotsu too. Mimi’s va is the ‘you can do it’ senpai, so the announcer said the three of them probably balance each other out lol

Warning: I was working on three hours of sleep and did have a teeny tiny bit of alcohol before the movie (I get tipsy easily :/) so I may or may not have missed something. 

Shipping moments - honestly whenever someone asks me about a ship moment I never know if they’re talking friend or romance. Because in all honesty, character A can look at B and half of tumblr will say it’s code for them dating. So when y’all say ‘moments’ I never know what you’re thinking because half of you exaggerate nothingness into canon. So when I’m asked about moments, I talk about times when characters interacted. I hope that clears things up.

Also please slow down on the shipping asks. I deleted over 10 messages. Patience is appreciated. So is not being rude. I’m happy to talk about literally any ship, but don’t spam me and demand answers. You make your ship and the fandom look bad. (Also why are y’all on anon I don’t bite lmao)

We start off with a flashback, done in an old timey style (like old movie cinema noises, flickering visuals etc. I thought it was rad like it made me so happy I love it) HIMEKAWA AND DAIGO ARE DIGIDESTINED. (HE’S A GOGGLEHEAD I LOVE HIM) So we see their final story and that’s hella cool but I can’t read kanji and some of it was written in kanji so :/

Looks like she was possessed like Hikari? Glowing eyes and shit, mentions of light, hope, Yggdrasil and homeostasis. (Apparently they were the original chosen which seems kinda blegh to me but w/e)

So they both know they’re chosen and Maki works her butt of to try and get them back (looks like she may have made reboot in order to reach her partner?). At one point Daigo tries to get her to STOP (even though she just wants to see her partner??? Bakumon/Tapirmon)

But also what a dumb confession you nerd. This looked to be high school or uni btw. She was favourable to that. It seems they dated for a time but he forgot everything? (Which explains why she’s so bitter 24/7)

In any case, the kids are stuck in the D World with no way to contact anyone (Gennai isn’t answering) or to get home. They eat. Koushirou goes on a lecture about Oolong because Mochimon said it was nice. Mochimon is looking for a polite way to say ‘I honestly don’t care’ since Koushirou is rambling about it while everyone is doing their own thing. Sora made food for everyone. Everyone’s bonding but Piyomon is being an unreasonable bitch. I can understand her being scared, confused etc, but she’s full on aggressive the whole movie, and it literally makes no sense. It’s distracting, not like the first Piyomon we knew and it doesn’t advance the plot or characters.

Ah, there’s also a few scenes where they’re trying to bond with their Digimon. Hikari’s whistle smells like her so they bond pretty quick and it’s pretty cute. Tsunomon is hiding even though yamato is standing ages away just looking over his shoulder. Lots of ‘DON'T EAT ME PLZ’ which is cute and Mochimon is adorable.

Koushirou is busy so Mimi tries to feed him!!!! He goes bright red and puts his laptop in front of his face, saying he can feed himself. I’m screaming everyone loved it they’re SO CUTE. Sora made some weird shit with jelly beans and whipped cream. Koromon is the only one who likes it. Everyone else thinks its fucked up. I wouldn’t eat it.

Everyone Digivolves because of food? Palmon has a cute scene where she’s all like ‘Am I cute~?’ and Mimi is like YAAAAS YOU ARE! YOU’RE THE DIGIWORLDS NEXT TOP MODEL (okay not a direct quote but shush) which is super cute since Mimi wasn’t impressed with having an ‘ugly’ digimon originally so it really shows her development and growth.

Meikuumon appears, runs away and then disappears through a portal. Meikuumon is very odd, going from crying to being incredibly angry the whole time. It doesn’t make a lot of sense. Meiko gets to the Digital World after her Digivice changes.

Sora is upset because Piyomon is being a bitch so Taito try to comfort her. They sit on either side of her, so it’d be an excellent opportunity for them to both show interest in her. Or for Yamato to go ‘dude, my girlfriend/love interest, back off’. But no. Apparently neither of them know more than ‘Sora’s upset’ and have no idea what’s really wrong or how to help, so they’re using each other as back up to try and make her happy.

