i'll start with jori since she's the first one i created! i know it may not seem like it lately but she's the main baby of the other 2 main babies i have! ive projected so much of myself and interests onto her that i became attached quickly lmao! she's also the one who i insert into every piece of media that im consuming and like enough. like, if im playing dead space i totally imagine her in the place of isaac. or if im playing a backrooms game she's the one running around and trying to escape from the monsters lmfao! her story has taken different shapes and changes since i actually brought her over from red dead online. her twin brother, mika, doesnt exist in red dead online and was solely create for cyberpunk purposes. i love the pic on the left because i just think she looks really badass lmao! and i like the one on the right because im not usually patient enough to set up sets and backgrounds but this time i stuck it out and i loved it! it's simple compared to what others can do but im still proud of it!

next is the love of her life, driss! back when i first started getting into modding my game i actually shipped her with river. i was trying to get a cute shot of her and river looking out at the sunset over the ocean, but sine i was so new to modding i didnt know bigger characters like river had a different locomotion type so i couldnt get any poses to work. as a test i replaced an NPC couple with jori and driss and that was when i fell into a hole lmfao! i thought they looked so much better together so i kept them going! their ship name is Broken and Beautiful because both of them have past traumas that still effect them but they found comfort and understanding in each other. i love how soft both of these pics are! especially the fire behind them in the one on the right!

lottie is my second of the main 3! she also started out as a red dead online OC! i usually try to make her come off as a flowery, cottage core, disney princess aesthetic type. she's the softest and shyest of my OCs but she can be fierce too! she smiles at strangers in the street and will lend a hand if they look like they need it but she does it with caution because... its night city lmao! i chose these pictures in particular because i just thought they were the coolest ones. i do have some pics that showcase her as soft and flowery but i just couldnt resist showing these ones instead! the one on the left was made to be a tarot card called The World. the pic on the right was me trying out a greaser AU on her! i really love how they both came out!

the last of the main 3 is phoenix! i made her fully expecting to just leave her to collect dust, just like certain other OCs, (and i feel so bad for them 😔) but i became attached to her very quickly too. i based a chunk of her personality off of vash the stampede from the 1998 anime trigun. after a short while of that i actually ended up shipping her with him lmfao! currently she doesnt have a backstory because nothing has really inspired me yet but at least i know some things about her current life! i think these pics are perfect for show casing her as she currently is. she lives in clutter but not, like, dirty clutter if that makes sense? she just likes having stuff and buying things that interest her. i mean doesnt everyone? haha! she doesnt really save her money for anything other than rent and bills, everything else is purely impulse. her favorite treat is donuts and when she's willing to share one with you thats how you know she likes you! her favorite thing is to make people smile!

onto stuff that i made for other people! i really loves these pics that i took of mishka and claire for @thelonestrider! mishka looks SO GOOD in purple! and claire is chef's kiss! i had a lot of fun taking pics of her! i got such freeing vibes from her so i had to have her enjoying the sun's rays!

i took these ones for @holofishes and i totally consider wren to be one of jori's besties! i think they'd have so much to talk about and i get such warm vibes when i see them together! jori is usually very sweet and kind but when it comes to her friends she'd kick anyone's ass 😉 the sunflowers and butterflies in the first pic took so long to place! but it was totally worth it! they're both rays of sunshine!

Aaaaaand of course my insane, AU-spawning brain had to go, “Hey, hey you know what would be fun? Temporary Ace Attorney & The Stanley Parable universe swap!” Like, Miles and Phoenix temporarily swap places with the Narrator and Stanley - our favorite lawyer boys are now stuck in the office as narrator (Edgeworth) and protagonist (Phoenix), and Stanley and the Narrator are over in the AA universe (confused, horribly confused, neither of them are in any way prepared for this).

I just really like the idea of Phoenix being pretty gung-ho about exploring the office, meanwhile Edgeworth is desperately sorting through the Narrator’s scripts and papers trying to figure out what’s going on and also keep Phoenix from winding up in any of the more... unpleasant endings.

“Hey, Edgeworth, I’m gonna see what the red button does!”

“Wright, DO NOT, if you do I have to blow up the whole facility with you in it!”

“...change of plans, I will not be pushing the button.”

Though, gotta admit... after everything he’s been through, I can’t help but feel that the Zending would pose an unusual problem for the two of them, just because I genuinely don’t think that would be enough to kill Phoenix. They get to it because Edgeworth doesn’t catch that it’s a bad ending until they’ve already been in the zen room for a good hour enjoying the light show, only for them to discover the only way out. That’s probably the point where Edgeworth starts figuring out how to control the office better and how to manually reset. (They both remember resets in this.)

Being the opinionated fanboy he is, I also think that Edgeworth would take one look at the Narrator’s scripts and reach for a red pen, then eventually decide that he and Phoenix can do better. They’re in the office for at least two weeks, and they make at least half a dozen new endings in this time.

(Also, I feel I should specify, Edgeworth and Phoenix aren’t really better writers than the Narrator, because neither of them have much experience with it, they just had a bunch of fun collabing on things they thought would make good endings to the scenario or which would just be fun to add to the office. Which is why there’s a broken broom handle in the broom closet now that you can use to play samurai with.)

Meanwhile Stanley and the Narrator are just... so confused, especially the Narrator. They’re also why this happened, it was supposed to be a special crossover event, what the heck-??? And, because they’re currently in AA, the two of them help solve at least one murder while they’re there, through a combination of the Narrator’s genre-savvyness and Stanley’s willingness to poke his nose absolutely anywhere he can get it.

Returning home is a relief to Phoenix and Edgeworth, a mild disappointment to Stanley, and an outrage to the Narrator because someone?!?? Has been editing his scripts!?!??? How dare?!????!??!?!?!!?! His scripts are brilliant, genius, his story has no flaws that need such base language (though keep in mind this is Edgeworth who was doing it, he wasn’t ‘base’ so much as ‘exactly as eloquent as the Narrator, but he was typical levels of Edgeworth-in-court mean and the Narrator is Extremely Offended(tm)’). Also, what are all these new endings??? The Climbing the Roof ending? The Cafeteria ending? The- good heavens, the Samurai ending??? What does that have to do with-? The Romantic Date ending-?!?!??!??!?

Stanley listened exactly long enough to hear that there are new endings and also he can apparently get to the roof, he is now a man with a bucket and a mission, he can listen to the Narrator’s hysterics later.

A normal day at Jujutsu High, the students are training at the grounds to practice with their cursed techinques. Megumi gets a glimpse of Daichi's training and is curious. How will this day go out?

There is a day off at school today but it doesn't mean that the students can slack off. Today is training day meaning that the students must take the time to train with their cursed energy.

Right now, Megumi has subjugated another shikigami in his arsenal. The Piercing Ox. He got it thanks to his shikigami. Yuji got some done with his Divergent Fists and came up with new moves using his feet. The two are wondering what Kisho is up to. They see Kisho on an isolated hill. He is moving while flames are around. It's like he dancing or doing karate, using dynamic hand and feet movement. Yuji and Megumi are curious of what Kisho is up to so they go over to see what's going on.

"Hey...uh..." Yuji is conflicted. Should he call Kisho or Daichi.

'Just say 'hey dumbass', brat.' Sukuna grumbled. He is still sour about the goat that Daichi exorcised is now staying here as a spirit. Good thing, that Principal Yagi made a cursed doll for the spirit to go inside and possess it. Now the goat is more cuter much to Sukuna's displeasure.

'No way!' Yuji retorted.

Wilson the goat is now sleeping with Eito sitting on top of him, watching his partner train. Great, two more damn plushies! Sukuna rolled his eyes. He heard the goat helps Principal Yagi since the principal enjoys its company. Goddamnit.

"Oh hi, guys!" Kisho smiles. He is not wearing his glasses but he isn't wearing his uniform. More like activewear. He wears a tee and shorts with leggings underneath. His hair is wild, seeing the red strand. "What's up?"

"We're just here to train more! Looks like you have been training too!" Yuji smiled while Megumi wore a neutral expression.

"I am! I am now inspired in making movement with my flames!" Kisho grinned.

"We saw." Megumi said. "You don't usually throw fire or anything like you usually do. It's like you're dancing..." He said, curious. "Are you trying to do what Itadori does?"

"Somewhat! But yes, it looks like I'm dancing! But I'm not!"

"Oh? What is it?" Yuji asked. Kisho chuckles and does a pose, "It's called Firebending!"

This silences the duo. What???

"Fire...." Megumi said.

"Bending?" Yuji finished. Kisho nodded. "Yep."

"Hold on...." Where did Yuji hear that term before? "Isn't it from that show called Avatar?! Where people has the elements like fire, water, air, and earth?! That show?!"

"Indeed, Itadori!" Kisho smiles, happy that someone knows it.

"What's Avatar?" Megumi said. The boys gasped, making Megumi raise a brow at this. "What?"

"You never heard of Avatar The Last Airbender, Fushiguro?!" Yuji said, shocked. Sukuna doesn't know it either and is curious.

"How could you not know Avatar The Last Airbender?!" Kisho gasped. Megumi sighs, rolling his eyes, "Just tell me."

"Okay! It's an anime from America. It's like they're inspired by our anime so it's a story about...where people bend and control the water, earth, fire, and air. Four nations represent the four elements; The Water Tribe, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and the Air Noamds!"

