IT IS A GOOD DAY TO BE A STAR WARS FAN. IT IS A GOOD DAY TO BE A STAR WARS FAN WHO WAS RIGHT.

I think my biggest problem right now is that the way Sabine’s story progressed and ended made enough sense for Ahsoka Sabine, but feels deeply unfitting for Rebels Sabine, not in a “she’s changed and grown since then” way but in a “this is a different character” way, and I think a lot of that is centered on the decision to make her a jedi.
From her first appearance in Rebels, Sabine is competent, strong-willed, and determined to fight for what she believes is right. As we go through the show, we learn more about where that came from. It’s pretty clear that she considers the Ghost crew family, and that she found new hope and meaning in working with them, as well as that her Mandalorian heritage is a huge part of how she was shaped into the person she is. Furthermore, we see that she’s driven by the need to make amends for her past mistakes, to protect her loved ones where she previously helped put them in danger, albeit without intending to.
When Kanan trains Sabine with the Darksaber, we see that it doesn’t work well for her to train exactly like a Jedi, because she’s not using the saber as a Jedi, she’s using it as a Mandalorian. It is another weapon in her arsenal and, more importantly, a symbol that she can use to help bring her people together—and she uses it to do so.
Sabine’s arc is so cool and so special to me because her path as both a character and a member of the rebellion are just as important as Ezra’s: she is given depth and interests, and the fact that she isn’t a Jedi doesn’t make them worth any less.
A prime example of this is Sabine’s art. It’s a BIG part of her self-expression throughout Rebels. It’s a connection with her family, a way to express herself and commemorate moments, and—in the most Mandalorian move possible—a weapon she uses against the enemy, both symbolically via the symbol of the Rebellion and literally, through the use of explosive spray paint. And sometimes this is played as a joke (think Sabjne painting the bunk crash on Zeb and Ezra’s wall) but it also legitimately comes into play (think Sabine interpreting the mural entrance to the world between worlds or Thrawn commenting on her art).
Rebels Sabine brings so much to the table, and there was so much in her character that could have been explored without making her a Jedi. Not everyone is a Jedi, and it’s good to remember that even heroes can be normal people who stepped up.

Things that went through my mind during Ahsoka Episode 6
Ahsoka is talking about not having enough time to prepare Sabine to make the right choice about leaving to find Ezra, when I don’t think any amount of training could have changed her mind. Kanan’s gone, Hera, Chopper and Zeb are often off doing New Republic stuff. Even with Ahsoka back as her Master, she is probably still feeling extremely alone. She loves Ezra, and there is no way Ahsoka could have convinced her not to go.
“Perhaps for Sabine it was the only choice.” See, Huyang gets it
Huyang saying “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away” is making me laugh my ass off
It’s hilarious, yet makes me slightly uncomfortable, since Star Wars never really breaks the fourth wall
How dare they not let Sabine share a room with her new girlfriend, Shin
OKAY BUT SERIOUSLY. LOOK AT THE WAY SHIN LOOKS AT SABINE IN THE COCKPIT, I love my space lesbians
Wow, Shin has talked more in this episode than she has in the whole show so far.
Baylon DEFINITELY has his own plan he is hiding from Morgan and the witches. Can’t wait to see how that goes
SABINE IS FINALLY USING THE FO- oh, never mind
The shot of the battered Star Destroyer arriving combined with the music is giving me chills
Hey, those are some cool ass looking Stormtroo- OH SHIT ITS THRAWN
ITS ABOUT TIME
Such an amazing entrance into live-action for him. I feel it is definitely succeeding at letting casual, non-rebel-watching fans know how important and how big of a figure he is.
I’m sorry but he still totally looks like a blue Elon Musk.
Soooooo… Where’s Ezra?
I just know Ezra would love collecting all those cool Stormtrooper helmets
I don’t know what the rat-dog thing  is but I love him
SABINE USE YOUR LIGHTSABER
Oh hey, she actually listened to me
Lars Mikkelsen is doing a great job so far at portraying Thrawn in live-action. His mannerisms and body language are just like they were in Rebels.
STOP YELLING AT THE RAT-DOG, SABINE, HE CAME BACK AND IS TRYING HIS BEST
No, but seriously Rat-Dog is adorable and I would die for him
*Me singing* Teenage mutant ninja turtles, teenage mutant ninja turtles!
TMNT-looking dudes know Ezra… Okay where is he then??
AGHHHJBJKSDK IT’S EZRA
EZRA I MISSED YOU *actually crying*
Ngl I’m kind of sad his hair isn’t blue BUT I’M STILL SO HAPPY HE’S HERE
We all needed that hug, let’s be honest
Rat-dog is called a Howler? Good to know.
I was so scared that Ezra would be all traumatized, depressed, and a shell of himself when we saw him again, I’m so happy that’s not the case. He seems to be doing great, all things considering
I wonder if Sabine will give him back his lightsaber, or if he has been using the force at all since he’s been gone.
I hate to nitpick, but, they made his eyes blue (which I’m happy about) but not his hair??
Oh right, for a few minutes, I actually forgot Ahsoka was on her way and that this was her show
Like how last episode was for TCW fans, this episode was for Rebels fans!! Another great episode.

Ahsoka ep 6 thoughts
Ahsoka asking for a children's story and even having a favorite version. She's one of us! <3
"A long time ago in a galaxy far far away" That line went straight for the jugular huh
Intergalactic rainbow hyperspace travel my beloved
The music when arriving on Peridea is right on point. Also love the design with the rings being bones fragments. Very cool and unsettling stuff.
Can't say I'm a fan of the Nightsister lore retcon, even if it does explain Morgan's role in navigating between galaxies
Wait was that Claudia Black? Morrigan in Star Wars?
Thrawn making a dramatic ass entrance lmao
THRAWN!!! I missed your voice!!!!
That hairline is yikes but aside from that he looks faithful to the cartoon
More backstory on Baylan and Shin! I think we all knew that she wasn't from the Order, but I still want to know how she fell in with Baylan.
Sabine and the howler was oddly endearing, ngl
EZRA!!!! HOLY FUCKIGM SHIT
Ezra Bridger my beloved
Five years of waiting! Finally over!!!
People speculating if he'd have long hair or a beard. Why not both??
Eman Esfani is on point. Really great casting!
"I can't wait to go home" OOF. And Sabine's face when he says that! That line made me tear up. Even assuming he gets to return with Ahsoka and Huyang, that still hurts like hell
God he's going to be so mad when he finds out what she pulled to get here. Not looking forward to the emotional pain of that conversation.
Where's Ahsoka???
A bit weird that the titular character only had like five minutes of screentime, but at least the plot moved forward in a significant way. I imagine episodes 7 and 8 will make up for it.
I feel like we're in store for a Baylan/Shin and Sabine/Ezra teamup. Thrawn and Morrigan leave them to die, and Ezra (being the generally compassionate person that he is) insists on taking them with him when he returns to the GFFA.

Location - Dathomir
Tumblr media
Now finally having returned to the proper Galaxy, Grand Admiral Thrawn and his Modified Imperial Star Destroyer I; Chimaera, prepared to utilize the Imperial Presence on Dathomir to regain contact with the Empire and resume operations.
That was when a familiar Bounty Hunter's ship approached the Chimaera.
Tumblr media
"ISD Chimaera, requesting permission to board. I have a Prisoner who wished to see the Grand Admiral. They're paying top credits."
Tumblr media
"Permission granted, Slave I. Proceed to Hanger Bay."
Once the Slave I had docked successfully with the warship, Grand Admiral Thrawn was already waiting for him there. Once the ship had landed and unloaded the entry ramp, the two stepped out. First was Fett.
"Thrawn."
Tumblr media
BGM: Star Wars - Grand Admiral Thrawn Theme (Samuel Kim Ver)
"Boba Fett. What brings the esteemed Bounty Hunter of the Hutt Cartel to my presence?"
Tumblr media
"I have someone with me in custody who requested an audience with you. After they stowed away on my ship whilst on a job."
Tumblr media
Boba pointed to the girl next to him, which ended up being...
Tumblr media
...Yep. It was Adult Neptune. Thanks to having reabsorbed Croire into her Nep Note, she has certainly been getting around. First she ended up arriving at an alternate Earth and bringing an army of Transformers, and now she ended up in the Star Wars Known Universe.
"Uh hi, your uh, royal-ness!"
