Leonardo is a Foot trainee, raised and trained by Lieutenant and Brute since he was 9. Life before then is fuzzy at best. — In the past several months, he's been going on his first proper missions, quickly aware of a persistent threat against the Foot Clan: 3 mutant turtles and a human who've foiled them time and time again.

What he wasn't aware of was that they were 4 siblings who never gave up on finding their missing brother.

I didn't intend for this AU to be that big, but I realized I did want to give this a go and make at least something. It's my goal to finish this project eventually.

The AU will be told in segments, comics of various points of the story.

Bonus! Miscellaneous info that doesn't play big into this AU but matters enough to me:

Leonardo is transmasculine, uses he/they/xe pronouns and is referred to with primarily masculine terms.

A version of Stan Sakai's Usagi Yojimbo comics exists and it's Leo's second favorite comic series in this AU.

'Tentative Devotee' is the name of the fanfic I was originally going to write. It was just gonna be a 2-shot fic and a way to navigate some feelings as someone who was born and raised in, and eventually left, a cult.

The initial tone/direction of this AU was much different, Leo ending up in the Foot Clan under different circumstance (i.e. direct kidnapping from Lieutenant and Brute). I found this didn't quite work for me.

Hm, apparently this wasn’t a request. But whatever, I finished them and want to show it off

But yay, I finally got purecacao done!

So first off, I just want to say that these two are post-canon, and Dark Choco’s their older half-brother. I just felt like mentioning that because I made up this whole thing for the purecacao love story

My idea for how Dark Cacao and Pure Vanilla’s relationship went is that at some point, Dark Cacao got feelings for Pure Vanilla, but wasn’t sure how to tell him. But he thought he’d have all the time in the world to say because they were immortal. But then the Dark Flour War happened and Pure Vanilla “died”. When he came back, Dark Cacao realized that he couldn’t just wait anymore, and so sometime during the current story, he confessed his love for him, and after the main story they ended up getting together

Anyways, back to the twins. So Vanilla Bean is a girl, while Cocoa Butter is a boy. Though I’m considering making Cocoa Butter a girl as well. I’m not sure

So Cocoa Butter is a very friendly kid, and very outgoing. He wants to be a warrior like his father (Dark Cacao) and brother, though he prefers the Vanilla Kingdom over the Dark Cacao Kingdom. He also tends to get himself into messy situations, which result in his outfits getting messed up and having to constantly be fixed. In the future, I see him being a Vanillian soldier, if not a commander. Also, despite his want to be like Dark Cacao, his favorite parent is Pure Vanilla since he’s not nearly as serious

Vanilla Bean on the other hand is very shy and quiet. She prefers to read giant tomes and watch from afar. She prefers Dark Cacao since he’s quiet and feels safe with him due to how strong he is. I’m not as certain what she ends up doing, maybe she becomes a healer, but I know she’ll end up living in the Dark Cacao Kingdom

I feel like you can tell which description I did better. I mean, with Cocoa Butter I was haphazardly putting all my thoughts, but by Vanilla Bean I knew how to articulate them better

Despite their differences, they get along very well, and include the other in their games. Also, they both really like their brother Dark Choco. He’s like their main babysitter, and he enjoys their company too

Alright, I think that’s about it for their characters. Now on to designs

So I think I’ve mentioned using the name Cocoa Butter before, but I also decided to use Vanilla Bean a few days ago. My brain thoughts were that cocoa butter is cacao but light colored, while vanilla beans are vanilla but dark colored. It’s contrast (which admittedly I may be doing too much of with these two)

So one of the first things I wanted to do was give Vanilla Bean those pigtails, with the idea that they’d look like vanilla beans. Admittedly they aren’t actually in the shape of the beans, but whatever

I was struggling with their eye colors, since I wasn’t really sure what to do. I knew I didn’t want to do heterochromia though. Eventually I tried mixing the purple and I think blue to get this bluish grey color, and I decided to give them purple eyes but with one of Pure Vanilla’s eye colors as the highlights. And also I decided to change the purples to fit more with each highlight, Cocoa Butter’s being more warm while Vanilla Bean’s is more cool

Admittedly I was kind of just making stuff up with their outfits, all I could think of was vaguely mixing Vanillian and Dark Cacaoian clothing, which mostly just resulted in purple + yellow. I know I’ve seen someone do it, but I don’t have refs. I think what I came up with was alright though

In addition to their purples and yellows, I experimented with adding an additional green color to Vanilla Bean to spice things up, and I liked it. But I didn’t want to leave Cocoa Butter out, so I gave him the red accents

Their streaks were a very last minute inclusion, and I really only added them because I remembered that Dark Cacao had those. I feel like you can really tell on Cocoa Butter

Overall I think they’re good. Maybe not my best, but they’re still fine. Maybe I can make them some adult designs that look even better

But yeah, I think that’s about it for them. I hope you enjoy them!

First up, Pepperman and The Vigilante!

(( Why both at once? Cause they're constantly together anyway, it'd be a shame to split them apart.

More or less I wanted to lean into the personalities they have already, but to crank em up a bit.

They're two of the five strongest creations in the tower, as well as close friends of P. his leads them both to be rather simply manipulated by him, especially given how gradual it was.

Pepperman is a loud and proud figure, constantly boasting about his mastery of the arts and his determination and perseverance to never half-ass any of his creations was there for everyone to see.

Thus, P started taking advantage of that.

P would constantly commission Pepperman. At first it was in reasonable quantities, maybe a painting every so often, maybe a little statuette here and there. But the amount and speed that P started demanding became absurd.

Pepperman deep down could tell that he was accepting more work than he can handle, but his pride wouldn't listen. He kept staying up longer and longer to finish the pieces, to the point where if you were to ask, he probably wouldn't even remember the last time he painted or even sketched for himself. Or when he last slept.

That's the state our protagonists would hind him in; very very overworked.

Vigilante is a serious and gruff fellow who puts his farm and the people he cares about before himself. He used to be a Vigilante until he got promoted to the Sheriff not too long ago. Now he just wears the name cause he's used to it. No outlaw can escape his wrath, as he's very handy with a gun and loves practicing using it in sparring matches.

This is where P ruins that for him.