"You mean manpiulate the elements?" Megumi said. Okay, Megumi gets it. Sounds interesting.

The boys nodded. Kisho continues, "Yeah. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony … " He frowns, "then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished."

"You make it sound like it's history." Megumi made a face.

"That's how the intro goes!" Kisho explained.

"I saw it and it's pretty good! You should watch it with us, Fushiguro! We should binge watch it" Said Yuji. Megumi nods, "Yeah sure. So...what you're doing is Firebending because you saw it from the show? And you're thinking of applying to your cursed technique?"

"Yep." Kisho said.

Megumi doesn't want to say this but he has to. Or someone else will and they're not going to be nice about it. Megumi said. "While it's good to put martial arts into your technique. You can't rely on cartoons or fictional shows to help you with your training." He said bluntly.

"Huh?!" Kisho said, blinking, "Why not?"

"Because cartoons don't apply to real life all the time, Kisho." Megumi tells him with a sigh, stating the obvious.

"Actually, Fushiguro. Firebending is inspired by Northern Shaolin kung fu!" Yuji informs him. Megumi raised a brow.

"It's true. All element bending is inspired by martial arts of this world!" Kisho answered as Yuji nods.

"Regardless, my point still stands," Megumi said. "It's good to be inspired but jujutsu sorcery is serious thing. If you said it like that, people might not take it well."

Kisho slump his shoulders, "Okay then.....so how am I supposed to do it into hand-to-hand? My techniques need some help somehow. Is there anyone who with cursed energy that uses martial arts?"

"I mean I do." Yuji said with his hand raised with a smile. "Mine is Taido Martial Arts along with MMA." He answered. "It helps a lot."

"There's one." Megumi points to Yuji.

"Okay! That's a good example. But I'm not as strong as you, Yuji! You're way better than me at that, especially with combat." Kisho said slumping his shoulders.

"Then there's Maki as she is skilled and uses martial arts and is master of using cursed tools. And she doesn't have cursed energy." Megumi sighed. Kisho seems surprised by this. "Wait she doesn't?"

"Huh? Didn't you know?" Yuji asked.

"I haven't! But if she doesn't have cursed energy, how would she see curses?" Unless she has other spiritual powers that aren't cursed energy.

"Her glasses." He answered. Now thinking about it, how would Kisho react to someone without cursed energy.

"Oh!" Kisho nods and accepts. "That's pretty cool!" Though, he wonders why Maki wants to become a sorcerer. Probably for personal reasons. But he won't pry into it. "I bet Maki-senpai would think Firebending is a good idea."

"Dude...she would wipe the floor with you if you tried that with her," Yuji said. Although...it would be good to see some bending in real life. Yuji is curious. Sukuna wanted to see what this Firebending is about. Shaolin monks?

"Okay, okay! But you know I'm just practicing, right? I need tio train my Firebending and do the The Dancing Dragon."

"The what now?" Megumi asked.

"It's an ancient form of firebending made by the Sun Warriors." Kisho grinned. Yuji beams, "Ohhh...I want to see."

"You...know it's a cartoon, right?" Megumi said.

"Yes but I call it inspiration." Kisho said, stubborn about it. "Besides Megumi, you should learn somethin from the show with your shadows!"

"Wait...there's Shadowbending?" Yuji asked. He doesn't remember that in the show.

"There is! There was a comic on it! But it's non-canon." Kisho said. "Megumi. Your curse technique to manipulate the shadows reminds me of Waterbending."

"Oh!" Yuji said before nodding, "Yeah, yeah, yeah! I can see that." Yuji said with his hand on his chin. Kisho smiles, "Right! Megumi, you can control shadows like water."

"And how is that going to work?" Megumi crossed his arms, "Water and shadows are two different things. With water, you can touch it, since it's physical....and with shadows...you can't touch it. You can only see it. I mean-"

"Huh? Then what about when you store your weapons inside your shadows?" Yuji points out.

"Yes but I have to bear the weight of them," Megumi explained.

"So like a backpack but in shadow form. A form of storage that has a limit like in a game." Kisho said. Megumi nods, "That's right. Not only that, I can conceal myself in shadows like objects and people, including my own."

"Woah." Yuji blinked.

"Dude! Megumi, you're seriously like a ninja!" Kisho said with stars in his eyes.

"Like Markkos Ninja!" Yuji laughed. Megumi makes a face hearing that with an eye twitch, "Don't remind me...." That name is so cringe, remembering it hurts when he first met Kisho or Daichi. Ugh. Same person.

Then Kisho had an idea. "Then if you can hide in shadows like that and hide items in it, can you touch people's shadows or affect them?"

Megumi raised a brow. "What do you mean?"

"You said...if you store items in it, you have to bear the weight of it, right? What if you can put something in someone's else shadow like let's say a curse user and you put a pile of bricks inside their shadow to slow them down? Would it work?" Kisho asked.

Megumi pauses. He never thought about it like that. "I....never try it." Because it didn't come to mind. That's something he can try in a spar.

"Or heck...what if you pull the shadow of an object what happens? Or change the shadow into some kind of weapon? Is it like a different dimension" He asked. Megumi never considers that either but he did use people's shadows as a way to hide himself.

"Well....I did use it as...like using shadows as a trap. Like when they step into it, they fall into it."

"Like a puddle? Or wait...pothole!" Yuji asked. Megumi nods. "Yeah."

Kisho and Yuji nod. "Oh! So is it like water-bending!" They both said.

"No, it's not!" Megumi yelled. "Ugh...look. Shadows aren't like water, okay. But..." He rolls his eyes, "What you mentioned, by putting weight in other shadows. I will try that." He said. And other things."Anyway. I'm going to go to the vending machine..." He said. "Anyone needs a drink?"

"Oh! A melon soda!" Kisho said.

"I want an aloe drink!" Yuji grinned. Megumi nods and goes on ahead. It's a bit of a distance but Megumi decides to try what Kisho suggested. He looks at a couple of rocks and a small tree. He goes to use a stone and decides to touch the tree's shadow. He drops a couple of rocks. Nothing. Then more rocks. Megumi heard a sound. A branch fell off. He blinks. It works.

Megumi will admit. Kisho says ridiculous things like his planning for example. But the questions he asked were something he never took note of. He thinks back to when Kisho suggested having Wilson the Goat as his shikigami. That was a no. But....

'Why only ten, why not more?'

It's true. Why not more? Megumi thinks back to it as he is now at the vending machine, pressing the options. But it just isn't possible. How could he expand to Eleven or Twelve shadows? it's not an innate technique, it's an inherited technique but hasn't any sorcerer before him tried to do it? It wasn't said in the record. In a way, it sounds like Kisho wants to push the limit further. Mergumi isn't sure if that's ambitious or dangerous.

Then he hears a huge kaboom! It's coming from hill where Kisho and Yuuji are. What the hell?!

Megumi rushed back to the training grounds and heard shouting. Wait...are they're arguing? Both Kisho and Yuuji are glaring at each other as they panted. Were they sparring?! When did that happened?

"Jennifer Lawerance has a big ass and she's cool!" Yuuji yelled.

A record sratched.

What? Megumi stared.

"No! Anne Hathaway! She has the look and the ass! She's good! Way better than Lawerance!"

'What the hell is this?' Megumi uttered, hearing this nonsense.

"HUH?!" Yuuji can't believe it. Megumi can already guess that Sukuna also going, 'What the hell did I get himself into.'

"Yeah well...my type is in the Hunger Games and she's popular! Way popular!"

"That's all she was ever known for! To be the greatest actress, you must adapt to all roles! Hathaway has all that! She even voiced a cat in a Ghibli Film. Can Lawarence voice act?! I don't think so! She has ass and the assets. She's better."

"Oh yeah?! Anne Hathaway is in some dumb movies! Like Ocean's Eleven! Who asks for that?! At least, Lawarance has three movies and was in X-Men movies!" Yuuji said.

Are...they fighting over this stupidity? Megumi thought. Sukuna, Eito and Wilson are watching this like it's pure entertainment.

"Oh yeah?! X-Men?! That has been done already. Hathaway has classics going for her. The Devil Wears Parda! It was nominated for Oscars!"

"Yeah, well....Lawrence won awards for American Hustle!' Yuuji asked. "So take that!"

Why me? Megumi groans internally.

"Anna Hathaway is BETTER!" Kisho readies a fire arrow.

"NO! Jennifer Lawrence!" Yuuji shouted, raising his fists imbuing them in cursed energy. He picks up a huge rock and is ready to throw at Kisho. Megumi just came back from getting drinks from a vending machine like....just for a few minutes. How did this escalate to a full-blown argument. Quickly, Megumi forms a shadow puppet with his fingers and summons Max Elephant. The shikigami trumpets its trunk and launch water at the both boys, drenching them in water!

"Fushiguro!"

"You guys are both idiots.' Megumi said. "Are you trying to make a mess out of this ground?" He asked them sternly. "Over something like this?" He asked them.

Both boys look at each other and went, "YES!"

Oh my god.

"Megumi! Who do you like more? Anne Hathaway or Jennifer Lawrence?" Kisho asked.

"YEAH! WHO?!" Yuji asked. Are they serious? Megumi twitched an eye. "Do I look like I care?" He asked. Before the boys said anything, a king interjects.