How many years have they known each other now? They should have some type of guess at how to help her inidivdually. It makes me wonder if the epilogue is tri canon because this could have set Sorato up perfectly, but if you didn’t know the epilogue, you honestly never would know. Everyone would assume it’s Koumi that’s the official pair.

Agumon floats by on a log? So Tai goes to help and Sora walks off. Tai says the same line Piyomon said about taking care of herself and she’s all like ‘don’t say what Piyomon said!!!’ as if Tai knew about it??? The whole scene is funny, but it’s filler and just goes ‘boys and girls are SO different they CAN’T understand each other?!???!’. It’s basically Taito speaking in unison and going ‘girls are troublesome’.

Considering they don’t know how to comfort her and they’re constantly together, I wouldn’t say it’s a win for anyone but Taiorato fans, and due to the bad writing, I don’t think you can call it a win.

At some point they’re discussing Meiko and Hikari’s like ‘ehhh Takeru, don’t you have a crush on her?’ and he’s like ‘don’t worry, my number one person is...’

Everyone (Meiko not included) is deciding what to do and Jyou is old reliable Jyou again. Takeru mentions how he’s like Jou of the past and Mimi wonders if he’s responsible now because he has a girlfriend to look after. Jyou can tell by her tone she doesn’t believe he has a girlfriend. I live for these jokes tbh.

Everyone gets separated when the big bad attacks. The scene of Jyou/Pata/Pal is adorable, since we see Palmon and then it pans up to Jyou. It looked so dramatic but then it’s Jyou and two weak/girly looking Digimon against a stormy sky and everyone just burst out laughing. 

Tai and Gabu are together. Tai’s shouting for everyone. Gabu joins in.

“YAMato... kun”

He’s too embarassed because they aren’t close enough and stuff to just say ‘Yamato’. Tai is a bit miffed that Gabumon won’t use honorifics on him lmao Gabu’s the cutest little muffin and everyone loved it. It happens again later when he and Yamato are reunited and Yamato is like ???  why honourifics??? and Taichi’s still pissed he doesn’t have honorifics lolololol

Anyone Tai and Hikari meet up and Tai’s like ‘well all their memories are gone it sucks’ and Hikari’s like ‘I don’t know. This way, Plotmon doesn’t remember all the bad things that happened to her. I think it’s okay this way.’ AND DAMN THAT HIT ME. Abuse isn’t something you just magically get over. It’s a lifelong fight. Honestly it was really simple and wasn’t elaborated on, but it seriously touched me. It says a lot about Hikari and her relationship with Tailmon to me.

Palmon draws Mimi on some rocks. Koushirou and Yamato are together and Koushirou just shows photos of everyone having fun which is cute, but do we really need all this bonding stuff? Tri has been really well character driven, but it rebooted to 0 character for the Digimon so I just feel like it’s a bad decision and I’m worried about the time it ate up, since it leaves less time for plot.

Piyomon and Sora are in the desert, Piyomon tries to ditch, they find Meiko. They go recoop and Piyomon doesn’t want to talk to Sora but she happily does whatever Meiko says? Which considering how little she trusts Sora, why would she trust some random human she just met? It’s honestly so cringey and Sora and Meiko were uncomfortable with it, and it made no sense. Sora deserved better.

Ken appears to Sora and Meiko. He shows himself to be Gennai. But apparently is NOT Gennai, but is on the Digimon’s side. Whatever the fuck that means.

Also, he licked Sora’s face while pinning her down and felt all over her to steal her Digivice. It made me hella uncomfortable. It wasn’t necessary, the cast is already freaked out by him, he’s stronger and smarter than them, so it did nothing except make the audience uncomfortable. Sora didn’t make much of a reaction either, so it was weird and unnecessary and not what Digimon is about. 