Tumblr media
"Watch your mouth."
Tumblr media
"It's quite alright."
Tumblr media
Thrawn walked over to Adult Neptune and broke the cuffs that were binding her, which prompted a shocked reaction from her.
Tumblr media
Why did he just release her? This prompted most of the Stormtroopers in the Hanger Bay to slowly raise their weapons, but Thrawn held out his hand and ordered them not to fire.
"What's your name, girl?"
Tumblr media
"Neptune."
"I see. Well, Neptune. Welcome aboard my personal flagship; the Chimaera. I will show you around."
Tumblr media
A Officer rushed over and gave Boba a bunch of credits, as well as a datapad that effectively ordered him to be under his command for the time being. He reluctantly accepted the deal, and followed after the two.
As he showed her around, she was bewiled at all the technology, as well as some art pieces that were hanging around some of the walls. It seemed to her at least that he was a collector as well as a high ranking official of the Empire, far as she could tell from her time in this Universe.
As they got to the bridge, Thrawn was quick to discuss something.
"You are not from our Galaxy, are you? You certainly don't dress like your average Imperial Citizen, nor do you bare any weaponry of our nature."
Tumblr media
"Yeah, that's a long story. But to be quick with ya, it's my fancy book! See, I absorb things into it and I get their powers! I can hop between Universes so long as I think about it!"
Tumblr media
"I see. Interesting. So tell me, why exactly are you looking for me? You must of done some research but why me in particular?"
Tumblr media
"Well, my friends got their homes back after their prior were destroyed, and I'm mostly just on the lookout for cool people to help them! And well, you seem like you know what ya'll are doing so won't you come see them?"
Tumblr media
"Intriguing."
Thrawn had a think about it for a moment. All the while this conversation was going on, Boba was standing guard by the Bridge entrance with his rifle cradled in his arms as he usually is.
"So. How do you propose we enter this world of yours? While we are technologically advanced, we do not possess the means of multi-dimensional travel, as you put it during our conversation on the way here."
Tumblr media
"Well, I'll just make a portal in front of your ship and you can jump through it like you normally would!"
"Very well then. All hands. Take off from this system and follow my instructions."
Tumblr media
On his word, the Chimaera slowly began take off and lift into the space layer. Neptune concentrated for a good while and created a semi decently sized portal using her Nep Note in front of the Star Destroyer. The ship then proceeded to enter it and come out at the other side, which was...
Tumblr media
The right hand side of Lastation! The opposite end of the map, with the side on the left of Leanbox being where the Decepticon Warship was located.
Thrawn opened the Bridge hatches and exposed the glass to the air around them, and saw witness to Gamindustri.
"So this is your home."
Tumblr media
"Pretty cool, huh?"
Tumblr media
"Indeed. We shall make the necessary preparations."
-=-=-=-=-
Tumblr media
"I've got to get down there and warn them. They have no idea just how much destruction the Empire can cause. I already know what they did to my brothers once they stopped being useful."
Exclaimed Clone Commander Rex, former Captain of the 501st Legion which in this era was adeptly renamed to "Vader's Fist." Rex spared no expense, and snuck aboard a TIE Fighter, taking it out of the Hanger.
-=-=-=-=-
"Admiral Thrawn, sir. A TIE Fighter has departed from the Hanger Bay unannounced. Shall we blast it out of the sky?"
"Shall I pursue the target?"
Tumblr media
"No. Let it go."
Tumblr media
"This is going exactly how I want it to."

Heir to the Empire - Timothy Zahn
3.5/5 - Solid entrance to the trilogy, SO much of modern Star Wars should be thanking Zahn for the logic he sets up here
5 years post-RotJ, the New Republic has a fragile hold on the galaxy, but the Empire still lurks in the shadowy corners.
This was my first foray into the Star Wars literary canon universe (RIP) and it was actually a lot of fun! Zahn manages to capture the voices of Luke, Han, and Leia in a surprisingly distinct fashion while creating a villain that is sufficiently clever so as to be terrifying. I may be biased because I enjoyed Rebels, but I digress.
The introduction of (mad) Jorus C'Baoth, a clone of an older Jedi master, makes the whole plot much more interesting and raises the stakes for both sides. Despite Thrawn using C'Baoth, the Jedi is so clearly unstable that it's unlikely to be a tenable command. I thought C'Baoth's insistence on bending people to his will was almost gross in its desire at times, but he plays his role well.
The book does lose itself at times in technical descriptions and Mara/Luke's trek through the forest takes a bit longer than it should, in my opinion.
Meanwhile, Leia is just as cool and capable as she's ever been, and I really enjoyed Zahn showing that she was frustrated and struggling with her Jedi abilities, particularly since they're never mentioned with any seriousness. Han was sweet and obsessed with her, as he should be, but this further explains Han's connections in the underworld. Lots of space-politicking, which I really liked, and a solid entrance to the trilogy.

Hilarious tidbits from me and my siblings watching Mando
"Are we going to recap the entire show up to now?" "yeah, but they don't say anything about Boba Fett" "Oh because that's not important at all" - my siblings during the series recap
"YO"/"Hard to beat that entrance"/"Guess what we're having for dinner, boys!" - the myriad reactions when Mando swoops in and obliterates the giant croc
"Looking into hyperspace cannot be good for you, child" "eh, he'll be fine" "isn't hyperspace sickness a thi--OH MY GOSH SPACE WHALES" "ASK THEM WHERE THRAWN AND EZRA ARE" - honestly how we retain anything while screaming like this is a wonder
"Why do these guys look like live action Hondo thugs?" "oh darn they don't work for Hondo" "dude did all of them really just ignore the menacing guy in full armor in the background?? Idiots"
*when seeing the pirate captain for the first time* "ew"
"Is Bo-Katan pouting?" "Yes" "Absolutely" (bonus: literally every time she complains about Din being part of a cult all of us respond with some variation on "YOU WERE PART OF DEATH WATCH SHUT UP")
(episode 2) "Did she just con him?" "Yes" "okay cool"
"Din just because the atmosphere is breathable doesn't mean that Mandalore isn't cursed." *sees the freaky cavemen with clubs* "TOLD YOU"
"Every time they say Mines of Mandalore I expect them to say the Mines of Moria. Actually, I'm just gonna call it that"
*on seeing the cyborg thing* "EW EW EW EW KILL IT" (this was repeated every time it left a certain shell and started running around in something ELSE utterly horrifying)
"There's a Mythosaur in the mines, isn't there?"
*on seeing the entrance to the mines* "I TOLD YOU IT'S LITERALLY THE MINES OF MORIA"
"MYTHOSAUR I TOLD YOU SO--that's the end of the episode??!?!" "Tune in next week to see them all get eaten by a legendary creature! Woohoo!"

Ahsoka ep. 6- Far, Far Away
Warning: Spoilers below!
As a huge fan of Star Wars Rebels, this episode was EVERYTHING!
Not only did we get the return of Thrawn, with such an apropos entrance, but we finally got the Sabine and Ezra reunion. And oh my goodness, was it so sweet!
The way I was (internally) screaming during both of their entrances (hey, I gotta be considerate to my neighbors). I just, I don't know how to put it into words. Probably still processing everything too, but the fact that I have been waiting since the Rebels finale in 2018 to know a) what happened to Ezra and Thrawn, b) where they ended up, and c) to have Sabine find/reunite with Ezra, and all of these were essentially answered/happened tonight, is insane to me.
I remember sitting down and all the anticipation I had while watching that series finale. So, to kinda have that experience again with tonight's new episode of Ahsoka is incredibly special to me. I don't know if full circle is the right word, but considering how much has changed in my own life since the Rebels finale, it's almost nostalgic for me to be able to return to this sense of familiarity and excitement over a new episode of Star Wars Rebels Ahsoka.
Somewhat unrelated to the majority of this post, but it was also so cool to see the Night Sisters in this episode. And the conversations Baylan Skoll had with Shin Hati, it made me even more intrigued with Baylan as a character and fall in love with the late Ray Stevenson's performance.
.
.
.
My opinions of this series and its story have honestly been mixed. And while I cannot say ep. 6 completely changed or swayed my opinion one way, I appreciate how this episode let me experience such genuine excitement again over Star Wars.