"You both are idiots." Sukuna's mouth appears on Yuuji's cheek. "Kinie Ger is the most beautiful one than both of your so-called idols."

Megumi groans internally.

Kinie shouts, "KINIE GER IS NOT FAMOUS! HOW SHE IS-"

"I'm sorry...what did you said, Kisho?" Sukuna's tone changed dangerously.

"Nothing." Kisho quickly answered as he doesn't want to get smack around.

"Thought so." Sukuna answered. Megumi shakes his head, "Let's head over to where Nobara and the others are. They're probably training as well. Let's see what they're up to." Megumi said, wanting to see how the others doing.

"I heard little sister is working on that barrier technique of hers!" Yuji asked, hearing about Taz. Kisho nods, "So is Yuria and Mike with their cursed techniques!" He smiled. The two quickly forget the subject of 'whose celebrity is better' as they want to know how girls do. Megumi sighs, and leads the way.

As they got to the other training grounds, the girls seem to be exciting at what Yuria is doing.

"Wow! So Kisho help you with that?" Taz asked. Yuria nods her head. "Of course, thanks to him! I can able to do this!" Yuria said.

"Do what?" Kisho asked as he, Megumi and Yuji arrived.

Nobara is the first to tell them. "Yuria can shoot cursed energy from her finger tips!" She said, grinning. Taz nods, "Yeah! It's so cool!"

"No need to praise me!" Yuria laughed. "I just need a good aim and I will be rocking it!"

"Can I see?" Kisho asked her to which Yuria smiles, happy to be ask edabout it. "Right! Miko!"

"Right!" Miko smiles as she sets up a bottle at the railing. "It's all yours!" She said, backing away from the bottle. "Right!" Yuria raised her right hand and holds her wrist with her left. Cursed energy begins to surround and then is channel to a singer point. She does a finger gun gesture as something is powering up at the tip of her finger. The boys were amazed and then...

"SPIRIT GUN!" Yuria fires and immediately, hits the bottle shattering it. Yuria blows an imaginary smoke at her finger.

"Yuria! That was amazing! Freaking cool" Kisho exclaimed, clapping his hands as he is so proud of her. Yuria blushes as she heard this. Yuji nods. "Right! So cool! That was some good shooting!" But the name of that technique sounds so familiar. Where did he hear it from.

"How did you learn something like that?" Megumi is genuinely curious. Yuria smiles and skips to her bag, taking something out. "Kisho, give me this manga to learn and I found it!" She smiles. The name of the manga is YuYu Hakusho!

Megumi stares in disbelief. "What?'

"Oh!" Yuuji now gets it. "That makes sense! The Spirit Gun is something for anyone to use! I wish I could of thought that!" He said while Sukuna groans, 'In that ridicioulus stance?! You can leave yourself open!'

"Oh come on, Sukuna! You have to admit it's pretty cool!" Yuuji argued.

Nobara hums, "So reading manga gives you an idea! It sounds like a non-innate technique!" She said. "This can help the assistant managers!"

"That must be cool!" Taz said. Yuria said with a nod, "It's true but it's harder than it looks. I end up brushing few fingers of my finger in getting it down! But all you need to do is channel the concentration of cursed energy in the fingers, which is released in your mind. Like pulling a trigger technique. That's how little guy say it in the book." She explained. Yuuji, Taz and Nobara paused hearing this and nods. "Uh-huh."

Megumi process this and asks, "And this is how the book explains it?"

"Well..I guess." Yuria shrugs. "But that's what training is all about! No pain, no gain!" She smiled. Megumi narrows his eyes, noting the bandages on her fingers and says, "Kisho...." He said his name as waves of danger emit from the shadow sorcerer made Kisho and Eito sweat drops. Yuji, Nobara and Taz are now gulping.

That tone, again. Kisho is in trouble now!

"Wow! Look at the time, Rioto must be calling me by now!" Kisho quickly said, hurried himself out of there with Megumi glaring at his back. "KISHO!"

"SORRY! I GOT TO GO!"

"WHAT KIND OF STUFF ARE YOU TEACHING YURIA AND MIKO?!" Megumi yelled.

"OH COME ON! IT WORK! WE JUST DISCOVER A NEW NON INANTE TECHNIQUE FOR ANYONE TO USE! YURIA IS THE FIRST ONE TO DO IT!"

"SHE BRUISED HER FINGERS!!"

"Uhhhh...." Yuria asked, sweat dropping. "I didn't know it was that serious."

"I mean...brusing your fingers...gotta hurt." Yuji said. Does Kisho about this?! It's a bit risky.

"Didn't you tell anyone? Does Kisho teach you knowing that?" Nobara asked with concern. Yuria shakes her head, "No. I just want to surprise Kisho. He gave me manga based on the supernatural to get inspiration fro. I mean he helps out a lot! I didn't think it was that bad. I mean...if I have to go up against curses, I need something to defend myself." Yuria said. "The Spirit Gun does it and you have to cut through the pain to sue it."

Good point. But someone needs to change the name because that's going to be copyright issue.

"Oh! That reminds me. Kisho is planning to add some martial arts to his technique!" Yuuji asked. Miko is now interested, "Like what?"

"Firebending."

"Oh from Avatar The Last Airbender?" Taz asked, knowing of it with a smile. Nobara blinks and made a face, "Don't tell me it's...

'Wow. It's like that idiot relies on fantasy books to teach people in develop cursed techniques instead of going for something practical and focus on the basic ones first.' Sukuna commented. 'Yeah. PERSONALITY: Sakura is vibrant and outgoing, used to having all eyes on her when she walks into a room. She has always been good with people, easily making friends that she is fiercely loyal to and protective of. A social butterfly, she loves gossiping and chit chatting and handing out compliments, thriving in a crowd.

Growing up in the fashion industry, she did learn some bad habits. In addition to being overly critical of herself and constantly striving for perfection (physical and otherwise), she can also be judgemental, shallow, and a bit catty towards others. While she has been trying to correct her behaviour, mean girl comments do slip out from time to time. Old habits die hard, after all.

HISTORY: When Mihyeon Choi and Akari Miya went on a girls’ trip to Mexico, they did not expect to hook up with the same mysterious man. Nor did they expect to both get pregnant. And they certainly didn’t expect to fall in love. But by the time their babies arrived, they were very much in love and ready to raise their children together.

Sakura was born only six days after her older brother, Lupin. Sakura’s biological mother, Akari, was a makeup artist; but the little girl took after her other mother, Mihyeon, who was an actress and model. She started modelling before she could even talk, and she never stopped. She was a natural in front of the camera, captivating and  charismatic - traits that also carried over into her everyday life.

Booked and busy, but never pressured by her loving mothers, Sakura was homeschooled by a private tutor between photoshoots. While she started with commercial modelling, by the time she was fourteen she was doing high-fashion shoots. The many connections that her parents had certainly helped her career, but she also worked very hard to make sure that she looked flawless and knew exactly how to pose to get the perfect photo. And, of course, she always had the help of her moms and big brother behind the scenes.

Nothing really seemed odd about the siblings until they were sixteen. Walking home from the movies one night, they were attacked by a hulking figure with the body of a man and the head of a bull. At first, Sakura just stood there, thinking she was hallucinating - she must have been, a Minotaur was something out of a mythology book. But the creature proved itself to be very real when it charged at them, grabbed her around the waist with one massive hand, and lifted her into the air like she was a doll.

She could barely breathe and all she could hear was the sound of her blood rushing in her ears, but some kind of instinct kicked in. As the beast sniffed at her, she shoved her hand into her purse and grabbed the first thing she touched: a nail file. Without even thinking about it, she raised it over her head and plunged the sharp end it into the minotaur’s eye. It screamed and dropped her eight feet to the ground, but she managed to land without hurting herself.

In the end, they killed the minotaur. And Sakura promised herself that she was never going to freeze up like that again.

Unfortunately, creatures kept finding them. Frightening chimeras straight out of fairytales and fantasy books would lurk in the shadows and strike out at opportune times. Over time, it become harder to hide from their mothers, and the siblings began to worry that their entire family was in danger. If a monster ever showed up when she and Lupin weren’t around… Sakura couldn’t even bear to consider what might happen.

So, now adults, they left home began travelling. They always kept in touch with their mothers, of course, but they knew it was too dangerous to be close to them. Sakura’s modelling and Lupin’s acting, as well as skill as a makeup artist, provided good cover for their real purposes. They could find work pretty much anywhere they went, and they could also hunt down monsters before the monsters tried to hunt them.

They became highly skilled, both in tracking and fighting mythical creatures. It was proactive, in Sakura’s mind. It made her feel like she was in control of something that had long felt so incredibly out of her control.

Until the nogitsune.

After a successful magazine photoshoot in rural Japan, they began hunting a nogitsune that had been terrorizing the locals. They found it deep in the forest, near a beautiful waterfall. Almost like the monster was trying to lull them into a false sense of serenity.

The fight was brutal. The nogitsune played dirty, using poison and magic and illusion to disorient and distract them. Just as Sakura was beginning to fear that this was a battle they couldn’t win, Lupin collapsed. And then, before she could react, there were two Lupins in the clearing. Luckily, Sakura figured out which one was the imposter just before it could try to kill the real Lupin.