P used to just have fun little matches with Vigi, fighting fair and often allowing him to win as just a thanks for spending time with him. But, as time went on, it became relentless.

P would constantly attempt to catch Vigi off-guard to "test his reflexes", not quite to the point of keeping him awake, but rather just making him paranoid and fearful of each minute he's awake. His hand was constantly on the trigger of his gun to feel at least a little in control. And P doesn't go easy on him either. He's left actual dents and errors in the cheese, wounds that shouldn't even be possible.

But Vigilante doesn't know how to stop it. If he were to say stop, he'd be angering his boss and more importantly friend. He cares about the time they've spent together, but knows at the same time that this is becoming far too much for him to handle.

And that's how you meet him, high-strung, worried about disappointing P.

I never finished the intro to him, but it would've taken place not along after Pepperman's. In fact, in the same room, like, canonically like ten minutes apart. He'd go in there to discuss about getting ready for P's big event and just casually reveal to Peppibow about them being a clone, which would lead to quite a bit of tension as well as the proper in color introduction to P.

Their relationship would be up in the air. They were gonna be written as friends, but could be read as whatever the reader wants.

Vigilante would often drag Phil (as he calls Pepperman, since it's his real name), to Noisette's Cafe as a way to relax whenever he was pushing himself too hard.

Pepperman would be there to hear Vigi discuss his situation and give advice, which more or less fell on deaf ears, but were appreciated nonetheless.

They've been friends as long as they can remember, to the point that they can't even remember ever meeting, just that they always knew eachother.

Bonus info:

Pepperman's final design doesn't have a bow, since its colors would've been decided by askers. Thus it would've been added after the votes were in.

Vigi was originally gonna have a cheese pattern bow that would work similar to the patterns do in Chowder.

Pepperman would be on the spectrum.

I forgot that Pepperman's small form exited while making him, so he has nothing to do with that.

Vigilante was planned to die in one of the drafts after revealing to Peppibow that they're a clone, as P had specifically told Vigi and the other bosses not to do that, and thus gets angered. P would pop his hand through a portal, crush the life out of him and then drag him away, leaving Pepperman and everyone else in the room horrified. And that was one of planned introductions to P. I decided against it, as Vigi didn't really do anything to deserve that fate and plus it would've been rather anti-climactic in general.

first of all, her ref:

incomprehensible jargon of notes probably i wrote these for myself. anyway. she's an ancient --- sort of? she's. definently more creature than ancient. she's a bioengineer, programmer, engineer and pupept designer! though her official designation of sorts of programmer. bioengineering shenanigans lead up to her being more creature. and totally not lore related. but i'd rather not put that on a public tumblr post because i haven't revealed it in rp yet lmao

18 wings! why? why not! they're actually used for communicating via broadcasts - the feathers can send short-distance signals via specific gestures that her communications panel responds to. she had to change/recalibrate it a Lot when she lost her right primary wing and it still took some time to get used to. she didn't always have 18 wings either, it was just her primary wings until much later. oh and, actually, here's an rp snippet from when she lost that wing:

my writing is lackluster but oh well. spears is not my character! he belongs to @/prismsoup. she then proceeded to have an existential crisis on the global line because she fears death more than anything (mind you this is post-mass ascension and pre-spearmaster). her left wing was lost in a void fluid accident - one of her superiors tried to force ascend her by throwing her in a vat of void fluid and that kind of. went Very wrong for him because he got echoed (suck that limit upon a silent vigil) and eclipse got out of that with only a burned wing! that never regrew. so now the iridescence on it looks like fire reflected through shattered glass - and sometimes, in the right lighting, like echo scales. meanwhile the iridscence on her other wings is much more gentle - appearing almost completely golden with a hint of many other colors under the light of a sunrise.

she has many scars - all of them are from her superior. he did Not like her for a Multitude of reasons and she flinches ayntime someone raises anything sharp at her and refuses to use anything but a spear because of it. this brings me to another part - she has a direct response that was coded in to her genome that, when shocked under distress, it will render her unable to speak and express any emotion because that sure is a way to get someone to listen to you huh. anyway the scar on her chest - as pointed out in the notes - never healed and will bleed if under stress. she's not vibing very well actually. not okay. she has The Horrors. many of them.

she much rather prefers to walk like a quadruped - though she can walk on two legs and four. she is some sort of [Weird Cat] and i love her for it. even her own wing bioluminescence and iridescence distracts her! she has an awful attention span but will focus intensly if you ask her about bioengineering or programming and will do her best not to ramble on for too long unless explicitly told that she can go on for as long as she wants to. she's very expressive! she can and will exaggerate her body language and flash her wings about for the sake of it.

she's the programmer, engineer and puppet designer of my dude whispers of silver and appointed his slugcat (broadcast slugcat) senior for the sake of it. it was funny. and why not

Medic's young daughter quickly becomes intrigued by her father's work, as soon as she's able to look over the table. It becomes a common occurrence for her to watch him conduct his research, occasionally asking questions and learning more about biology and medicine. Medic is hoping this is a sign that she'll follow in his footsteps, but is happy enough that he has his daughter's company.

Beach Episode!! I just had to take the excuse to draw Tech and Medic in vintage swimwear lol. Look at them, don't they make a cute couple?

I very lightly traced the poses for size, but only used small parts of the woman's outline before adjusting the sketch for Tech's body shape. I also traced an angled shot of Medic's head, but that was edited as well.

Day 2: Formal

Another one for @dontneedadispenser's V-Day event. I almost didn't post it, but a few friends of mine made me feel better about it. Please accept my humble contribution. u///u 👉👈

This is my personal cliché scenario of going to a ball/gala, but I did also see Saxton Hale host these kinds of parties, so you could say this stuff is canon. Maybe one of them was nominated for a merc award and was invited to bring a few friends. And with the help of an anonymous "fairy godmerc", Technician was able to attend a fancy event for the first time in her life. Needless to say she took her secret admirer's breath away - just like she hoped she would.

The first 4 of my top posts are my techmedic art and I couldn't be happier with that fact. I'm also happy with the number 1 post cuz it was written with Medic in mind, and I'm glad other people can relate to what I experienced with him.