Whumptober - Day 13
Chapter 10
Prompt 23 - Shadows
Ezra stumbled out of the downed gunship, the blaster he’d picked up from the ground held shakily in his hands. After he’d used the Force to remove the cuffs around his wrists, he’d briefly considered killing both troopers and Thrawn. But they were all unconscious and it didn’t feel right, even after everything that happened. He couldn’t bring himself to do it. So he focused on just putting as much distance between him and them as possible.
He had no idea where in the galaxy they were, let alone what planet. It was rocky and bright, with at least two suns that he could see. He stuck to the shade as best he could. They’d appeared to have crashed in a mountain range and the jagged peaks provided intermittent relief from the intense sunlight.
He hadn’t been walking too long when he found a deep crevice between two rocks. He was covered in sweat, exhausted from the strain he’d been through bringing the ship to whatever this place was, not to mention the crash and and now his hike over difficult terrain, and blood was trickling down the side of his face from a cut on his temple. He figured he could allow himself to rest for a bit in this natural shelter.
Only, it was more than just a crevice. As Ezra went deeper and deeper inside, he soon realized it was a cave. And not just a singular room, either. There appeared to be offshoots into other sections as well, and there was light as well. Swaths of the walls and ceiling were covered in some sort of bioluminescent plant, giving off a cool but comforting bluish-greenish glow. He might not have seen much, if any, form of life on the planet’s surface, plant or animal, but under the surface seemed to be an entirely different story – small plants, insects, skitterings of small creatures across the rocks. And what was more, he could hear running water!
Invigorated by the prospect of having something to drink, Ezra surged on, following the sound.
It took a while to find the source of the water – a small waterfall emptying into a pool. Ezra got to his knees and dunked his head straight into the water, gulping down mouthfuls of the cool, sweet liquid.
He came up, gasping, lying on his back by the side of the pool and just breathed, relishing in the chance to simply relax for a moment. He was safe, at least for the time being. He could worry about trying to find a way off of this world and back home later. He–
Movement. The sound of a rock clattering against rock.
Ezra was up in an instant, wobbling only slightly as he brought his blaster up and aimed it at the entrance he’d come through, which was the only way into this cave as far as he could tell. The bioluminescence was here, too, but it didn’t cast enough light to see details. Only shadows. And one of them just moved.
There was no place to hide or take cover, so Ezra stood his ground and waited for whatever, or whoever came through the tunnel.
The sound of footsteps came closer, the shadows moving more. This other being had light with them, Ezra could see now. Closer…closer…and then–
His breath caught. Glowing red eyes.
No. It couldn’t be. He couldn’t have found him this quickly! The thought of some sort of tracker passed through his thoughts briefly, but he didn’t spend any time dwelling on that. What he needed to do now was defend himself.
He fired off a shot, barely missing Thrawn. The Imperial dodged back out of the line of fire and more shadows started to move in the passageway, no doubt the death troopers.
Ezra was about to fire off a few more warning shots to hopefully give him time to try and find a way out, when suddenly he felt himself being pushed back into the air by an invisible hand! He connected hard with the wall of the cave, stars dancing in his vision as he fell into the water…and blackness…

Beau (Eli x reader)
{masterlist}
Warnings: fluff and some slight canon divergence, she/her pronouns, Thrawn being a wingman, a really tiny amount of angst thrown in for good measure too
Also, the main conflict of this stems from how it used to be (???) not cool to marry outside of rank. I’ll be honest, I’m not 100% sure that was a genuine rule in the army but it gave me this idea anyways so I ran with it.
Also, also, this has been in my drafts for I think five months...yeah
...............................
Eli Vanto was in trouble.
Nothing perilous, thank the force, but something that definitely added a risk factor the young ensign was not prepared for.
There was...this woman. This really spectacular woman.
And Eli was in love with her.
Junior Lieutenant Y/n L/n was, as her name suggested, the junior weapons officer serving aboard the Blood Crow under Captain Virgilio. She answered to the Senior Lieutenant which just so happened to be the one and only Thrawn. Which meant that every time Y/n met with Thrawn, Eli was right there - fixed to Thrawn’s side by virtue of being his aide. If Y/n had been like the other officers this wouldn’t have posed a problem. But that was the thing - she wasn’t. Y/n was from the mid rim world of Naboo which put her in an interesting spot. She wasn’t part of the ‘it’ clique that was comprised of those from the Inner rim but she wasn’t ostracized for being from Wild Space like Eli. She was in the middle and she had perspective. And that perspective made her kind. Every time she had a meeting with Thrawn, she greeted the chiss with a smile and a cordial bow of her head before she would turn, fix her dazzling e/c eyes on Eli and happily chirp a ‘good day/morning/evening’ to him followed by his name.
Every time without fail; “Oh, hello Lieutenant! And good day, Ensign Vanto!” And it was always accompanied by a bright, happy grin - the kind that Eli was always greeted with back on Lysatra and the sort that was in meager supply among the imperial forces. He’d stutter back. She’d grin a bit wider and business would resume. And Eli, despite his efforts, would chance little glances at her as Y/n animatedly updated Thrawn on the goings on of the ship.
One time, Thrawn caught him. He didn’t say anything - but Eli knew he’d been caught when, right as Y/n was in the middle of a sentence, he peaked at her and Thrawn’s head tilted at him. Not at Y/n. He’d flushed and hung his head and hoped to the powers that be that she hadn’t noticed. After that, Eli was more careful about sneaking glances at the entrancing young officer.
But his troubles weren’t over. Because, a few days later Captain Virgilio made a change to her schedule. He had said that Y/n was working herself into the ground so he was allowing her an earlier lunch. Her break now coincided with Thrawn’s and Eli’s.
The first day of this new schedule, Thrawn invited her to sit with them. And she accepted. And she sat next to Eli. And he almost fainted when Thrawn prompted conversation and Y/n took off, rattling on about various technologies she found fascinating - she had a special interest in tactical droids. Eli knew Y/n was smart, she had to be to have made it this far at a relatively young age, but he hadn’t expected her to be so knowledgeable and so excited to share. It made him want to engage with her, asking questions whenever he could, even if he already knew the answer. Eventually, he started to offer up his own interests and before either of them knew it, they were both so wrapped up in their conversation that neither noticed Thrawn looking on in interest. All Eli could focus on was the charmingly crooked smile that decorated Y/n’s face after his well-timed joke.
Everyday after was similar though Thrawn would often chime in when either Eli or Y/n said something he felt warranted comment.
Until today.
“Why would Virgilio randomly schedule a meeting right before lunch?” Eli questioned without bothering to hide the accusatory tone he knew Thrawn would pick up regardless. Despite his intimidating presence, Eli stood tall before him with arms firmly crossed. “And why aren’t Y/n and I needed?”
“I do not know, Eli. That was all he told me.” Thrawn answered with an innocent tilt of his head. Eli wasn’t fooled. Thrawn’s expression was too innocent - like he was forcing it.
“But-”
“All I know is that Virgilio has a few questions for me and that your presences are not required.” Thrawn reiterated. Eli’s lip quirked at the grouping in Thrawn’s sentence. Normally, when he referred to Y/n and Eli it was said just like that. To be referred to as one unit was a shock to Eli (though one he enjoyed although he refused to admit that) that made him think that Thrawn had set this up. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, Eli - I have a meeting with Virgilio and you have what I believe is called a date with Lieutenant L/n.”
Eli’s face flushed in an instant. “I-it’s not a date, Thrawn! It’s just lunch!” He tried to deny but was rudely betrayed by his own voice when it squeaked.
“My mistake,” Thrawn conceded and began to move forward, “however,” he paused next to Eli and peered down his nose at the young man, “I do hope you will invite me to the matrimonial ceremony.” He was gone before Eli thought to yell.
Thrawn did this. Eli didn’t know how he did it, but he knew the chiss had planned this. He probably planned the sudden alteration to Y/n’s schedule too. For what purpose, he hadn’t the faintest clue - maybe to make up for derailing everything he had worked for? Either way, there was no backing out.
Eli entered the cramped mess alone for the first time since his days at the Royal Academy. For once, it was just Eli Vanto - no looming presence of Mitth’raw’nuruodo to attract unwanted attention. But after spotting the h/c officer sitting alone distractedly sipping some caf as she poured over a datapad he had half a mind to gap it and go find Thrawn. Eli knew that Y/n at least respected Thrawn and he was never far away from the chiss so she automatically had to respect him too. Since he wasn’t here, Eli would be on his own. He’d learn what her opinion was of him.