She stabbed the nogitsune while it wore her brother’s face, but it managed to get in a near-fatal blow, ripping open a large wound in her side. Everything was fuzzy for Sakura after that. A whirl of trees and hotels and airports and a bridge that she was in and out of consciousness for. When she finally woke up feeling like herself again, she was in Asclepius Hospital.

PANTHEON: Mayan CHILD OF: Xbalanque POWERS: Sakura is highly skilled in a variety of weapons and combat styles, and she has especially sharp instincts when battling mythical creatures. STRENGTHS: Charismatic and personable; very physically fit and stronger than she looks; extremely protective and loyal. US heatwave could set new 54C record

Parts of the US are expected to see record temperatures on Sunday, with warnings of "dangerous" heat levels into next week across the south-west. Nearly a third of Americans - about 113 million people - are currently under heat advisories, from Florida to California and up to Washington state. The country's National Weather Service (NWS) has urged people not to underestimate the risk to life. On Saturday, an all-time high of 118F (48C) was recorded in Phoenix, Arizona. It means temperatures have hit 110F (43C) for 16 days running, itself almost a record. Mobile clinics there have reported treating homeless people suffering from third-degree burns. Meanwhile, Death Valley in California - one of the hottest places in the world - is forecast to reach 129F (54C), nearing the hottest temperatures ever reliably recorded on Earth. The NWS has said that local records could also be set on Sunday in the San Joaquin Valley, Mojave Desert, and Great Basin regions. Its Saturday-evening update said the temperatures would "pose a health risk and are potentially deadly to anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration". About 700 people are estimated to die each year from heat-related causes in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In neighbouring Canada, officials say wildfires stoked by above-average temperatures - which have covered parts of the US in smoke - have now burned nearly 10 million hectares (25 million acres) of land. The temperatures in America's south-west are the result of an upper level ridge of high pressure, which typically brings with it warmer temperatures, the NWS said earlier, adding that the heatwave was "one of the strongest" systems of its kind to hit the region. Las Vegas, Nevada, may also match its all-time high of 117F (47C) in the next few days. Weather officials there warned locals who thought they could handle the temperatures that this was "not your typical desert heat". "'It's the desert, of course it's hot'- This is a DANGEROUS mind set!", the NWS in Las Vegas tweeted. Ace Attorney 20th Anniversary Character Poll (and how to participate in it!)

Hey there. If you haven’t heard the news, Weekly Famitsu Magazine (a Japanese gaming magazine which has, historically, been where many new ace attorney games are announced) is going to have an article releasing on October 21st featuring Ace Attorney for the upcoming 20th Anniversary.

This is pretty decent news, I think, though we don’t know yet if there’s going to be a new game announcement or any other sort of news. What is confirmed is that they’re going to run a fan poll where you can vote on your favorite characters, cases, and Payne hairstyles, among other things.

This does not ask for personal information, and as far as I can tell, you don’t need to be in Japan to respond. The poll is, however, solely in Japanese, and I assume they’re expecting answers in Japanese as well. I took the liberty with the help of google translate to attempt to make a rough translation of the poll, and you can follow along with this and fill it out yourself if you wish! Keep in mind this may not necessarily be extremely accurate, because google translate, and if anyone knows better than I do, please do correct me!

The poll closes September 30th 2021 11:59 PM Japan time - so there’s not a lot of time to fill it out!

Also, keep in mind that this will address characters that appear in all of the games, though no major plot spoilers are present.

I recommend using google translate on the webpage if you can, it makes things a bit easier to navigate. I didn’t put the Japanese phrases next to the translated answers, since there was no option to copy+paste, so it would take up too much of my time - I can if someone really wants me to, though. Don’t solely rely on google translate though, as sometimes it will do things like translate “Naruhodo Ryunosuke” to “Phoenix Wright”.

As well, for some things like character responses, you may want to double-check their names on the wiki, just in case I got something wrong (which is quite likely.)

Since that is a LOT to navigate, use the Japanese to help you. The games are laid out pretty simply: if you know the game and case, you can find it pretty quickly. It goes mainline -> Investigations -> TGAA -> PLvsAA. Mainline Ace Attorney games are 逆転裁判 followed by a number corresponding to which entry it is, with the exception of the first game (which is first on the list anyways). Investigations games start with 逆転検事 and followed with a 2 for investigations 2. Great Ace Attorney starts with  大逆転裁判 with a 2 for Resolve, and Layton vs Ace Attorney is  レイトン教授 VS 逆転裁判. After the game title you can find the case number.

For some reason, Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice’s DLC cases don’t seem to be on this list. Sorry if those are your favorites. Maybe yell in the free response box about that.

I can’t remember if I sent an ask to you or therealvinelle about Bella’s relationships to women outside of Alice and posing the question if she had a sister. I wanted to specifically know what happens to the canon if she has a twin sister (I think I just said sister in the other ask)? Does she and the sister die? Does the sister die? Does Twilight not happen at all? More importantly is Edward also unable to read the sister’s mind and is compelled by her blood?

I can't remember either, but I'm certainly here now.

First, for reference, that one time Bella had a twin brother. Things got weird.

And now, that time Bella had a twin sister. God help us. I have no idea where this will take us. I feel like, after Beauford/Bella, I should be drinking for this.

Bella Has a Twin Sister/Does Twin Sister Have the Same Gift and Smell

First, @farrahda5hy does not specify whether this is a fraternal twin or an identical twin sister. This makes a difference. A fraternal twin is unlikely to have the holy cocktail that's sure to catch Edward's interest and also unlikely to have the same manifestations of her gift (if she is, in fact, gifted at all).

So even though you asked the question last I think it's the one we need to address first: can Edward read sister's mind and is she his singer?

Coin toss. Identical, presumably also a singer due to the biological makeup of the blood. Fraternal, Bella 2.0 (We'll call her Cella for the sake of this post), and she'll just smell pleasant but not L'eau de Murder Biology pleasant. Same with the gift, fraternal, very unlikely to be the same exact gift, might have similar applications but probably not the same amount of power/same manifestations. Identical... more likely.

There's really no definitive answer here, it's very up in the air.

Does Canon Change?

Maybe, maybe not, it depends.

Cella may not want to go to Forks in 2005 as Bella did.

Bella left feeling like she was a burden on her mother and Phil's fledgling marriage. Bella has absolutely no self esteem and felt the best thing she could do was be out of the way, even in a town she hates. Cella... may not go along with that. Cella's likely still messed up from being raised by Renee, but she may have different issues than Bella.

She may be more angry vs. the low self esteem, may have trouble in school, and may not want to go. Why leave her high school for the last year and a half so she can go to Forks. A town she and Bella hate. So what if Renee wants to go hang around Phil, she can go, Cella's seventeen and legally an adult. If Renee wants to leave for weeks at a time then Cella can handle it.

Bella may very well go to Forks alone, in which case, canon happens but with a few extra phone calls to a mysterious sister who goes, "WHAT THE HELL, BELLA?!" every few weeks when something weird happens. Then Bella gets married to some guy who looks like a hot alien, Cella has no words.

Cella may be very similar to Bella, or else be talked into going to Forks. Let Phil and Renee have fun, it's only a few years, and they should probably see Charlie. In which case we're back in the realm of your questions.

Does Cella Get Eaten?

If she's fraternal, no.

I imagine she's treated much like canon treats Charlie. Edward at first is amazed by this girl who is Bella's wonderful twin sister and a part of Bella's wonderful family. Cella, probably thinks Edward's really weird and kind of creepy, but he is hot and when he comes over for dinner does his best to be charming. Like Charlie, she's probably won over for a bit. This falls apart as shit keeps happening and Cella starts disapproving of Edward, then Edward's opinion of her tanks as she becomes yet another obstacle to his and Bella's grand love.

Bella may or may not tell Cella details. I'm going to say she probably doesn't because Cella may tell Bella to stay away from Edward (not an option) or else simply may not understand. More, Bella vowed to keep this secret safe for Edward, that she wouldn't tell anyone, and that anyone includes her sister.

So Cella just gets a front row seat to Bella's concerning and erratic behavior throughout the series including the flight to Phoenix (where she says she hates them both and stomps off), the New Moon depression, the flight to Italy (no explanation is given), and her sudden marriage to Edward Cullen.

And, of course, Cella getting to meet Edward's "niece" who looks a little too much like Bella.

At least Charlie and Cella are in this together.

If Cella's identical, there's a good chance she gets eaten. That's twice the amount of temptation for Edward and twice the chances he might fail. That said, he may also try to induct her and Bella into a harem while not admitting he's making a harem.

The ultimate love triangle ensues. Does Edward love Bella or does he love Cella? Which one will he marry? Oh his heart is torn in two! Such a love cannot be and he can't even pick which one! He flips a coin, either Bella or Cella gets married to Edward and ends up carrying the Renesmee equivalent but... he probably has an emotionally charged affair with the other on the sly. He just can't choose man, never could. Especially after Cella and or Bella get turned (of course, if one gets turned the other probably ends up turned as well, such is life).

The vast majority of Twilight likely doesn't happen, or at least, not in a familiar manner as now the love triangle is which tasty sister does Edward pick. So hard. So many choices.

Do Both Get Eaten?

