The Cat King of Port Townsend.
This was originally for @dbdcentral and the Dead Boy Detective Appreciation Week, but it ended up taking longer than expected.
What if the birds in Port Townsend start calling Monty their king after a while (post S1 and Monty can shapeshift) and he doesn't know about this and one day he is just in the cannery relaxing with Thomas and he hears an injured bird outside and helps them and the bird is just like "thank you my king" and Monty is completely flabbergasted and Thomas is surprised but also kind of proud of the boy crow.
Do y’all think the reason the cat king always wears a skirt is because he still has a tail in human form and it’s a lot easier to deal with/hide under a skirt rather than pants
Do you think maybe Edwin saw his tail flicking back and forth under the skirt when he was agitated and like any good detective put the clues together
Do you think that Edwin also put together that the best way to deal with his agitation when he’s at tail flicking stage is to play with the hair at the nape of his neck/scratch at his scalp
Cat King siblings ? YEP TOTALLY ! Took 10h on this all day and i am so glad to be done now ! To be fair, it’s not for fanfic cause i’m not great at writing, it’s just a small family headcanon, i’ll be glad if anyone uses it 🫶
If you want any more of them, i’ll be glad to make comics/more art abt it if there’s any subjection too 🫶
Summary: Thomas turned into his human form. He had his hair slicked back, a purple button-up shirt, and tight leather pants, those yellow eyes staring into your soul." I am down here, looking goddamn adorable, and you're just going to ignore me?"
It was late. About 11 o'clock late. You were taking a walk around town, It was something you did often. Late night strolls always calmed you down. The somewhat chilly air, the crickets, the stars. It was all so therapeutic. You wrapped your jacket tighter around yourself, a small shiver going down your spine.
Suddenly, you felt something soft and fluffy rub against your leg. You looked down, seeing an orange cat.
“Thomas.” You acknowledged him with a smile. You ran into him regularly. It was like he wanted to be near you at all times. Which was weird for the cat king, but you didn't really mind. He was one to isolate himself from everyone.
You continued walking as the cat followed you, meowing constantly, like he was aggravated. It was honestly kind of funny, seeing an almost immortal being begging for your attention. He liked his attention. That's something you found out fairly quickly. It was quite cute also, but that was just a bonus.
Thomas turned into his human form. He had his hair slicked back, a purple button-up shirt, and tight leather pants, those yellow eyes staring into your soul." I am down here, looking goddamn adorable, and you're just going to ignore me?"
You smiled, turning to look at him with a raised eyebrow. His arms were crossed with a childish pout on his face. Like he was a kid who didn't get what they wanted.
“Pay attention to me-” he whined, the only light illuminating him was the streetlight above, which make his eyes shine. He was beautiful, that you couldn't deny, but his needy personality drowned that all out.
You didn't mind giving him the attention he craved, but you just loved his pouty face when he didn't get what he wanted. He turned himself back into a cat, stepping in front of you, trying to make you stop walking by blocking your pathway.
You chuckled and gave in, picking him up. He immediately nuzzled into you. Rubbing his head under your chin, purring.
“Happy now?” He meowed, so you took that as a yes. He purred as you scratched under his chin.“I'm starting to think you like me.”
You could hear a tiny growl come from him. Maybe he likes you. A big MAYBE. He would never admit, though. You were simply the mortal he liked getting pets from… Okay, perhaps he liked you.
He cared about you and he hated it. He loved how you were always so gentle with him. And with you, he felt less… Lonely. The many years alone with a ton of trust issues made it hard for him to bond with anyone really. But you were different.“Admit it, you love me.”
Though he was scared. What if you didn't like him as much when he was a human. For someone whose persona is being an arrogant, cocky bastard, but he was terrified deep down under.
He buried his face in your chest as you pet him, purring softly, though loud enough that you could hear. You ran your fingers through his fluffy fur, enjoying the softness. He let his guard down with you, he trusted you.
You continued walking until he jumped out of your arms, turning himself back into a human for the second time. You didn't question it as he walked with you down the sidewalk. There was silence before Thomas broke it.
“Why do you keep me around?” He asked.
“Because you're not so bad once you get used to your creeping around.”
You leaned in and kissed his cheek. A blush growing on his face.
“I'll see you tomorrow, Thomas.” With that, you walked away. You turned your head back and gave him a smile. He stared, putting his hand on his cheek. He felt a tingling sensation where your lips met his face. His heart skipped a beat when you looked back. He turned around, walking back to his warehouse he called a home.