But, there was a part of him that resented the fact he even considered retreat. Hadn’t he already had enough of living in Thrawn’s shadow? Wasn’t he tired of being viewed as the nonhuman Lieutenant’s accessory? This was his chance to flaunt who he was for the woman he had feelings for.
He moved to her table. She looked up from her datapad. She smiled at him and Eli felt his heart stop. “Hello, Eli.” Her voice was mellifluous. There was a familiar warmth wrapped around it that somehow reminded Eli of home. It was like a gentle breeze brushing through the tall grass on a warm day, whispering promises of good memories and sweetness in its purest form. He stuttered a hello back and quickly took a seat across from her. She set the datapad aside whilst tilting her head at him curiously. “Are you not hungry?”
He could feel his face warm - he’d neglected to grab anything before sitting down. If he stood up now, he’d look dumb. Eli shook his head and that’s when he noticed that Y/n didn’t have any food in front of her either besides the mug of caf. “Aren’t you?”
She shook her head. “Well, if we’re both not hungry then there’s no reason to sit in here, right?” Y/n carefully stood and stepped away from the table, sweeping up the datapad and empty mug in one go. Eli couldn’t help but admire the tiny but expert display of grace and spatial awareness. Before he immediately felt foolish for being fascinated by such an everyday display. When Eli didn’t stand, Y/n tilted her head at him. “Would you like to join me for a stroll around the ship?”
Eli felt his throat close up. Having lunch with Y/n was one thing, being alone with Y/n on a meander around the ship set at their own pace was an entirely different thing. In the mess, anyone that entered could see them, on a walk around the ship they would have the closest thing to privacy the Blood Crow could afford. Almost too enthusiastically, Eli nodded and got to his feet. Y/n smiled at him and walked off to deposit her used mug before heading towards the door. She paused and with a small twitch of her fingers beckoned him to follow.
The bench he’d been sitting on made an ugly screech sound  that cut through the din of the cafeteria when he smacked his knee against it in his haste to follow Y/n. The giggle that slipped past her slightly parted lips was almost enough to make his knees give out.
But luckily, Eli managed to hold onto his dignity by awkwardly wobbling for a moment before regaining his balance. Y/n waited at the door with her hands patiently clasped behind her back. It was a sort of mimicry of the normal stance she could be seen in when on duty. Eli noticed that she stood taller when her arms rested against the small of her back. She appeared confident and cool, not quite commanding but her presence did invoke the respect of those around her rather naturally. Eli envied this as much as he admired it.
Nervously, the dark-haired man cleared his throat when he got to her side. “So, where to?”
Y/n smiled at his awkward question, her eyes glinting with something he couldn’t place. His heart fluttered at the twinkle none-the-less. The young woman didn’t give any answer, just turned and exited the cafeteria.
The hallway was considerably quite dark compared to the bright white lights of the mess they’d just left and that was further emphasized when the door slid shut. It was a nice contrast and one that soothed the poor ensign’s frazzled nerves. He felt like it was a little easier to breathe out here although only marginally so. At least he didn’t have to worry about Y/n noticing the way his breathing had continued to speed up the longer he was in her presence.
Y/n kept her hands behind her back as she walked ahead at a leisurely pace (though Eli noted that her leisurely pace was still quite speedy, presumably from having to keep up with fast-walking commanding officers over the years) but he found it hard for himself to keep up. Shyness demanded he keep a respectful distance from the young woman but his attraction begged for him to walk at her side.
She stopped in her tracks in front of a wall length viewport that offered a nice view of empty space and looked over her shoulder at him. “Eli?” Her questioning lilt sent tremors through his body and the way her eyes gleamed in the low lighting portrayed a hidden intelligence. Did she know? Did she know what saying his name like that did to him? “Am I walking too fast for you?”
Eli swallowed. “N-no, ma’am.”
“Then, is there a reason you’re walking so slow?” She turned to face him and that scheming glint was on full display for him. “Is your knee bothering you?” Her head cocked to the right. She knows. Eli felt his face warm, his hands began fidgeting with the cuffs of his uniform. She knows and she’s teasing him.
“N-no, ma’am, ‘snot bothering me.” He muttered, unable to even look her direction.
The sound of Y/n’s heeled boots clicking against the durasteel floor warned Eli of her approach before the toes of said boots broke his stare down with the floor. “Then, what is bothering you?”
Eli cleared his throat, trying desperately to keep the status quo in place with his tone of voice. “Nothing in particular, ma-”
“Eli,” she cut him off, “look at me.”
The command made his dismissal die in Eli’s throat as his head automatically snapped up to meet her steadfast gaze. She was close enough for Eli to catch the faintest whiff of her subtle perfume. And for him to plainly see her eyes dilating as she skimmed over his features. “Can I touch you?”
Eli’s tongue became too heavy to move. He could only offer a dumbfounded nod.
She smiled, almost shyly, and carefully took his hands in hers. The leather of her gloves was cool and comfortingly smooth against his heated skin. He could feel the way his own callouses caught against the fabric which made him wonder what did Y/n’s hands feel like? Would he get the chance to know?
A gentle squeeze brought him back to the ship and he was startled by the raw adoration in Y/n’s face as she studied his face. The unabashed admiration took his breath away and made his chest ache to see the same look he would give her directed at him. “I-” she paused, and looked away for a moment, “a...mutual friend,” Thrawn, Eli huffed in his mind, “-mentioned to me that you hold some affections for me.” She bit her bottom lip and worried it between her teeth before continuing. “Is that true?”
Her eyes were...hopeful. Eli felt elated to finalize recognize the twinkle but he held off his relief. Hope didn’t guarantee his feelings being returned. “Yes,” he whispered, nearly breathless, “yes, it is.”
The grin that split Y/n’s face was the most dazzling thing Eli had ever seen and he felt himself mirroring the expression as Y/n cradled his hands against her chest. Suddenly, it was as if Y/n remembered herself and relaxed her grip on Eli, the smile slipped away with her hold. A twinge of panic shot through him. “I-I like you too, Eli,” she started soberly, “and...and I would like to be with you.” Eli felt his soul leave his body. She wanted to be with him. Y/n this wonderful, kind, and strong woman wanted him. And yet, he felt like she was holding something back.
Carefully, not fully trusting his confidence to hold, he brought her hands to his chest this time and prompted her to say what was on her mind with an encouraging, “But?”.
“But...I don’t want you to feel pressured into anything, first of all. And secondly, I don’t know how we would make it work.” Again, she took her lip between her teeth and began to worry it, eyes fogged over as if lost in thought. Eli was torn. The woman of his dreams just confessed that she wanted to be with him but she raised a good point; there was a clear distinction between them in the form of ranks. She was a lieutenant and he an ensign. Though the distinction wasn’t as glaringly obvious as it would have been if either of them was just a couple ranks higher, it could still cause problems for the both of them.
But what were ranks anyways when it was just the two of them?
Damn it all. Eli thought and tightened his grip on her hands, “Y/n, look at me.” Her head snapped up just as his had at the command. He raised a hand, letting it hover between the two of them while he asked, “Can I touch you?” She nodded once and he proceeded. His hand found its home against her cheek and she leaned into his touch, making his knees weak once again. Her free hand reached up and hooked loosely around his forearm. As if frightened she would shatter, Eli slowly dragged his thumb across her cheekbone and relished in the feeling of the fragile skin. Her eyelids fluttered closed briefly as her grip on his hand and forearm tightened. “I want to be with you too...and no I don’t know how we’ll make it work,” Eli swallowed, his throat suddenly felt too dry but he pressed on, “but I’m willing to learn how...with you. I want to learn how to make us work.”
“Eli...” she whimpered, “I want to learn too.” Her hand moved further up his arm, now hooked around his elbow, and she pressed closer to him. The action brought their clasped hands between both of their chests. “We won’t be able to tell anyone,” Y/n whispered, “not your parents, not my family - not until we both make the same rank or leave the empire.”
“I know,” Eli sighed, inching closer himself till their foreheads brushed, “and I’m okay with that - whichever comes first.”
Y/n closed her eyes in resignation and nodded once to herself, “Whichever comes first.” She opened her eyes again and looked up at him with a doe-like expression. “So...are we-?”
“I-If you want to b-be...um...” And just like that the serious conversation crashed and burned.