It's on the table, the odds weren't in Edward's favor with Bella, that means eating both girls is certainly an option (especially if Cella's identical and a singer as well).

TL;DR I think this one was a little too broad to tackle from all the angles you wanted. If you want something more streamlines, you're going to have to set a few more ground rules.

EDIT:  @farrahda5hy pointed out that I had apparently forgotten the legal age was 18. Regardless, Cella could still opt to stay with Renee. Would Renee be happy? No, but then Cella wouldn’t bein Forks.

some thoughts on one of the datamined/leaked characters and Inazuma

Specifically, about this funky Aetherface-looking dude + some stuff about the Electro Archon got in too, somehow :/

(watch as this gets debunked into the ground when the Inazuma update is released)

What are the scraps that we know of him so far? Well, his name is “Kazuha”, and he’s going to be an Anemo Sword!

Yeah there’s been some prior misinformation about him being a pyro polearm (even I thought he was going to be pyro sword), but that was more just him getting confused with this other guy called “Tohama” (who’s also supposed to be Ayaka’s (arranged) fiancée? No idea how that’s going to turn out). Plus, you can see Kazuha’s Anemo Vision on the second pic here:

It appears to be an autumn motif instead, which is also pretty cool and can still tie into the wind theme

The second thing I did notice though (first being ooooo new pyro character) was that he looked like a samurai. It’s also why I had doubts about him being a polearm user.

*[Yes I know historical samurais have used bows and spears in the past. But even Japanese media pushes the “samurai = katanas” angle, and Kazuha strikes me as more of a “pop culture-style Japanese swordsman” than a historically-accurate one if you get what I’m saying.]

To digress a little; how’s Inazuma looking? Well, according to Zhongli: the Electro Archon, also known as “Baal” or “Raiden”, has issued a “Vision Hunt Decree” to confiscate her people’s visions and decorate them on the hands of a “thousand-armed statue”, as well as closing off the country. Furthermore, it is said that no one has received an Electro Vision in a year in-story by “the will of the Electro Archon”.

There is a runaway NPC from Inazuma to Liyue called “Atsuko”, who provides a tangible picture of Inazuma’s current state of affairs:

As pointed out in this reddit post, Baal’s actions are a parallel to other real life Japanese rulers such as Toyotomi Hideyoshi & Tokugawa Ieyasu; from closing the country and confiscating swords (visions) from the populace, up to melting all the swords to create a giant metal statue (that one didn’t work, but it’s the thought that counts).

**[my personal thoughts on this is that someone or something else has either succeeded or stole Baal’s position as the Electro Archon, which would explain the sudden extreme personality change.

Like, try to think of this in terms of the in-story timeline - the lockdown specifically happened a year ago; no one knows what’s going on inside Inazuma, nor does Inazuma know anything about the outside world. Thus, the Electro Archon shouldn’t know about ‘recent events’ like Venti getting his gnosis stolen or Zhongli’s “”death””, so her/their(?) current actions are definitely not influenced by what’s happening to the other Archons - this was something the Electro Archon decided to do on their own, independently of the Tsaritsa’s/Fatui’s plans.

Venti has explained before that anybody with a vision is capable of becoming a god, so the possibility is there. Hell, they may even be posing as Baal and hiding the truth of their ascension for some reason.

If you’re familiar with Japanese history, then think about how Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa came to power in the first place.

To summarize briefly: Hideyoshi was originally a vassal of another warlord called “Oda Nobunaga”, who united most of Japan. However, Nobu was betrayed and killed by another one of his vassals known as “Akechi Mitsuhide”, so Hideyoshi stepped up and finished the rest of the job.

After Hideyoshi’s death, Tokugawa (and 4 other men) was supposed to look over his son until he was of age to rule. But Tokugawa was growing in popularity at the time, so he stepped to take power himself.

So in the context of the Genshin story, perhaps the “Toyotomi Hideyoshi” and “Akechi Mitsuhide” figures are being fused together (aka: this person killed the previous Electro Archon and took her place). Or it’s a Stanley/Venti’s friend situation 2.0

Plus, it’s added dramatic irony to the whole ‘God of Eternity’ also being the god of lightning; something fundamentally transient and brief. Their so-called ‘eternity’ is as fleeting as a lightning bolt, or something.]

Anyways, back to Kazuha.

If we’re going with the implication that the Archons are responsible for giving out their respective elemental Visions (others have theorized about this too); then what does that say about Kazuha, who has an Anemo Vision (proudly displayed in full view too!) given by the God of Freedom?

I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that Kazuha may turn out to be a “wandering vagrant” or “ronin”-archetype character; kinda like what Miyamoto Musashi does. A vagabond that wanders the land and maybe hides in a village once in a while, but never having an established home.

Of course, there’s still plenty of unknowns such as what his actual personality is like - but I think that with this, we can narrow down one part of his character concept at least.

Take another look at his character design: Kazuha is associated with “autumn”, which invokes the imagery “falling leaves in the wind from a tree” and “the passing of something”; possibly exemplifying Kazuha’s nature as a ‘wanderer’ who never stays in one place for too long, and perhaps the presence of a former/deceased master or organization(?).

Furthermore, Kazuha has very albino-esque features with white hair and red eyes, which could further indicate him being a “outcast”. Razor is another character with white hair and red eyes, and he’s very much an “outcast” from ‘normal’ human civilization too - what with being raised by wolves and all. (there’s also some people who think Kazuha and Razor could be long-lost brothers, which is kinda eeeeehhhhhhh 🤷 for me)

Combining that with the historical context of “confiscating swords = confiscating visions”, that would make Kazuha either:

A: a wanderer from the start, and thus far enough away from Inazuma’s capital to avoid the initial Vision Hunt order when it started

B: went on the run after the “Vision Hunt Decree” was issued

Either way, by refusing to give away his “sword” (vision), it would most likely make Kazuha a high-profile criminal and wanted target in Inazuma. Possibly with a bounty included too.

By the way, as some have already pointed out: some significant characters (interestingly, most of the gods) in Genshin share design similarities with other Honkai Impact characters (another Mihoyo-made game). For more examples, here’s official art of Fu Hua (a Honkai character) that makes her look suspiciously like Zhongli.

I’m bringing this up because some twitter users have pointed out that Kazuha seemingly looks like Fu Hua in her [Phoenix] battlesuit:

Is this just a coincidence, or does it really hold some deeper meaning? Personally speaking, I’d prefer that Kazuha stays human, but I guess another god isn’t too bad either :X

Haley's Hobbies

Chasing the writing spirit while I still got the drive and time. Thanks for @runawayface for posing the question of, "Who in the Valley has a weird hobby?"

Summary: What if photography wasn't Haley's only hobby?

If Haley ever had to choose, it was photography. 100% In a heartbeat.

But also, photography required good lighting and when you specialized in landscapes and nature shots, good weather was pretty important unless she wanted to risk her equipment in the rain. No thanks. So, on days or weeks when photography and beach trips weren’t super viable, Haley indulged in her lesser-known hobby.

It started one day when her sister suddenly decided to clean out the spare room and convert it to her new sewing room. Em had made Haley go through all the boxes of stuff their family had never thrown out. Emily had insisted only old family things could go up to the attic and Haley was only allowed to keep things if she could find space in her room. Lame. And that’s how a box filled to the brim with old Ever After dolls, sat in the corner of her room. Least until she finally looked up if it was really worth reselling some of the ones still in their boxes online. The fact there was a market meant Haley was right not listening to Em and holding on to them. Ha.

Haley was more surprised that there seemed to be people interested in the ones out of boxes too. She’d already sold off a good portion of the figures still in the best condition by the time she figured out why they seemed to be such hot commodities one rainy day. People repainted dolls? Weird, how? Her curiosity had gotten the best of her, as one video turned into dozens, and she’d fallen down the rabbit hole of doll modification, and, like it didn’t seem super hard to repaint and give them new hair. She still had a few dolls a little too raggedy to sell and some old pastels and little nail brushes and acetone. She could so totally do it.

And for a first attempt, it actually wasn’t terrible. But Haley knew she could do better. Plus she had a stock box now. Haley just needed to try a little more seriously. Get some Mr. Super Clear, and some good pencils, and some nylon for the hair. She already had the gel lamp if she ever wanted to work with resin and… Things may have spiraled out from there.

Alex refused to come over for movies anymore when the weather was bad. Not unless Haley promised on her Gran’s bracelet that the mini mannequins had been put away after an incident involving him spotting a couple of naked dolls... hanging out her bedroom window...on some clothes hanger... you know, to dry. That and jars of acetone with doll heads littering Haley’s vanity.

Em had even offered to share the sewing room, letting it be more of a communal hobby space where they spent rainy days crafting together, Emily making clothes on a large scale, while Haley worked in miniature accessories, occasionally collabing on dolly couture.

Even if she had a couple hundred followers on instagram for her Dollie_inda_Valley account, it wasn’t a hobby Haley advertised to everyone. So when she pulled Jas as her Winter Star recipient. I mean it wasn’t like Haley was gonna half ass it just because it was going to go for a kid. What kind of doll would like though? Haley didn’t really know much about Marnie aside from her affair with the mayor, and even less about her extended family. Haley guessed Jas probably liked animals if she lived on the Ranch, and didn’t they, like advertise raising some blue chickens during the fair last season? It was something, and honestly, Haley thought she did a pretty damn good job, given that was her start.