This was another great ship year with him and my other f/os, and with all my amazing friends here. Here's to more self shipping love and happiness next year!

Well well welly well well....

Let's talk about the art I made for the finale and the last couple character designs revealed, shall we?

It was an all-hands-on-deck situation, and I was able to contribute to one of the final scenes. I hadn't gotten to draw Maria yet this volume, and so that's what I request for this final assignment.

After my last scene with Adam, I had foolishly believed I wouldn't have to draw the Atlas rifles again. Nope! xD I also kinda uh, just put whatever for the mermaid grimm, and wasn't super clear that they had a specific look, so i just sorta drew generally aquatic monsters, but it works out anyways and nobody called me out on it wwwww

The mech was also a bit of a pickle! Had to ask other sketchies for ref images, and I think the design of the mech was still in flux right up to the very last possible second. Still though, skyscraper-sized robots are always fun.

Maria was such a treat to draw, I love how she's simultaneously full of wisdom and also continuously very confused on how qrow and ruby are related.

We in this house don't believe in "cheating" in art, but we do believe in taking shortcuts. Plus it turned out bretty coo.

Got some help with this! perspective is a weak point for me, but felly sketchy Jayjaybase was able to procure a better ref image for me than what I was finding off of google, and it helped a lot for the overall look of the thing.

This was another fun shot to do. Yang waving with her stump is probably my favorite part lol.

Qrow's the kind of character where I always fret if I'll be able to draw him and his tricky hair right, but one way or another he always seems to turn out okay.

It was surprisingly tricky for me to find a good reference image for Qrow's running legs here, luckily posemaniacs came in to save the day.

This was a fun sequence to do, i always like imagining what a person looks like mid-transformation into whatever animal they turn into, the way their body and features must contort. I wonder if I'll get to do more stuff like that in the future?

Lowkey hilarious that Maria didn't have the slightest inkling that Qrow could turn into a bird until this very moment, and her reaction is just "neat!" Perfect note to end that scene on imo lmao

Now on to the last two character designs of the volume!

First up, worst girl, Cinder! There was quite a bit of debate on how to handle Cinder, especially since I personally actually quite liked her canon Atlas outfit, and didn't want to deviate too strongly from it. Overall though, it was decided that she should keep more of her red motif and a lot of the more classy elements from her previous designs. A soft gradient on her cloak helps tie in the colors from her feathers and keeps her legs from disappearing into the cloak. She feels a lot more like a mage here, with us wanting to lean more into her maiden status. As a rule I'm not fond of Cinder, but when you're doing character design, you kinda gotta find a way to sympathize and get in the character's head to find the roots of their personality to design from, and I like to think I was able to find an approachable middle ground with her.

Malachite's new outfit! For realsies this time and not just a cobbling together of her old outfit with her sister's!

Originally back when Malachite reappears and fights with Cinder, she was meant to appear in the casual!outfit shown in this sheet, her hair already cut to its new length. However, for various reasons, the artists for that scene ended up using her vol.5 cobbled design, and the casual!outfit was never used. A shame, I'm so fond of clothes that defy gravitate and look like they're about to fall off xD

But nonetheless! Malachite's Atlas outfit was largely inspired by a particularly eclectic gothic/punk lolita dress that was shared in the server from online, which got some tweaks and adjustments for dressing malachite in. We're dialing up the intensity of Mal's mental schisms here, two brains existing in one person and generally getting along, yet clashing even so. Gave her more simplified hand weapons, as well as increasing the size of her ankle blades to better match the size of her hand-blades. The main idea behind her was for her to be a blender in a cocktail dress lol. Very excited for her to do more stuff in the future of FRWBY!

Mer!Otto AU masterpost

I have to admit that I made this au specifically for spicy purposes, but it quickly turned into something much more extensive in my mind, so here it is!!

I got inspired to make my own Mer!Otto by this art and this fic. The idea was playing around my brain for a while, then someone asked me to draw something I’d been wanting to but hadn’t found the time to do yet and I said “bet,” and then my mer!Otto happened. He’s gone through a few little updates as I’ve continued to write, but I’ve more or less solidified his physical design at this point.

The Info

History/story:

This particular au Otto has a super long lifespan, upwards of a few thousand years

He’s one of only a few remaining merpeople of his particular species, most of whom died out fairly soon after he reached maturity

He’s been around long enough that he was once revered as a sea god, and people painted him on pottery, most of which has been lost to time

He began his life quite innocent, just learning about the world on his own

Was amused and unbothered by the groups of people who thought he was a god, mostly because he was still fairly young at the time

He became more aggressive as he got older, and had a few phases of about 50 years each (first in early sailing history, then maybe in the early 1600s, and then later in the 1700s) where he fought a lot of whalers/sailors/general seafarers, and was even known to terrorize smaller ships for fun

The seafarers of all kinds who mistook him for either a whale or were hunting him specifically during those times usually didn’t return from their voyages

He has had a decent amount of interactions with peaceful land-bound humans during his lifetime, mostly from people who had heard the myths, who were trying to make some sort of sacrifice to a sea god, or who plain stumbled upon him by accident, his dealings with these types of people have mostly been pleasant

In more modern times he has mostly retreated to one particular hidden cave, in an attempt to live in peace and avoid modern recording and hunting technology, though he’s a little magical so cameras don’t really pick him up properly

Physical stuff:

He’s BIG and incredibly inhumanly strong

His human skin is a very pale blue/green/grey color, his octopus skin is a dark blueish-green

His eyes have black sclera, orange and gold irises, and horizontal pupils (like an octopus lmao)

His teeth are bone-colored and very sharp

He’s got half-inch long dark green claws on each of his fingers

His hair is brown and wavy just like canon Otto (more like NWH Otto)

His octopus half connects to his human half just below his tiddies, and a trail of octopus skin leads part way up over his sternum

He has three hearts (and other as of yet undetermined strangeness in his organs bc of the human/octopus hybrid business lmao)

His blood is blue, which makes his mucus membranes (inside of his mouth, etc) blue-green in color, and also makes him blush the same blue-green

He’s cold blooded but can still function totally normally in water of any temp including freezing deep sea water

His skin can change colors for camouflage purposes and it also sometimes does randomly when he’s asleep and dreaming

He doesn’t need to sleep as much as humans do but does anyway sometimes just because

The tip of his hectocotylus (reproductive tentacle) is shaped a bit like a rounded bud, with six segments that open like a flower, allowing the tentacle to lodge inside a host for better egg-transferring success

He’s very similar to how I imagine canon Doc Ock, aka suave, jaded, with a slightly more prickly exterior, but on the inside he’s got a heart(s) as soft as the squishiest marshmallow.