Eli glanced at Y/n and they both started to laugh softly at how dumb they were being. “Well, this is awkward.” Y/n chirped happily. Eli felt himself mimicking her happy laugh. Silence fell over them but it was a little more comfortable - still hesitant and unsure but less nerve-wracking. Just new. “Eli?” He hummed and watched as she closed her eyes to steady herself. “Can I kiss you?”
Eli sucked in a surprised breath but was quick to move so as not to worry her. Carefully, Eli removed his hands from hers  in favor of cradling her face and angling it up towards him. “’S’about to ask you the same thing.” She smiled and he kissed her. Their lips pillowed together in a shy but sweet kiss, one Eli hoped would be the first of many. Both eager to explore but hesitant to trespass. But there was no rush, there would be plenty of time for learning how to navigate this new path both were embarking at a later date.

Chapter 4: The Party (Cowboy Path)
Pairing: Eli x reader
Content: Drinking, some angsty pining
Length: 2.4k
AO3 Link (In case you like it better over there, it’s okay, no judgement)
The gala was as elaborate and ostentatious as you would expect of a formal event at the Imperial academy. It was like the whole ballroom shimmered as glasses of drinks were passed around and ornate dresses swished about in dance. You'd certainly never been a part of anything so grand from your home world before.
The sight made you pause as soon as you entered through the doors. It was breathtaking.
You let Thrawn guide you around the ballroom, barely registering his path as you took in all the shiny and expensive details around you. You were especially enchanted by the handful of couples circling around the dance floor, seemingly floating along with the music. You hadn't danced in so long... properly, anyway. Shimmying around your room in your underwear after a shower did not count.
"The music is quite pleasant," said Thrawn from beside you. For a moment, you forgot that part of the plan for the night was to substitute the names of your targets for other subjects, so any potential eavesdroppers would be none the wiser to your true intentions. Anything related to music was supposed to symbolize one half of the plan: Eva and Arden. But because you were so caught up in the spectacle around you, and your inner longing to genuinely engage with it all, you didn't immediately pick up on Thrawn's true meaning.
"It is," you said with just a hint of wistfulness. Your eyes happened to be watching one of the more gracefully dancing couples, the only signal to Thrawn that he needed to help you refocus.
He cleared his throat just loud enough to get your attention and then flicked his eyes toward the entrance of the ballroom meaningfully. You followed his gaze to see Eva and Arden had now arrived. Eli would be keeping an eye on them, while you and Thrawn would track Burdick. Your heart sunk as you were reminded, yet again, that you were not here for a good time. Tonight was about Thrawn's mission.
"Do you think Eli has noticed? The music?" you quickly supplied, hoping Thrawn wouldn't doubt your support.
"Yes, he seems to be enjoying it." Thrawn then looked to a different part of the room, where Eli was standing next to his date. Sadie. She was a tiny thing, with perfect proportions and well-styled hair and wearing a dress that left nothing to the imagination. You suddenly realized who she was, not having connected the dots before. She was in a few of your combat classes and had this weird habit of pumping her fist in victory every time she landed a good hit. You and Eli had made fun of her together. Why was he now going out with her?
"Yeah, he does..." you said absentmindedly as you watched your friend. Eli was making a show of casually looking around while really paying extra attention toward the couple by the entrance. But then Sadie linked her arm in his and looked up at him with a sweet smile, and he returned the gesture with a smile of his own. Your previous feelings of awe and fascination over this event were quickly turning into something much more sour.
"Did you also notice we have an assignment due soon?"
The comment from Thrawn made you blink away from the troubling scene in front of you. The Chiss had not been watching Eli, actually sticking to the plan and scanning the crowd for the other person of interest. Commander Burdick, who would be referred to by discussions of homework, another innocent topic. Thrawn had finally spotted him over by an hors d'oeuvre table.
"Thanks for the reminder," you muttered. A tray of drinks passed by, held aloft by a protocol droid, and you took the opportunity to swipe at one and down its contents in one go. You could see Thrawn eyeing you curiously from your peripheral, but you made it a point to not look back.
"Perhaps we should stand out of the way," said Thrawn, taking hold of your elbow and guiding you through the crowd and over to an area where several tall cocktail tables were set up. You set your empty glass on the surface of one of them and leaned restlessly against it. Your eyes kept wandering toward the commander as he munched furiously on some kind of cubed meat, glowering at all who passed by. Eventually you'd have to help make sure he was glowering at Arden long enough to maybe get some ideas, but right now, with the night only just beginning, there didn't seem to be much need for you to linger.
"This is a fun song. Maybe we could dance for a bit? Pass the time?" you asked, swirling your empty glass around in a bored manner.
Thrawn stared at you for a moment, most likely trying to determine if you were using the special code that you were supposed to or if you were actually talking about music and dancing.
"I think we should discuss the assignment that is due," he said, almost in a reprimanding tone. "It is rather important."
You swiped at another tray of drinks passing by, muttering over the rim of the glass, "Who goes to a party to talk about homework?"
You were being salty; you knew that. This mission was important and you cared about it. You cared about your friends and what this meant for them. But it seemed the more alcohol you took in, the more annoyed you grew toward those friends. Thrawn was such a stick in the mud, and Eli was apparently a big flirt. Was this really the best way to fix their problem? Was it really worth missing out on a fun evening?
Thrawn didn't seem too pleased as you downed your second drink in a matter of minutes. He cleared his throat in that way he did when he was about to lecture you. You cut him off before he got the chance.
"So what was that surprise you were talking about earlier?"
He blinked at you. "I never mentioned a surprise."
"Yeah. You said you didn't disappear, you were working on something, and that I'd see soon enough. Well? What should I be seeing?"
He reached across the table and gingerly took your empty glass from you with a frown. "You hadn't noticed? There is only one assignment."
It was your turn to blink at him. He sighed and jerked his head to where Burdick was still standing.
"I made sure his date would be delayed in arriving," he said very quietly; you almost couldn't hear him above the din of the party. "So he wouldn't be distracted."
You looked over at the Commander, not very subtle in your observation of him, so it was no surprise the man noticed your staring and frowned even more deeply.
The sound of your name caused you to snap back to Thrawn, who was circling the table to lean in closer. He seemed upset; or, as upset as Thrawn could ever seem through his calmness.
"If you have other things you wish to be doing, I would much rather you leave for them, instead of staying and causing problems." His voice was low in your ear. You sighed at his words, feeling bad for how you'd been behaving.
Just a little bit.
"Well, if it isn't my favorite student," came the voice of Commander Burdick. The man had apparently decided to come over after discovering you'd been staring at him, however, he was very clearly addressing Thrawn and not you. "I'm surprised you'd even come to an event like this."
"The Academy has provided a generous occasion tonight," Thrawn slipped out of his scolding of you and into his usual demeanor without missing a beat. "It would have been in bad taste for us to not attend."
Though it had been your staring that'd called him over, it was only when Thrawn referred to you collectively that Burdick finally acknowledged you. He gave a grunt as a sort of laugh.
"What about that scruffy little friend of yours? He doesn't care about taste?"
"Eli's here..." you heard yourself saying. You also felt Thrawn tensing beside you. You tried to give him a reassuring look as you turned to point out your friend behind you, moving about on the dance floor with Sadie. And just beside them was Eva and Arden, as you knew they would be. The two couples seemed to be trying to one-up each other with their dance moves. You quickly turned away so you wouldn't have to register how exciting and intimate it all was.
"So I see," Burdick hummed. You couldn't tell if he still had the same frown from before, or if it was a new one in response to seeing his ex with a student. "You're not a dancer, Thrawn?"
"Only when the mood strikes, sir."
"Well if you don't show your woman a good time, someone else will." Burdick took a step forward and held out a hand toward you. Your eyes grew wide, panicking. That was certainly unexpected.
Thrawn quickly, and smoothly, jumped to your defense.
"Sir, I'm afraid she is not feeling well. I have simply been keeping her company."
Burdick looked between the two of you, and then briefly beyond at the dance floor, before giving an odd smirk and retreating.
"Very well. Enjoy your... company."
The Commander turned on his heel and disappeared into the crowd. As you watched the back of his head, you couldn't help but wish you hadn't frozen and had accept his offer to dance. It was probably going to be the only offer you got all night.
"What... were... you... thinking..."
You looked over at Thrawn, surprised he was still upset. He was pinching the bridge of his nose and scrunching his eyes.