A blue-flamed phoenix was kind of like a glamorous blue chicken.

Haley had picked out an old Cedar Wood doll, painting delicate, fire-inspired patterns in gold across her limbs and face, making sure to avoid the joints as much as possible so the paint wouldn’t chip when Jas played with it. Em had helped create the doll's clothing, a mostly blue tutu-inspired dress with a dramatic train that faded from a deep royal blue, into reds and yellows. The color palette extended to the doll’s hair, a royal blue, with the more traditional fire colors peaking up from the under layer. Haley elected for yarn plugs, partially to speed up the rerooting process, but also because it would give the doll a hair texture more similar to Jas’. Haley was cutting it close after redoing the face-up. The first attempt was glam and powerful and totally her style, but maybe Jas would prefer something softer. Days before the gift exchange, Haley went a full 180 on the face, going for something softer, sweeter more like a blue reimaging of the town school teacher. Shimmery gold freckles peppering the doll’s deeper complexion. Haley had worked through the night adding more and more gold bracelets, and chains and hair beads onto the doll’s design to maintain the regal appearance she’d first come up with, but it was done, and she was ready, gift box under her arm as she went with Emily to the town square. She hoped Jas would like her present.

I open the door and both men greet me with a big smile.

"You look marvelous!" Diavolo claps his hands.

"I have to agree. Let's take a picture of you." Barbatos already has a camera ready to go.

I suddenly start to feel self-conscious, remembering the time Barbatos took a picture of my ball outfit.

"No need to feel nervous." Diavolo pats my shoulder with an encouraging smile.

"I feel like a child on their first day of school." I giggle slightly embarrassed.

"I should have prepared a school enrollment party." Diavolo sighs deeply when the realization hits him.

"No need to do that just for my first day of school." I don't want this much fuss.

"We have a special dinner tonight. I'm sure that will suffice." Barbatos simultaneously makes us both feel better. Truly a professional.

“That sounds great, but how about we take a picture together instead?" I just realize we haven't done that yet.

Both seem a bit surprised by my suggestion but then both smile.

"That's a wonderful idea. Let's do it right away." Diavolo is on board with this plan.

"I will prepare so get ready, you two." Barbatos sets up the camera with a calm smile.

Diavolo gets a chair out and sits down so he can be in frame with me. I move closely next to him. It's a bit embarrassing.

"Looking good." Barbatos comes up next to us and takes a position on my other side. "Are you both ready?" Barbatos has a remote in his hand.

"Yes, I'm ready. Say, cheese everyone!" I smile, feeling strangely excited.

"Cheese?" Diavolo looks confused.

"It's a human thing that makes everyone smile," I explain to him.

"Ah, then let's do that." Diavolo is very excited about this for some reason.

"Cheese!" We all call out.

It's pretty fun and I have a suggestion. "We should take a few silly pictures too. I know it's silly but it's something I always wanted to do. We could strike a few silly poses or make a strange face."

"That's something I always wanted to do!" Diavolos' eyes sparkle brightly.

Barbatos looks a little bit troubled.

"You don't have to if you feel uncomfortable." I feel bad if I force him to do this.

"Oh no, I just never thought that anyone would ask such a thing of me. Just make sure to keep it a secret." Barbatos eyes Diavolo with that last part.

Diavolo sighs lightly. "Alright, I will keep these pictures a secret, as regrettable as it is."

"So you want to do it?" I start to feel pretty excited somehow.

"Yes, let's do it." Barbatos agrees without any hesitation. It's a bit surprising to me but it makes me very happy.

We all continue the photoshoot with silly faces and poses. It's a lot of fun for all of us.

"I will treasure all of these greatly." Barbatos smiles while looking through the pictures.

"We need to make copies of these right away. I think I will put them in the heirloom treasury." Diavolo peeks over Barbatos` shoulder with a broad smile.

It's a bit embarrassing that they treat this as a huge event but it makes me smile regardless. "I will treasure them for sure." I smile softly at both of them.

The look they give me warms my heart.

"I fear I still have some work to do." Diavolo sighs deeply.

Barbatos nods. "I agree but it pleases me that you have come to that conclusion on your own."

Diavolo ignores the snide remark completely. "I have to set a good example."

I know this is aimed at me and it makes me feel strangely proud.

"I'm glad to hear that. I'm grateful that you have such a great influence on the young lord." Barbatos looks at me, with a very pleased expression.

"I'm sure Diavolo has been working hard before I came too." He is the demon prince after all. Even when he seems a bit reluctant to work, he usually seems pretty motivated.

"I'm glad you said that." Diavolo smiles proudly.

Barbatos sighs lightly. "Well, regardless of the past, we have a lot to do today."

"In that case, do your best. I hope we see each other at lunch or dinner later." I understand how much Diavolo has to do and know Barbatos has much on his plate as well.

Diavolo puts a hand casually on my shoulder. "With this much encouragement, I can only do great. We will eat dinner together. It's a promise!" Diavolo sounds sure of it and I can only smile at his level of motivation.

"I'm looking forward to it already. I think I will study a bit more of the demon language. It's not easy, but I found a good service to help me." I know it won't be easy for me going forward but I feel pretty motivated.

"I will gladly assist you if needed. I might be busy assisting the young lord today but just call my name and I will be right there." Barbatos offers me a calm smile.

"Thank you very much. I promise I will take it easy." I stretch and bow to both of them.

"I'm glad to see you being so motivated. This makes me want to work harder as well." Diavolo nods as if to agree with himself.

"I'm glad to hear that from both of you." Barbatos is pleased.

I go back to my room to learn and relax for a while.

Before I realize it's evening time.

So, I go to enjoy my dinner with Barbatos and Diavolo.

"Good evening Diavolo. Good evening Barbatos. How did the work go?" I smile at both of them.

"It went very well." Diavolo seems very pleased.

"I have to agree." Barbatos proceeds to prepare the table.

Then I notice an extra set of plates. I look curiously at Barbatos. "Does this mean that you are going to eat with us tonight?"

"No, we are expecting a guest." Barbatos seems surprised by my suggestion.

I try not to show my disappointment and instead get interested in the mystery guest. "Who is it?"

"You will see it in just a moment." Diavolo grins at me, enjoying my impatience.

I slightly pout at him and start to look expectantly at the door.

Then it opens to reveal Lucifer. "Good evening. I'm sorry for being late." He is slightly out of breath. He likely rushed here.

"Good evening Lucifer. Don't worry about it. I'm glad you could take some time for us." Diavolo smiles at him, offering him to sit down.

"Good evening." I politely smile at him, feeling slightly awkward.

He nods at me and sits down.

"I will now start serving the first course. Is that alright with everyone?" Barbatos looks at each of us. Everyone nods.

"Thank you Barbatos." After getting served I smile at Barbatos.

"Now this is something my brothers could use more of." Lucifer seems oddly tired.

"Do you mean their manners or cuteness?" Diavolo nonchalantly asks this very embarrassing thing. I can only stare at him in disbelief.

Lucifer raises his eyebrows. "I can't judge their cuteness yet, but their manners are impeccable."

Diavolo nods to that. I'm impressed that Lucifer didn't feel the need to repermant Diavolo, because I sure did.

"We have a human meal today. It's pretty good. What do you think?" Diavolo looks first at me and then at Lucifer.

I presume he had human world food before. "It's very authentic. I can only compliment the chef."

"I have to agree. Did your chef cook this?" Lucifer seems to enjoy the food at least.

"Some of it but I cooked most dishes tonight." Barbatos smiles calmly while filling everyone's glasses.

"That's very impressive." I look at Barbatos in awe.

"It's kind of expected from Barbatos." Lucifer calmly finishes his plate.

"That's true. He is the best at what he does." Diavolo laughs happily.

I nod in agreement.

"It's interesting to see how much more expressive he seems though. I wonder if that is thanks to the new addition to your family." Lucifer's eyes focus on me.

I awkwardly take a long sip of my drink, unsure what to say to that.

"Hmmm, now that you mention it. I have to agree. I don't think that I have seen Barbatos quite as happy as lately." Diavolo looks at Barbatos, who seems to be reprimand that is connected with the young lord taking his work more seriously lately." Barbatos doesn't miss a beat with his response.

"That's quite interesting." Lucifer seems to grin at Diavolo, but it's hard to tell.

"I have to work hard to set a good example and I'm quite motivated to make my goal a reality." Diavolo pouts just a little bit.

"I wish my brothers would find something like that. Maybe I should adopt you too." Lucifer chuckles lightly while looking at me.

"That would be impossible." Barbatos looks sternly at him.

"I will not let that happen." Diavolo seems to be equally hit by that.

"I'm sure he is just joking and besides, I'm staying here in the castle regardless." I try to bring back a good mood and make sure that Lucifer knows that I have no interest in leaving.

"Of course, it was a joke but your reactions are a bit unexpected. Regardless, I hope you can live up to everyone's expectations." Lucifer puts a lot of weight on my shoulders with his words.

I can only swallow.

"I only expect that they will have fun. Everything else is secondary." Diavolo gently smiles at me.

"Despite that, they have a lot of support and I personally think they will do great," Barbatos adds calmly, but his tone is somewhat stern.

