So I have some thoughts about Eärien and the Númenor plotline in general I want to yap away about so forgive me :
I feel like there is this dilemma with every complex female character in fantasy where the fandom enthusiastically chants "I will support her wrongs !" And when she does something egregious as expected everyone just hates her for the rest of eternity instead of actually TRYING to look into the characters motives and their point of view .
We know that the Kings men and their right wing like reactionary nationalism, superiority complex, and greed is gonna drive Númenor to utter ruin (welcome back SPQR) , its also the major reason why Sauron was able to manipulate Pharazôn so easily , we know that Eru and the Valar and their presence is heavy in not just Númenor but in middle earth and whole of Arda , and we know that the faithful are correct in this situation .
(Lots of people claim that the faithful are right wing religious extremists and paint them as Tolkien projecting his own Catholic beliefs but that's not how I see it . Sure Tolkien held his beliefs very close to his heart but I don't see it as him "projecting" them , from all that I have read so far about the man ,he was never one for imposing his views on others. I mean he was quoting Simone De Beauvior, a feminist of the second wave and an openly bisexual woman whose works were banned in the catholic church , and called her views on death as the "key springs" of lotr trilogy . Yes there are references to his faith in his works , but I for one never see them as being written in there out of malice or a prejudice of a sort , but out of pure love and inspiration. So in my opinion you cannot take the context out when talking about the faithful because in many ways the faithful are the more open minded and progressive bunch in this story.) Again I may be wrong about this but this is just my opinion and what I understand so far :)
But from Eäriens' pov , her absent father (Elendil ily but dammit dude) has returned from a hastly planned and failed voyage without her eldest brother , the only person she could confide in , while the other one (aND WHERE THE FUCK IS ANÁRION?) got fed up with said dad and pissed off to (WHERE IS HE?) .... somewhere out of the capital . Her mother is long gone , their father shut himself off because of it , and now Isildur is also dead and it's all because of (in HER mind do not come for me pls) Míriels support of Galadriel and the old ways . And when she tries to do something about it with her newfound position, her father once again cuts her off and compares her fate to that of her deceased mother, who died in a horrifying way ... so yeah she has the right to be pissed .
Maybe , judging from the teasers in ep 6 Eärien has a Sansa Stark moment where she tries to get Ned I mean , Elendil out of prison but Pharazôn and Kemen shut her off and she realises that she's messed up big time and is now trapped with these clowns basically until you know....... what happens . Or maybe that doesn't happen and maybe she is after all the one who's gonna make Melkor's temple but regardless I am so excited to see her character arc evolve. I am eating up this complex juicy storyline.

really weird thing ive noticed lately re: hermits getting critiqued for stuff theyve said or done is that as soon as someone holds a shit opinion (even if it's just them being stupid, or a centrist, or saying a bad word without knowing what it means, or whatever) people immediately seem to flock to the 'this guy should die' 'kys' 'why are we giving this person a platform' rhetoric and like. that's not how meaningful change is made?
like, yeah, if one of my beloved CCs posted a tweet or video tomorrow about how much they hate gay people, or believe in conservative ideals, or they just said a bunch of slurs or whatever (these are hyperbolic examples obviously) then yeah, fuck them, they should go rot. but like, having some dumb takes, or saying bad things in the past, doesn't = evil terrible person...
idk, i feel like we can critique content creators without getting so insane about it. like, shit, there are things some of my favourites do that i don't like, but theyre not even really worth bringing up tbh. unless its something actually important, i feel like it just creates more drama out of nothing and all these assholes come crawling out of the woodwork to tell everyone how much they hate that creator. or find their content boring anyway so clearly they have no real merit to anyone.
more of an explanation of what i mean in the tags but yeah.

not to throw my hat into the discourse, but all this anti-doctor/therapist stuff i'm seeing around at the moment is genuinely a bit terrifying and also feels like a dangerous line of thinking
i saw some tags on a post recently saying that the poster would not go to the doctors even if they were severely ill, and would rather chance it being cared for by their own community
and i'm sorry but. this is anti-vaxxer logic, this is the same talk those culty essential oils mums spout
medical care systems are flawed around the world, yes, and they need to be reformed, yes. but i don't think this "all doctors/therapists are just like cops" narrative is a good one or even useful
demand better, but don't reinforce the all medical care is bad narrative, because you are shooting yourself in the foot and are like 2 steps away from cult thinking

Idk man but like. There were people who insisted the Russia Ukraine situation was too complicated to support one side and then dedicated their time to making Ukrainians and their supporters seem as evil as possible while mocking anyone who thought it was fucked up Russia wanted to slaughter them all and calling them stupid childish liberals. And it was blatantly clear to everyone with a brain not full of propaganda that these people did not care about the Ukrainians at all and saw them as subhuman. They're still doing in now with Iran, because the girls beaten to death by the morality police are an acceptable sacrifice to them.
And now there's people insisting the Israel Palestine situation is too complicated to support one side and then dedicating their time to making Palestinians and their supporters seem as evil as possible while mocking anyone who thinks it's fucked up how Israel wants to slaughter them all and calling them stupid childish leftists... So I hate to break it to them but no one is believing you care about Palestinians when you can't even acknowledge what Israel has done and is currently doing to them. Just like you rightfully didn't believe tankies cared about Ukrainians. Your dehumanisation and appalling lack of morals doesn't suddenly become justified because the team you hate is supporting the resistance this time and YOUR team is supporting the fascists. You're both awful because it should never be about teams in the first place lol. Tankies and Biden fanatic Liberals/Centrists hate each other more than they care about any human life as anything other than a news update they can use to mock "the other side" with. Caring about atrocities is met with sneering disdain, tankies say liberals only care because it serves American interests. Liberals say that leftists only care because it goes against American interests. The idea that there are people who can be horrified by both Ukraine and Palestine, as well as Syria, the Congo, Armenia and many other atrocities happening, is a thought that neither side can acknowledge. Because if they stop making sweeping generalisations about The Enemy they'll be forced to confront the evil rotting their own mentality.
They're usually more polite and well adjusted than Republicans. Republicans will just come out and say that everyone who's not them deserves to die. These two groups will go "Yes obviously we don't want anyone to die BUT-"
Take away the bullshit and the core is the same. Callous indifference towards any suffering innocents not belonging to their "in group", often masked with false righteous fury. Yes we support these people losing their liberties and lives but look at the slogan they picked to protest their right to be considered humans deserving of dignity and respect. Isn't it a little too distasteful? A little too ominous towards their oppressors? Let's ignore the dead bodies and fascist governments and spend the day talking about that instead.

completely obsessed with the symbolism in right wingers who idolize people like james dean and marilyn monroe. it's such a perfect image of how they will believe any carefully crafted lie, even when it doesn't take more than an observant eye to see the truth underneath. it says so much about their lack of critical thinking, and their inability to recognize a curated public persona. the way james dean was queer, and surrounded himself with queer people and people of color, and other marginalized people, in a time where this could literally break you. but they see the image of him wearing smart jeans, smoking cigarettes and driving fast cars, so they have convinced himself this is what a Manly Man is and should be. even if he also openly did ballet, and read philosophy books with his cat in his lap, and made it a point to learn to do his own makeup. same with marilyn how they put her on this pedestal as The Woman and at the same time scream about how "the family unit is endangered", when marilyn chose to work during every one of her marriages, and she negotiated fair contracts not just for herself but for other women, and she supported unions and defended queer people and people of color, and very publicly was seen with them. she knew how to fix her own car, and - same as jimmy - read books about human kindness too complex for these people to even comprehend. how does it feel knowing you're choosing lies every day of your life, because you see shiny things and believe they're gold