"Huh? I made sure he noticed Eva," you defended yourself. "He asked me to dance, probably to make her jealous, but since that's not happening, he'll be able to focus his revenge on Arden now."
"That is quite the assumption, based on absolutely no evidence."
"There is too evidence--"
"And apparently we've abandoned all secrecy and discretion, too. Might as well announce what we're planning to the whole ballroom while we're at it."
Thrawn's piercing eyes looked down on you, looking more like fire than they ever did. You bowed your head for a few seconds, needing to escape the heat and cool down.
"I'm sorry," you said, finally looking back at him. "I didn't mean to... mess up on the homework."
You offered what you hoped was an endearing smile. Thrawn only left you hanging for a second before he relaxed just a little.
"You did not mess up," he stated, returning to his side of the table and finally taking up the drink still left sitting there. "But perhaps you should just observe for the rest of the night."
And observe you did. The rest of the evening seemed to both pass by in a shimmering blur, and crawl forward at an unbearable pace. You observed couples dancing, laughing, even kissing. You observed how the energy of the ballroom shifted from eager liveliness to unhurried intimacy as time drew on. You observed the hors d'oeuvres dwindle and the champagne lose its bubbles and the lights dim ever-so-subtly.
Occasionally you actually observed the "homework," whenever he happened to pop out from the crowd. Thrawn did most of the note-taking, pointing out under muttered breath how the commander was still fixating on his ex, how his frown seemed to change from grumpiness and anger to determination and craftiness. Whatever that meant. You couldn't ever pretend to notice half the signs Thrawn did.
But most importantly, you observed a certain shaggy-haired boy from Wild Space.....
The way he danced, somewhat stiffly, but not as clumsy or awkward as one might expect from someone who couldn't figure out a tie.
The way he seemed to so effortlessly keep an eye on his despised classmate while still paying attention to his date and all her friends.
The way he casually hung out with her friends in between dances, as if he'd always been a part of their group.
The way he held her.
The way he looked at her.
At some point, you'd finished off your fifth glass of champagne, and you were definitely feeling the effects of it. That was what you were feeling, you told yourself. Your stomach was in knots and your brow was feeling warm and your heart was beating in your ears, all because of the alcohol. It didn't have anything to do with your guilt from upsetting Thrawn earlier, or the fact that even though Eli had nodded your way a few times in acknowledgement, he hadn't once come over to make good on his promise to save a dance for you. Nope. It was the alcohol and nothing else.
"Thrawn," you said quietly, breaking the Chiss's concentration on something-or-other across the way. "Do you mind if I call it a night? I'm pretty tired."
His eyes flickered over at the amount of empty glasses you had collected beside you, but he didn't comment on it. Only nodded in understanding and returned back to his mission.
You sighed as you picked your way through the crowd that remained. Quite a few students and teachers had already left for the night, but plenty still remained, and it baffled you just how many were hoping - and fighting - to earn to a place in the Empire.
And then something caught your eye just as you made to push through the doors and out into the night. One last thing to observe.
Eli and Sadie were swaying to the slow song playing, just off the actual dance floor. It was like they were in their own world. Her hands rested against his chest, and his chin laid atop her head, and they turned in slow circles as they rocked back and forth, holding each other close. When Eli's face finally turned toward your view, you swore your insides were threatening to crawl up your throat and spill out all over the shiny floor.
His face was relaxed, content. His lips were turned upward in a pleased sort of smile you'd only seen a few times on him before, usually after he'd told you a nice childhood memory, or after he finished a hearty meal. This wasn't an act; this had nothing to do with the mission or your purpose here at this dance. He was happy, holding her.
Just as his eyes wandered from whatever peaceful place they'd been resting and locked onto yours, you finally pushed through the door and left.

82 with Demon Thrawn please?
“What a nice little sound, I think I’ll bite there again.”
Tumblr media
A/N: Reader is a witch if that’s all cool with y’all.
There had been a point to this earlier.
Captured sexual energy was a powerful ingredient in a number of spells.  Most didn’t like it in a bottle, but it did in a pinch if there wasn’t time to get busy before a ritual.
Captured demonic sexual energy however, was an entirely different beast.  It was volatile, but extremely powerful with an unlimited shelf life.  For obvious reasons it was notoriously difficult to collect and highly valued because so.
Luckily for you, you had a willing demon on call whenever you ran low.  The only trick was, stopping long enough to actually cork the damn stuff.
A long tortuous moan sounded from your lips as Thrawn tore yet another orgasm from your body.
You had been at this for what felt like hours.  The energy from your love making collected high above you, curling and flashing with every desperate cry from your lips.  You had enough to last you a year, but Thrawn was far from finished with you.
Those were the ups and down for having a demon for a lover.
He took hold of your shoulders and rolled you onto your stomach.
You didn’t fight him. You didn’t want to.  Your body was on fire.  You muscles ached in the best conceivable.  All that existed was you and him, and the pleasure you gave each other.
His strong hands gripped your hips, pulling your ass flush against his hips.  His thick cock was already hard again.  He teased your entrance, stroking himself along your oversensitive slit.
You groaned into the pillow, caught between exhaustion and anticipation.
“Can you take one more,” he said, his voice a rasp but still somehow in control.
You should have said no, give you body a rest and put it all up to a hard day’s work.  But, all of it still felt too good to pass up.
“One more,” you said, moving your hips in time with his strokes to prove it.
A low hum came from Thrawn’s chest before he sunk into the familiar warmth of your walls.
No matter how many times he wrecked you, leaving your cunt a dripping mess of cum, he still managed to make you stretch for him. A dull ache mixed with pleasure kept you grounded, something you were grateful for.  You were already lost in him.  You needed someway to come back to yourself.
He kept his pace steady and strong.  Each thrust shook your body, making your moan into the mattress.
Above you the swirl of primal energy pulsed with light, sending it’s own wave of pleasure back down on the pair of you.
Thrawn buckled under the sudden flash.  The snap of his hips came harder and faster as he leaned his body over yours.  You were surrounded by him and the exstasy of it all.  It was becoming too much.
As if hearing your thoughts, a sharp pain came from your shoulder.
A moaning gasp tore from your throat.  You were aware suddenly of teeth and the man attached to them.
Thrawn groaned above you, the teeth now replaced with his tongue and lips.
“What a nice little sound,” he growled. “I think I’ll bite there again.”
You opened your mouth to speak only for another cry to replace it as Thrawn sunk his teeth into your flesh once more.
It did take you long after that.  His cock, his teeth, and everything he gave you took over your body as you came with a desperate sob.
Thrawn followed after, pulling your back flush against his chest as his cock pulsed inside you cumming hard and deep into your begging cunt.
Finally, he pulled out of you letting your finally rest as you collapsed onto the mattress and into his arms.
“Will that be sufficient for you needs,” he asked, with just the hint of teasing in his tone.
You huffed out a laugh, peaking at the thick cloud above your head through heavy lids.
“I’ll keep you posted.”
There had been a point to this earlier.  But at the moment, all you wanted was to sleep and keep your lover beside you for as long as you possibly could.

Sabacc and Secrets
Thrawn and Ar’alani play sabacc with a smuggling ring. Written for @arcticelves, for the tarot card themed prompt "The Fool": madness, cliffs, gambling, innocence, recklessness. I hope you will like this! Read it on AO3 here.
“The Aristocra find your conduct unbecoming, Captain.” Ar’alani’s tone was not scolding, but rather wry, with raised eyebrows and upturned lips to match. It was not a full smile, nor did Chiss eyes twinkle, but Thrawn could not help thinking a lesser species would describe her expression thusly.
Thrawn would rather describe his friend and colleague as a work of art. She was not only a model officer, displaying keen intelligence, an eagerness to serve, and trim physical fitness, but also a willingness to listen and learn. She was not overly sentimental nor complacent, neither a slave to emotion or tradition.
Ar’alani was one of the few beings Thrawn ever trusted, from the moment they met at the Academy on Naporar. He knew the feeling was mutual. Their history of teamwork spoke for itself.
Therefore, he would bring her into his confidence, entrust her with his plan that would bring them one step closer to their enemy’s identity, and once more bring glory to the Ascendancy.
If she would take the gamble with him, despite what the Aristocracy would see as recklessness, all the better.