He is initially a bit aggressive toward anyone who finds him, mostly to figure out what they want, but if the person takes long enough to explain themselves and is nice, he softens up quite a bit

He likes music, tasty food, and pretty things

He doesn’t like people who want to hunt him

He doesn’t fall in love often, but when he does it happens fast and hard

When he does love someone he wants nothing more than to absolutely smother them with affection of various different kinds, physical and verbal

Extras:

He eats mostly meat, but won’t turn down the chance to nibble on a variety of other things

He’s ticklish

He has three biological children, carried to term by 2 humans

He has both ear lobes and both nipples pierced, and has several nautical tattoos

considering i draw fugo so much and have so many little hcs about his appearance i went ahead and drew a baby ref for him ft. his anime colors that i will most likely Never Use but theyre there in case. I somehow do my ramblings about his appearance are underneath the thingy ^_^;

Firstly to start off I kept his skin the same cause... yeah... it's redder to fit in w/ his manga colors cause that's what I prefer (even if I am anime-only atm for p5) but anyways not the point.

With his skin, there are a few things I did. First, I gave him subtle freckles and dark circles underneath his eyes, darkening/making them bigger post PHF cause you know he does Not Sleep Well after GW, though I don't think he honestly did even before. Freckles are just bc I felt like it cause I think they're cute. Scar wise, there's not too much as a majority of the scars on him with the exception of a few will be randomized essentially. One of the nonrandomized ones is obviously his face scar after PHF due to him biting the capsule. I personally like to think when he did this, he had it in the left side of his mouth so there are more scars on that side (also helps balance out his hair but that's another thing) It flakes out a bit and continues on his cheeks but's that really it. There is a rounded scar right around his jaw (it's on both sides) where Giorno had to do some... ah, let's say "reattachment" for Fugo afterward. The scarring continues down his neck where the virus started to eat at his throat and such and it's on both sides as well. Finally, there's the scar on his lower right abdomen. That's from the knife that got he stabbed with during Angelina's attack and just... essentially kept there. All the other scars are Pre PHF, the scars post-PHF he intentionally kept (for what reason I'm not entirely sure but my go-to is usually to remind him of what he went through and to sort of ground him) Onto his hair, I gave him two different styles; Pre PHF and Post PHF. Pre PHF follows his more canon hairstyle, dividing into 3 parts. I don't like how they look stiff so I made them look much softer (though I sorta do that to everyone like Abbacchio for example) in both versions. Pre PHF is just... yeah sorta that there isn't much to explain honestly. Post PHF though his hair is more grown out and longer- instead of reaching just above his shoulders it now reaches just below them. His bangs are now also side-swept to fit more of the PHF style and because I saw this wonderful Fugo fanart and got obsessed with it and it actually gave me a good way to stylize Fugo's hair to make him easier to draw for me at the time. Colors are colors, though I did just sorta free hand the anime colors cause I was lazy so his hair is a pit too pale and his suit is the wrong color but I honestly don't really mind; i sorta like the paler hair anyways LOL might work around that and fit the suit to match it better so we'll see... Everything else is just sorta basic stuff so I'll leave it at that !! I plan to do everyone in the bucci gang at some point, Fugo just happened to be the first cause I draw him so much and wanted an easy ref for myself lol. If you read all this uhmmm thank chew!!! Vee! My beloved sona got a massive design update, so it makes sense that they'd also get a new ref lol

Other than the color changes, their old design is pretty much still "canon" (it's their human "disguise")

First and foremost - how did Vee become a demon? Vee was possessed by a full shadow demon (basically a demon who's "lost themselves" over time, their physical forms are very... distorted). Vee's body couldn't handle the process and the damage sustained from their body trying to fit the distortion of the original demon, and they died. When Vee came back, they found their body kept reflections of what happened to them before dying, but instead of scars his body formed in shadow.

Vee has no recollection of dying or being dead at all. They only have their scars and the fact that they're part shadow demon to help them piece together what happened. Quite frankly they prefer it this way.

After becoming a demon, Vee's personality changes quite a bit - outwardly at least. They stop really trying to keep their emotions to themselves, which makes them much... louder... of a person as a whole. They are generally way more "chaotic" I suppose?? And, unfortunately, they become pretty violent. In their head, Vee has already payed the "ultimate price" for their (very tame) actions, and resolved that if he's damned if he does, and damned if he doesn't, why shouldn't he? Obvioulsy they're not just going around attacking people, but they will not hold back if provoked (how easy they are to provoke varies).

Because they're a demon, Vee has powers!

He can make his body fully shadow - during which he can choose if he wants to be tangible or not. In that state he can also bring up to 2 other people with him - making their bodies shadow as well (granted he HAS to be touching them, so he's not likely to take anyone he's not comfortable with with him)

Vee can "flatten" their body against surfaces. As long as the item is Vee sized or larger they can put their body on it. This is also a power they can bring others into.

Vee cannot bleed. If injured in a way that would normally draw blood, their body simply "seeps" more of the shadow substance their body is largely made of.

Vee also feels reduced pain (for the most part)

They can float (if so desired)

Vee doesn't need to eat, drink, or sleep. They continue to do so because they want some sense of normalcy

Vee can't use any of their powers too much or for too long without exhausting themselves. In the event he does exhaust himself, it would be the only time his body would require him to sleep. And, should he ever completely exhaust himself, he'd simply just black out and be unconscious for 13+ hours. Despite being hard to do, they have managed it, once.