Them saying that to me makes my heart feel all warm and fuzzy. I smile at them both. "I will do my best. After all, Diavolo's wish is also my wish now." I truly wish to see the day when all the realms have a good relationship with each other.

"Seems like you fit right into here with that fool after all." Lucifer smiles calmly at me and chuckles lightly.

Diavolo doesn't seem to take any offense at all. "Well, I'd say it's time for dessert."

"I shall serve it." Barbatos returns to his duties and proceeds to serve my favorite dessert.

My eyes sparkle. "Wow, that's my favorite. How did you know that?"

"I have my methods." Barbatos has an almost sinister expression.

I feel a cold shiver but then the dessert distracts me again.

It's very delicious.

After that Lucifer keeps talking about how the devildom school works and some topics along that line. It's all pretty important.

It's pretty late when I turn to bed. After all, my first day at school will start pretty early.

I'm a bit nervous but also excited.

X-Men Abridged: 1978

The X-Men, those take-me-to-the-ballgame mutants that have sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them, are a cultural juggernaut with a long, tangled history. Want to unravel this tapestry? Then read the Abridged X-Men!

(X-Men 109 - 116) - by Chris Claremont and John Byrne, Tony Dezuniga

Yes, the plan here is to toss Kurt at Magneto and yes, it’s objectively the best panel of 1978. (X-Men 113)

If the X-Men were a tv-show, the Phoenix mending the M’Kraan Crystal would probably have been the finale of season 1 of X-Men: the New Generation. Now that we’ve had this big finish, Claremont takes his time to sow new plot seeds and navigate his team of merry mutants in new directions. Compared to 1977, 1978 is a lot more laid back, with smaller arcs and more character moments.

Take the first two issues of the year, for example. The victorious X-Men come home from their space capers and for a moment, all is well. Ororo is a plant mommy, Kurt is a grade-A cutey and Jean comes out to her parents as the Phoenix. (Intrigued? Read more here.) And, because Moira going back home to Scotland, the X-Men say goodbye to her through… a baseball game! (Which, I guess if you’re comic book character bound by the comic book code, is the next best thing to just getting drunk together.)

It’s all very straight-edge wholesome.

Lilandra is very absent: I’m assuming she is sleeping off the space jetlag somewhere. idk

Sure, there’s still a few action-packed B-plots: a fight scene is mandatory in a comic book, after all. Weapon Alpha tries to claim Wolverine in the name of the Canadian government and some nobody named Warhawk sneaks into the mansion as a phone repairman to rig the Danger Room into a Death Trap.

(Look, you have a danger room. Why are you calling phone repairmen? During breakfast, did Charles go around the table, asking anyone if they wanted to fix the phone and everyone was like “nnnnnno, I am le tired”.)

Anyway, how would you unwind after a baseball game? Scott has an awesome idea! (I'm betting Scott would have embraced the Comics Code.)

This is the one issue not drawn by John Byrne this year. Dezuniga does a fine enough job, but Jean using her powers looks like she’s barfing psy-energy all over the place. (X-Men 110)

Warhawk traps the rest of the X-Men in the Danger Room. Wolverine gets a moment to shine as the team’s rogue, finally getting a win after getting knocked on his ass lately. Also, Kurt calls Warhawk Krieghabicht. (Hee.) Jean, meanwhile, is startled because despite her phenomenal powers, she was taken out so easily. She makes the formal choice to rejoin the X-Men.

And the next time we see them… THE X-MEN HAVE VANISHED? (yes, i know this sentence contradicts itself, shut up)

We find Beast at a circus in Texas, investigating their disappearance while on a sabbatical from the Avengers. See, Lorna called him because Havok was kidnapped in Scotland and the X-Men did not pick up, so she called good ole Hank McCoy. We know Charles is honeymooning with Lilandra, so where are the X-Men?

Cerebro leads Hank to a circus and, dude, for someone who’s supposed to be a genius, you draw the conclusion that these are the brainwashed X-Men way too slowly.

I by no means wish to belittle Storm’s situation, but Wolverine is in equally skimpy clothing while chained the fuck up, Beast. Can’t spare a little sympathy for him? (X-Men 111)

Beast continues being the worst detective mutantkind has ever known: even Jean, who’s currently a cigarette smoking trapeze artist named Miz Destiny, barely convinces him that these are the X-Men. When Beast finally confronts the Ring Leader, it turns out to be… Mesmero!

This pose: appropriate for a super villain or suitable for a Harlequin novel cover? Especially with all this talk about enthralling? (X-Men 112)

Apparently Mesmero doesn’t give a fuck that half these X-Men aren’t the same X-Men that fought him before. Revenge is a dish best served cold and to the wrong table, apparently. Beast fighting ole Messy causes Wolverine to spring free from his hypnotic influence. Wolvie proceeds to slap Jean out of it (literally) and they free the rest of the X-Men. But when they come and confront Mesmero in his little circus wagon, their villain is knocked out…

By Magneto.

dun dun DUN

Magneto proceeds to kidnap them, like this:

Magneto, who has no patience for narrative baggage, also yeets out Mesmero over the Andes, no big deal (X-Men 112)

Just like Mesmero, Magneto wants misplaced revenge. Instead of exacting vengeance on Charles, Moira and the Defenders involved in (literally) infantilizing him - no, seriously, he was a baby - Magneto comes for these All-New X-Men. (Look, logic has never been one of Magneto’s super powers.)

He takes the X-Men to his secret base below the South Pole, tucked away under a literal volcano. (He really should be on the tourist board for Amazing Antarctica, this is his third base there.) The X-Men, after they have safely landed, attack him, but they are tossed around like rag dolls, falling one by one - even the Phoenix.

Jean does have the right idea, though: it’s my theory that the key to defeating Magneto is being equally dramatic and hammy. (X-Men 112)

Somewhere on a cruise ship, Charles loses contact with the X-Men and proceeds to do absolutely nothing about it. Damn, but Elizabeth Taylor Lilandra must have some pretty choice moves in bed.

YOU COULD TRY FINDING OUT, CHARLES. (X-Men 113)

When the X-Men wake up, they're bound by Nanny, a robotic… uh, nanny! And Magneto unveils his revenge: he has scrambled the X-Men’s brains: they are fully conscious, but are trapped, powerlessly in their bodies, which won’t follow the instructions of their brains. It’s as if they’re the minds of adults, trapped in the bodies of infants - just like Magneto was. (He does not succumb to an evil laughter, but he’s definitely drifting into Evil Overlord territory.)

Look, a lot of this is very silly. Magneto hasn’t really been codified by Claremont yet: he’s still very much the sixties super villain and he doesn’t have his Holocaust-past yet. His motivations don’t make much sense: it’s never made clear why he needs the base, for example, or why he doesn’t just kill the X-Men. And yet, he seems more menacing than he used to be. Might be because these X-Men actually have a hard time beating him.

A lot of this era works like that. There’s the occasionally very silly trappings of a superhero comic, but there’s also glimmers of exceptional writing. Take the following scene, for example, which I’ll just include in its entirety, because fuck it. Storm is trying to break free, on the flimsy premise that she was a highly advanced baby who had the motor skills of a toddler. (I’ve met babies. They basically eat, sleep and poop. They can’t really do this.) And yet? This scene kind of works.

Like, the fact that this scene works despite the fact that Magneto thought to give his Nanny-robot a sixties copper bob-cut and a aluminium French maid headpiece is a testament to effective writing. (Also to Magneto’s attention to detail.) (X-Men 113)

No worries, Storm succeeds the second time she attempts this.

Together, the now free team manages to almost defeat Magneto, but Phoenix grows a little too zealous, destroying precious machinery. It proves to be their undoing: the roof to the base cracks open, letting lava in. Things grow dire and Magneto gets the nope out of there.

The lava turns on the heat and the team gets split up. Phoenix escapes together with Beast, and they both collapse into the freezing snow in the Arctic. A helicopter saves them, but what about the rest of the team? Are they dead?!

They’re dead enough for Professor X, and I really have questions about the effectiveness of Cerebro. After a brief mourning period, Beast rejoins the Avengers. But what really happened to the X-Men? Well, they fled into the Savage Land!

So, are we getting a sexy costume change with every new locale and/or story arc? What is this, Charmed? (X-Men 114)

The Savage Land plot is… kind of messy and confusing? First, Storm is attacked by Sauron (yay!) and he even hypnotizes Wolverine and uses his love for Jean against him (ew!), but as soon as Karl Lykos gains control again (boo!), he explains how he

Did not fall to his death;

Is suppressing his pterodactyl side (ain’t we all);

allied himself with the Savage Landers.

Then Ka-Zar, Marvel´s discount!Tarzan, explains how someone named Zaladane transformed a hapless innocent into Garruk, the Petrified Man, who is some sort of… living god? Who stopped some sort of interdimensional invasion by mending some sort of… portal rift? And then he set up shop in the swamp and built some sort of futuristic city? And he wants to enslave all of the natives of the Savage Land? And he built his city on the geothermal fissure that heats the Savage Land, so now the jungle is being choked out by snowy tundra?

Such a mess. And I know Zaladane gets important later, but, ugh, the socio-political tensions in the Savage Land is generally not what I’m here for.