“Do you agree, Admiral?” He knew she did not. What she said next mattered, however, for the form of his planning.
“You know I don’t agree, Thrawn. However, you do need to learn to play the political game better. I won’t always be there to help you smooth things over afterward.”
She told him that before, numerous times.
“I am grateful for you and your assistance, Admiral.”
Ar’alani sighed. “What are you planning, Thrawn?”
He couldn’t resist smiling in turn.
Ar’alani couldn’t help but thinking that this time, truly, would be the time Thrawn’s recklessness, or madness, as some of the Aristocra would put it, would get them killed.
Here they were, diving over a cliff in a small speeder, chasing criminals--smugglers, most likely, not a full crime syndicate--who Thrawn believed had ties to those who wished to destroy the Ascendancy. There were still too many unanswered questions, too many variables to pinpoint a particular target or assailant. It was unsettling, Ar’alani thought, shifting in her seat as Thrawn guided them closer to the smugglers’ hideout.
She had no doubt, however, that they would be up to the challenge, when their adversary revealed themself. She trusted Thrawn, trusted herself.
Even if she wasn’t comfortable with that dive over the cliffs just moments before, or playing a high stakes sabacc game with these criminals. Just being Chiss would put them in danger. If the criminals discovered their true identities--Ar’alani wouldn’t allow herself to continue the thought.
She’d have to deal with the aftermath and the Aristocra regardless. She steeled her spine and took a deep breath as Thrawn landed the speeder. He nodded at her as they entered the lair. No words were necessary. They would play their parts, obtain information and hopefully cargo, and leave with their heads held high, if all went according to plan.
It was hard to see inside the cave; the glow-lamps placed throughout did not reach through all the shadows and curves to penetrate the pockets of darkness fully. Crates of cargo stacked upon each other loomed haphazardly above and to their sides. They pressed forward, traveling deeper as the ground sloped downward into the space beneath the mountain, despite the potential for an ambush they’d never see coming. Ar’alani could hear voices up ahead, and laughter. Credit chips clacked together, and mugs thunked against a table.
Ar’alani never could see the appeal in gambling or gaming, and she assumed Thrawn felt the same way. It was enough to gamble with their warriors’ lives on a mission. She ran a hand through her wig and adjusted her glasses to be sure they were in place, and took Thrawn’s hand as they entered the smugglers’ den.
No blaster fire or other weapons met them, but their arrival did cause a stir.
“We weren’t expecting any more tonight.”
“Who are the newcomers? Didn’t see them last time.”
“Friends, please, may we join?” Thrawn asked. “My partner and I would like to buy in for this round.”
Ar’alani smiled and nodded at the smuggler who approached to her left, trying to appear coy and flirtatious.
“What can I get you to drink?” he asked, reaching to take her arm. She tried not to recoil from his touch, and hoped he wouldn’t notice how cool her Chiss skin was. At the same time, she reminded herself they had no reason to suspect she and Thrawn were Chiss at all, and she highly doubted they were familiar with Pantoran physiology either.
“Ales for us both, please,” she said, smiling once more. After he departed to grab their drinks, she followed Thrawn to the sabacc table.
They made idle conversation while waiting for the cards to be dealt. The ale was not to Ar’alani’s taste, as she suspected, but it was a safer choice than any of the local homebrews. Smugglers of this sort wouldn’t stock fine Corellian whiskey, unless they were siphoning from their cargo. She listened carefully to the conversational cadences; she would gather the intelligence, and lose at cards, while Thrawn played to win.
The cards dealt, each player called out their opening total. Ar’alani held The Queen of Air and Darkness and Demise. -15 wasn’t a bad total, but the card titles gave her pause. She was not superstitious, nor were her species, and she pushed her thoughts away to concentrate.
Next to her, Thrawn chose to draw on his first turn. Ar’alani followed suit, drawing an eight. She would definitely lose at -7.
Thrawn’s expression was unreadable. She did not dare ask him anything, to draw more attention to them, but she did gently place her hand on his arm, to reassure herself, if nothing else.
With their cards drawn, Ar’alani listened to the chatter around them, allowing her focus to drift away from the game. There would be another shipment from this location next week, she deduced. The smugglers would meet the buyer in deep space.
On the next turn, Thrawn stood. Ar’alani chose to draw again, pulling 11. Her hand was far worse, and she hoped Thrawn’s was far better. This time, she felt Thrawn’s hand on her own arm to reassure her. She appreciated the gesture for what it was, for she knew Thrawn was never nervous.
Their second turns completed, starting with the dealer, everyone called their final hand. Thrawn inclined his head ever so slightly. He nodded to Ar’alani, who met his eyes.
Gasps arose around the table as Thrawn laid down his cards. “Idiot’s Array,” he said, without gloating. He won. Ar’alani grinned.
Her grin faded, however, when across the table, a burly human rose and slammed his fist down. “Not fair,” he bellowed. “This newcomer must have cheated.”
Thrawn shook his head. “I played an honest game, just as you did.”
“Take it easy, buddy,” another smuggler said, clapping the burly man on the back. “Have another drink and we’ll play another round.”
“Like hell we will,” the burly man said, pushing his colleague away. He fell down to the floor, knocking over a chair. Chaos reigned from then, as fights erupted across the bar. A Gamorrean took a swing at the burly man, trying to bring him down, while other humans helped their compatriot off the floor.
Thrawn and Ar’alani grabbed their winnings and ran for the entrance, blaster fire beginning to erupt behind them. They wouldn’t be able to carry any of the cargo, but at least what they learned was safe in their brains--and other information inconspicuously documented on their holorecorders.
“They headed for the entrance!” someone yelled from behind them. They ran, hurtling through the darkness, dodging the crate towers as best they could. Ar’alani hit the corner of one with her hip; she’d have dark bruising later, but the bruise was worth her life.
The blaster fire followed them as well; one hit a crate, spilling its contents and hopefully delaying their assailants.
As they emerged from the cave’s darkness into the night, Ar’alani and Thrawn leaped into their speeder, barely settling in before taking off.
Her heart still racing, Ar’alani turned to Thrawn. “Are you injured?”
“Just minor scrapes,” he replied. “And you?”
“I’ll have a large bruise tomorrow, but otherwise, I’m fine.”
Thrawn nodded. “Good. Thank you for your assistance. I trust you noticed their pattern?”
“Of course. We’ll be ready for their next shipment. Perhaps then we can uncover their buyer’s identity.”
“Indeed,” Thrawn said, appearing deep in thought.
They arrived back at their ship, docked in the closest city’s outskirts, without incident. They loaded the speeder, then strapped in for takeoff. Once their coordinates were set and the autopilot engaged, Ar’alani finally allowed herself to relax. She wanted to ask Thrawn how he played such a hand, but he spoke first.
“I will grab the medkit, if you will allow me to see to your injury?” His tone was quiet, unlike his usual confidence. The fighting would not have fazed him, certainly, she thought. Was there something she missed?
“Yes, thank you,” she replied, unstrapping herself and following him toward the bunks. He grabbed the kit from a shelf, and she sat down, allowing him to sit next to her.
“Please accept my apologies for your injury, and what you will have to explain to the Aristocra when we encounter these smugglers next,” he started.
Ar’alani laughed. “I will deal with them when I have to. How did you play such a hand?”
Thrawn put down the bacta patches and met her eyes. “I analyzed the game, the players, their weaknesses. I assumed those across the table would be overconfident, and pull too many cards and drinks.”
She nodded. “A sound strategy, as always.”
“There is no one else with whom I would rather strategize.”
Ar’alani smiled as Thrawn placed a hand on her cheek. His hand was soft, gentle. As he leaned in to kiss her, she thought the gamble had been worth it.

Star Wars Regency AU
Please accept this word vomit from my never to be finished Star Wars Regency AU.
Tumblr media
moodboard from @celinamarniss
~~~~
The candles flickered with light reminiscent of a thousand sparkles on the open ocean during sunset. It made Captain Luke Skywalker wish he were anywhere else then in the overheated ball room with said candles. In full Navel regalia, he longed for the open waters of the sea to cool his overheated body. But he had been ordered to attend the gathering held by his twin sister, and unofficial head of the house. He may hold the rank of Lord but it was the Lady Leia Solo who ruled the Skywalker estates.
Thus, his ship in port, and he himself on leave, Luke had very little choice but to make an appearance. As he gazed out upon the throng of pastel clad ladies and the dandies at their beck and call, Luke tried to hide a yawn behind his white gloved hand.