Unfortunately, Vee has a very poor sense of time. Suddenly loosing a week of their life made keeping up with the rest very difficult and confusing for them. Vee also is highly sensative to lights (due to being made of shadow) and sounds (due to different ears), and will typically avoid going out and doing things during the day. There's even a threshold of too much light that, when met or surpassed, can physically hurt Vee. Which, granted, was a problem they'd had before, it's just that that threshold is much lower now.

hi!! you said it'd be okay to request oc/canon fankids, so i thought i'd toss one of mine into the mix! her name's salt lick cookie, and she's a farmhand on a ranch. she mostly helps with the horses (hence 'salt lick'), and is a HUGE Horse Girl™. she has that THICK southern drawl, and is pretty laid-back in general. her pet would be a little living hobby-horse toy, y'know, the kind on a stick that you'd stand over and run around pretending to ride as a kid.

i think it'd be REALLY cute to pair her with potato cookie, since they both work closely with animals, and potatoes and salt tend to work well together lmao!

i do wanna apologize for a couple things regarding the reference image: since i can't draw, i used a mobile dollmaker app, so the colors aren't 100% accurate… salt licks run the gamut from pure white to a deep, pinky red, but nothing's as dark as the red on her overshirt, so that red should be lighter and more pinkish. (her bandana is supposed to be white and pink, too, not. yellow.) and the website i used to make the background transparent decided to also make her pigtails, shirt, and half of one boot transparent… hopefully that won't make a difference if the canvas is white?

Anyways on to the show, so I named him Potato Chip simply because they’re potatoes and they’re usually salty. I mean one’s salt and the other potatoes, what else was I gonna do if not some form of salty potatoes?

Potato chips:

Funny enough when making the initial rough sketch, I thought he looked a bit too much like Salt Lick, but around the time I was finishing up, I thought he looked a bit too much like Potato. I’m willing to say now he’s probably more of an even balance

I do admit that I kind of just gave him Salt Lick’s top hair, just with some more rounded ends to resemble Potato more. I was always planning on making his hair blonde with white streaks since he’s still a potato, but I also made the blonde slightly more orange, though I don’t think it’s very noticeable

I also gave him those dark brown flecks in his hair just because the potato chips I was looking at had some pepper in them. And it tied in with the eyebrow color

I gave him pink eyes because it was supposed to represent the salt, but also I realize that if I didn’t give him pink eyes, he’d definitely look too much like Potato

So with his outfit, initially he was going to be a farmer, but I ended up think “what if he was a chef instead?” and went with that for everything below his scarf (since that was what I had drawn first). But also I didn’t change the initial look, mostly because I really liked it, so I think his top part and his bottom part may not entirely coincide with his theme

When trying to finalize the colors, I wasn’t sure about giving Potato Chip his yellow shirt, since I thought it looked off, but my friend told me to make it flannel and make his scarf red, so I did. I think I’ve gotten flannel mostly down, but truthfully I’m not sure

But yeah overall I quite like his design

Now onto his character

So I said before he’s a chef. Well he still lives on the potato farm with his family, but he also acts as their cook, since he’s got aspirations of one day being a famous chef (though he’s currently a bit too young to pursue these dreams, he’s still a teenager). His dishes mainly consist of various things made of potatoes like potato salad, potato chips, potato pancakes, loaded potatoes, you get the picture. Also if they have a mill for potato flour/starch, I imagine he mans it as his main role on the farm

Other than that, he’s a sweet guy. A bit shy and sometimes easily startled, but he doesn’t have an ounce of malice in his dough. He just likes to make food for the people he cares about

And yeah I think that’s about it for Potato Chip, I hope you like him!

Alrighty time for another Art Breakdown yo

This time it’s of my design for Mumza: Because love is not dead, and I refuse to just leave Ghostbur hanging like he is in canon

Art Break down blow

I already had an Idea of how to turn our Lady Death’s Onesie skin into something a bit more of a loose interpterion of her MC Skin (I’m praying to God that I’m not having bad memory/the post I yooinked the ref imagine on was right

I knew wanted to up the grim reaper vibes, so I looked at Bleach’s Shinigami and yoinked their designs with out care or too much thought. (rather than thinking hmmm dose this make any sense story wise when considering both the popular headcanons and the straight up canon of Mumza and Bleach. There was no consideration for the Bleach characters as characters which is why I’m using Baraggan as Design inspo despite the fact that said former God-King doesn’t match best Lady’s vibes) I haven’t watched Bleach in over eight years so I knew better than to try and make some really cool or thematic reference. This is just not my area. 

Sorry real Bleach fan’s, you’re gonna have to deal with my ignorance and bastardization of your passion.

But before I get into that I’m gonna start of with her eyes:

She has a dark socket with a Hardcore Health Heart(Hx3) for an eye(Whether is is mirrored in her other eye or if she even has a other eyes is left up to the viewer).

She has a dark cloak with some fethery poofs that match the darker colors I use for Crow!Chat. The Cloak is clasped together by a crown piece that seems to have separated Yin and Yangs on it instead of gems. Too keep up with the panda theme.

Speaking of Crowns, she’s of course wearing one that pokes out of her hood! It has one large grain looking gem and four tiny circle gems visible. They’re all using the colors both from her eye as well as the darker color being the color that I didn’t use as much from HX

I gave her black gloves to keep with her skins coloration there, and yoinked  Baraggan’s fashion sense again and gave her bracelets. I also gave her a ton of rings because my brain was on autopilot, so instead of giving her her wedding ring I just gave her a hand full of rings and that “choice” just sort of stuck.

She has a Red Halo behind her which was suppose to be for power but then I colored it in so she’s also an Arch Angel now I guess. XD

Speaking of Halos; It’s the first Friend.

Glowing eyes of the dead and all!

I don’t know why I made him so small, but honestly? She could just be tall or he could’ve just shrunk in the after life. But either way, Friend like the other animals in this picture have glowing eyes.

They’re dead in a way but they do have some ability to go to the world of the living, thus giving their eyes a magical tint to them.

Okay but I love this Headcanon by @indecisiveaesthetic where Philza’s Murder of Crows started bringing offering to summon Kristen so Phil could her more. Which got me thinking what if they found a way to travel between worlds to feliver messages. So I headcanon’ed so the in lore reason for when she’s talking to him in chat is she’s talking to him via chat’s letters.

To travel between the world(s) of the living and dead the crows go through a familiar purple and green spiraled portal...