One of the few Savage Land scenes I do like is also messy, but the emotional kind of messy. See, the X-Men on their part believe Jean and Hank are dead, and Scott takes it rather… lightly? When Storm confronts him about it, he confesses he does not mourn Jean as much as he thought he would, as if she were a different woman ever since they crash-landed the shuttle. Storm rejects this confession, always solidly in Jean’s camp, and basically tells Scott to man up. Scott has a point: Jean has changed and it’s not like people have fallen out of love for less, but there’s something to be said for Storm’s firm “for better or for worse”-argument. The scene ends unresolved, and I like that.

Anyway, there’s some X-Men fighting dinos and flying lizards, so there’s at least that. Oh, and Colossus develops a suddenly intense bond with a Savage Lander with a mohawk, which is a detail that becomes important later. Another significant detail?

There’s a lot of weight to that snikt, bub. (X-Men 116)

The implication is that Wolverine simply kills the guy in cold-blood. It’s a little weird that both Storm and Kurt are so okay with this, especially because Storm tries to save Garruk later. This, however, also marks an important direction in which they’re taking Wolverine, becoming the most ruthless of the X-Men.

In the end, Cyclops blasts the foundations of the citadel to smithereens, solving everyone’s problems and putting a neat bow on this tangled plotline. Also, all of a sudden? The X-Men are monthly again! (yay!) And they’ve upgraded from All-New, All-Different to Uncanny on the cover, though the name of the comic won’t officially change until issue 142.

Best new character: Like Hell I’m giving this to Weapon Alpha! So instead, it’s going to the two stylish, mohawked ladies who “show the island” to Piotr. (Again. They’ll be relevant later. Sort of.)

What to read: X-Men 109, for the denouement of the Phoenix Saga (or the first part thereof). The rest is rather inconsequential.

The Freedom of Expression, radio version - Live special #3, August 9th 2016.

✯📆Kaoru starts by trying to remember when the last live special was, getting it wrong by saying it was at the start of year (It was actually in Dec).  Kaoru comments on how the amount of staff in the studio is different from usual when they go live. They also have half-price off food from the supermarket to keep them going for 2 hours.

✵🐎They then welcome Hiranabe and Tasai to join them for the show. Hiranabe worries whether he'll still have a job in the morning after doing this show. He doesnt want to lose his job, as he just also lost a ton of money on the horse racing.

Kaoru then suggest they might get a visit from Kami at some point, and they will try to have a phone call with Dobashi, who is currenly in Brazil 🇧🇷.

He then gets started with the top 5 stories of the first half of 2016. Counting down from...

●5. North Korean satellite lauch/ America and Japan suspect an intercontinental ballistic missile launch - Hiranabe thinks American satellites are so advanced that America will know exactly what N.Korea is doing. Joe thinks the wording/phrasing in such news articles makes a big difference as to how the story is percieved.

Kami tells them he is ok to appear on the show tonight, as he managed to catch the last train home after work. He's now enjoying taking part with a beer.

●4. A boom in adultery - Celebrity Becky's affair (plus apology to her sponsers at a press conference) at the start of the year has set off a string of public revelations about the adulterous affairs of other celebrities, all of whom have also immediately held press conferences to apologize. Before this year, celebrities tended to use their personal blogs etc to address the accusations. Joe brings up something he heard from Nuclear Safety Chief Madarame Haruki when interviewing him about the 3.11 disaster. Madarame said that it has long been Japan's culture to never badmouth a samurai who has commited seppuku. Badmouthing such a person makes you worse than whatever they did. In this way, if celebs appear at a press conference with tears in their eyes and full of apology, they can avoid any future dragging about their past mistakes.

✵🏘️At this point Kaoru takes a break from the countdown to read out an email from a listener. The email is from someone who currently lives in their hometown, but is thinking of moving to Tokyo, so they want to know Kaoru's advice for moving to Tokyo for the first time as a single person. Kaoru says he moved to Tokyo 19 years ago, and lived in Nerima ward at first, specifically the neighborhood Fujimidai. This was to be near to where Dir's manager lived. The rent was ¥120,000 a month for a 2LDK apartment, which he shared with Kyo. Kami gives out advice to not be picky about specific locations when searching for a cheap place. Hiranabe brings up the website 'Oshima teru', where you can check to see which apartments have previously been the sites of murders/deaths. The rent for such apartments is often abnormally cheap.  

✵🤭🤭🤭 Next Kaoru moves onto some news which interested Hiranabe a lot, the story being very typical of him....'Admission of squirting'. (Lots of laughs from the others, and Joe wants to know more 😆). The story relates to the model Darenogare Akemi. She appeared on a radio show and was denying the rumour that she was the type to lie still during sex, she claimed that she moves around and vocalises a lot during sex. The host of the show asked her, 'Yeh, but I bet you don't squirt?'. She replied on air, 'I do, I did for the first time a year and a half ago'. Hiranabe decided to dedicate a whole page in Tokyo Sports to this story.

Hiranabe was also fond of the Beat Takeshi 'Comǎneci pose' story, invovling actresses Ayase Haruka, Nagasawa Masami, and Hirose Suzu. This story was talked about previously on Ep 25.

✵☎️Next, they try having a direct phone convo with a listener. The caller brings up the news of the 2016 World Happiness Report, in which Japan ranked at #53. Joe explains these results are obtained by surveying local populations, but each nation has different standards of what happiness is. Kaoru thinks happiness is not something that should be ranked in this way. The caller then asks Hiranabe why he never learns to not spend so much money on women. He answers 'Because Im an idiot'. Joe asks the caller what she thinks Hiranabe looks like. She says 'a face which can't be broadcast'. (Laughs all round).

✵🎶Next they listen to a few of the new jingle entries. They like the second entry, which apparently contains phrases influened by a couple of Dir songs. They also like the fifth entry and ask Kami to do the voice-over on it, which they all find hilarious. Kaoru says he might use some of these entries on the show in future.

📞✵🇧🇷Next they connect via the phone to Dobashi, who is in Brazil covering the 2016 Olympics for Tokyo Sports. He is calling from the table tennis venue, as he is covering a match there. He says he has seen a few Japanese athletes win gold medals in other events, and encourages listeners to buy Tokyo Sports to read his reports.

They ask Dobashi various questions about security, and the local food etc, then Hiranabe asks him if he has any of the commemorative Olympic condoms, and whether or not he has used them. Dobashi says he has some, but hasn't used them. He opened one to check it out, and it was so thick, obviously not made in Japan (his words). Hiranabe asks him to bring some back as souvenirs 🤭😆

✵Before moving onto # 3 in the countdown, Kaoru reads out an email. This is from a listener who is a fan of Dobashi and wants to know what kind of woman he likes. Hiranabe knows his type..he likes kinda crazy women. Another email from 'radio name: 0.3mm' asks for some Olympic condoms. The last email asks them whether they like watching movies on regular screens, or on 3D/4D screenings. Kaoru prefers regular screens, otherwise he finds it difficult to concentrate. He recently watched the movie 'Shin Godzilla' (in 2D), and was anxious seeing familiar Tokyo landmarks getting trashed.

●3. Muhammed Ali's death. This was discussed in ep 39, about how Ali was very outspoken in regards to segregation. Despite Obama becoming the first black president, Joe questions how much discrimination against black people by white people in the US has actually improved. Hiranabe agrees with Joe, in that based on the news, race relations are not improving at all. Joe says we must be careful not to focus too much on the big headline of Obama as President. That doesn't suddenly mean everything is ok now.

Hiranabe then talks for a bit about his memories of prowrestler Antonio Inoki, who fought with Ali once.

●2. The eventual resignation of (former) Tokyo Governor Masuzoe Yōichi. Masuzoe had held onto his position as long as possible, claiming he was innocent. He's used specific techniques during press conferences to avoid getting cornered. Hiranabe was impressed with the words of new candidate Torigoe Shuntaro, who used the phrase, 'Everyone please get distracted', instead of the usual 'Don't get distracted', which candidates usually finish their speeches with. Joe draws comparisons with the 3.11 response. A third party investigation committee was set up in both the 3.11 case and Masuzoe's case, but if the guilty parties are choosing which lawyers make up the committee, its not very impartial in the end. Use of the word 'third-party' is another trick politicians use to try to look innocent.

✵☎️Next they take another phone call from a listener. This caller's first fave news of the year is the announcement of new Dir en grey tours. His second is about Pokemon Go. He asks if Kaoru plays. Kaoru says he's already given up, after getting to level 12. Joe interrupts to say Kami looks as if he's about to fall asleep.

Reaching the end of the countdown..

●1. Mystery Phoenix appears in sun. This is a story from Tokyo Sports back in May. Shapes resembling a phoenix have been spotted in various photos of the sun which were released by NASA. Tokyo Sports offered the suggestion of whether this might actually be real. Tasai hands a copy of Tokyo Sports out to everyone to show them the image, but Kaoru is more interested in another story on the same page: 'Discovery in Arizona of trunk from 20cm tall elephant with fish gills'. Joe then reads out some similarly crazy headlines from the newspaper in his hands. The question arises of whether this story merits being at #1.

✵To finish a quick suggestion of another live special at the end of the year, as long as everyone still has their job, and are not in Atami...., and Kaoru plugs his upcoming tours. In the last min, they all agree that Kami voicing the jingle was the funniest bit of the show. Kaoru wishes the listeners good luck at work tomorrow after staying up late to listen to the show.