Maki finds her partner but obviously it doesn’t remember her. She seems really shocked? Like what the fuck? She probably knew this would happen, or the amount of time it’s been could have changed things. Instead of being understanding or sad, she goes berserk and grabs it and shakes it? Girl needs to chill (honestly made me uncomfortable, like imagine shaking a small child? ew)

(Meanwhile, Huckmon fills Daigo in in Maki’s office and just info drops really. Daigo has some nice hacking skills tho. Mostly cuz he knows Maki too well lol)

By the end of the movie everyone except Tailmon is at their final form iirc. That was pretty rad, except I’m pretty sure Takeru’s digivice said MagnaAngemon instead of Holy? Also, Butterfly was playing instead of Brave heart for some of the evolution and that’s weird and wrong. (I love it but it isn’t the evolution song :/)

The end battle is everyone going ‘oh shit Sora/Meiko are in trouble lets get Gennai away from them’ and for some reason they’re on a boat? Okay then. Taito run off with Hikari and encounter Seadramon. Hikari is left to float by herself while the other two drown. They're ultra gay because Taichi can’t swim enough so starts drowning (even though he should theoretically be more athletic than Yamato? Or at least equal) so Yama comes back and swims around him to save him? But they both drown and the AguGabu’s friendship saves them and they Digivolve. As you do. They monologue and shit, but, as much as it’s my OTP and Yama is bae of baes, it didn’t fit the tone, the situation or anything. It wasn’t important. Generic friendship stuff.

Nobody really brings Sora back to her normal self, but Piyomon comes to her senses after Sora tries to save her and is repeatedly smashed into a mountain. Meiko does try to comfort Sora before they’re all attacked and is all like ‘Digimon are our partners’ and using the words Sora used to comfort her (this is right before Meikuumon attacks her too lmao so Meiko tries to help Meikuumon and then they’re all attacked by gennai).

So the others come up with a plan to distract Gennai from SoraMei (which backfrires because Sora runs off to help everyone and he can teleport? So he’s like lol thanks for leaving Meiko wide open nice).

JYOU FULL ON TACKLES GENNAI IT’S BRILLIANT AND COMES OUT OF NOWHERE FUCK DIGIMON I’M USING MY FISTS WHAT A BRAVE GOOD BOY

Piyomon gets captured, Sora tries to save her and is smashed up against a wall of ice numerous times. Piyomon digivolves, mostly everyone else does and a giant Tentomon appears?!? Because Koushirou used a hologram, nice. There was no reason for Palmon and Gomamon to be on the sidelines. Nice fight tho. Takari scene were ice is crashing and Takeru is looking out for her, but that’s what he’d do for anyone, and I’m honestly sick of her needing to be saved (happened like, three times this movie? Yuck no thanks)

Anyway Gennai plot drops and I don’t really get it but it looks like he was using Maki to make reboot so Digimon who were sealed away could be reborn and Meiko is needed for some reason (maybe due to Meikuumon’s virus?). Yggdrasil seems to be the big bad. Gennai is trying to get Meikuumon to do something but it won’t so he strangles Meiko until she passes out (I honestly don’t believe she’s dead) and Meikuumon evolves.

My thoughts:

Weakest movie so far. Many scenes were enjoyable but since the Digimon are memoryless, it didn’t add to development, character or plot wise. Enjoyable scenes were also dragged out too long, leaving little room for plot. Plot came out of nowhere and was unexplained (where the fuck are the 02 kids) and Sora honestly just cried a lot. This should have been her and Meiko’s movie, because Taito didn’t do much plotwise and Sora’s arc was written too weakly to carry the movie. At the end of the movie everyone kinda paused, going, ? oh, that’s it? It didn’t feel like a complete movie

Felt a little like filler. I enjoyed it, but I’m very worried about the pacing the last two movies need to fit everything in.

Especially if the epilogue is canon. They’re either glossing over everything (ie Sorato) or … I don’t know. Like, to show a relationship, all they need is Sorato standing next to each other, Yamato attempting to comfort her alone and like, one or two lines a movie where they show concern for each other on more than friends level. But Koumi + Jyou/Mystery Woman get more than that, so it’s worrying to see how it will end out.

I honestly don’t care if they rehash the epilogue. I like it as it is, but unless they did something majorly off like pair Meiko with Yamato I’d probably be happy with it (I only wouldn’t accept this as it comes out of nowhere). I don’t think there’s really been tonnes of Takari hints (some, yes) but I wouldn’t mind betting that Koumi has good chances of being canon, though Mimi doesn’t always seem to realise Koushirou likes her, so maybe not. But if any couple was going to be canon that wasn’t originally canon, that’s where I’d put money.