After finishing a boring conversation with one of Leia’s political friends, he was about to head for the side door to the ballroom and his freedom when a flash motion caught his eye.
Just entering the room, a woman in a scarlet silk gown that shimmered of the highest quality and complimented the cream color of her skin, stood at the entrance and let her gaze slide coolly over the guests. The red highlights of her hair blazed in the candle light amongst the gold curls, all swept up into a stylish chignon that left her elegant neck bare leading down to the expanse of her shoulders, uncovered by lace shall or chemisette. Luke could not see the color of her eyes from this vantage point and the low light, but when they passed his way and stopped for a split second before moving on, he felt a jolt of awareness spread through him. She was too exotic to be called beautiful by the current modes of fashion. But this captivating woman was worth sticking around for a while longer.
So transfixed by her presence, Luke almost did not see the man who stood at her side until he took her hand to lead her to a group of businessmen standing with his brother-in-law. Hoping to join the group before the woman and her escort got there, Luke slid through the crowd like a schooner through the rocks surrounding the outer bay of Alerra, arriving at his brother-in-law’s side just and introductions where being made.
“Captain Solo,” the escort said. “May I present Miss Mara Jade. My dear, Han Solo, Captain of the Millennium Falcon and our host.”
Han bowed and the woman curtsied before Luke nudged his friend and brother for an introduction. Up close she was even more captivating. Dark eyes, green perchance? Shone with enticing mystery.
Han shot him a wink only Luke could see before fulfilling his duties. “Captain Karrde, Miss Jade, a pleasure. And allow me to introduce my wife’s brother, Lord Luke Skywalker, Captain of the HMS Tantive. Luke, I’m assuming you heard the other half of the introduction so I’m not going to repeat it.”
Everyone gave the proper formalities before Luke asked, “Miss Jade, I’ve not heard that name before. Perhaps you are new to Alderaan?”
“In a manner of speaking,” she said in a throaty voice that sent shivers across his skin.
“Mara’s parents where from Alderaan before traveling east. She was but a child of 5 when they left. It was in waters off Jedha where their journey ended when the ship they traveled upon was attacked by pirates and her parents killed. I was a crewman of the ill-fated ship and managed to secret Miss Jade and myself away before the pirates found us. She has lived in Jedha ever since. It is only recently that I have brought her back to her homeland.”
It was as the man spoke that Luke finally took notice of him.
Captain Karrde was of some indeterminate years older than Han, though not so old as to be labeled Miss Jade’s father. He carried himself like a man of the sea, stance slightly spread for balance and steadiness. His black hair was kept short and neat, as opposed to the current fashion of longer, curled hair. The gray at the sides gave him a distinguished air that would hold up to stuff with any courtier. The skin of his face bore the trademarks of a life of sun and salt but was of a darker hue then just an ordinary tan. The equally dark eyes seemed to see much and express little. His dress was simple yet of the highest quality and spoke to refined tastes and deep pockets. Luke had trouble placing his accent but it only added to his air of foreign allure.
“It is as Captain Karrde says,” Miss Jade added. “I have begged him for many years to bring me back to my birthplace. Finally, he has relented.”
“Bad timing if you ask me,” Han said. “War with the Coruscant is on the horizon and may happen at any moment. The Queen cannot keep the peace forever.”
One Han’s friends, a Mr. Calrissian said, “You worry too much my old friend.”
“And you don’t worry enough ‘Old friend,’” Han replied, but in a jovial fashion. The others in the group chuckled. Even Captain Karrde gave a slight smile as if also knowing of the good-natured ribbing exchanged by the two.
It was then that Luke heard the strains of a Naboo Cotillion beginning and saw his chance to get Miss Jade away from her chaperone.
“Miss Jade, would you do me the honor of a dance?” He asked. “I fear my land legs may yet trip me up, as I’ve only just landed but a day ago. But if you can bare it, I would be delighted.”
There was an indefinable pause as she considered his request before curtsying and replying, “Of course, My Lord. I have yet to fill up my dance card and have been looking forward to dancing tonight.”
“Please, I am but a simple Captain in her Majesty's Navy and would prefer to be addressed as such.”
“If you wish, my Lor… Captain.” She nodded to the assembled group before taking his hand.
Now standing beside her, Luke noted that she was taller than most of the ladies of his acquittance and once hand in hand opposite each other as the dance began, he found it refreshing not to have to look down at her. Even so close, the light was still to dime to make out her eye color but he found he was utterly captivated by them.
“How are you finding your homecoming, Miss Jade?” He asked as they danced.
“To be honest, Captain, I find it lacking,” she said dryly. “The whole world touts Alderaan’s tranquil vistas and peaceful society, but I have yet to find it to my tastes.”
“Is there something wrong with a peaceful way of life?” he asked, curious by her response.
“As a man of war how can you say such a thing?”
“Because I am not a man of war but of peace and protection. I offer my service to Her Majesty and to the Navy to protect those I care about.”
“And what of the rest of the world?” she prodded. “Do they not also need your protection?”
“It has always been Alderaan’s covenant to provide aid to those who ask for it. Even now I have it on good authority that the Queen is considering a proposal that would extend our ability to provide said protection.”
“I would believe you if I had not seen the lack of Alderaan’s ‘protection’ with my own eyes,” she said with a touch of bitterness.
“I fail to take your meaning.”
“Were you not aware of Coruscant’s invasion of Jedha?”
“I was. I am very sorry that your home has fallen to Admiral Thrawn’s ambitions. But I fail to see what Alderaan could have done to prevent it.”
“Jedha asked for help. Help that was never given.”
“I see,” he replied. This dance was not going as well as he hopped. Her lack of understanding in upper political workings of his country, made her bitter and resentful. “All I can say is that I cannot presume to know the mind of the Queen only to say that that must have been a very good reason for any withholding of aid.”
The woman said nothing and Luke found her silence irksome. Jedha was on the eastern side of Coruscant, far from Alderaani shores. If he were one of the Queen’s advisors, he would have cautioned against sending a large force and provoking Thrawn into open war with Alderaan.
He brought them to a halt before the dance was done and asked, “You doubt me Miss Jade? My sister and I were once wards of the Queen and her Consort.”
“I do not doubt you Captain Skywalker, and I have heard of your connection the Royal Family. Even as far as Jedha we have heard of the rumors that Queen Breha wishes to make your sister her heir.”
When he did not confirm or deny the rumor she went on, “But I have yet to see any proof of Alderaan’s commitment to anything but its own self interests.”
“Then I am sorry for you Miss Jade. Perhaps now that you are no longer sequestered in the east the truth will be revealed to you.”
~~~~~
This ball takes place during a house party and Luke finds Mara snooping in Leia’s quarters, tries to arrest her but she gets awa.
She escapes on a horse and he follows.
She heads to Talon’s ship in the bay where Luke tries to prevent her from boarding only to get captured himself as a trophy for Thrawn.
~~~
A little back story...
Anakin and Padme are Lord and Lady Skywalker. Padme was a Princess of Naboo when she met Anakin, a minor lord of Alderaan and fell in love. Anakin was matched with many young ladies but it is said Skywalkers only marry for Love. This was the case with Padme as she was supposed to marry another but left Naboo for Anakin. It was a scandal when she wed so far below her station.
Unfortunately their love was short lived and Padme dies in child birth to twins. Anakin soon follows her from a riding accident a few years later. Though many that knew the couple we say he died of a broken heart.
Luke and Leia Skywalker. They are fostered by the Queen and Queen’s consort of Alderraan. Luke becomes a Navel Captain while Leia manages the estate. She follows in her parents foot steps and marries a merchant and humble background, Captain Han Solo ( who also is involved in “free trade”). This is an even greater scandal then her mother as at least Anakin had been a Lord. Luke looks the other way concerning his bro-in-laws activities since tensions with Alderaan and Coruscant are rising and Han’s enterprises are for Alderaan and against the Imperial Empire.
Mara Jade is a courtesan/spy for Admiral Thrawn of the Imperial Empire of Coruscant. He holds on her the safety of a group of warrior monks, the Guardians of the Whills, that trained/raised her and she must spy on her countrymen to free them.
Talon Karrde is her accompli. Doesn’t approve of what she’s doing and just wants her to go to the Alderaan Government and come clean.