The two the letter’s have little wax seal roses, Green from Dadza, Red From Momza.

Alright back to making Bleach fan’s Cringe at my ignorance XD

So I ripped her scythes from Shūhei Hisagi though the ending have a golden bent and red ribbon more familiar to a certain Philza Minecraft Cosplayer /J

Speaking of whom...

Her coat here is inspired from ya boi, Kisuke Urahara, though her’s is from a time long past. 

Obviously to keep with the panda theme I had to do a little bit of color swapping but hey it makes the design her own.

Also once again I’m letting it up to interpataion on whether she has poofy pants or a plated skirt. Either way coming from the bottom of it is more sway-ier fabrics ripped from Baraggan. I just think his God-King design is Neat.

The Green and what was suppose to be Purple but became Pink because of lighting, shading, and color theory corner rose are on the nose but I like them.

I just wanted something nice to tie everything together and got this from a tarot card design for well, Death. I can’t remember where I saw the card design but that’s not the only one I need to keep an eye out for because it’s the same way with the pile of skulls. I want to credit even Tarrot Card’s in these breakdowns because Idk, over explaining things is a passion of mine. Last but not least is the background, which of course a reference art to the YCGMA album art because she’s coming to pick up her son, and they’re gonna have cool adventures together.

So I finally nailed down my designs for the black heart characters (except colossus, perry/predator and Madusa I'm still massing with them) along with some head canons! The characters might look a bit weird next to each other, I didn't draw them all on the same canvas. I know I'm suppose to but I was lazy and didn't want to re draw the refs on one canvas. I also appologize for this being so long.

I'm hoping to start a comic with these guys. I always end up saying no to projects like this because I don't think my art is good enough but I think I'm going to put my foot down this time!

Hal:

Can talk(unlike my version of Cyan)

Pretty laid back but knows when he needs to be serious

Will curse you out

Thinks Aura and Nautilus are cute together

His cape works as his "soul meter"(idk what to call it). It has 3 squares on the back that represent Hal's souls. The cape becomes tattered and ripped when souls are taken.

He just wants 5 minutes of peace without someone trying to take his souls, please give him his 5 minutes of peace.

Really hates colossus

In the context of black heart I don't consider him a nano bot. He can bleed and stuff like that.

When he sleeps his body starts to heal any wounds and mend his cloths. This leaves him defenseless as he will remain unconscious until it's finished. He tries not to sleep out in the open and often uses caves and trees as temporary shelters when he needs to sleep. This can also activate when he is knocked unconscious but in cases like with Colossus the healing part is stopped.

He can change colors but he prefers red. His cloths don't change colors with him. Just his skin and his cape.

Again, in he context of black heart, I imagine Hal just kinda woke up somewhere with a bit of knowlage about himself and that's about it. Shortly after works he ran into Aura and Nautilus for the first time. He considered the battle a joke.

Nautilus:

Has glowing markings all over his body. He can cause them to glow at will

Can only breath air for around 10 minutes( this time can decrease with some conditions such as heat or cold. This is because his gills need to be wet for him to breath air, so if it's really hot out his gills will dry out faster)

Has a stutter due to the N.A.T.U thing, among other things. Like trust issues when Xero is around

Is euryhalinr(this just means he can breath any kind of water)

His suit adds about 100lbs to him (material, water, and special boots to help with balance when moving around in the suit)

Likes to make jewlary with shells and stuff

Loves Aura to death. Would litterally die for her.

His teeth work like a shark's. One falls out? You've got plenty more to fill the gap! He has given pretty much all his friends breif heart attacks when he casually spits one out after they hear the loud bone cracking noise of a tooth braking. He keeps all the teeth.

Runs on all fours for some reason. No one knows why, including Aura.

Aura:

Learned all her magic from her parents

Her parents lived like hermits because they believed people still hold witch hunts. Aura hated this because she snuck out a lot and knew that this wasn't the case.

Can be a bit forgetful with spells so she always keeps her book with her at all times

Love Nautilus to death, would die for him too.

Can't swim, her body it denser then water so she just sinks. Nautilus is almost always with her when she's near water for this reason.

Aura's wand is broken but she just keeps fixing it with tape because she doesn't know how to make a new one. She also doesn't want to ask her parents because they wouldn't let her live it down.

Made the headphones Puffer wears so he doesn't have to worry about Siren trying to mind control him, again.

Aura has a secret garden. She uses it to grow her magic plants. It has a defense system that even Jestar can't get past. Only those she has given permission can enter, but those people can give temporary permission to others. Only Nautilus, Puffer and Solario have permission to go into the garden.

Has gotten use to the weird things Natalie can do.

Puffer:

A bit of a hermit, but will open up when he trusts someone

Always has his eyes closed because he thinks his eyes look scary. He can still see for some reason? (Like Brock from pokemon, idk how he could see but he traveled like 3-4 regions like that)

Changes colors depending on emotions. Blue is calm and happy, purple is upset and sad and red is anger and frustration.

Puffer can create lots of spikes all over his body if needed as well as a set of claws. He doesn't do this often.

Likes to cook but keeps it a secret from everyone. (Aura and Nautilus found out though, they just kept the secret)

He really doesn't like Siren after what she did to him, but he will talk to her and hang out with her if someone else he trusts is around.

Really wants to apologize to Hal but he hasn't gotten the chance to yet.

Is really self conscious.

He's not very good at swimming but Nautilus teaches him when Siren isn't around or in Aura's secret garden.

Siren:

Likes to sing for no reason

Has a not so small army of skeleton fish

Is litterally heartless (she doesn't like to talk about it)

Has a crush on Puffer but she doesn't know how to fix the bridge she burned with him

Plays chess with Myst a lot(and wins a lot, much to Myst's dismay)

She can shape shift her tail into a pair of legs. This was a "gift" from Jestar to help her be a better assassin for him

Thinks Xero is a prick

Likes to steal Xero's alcohol sometimes

Can water bend. She can't blood bend though. She's tried.

Likes rock and country music for some reason

Nautilus likes to play with her fish some times.