You ran down the alley way before cursing yourself, dead end. You backed up, the brick was cold against your wet skin. The storms of Port Townsend were relentlessly strong as of late. The thunder and lightning were scary enough without the rain and three drunk men following you. And now you were trapped. You slipped on your cat knuckles - two sharp brass knuckles that looked like a cat keychain if you didn’t look too close. You had never used them before, a friend gave them to you before you moved to Port Townsend. The three men finally made their way down the alleyway. A small black kitten popped out from one of the knocked over trash cans, one of the men kicking trash water at it.
“Go kitty, go!” you shooed it, not wanting the small creature to get hurt. The cat looked back at you before running off. You looked back to the men, time felt slow. All you heard was your breathing and heartbeat in your ears.
“Come on baby… all we want is a little fun, you’ll like it…” one of the men slurred while the others laughed. They were too far gone to be reasonable but not gone enough to not be considered a threat.
You clenched your fists, trying to steady your shaking hands before you had to fight.
“Darling?!” you heard from the entry of the alleyway. The three men and you all looked at him. He was quite handsome, and you were in no place to pass up somebody trying to save your ass.
“Honey?” you said back, trying to sound firm but your voice quivered.
The man walked halfway down the alley before holding a hand out for you, “Come on my love, these men look… unsavory.” he said, eyes glancing between them.
None of the men moved, confused and in a drunken haze. “Hey fuck off man, we saw them first!” one shouted before moving to slap the handsome man's outstretched hand.
The man snatched the drunk man's hand, yanking the man towards him and shoving him against the brick wall by his throat, “I can assure you… you don’t want to do this.” he said with a smile.
The drunken friends of the man moved towards their friend, “Hey man… come on let him go… they’re all yours…” one said with his hands up.
The man let him go, he fell to the ground, coughing while his friends helped him up. The handsome stranger walked over to you, holding out his hand once again, “Shall we?”
You looked between him and the three drunkards before taking his hand, keeping the cat knuckles on as you walked with him. “Where to?” he asked.
“The docks, by the cannery.” you mumbled, still grappling with the whole ordeal that just happened. You kept a hold of the man's hand before he moved it to hold his arm so he could help you walk in the rain. You heard a soft ‘mew’ come from a drain pipe as you walked down the street. You let go of the man, jogging over to the black kitten from earlier. The man hung back, watching as you gently picked the kitten up. “Oh you poor thing…” you said, wiping the muck away from the cat's eyes. You walked back over to the man, keeping the kitten close to your chest.
“What will you do with him?” the man asked as he offered his arm to you again.
You looked down to the kitten who was nuzzling into your chest, searching for warmth. “Take care of him… maybe we were meant to find each other.”
The man smiled.
“I’m Y/N by the way… thank you for helping me.” you said.
The man smiled at you, “Thomas… and of course. A friend to cats is a friend of mine.”
You smiled at him, walking down the boardwalk next to the cannery. You stepped onto one of the larger sail boats; the man kept hold of one of your hands, a quizzical look on his face as if he were unsure if he was welcome on the boat. You smiled at him again before giving his hand a small tug. He followed you onto the boat and below deck.
“This isn’t a normal boat.” he said looking at the unusually spacious below deck area. It had multiple rooms, almost like a whole house was below deck.
“And you’re not a normal man.” you said, tossing him a towel before shedding your wet clothes and replacing them with dry ones. You gently toweled off the kitten, turning on a heating pad for him, setting a blanket on top of it before placing him on top. The kitten stretched out with a yawn before nuzzling into the blanket. You patted his head before walking over to the man. “Don’t worry I’m not a witch… well not yet at least. My great aunt left me this boat, she was a light witch and when she died she left the house to me… well… the boat. I’m trying to learn from her necronomicon but it's a slow process.” you sighed, magic wasn’t seemingly your forte but it was in your blood so you believed you could learn it slowly.
Thomas smiled at you, seemingly enjoying your integrity towards learning. “So I guess the cats out of the bag?” he smirked.
You chuckled before giving him a small curtsey “Your majesty.”
He laughed at your gesture, gently taking your hand from your side and kissing your knuckles. You blushed at him, not entirely used to affection. You grew up with your aunt and were kept pretty secluded from the rest of the town, having everything you could ever want or need on the boat. The Cat King noticed your blush, smirking at his typical flirty ways having such an effect on you. “So it's just you? Sounds lonely…” he said, you didn’t miss how his lips downturned for a moment.
“It is…” you said before placing a quick peck to his cheek, “but I make due. And now with my precious little one,” you looked at the snoozing kitten, “I won't be entirely alone.”
It was Thomas’ turn to blush, “Well I’ll have to drop by more… to check on my cat that is… and my darling.” he said, holding your hand.
You blushed and looked away from him, “I’d like that.”