Knows a bit about necromancy. She doesn't like to talk about it though. She never does it in front of anyone besides her fish army

Myst:

Doesn't like to talk about his life outside work

Is well over 100 years old( he lost count)

Is very protective when it comes to Shade

Doesn't really understand Shade but will support her regardless

Likes to smoke when he thinks no one is around

Can create an umbrella to protect himself if he is caught outside when the sun comes up

Likes to play chess

Is basically a dad to the other assassins

Rarely opens his third eye. This usually only happens when he gets frantic, scared or extreamly angry

Does not have any remorse over killing Parry

He doesn't eat in front of others if it can be helped

Myst told Nautilus about Shade once. He had a bad feeling and asked that if anything happened to him Nautilus would take care of her. Only problem was no one thought about the address of Myst and Shade's mansion. He found her though, don't worry.

When he is exposed to sunlight it will immediately cause him to get sunburned. If he doesn't leave after about 30 seconds- 1 minute he will start to die slowly and painfully. He has taken a lot of tea baths because of the sun

Solario:

A big dork

Very loud and bubbly

Is a prince from a kingdom galaxies away from where black heart takes place in

Was suppose to marry the moon from the moon is getting away level (haven't given her a name yet) but she unknowingly broke Sol's heart so he left. He wanted her to be happy and he clearly couldn't give her that happiness.

Doesn't understand "mortal" things but wants to learn.

Nautilus taught him the word yeet and now he won't stop using it

I headcanon that his voice actor would Gary LeVox(lead singer of Rascal Flatts)(don't ask why, I can't change what has happened in my brain)

Will stop at nothing to see his friends happy

Likes hanging out with Aura, Nautilus and Puffer

Can make himself hotter or colder at will. He tends to stay at a heat that won't hurt others when the go near him, but not cold enough to cause himself harm.

If he gets to cold he can die. He also starts to become extreamly cold or extremely hot before death. The direction his tempature goes in is dependent on what he was doing before hand. (Example: reading a book, gets shot, starts to get colder and colder. Attacking Hal trying to get his soul, shapeshifts so much he almost blows himself up, gets hotter and hotter)

Can be a bit over dramatic sometimes

He is incredibly strong. He can lift both Puffer(who whieghs roughly 230 lbs) and Nautilus when he's in his suit(so about 250 lbs) with no trouble. He forgets about his stranghth some times and has accidentally thrown a few things before quickly trying to fix it.

His shapeshifting isn't limited to just objects, he can shape shift small things about him self like his cloths or his entire body into something like a dinosaur. He doesn't do it often though. Mostly just the cloths thing.

Jestar:

Yells a lot

Thinks everyone is incompetent except Xero, for some reason

Accidentally took Puffer when Siren joined do to a confusion about Sirens powers. He refused to send Puffer home.

Colossus is basically just his pet

Xero is the only one who can get away with yelling at Jestar. No one really knows why but they hold really long arguments about all sorts of stupid stuff

Did I mention he yells a lot? I did? Well I’m saying it again. He yells A LOT.

Can shapeshift in to anything

Does not know how to handle baby Madusa. He doesn't know how to handle people in general, and he thought creating a baby was a good idea.

Xero:

Left home because his mom and brother suck and he wanted to be a ghost hunter like the ones he saw on tv. He got his wish for like 2 hours?

Transforms into Predator during the full moons and special moons. Special moons can have different effects on his transformation and mental state. Like a blood moon causes him to become more blood thirsty but a blue moon causes him to actually retain his normal mental state.

He has a habit of spiraling about everything

Predator:

Can't say anything understandable

Each part of his head has a brain so they agrue sometimes

Around 5X the size of Parry

Acts like a dog sometimes

Would have probably just ate Hal instead of taking the souls.

Madusa:

Can breath underwater and air without issue

Doesn't like the fact that he looks like Nautilus

Hasn't figured out how to swim fast like nautilus yet but won't admit it

Calls Jestar dad

Actually gets along well with Xero

Xero calls him Moccasin

Has markings like Nautilus but they only glow in the dark and they aren't as bright

He's allergic to shell fish

Actually had about a 2 week period where he was a kid. Xero and Jestar just gave him a special serum that caused I'm to grow up faster.

Most of his teeth ended up like Aura's but his canines are significantly sharper then they would be. Xero also found an extra set of teeth under Madusa's adult teeth.

Doesn't like the idea that his whole life rests on a tiny, easy to brake, stone on his head but just rolls with it.

Scared Jestar and Xero a lot during his first few days of life. He not only descovered his allergy to shell fish but almost got himself caught by the others a bunch of times.

Wowee wow wow, the final part of Fixing RWBY volume 4 is finally out! Which means I can finally share all the art I’ve been sitting on and holding back on sharing this entire time!

First up is Ruby! Basically we wanted to return her to more of a gothic lolita aesthetic. Covering her back up because hey she’s a young teen was definitely a factor. I also wanted her to feel a little more sporty and practical.

Then comes Jaune. For him we wanted to push him to feel much more knightly. He’s always just looked way too casual, and we wanted to fix that. His helm took a couple tries to get quite right in terms of design while keeping its function, for which I thank ButterflyBlueLady over on twitter as the other character designer for smoothing out.

Then comes Ren! Ren actually came pretty naturally to me, and basically it was fun to really hammer in a wuxia aesthetic for him.

For Nora we wanted her to be a matching pair to Ren, since after all they share the same backstory. So she also got the asiatic fashion treatment, as well as a piece of samurai armor in the form of a morokode, which in its original function is a rash guard, but damn if it doesn’t look nice when worn on the outside too. xD

Weiss was actually pretty difficult to design for! We didn’t know right away what sort of vibe she should give off or how much we should really deviate from her canon v4 design. One thing was for sure, we wanted to make white one of the most prominent and dominant colors on her outfit again, which I think we accomplished.

Blake we wanted to make sure had some really nice casual wear since she’s taking it easy for the moment in the tropics, and most importantly, we had to cover up her stomach!! That plus her guard uniform made for a great outfit combination, especially since the canon guard uniform already has all of her colors in it.

While we liked Yang’s canon casual outfit well enough, we felt her “adventuring” clothes really needed some work, especially since the canon design was so top-heavy. We wanted to go for a more practical biker aesthetic, for which I referenced 50s british biker fashion in order to carry the right classic punk vibes. I also referenced ouji fashion a bit for her, something I also did a little bit for Blake as well. I was especially keen on trying to make yellow a more prominent part of her palette this time.

Ooh-la-la, Adam was even harder to design for than Weiss, if you can believe it! We wanted him to return more to his roots, but also make him more impressive and leader-like since he’s in the spotlight now and heading the white fang. A black coat felt too samey, and while a white coat was considered, it felt too far off and not quite right for him and his arc. Hence, we opted for a dazzling red coat with lush vine patterns all over, as well as on his waistcoat and pants. Making him both cool and stylish was what we aimed for!

And finally Roman, the surprise redesign that nobody saw coming! He was so much fun to design for, but so tough to keep a secret from everybody so his survival would be a surprise! The main idea behind his redesign was to make him look more business casual, a bit lowkey with some scars after surviving his grimm ordeal. We also introduced some green into his design here to both hint at Ozpin’s presence, and because it matches so prettily with his eyes~

Last but certainly not least, here’s the scene I illustrated which appears in this video! I actually made this before Adam’s ref sheet, since nobody knew about his redesign at the time, and I had my own, rougher guide to follow from the concept art that was done for him. I actually posed in a chair with a prop sword on the front porch and had my mom take a picture of me to use as reference, when the lighting from the sun was just right. I’m glad I took the time to do so, I think it helped a lot for making the pose and the shading look more natural xD

It’s been an incredible experience to work on FRWBY this year! There was a lot of learning and growth as I adjusted to the role of being one of the character designers, and despite some difficulties, it was pretty fun too~ I look forward to continuing to contribute to the project for the foreseeable future and for illustrating for Fixing RWBY vol5!

Finally finished the Doriath crowd (some of them, at least). So the Doriath royal family + Daeron, Beleg, and Mablung!

this is gonna be long... why did i decide to make so many characters. the count is up to 72 now. 72. And I might add others like Oropher and Thranduil and Voronwë if, you know, i I feel like torturing myself

- i was honestly not going to include daeron, beleg, or mablung and then i realized that 80% of the reason im making this is so my friend, who is constantly lost about the silmarillion (yet valiantly tries to read the fanfics i rec) has a reference and even though these are mostly minor characters i was like... oh well time to draw them. i still quite enjoy the detail that the sindar look a lot like the noldor and most of them have black/brown hair so i gave him that + the typical doriath skin color bc im an idiot and forgot to add more genetic diversity to doriath aljdlkfdslkfds

- why does everyone draw beleg with silver hair????? i realize it might be 90% not caring that silver hair is usually a trait of thingol’s kin or i mean, he might also have silver hair on his own, but if that got described in the silm i completely didnt process it and so now im just so curious. is it canon?? is it fanon??? is it fanon so fanon it might be canon??? pls enlighten me

anyway regardless of the reason im really into silver haired beleg lmao. i went ahead and did it. he’s actually reffed from a real person for once! isn’t this guy just so hot??? i dont think i meant him to be beleg when i pinned the image but when i was trying to figure out how to draw beleg i saw it and i was just like!!!  so i follow my thirsty brain instincts

- mablung i have like zero mental image for but i finally realized i could like... use more than one skin color for doriath.... ..... ...... so i went ahead and did it. kinda inspired by a google search of his name tbh??? in related news if anyone is up for hearing me gush about dakkun39′s silm art at them for 30 minutes hit me up bc these were some of the first silm fanarts i ever saw and they STAYED WITH ME i LOVE the piece with galariel at the first kinslaying like THAT SHAPED HOW I SAW THAT ENTIRE SCENE and the first time i saw it i had no idea who any of these people were i LOVE IT 100% that’s my entire galadriel look headcanon. im also quite fond of their haleth and all of their maedhros pieces are amazing as well

- i’ve done thingol melian and luthien so moving onto beren... uhhh idk about beren im always torn between ‘scruffy forest man hasn’t bathed in a decade’ and ‘handsome rugged dude’ and i landed far away from both but im okay with this?? the real question is why he’s blond. normally i picture him with dark hair?? i think i should blame the internet for telling me his hair in canon is blond cuz i... do... try and respect canon... usually.....

- i really love this one hc that dior the fair looks like beren hahaha. he looks enough like luthien that ppl can praise the resemblance, but truthfully he much more closely resembles Young Handsome Lordling Beren. i feel like i messed up his eyes but i’ll... fix that in post production

- nimloth!!! another person i have no headcanon for except “dark hair question mark” i used the opportunity to try and draw a cool headdress i saw on pinterest... with dubious results.... also curious that she wears a crown/headdress and dior doesn’t...

- elured and elurin!!! i had to draw them as kids for obvious reasons :’c they’re wearing simple child clothing i guess, and have silver hair bc they’re elu’s heirs so im guessing that to ear that title when they’re like, 6, they must resemble great grandpa a bit (also im quite fond of the silver haired elu twins hc)

- conversely, elwing resembles melian! not actually a headcanon i had but it really worked here???? also i like that out of all of melian’s descendents besides luthien (who is always an outlier and should not be counted), elwing is the one that actually uses maia-adjacent powers (i do like the idea that the power to transform was somewhere inside of her, and ulmo helped bring it out. im not sure a normal elf would survive literally turning into a bird).

i actually drew like, 4 different versions of elwing. there’s child elwing, adult elwing with nauglimir, bird elwing, and adult elwing without nauglimir

in related news, i now need to draw earendil with the silmaril forehead lamp to make everything consistent

- the one thing i’ve learned from this is that even with refs i cant draw kids ahahahah... something to practice on i guess

- also in case anyone was curious ive now finished 57 characters. the only remaining elves that are currently on the list (aka: the house of finwe. tho knowing me im prooobably gonna add voronwe... *sigh*) are gil-galad, gwindor (boyfriends and spouses count as part of the house, right? of course they do thats why i drew them), arwen, elladan and ellohir (mostly bc im still debating whether to give them the noldor background color or the sindar bg color), and glorfindel and echtelion who are not part of the house of finwe (tho they might be depending on the headcanon) but are relevant enough imma draw them anyway. the remaining rest are humans (me, biased?? nooooo)
